install-grub2 instead of install-grub
in squeeze install, at the end, the installation says install-grub after installation grub2 is not showing xp as a choice when I run as a root install-grub2 manually the problem is fixed so please add 2 to the grub2 script greetings, arie langhout

Granted (and thanks for pointing me to that option which I didn't know about before this). However, I think os-prober shouldn't blindly mount seemingly unmounted filesystems. It should check at least if there is another process accessing that filesystem/device.
