Actually yes, that should work; the install media for GNU/Hurd and

Bug#701814: os-prober: damages XFS exported via iSCSI but not mounted locally; potential data loss

2013-02-27 Thread Torsten Jerzembeck
Package: os-prober
Version: 1.42
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

While updating the kernel on a storage server exporting a large XFS via
iSCSI, os-prober tried to mount this file system. This operation disrupted
the iSCSI operation and damaged the file system.

Excerpt from syslog showing the behaviour:

Feb 26 12:21:38 $SYSTEM os-prober: debug: running

On that kind of machine you really want to set
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true in /etc/default/grub.

Granted (and thanks for pointing me to that option which I didn't know
about before this). However, I think os-prober shouldn't blindly mount
seemingly unmounted filesystems. It should check at least if there is
another process accessing that filesystem/device.

ACK for unblock-udeb too. No big testing done yet, but any regressions
would quickly show up in the dailies, so… we'll know soon enough.

I've had to upload 3.2.39-2 to fix build failures and regressions on
several architectures. The new build has failed on mips but that's a
local issue (disk full). I build-tested my fixes for the other
architectures before uploading so I'm pretty confident it will be
successful on all once the mips buildd is fixed.
