Bug#542025: installation-reports: debian installer hangs at chooseing the langauges
Package: installation-reports Followup-For: Bug #542025 Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? When I try to install debian/testing on IBM X3100 M4 entry level server * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Try to install Debian GNU/Linux testing. * What was the outcome of this action? The installer can only be booted using Legency mode, not UEFI Mode. However, it stopped at the "Chosing Language" screen, even when booting in Legency mode. No other actions were possible. I need to turn off the power. In fact, I need to unplug the power line. * What outcome did you expect instead? Install Debian GNU/Linux testing correctly. -- Package-specific info: Boot method: CD Image version: testing Date: 2013/07/14 Machine: IBM X3100 M4 Partitions: Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [ ] Detect network card:[ ] Configure network: [ ] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup:[ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Install base system:[ ] Install tasks: [ ] Install boot loader:[ ] Overall install:[ ] Comments/Problems: Installing Ubutu server was OK, but still cannot boot the installed OS. -- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I have just a couple of minor suggestions. I used the graphical installer. When detecting network h/w, it stopped at the "missing non-free firmware" screen. The files I needed were listed - I googled them, downloaded the deb package, extracted the files, put them on a usb key, and continued merrily along. Perhaps, helpful for a less experienced user, a clue could be offered where to find the files? Better yet, provide a link to them? Also, when choosing the ESSID and entering the passphrase, it appeared in plain text. This would be better masked with *** by default, and an option given to display it openly. Minor points. Overall, an excellent installation experience. Thanks for your hard work! Bug#716977: Installer does not fill /etc/crypttab
Package: debian-installer Version: testing When partitioning with a RAID0 and a lvm volume on top, the initramfs does not include the LVM module and, so, cannot mount /. Fix: include the LVM module inside the initramfs Additional info: This was done on a laptop with 4 ssd. Each ssd had a 300MB partition, with the one on sda used for /boot. The rest of the space on each disk is used for the raid array. The encrypted device is created inside /dev/md0. A LVM volume is created inside /dev/md0. There are 2 partitions inside the volume, one for /, one for the swap. The laptop is a work laptop, so I cannot try another install. I will however try to reproduce the issue in a virtual machine using qemu. If there is anything else I can do, please tell me. Feature dnsmasq as TFTP server in the installation guide ?
Hello everybody, today I installed debian via TFTP on a network where I was already running dnsmasq, and it had never been so simple: # cat <<__END__ > /etc/dnsmasq.d/tftp enable-tftp tftp-root=/var/tftp __END__ # /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart # mkdir /var/tftp ; cd /var/tftp # wget http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/wheezy/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/gtk/netboot.tar.gz # tar xvfz netboot.tar.gz According to the Debian wiki, only the following other items need to be configured. interface=eth1 domain=yourdomain.com dhcp-range=192.168.0.3,192.168.0.253,255.255.255.0,1h dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,pxeserver,192.168.0.2 pxe-service=x86PC, "Install Linux", pxelinux https://wiki.debian.org/PXEBootInstall#Another_Way_-_use_Dnsmasq Nevertheless, it looks like pxe-service is not strictly necessary. I wonder if it would be worth mentioning dnsmasq proeminently it in the Installation Guide. It is a much easier setup than isc-dhcp-server or BOOTP (is that still needed ?) debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso daily build 2013-07-14: apt configurational problems
Installing with debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso daily build 2013-07-14 from www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ after successfull network configuration I get a red background and error message like "apt configurational problems apt cannot configure packages from CD". It seems that one can anyway continue the install by choosing the country of the repository, but I stopped there. I'm sorry of the shortness of this short report but I do not have time to complete the install, I need a working debian quickly. Cheers ric
