Bug#720339: debian-installer: Be sure of the keyboard binds before entering the passwords

2013-08-21 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Cyril Brulebois (k...@debian.org):
 Hello tueslibre,

 Tuxicoman deb...@jesuislibre.net (2013-08-20):
A proposal to fix this bug vould be :
  1. Have another texbox on the same screen where the user could test his
  keyboard layout.
  2. Have an option to not mask the password in the textbox while typing it
  like
we have on Android for example (only the last letter is shown)

 2. has been mentioned in other bug reports already (WEP/WPA passphrases
notably), and looks like a good idea. Needs someone to implement it
 though.

I however wonder what this has to do with the installer. So we now
have yet another wrongly assigned bug report that will quietly sleep
in the BTS until someone takes care to triage it.

In this case, it is however difficult to reassign as it should
theoretically assigned to everything that prompts for a password
(crypto stuff, login, various display managers, etc, etc.)

I think that's just a matter of implementing a checkbox (or similar) in
debconf frontend, so that one can unmask the password at will? At least
that's what was discussed for the WEP/WPA thing.

Hmmm, you're right. I mistakenly understood that what was wanted is a
way to show the password when it is entered..for anything that
prompts for the password, while here what's wanted is to allow making
it visible when it is entered in cdebconf.

Reassigning to cdebconf (though the same would be needed for debconf

Re: graphical installer broken in sid (was: Bug#720313: fbdev_drv.so: undefined symbol: xf86XVListGenericAdaptors])

2013-08-21 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Hi,

FWIW the Linux i386 graphical installer under QEMU still fails to start
Xorg; it doesn't look like it even tries to launch it, but complains it
cannot open display or similar. Although kfreebsd-amd64 is fine.

If I manually start Xorg it appears to start normally, except the
display remains suspiciously blank with no visible cursor (which I guess
should be shown even if there are no X clients?). Perhaps related to
xf86SetGamma?

Maybe it's just me. It appears to be working now in Jenkins, at least:

Hi Victor,

Bug #720313 was fixed in last night's build. You may want to try it
again now:
http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/i386/daily/netboot/gtk/mini.iso

It is actually not working for me with Qemu+KVM, but maybe it will work
for you. Especially if you can try it on real hardware.

It did not work for me as well with just downloaded image - showing the same

Maybe the iso image is not yet refreshed or does not yet include this fix?

Possible capitalization and extra space issue. String needs to be updated to:

msgid Quik installation failed. Continue anyway?

THis is one of the cases where we avoid capitalization because quik
is the program name. I usually try to avoid this situation but we
sometimes have to leave it as is.

So, I won't fix it.

The double space is indeed something that should be fixed. However, in
order to avoir fuzzying existing translations, that requires some
manual processing.

There are maybe a few others cases where we still have such double
spaces: some English native speakers tend to use them after full
stops, sadly.

how to do it (as in how to present it to the user) in text mode,
though... A little bit more testing and I'll push that by the end of
the week with a couple of other patches I have pending.

Bug#720439: console-setup: /etc/default/console-setup values overwritten on upgrade

2013-08-21 Thread Nate Bargmann
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.95
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

A few days ago an update to console-setup arrived in Sid. I have chosen not to
use the default fonts on my consoles and have set FONTFACE and FONTSIZE to empty
strings only to have them replaced by other values. The result is a poor
quality
font on my hardware and I once again must edit console-setup and reboot for my
chosen settings to take effect.

The package should either not touch locally applied settings, where I presume
/etc/default are to be set, or prompt the administrator to approve the changes
(if the package does so but is not prompting me, a gentle reminder on how to
enable such notifications will be welcome).

Thanks.

- Nate

the system log below. Entering the shell and rm -rf ing the ZFS entries
in /lib/partman allows the installation to complete normally.
