Bug#720286: flash-kernel: Please support PlatHome OpenBlocks AX3-4 board

0x40 is the size of the uImage header, I think. So this is just skipping
the header and jumping directly into the zImage contained within?
Perhaps because this platform uses bootz instead of bootm?

In that case why bother with the uImage at all -- why not just install
the zImage as the kernel and jump to its head?

Yes, you are right and bootz is god solution for multi platform.
But this machine does not support BOOTZ in u-boot.

Best regards,
  Nobuhiro

Bug#709319: Bug 709319

2013-09-04 Thread Bernard McNeill
Hello

If it helps, this bug seems to be the same (with amd-64) as bug no. 708126.

I tried again with 7.1.0 - to me, the bug is still there.

There are a bunch of debian.org machines hosted at GRNET in Greece...

If i want to use btrfs as filesystem for root and /home, partitioning
fails with error message:

partman: Error: Use the -f option to force overwrite.

If i try to format /dev/sda1 on terminal with:

If i format /dev/sda1 on terminal with -f:
# mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sda1

Bug#721869: install appropriate linux-headers

2013-09-04 Thread Joey Hess
Package: base-installer
Severity: normal

The CD images include linux-headers packages, but d-i does not install
these by default. I think that it should, so that if the user needs
to build out of tree kernel modules they don't need to jump through
the additional hoops of learning that Debian has separated kernel
headers and how to install them. If we begin installing it by default,
users should come to just expect that they can build kernel modules from
source without doing anything more than a make, which will be a good
thing.

We still have a need for the kboot-utils package in debian. Recent
daily builds of D-I work fine on PS3, but the installed system still
cannot boot due to lack of a kboot.conf file for the PS3's native
bootloader (petitboot).

Which distributions *don't* do that?

If we begin installing it by default,
users should come to just expect that they can build kernel modules from
source without doing anything more than a make, which will be a good
 thing.

Only if they also install a toolchain (whichever task that is).

This should also be done by installing the matching metapackage
(linux-headers-flavour) rather than the ABI-specific package.

Which distro does? A normal user does not need to build its own modules.
We also don't install a toolchain, aka build-essential.

Well, see earlier messages: I was obviously mistaken. So, my apologies
to anybody who could have been offended by the supposed assumption
such as the above one, but I'd prefer if the real issue is fixed.

So, no mirror problem, fine. Then, what problem?
