I'm guessing the keyboard that worked is not USB??? Rick On Dec 8, 2013, at 11:09 PM, Dan DeVoto dand1...@yahoo.com wrote: I can confirm this bug. The keyboard is functional on the first boot screen, but when it gets to the Choose a language screen, the keyboard no longer works. I tested this on a Powerbook5,6 (with its built-in keyboard) and a PowerMac3,1 (with an external Macally keyboard). Interestingly, the keyboard on my dual USB iBook (Powerbook4,3) worked fine, though when I plugged in an external keyboard, that again failed. Oh, and this was with the December 8th nightly build. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#715408: possibly duplicate: Bug#728936: Debian testing installer does not dectect USB keyboard
Hi Manfred, I tried to reproduce the problem on my Laptop (i3-2330M) with a Logitech USB keyboard, that Windows 7 reports as: HID\VID_046DPID_C312\726B80A520 For me the external keyboard worked in the installer. Furthermore I found the strikingly similar bug #728936 [1], where it was suggested, that this is a problem only on PowerPCs, but you had this problem with an i5 processor. Thus it would be helpful if you could test, whether your keyboard works with current installers, or if the problem still persists. To test this, you don't have to actually install anything on your computer, just burn the installer (or copy it to an USB stick) and check, whether the keyboard works in the 'Select language' screen. Bug#731776: Boot after installation
package:installation-reports Hi, Debian WHEEZY does not boot after it was successfully installed. I had to install it once again in an Expert mode and explicitly check Install GRUB to MBR option. Then the system booted fine. I'm afraid that it is a side-effect of a FIX of another bug, which I faced several weeks ago. Then the system installed from USB key could boot only using the installation key (GRUB installed on the key instead of an internal disk) There was recommended to disable the install GRUB to MBR option.

Bug#731802: debootstrap: Doesn't work in LXC containers
Package: debootstrap Version: 1.0.55 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I thought to build a Debian chroot in an LXC container, but it fails. From the debootstrap.log it turns out, debootstrap tries to create devices with MAKEDEV, but it fails with Operation not permitted. I run debootstrap under root within an LXC container, seems LXC doesn't support the creation of devices. It would be nice to work around this problem, e.g. by adding a --variant option which is compatible with LXC. Now I can choose another way to build a custom Debian installation, still it would be useful to be able to build chroots even within containers. Re: Bug#715408: possibly duplicate: Bug#728936: Debian testing installer does not dectect USB keyboard

It works fine. The problem only appears on PowerPC hardware. I also have the impression that the amd64 installer works with USB keyboards, which I find great, since e.g. the original reporter of Bug #728936 reported a problem with the amd64 installer. So something seems to have fixed that and perhaps a similar change could fix it for PowerPC as well. That's what I'm hoping! Unfortunately, I'm just a user. Building kernels and install CDs to test is a skill I haven't acquired yet. Is there someone on the d-boot list or d-powerpc list who has those skills and is willing to help? I can test both amd64 and powerMac, and there are folks with an interest in this who can test it on YDL PowerPC hardware as well. I have heard from at least one person with IBM Power hardware who says it works OK for them. That may be because the keyboard is not USB (I don't know, I'm just guessing! I don't have IBM hardware myself…) As it stands, Wheezy is not installable in the normal way on Mac or YDL hardware, unless it has an ADB keyboard. Maybe it would be appropriate to increase the severity of this bug? Please and Thank you! Rick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Re: Bug#728047: ttf-cjk-compact-udeb: needs an update: missing/broken glyphs in d-i
Hi, Hideki Yamane henr...@debian.or.jp (2013-11-09): Thanks for your report, I'll fix and upload it after MiniDebConf in Taiwan. Can you wait a bit for it? sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Now would be a very nice time for an upload, since I'd like to upload debian-installer to unstable this week. Fixing the broken CJK support would be very nice. Here's what I've tested: I've run again the ./update script, and built an image with the resulting udeb; switching between different CJK languages makes me believe this is all we need to fix the missing glyphs issue we had in the previous upload. Could you perform an upload soon? (I can also take care of the upload if you want me to.) Hope you had a nice time at MiniDebConf. :-) (Apparently that was the case given your last blog post. ;-)) Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#715408: possibly duplicate: Bug#728936: Debian testing installer does not dectect USB keyboard
Hello Andreas, I have downloaded the netinst ISO: http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/7.2.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-7.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso First I tried to copy the included files from ISO file to the windows path L:\Software\Debian7.2\. I started setup.exe from there - but the program only tell me, that it cannot found the win32-loader.ini. May be searched in another directory? The file was there. Burned the ISO on a CD and start the PC with the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. I tried to use graphical and textual install. In both cases all have worked. This installer seems to be OK ! Thank you very much. Bug#731806: debian-installer: FTBFS on sparc: genisoimage errors
Hi, Cyril Brulebois wrote: genisoimage: Error: './tmp/miniiso/cd_tree/boot/.' and './tmp/miniiso/cd_tree/boot/..' have the same ISO9660 name ''. [...] Probably some FS-dependent fun? Anyone would have a clue about it? Looks like an internal error of genisoimage. '.' should be mapped to a 0x00-byte in ECMA-119, '..' to 0x01. See ECMA-119, 6.8.2.2 Identification of directories. These names are reserved for that purpose. Any other colliding ECMA-119 names should be handled by mangling. But why is that mini.iso produced by genisoimage at all ? debian-7.2.0-sparc-netinst.iso was produced by xorriso. Hi Manfred, It's the Jessie (testing) daily build installer we're having trouble with. What you got was the Wheezy release (v7.2). An understandable mistake. Please download from here: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/amd64/iso-cd/debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso and try it again.
