Package: installation-reports

Boot method: Debian installer on sd card, using Cubietruck firmware +

Machine: Cubietruck (Allwinner)
Processor: ARMv7 Processor rev 4 (v7l)
Memory: 2061944 kB
Partitions: Installation didn't complete this step

Output of lspci -knn (or lspci -nn): None (shelled out from installer and this
produced no output)

Base System Installation Checklist:

Partition hard drives: [ E ]
Install base system:[ ]
Clock/timezone setup: [ O ]
User/password setup:[ O ]
Install tasks: [ ]

Comments/Problems:

Installing Stretch using current (dated 31 Oct 2016) firmware and net installer
does not complete. The following error is encountered during the install:

"No kernel modules were found. This probably is due to a mismatch between the kernel
used by this version of the installer and the kernel version available in the archive. If
you're installing from a mirror, you can work around this problem by choosing to install
a different version of Debian. The install will probably fail to work if you continue
without kernel modules. Continue the install without loading kernel modules?"

Selecting "Yes" causes the installation to fail at the disk partitioning step,
apparently due to the lack of an appropriate kernel module. I have the three files made
available for debugging by the installer: hardware-summary.txt, syslog.txt, and
partman.txt and can share them upon request.

Under the theory that waiting a while might allow the repository and the kernel
to sync, I attempted the installation multiple times over the course of several
weeks and never got a different result, hence this installation report. I also
tried prior versions of the installer as well as the stable version (Jessie)
and none that I tried completed successfully.

In the past I have successfully installed Debian on the Cubietruck using the sd
card method, as well as other ARM devices; so I am experienced in this
installation process.

Thank you for your help, I believe trying a different mirror rectified
the issue. In all cases I was using the default mirror for the US, but I
tried a different one and the install completed.

This change was reverted in 1.0.87 as dpkg-shlibdeps didn't cope
properly with a merged-usr system. Thus reopening this bug report for
that version.

The dpkg-shlibdeps bugs has been fixed [1] in the mean time. So it would
be great if this bug report could be re-considered.

Michael

Bug#848726: shebang preseed

2016-12-19 Thread Geert Stappers
Package: preseed
Severity: normaal

Hi,

In the UNIX / Linux world it is good custom to start a file with "shebang".
We all known '#!/bin/bash' and '#!/usr/bin/python'. The cool people of
nftables are using '#!/usr/sbin/nft'.

This ticket is to discuss a "shebang" for preseed files,
to have an interpreter directive.

The "need" came due https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=848597#30

Oww, sorry, had forgotten about your previous thread where you
mentioned this. :/

Hmm, certainly right, I'll queue the revert for 1.18.18.

Also Ansgar mentioned on IRC that the other pkgdetails implementation
in base-installer also needed to be handled, perhaps by stripping the
arch-qualification centrally from debootstrap itself. And josch also
mentioned that perhaps it might be a good idea to consider switching
to use multistrap in Debian, as that's always going to be more feature
complete.

Looks like not, at least not my version. I checked and there is no
dnsmasq running when qemu is booting and iPXE correctly got DHCP

Better: The file provided by DHCP bootfile option 67 is not in expected
Debian preseed format or is simply corrupted.

> Another change might be offering a way to retrieve preseed file from
> another location. (not checked it that is allready existing)

That would be better. The whole problem is that one DHCP option is used
for several different things and recipients (in this case debian
installer) cannot distinguish if received option is for them or not.

The latest dpkg upload (1.18.17) changed the dependency of libdpkg-perl
to perl:any as well, and now "debootstrap --variant=buildd" fails
because it no longer downloads perl.

This means that sbuild-createchroot and "pbuilder create" will also fail
to create sid chroots, since they run "debootstrap --variant=buildd".

Cheers,
   Sven
