Bug#694002: installation-report: wheezy beta4 success on lenovo thinkpad

 The only problem during installation was that it said

Do you remember the exact error message ?

Grepping di_log from choose-mirror, it may be:
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING, broken mirror: invalid %s in Release file
for %s, field, name);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_ERROR, no default release specified);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_ERROR, array overflow: more releases than allowed
by MAXRELEASES);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_INFO, mirror does not have any suite symlinks);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING, mirror does not support the specified
release (%s), default_suite);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_ERROR, array overflow: more releases than allowed
by MAXRELEASES);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG, architecture not supported by selected
mirror);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING, broken mirror: invalid %s in Release file
for %s, field, name);
di_log(DI_LOG_LEVEL_WARNING, mirror does not support the specified
release (%s),

 so I selected cdn.debian.net instead and that worked. Presumably, this
 problem is because wheezy isn't released yet.

 Image version:
 http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/wheezy_di_beta4/amd64/iso-cd/debian-wheezy-DI-b4-amd64-netinst.iso

With same ISO and same mirror (and the fact ftp.se.d.o DNS entry didn't change
between the initial report and this mail), I cannot reproduce this report.

 Please notice that building G-I takes *hours* (4h17 on my build
 machine), so I probably can rebuild it only once during the day,
 today.

Different languages could probably be built in parallel.

 Also, I never did such work so I don't know exactly what needs to be
 synced on the website. I suspect that the online copy has to be
 updated in some way Frans was doing all such work in the past
 (including builds of G-I) and, IIRC, nothing has been re-setup to
 update online copies again.

Nothing needs to be done on the website side: the last installation-guide
package is extracted automatically from the archive.

http://cvs.debian.org/webwml/cron/lessoften?view=markup

 I suspect that some work may be needed for CD images production, too.

 Hence CC'ing -doc, -www and -cd

Bug#601340: Debian Installation asks for rtl8168d-2.fw (but I can't find it and some apps need it to run).

Hi,

On Mon, Oct 25, 2010 at 08:44:18AM -0200, Felipe FV wrote:
 Package: rtl8168d-2.fw

Thanks for your report.

 When I was installing Debian Squeeze on this PC, I was asked about some non-
 free firmware for my NIC (rtl8168d-2.fw). I didn't have it. But anyway, I was
 able to install the system (downloading files from the mirror), surf the
 internet after the installation (Iceweasel, Epiphany) and even download
 updates.

Then this has nothing to do with the NIC firmware. Indeed, as you said and as
mentionned in #601340, the firmware is actually not needed.

Not sure how/if d-i can stop asking for the firmware.

 The problem is that the network icon always showed the information
 connection not present (something like that). The real problems started
 when I was trying to use Evolution and configure my e-mail. I realized that
 it could not connect because it said no connection. I think it's the lack
 of firmware that is affecting these other programs.

This is #549451 (evolution cannot work when network-manager is in offline mode)
combined
with default network-manager as of today #530024.

As a workaround, edit /etc/network/interfaces and comment references to eth0.

Bug#282098: Could passive mode be set if FTP is selected manually?

 Well, if you choose to manually configure the mirror, you can not really
 expect the installation system to know that it should set the mode.
 AFAIK, you can solve this by switching to VT2 and adding the following
 lines to /etc/apt/apt.conf (using nano).

In lenny installer, *busyybox* uses passive mode while fetching files
from a manually defined FTP mirror.

Feel free to close it the way you want.

2/ Tasksel
During tasksel, I've checked desktop environment, I guess it was unchecked by
default because not available on the netinst CD.
This tasksel didn't install manpages-fr-extra which provide translation of
common manpages (bug already reported on tasksel but no number attributed yet)

3/ After reboot: / full, issue with /tmp

At first login, a popup from GNOME appears complaining about 100% full root
partition.
Yes, my / is only 3.3GB, but my own aptitude clean freed more almost 900MB.
= Why not cleaning /var/cache/apt/archive after the d-i installation ?

At the intial boot on lenny just after the installation, it seems something
strange happens with /tmp, whose mount point displayed by mount was of type
overflow (related to the observation above ?).
* When I opened a www link from gnome-terminal, the message Epiphany could not
connect the session message bus. Your default settings will nto be available.
* On manual installation of b43-fwcutter (adding contrib in sources etc.), the
debconf script tried to download firmware, but complains because of no
spaceleft on /tmp/, which appears to be only 1MB.

After reboot, /tmp is a tmpfs of 250 MB and b43-fwcutter installation succeeds.

4/ Suspend/Hibernation OK
Sound/wifi ok as far as I see (function used from GNOME).

Lenny sounds great :-)

  This file should be put as debian/po/fr.po in your package build tree.

 hw-detect is part of debian-installer and thus should be updated directly
 in SVN by the regular D-I translators for French. Any reason thos cannot
 be done in this case?

As asked by Nicolas and following a proofread process on -l10n-fr, here
is a new version of the french po file.

Christian asked to be in CC and will take care of the commit.

Regards,

Bug#483957: apt-setup: Display a link to the authoritive list of mirrors in sources.list

2008-06-01 Thread Simon Paillard
Package: apt-setup
Severity: wishlist

In the case the mirror choosen by the user stops working, the user
doesn't have any information about how to change it.

A first answer to this problem should be adding such a line in the
sources.list file generated by apt-setup during installation :

# Reference list of Debian mirrors: http://www.debian.org/mirror/list

Best regards,

debian-boot,

Please find below a report arrived on debian-mirrors.

 Maybe a problem with the master?
 [..]
 Please let me know if there's a more appropriate list/address for this
 kind of topic.

debian-boot is the appropriate mailing list in this case (ISO
generation), while debian-mirrors handles issues related to the network
of Debian mirrors itself.

Re: Fwd: debian.blueyonder.co.uk broken

2007-04-09 Thread Simon Paillard
Dear debian.blueyonder.co.uk/debian.virginmedia.com admin,

Could you disable the HTTP redirect from debian.blueyonder.co.uk to
debian.virginmedia.com, and only setup a simple virtualhost for the old
mirror name ?
Indeed, HTTP redirect brokes apt.

In the meantime, we will modify the list of mirrors so that future
debian-installer builds use the new name of your mirror.

BTW:
* could you add an http alias so that the debian mirror is also
available under the quite standard /debian ?
* your ISO mirror doesn't seem up to date with respect to the fresh Etch
release :-)

Thanks for your reactivity and for mirroring Debian,

 The debian.blueyonder.co.uk mirror in the latest daily build (as of
 03/04/07) of the etch installer is obsolete. The installer fails to
 download initramfs-tools using this mirror (unauthenticated error).
 Additionally, a 302 Found was encountered when manually running apt-get
 update in the /target chroot. Once I changed this to
 debian.virginmedia.com, as is correctly listed on the debian mirror list
 (http://www.debian.org/mirror/mirrors_full), I could run apt-get update
 and apt-get install initramfs-tools without problems. The installation
 could not be completed as the
 /etc/apt/sources.list file is overwritten on the Install Base System
  step.

 This needs to be fixed before etch is released.
