Bug#399737: Installation Report - Etch RC1 DVD does not install Desktop

Perhaps it is something to do with the fact that I am using a 20GB LV
for /, but also configure a small (100MB) ordinary linux 0x83 partition
for boot? Is there something I can check before leaving the installer
 and rebooting?

If the desktop task is selected X and Gnome should be installed, a
separate boot partition makes no difference and 20GB is plenty for a
desktop installation.

Please send us (gzipped) the syslog for the installation, which can be
found in /var/log/installer on the installed system.

 Comments/Problems:
 Partition hard drives:
Selected manual partitioning, but test system configuration was not
shown. Had to click to raid section, do nothing but return to
partitioner to see software raidsets, then had to click LVM and do
nothing but return to partitioner to see LVs.

This is a known issue.

Display LVs in the LVM section of partitioning does not display all
LVs. See list above. Need scrolling window here.

Could you provide a screenshot for this and explain exactly what is
missing? Windows should become scrollable automatically when the data
exceeds the size of the window.

 Reboot:
Booted to logon prompt ok, but no X. Had to apt-install xserver-xorg
and Gnome to get desktop even tho all should have been on the DVD.

During the installation you are presented with a list of tasks that can be
selected. Are you sure you selected the Desktop task for installation?
That should have given you both XOrg and GNOME.
We test this extensively before release and are fairly sure it works
correctly. The task may not be selected by default depending on the
characteristics of your system (e.g. partition sizes).

 They gui install
is getting there, would like to see less of a gui like text install and
more gui with drop down menus, selection lists, radio buttons to select
items instead of clicking on full lines of options, etc.

Yes, this is a first step. We hope to find developers interested in making
it more graphical, though without adding too many frills and whistles
and trying to avoid really major diversions between the textual and
graphical installers.

Thank you very much for your report.

Cheers,
FJP

Will provide a screenshot after Thanksgiving. Getting ready to leave
town and do a turkey at my daughter's.

Basically, I have a test system currently with 22 LVs and only about 11
are shown.
