Bug#673530: libcommoncpp2: FTBFS on kfreebsd-*: sys/kern/types.h:87:17: error: expected unqualified-id before 'char'

2012-05-19 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Source: libcommoncpp2
Version: 1.8.1-3
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS
User: debian-bsd@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

that might just be some “fun” with the kfreebsd headers, but your
package FTBFS in sid (1.8.1-3) on kfreebsd-* while I was building fine
in experimental (1.8.1-1):
| libtool: compile:  g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I../inc -I../src
-DCCXX_EXPORT_LIBRARY -D_GNU_SOURCE -I../inc -g -O2 -c file.cpp -fPIC -DPIC -o
.libs/file.o
| In file included from /usr/include/sys/kern/param.h:67:0,
| from /usr/include/osreldate.h:1,
| from /usr/include/x86_64-kfreebsd-gnu/sys/param.h:39,
| from file.cpp:75:
| /usr/include/sys/kern/types.h:87:17: error: expected unqualified-id before
'char'
| /usr/include/sys/kern/types.h:87:17: error: expected initializer before 'char'
| make[3]: *** [file.lo] Error 1

Full build logs:
  https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=libcommoncpp2suite=sid

I'm putting debian-bsd@ in X-Debbugs-Cc so that they can look at it
ASAP. Indeed, that FTBFS is blocking the libcommoncpp2 transition:
  http://release.debian.org/transitions/html/libcommoncpp2.html

Mraw,
KiBi.

Uhm no. You should check such things on FreeBSD before jumping to
 conclusions :-)

I don't even know why I said that now... s/think/suspect maybe/

So due to this kludge, some headers must now include sys/types.h, because on
upstream FreeBSD the appropriate definition would be been provided by GCC? The
new typename is fairly self-documenting now anyway. :)

I'm still confused why some of the kkh /tests/*.c include kern/sys/types.h

No, headers can rely on stddef.h for size_t as usual.

It's just kvm.h which tries to be smart and define size_t on its own,
using the __size_t from kkh. But unlike FreeBSD we can't have
__size_t, because __size_t would break GCC 4.7.

I'm still confused why some of the kkh /tests/*.c include kern/sys/types.h

Well each test would have its own reasons. Which one do you have in mind?

Checking if handbrake compiles under kFreeBSD?

2012-05-19 Thread Rogério Brito
Hi there.

There's this moderately popular video ripper/transcoder/converter based on
ffmpeg/libav called [handbrake][0], which I am trying to [package for
Debian][1].

[0]: http://handbrake.fr/
[1]: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/handbrake.git

Handbrake is supposed to work under many environments and Christian Marillat
created some packages for his repository, which contains a [patch for
kFreeBSD][2].

As I don't have a *BSD system available, I would like to make sure that the
package compiles/works before the first upload to Debian, once we have the
basics arranged.

[2]:
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-multimedia/handbrake.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/0004-Enable-compilation-on-kFreeBSD-arches.patch

Given this, would it be possible for the people working on kFreeBSD to see
if the patch given above is sufficient, if there are improvements to be made
etc?

For now, the package in that repository has only two (soon to be only 1)
build-dependency that is not yet satisfied in Debian proper: libmkv-dev and
libfaac-dev.

The first is already in the NEW queue of the ftp-masters, but both are ready
to be built from the pkg-multimedia git repositories:

[3]: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-multimedia/faac.git
[4]: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-multimedia/libmkv.git

For now, handbrake is not yet able to be built cleanly with
git-buildpackage, but once the build-dependencies are installed, a simple
fakeroot debian/rules binary creates working debs for it.

Well, that's it. I intend to push everything to upstream, so that we carry
as little of a delta as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Hi!

I can tell you that it builds, at least, for me in my kfreebsd-i386 dev
environment. I used GCC 4.7 but mostly follow Wheezy, whereas there may
be some differences on the actual kfreebsd-* buildds.

The patch seems to work, but I wonder if some of the tests for

This doesn't matter for GNU/kFreeBSD, but it could affect future

2012-05-19 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Hi Salvatore,

In src/ansi-c/c_preprocess.cpp, the #include unistd.h changed by
KiBi's patch is still wrapped in #ifdef __linux__.

I would think:

#if defined(__linux__) || defined(__GNU__) || defined(__GLIBC__)

is the best way to cover Linux/kFreeBSD/Hurd.

Oh I see, thanks. I think it is the userland we are interested in here
so __GLIBC__ sounds right.

Please find a patch attached (to apply after KiBi's) which I have tested
on kfreebsd-i386.

I've no idea if __GLIBC__ exists on __APPLE__ or other non-Debian
platforms but I guess we don't need to worry about them, so I've left
that alone.

Re: Checking if handbrake compiles under kFreeBSD?

2012-05-19 Thread Rogério Brito
Hi, Steven.

I'm adding the HURD people here, so that they can test the package and see
if something should be done or not.

For the HURD people, this is a reply to [my first e-mail][*] about getting
the HandBrake ripper/transcoder working on kFreeBSD and patches that need to
be added for building:

[*]: http://lists.debian.org/debian-bsd/2012/05/msg00198.html

I can tell you that it builds, at least, for me in my kfreebsd-i386 dev
environment. I used GCC 4.7 but mostly follow Wheezy, whereas there may
be some differences on the actual kfreebsd-* buildds.

Great. Thanks for testing this. It may be the case that handbrake is added
only latter, since, at present, compiling mp4v2 with other (L)GPL software
results in undistributable binaries.

Anyone got ruby-1.8 to build on kfreebsd-amd64?

2012-05-19 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi,

lately, ruby-1.8 failed twice on fasch, twice on fano, delaying the
ruby-gnome2 transition. I'd be happy if somebody could look into it and
see whether there's something wrong on the buildd side, or whether a
porter binary upload could happen. It should help get more packages
installable on s390x in testing at least.

Seems that this issue *rarely* happens during kfreebsd-i386 builds too
(in the same place, but test_safe_04 isn't necessarily at fault).

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ruby1.8arch=kfreebsd-i386ver=1.8.7.352-2stamp=1313126333

test_cd(TestFileUtils): Build killed with signal TERM after 150 minutes of
 inactivity

When I try this myself, I hit segfaults in the testsuite before it even
gets that far. :(

The result of the test-all suite is ignored anyway. Something was added
for ruby1.9.1, to time out any tests that hang -- maybe we could use it
here too:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/ruby1.9.1.git;a=commitdiff;h=6c64e43924695aec1f995202a032fb2e0e955eb3

Also #593139 might have something relevant to fixing ruby1.8.
