Bug#293840: Cyrillic characters in main window are displayed scrambled
Package: gnumail.app Version: 1.1.2-5 Severity: wishlist I have tried both with LANG=bg_BG.UTF-8 and LANG=bg_BG (CP1251), but cyrillic characters in the main window (e.g. From, Subject) are displayed scrambled (US-ASCII?). Bug#287561: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686: kernel BUG at mm/prio_tree.c:333!
Debian Bug Tracking System wrote: anyway your kernel is tainted, the Debian kernel team doesn't support binary modules nor does upstream Do you read bugreports anyway? I have also attached a complete syslog out where the kernel crashed and it wasn't tainted. As the bug is not fixed i will keep on reopening this bug. I have told you its completly reproducable (and yes without a tainted kernel as you can see if you do a bit of exploring in the bug reports). I have memtested, and found no problems, swapped all the hardware, and the problem still existed. It would be nice that if you did not really do something on a bug, you will refrain from closing it. Bug#293810: FIREFOX_DSP=esddsp does not work and will hang Firefox on closing pages with sound
On Sun, 2005-02-06 at 01:45 -0500, Eric Dorland wrote: Works fine for me. Are you sure esd is running? Do you have esound-clients installed? Does sound work in other apps? I do have esound-clients installed. I'm almost certain esd is running, as sound works for other apps, including general GNOME sounds, Evolution, Gaim, and gstreamer, which I've set to use esdsink. From Googling, I know at least in the semi-recent past, people have had the same problem. For example, http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2004/08/msg06171.html is an August 2004 post to debian-user detailing one person's workaround for this bug. http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2005/01/msg02240.html is the most recent thread that Google can find for this; this thread is from the middle of January. (The Google search used was site:lists.debian.org firefox debian esd flash.) Hmm...I do have udev installed, if that makes any difference. Bug#290916: STFU
Please make sure that when you adjust bug severities, there's a clear rationale visible in the bug log (rationales embedded in messages to control require digging to get at from the webpage, and are not sent to the maintainer). I prefer to put rationale in the control message unless it's information about the bug itself. Do you use XDMCP? It is used at my site. I imagine that XDMCP is not the *most* common use case these days, but I think it's still important enough that if XDMCP is really this broken in GDM, it should be fixed (or at least prominently documented) before release. Of course it should be fixed. The criterion for grave severity is supposed to be whether or not the bug renders package unusable. Of course, the maintainer can set the severity to serious for any reason he likes. Please keep in mind that the purpose of a BSP is to *improve the quality of Debian*, not merely to hide bugs from view so that we can release. Thanks for the information. It would have been nice if you had made an effort to fix this bug instead of just downgrading it. It would be nice if you kept your presumptions to yourself. -- Thomas Hood [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Unfortunately it doesn't fail on x86, so I cannot dig into it myself. I just tried here. With xsltproclibxslt1 1.1.8-5 and libxml2 2.6.16-2, it segfaults. With xsltproclibxslt1 1.1.12-3 from experimental and libxml2 2.6.16-2, it doesn't. On x86. So I guess this is it. libxslt 1.1.12-4 is in unstable, now, gmime2.1 should get correctly built on all arches. I will close this bug as soon as some arches will try rebuilding gmime2.1. Bug#293850: ttf-bitstream-vera: Missing U+2010 HYPHEN character - leads to ugly boxes in UTF-8 man output
Package: ttf-bitstream-vera Version: 1.10-3 Severity: normal The fonts in this package are missing the U+2010 HYPHEN character. This is not normally visible as one mostly encounters the ASCII minus-or-hyphen character, which looks identical. However, in a UTF-8 locale, man (for some reason) sometimes produces unicode hyphens. As a result, using Bitstream Sans Mono Bold as a terminal font produces ugly unknown character boxes in (some) man pages. To replicate this problem, set your terminal font to Bitstream Vera Sans Mono Bold (in Konsole, for definiteness), set your locale to a UTF-8 locale (as below) and then run man fc-cache. The hyphen in fc-cache will become a U+2010, which will look like a box. Alternatively, if python is installed, set up the terminal as above and run $ python Python 2.3.4 (#2, Jan 5 2005, 08:24:51) [GCC 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-5)] on linux2 Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information. print u\u2010 The character above (in this message) is actually a U+2010, so you could also try viewing this message in a Bitstream Vera Sans family font. Be warned that mozilla-firefox helpfully borrows characters from other fonts to cope. To fix this, all that is needed is to add a single character to the font; the character U+2010 simply needs to be made a duplicate of the ASCII minus-or-hyphen. I have done this on my home copies and it resolves the problem, but the license on this package seems to preclude distributing the fixed version under the current name. So upstream needs to fix this (which should be easy). Bug#240034: This bug makes it difficult to use two simultaneous SSH tunnels
Hi, I'm trying to reduce the number of times that my password is broadcast in cleartext across the air, so I'd like to tunnel my POP accesses through SSH (well, I'd *really* like to use IMAP-SSL, but my ISPs don't do that). The problem is that I have two accounts with two different passwords, and thunderbird thinks it's connecting to the same host twice, so it sends the same password. So for the moment I need to come up with something else - using 127.0.0.1 for one will work for now (but how would I make three servers work?). Bug#293857: scaling when transcoding doesn't scale subtitles
Package: vlc Version: 0.8.1-3 Severity: normal Hi, I've got a 17 monitor on a system without DVD drive, and a 12 monitor on a laptop with DVD drive. This is a perfect situation to use VLC's streaming properties -- viewing DVD movies on a larger monitor is so much more comfortable, while I prefer not having to copy an entire DVD image to the other system's hard disk. However, since my LAN is only a 10Mbit one currently, streaming a DVD at full quality simply isn't possible; it requires more bandwith than what I have available. So, I selected the transcoding option in the VLC interface. While experimenting with that option, I discovered that scaling down the resolution of the stream while leaving the stream's bitrate on maximum has a much higher impact on the required bandwith than doing it the other way around, while the impact on quality is negligable (so long as the scale isn't too high). Unfortunately, something went wrong with subtitles; they just didn't appear on the output. Only when I played a DVD that at one point had the subtitles all on top did I find out what went wrong: these are simply not scaled, they're still on the original scale. As a result, if the stream is transcoded to a lower resolution, subtitles won't be visible. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages vlc depends on: ii aalib1 1.4p5-22ascii art library ii dbus-1 0.23-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii liba52-0.7.4 0.7.4-1 Library for decoding ATSC A/52 str ii libc62.3.2.ds1-20GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libdvbpsi3 0.1.4-2 library for MPEG TS and DVB PSI ta ii libdvdnav4 0.1.9-3 The DVD navigation library ii libdvdread3 0.9.4-5 Simple foundation for reading DVDs ii libflac6 1.1.1-5 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libfreetype6 2.1.7-2.3 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libfribidi0 0.10.4-6Free Implementation of the Unicode ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-7 GCC support library ii libgnutls11 1.0.16-13 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libhal0 0.4.7-1 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libid3tag0 0.15.1b-3 ID3 tag reading library from the M ii liblircclient0 0.7.1pre1-1 LIRC client library ii libmad0 0.15.1b-1 MPEG audio decoder library ii libmodplug0 1:0.7-4 shared libraries for mod music bas ii libmpeg2-4 0.4.0b-2MPEG1 and MPEG2 video decoder libr ii libncurses5 5.4-4 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libogg0 1.1.0-1 Ogg Bitstream Library ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-1 PNG library - runtime ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtar 1.2.11-2C library for manipulating tar arc ii libtheora0 0.0.0.alpha3-1 The Theora Video Compression Codec ii libvorbis0a 1.0.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisenc21.0.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxml2 2.6.11-5GNOME XML library ii libxosd2 2.2.14-1X On-Screen Display library - runt ii libxv1 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System video extension li ii slang1 1.4.9dbs-8 The S-Lang programming library - r ii ttf-freefont 20031008-1.1Freefont Serif, Sans and Mono True ii wxvlc0.8.1-3 wxWindows frontend for VLC ii xlibmesa-gl [libgl1] 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 Mesa 3D graphics library [XFree86] ii xlibmesa-glu [libglu1] 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 Mesa OpenGL utility library [XFree ii xlibs4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#291405: additional justification - doxytag deprecated
An additional justification for my original request is that the doxytag utility is listed as deprecated by the doxygen docs. Furthermore, if we're speaking about doxygen, here's an entry from http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/faq.html, ending with a request from the Doxygen author for a database of the STL `dummy' classes. If you consider fulfilling the present wishlist bug and include the proper tags pointing to the real docs, the doxygen author will likely be interested to know about it. Doxygen is unware of the STL classes, so it does not know that class A relates to class B in the following example #include vector using namespace std; class B {}; class A { public: vectorB m_bvec; }; To overcome this problem you could provide the definition of the vector class to doxygen (by including the file that defines it at the INPUT tag in the config file). Since STL header files are often messy, a (possibly) better approach is to include a dummy definition of a vector class to the input. Here is an example of a dummy STL file for the vector class: namespace std { /*! STL vector class */ templateclass T class vector { public: T element; }; } I'm still looking for someone who can provide me with definitions for all (relevant) STL classes. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#63909: base-files: Base Files does not ensure the utmp group exists before trying to use it
I don't understand why you ask not to create the utmp group (maybe you don't by now, then this bug should be closed). If the question was to avoid recreating the utmp group when upgrading from another distribution than debian , there are ways to test if hte group already exists, no need to ask the user. the patch already submitted use grep , but getent passwd would do fine too. If there is a real need for this question , this bug should at least be marked wontfix. Regards Alban -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#293809: rhythmbox doesn't work with Gnome
Loïc Minier said: Carl T. Miller [EMAIL PROTECTED] - Sat, Feb 05, 2005: If I try to open a radio station in rhythmbox, I get this message: OSS Device /dev/dsp is already in use by another program. If I disable sound events in Gnome, rhythmbox works as expected. Do you have esound installed? Did you configure your esound daemon to release /dev/dsp when idle? Another solution is to configure your GStreamer properties to use esound audiosink instead of oss (see README.Debian). Thanks! I didn't even know where to look. It turns out that I had esound and gstreamer0.8 installed and configured correctly, but I didn't have gstreamer0.8-plugins. After installing that pseudo-package, I was able to chose ESD in the GStreamer properties, and everything works!

I do not know if the problem is due to the slash \ or to the space into the name. The problem is due to the space in the name and can easily be reproduced by manually editing a user name in /etc/passwd to contain a space and then trying to send a message from that account by invoking /bin/mail. It is a clear upstream bug and has already been reported upstream. I hope they will fix it in time. I have tried to use rewriting as a short-time fix, but it looks like exim barfs on the second line of the header spool file containing user name, uid and gid, space separated, and there is no rewriting option for this. I am afraid that we will have to wait for an upstream fix here. Greetings Marc -- - Marc Haber | I don't trust Computers. Bug#293867: installation on sparc ultra5 overwrites Master Boot Sectors with silo
Package: installation-reports Version: Debian 3.0r2 Severity: important Processor: UltraSPARC-IIi 440 MHz Root Device: IDE I have installed Debian Linux 3.0r2 on my ultra5 (There are two large IDE disks (60 GB and 120GB) with several versions of solaris on there and now of course Debian Linux ;) My main problem was that during my installation I had only the possibility to let silo install on the master boot sectors. (The possibility of making a boot floppy failed) Afterwards neither solaris nor linux started but silo was installed. I had to remove silo by starting the solaris boot cd and restore the solaris boot blocks. (On a root shell you can type installboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d 0s0 ) Afterwards I booted the Debian cd mounted my linux partition and run silo -r /mnt -t to install silo on the linux partition. Afterwards everything worked fine. I can now boot silo or solaris from the OpenBoot and from silo I can boot linux) It would be great if the new debian has a possibility to let the master boot blocks untouched. There should be one option e.g. 4. save silo installation (Master Boot Sector will not be changed) Installing silo with the -t option seems to be a save method and does not harm. It's really a nasty thing to remove silo (if something goes wrong like in my example (perhaps too large disks) or you want/have to remove linux/silo) and restore the old boot blocks. I would prefer to have some automatic method for correctly HELOing, as your suggested change doesn't work well with multi-homed hosts and not at all with hosts that dynamically change their IP address. That automatism is not yet possible, the required expansion variable is on upstream's wishlist (item 164). In the mean time, I'd like to suggest that you manually set the helo_data option on the SMTP transport. It is not possible to have every aspect configured via debconf, and the MTA configuration is already way too complicated. Greetings Marc -- - Marc Haber | I don't trust Computers. However, this issue is only appearing on one machine, on the other the same setup works fine. exim mainlog: 2005-02-06 14:44:29 1CxmiC-0001tH-O5 malware acl condition: clamd: unable to read from socket (No such file or directory) 2005-02-06 14:44:29 1CxmiC-0001tH-O5 H=dns [ip] F=from temporarily rejected after DATA clamav log: Sun Feb 6 14:44:29 2005 - Client disconnected [1] http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports-bugs/2004-December/047147.html -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.24 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages clamav depends on: ii clamav-freshclam [clamav-da 0.81-2 downloads clamav virus databases f ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.2-1 A high-quality block-sorting file ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libclamav1 0.81-2 virus scanner library ii libcurl37.12.3-2 Multi-protocol file transfer libra ii libgmp3 4.1.2-4 Multiprecision arithmetic library ii libidn110.5.2-3 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7d-3 SSL shared libraries ii zlib1g 1:1.2.1-5compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
