Bug#293801: qa.debian.org: please show packages with Uploaders header

2005-02-06 Thread Andreas Barth
* Bartosz Fenski aka fEnIo ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [050205 21:55]:
 Would be great if http://qa.debian.org/developer.php could show also
 packages where I'm mentioned as uploader.

That should work (well, it works at least for me and many others). Do
you use different mail addresses / names there or so?

Cheers,
Andi

Bug#293840: Cyrillic characters in main window are displayed scrambled

2005-02-06 Thread Yavor Doganov
Package: gnumail.app
Version: 1.1.2-5
Severity: wishlist

I have tried both with LANG=bg_BG.UTF-8 and LANG=bg_BG (CP1251), but
cyrillic characters in the main window (e.g. From, Subject) are
displayed scrambled (US-ASCII?). There is no problem in the Message view
window, as I changed all fonts in the Preferences to Free Sans.
Same thing is happening in the Compose window when I type a subject with
cyrillic characters or I try to create a new mailbox with a cyrillic
name.

Do you read bugreports anyway? I have also attached a complete syslog
out where the kernel crashed and it wasn't tainted.

As the bug is not fixed i will keep on reopening this bug.
I have told you its completly reproducable (and yes without a tainted
kernel as you can see if you do a bit of exploring in the bug reports).

I have memtested, and found no problems, swapped all the hardware, and
the problem still existed.

It would be nice that if you did not really do something on a bug, you
will refrain from closing it.

Bug#293810: FIREFOX_DSP=esddsp does not work and will hang Firefox on closing pages with sound

I do have esound-clients installed. I'm almost certain esd is running,
as sound works for other apps, including general GNOME sounds,
Evolution, Gaim, and gstreamer, which I've set to use esdsink.

From Googling, I know at least in the semi-recent past, people have had
the same problem. For example,
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2004/08/msg06171.html is an August
2004 post to debian-user detailing one person's workaround for this bug.
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2005/01/msg02240.html is the most
recent thread that Google can find for this; this thread is from the
middle of January. (The Google search used was site:lists.debian.org
firefox debian esd flash.)

Hmm...I do have udev installed, if that makes any difference.

Feel free to ask for any other information you might want.

Bug#290916: STFU

2005-02-06 Thread Thomas Hood
 Please make sure that when you adjust bug severities, there's a clear
 rationale visible in the bug log (rationales embedded in messages to control
 require digging to get at from the webpage, and are not sent to the
 maintainer).

I prefer to put rationale in the control message unless it's information
about the bug itself.

 Do you use XDMCP?

It is used at my site.

 I imagine that XDMCP is not the *most* common use case
 these days, but I think it's still important enough that if XDMCP is really
 this broken in GDM, it should be fixed (or at least prominently documented)
 before release.

Of course it should be fixed. The criterion for grave severity is
supposed to be whether or not the bug renders package unusable. Of
course, the maintainer can set the severity to serious for any reason
he likes.

 Please keep in mind that the purpose of a BSP is to *improve the quality of
 Debian*, not merely to hide bugs from view so that we can release.

Thanks for the information.

 It would
 have been nice if you had made an effort to fix this bug instead of just
 downgrading it.

It would be nice if you kept your presumptions to yourself.

libxslt 1.1.12-4 is in unstable, now, gmime2.1 should get correctly
built on all arches. I will close this bug as soon as some arches will
try rebuilding gmime2.1.

Hi,

 There's no need for us wasting our time discussing about whether or not
 one should rant, I suggest we go on in the direction which helps
 Galeon.

 I talked with upstream again and mentionned the behavior of firefox and
 Epi this time, and upstream proposed a patch which I attach here.

Bug#272258: mozilla-firefox: and what about crystalsvg-icon-theme?

2005-02-06 Thread Bastian Venthur
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0+dfsg.1-4
Followup-For: Bug #272258

I've installed a package -- I think it is kde-icons-crystal -- and when I look
at /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps/firefox.png I think it looks quite
similar to the original firefox-icon (if not even equal).

So what's the point? Why is the crystal-icon-theme allowed to redistribute
this logo and mozilla-firefox not?

May it be possible to borrow the icon from the crystal-theme and use it for
firefox as default, or do we have to fill a policy-vioalation against the
crystal-icon-theme?

Sincerely

Bastian

Bug#293848: backuppc: Security hole by default password?

2005-02-06 Thread Herbert Thielen
Package: backuppc
Version: 2.1.0-8
Severity: important

Backuppc installs a default Web account.

Probably this web account often won't be changed; maybe the admin just
has installed the package to try it at some time later.

Using this account, it may be possible to access files on the backuppc
host.

Probably it would be better to ask for the backuppc user and password,
as it's done by many other web based packages.

Bug#278345: more info

2005-02-06 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Hi !

 I tested with other usb storage devices too, a fuji digicam and a transcend
 usb flash drive and they all reported at once that SMART is not supported.

 So it appears the problem is a crap cardreader (made by Chronos, actual
 chip from ICSI (Integrated Circuit Solution, Inc). hddtemp is not at fault,
 maybe the usb-storage driver in kernel can do something. I've taken it to
 the kernel list.

I am currently converting hddtemp to SG_IO, and I may have found a fix
(or rather a workaround) for your problem. It seems that's buggy USB
devices don't like SCSI StdInquiry 36 bytes. I have fixed that in the
SG_IO version of hddtemp, but it is not yet functionnal, so I have
backported the change to the current version.

As I can't reproduce your problem, it would be nice if you could test
the new version available on http://temp.aurel32.net/hddtemp

Bug#293178: cupsys-driver-gimpprint-data: Bogus UTF-8 characters in PPDs

2005-02-06 Thread Richard Cohen
Roger Leigh wrote:
I've now built a new set of packages, and the generated data is

 Does this fix the problem?

Yes, it's fine now. Thanks for your quick work! But see below

... CUPS is serving it as
Content-Type: text/html;charset=iso-8859-15
That is weird. I've no explanation for that one! If this still
occurs with the fixed packages, please file a bug against cupsys.
Yes it still happens. It looks the same as an existing i18n bug filed
against cupsys:
  #259881: cupsys: Doesn't detect charset when getting printer info
from OS X
-
... I took a look at genppd.c (and the code from HEAD) and have a few
suggestions:

+ In Makefile.am, specify the catalog for the C locale, like you for
nls, so that it doesn't pick up one from /usr/share/locale:
for language in C ; do \
  mkdir ppd/$$language ; \
  echo $$language: ; \
  LANGUAGE=$$language ./genppd --prefix=ppd/$$language
--catalog=`pwd`/catalog/share/locale; \
done
+ when writing out the ppd, use the encoding from the message catalog:
 {
   const char* ppd_encoding=_(ISOLatin1);
   if (!strcmp(ppd_encoding, ISOLatin1))
 bind_textdomain_codeset(PACKAGE, ISO-8859-1);
   else if (!strcmp(ppd_encoding, ISOLatin2))
 bind_textdomain_codeset(PACKAGE, ISO-8859-2);
   /*
  else if (!strcmp(ppd_encoding, ISOLatin7))
  bind_textdomain_codeset(PACKAGE, ISO-8859-7);
  ... any other possible PPD LanguageEncoding ...
   */
   else if (!strcmp(ppd_encoding, UTF-8))
 bind_textdomain_codeset(PACKAGE, ISO-8859-1);
   else
   {
 fprintf(stderr, genppd: unrecognized encoding in catalog: %s\n,
 ppd_encoding);
 exit(1);
   }
 }
and maybe add a gentle warning if it's not the same as the locale encoding.
CUPS will still live in its own Latin-15 world :(, but you will be doing
the right thing.
+ ISOLatin1 and English are wrongly translated in el.po and ja.po.
+ Shouldn't you use --language in ppd-nls, so that StpLocale
StpPPDLocation are filled in correctly ?
+ LANGUAGE= is not portable (yes, I've read the README), and it would be
better to hide it inside genppd.c under the --language option,
something like
 unsetenv(LANG), unsetenv(LANGUAGE), setenv(LC_ALL, language, 1)
or even just
 unsetenv(LANGUAGE), setlocale(LC_MESSAGES, language)

If *really* necessary, you could use a configure macro.
+ Ideally, of course, CUPS would do the localisation at runtime when a
client asks for the PPD.

Thanks,
Richard.

Bug#293850: ttf-bitstream-vera: Missing U+2010 HYPHEN character - leads to ugly boxes in UTF-8 man output

2005-02-06 Thread Andrew Archibald
Package: ttf-bitstream-vera
Version: 1.10-3
Severity: normal
The fonts in this package are missing the U+2010 HYPHEN character. This
is not normally visible as one mostly encounters the ASCII
minus-or-hyphen character, which looks identical. However, in a UTF-8
locale, man (for some reason) sometimes produces unicode hyphens. As a
result, using Bitstream Sans Mono Bold as a terminal font produces ugly
unknown character boxes in (some) man pages.
To replicate this problem, set your terminal font to Bitstream Vera
Sans Mono Bold (in Konsole, for definiteness), set your locale to a
UTF-8 locale (as below) and then run man fc-cache. The hyphen in
fc-cache will become a U+2010, which will look like a box.
Alternatively, if python is installed, set up the terminal as above and run
$ python
Python 2.3.4 (#2, Jan  5 2005, 08:24:51)
[GCC 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-5)] on linux2
Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information.
 print u\u2010

The character above (in this message) is actually a U+2010, so you could
also try viewing this message in a Bitstream Vera Sans family font. Be
warned that mozilla-firefox helpfully borrows characters from other
fonts to cope.

To fix this, all that is needed is to add a single character to the
font; the character U+2010 simply needs to be made a duplicate of the
ASCII minus-or-hyphen. I have done this on my home copies and it
resolves the problem, but the license on this package seems to preclude
distributing the fixed version under the current name. So upstream
needs to fix this (which should be easy).
Thanks,
Andrew

Bug#293852: nautilus: Thumbnails cache badly supports symlinks

2005-02-06 Thread Cyril Bouthors
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.8.2-2
Severity: normal

~cyb/image/maps is a directory containings many JPEG world maps and
~cyb/maps is a symlink to it:

drwx--  3 cyb cyb 4096 2005-01-31 10:39 ~cyb/image/maps
lrwxrwxrwx  1 cyb cyb   10 2004-10-12 21:04 ~cyb/maps - image/maps

When I open the directory with Nautilus, the thumbnails are displayed
instantly thanks to the cache but when I open the symlink instead,
Nautilus builds another version of the cache for the same files.

It takes a while to build it and I guess it also wastes diskspace
under the ~/.thumbnails/ directory.

Nautilus should recognize that ~cyb/maps and ~cyb/image/maps are the
same thing.

Thanks.

Bug#240034: This bug makes it difficult to use two simultaneous SSH tunnels

2005-02-06 Thread Andrew Archibald
Hi,
I'm trying to reduce the number of times that my password is broadcast
in cleartext across the air, so I'd like to tunnel my POP accesses
through SSH (well, I'd *really* like to use IMAP-SSL, but my ISPs don't
do that). The problem is that I have two accounts with two different
passwords, and thunderbird thinks it's connecting to the same host
twice, so it sends the same password. So for the moment I need to come
up with something else - using 127.0.0.1 for one will work for now (but
how would I make three servers work?).

Bug#284115: apache-common: mod_bandwidth breaks resumes/multiple downloads

2005-02-06 Thread Piotr Krukowiecki
retitle 284115 mod_bandwidth breaks resumes/concurrent downloads
thanks

Way to reproduce bug:

1. Set up mod_bandwidth, for example i have following config:

IfModule mod_bandwidth.c
BandWidthModule On
Directory /
BandWidth xxx.xxx.xx 0
BandWidth xxx.xxx.yy 0
BandWidth all 502400
/Directory
/IfModule

2. Download part of the file, using 1 connection. Then stop the download.
Then resume and finish downloading.
The file will be different the the oryginal file.

3. Download the file using more then 1 connection (e.g. using pget -n 2
in lftp). The file will be different then the oryginal file.

The problem doesn't occure with new mod_bandwidth (v. 2.0.6).

Fix: e.g. use attached file instead of 504_mod_bandwidth_paths
(it changes MASTER_DIR and LINK_DIR so you may want to change to retain
backward compability)

Bug#293857: scaling when transcoding doesn't scale subtitles

2005-02-06 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.1-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've got a 17 monitor on a system without DVD drive, and a 12 monitor
on a laptop with DVD drive. This is a perfect situation to use VLC's
streaming properties -- viewing DVD movies on a larger monitor is so
much more comfortable, while I prefer not having to copy an entire DVD
image to the other system's hard disk.

However, since my LAN is only a 10Mbit one currently, streaming a DVD at
full quality simply isn't possible; it requires more bandwith than what
I have available. So, I selected the transcoding option in the VLC
interface. While experimenting with that option, I discovered that
scaling down the resolution of the stream while leaving the stream's
bitrate on maximum has a much higher impact on the required bandwith
than doing it the other way around, while the impact on quality is
negligable (so long as the scale isn't too high).

Unfortunately, something went wrong with subtitles; they just didn't
appear on the output. Only when I played a DVD that at one point had the
subtitles all on top did I find out what went wrong: these are simply
not scaled, they're still on the original scale. As a result, if the
stream is transcoded to a lower resolution, subtitles won't be visible.

 On GNU/kFreeBSD, /dev/bpf0 is not readable by users. This patch is in
 upstream BTS.

Okay, but as I told you in #266899, I don't want to change the libpcap
packages before sarge. This will have to wait.

Bad :(

Could you please test if you get the same error with smartctl (from the

 Hi,

 I was using autoconf 2.59 instead of 2.13, and probably a more
 recent version of automake too since 1.5 isn't available in
 Debian.

 The attached patch works using autoconf2.13.

The previous patch was a little broken but it did work. Here is
a fixed version.

Bug#280775: evolution: consistenly losing focus when entering mail address

2005-02-06 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Package: evolution
Version: 2.0.3-1.2

If I use the mouse to pick a choice in the autocompletion list of a new
mail's address field, the mail window loses the focus, I'm able to take
a pick in the drop zone, but not validate it.

There is no way to recover other than to switch to the
console and kill evolution. If I use the cursor keys then everything is
going fine, iff the mouse doesn't enter the drop zone.

=item

include nodup in same script

=item

Handle if the files allready have other hardlinks to it in the same tree

=item

Several improbvements

=back

Hi all,

hawhaw (and hawhaw-doc/hawxy) needs a new maintainer. I'm not using this
any more, and don't have the time to maintain it. hawhaw-doc is quite
hard to produce from upstream, but this should be easier from version

 Previously I had a white sheet icon for compressed archives, not so good
 but coherent with themes. Suddenly I have the horrible little white
 sheet icons that is, I think, associated to unknown files. Is it
 possible to have the complete Nuvola theme icons?

This seems to be a bug in GTK+ 2.6. I'll investigate further.

Making it serious, not as a real severity, but as we really can't
release with that; it's completely breaking theme support.

Bug#291405: additional justification - doxytag deprecated

2005-02-06 Thread Vassilii Khachaturov
An additional justification for my original request is that the
doxytag utility is listed as deprecated by the doxygen docs.

Furthermore, if we're speaking about doxygen, here's an
entry from http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/faq.html,
ending with a request from the Doxygen author for a database
of the STL `dummy' classes. If you consider fulfilling
the present wishlist bug and include the proper tags pointing
to the real docs, the doxygen author will likely be interested
to know about it.

Doxygen is unware of the STL classes, so it does not know that class A
relates to class B in the following example

#include vector

using namespace std;

class B {};

class A
{
  public:
vectorB m_bvec;
};

To overcome this problem you could provide the definition of the vector
class to doxygen (by including the file that defines it at the INPUT
tag in
the config file). Since STL header files are often messy, a (possibly)
better approach is to include a dummy definition of a vector class to
the
input. Here is an example of a dummy STL file for the vector class:

namespace std {
  /*! STL vector class */
  templateclass T class vector { public: T element; };
}

I'm still looking for someone who can provide me with definitions for
all
(relevant) STL classes.

Bug#63909: base-files: Base Files does not ensure the utmp group exists before trying to use it

2005-02-06 Thread browaeys . alban
I don't understand why you ask not to create the utmp group
(maybe you don't by now, then this bug should be closed).
If the question was to avoid recreating the utmp group when
 upgrading from another distribution than debian , there are ways
to test if hte group already exists, no need to ask the user.
the patch already submitted use grep , but getent passwd would
do fine too.

If there is a real need for this question , this bug should at
least be marked wontfix.

 If I try to open a radio station in rhythmbox, I get this message:

 If I disable sound events in Gnome, rhythmbox works as expected.

  Do you have esound installed? Did you configure your esound daemon to
  release /dev/dsp when idle?

  Another solution is to configure your GStreamer properties to use
  esound audiosink instead of oss (see README.Debian).

Thanks! I didn't even know where to look. It turns out that
I had esound and gstreamer0.8 installed and configured correctly,
but I didn't have gstreamer0.8-plugins. After installing that
pseudo-package, I was able to chose ESD in the GStreamer properties,

The problem is due to the space in the name and can easily be
reproduced by manually editing a user name in /etc/passwd to contain a
space and then trying to send a message from that account by invoking
/bin/mail.

It is a clear upstream bug and has already been reported upstream. I
hope they will fix it in time.

I have tried to use rewriting as a short-time fix, but it looks like
exim barfs on the second line of the header spool file containing user
name, uid and gid, space separated, and there is no rewriting option
for this.

I am afraid that we will have to wait for an upstream fix here.

Hi,

that a package has wrong endianness is at least grave, as the package
cannot be used at all. Another issue is that the information on which
platforms the package should be built is contradictory. Please decide on
which platforms it should work, make sure that the source package
architecture line tells it, and ask for a proper entry in
package-arch-specific.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Andi

Bug#293867: installation on sparc ultra5 overwrites Master Boot Sectors with silo

2005-02-06 Thread Roland Egger
Package: installation-reports
Version: Debian 3.0r2
Severity: important

Processor: UltraSPARC-IIi 440 MHz
Root Device: IDE

I have installed Debian Linux 3.0r2 on my ultra5
(There are two large IDE disks (60 GB and 120GB) with several versions
of solaris on there and now of course Debian Linux ;)

My main problem was that during my installation I had only
the possibility to let silo install on the master boot sectors.
(The possibility of making a boot floppy failed)

Afterwards neither solaris nor linux started but silo was installed.
I had to remove silo by starting the solaris boot cd and restore the
solaris boot blocks.
(On a root shell you can type
installboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t0d
0s0
)
Afterwards I booted the Debian cd mounted my
linux partition and run silo -r /mnt -t to install silo on the linux
partition. Afterwards everything worked fine.
I can now boot silo or solaris from the OpenBoot and from silo I can
boot linux)
It would be great if the new debian has a possibility to let the
master boot blocks untouched. There should be one option e.g.
4. save silo installation (Master Boot Sector will not be changed)

Installing silo with the -t option seems to be a save method and does
not harm. It's really a nasty thing to remove silo (if something
goes wrong like in my example (perhaps too large disks) or you
want/have to remove linux/silo) and restore the old boot blocks.

Kind regards
  Roland

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I am no longer using pdftohtml, so I would like for someone to take it
over. The package is in a pretty poor state, and really needs attention.
It no longer sees upstream support or development, although the original
author is very helpful when asked about specific problems.

 I do not see any way setting the default HELO name in debconf, so I suggest
 that that is asked via dialog (dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config), and by
 default the content of /etc/mailname is offered.

I would prefer to have some automatic method for correctly HELOing, as
your suggested change doesn't work well with multi-homed hosts and not
at all with hosts that dynamically change their IP address.

That automatism is not yet possible, the required expansion variable
is on upstream's wishlist (item 164).

In the mean time, I'd like to suggest that you manually set the
helo_data option on the SMTP transport. It is not possible to have
every aspect configured via debconf, and the MTA configuration is
already way too complicated.

Greetings
Marc
