  Squid ClamAV Redirector is a Squid helper script to get virus scanning for
  defined extensions (for example .exe, .com, .bat ...), thanks to the Clam
  AntiVirus toolkit.
  .
  SCAVR handles the request as given from Squid, downloads the URL and scans it
  for known virus. If a file is infected, it rewrites the URL from Squid to a
  blocked URL or to an info page with scanning results.

 I did a dist-upgrade, because of which the kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686 was
 upgraded from version 2.6.11-3 to 2.6.11-5. But looks like there is a
 problem with the checksums on module.* files in
 lib/modules/2.6.11-1-686/

Hi,

Those files are updated when your run depmod.
They should probably be excluded from the package all together.
I suspect that they are being incuded by make-kpkg, which is
used to build the kernel packages. I have CCed Manoj, the
maintainer of that code to see if he has a comment.

Bug#312183: kturtle: Inappropriate characters in logo file names produces failures in locate and other tools

2005-06-06 Thread James Youngman
Package: kturtle
Version: 4:3.3.2-3
Severity: important
Tags: l10n

Some of the file names in this package are in the Latin-1 character
encoding scheme:

$ ls -1 /usr/share/apps/kturtle/examples/fr_FR | iconv -f latin1 -t utf8
carrogo
enroulogo
exemple1.logo
triangle.logo

If the user's locale is one which uses some other character encoding
scheme, these can generate incorrect results in other system tools,
for example coreutils and findutils. This is because the 'character forms a leading byte of an invalid multibyte character
sequence in UTF-8.

The effect of this is that such filenames fail to match the glob
characters ? and *. Essentially, ls, find and locate (among
other things) generate the wrong result for these files. If the user
modifies their locale to an ISO-8859-1 locale, then these filenames
are not a problem.

However, I think it's inappropriate for Debian packages to use
filenames that cause other tools (also from Debian packages) to work
incorrectly:-

$ ( find . ; echo ===; find . -name '*' ) | iconv -f latin1 -t utf8
.
./triangle.logo
./carrogo
./enroulogo
./exemple1.logo
===
.
./triangle.logo
./exemple1.logo
$ /bin/ls --ignore='*' | iconv -f latin1 -t utf8
carrogo
enroulogo

Bug#310134: rezound: This filename also breaks ls, find, locate

2005-06-06 Thread James Youngman
Package: rezound
Version: 0.12.0beta-1
Followup-For: Bug #310134

This particular character in the filename also breaks find, locate and
ls when the user's locale is UTF-8.

The reason for this is that in UTF-8, that character forms the start
of a multibyte character sequence. Since the character is not
followed with the required second byte, the filename cannot be seen by
locate 'p*aps' or by find:-

$ find /usr/share -maxdepth 1 -name *maps
/usr/share/pixmaps
/usr/share/keymaps
$ LANG=POSIX find /usr/share -maxdepth 1 -name *maps | iconv -f latin1 -t
utf8/usr/share/pixmaps
/usr/share/keymaps
/usr/share/paps

This sort of filename also confuses ls:-

$ pwd
/usr/share
$ ls -1 --ignore='*'
p?xmaps
$ ls -1 | wc -l
279
$

I think it's better if we avoid the use of such filenames.

 I found this kernel not to been able to boot properly (after an

 The boot process does not complete (breaks quite early) and keeps on
 cycling displaying the following messages (copied by hand):

 Check your 'root=' argument passed on boot by bootloader.

 I believe this bug to be specific to sid but it has to be checked
 again (having upgraded -- from a fresh new install -- my only powerpc
 machine to sid, I cannot check it anymore for pure sarge).

Hi,

I believe that this is an problem with initrd and has been

  I have found that luola does not start on ppc machines (confimed on
  #debian-devel by tarzeau).

  I suppose is an endianness problem as this does not happen on i386, but
  was confirmed on ppc.

 Setting this to severity important, grave is defined by policy as:

 grave

I have discused this with DDs on #debian-devel and they suggested that
I should place that severity to grave, 'cause it might be the same
situation for all BE machines (iirc, vorlon told me)

 You say it does not work on ppc, but works on i386. If it took over three
 years to notice that on ppc, and does not cause you to loose data or

I can't comment.

 I do not have (physical) access to a powerpc machine, can you send a patch?

I will try to see what is wrong, but after I get back from work (in

Bug#312185: vorbis-tools: ogg123 plays speex files wrong: clicks, then silence.

2005-06-06 Thread A Costa
Package: vorbis-tools
Version: 1.0.1-1.4
Severity: normal

Starting with this '.spx' file (16K):

http://www.metadecks.org/software/sweep/audio/demos/female_scrub.spx

Which is a female voice saying these days... these days... (etc.) ...
the chicken... is a rare dish.

My system can play that with 'cplay' or 'totem', but not 'ogg123':

% ogg123 -d esd female_scrub.spx

Audio Device:   ESounD output

Playing: female_scrub.spx
Ogg Speex stream: 2 channel, 8000 Hz, narrowband mode

Done.
% ogg123 -d alsa09 female_scrub.spx
{ same thing ... }
% ogg123 -d oss female_scrub.spx
{ same thing ... }

...it always clicks, then is silent. I tried to write it to a '.wav' file:

% ogg123 -d wav -f /tmp/female_scrub.wav female_scrub.spx

Audio Device:   WAV file output

Playing: female_scrub.spx
Ogg Speex stream: 2 channel, 8000 Hz, narrowband mode

Done.
% ls -og /tmp/female_scrub.wav
-rw-r--r--  1 495404 Jun  6 02:16 /tmp/female_scrub.wav

...but the '.wav' is silent with any player. Compressing
it suggests the reason:

% gzip /tmp/female_scrub.wav
% ls -og /tmp/female_scrub.*
-rw-r--r--  1 584 Jun  6 02:16 /tmp/female_scrub.wav.gz

From 495404 bytes down to 584 means it has virtually no data. Therefore
this bug doesn't depend on my hardware or config -- because
writing to '.wav' is pure software.

Hope this helps...

Has the copyright for this translation actually been assigned to the FSF?
If so, under what license is it being made available to Debian?

Bug#312189: bind9 does uses IPv6 for lookups on a non ipv6 host

2005-06-06 Thread geoff . crompton
Package: bind9
Version: 1:9.2.4-1
Severity: normal

At the moment our server bind9 server is trying to do some name
resolving over IPv6. This fails, and I think this leads to a very
verbose log, with lines like:
Jun  5 07:23:13 sd01 kernel: ICMPv6 NA: ndisc_send_ns() failed to
allocate an skb.
While the above line looks more like a kernel bug, from my observations it
seems fairly likely that it is being triggered via binds behaviour.

Most of the bind lookups are occuring over IPv4, and are correctly
resolving. I don't have any stats about how many are being attempted
over IPv6. I assume when the IPv6 lookups fail, bind9 retries over IPv4.
I'm sure that it isn't attempting IPv6 for all lookups though, as I
believe I would have noticed the performance hit.

The server has the following addresses assigned:
2: eth0: BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether 00:30:48:70:f3:70 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 192.168.1.103/24 brd 192.168.1.255 scope global eth0
inet6 fe80::230:48ff:fe70:f370/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
3: eth1: BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000
link/ether 00:30:48:70:f3:71 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 192.168.13.1/24 brd 192.168.13.255 scope global eth1
inet6 fe80::230:48ff:fe70:f371/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

Is there some way of turning off support for IPv6 in bind9, or even the
entire OS? It seemed from some packet sniffing it was attempting to
query 2001:620::5. I don't know how it got this IPv6 address.

Bug#312194: k3b hangs at startup

2005-06-06 Thread Nicolas DEGAND
Package: k3b
Version: 0.11.20-2
Severity: grave

k3b hangs at startup when the Splash Screen says verifying CD drives
(not sure of what it says in English). Same as root. k3bsetup works only
as root (hangs as normal user without message) but does not find any
obvious problem.

Bug#312196: bash: Command history search with skel/.inputrc

2005-06-06 Thread Lorenzo Cappelletti
Package: bash
Version: 2.05b-26
Severity: wishlist

Hi there,

I found an interesting feature of readline library which can be of help
for many users. You can search back and forth in the command history by
just adding the following lines to ~/.inputrc:

  # search back and forth in the history with up/down arrows
  \e[A: history-search-backward
  \e[B: history-search-forward

After you login again, you can simply type the first chars of previous
entered command and hit the up-arrow key to search back in the command
history.

Because it can be very useful, I thought to file a request as to add an
.inputrc file under /etc/skel in the following release of the package.

I also attach my .inputrc which contains other interesting options.

Thanks.

Maximiliano Curia [EMAIL PROTECTED] has showed interest in this

I believe that supermount-ng is an important feature that should be in Debian.

That's my opinion too.

I'm willing to work in a team with anyone interested in this package.

I'm ok to team up for this package. Are you still interested ?

Some information about this package:

It can be applied to the following Linux kernel sources:
2.4.20, 2.4.21, 2.4.22, 2.4.23, 2.4.24

Mmmh, lots of new kernels to test.

I already have a working patch against the debian 2.4.27 kernel source.

Although I cannot imagine a sane reason to divert a file to itself, I
happened to do this due to a typo in a script. I do not think there
is a reason for dpkg-divert to delete the diverted file in that case.
If such a reason exists, maybe one can add a security question and a

Bug#312207: initrd-tools: don't include drbd module in initrd

2005-06-06 Thread Andreas Schultz
Package: initrd-tools
Version: 0.1.81.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

mkinitrd currently includes and loads the drbd module
(from drbd0.7-module-source) if it's installed. This moduls
might need additional parameters that are normaly set by its
startup script. Loading it in initrd omits those parameters and
is IMHO pointless anyway.

patch to filter it out:

jsut found out that the patch is not sufficient to keep the module from being

 The Newsflash program retrieves news articles via NNTP from one server and
 delivers them to another. It requires at least read-only permissions
 on the remote server, and needs to have peer permissions on the local

 is optimized for throughput, which makes quite a difference to INN's

 If the Kronolith mcal user already exists, you need to enter it's
 password
 here. Otherwise you need to create a new one. If you want to choose it
 manually, simply type it here.

 's is only used to show possession with ordinary nouns, never with
 pronouns:

 Christian's address
 his address
 Hanna's page
 her page
 Clytie's message
 my message
 Stefan's and Jenna's discussion
 their discussion
 etc.
 so:
 the dog's tail
 its tail

 Apostrophes in pronouns always indicate a missing letter (usually one
 vowel):

 she's = she is
 I'm = I am
 you're = you are
 I'd = I had
 they've = they have
 so:
 it's = it is

 In this string, therefore, you should have:
 you need to enter its password here.

 This mini English lesson is made possible by SPI chocolate.

Bug#312130: I confirm the bug

2005-06-06 Thread Cesar Martinez Izquierdo
Hi, I've tried the program and i'm also unable to log in.

Probably the best thing to do is to delete the package from sarge, as it is
totally unuseful and there is lots of alternatives (unless some users report
that it's usable for them).

Regarding the source code, it can be downloaded from Sourceforge:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/kmerlin/kmerlin-1.4.2.tar.gz?download

 Why? What conflicts with unixodbc-dev in practice? Even libiodbc2-dev has
 its headers under a different name.

If I remember right there is a package conflict because of log.h.

  Including the headers with e.g. odbc/sqlext.h is more significant,
  too.

 It's also not the traditional interface used everywhere else.

Really?! Mmh. In the unixodbc documentation odbc/ is used.

I have a bad feeling to have these libraries with unsignificant
filenames in include-dir.

Due to backports and other packaging decisions by the kernel maintainer with

the latter should not be sent to upstream, but to the Debian BTS).

Bug#309779: gtimer still unstable - freezes randomly, corrupts window

On Tue, 31 May 2005, Russ Allbery wrote:

 I have no idea what's causing this, and the strace didn't really tell me
 anything. It looked like gtimer just wasn't getting any X events, but I
 don't know what would cause that. I'm afraid I'm about at my limits of
 understanding X and GTK programming here.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting you to be able to discover very much from that,
and I can't reproduce it on demand. I'll try leaving ltrace running on it
and hope that we see something interesting around the time it becomes
unresponsive.

 But regardless, I think I see the erroneous code. Would you be willing to
 build a new version of the package with the following patch and see if it
 takes care of the bad window size problem? You can do this with:

 apt-get build-dep gtimer
 apt-get source gtimer

 and then drop this patch into debian/patches/26_309779-bad-size.patch in
 the unpacked source tree and build with debuild or the like.

Yup, that fixes it ;-) Window size no longer changes when the window is
destroyed.

All the best,

Julian

Bug#312213: initrd-tools: excessive amount of modules included in initrd

2005-06-06 Thread Andreas Schultz
Package: initrd-tools
Version: 0.1.81.1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

While hunting for a solution to my bug #312207, i came accross a problem in
module_exists(). The shell replacement in there causes the find statement
to search for to much files. A invocation like:

   module_exists drivers/md/dm-mod

should result in a:

find $MODULEDIR/kernel/drivers/md -name dm-mod.ko

but i generates instead

find $MODULEDIR/kernel/drivers -name dm-mod.ko

This becomes a problem when mkinitrd tests whether a give modules is a scsi
or ide module. It will conclude that modules like thermal or fan are scsi
modules and needlessly include them into the initrd.

The fix is simple and obvious:

In /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/pcaplet.rb getopts is used.
Every application that uses pcaplet produces a anoing warnung:

Comments/Problems:
During boot of Acer Aspire 2000 Laptop the screen is just visible in faint
blinks and therefore gets unreadable when the framebuffer is switched on.
This is done within the
/lib/debian-installer-startup.d/S40framebuffer-module-linux-x86 script in the
2.6/initrd.gz ramdisk image (creation date 05.03.2005)
The modprobe -q fbcon command fails and the loading of modules vesafb or
vga16fb leads to blinking of
 the screen. The only way to get arond was to patch the script just to modprobe
vgastate. The modprobe of fbcon still fails, but the screen is readable and the
installation process can pursue without any further interrogations.

I'm experimenting quite a bit with the debian installer and I'm already a great
fan of it !! Fantastic work and I very much appreciate the preseeding function,
because this leads to an easy customization.

Unfortunately I'm missing a hook to stop the initrd bootup before partitioning.
I'm looking for this hook in order to use the installer as a startup for low
level maintenance on already installed systems. Maybe this hook exists already,
but I wasn't getting too deep into the installers functionality to find out how
to interpret the template files.

If you need any further information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Bug#243387: perl: reason of CGI.pm warnings

2005-06-06 Thread Gabor Kiss
Package: perl
Version: 5.8.4-8
Followup-For: Bug #243387

Line 1695 of CGI.pm (version 3.04):

if (length($ENV{QUERY_STRING})0) {

This function call causes the Use of uninitialized value in length at
(eval 9) line 12. or similar warning.

Workaround:
defined $ENV{QUERY_STRING} or $ENV{QUERY_STRING} = '';
in main program before calling start_form() prevents complainments.

However a fix of CGI.pm would be a far better solution:
if (defined $ENV{QUERY_STRING} and length($ENV{QUERY_STRING})0) {

Bug#312219: hotplug: loads ehci drivers after initializing USB devices

2005-06-06 Thread Simon Richter
Package: hotplug
Version: 0.0.20040329-22
Severity: minor

Hi,

when hotplug initializes my USB ports, it will first load the ohci and
uhci drivers (I have an additional USB card), then load ehci and
reconnect the USB 2.0 devices to the ehci, disconnecting them from the
1.1 hubs.

This causes an avoidable delay while booting, but no other harm, hence
minor.

Although an NMU was uploaded for this bug, because openmotif is in non-free
there were no autobuilds for the package and so it was not updated in time
for release. This bug still exists in sarge and etch, and possibly in woody
as well.

Bug#312218: kernel-patch-suspend2: When resuming, fails to mount root fs

2005-06-06 Thread Johannes Rohr
Package: kernel-patch-suspend2
Version: 2.1.8.9-1
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

Hi and thanks for packaging swsups2 for Debian!

I've compiled a custom kernel (not the one running at the time of
writing!) with swsusp2. I've largely adopted Debian's .config from one
of the latest 2.6.11 kernels with few modifications (i.e. deselected
prehistoric CD-ROM support and OSS as well as compiled in VESA frame
buffer support.)

I have NOT changed Debian's heavily modularized design, since I assumed
that a Debianized kernel patch was prepared for that.

Now, putting the box to sleep works, whle resuming fails. This is what
happens when I try to resume my laptop (the situation on the desktop machine
where I'm writing
this, is very similar).

samba 3.0.14a-4 didn't make the cut for sarge, so this bug is still present

Erm, that bug report made no sense. The problem is that it loads the
drivers for the attached devices right after the host controller, so the
devices are already powered and initialized, then disconnected again,
reconnected to ehci and reinitialized.

Bug#312182: bastille: patch for the bug

2005-06-06 Thread R. Tolga KORKUNCKAYA
Package: bastille
Version: 1:2.1.1-11
Followup-For: Bug #312182

i'm including the patch for the above bug about grub configuration file.
However, as i see the BootSecurity module does not work beyond this bug.
The patch replaces GLOBAL variable for configuration file for debian as
menu.lst and changes its path to its original location as /boot/grub/menu.lst
in several files. But being correctly working in InteractiveBastille it does
not edit it and set a grub password. The temporary file /root/GRUB-PASSWORD
cannot be created and an md5ed password could not be obtained. Thus grub
configuration still does not work.
I'm not sure if we open an other bug report for this insidence or continue from
here.
Well, patch is attached.

So why did it happen on a machine I just recently installed (with a DVD
image I jigdoo'ed during the night from 2005-05-31 to 06-01), and on an
other box which was up-to-date, except for the three packages in the bug

The dpkg version I have here (newly installed box) is 1.10.28, the other
I can only check tonight, but I expect it's the same.

Bug#307068: mouseemu prevents pbbuttonsd to work

   I have tested this and after restarting both mouseemu and pbbuttonsd, i
   got the pbbuttonsd keys back. This seems to fix #307068 as well.

  pbbuttonsd must be started after mouseemu for this to work, and #307068

 Doesn't matter in my setup - I can start mouseemu manually way after
 bootup and pbbuttonsd still receives its events.

i guess the fact my mouseemu configuration uses the fn makes a
difference here.

Bug#243387: CGI.pm warnings

I've opened a cpan bug #5987, but I notice that CGI.pm is up to 3.04,
so newer version may have fixed this.

This function call causes the Use of uninitialized value in length at
(eval 9) line 12. or similar warning.

This version is fixed in version 3.10 of CGI.pm, which is included in
perl 5.8.7.

Packages of 5.8.7 are currently in experimental due to the sarge freeze,
and will be migrated to unstable after the release.

Bug#312219: hotplug: loads ehci drivers after initializing USB devices

On Jun 06, Simon Richter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Erm, that bug report made no sense. The problem is that it loads the
 drivers for the attached devices right after the host controller, so the
 devices are already powered and initialized, then disconnected again,

And again, how do you think this should be solved?

Bug#298998: O: kernel-patch-2.4-supermount-ng -- Automatically mount and unmount removable media

2005-06-06 Thread Maximiliano Curia
Hola Xavier Hienne!

 I believe that supermount-ng is an important feature that should be in
 Debian.
 That's my opinion too.

Excellent.

 I'm willing to work in a team with anyone interested in this package.
 I'm ok to team up for this package. Are you still interested ?

I'll be glad to work in a team.

 Mmmh, lots of new kernels to test.
 I already have a working patch against the debian 2.4.27 kernel source.

That's great.
