Bug#315630: aide: Debconf doesn't ask email address where reports should be mailed.

2005-06-24 Thread vnaum
Package: aide
Version: 0.10-6.1
Severity: normal

When debconf asks Where should daily reports be mailed?
(on package install or dpkg-reconfigure), there is no way to enter new
address.
In ncurses mode there is no textbox to enter text, just OK button.
In readline frontend
Daily reports are mailed to root by default. You may change that here
  or in /etc/default/aide.
is just a message, not a question.

Of course, email still can be changed in /etc/default/aide.

Bug#312513: [ANDREW] Re: Bug#312513: winbind 3.0.14a-4 (sarge) breaks samba ADS member server

2005-06-24 Thread Christian Perrier

OK, let's get Andrew Bartlett's attention on that one first now that
we have as much information as possible..:-)

  http://bugs.debian.org/312513

This one just looks weird. Aside from something that looks like a
logfile parser gone bad (I don't buy the socket misdirection answer, as
it is on word boundaries), I can't see the actual error.

More useful would be trying to 'getent passwd long.realm.name\username'
on the user that is failing.

Martin, can you?

Andrew, if you have an idea to suggest us. Neither Steve nor I can
reproduce the bug because we don't have access to an AD server..:)

Not wishing to be rude, but this sounds like a serious bug in itself.
ADS member server operation is a big part of what Samba does, and I'm a
bit worried you can't test any of this.

Well, see Steve's answer..:-)

Despite my quite strong involvment in Windows systems management, I
still have mnaged to survive *without* ADS, and just still use a good
old flat NT4 domain, which I'm very happy with..:-)

Steve, do you think it's worth for us to post a call for Debian
developers/contributors with access to an ADS domain anhd willing to
help on Samba in the Debian ML? Andrew is right that we will have
more and more problmems supporting the samba package if we can't
really work on the ADS features.

Actually, we have one indeed : our bug reporter who opened this
thread...:-)

Bug#275904: Patch for localechooser to set the default country at build time and not run time

2005-06-24 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Christian Perrier ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 tags 275904 patch
 thanks

The attached patch switches localechooser to use a default country for
BOTH the short and long list, which can be set at build time.

It adds a translatable Default field to the templates, where the
translators should put the ISO code of the country they want to be
default in the country choosing screens.

I have tested it on local builds and will continue testing it, but I
think it deserves some peer review.

The patch, as proposed, break all languages which formerly didn't show
a short list:-(

I think there's some logic error in the place where I commented a few
lines in localechooser script.

Thius bug actually shows that this part of d-i is a bit messy. The
chole mess comes from the choice of not showing the short list for
languages which have only one country. This is somewhat needed,
though, as using a short list for ALL languages would add en extra
load on localechooser templates.

Buggerwe have very contradictory needs all around here.

Bug#315631: ftp.debian.org: please remove kile-i18n source package

2005-06-24 Thread Ben Burton
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

As of version 1:1.8.1-1, the binary kile-i18n package is now built from
the kile sources. The old kile-i18n source package is now obsolete.

Could you please remove the kile-i18n source package from unstable?
Note that the kile-i18n binary package still exists (now built from the
kile sources), so if it's possible to keep kile-i18n in the overrides
file it would be appreciated.

Thanks - Ben.

Hi,

Please remove the btools source package (with binary packages
libbtools-java and libbtools-java-doc) from unstable/testing. Note that
these packages are in contrib, not main.

They were useful when written, but I expect their time has passed and
better libraries are now available with similar functionality.

There are no longer any packages in the archive that depend on any of

Bug#170773: (fwd) [max-appolo@mail.ru: CWEB Emacs mode]

2005-06-24 Thread Thomas Esser
I just plan not to add the new file to the source tree. The
existing files which are part of the original distribution can
  stay.
As far as I understood the submitter, that file is not new, but
 would be an replacement.

That does not make a difference to me. I don't plan to add this it to
the source tree or update the existing file. That's part of the sources
that I take from the web2c maintainer. If you can convince *him* to make
the update, fine. Else, you have to distribute that file separately.

But, I am wondering what you would gain by distributing emacs lisp files
as part of some source package? That source package does not copy this
file into a runtime path, so users will not be able to make any use of it
(at least not without further action).

That's why I think that it makes much more sense that debian distributes
these files separately.

Thomas

move slang1 (on which util-linux depends) from base.

Version 2.0.4-1 is currently available at

It will be uploaded to the main archive as soon as uploading is possible
(ftp-master is being moved at the moment). ( The version dependency is
because 2.0.4-1 has a bugfix for a bug in slcurses.h that breaks
util-linux from building against 2.0.3, which is currently in the

Bug#315635: /usr/bin/gksuexec: broken interface to user list

2005-06-24 Thread Hans Ulrich Niedermann
Package: gksu
Version: 1.2.5-3
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/gksuexec

There are a number of interface issues with the user list in gksuexec:

1. The users in the list are ordered randomly.
(They probably are ordered in /etc/passwd or UID sequence, but
they look completely unordered to the user.)

2. The unordered list requires searching all the list to pick the user.
This is tedious and error prone.

3. There is no incremental search in the user list.

4. And to top it all off, even if I know the user I want to run the
program as in advance, I cannot just type in that user name and
thus work around the unusable user list.

I suggest these changes:

1. Sort user names alphabetically to make looking for a specific name
   easier.

2. Add incremental search.
I have is a standard way to do this, which is used in lots of
   different programs.

3. Make it possible to just enter a username, bypassing the user list.
You can still choose not to accept user names which do not exist.

Bug#315416: gnat: Incorrect upper/lower case handling in Ada.Text_IO.Enumeration_IO

I tried with your UTF-8 files and with the following command line:

 gnatmake -O2 -gnatiw -gnatW8 test_315416.adb

I don't use UTF-8 (it is a horrible encoding and the
harmonization rules are even worse than the encoding
itself). I just ran the source code and the output through
`iconv` for you. The reference version is of course the
ISO-8859-1 encoded source code.

The results are a little surprising.

3.15p-12 and 4.0.0-2 both crash because of #312621 (aka PR19519).

Since I don't use UTF-8 that's not my problem.

Bug#285934: [fetchmail-devel] fetchmail bug - patch

can you please include the following patch:

The patch and bug report are bogus. GCC 4/i386 compiles vanilla
fetchmail 6.2.5 as well as the current SVN fetchmail without problems,
and neither has such a nested SMTP_auth_error implementation.

Please remove from Debian all patches that break smtp.c.

Bug#315076: Bug#315074: ipkungfu: Renders system inaccessible

2005-06-24 Thread Nigel Jones
Bug#315074:
Simplest fix: add /etc/default/ipkungfu with ENABLED=false, source the
file in the init script and only start if ENABLED is not false.

After the last upload I have been planning to create something like
this, as well as using debconf for default values which would indeed
stop this from happening

Bug#315076
 Side note:

 if [ -f /etc/ipkungfu ] ; then
 . /etc/ipkungfu
 fi
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# file /etc/ipkungfu
 /etc/ipkungfu: directory
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~#
Should be fixed as well in next version.

General:
I'll try and get Bug#315074 fixed in the next few hours (sidenotes: 1:
hopefully... 2: of course it won't be on the archives right away).

If Bug#315076 is not fixed in the same build, then it will go in the
next build that will have debconf (hopefully).

The debconf work I was planning can go up in a seperate upload in
about 2 weeks time (if not beforehand).

2005-06-24 Thread Pete de Zwart
Package: sqwebmail
Version: 0.47-4

sqwebmail doesn't parse out any extra elements from the comments field after

It should only read up to before the first comma, then ignore the rest.

For example, this is my entry in /etc/passwd:

Thus, sqwebmail believed my name is:

Where as, it should only use:

Having to change the From: field for each e-mail is a bit of a pain.

Bug#170773: CWEB Emacs mode

2005-06-24 Thread Olaf Weber
Frank Küster writes:

 Hi Olaf,
in the Debian BTS we have a suggestion to update cweb.el in
web2c/cwebdir/ to a version that works better with current emacsen. The
 file can be found at
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi/cwebm.el?bug=170773msg=3att=1,
the m in the name should be dropped to replace Knuth's original cweb.el,
if the license allows this (I hope it does).

I'm not sure it does (see web2c/cwebdir/README). However, the _only_
reason that this file is in the web2c source tree is that is is part
of the original cweb source which I unpacked there. (In other words:
historical reasons.) The contents of this directory are pretty inert,
note for example that when building/installing web2c the makefile in
web2c/cwebdir doesn't get used at all, and even the manual page we
install doesn't come from there, but from web2c/man/cweb.man instead.

Thomas and I discussed whether c++lib.w should be installed, and my
take is that it should just be shipped in texmf-dist/cweb instead of
installing from the web2c source tree. (And I would not be surprised
if it is in dire need of updating, given that C++ has changed a bit
over the years.)

My position of cweb.el is similar: the copy in the web2c source tracks
the original source. It is not going to be automatically installed,
among other reasons because it is quite likely that you need a much
newer version than what is there.

A shared memory cache through an mmap'ed file. It's core is written in C for

access the cache at the same time. It uses a basic LRU algorithm to keep the
most used entries in the cache.

It's used for example in Catalyst::Plugin::Session::FastMmap which is part of

Bug#311357: via-rhine still not working...

2005-06-24 Thread Mark Ferguson
Hi

I tried your latest patched 2.6.8 and 2.6.11 kernels on my home firewall.

(The home firewall was working fine with a 2.4 kernel last week, and
had been for many months. The hard disk failed, so I thought I would
test the new distribution and 2.6 kernel with the new disk. Apart from
a replacement hda, the hardware is exactly the same. I am now *using*
raid !)

The via rhine driver in the new kernel is much better in that it actually
appears as an eth* device, and it works by itself. As previously
reported, this was not the case with the 2.6 kernel in the 3.1r0
distribution.

BUT

When you have the via-rhine sharing an interrupt with another netcard
as I have, it dies horribly. The via-rhine is my private network,
and the dec tulip the internet.

Both kernels fail, here I am running your 2.6.11

Bug#315643: openoffice.org2 does not build in amd64

2005-06-24 Thread Luis Matos

Package: openoffice.org2
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

openoffice.org fails to compile under adm64 debian port running sarge
with build-dependencies from unstable.

the same error can be found in amd64 buildd archive:
http://amd64.ftbfs.de/fetch.php?pkg=openoffice.org2ver=1.9.108-1arch=amd64stamp=1119228703file=logas=raw

it states:
No Dependencies
-
dmake: Error -- `./unxlngx4.pro/misc/neon-0.24.7.unpack' not found, and
can't be made
'---* tg_merge.mk *---'

I think ooo team could make an effort to compile ooo2 into amd64 because
we can't make use of this tool natively and it would be very important
to have it (for me at least ... and for many people).

best regards.

Thanks in advance
Luis Matos

Do you happen to have any idea though how large this problem is? After
all, I don't think debsign allows creation of doubly-signed .changes.

It's not large, but when it happens, there is no feedback on what
happened, as the upload queue processor does *not* fail on it but
reports success back, and then you get silence.

I installed postgresql-8.0 and my php pages which use local unix sockets to

Thanks,

Bug#268337: network-admin slightly less crappy now

2005-06-24 Thread Thomas Hood
network-admin does not do as much damage as it did before, but
unfortunately it still does some damage.

I have a simple laptop system: just the lo interface and a Wi-Fi
interface. I have a number of logical interfaces defined
in /etc/network/interfaces for the different networks that I connect to
and I can configure my Wi-Fi interface as these logical interfaces using
ifup. I also have several ppp logical interfaces defined but I don't
often use ppp interfaces any more.

# ifconfig |grep '^[^ ]'
loLink encap:Local Loopback
wlanp_0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:07:0E:B3:89:8E

# ifconfig -a |grep '^[^ ]'
loLink encap:Local Loopback
wifi0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr
00-07-0E-B3-89-8E-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
wlanp_0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:07:0E:B3:89:8E

# cat /etc/network/run/ifstate
lo=lo
wlanp_0=decis-wireless-dhcp

# grep ^iface /etc/network/interfaces
iface lo inet loopback
iface decis-wired-static inet dhcp
iface decis-wireless-dhcp inet dhcp
iface ppp-Xircom-Mtl inet ppp
iface ppp-LT-DenHaag inet ppp

gnome-system-tools's network-admin module can't handle this simple case.

First I back up my networking configuration files because I know from
experience what n-a likes to do to them. Then I start up n-a and enter
the root password. For ten seconds I look at an entirely greyed-out
window and begin to wonder whether or not it has frozen. Finally a list
appears in the Connections pane:

Modem connection
The interface ppp0 is not configured

Wireless connection
The interface wifi0 is not configured

It is true that the ppp0 interface is not configured. It doesn't exist
on my system right now because I am not running a pppd. I decide not to
investigate network-admin's handling of PPP interfaces right now.

It is more or less true that wifi0 is not configured. I have a Cisco
Aironet card driven by the airo and airo-cs drivers. These drivers
create two network interfaces when they load: wifi0 and eth0. I
have configured ifrename to change the latter name to wlanp_0. The
latter is configured; the former isn't really a different device. I
don't really mind the fact that wifi0 appears in the listing, but where
is wlanp_0?

OK, next I try something simple and easy -- I try changing the hostname
from 'thanatos' to 'thanatos1'. I answer affirmatively the question
whether or not I really want to do this. The program freezes for a
while and then, unexpectedly, exits. Has it crashed, or what? Let's
look at my configuration files.

#$*%$! The program has made a mess of my very simple and
straightforward /etc/hosts file! My existing hostname was on the
127.0.1.1 line; g-s-t has put the new hostname in as an alias for
localhost.localdomain instead. It has left the old hostname in on the
127.0.1.1 line. And most bizarrely of all it has _added_ the _old_
hostname in as an alias for localhost.localdomain!

It has replaced some tabs with spaces, unnecessarily.

It has stupidly duplicated host names on a group of lines beginning with
fe00::0.

It has deleted another group of lines for IPv6.

I see that the program has also touched /etc/host.conf. It didn't occur
to me to back _that_ file up. Why is network-admin touching that file?
It shouldn't.

I restore my configuration files from backups.

My next test is to see what happens when I change the DNS configuration
via network-admin. I have resolvconf installed, so /etc/resolv.conf is
a symlink to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf. I delete a nameserver
address and add an item to the search list and click OK. The program
pauses and then exits, and I am left again with a mangled

Bug#268343: No improvement

2005-06-24 Thread Thomas Hood
network-admin 1.2.0-2 still does not understand the search option.

Before:

# cat resolv.conf
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 130.161.180.1
nameserver 130.161.180.65
search decis.nl

I start network-admin. It does not show 'decis.nl' as the domain name.
It is totally unclear whether entering something in network-admin's
General|Domain name field will change the NIS domain name
in /proc/sys/kernel/domainname or the DNS domain name specified
in /etc/resolv.conf.

I enter 'yyy.org' in the Domain name field and click OK. The program
pauses and then exits.

After:

# cat resolv.conf
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 130.161.180.1
nameserver 130.161.180.65
search decis.nl
domain yyy.org

OK, so now I know that General|Domain name changes the DNS domain
name, not the NIS domain name. However it still does so without
understanding that there was already a search option in resolv.conf
which has now been rendered inoperative.

Severity: normal

Hi,

libslang2 (2.0.3) is now in the Debian archive. I am working to
transition all packages from slang1 to slang2, as slang is a required
package in Debian and it is undesirable to require both versions be
present on all Debian/Etch systems. (See
http://wiki.debian.net/?action=editpage_name=EtchSlang2upgrade for ths
current status)

It would be appreciated if you could port fte to slang2 quickly.

The directory i486-linux changed to i486-linux-gnu

breaks compiling java stuff with jni code.

Investigating further, I think the problem is that my gnat and libgnat

So I think that ghdl has a = version dependency on gnat that should be

This is around where you have to set the PATH (right after $CHROOTEXEC).
If you set the PATH before $CHROOTEXEC (e.g. when the pbuilderrc is
sourced like below), it'll just get clobbered by $CHROOTEXEC...

 Now I don't grok you.
$CHROOTEXEC is just 'chroot' which shouldn't have any effect on
the environmental variable which the shell is holding.

Err, yeah, sorry. It's not CHROOTEXEC, it's PBUILDERROOTCMD (sudo, su,
etc.) that munges the PATH.

Removing this PATH over to the pbuilderrc config file which
is sourced at the top of pbuilder-buildpackage should fix what you're
 experiencing.

 ... but that's not happening.

 Hmm...

Ah, it's because the pbuilderrc is sourced in pdebuild (via
pbuilder-checkparams) *before* the ${PBUILDERROOTCMD} pbuilder stuff...
It should work if you set PBUILDERROOTCMD= run the whole
/usr/bin/pdebuild as root.

Given that this bug is specific to amd64, it is not actually a
release-critical bug for Debian (yet); there's no sense in letting this bug
block glibc updates from reaching testing when amd64 isn't even in the
archive...

Does http://sources.redhat.com/ml/libc-hacker/2004-02/msg00022.html suggest
that the fix is already included in glibc 2.3.5?

Bug#315649: manedit: looks in /usr/man

2005-06-24 Thread Justin B Rye
Package: manedit
Version: 0.6.1-1
Severity: minor

Even though manedit.1.gz refers to:

 /usr/share/man
Global manual pages directory (used by newer UNIX
   distributions).

manedit's compiled-in Global value is /usr/man, missing all the
Debian man pages. That's an obvious FHS-compliance bug, though
fortunately users can work around it in their ~/.maneditrc.

A grep through the source tarball shows:

Bug#315650: exim4-daemon-heavy: TLS error (gnutls_handshake) - 4.51-1; was OK in 4.50-8

2005-06-24 Thread Calum Mackay
Package: exim4-daemon-heavy
Version: 4.51-1
Severity: important

The problem here is some, but not all, incoming TLS emails getting
deferred:

2005-06-24 11:55:01 TLS error on connection from
host81-136-150-217.in-addr.btopenworld.com (thegerhards.com)
[81.136.150.217]:30228 (gnutls_handshake): A TLS fatal alert has been
received.

This coincided with (a few hours after) upgrading from 4.50-8 to 4.51-1.
I can reliably reproduce the problem on 4.51-1, within an hour or two.
With the previous 4.50-8 I have never seen the problem. Switching back and
forth between the versions reliably reproduces the problem (on 4.51-1).

For this reason, I believe this bug may be different than the two
existing, older, bugs #285371 #297174, which affected previous releases
(where I never saw a problem).

I would note that not all incoming TLS traffic seems to be affected.
Somes sites' TLS traffic is deferred, others accepted. Outgoing TLS
traffic seems to be fine.

Running -d+all didn't provide any further information, unfortunately.

One other data point: 4.50-8 seems to reliably recreate the gnutls-params
file if it is removed, whereas I've noted that with 4.51-1 the file is
never created. Of course, this may just be a symptom of the problem.

Please let me know if I can provide more information.

cheers,
calum.

Hmm, I started out with sarge testing on my arm systems, so I never did
a woody to sarge upgrade.

I know arm did have a problem testing this given how few systems you
could actually install woody on with an official debian kernel. Since
very few people had one of those systems around, testing the upgrade has
not been easy.

I do seem to recall there is something in the sarge release notes (or
was supposed to be) about how to upgrade arm from woody to sarge involving
getting a new kernel first, since something important changed. I
remember that happens for sure on mips, and also happens on true i386
machines (since sarge's libc requried 486 instructions, so the new
kernel emulates the few missing instructions on i386 systems).

Bug#315656: exim4-config: Split config files with names containing full stops silently ignored

2005-06-24 Thread Ewan Mellor
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.50-8
Severity: normal

I created a file named

/etc/exim4/conf.d/rewrite/20_exim4-config_rewrite-example.com

expecting the configuration to be picked up by update-exim4.conf. However,
this file was silently ignored. update-exim4.conf performs sanitisation
inside run-parts:

for F in $(ls $1); do
if expr $F : '[[:alnum:]_-]\+$' /dev/null 21; then
if [ -f $1/$F ] ; then
if [ -f $1/${F}.rul ] ; then
echo $1/${F}.rul
else
echo $1/$F

This ignores any files not matching [[:alnum:]_-]+.

I presume the check is there for a good reason, but it is certainly too
strict. Having full stops in filenames is not unusual!

Secondly, no warning was issued when this file was ignored. There is
even an option to update-exim4.conf:

-v|--verbose - Enable verbose mode, tell about ignored files

but even with this option on, the ignored file was not mentioned.

Either the file name check needs to be removed completely, or the
sanitation needs to be relaxed to allow all but the most dangerous
characters, and in that latter case there needs to be a warning issued
when a file is ignored and the -v flag is on.

Cheers,

Ewan Mellor.

Thanks, but that's not accurate, since --reply=no has no effect
if it *precedes* a -i (aka --reply=query) option, and if it
follows -i, then the -i is disregarded.

What I was trying to say is that given a `mv' command that would
prompt even though it specified neither -i (--interactive)
or the equivalent --reply=query, rerunning that command with
--reply=no makes mv suppress the prompt and act as if it had
been issued and declined.

I too would like improved wording.

You have a BASHism in debian/rules:

mkdir -p build-serial/{src,userial/ds9097,userial/ds9097u}

The {} expansion is not POSIX standard. For example, if dash were the
default shell for the build environment, this would FTBFS. A simple
test to demonstrate this is to run echo {blee, blah} in a BASH and in
dash. BASH will output blee blah, and dash will output {blee, blah}.

Ack. I'll wait for Brian in case he releases a new digitemp so I upload only
once. If not I'll upload a new version with this fix.

 Thanks for reporting :)

I'll fix that this weekend too.

Brian

Bug#315660: mount: Wrong hash generation for the loopback device.

2005-06-24 Thread YAEGASHI Takeshi
Package: mount
Version: 2.12p-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

I found a bug in the loopback device routine in lomount.c

xgetpass() can return more than 128 bytes when it reads a passphrase
from fd specified by -p. With such a long passphrase, current
lomount.c can generate different hash value every time, so user can
never correctly encrypt or decrypt files.

Following patch will fix the problem.

about the docs of the beamer package.

We should them further tell to put a soft link from
  /usr/share/doc/latex-beamer to /usr/share/doc/texmf/latex to make
sure the installed doc is seen by texdoc(tk).

Will you submit a bug report?

It would have to conflict with all versions between
2.99.7.20041225-beta-1 and the tetex-doc version, which doesn't
contain the beamer doc any more. How do I implement that?

The --help output already mentions that -i and -f each have --reply=...

Nonetheless, the explanation I added is needed to explain what
--reply=no actually does, since people often don't know that mv
prompts sometimes even when -i (or equiv) has not been specified.

--reply=no has an effect only when mv
would prompt without -i or equivalent, i.e.,
when a destination file exists and is not
writable, standard input is a terminal, and
no -f (or equivalent) option is specified

That wording is a bit awkward. How about this instead:
Note that --reply=no has an effect only when mv would prompt, either when
-i is present, or for the combination of a destination file exists, is not
writable, standard input is a terminal, and -f (or equivalent) is not present

Thanks, but that's not accurate, since --reply=no has no effect
if it *precedes* a -i (aka --reply=query) option, and if it
follows -i, then the -i is disregarded.

What I was trying to say is that given a `mv' command that would
prompt even though it specified neither -i (--interactive)
or the equivalent --reply=query, rerunning that command with
--reply=no makes mv suppress the prompt and act as if it had
been issued and declined.

I too would like improved wording.

Is this just the current working or the expected behaviour?

In my opinion the --reply=no would make much more sense if i could use it
in scripts to avoid overwriting files.

To quote the current manpage:

   --reply={yes,no,query}
specify how to handle the prompt about an existing
  destination file

This would apply to any existing file, not just for not writable,
stdin or a terminal. So the correct bugfix should not a new manpage
chapter but instead a improved behaviour of 'mv'.

Kind regards

Upgrading from the older 4.0.3 (or 4.0.6) to the recently uploaded

where. Sorry.

1. XFCE4 lost my desktop backdrop. I was using a solid colour.

2. The upgrade changed my window manager theme. Actually it was a

it's called Agualemon (note the caps).

3. XFCE4 set a splash screen. I had no splash screen.

list. I believe it was GNOME.

Please fix this for the sarge-etch folks, and add give me my icon

 To quote the current manpage:

--reply={yes,no,query}

IMHO, the above is not inaccurate -- but it's obviously not clear,
either :) It says how to handle a *prompt* about an existing

appears only under the conditions mentioned in my addition.
It's important to realize that if you specify `-i --reply=no',
it's equivalent to just `--reply=no', hence there will be no
prompts due to the `-i' option. Yes, I admit it is rather twisted.

This would apply to any existing file, not just for not writable,

IMHO, you're asking for a new feature (don't overwrite any existing
file and don't prompt about it either).

Ok, I can't ask you to support upgrades much better than upstream does.
In turn, upstream should be abused (by which I mean, a bug filed) for
not providing such a mechanism.

I don't think we can magically migrate all users' settings for them.

There's no magic involved. I know that some of my settings weren't lost,
and the ones that were are special cases. I'm not asking for a perfect
migration scheme, merely best effort.

Which icon theme were you using before?

I'm pretty sure it was labelled GNOME. I set it years ago and never
looked at it again. I don't really remember.

Hey blarson,
The bug you submitted, 312947, I believe to be upstream in perl. (bod

Try and build it again. It should work fine now.

Why not just say that -i/-f/--reply override each other and the last one
 wins?

The --help output already mentions that -i and -f each have --reply=...
equivalents, but I'd welcome a specific addition to that effect.

That the options are overriding each other is not immediately clear from a
cursory look, since the --reply equivalences are parenthetical remarks
that are easy to read over. How about writing it like this:

-f, --force, --reply=yes do not prompt before overwriting
  -i, --interactive, --reply=query
   prompt before overwrite
--reply={yes,no,query} specify how to handle the prompt about an
 existing destination file

This part is the problem.

If i understand Jim correct, its all not about an existing destination
file (mv will just overwrite it), but about how to handle the case, if the
destination file is not writable:

This is, what i mentioned before: this parameter does not really what
someone would expect.

Bug#301012: Error: client-error-not-authorized when adding a printer

I had the same problem with an unstable/experimental system. The problem was,
that no /etc/cups/passwd.md5 existed. This error also appeared in the error
log.
I could solve this problem through typing lppasswd -a. After this everything
worked.
I think this should be done in some automatic way.

I hope i could help

Bug#313390: quanta crashes by pressing the preview button

2005-06-24 Thread Ben Burton

retitle 313390 quanta crashes when previewing frame sets

Thanks for that.

Well, if the worst that happens is that quanta crashes when using HTML
*frames*, then this doesn't sound grave to me -- indeed, it seems quite
usable as long as you avoid certain ugly and deprecated HTML tags?

No objection from me (though as of KDE 3.4 I'm passing this package on
to debian-qt-kde, though I suspect they won't mind either).

Mm? The panel has two choices (bottom and right) while the taskbar
hastwo choices (top and bottom). It is plainly unreasonable to tell me
that I can't put them both at the bottom.

What are the changes in upstream that you refer to?

As an aside, my wishlist-utopic fix for this would be a tasklist panel
applet and that the panel would horizontally fill the bottom of the screen.

Bug#315667: stack smash gcc

2005-06-24 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: gcc-3.3
Severity: normal
Tags: security

When compilation of the included C program is attempted with gcc
-std=gnu99 usnoquery.c.FREEZE.c, the compilation stalls, apparently
indefinitely.

Tagged security because it supposedly involves a stack smash:

valgrind doesn't report any invalid accesses, nor does MALLOC_CHECK_
reveal anything useful.

(Note that this code fragment is the result of deleting lots of other
code, in an attempt to discover the minimal test case. Right now, the
code doesn't make much sense, and I know that.)
