Bug#317256: tetex-bin: \pdfadjustspacing and \pdfprotrudechars no longer working
Package: tetex-bin Version: 2.0.2-30 Severity: normal When I was using Debian Woody, I would put \pdfadjustspacing=2 \pdfprotrudechars=2 in the preambles of my letters and other documents, and this would make a positive difference to the spacing when typeset with pdflatex. After the upgrade to Sarge, the presence or absence of this setting appears to make no difference whatsoever to the printed output. Certainly no characters are protruded (verified by loading the output into The Gimp and drawing a straight line down the right-hand margin) and the spacing does not appear to be adjusted, and pdflatex produces output that is identical to latex (i.e. none of pdflatex's adjustments have taken effect). I am using the same documents as I used before, and I have not otherwise tampered with the tetex distribution. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.23 Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_GB) Versions of packages tetex-bin depends on: ii debconf1.4.30.13 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils2.8.4 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii dpkg 1.10.28 Package maintenance system for Deb ii ed 0.2-20The classic unix line editor ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libgcc11:3.4.3-13GCC support library ii libice64.3.0.dfsg.1-14 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libkpathsea3 2.0.2-30 path search library for teTeX (run ii libpaper1 1.1.14-3 Library for handling paper charact ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-1PNG library - runtime ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-13The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libt1-55.0.2-3 Type 1 font rasterizer library - r ii libwww05.4.0-9 The W3C WWW library ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System protocol client li ii libxaw74.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Athena widget set library ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxmu64.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Window System miscellaneous util ii libxt6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Toolkit Intrinsics ii mime-support 3.28-1MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap ii perl 5.8.4-8 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii sed4.1.2-8 The GNU sed stream editor ii tetex-base 2.0.2c-8 Basic library files of teTeX ii ucf1.17 Update Configuration File: preserv ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4.sarge.1 compression library - runtime -- debconf information: tetex-bin/updmap-failed: tetex-bin/hyphen: french[=patois], ngerman[=naustrian-neue_Rechtschreibung] tetex-bin/oldcfg: true tetex-bin/upd_map: true * tetex-bin/cnf_name: tetex-bin/fmtutil: true tetex-bin/use_debconf: false tetex-bin/fmtutil-failed: tetex-bin/groupname: users tetex-bin/userperm: false tetex-bin/groupperm: true tetex-bin/lsr-perms: true -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#317258: Megaraid driver lost PCI ID mapping for NetRAID 1M 2M
Package: kernel-source-2.6.11 Version: 2.6.11-7 I have an HP Netserver loaded with Debian Etch and configured with an HP NetRAID 2M raid card. Since the split of the PCI IDs between the megaraid (legacy) and megaraid_mbox (new) drivers, this card is no longer recognized by either driver. The split was such that AMI Megaraid generations 1 2 stayed in megaraid and generation 3 went to megaraid_mbox. Unfortunately, NetRAID 1M 2M use a generation 3 PCI ID but isn't within the PCI ID table of the megaraid_mbox driver. From googling the web, it would appear that the NetRAID 1M 2M will never be supported by the new driver. So I'm submitting two very small patches that add back support specifically for these two cards into the megaraid driver's pci id table. This has been tested as working with my setup which uses a NetRAID 2m using a 2.02 firmware. I note that megaraid is a very well tested driver in general with this card and still includes code specifically to work around lack of 64 bit addressing with older NetRAID 1M/2M 1.07/1.08/1.09 firmware. As such, keeping these cards associated with the megaraid (legacy) driver seems like the best idea. Keep up the good work. However, if when launching gv you do: cd /tmp gv flyer.pdf then everything works fine. Incidentally the bug does NOT take effect if you do cd / gv tmp/flyer.pdf so it must be the leading / that is causing a problem. I have tested this on different PDFs and it is consistent. On Wed, Jul 06, 2005 at 11:12:33PM -0700, Kevin Carson wrote: Package: kernel-source-2.6.11 Version: 2.6.11-7 I have an HP Netserver loaded with Debian Etch and configured with an HP NetRAID 2M raid card. Thanks. To be quite honest there was a bit of guess work in making the orignal split as far as I understand, so patches like this are well appreciated. I will chase up what is happening with the Megaraid driver in the forthcoming 2.4.12 packages, as I am not sure there will be another spin of 2.6.11. Fabione, I'm CCing you on this as I got the patch from you in the first place, and you might want this update. Keep up the good work. The linux-sound-base package is now in unstable. It would be quite appropriate for all k-i packages containing both OSS and ALSA modules (viz., all current k-i 2.6 packages) to Depend on linux-sound-base; it would also be appropriate for all other k-i packages to at least Suggest linux-sound-base. This package gives the admin the ability (via dpkg-reconfigure) to disable either OSS or ALSA so that one does not conflict with the other. If the admin chooses OSS then nothing further is required. If the admin chooses ALSA then the alsa packages should also be installed. ALSA is the preferred sound system for k-i 2.6, so I think it appropriate for the k-i 2.6 packages to Recommend or Suggest alsa, a virtual package currently Provided by alsa-base (but possibly a metapackage in the future). -- Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Subject: debootstrap: downgrading 'filetutils' to Sarge version fixes it for me Followup-For: Bug #314858 Package: debootstrap Version: 0.3.1.4 Having made some more tests, I noticed that I can use the unstable versions of 'debootstrap' and 'pbuilder' just fine, as long as the version of 'findutils' (which provides 'xargs') is the one from Sarge. Upgrading 'findutils' to the one currently in Etch produces the afforementioned xargs: rm: Argument list too long error. Bug#317165: localechooser: behaves badly if user selected different default locale
6 липня 2005 о 23:17 +0200 Christian Perrier написав(-ла): Package: localechooser Severity: normal Tags: l10n d-i I tried to install system in Ukrainian language but chose locale uk_UA.UTF-8 to be default on new system. After reboot to second stage console was setup to use UTF-8 as encoding (locale was uk_UA.UTF-8 as expected). Then termwrap probably tried to start jfbterm and failed (it was not present, termwrap only loaded framebuffer module). After that base-config was run with no cyrillic letters at all. Well, as you mention a failure to load jfbterm, I suspect the bug not being in localechooser (at least in forst approximation) but rather in jfbterm failing to load. jfbterm is failing to load because it is not present, it is not required for Ukrainian install, so localechooser did not install it. Problem with localechooser it that it sets up console to use KOI8-U instead of UTF-8. There is also problem with termwrap that it tries to use jfbterm for Ukrainian install. Have you (or kmuto) tried a Japanese install with all defaults? I haven't but I think that install with both UTF-8 and EUC-JP locales will be successful for Japanese. Anyway, such breakage is not really surprising : up to now, everything in d-i assumed that, for a given language, only one encoding is used...which now becomes untrue as you clearly show here. I suspect that choosing fr_FR.UTF-8 would lead to some display problem in 2d stage. That will be minor problems compared to Ukrainian: you at least will be able to read some text and not only words Debian :) -- Eugeniy Meshcheryakov Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University Information and Computing Centre http://icc.univ.kiev.ua signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#317241: SSH claims to be sshd to PAM, but ships /etc/pam.d/sshd
On Thu, Jul 07, 2005 at 03:07:10PM +1000, Paul TBBle Hampson wrote: The problem here is: Jul 6 18:58:39 helium PAM-warn[28455]: function=[pam_sm_acct_mgmt] service=[sshd] terminal=[ssh] user=[portfwd] ruser=[unknown] rhost=[161.80.249.101] openssh-server ships /etc/pam.d/ssh, but this above line indicates it is looking for /etc/pam.d/sshd, and then fall back to /etc/pam.d/other. I presume the submitter has changed /etc/pam.d/other to reject user logins, while in the default case this change will simply cause things like pam_env, pam_motd, pam_limits and pam_mail to be not-processed. (I believe this change also caused 317088, but cannot be certain from the report itself.) Thanks for that. I don't understand how this could possibly have happened, though; I certainly didn't touch anything related to PAM in 1:4.1p1-5, and the build log looks perfectly fine. I've also just upgraded some other machines to 1:4.1p1-5 and they're working fine too. You're certain it was working fine with 1:4.1p1-4? I might fix this by fixing #255870/#261363, but I would really like to understand the real problem first. Could I get an 'strace -f -s 1024' of the server while you try to connect to it? Feel free to send it to me privately and/or audit it to remove any sensitive data like host keys and shadow password data first. Richard A Nelson wrote: By the way, why does the client package depend upon the server (and at the same level)? Seems rather pointless, doesn't it ? Bug#317271: request-tracker3.4: Patch to work with libapache2-mod-perl2 = 2.0
Package: request-tracker3.4 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hello, I managed to get request-tracker3.4 3.4.2 working with libapache2-mod-perl2 2.0.1. I attach a patch describing the changes I have done to the source itself. I have not fixed the debian control file. The patch does these three things: 1) In webmux.pl, replaces require Apache2; require Apache::Request with require Apache2::Request (and the same for Apache::compat). 2) In lib/RT/Interface/Web/Handler.pm renames the wrappers for Apache::request and calls to Apache-server with their respective new names. 3) Brings back the apache2-modperl2.conf, this time without PerlModule Apache2 Apache::compat statement. webmux.pl does the right thing, so this is not needed here. For updating control files please note, that the patch replaces the statements, so it now requires libapache2-mod-perl2 = 2.0 and libhtml-mason-perl = 1.29, which is the first updated version. Please, forward upstream too. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686-smp Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages request-tracker3.4 depends on: ii apache2 2.0.54-4next generation, scalable, extenda ii apache2-mpm-worker [apache2] 2.0.54-4high speed threaded model for Apac ii exim44.50-8 metapackage to ease exim MTA (v4) ii exim4-daemon-light [mail-tra 4.50-8 lightweight exim MTA (v4) daemon ii libapache-dbi-perl 0.94-2 Connect apache server to database ii libapache-mod-perl 1.29.0.3-6 integration of perl with the Apach ii libapache-request-perl 1.1-0.1 Generic Apache Request Library ii libapache-session-perl 1.60-2 Perl modules for keeping persisten ii libcache-cache-perl 1.04-1 Managed caches of persistent infor ii libcache-simple-timedexpiry- 0.21-1 Perl module to cache and expire ke ii libclass-returnvalue-perl0.52-1 A return-value object that lets yo ii libdbd-pg-perl 1.42-1 a PostgreSQL interface for Perl 5 ii libdbi-perl 1.48-1 Perl5 database interface by Tim Bu ii libdbix-searchbuilder-perl 1.27-1 Encapsulate SQL queries and rows i ii libexception-class-perl 1.20-1 a module that allows you to declar ii libfcgi-perl 0.67-1 FastCGI Perl module ii libfreezethaw-perl 0.43-2 converting Perl structures to stri ii libhtml-mason-perl 1:1.29.02-1 HTML::Mason Perl module ii libhtml-parser-perl 3.45-2 A collection of modules that parse ii libhtml-scrubber-perl0.08-2 Perl extension for scrubbing/sanit ii liblocale-maketext-fuzzy-per 0.02-1 Maketext from already interpolated ii liblocale-maketext-lexicon-p 0.49-1 Lexicon-handling backends for Loc ii liblog-dispatch-perl 2.10-1 Dispatches messages to multiple Lo ii libmailtools-perl1.62-1 Manipulate email in perl programs ii libmime-perl 5.417-1 Perl5 modules for MIME-compliant m ii libmldbm-perl2.01-1 Store multidimensional hash struct ii libmodule-versions-report-pe 1.02-2 Report versions of all modules in ii libparams-validate-perl 0.76-1 validate parameters to Perl method ii libregexp-common-perl2.120-1 Provide commonly requested regular ii libterm-readkey-perl 2.21-1.3A perl module for simple terminal ii libtest-inline-perl 0.16-1 Embed tests and code examples in P ii libtext-autoformat-perl 1.12-3 Perl module for automatic text wra ii libtext-quoted-perl 1.8-2 Extract the structure of a quoted ii libtext-template-perl1.44-1.1Text::Template perl module ii libtext-wrapper-perl 1.000-2 Simple word wrapping routine ii libtime-modules-perl 2003.1126-2 Various Perl modules for time/date ii libtree-simple-perl 1.15-1 A simple tree object ii libxml-rss-perl 1.05-1 Perl module for managing RSS (RDF ii libxml-simple-perl 2.14-1 Perl module for reading and writin ii perl 5.8.7-3 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii rt3.4-clients3.4.2-4 Mail gateway and command-line inte ii sysklogd [system-log-daemon] 1.4.1-17System Logging Daemon Versions of packages request-tracker3.4 recommends: ii postgresql 7.4.7-6sarge1 object-relational SQL database man -- no debconf information diff -Naur request-tracker3.4-3.4.2.orig/bin/webmux.pl.in request-tracker3.4-3.4.2/bin/webmux.pl.in --- request-tracker3.4-3.4.2.orig/bin/webmux.pl.in 2005-07-07 10:57:30.442769120 +0200 +++

Bug#315978: [sparc64] can't net install on v210
Dave Love wrote: More info on this... The sparc list reports that tg3 is known not to work since it needs firmware which has been removed. In that case I think the driver should be removed and this should be documented, especially as it isn't clear the driver has failed with a 2.6 kernel. The tg3 driver works for any tg3 card which already contains usable firmware. This is many of them on i386, but I don't know about sparc. Removing the driver (which happened in Debian's 2.6.11 kernel BTW), is not the best approach. AFAIK this will be resolved in Debian's 2.6.12 kernel, since the firmware has been relicensed. -- see shy jo signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#317277: copyright-lists-upstream-authors-with-dh_make-boilerplate is overly nitpicky - please remove
Package: lintian Version: 1.23.9 Severity: wishlist The lintian test 'copyright-lists-upstream-authors-with-dh_make-boilerplate' is extremely nitpicky. It addresses the following problem: There is Upstream Author(s) in your copyright file. This was most likely a remnant from the dh_make template. There's either one upstream author, in which case you should remove the (s), or there are several upstream authors, in which case you should remove the ( and ). Come on, please. I hope you all agree that this test whines about something that's not important, the text is grammatically correct but only has two parentheses which might have been left out to save 2 bytes. I find it hard to believe that this test would enhance package quality judging by any significant standard. Useless tests, besides wasting people's time, have the danger of annoying people too much: when presented with too many complaints about irrelevant problems, you risk people not paying attention to Lintian's output anymore. Package: evolution Version: 2.2.2-4 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After upgrading the system to this morning (7-Jul-2005) during which the system upgraded some GNOME libs (sorry, forgot which ones), Evo won't start any longer. Bug#317282: proftpd: no init script
severity 317282 normal tags 317282 + unreproducible tags 317282 + moreinfo thanks Please, do not presume your problem is a general one without verification. Of course it installs perfectly in a fresh install on sarge (just verified to be sure, but it's a quite macroscopic issue to be never pointed before, don't you think so?), as well as in upgrading from a previous one. Would you please purge and install it again, and post logging?
