Sorry, which one? Automatically use gcc-3.3, or default to gcc-4.0? Sorry for being unclear. If you build kernel-source-2.4.27 2.4.27-11 then it should use gcc-3.3 for the build, even if your default gcc is gcc-4.0. To be more specific, if you inspect the makefile you will see that it actually sets the compiler to be gcc-3.3, rather than gcc. Of course if you use a different Makefile, say to build out of tree modules, or force the compiler to something else, this system breaks down. I'm not sure there is a good solution to that problem. But unpacking the kernel-source tar ball and doing a build should work as long as you have gcc-3.3 installed, which is a recomendation of the package. Well, if it fails when building a module I will just go and bug the maintaner for that module source. ;-) Thats pretty much what I was thinking needs to happen. We talked about how, though his music may seem like mainstream or even oldies today, Hendrix was such a pioneer. He explored what electricity could do for the guitar like nobody before him. Famous musicians - many of his peers - marveled at what Hendrix created. Yet his career was a short, bright flame. How many people who have contributed to art, science and knowledge can say that a few years of their career brought them unparalleled success and recognition? I suppose John Nash's notion of an original idea really can have that much impact. Bug#319389: acidlab: ACID looks dead should get replaced by BASE
I does look as though BASE is a much better solution and apparently has corrected many of the issues with the licensing of the current ACID version causing problems. I'll begin working to get BASE packaged as soon as possible, but can't make any estimates at this time. I will be working to have it replace acidlab if at all possible; however, that may require extra testing to make the transitions smooth. I did get a chance to take a look at the demo the Snort booth had at LWE'05 last week and talk with one of the developers on the project. Regards, Jeremy Uwe A. P. Bug#324104: please split off non-essenstial stuff from xlibs-data to a separate package
Package: xlibs-data Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-5 Severity: wishlist xlibs-data contains some things which are essenstial for running most X programs, while other things in it tka up a lot of space, and are rarely used. The package takes up almost 7.5 MB of disk space, out of which 4 MB are cursors in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/ (only two or three default cursors should be in the main package, the rest in xlibs-data-extra for example), and half a meg of stuff in /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps/ and /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps/ which I don't think I ever use, while I use X (I use the ion3 window manager). libx11-6 package (which I need because GTK+ depends on it) desription states: libx11-6 depends on xlibs-data for locale data and the X error and keysym databases, and these are almost the only things I need from xlibs-data (+ two or three default cursors). So please leave only that in xlibs-data, which will make it's installed size about 40% of it's current installed size, and move the rest to a new package, for example xlibs-data-extra. Please don't tell me that 4 MB is nothing in the era of 200 GB hard drives - people want tu use flash disks as the only filesystem also in desktop computers, not just embedded (just because of their silentness, nothing else), and/or put a copy of the whole filesystem in RAM for speed, and then such a waste of diskpace matters. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i586) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-386 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: libsablevm1 Version: 1.11.3-1 Severity: serious [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# apt-get install libsablevm1 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Bug#322686: docbook-xsl: new version 1.69.1 available
Hi Mark, On Thu, Aug 18, 2005 at 08:29:01PM -0400, Mark Johnson wrote: Unfortunately, the website slide stuff included in the new docbook-xsl is only the stylesheets, and not the dtds (or schemas). In theory, the DTDs etc. would belong to the docbook-xml package. But that is an upstream choice. (We could merge stuff together on the Debian level, but that would be confusing.) I suppose I could package up the current docbook-xsl as is, and also package the current website slides packages. That way the users can decide which sets of website/slides stylesheets they want to use. This sounds most sensible. If any difficulties arise, I would leave the slides and website stylesheets out of docbook-xsl until things are settled upstream. Here is an example: // Interface for a Consumer struct Consumer { /// Consume an item virtual void consume(item) = 0; /// Consume a container of items virtual void consumeItems(items) { // Default implementation for (Items::iterator i = items.begin(); i != items.end(); i++) consume(*i); } }; // Interface for a Collection. Uses Consumer as a way to be populated. struct Collection : public Consumer { /// Retrieve an item virtual void getItem(item) = 0; } struct Storage : public Collection { void consume(item) { do something } void getItem(item) { do something } } Now, I'd like to redocument the consume and consumeItems methods in Collection, as I know more about their context and I want to show that their function is to insert items into the collection. Unfortunately, I found no way to do that to date. I don't understand much of this. Closing this bug because I don't think there's any merit in it, sorry. In what precentage of systems do you think are the extra cursor themes and pixmaps (which together take up 60% of this package installed size) actually used? 5% ? 1% ? In what precentage of systems do you think is the package xlibs-data installed? 80% ? 95% ? I estimate that in about 75% of systems where this package is installed, the 60% of this package, the 4.3 MB of bitmaps, pixmaps and cursor data are not used. So how can you justify including that in a package that anything which has something to do with X depends on? I don't think there is any merit in that. I am not angry that you don't want to fix this bug, because no developer is obliged to do anything, it'd get done when someone sometime would feel wanting to do this and supply a patch, maybe even me. But I am angry that you closed the wish, a wish that wouldn't do anybody any harm, the burden on packagers would be minimal, would save a considerable amount of space (packages are beeing split for smaller or similar space savings: bsdmainutils/bsdutils, gettext-base/gettext), and you closed it by a one-person decision, even without a futher discussion and/or waiting for other's opinion on debian-x or the BTS. -- Miernik _ xmpp:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___/___/ mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Protect Europe from a legal disaster. You'll thank me later. 1-206-350-5982 Leon Farrell I am back to work today and compared to yesterday 100 percent better. I came in yesterday feeling a little sick to my stomach but just put it off to sour stomach thinking nothing about it, I mean I have worked with worse. As the day progressed I noticed my head was hurting more and more, then the lights were getting brighter, at one point I must have looked like the hunchback of Notre dame. I had several of my counter parts coming over concerned about how I was feeling. Several of the folks I have worked with have learned the look on my face and knew what was happening. Now don't get me wrong I have worked through many a migraine and was going to work through this one. This migraine had a different idea though, this was going to be one of those that sideline me. I felt it welling up in my stomach and ran to the bathroom to worship the ole porcelain crown. I came back after a few minutes and a quick mouthwash back to the desk. My compadre ask what happened so I told her and I was promptly ordered home. After checking out with the bosses and making sure there would be no trouble for her to stay on my shift I left. I took much longer to get home then normal due to the fact that I stopped a few times to holler for Ralph! I walked into the house and straight to the bedroom where it was Dark and aid down when my stomach had settled down some I took my meds and was out for a little while. Now if you are one of the lucky ones that do not suffer from migraines the only thing I can think of to let you know the pain that one can feel from it is to take your little toe and close it in a vice till it is the equivalent of mashed taters. Folks having migraines at time lose all track of what they are doing, they have been known to put their heads through walls and more trying to get rid of the pain. While the best known cure on the market is a product called Imatrex, I am one of the few that are allergic to it. I have to use other measures and if I do not want to take narcotics like then I must suffer through it. One of the bad thinks is you get sensitive to light then any movement makes you nauseous, any noise sounds are magnified ten fold. All you want to do is get in a dark corner away from the world and hide. Now the next day when you wake up especially when you have had a rough one like last night you fell almost hung over, really groggy. I woke thought and felt much better (then I did yesterday) and yes hung over I came to work and had a fairly normal day here at the ole station. 3 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. * Klaus Ethgen [Sat, 20 Aug 2005 09:35:30 +0200]: Well, if the packagee do not include any binary and no doc files then this IS a grave bug. Sure, but it is not the case as demonstrated by my transcript. Your kdm package is obviously in state 'deinstall ok config-files'. I'm closing this bug. kdm was in state installed on my system. This strange state that no real files are in the package was the result of an upgrade several days ago. Now when I try to reinstall kdm by apt there are many unresolved dependencies. And a try to do this with dselect will deinstall kdm and give no way to install it. This is the best _sincere_ advice I can give to you: stop using unstable. Bug#323963: advi: segfault or fatal error when scaling display

Bug#323385: was setting charset to latin1 in .muttrc :/
retitle 323385 .muttrc setting latin1 in a UTF-8 terminal breaks. severity 323385 normal thanks Hello, Sorry for the disturbance, i was setting charset to latin1 in my muttrc, which was causing all those troubles. Still, let me describe the exact situation, and you will be able to decide wheter to close the bug report or not, but i will add the reason of the problem for completeness. ssh is not involved, i tried and reproduce this locally. i have set my whole system to fr_FR.UTF-8. i had the following in my muttrc : charset-hook us-ascii iso-8859-1# use latin1 for incorrectly encoded emails set charset=iso-8859-1# which charset the terminal uses set send_charset=iso-8859-1 # send emails with latin1 chars Which i believe was wrong in this case, don't remember why i added it, but i just recently migrated to UTF-8. when someone send me an email with a latin1 terminal, like : From: Jérôme Marant [EMAIL PROTECTED] Then i was obviously not seeing the utf-8 chars, which is understandable, but furthermore, mutt was truncating the From field after the first J, when doing a reply or something. I feel that this is a bug still, even if my encoding settings where fubar, mutt should be copying the line verbatim instead of truncating it. Ok, thanks for your resolution, don't know why i didn't receive your last email, but doing the :set ?charset was the one which hinted me on the problem. Friendly, Sven Luther
Bug#207951: more info
The misspelling is in the name table of the ttf file. (ttx -t name bsmi00lp.ttf; grep -i reguler bsmi00lp.ttx) I managed to unpack the ttf file and patch the bsmi00lp._n_a_m_e.ttx file, then repack to produce a fixed bsmi00lp.ttf. It's big, contact me if you want a copy. I'm not sure how to redistribute the change to the source of a font like this. Is it enough just to send upstream a fixed copy? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
