Bug#330120: kverbos doesn't load verbs
Package: kverbos Version: 4:3.4.2-2 Severity: important Hi, I am trying to use kverbos to practise my Spanish verbs :) I am using it with the default file of verbs that it comes with, but it is seemingly having trouble loading the verbs in the file. For most of the verbs is throws a warning dialog saying There is a problem with the verb $VERB. Please check the verb in the edit dialog. For some of the verbs (maybe 1 in 8 or so) it works. I don't know what is causing this, and I don't know whether it is a new problem, because I have only ever looked at kverbos very briefly before. However, looking at the edit verb list dialog, it looks to me that maybe kverbos is not reading the list of verbs correctly from the file. It seems to have some of the Spanish mixed in with the column that is supposed to contain the other language (in my case, this should be English), and it is also not displaying the accentedhave no idea characters correctly. Maybe there is a problem with the format of the verb file, which is located in /usr/share/apps/kverbos/data/en/verbos.verbos. Bug#330121: blootbot: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation
Package: blootbot Version: N/A Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. If you do not already use it, please remember about the podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. See its man page for details. The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates changes (EVEN TYPO CORRECTIONS). Then leave about one week for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which requires time). podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the PO files. Bug#330127: rkhunter: Do not send mail when there is no output
Package: rkhunter Severity: normal Rkhunter sends an email on the daily invocation even if there are no warnings or errors. The sent mail is empty which in turn makes /usr/bin/mail complain about the null message body. As a result there are two messages, one confusing, when there should be none. The probably easiest solution would be to remove the pipe to /usr/bin/mail completely and let cron handle the mailing of the output. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) (ignored: LC_ALL set to C) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. If this really is a timeout-thing, I think I know why it might happen here: I changed kdm to start earlier as that takes some time, so kdm is started as 14th in runlevel 2, while PG is 20. So it could be that the startup of KDE (which is quite hdd-intensive) makes PG take quite some time to come up. (Did I tell you that this is a notebook hdd with only 4500 RPM?) If this is indeed the problem an option to increase this timeout in pg_ctlcluster would be really nice - for example in /etc/default/postgresql-server-8.0 or so. Ok, but to be sure that this is really the culprit, can you please increase the timeout to 60 seconds (raise $attempt comparison to 120) and check that indeed the slow startup is the reason, and not something else? 60 Seconds doesn't work either, but 120 do: for (my $attempt = 0; $attempt 240; $attempt++) { Now PG doesn't give an error anymore. I'll try with values of 120 and 40 there while removing kdm from the runlevel.. Andreas -- You will pay for your sins. I can do that, but db-test-pgsql is a decent enough test for now. fair enough. i'll mess around with it a bit later today. On Mon, Sep 26, 2005 at 11:15:36AM +1000, Craig Small wrote: Next problem. I read and I think understood the reason, in the html reference guide and the manpage. Problem statement - My problem is that the manpage seems to suggest that aptitude unmarkauto apt-show-versions should fix the problem, but it appears not to work. As illustrated below, the only option appears to be to allow aptitude to have its wicked way and uninstall, then reinstall deliberately. I could not see any similar reports to this in the BTS (most reports use the curses interface, the closest seem to be 235727, 237830, 266061) Workarounds --- A suggested patch for the manual page is attached. Bug#250583: Still present?
Are you still seeing this? I've been trying to reproduce it, but without much success. The number of fds used by the program (as shown in /proc/pid/fd) is constant. I can see one apparently extraneous mapping in /proc/pid/maps, but only one: jester:~/programming/aptitude/branches/aptitude-0.3/aptitude grep pkgcache\\.bin /proc/`pidof aptitude`/maps b3d13000-b44cf000 r--s fe:00 1376293/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin b44cf000-b44d rw-s 00c0 fe:00 1376293/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin b44d-b44d1000 rw-s 00c0 fe:00 1376292/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin (deleted) b44d1000-b44d2000 rw-s 00c0 fe:00 1376291/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin (deleted) b44d2000-b44d3000 rw-s 00c0 fe:00 1376263/var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin (deleted) I assume that the deleted maps are ones that were munmap'd, but that the kernel remembers them for some reason or other. So there is what appears to be one extra mapping, but that's all I see. Bug#320444: postgresql-8.0: init script returns failed even if postgres started
Hi Andreas! Andreas Pakulat [2005-09-26 9:23 +0200]: 60 Seconds doesn't work either, but 120 do: for (my $attempt = 0; $attempt 240; $attempt++) { 120 seconds? Good grief, it takes 3 seconds even on my relatively slow iBook G4 (800 MHz) laptop (slow hd as well). I guess kdm *really* drains your I/O resources if it lasts that long. I don't want to default to such an exaggerated timeout just for a few users, so I rather make this configurable with a sane default. It seems that this is purely cosmetical for you anyway. Now PG doesn't give an error anymore. I'll try with values of 120 and 40 there while removing kdm from the runlevel.. That would be nice to cross-check. Thanks for checking! Bug#318820: postgresql-8.0: listen_addresses shouldn't bind to all interfaces
I want to add what the idea behind this setting is: The authentication checks in pg_hba.conf are done at a rather late stage of creating the connection. If the server accepts TCP connections from anyone on the Internet, it's trivial to DOS the PostgreSQL server. The current installation default in the Debian package is therefore a gaping security hole. The default setting is therefore to not make the database server visible on external interfaces. The comparison with Apache and SSH is flawed because those services are designed to operate on the open Internet whereas PostgreSQL is definitely not designed for that. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I do not understand why you are waiting to upload a fix just because s390 doesn't build. mysql-dfsg 4.0.24-10 is still vulnerable in unstable for all architectures. (actually I got it wrong, it was powerpc not s390, but doesn't matter here) mysql-server (4.0.x) has been superceeded by mysql-server-4.1 which provides an empty transitional package called mysql-server since version 4.1.14 which struggles to get into testing though. Since then the mysql-dfsg source is only used to produce libmysqlclient12 which should be replaced by libmysqlclient14 soon (release-team asked me to hold that transition back so I wait until the latest 4.1 is in testing and then ask again). As the security bugs do only affect the server I did not upload a new 4.0.x version to unstable. As stable do contain 4.0.x I did not add a not found 4.0.24 to the BTS. I know that this is not easily visible so if there is any tag combination that would help you, please let me know. It is not possible=20 to connect to template0. That might explain the missing success message on template0. Actually the post installation script makes an effort to temporarily enable connection to template0, apply the update, and revert the enable connection change. This works for the common case. The packages in sid are more robust against that, will print a better error message, and not cause the whole package installation to fail, so I'm closing this bug in sid. Since we can not fix such bugs in stable releases, can you please temporarily change your ACLs/configuration to allow template0 connection to user postgres in your setup, reconfigure the postgresql package (dpkg --configure -a) and check whether it succeeds then? Bug#324371: Has SAM been abandoned?
This bug is the most serious of three against SAM. It renders the package unusable, and seems as though it would probably be fixable just by recompiling. It's been sitting for 35 days. Bug#329800: kernel-image-2.6.8-2: NFSv3 Failure with 2.6.8-2, apparently fixed in 2.6.11
On Fri, Sep 23, 2005 at 08:14:45AM -0500, Zach Lowry wrote: Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686-smp Version: 2.6.8-16 Severity: important File: kernel-image-2.6.8-2 Hello! On the 2.6.8-2 kernel-tree, apparently there were a number of NFSv3 problems introduced which Linux later fixed in 2.6.11, or maybe earlier in 2.6.9. This causes a NFSv3 mount from a Services for Unix 3.5 server to successfully mount, but hang whenever a 'ls' is performed on that directory or you attempt to 'cd' to it. I tested this with a 2.6.11 kernel pacgae from unstable and had no problems, nor did I have a problem with a Fedora Core 4 machine which is also running 2.6.11. The condition can be worked aroung by switching to 2.6.11, using NFSv2. Hi, the situation with 2.6.8 is basically that upstream has moved so far since that release, that backporting is typically difficult. If you want to look into making a backport, and it is reasonably clean, I would be more than happy to look at incoporate such a think in sarge updates of 2.6.8 (that kernel is not long for the testing/unstable trees). However, we are really encouraging people to try 2.6.12 (and soon 2.6.13). 2.6.12 is in testing and unstable. And a sarge backport is available, though we haven't found a permanent home for it yet. http://packages.vergenet.net/testing/linux-2.6/ -- Horms -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#326970: dictd: Dictdconfig improvement managing dictionary names
The problem is that, given the way that the locales package works (with locales built by locale-gen), there is no means that I know of to create a dependency on there being a UTF-8 locale built. TP I don't understand why locales are necessary to allow dictd to read TP UTF-8 dictionnaries. It's possible to read UTF-8 mails on an ISO-8859 TP only system, so why dictd cannot do the same ? Hi Thomas, Ludovic, Ludovic: Are you sure the sort order is problematic? Thomas: Quite strange, since revo works perfectly with dictd, word search through indexes works. It is only the 00-* headers missorted. This will have to be fixed, but it is a minor thing. There is definitely a bug in dictd itself, keeping it from reading the 00-* headers (even when properly sorted). Thomas: I don't understand why locales are necessary to allow dictd to read UTF-8 dictionaries. AFAIK, dictd only uses the locale provided to determine sort order for doing its search of the index. It might be possible to incorporate UTF-8 character order into dictd itself. This would not be as elegant from a programing standpoint, and Aleksey might not accept it upstream, but it could be offered and might could be kept as a Debian specific patch to avoid the UFT-8 packaging problems. Thomas: BTW, who is the upstream author of dictd ? Is there a CVS somewhere ? Mailing-list ? Rik Faith wrote it, but Aleksey Cheusov is doing most of the current development. dict.org still has some resources, including the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list, but CVS is now on SourceForge. See sourceforge.net/projects/dict. I had hoped to have addressed this by now, but was surprised with another short trip, and will be returning home this Wednesday. I will try to have it fixed this week. In the meanwhile, a question. I see: revo.en.inx revo.eo.inx revo.es.inx revo.la.inx revo.tr.inx revo.cs.inx revo.de.inx revo.fr.inx revo.ru.inx I assume that that revo.eo.inx is the Esperanto index, and that all others are translation indices. ``dict -D revo.eo abako ''(should this be simply revo?) returns the entire entry, including all translations. ``dict -D revo.en abacus'' returns the same entire entry. Is this desired, or should it omit all translations but the anglaj? Do you plan a single revo package, or one package per language, so I can easily install just the English translations? (For example, the revo-en package, which includes just the revo.en index, could depend upon the main revo package which includes the dictionary database and probably the revo.eo index.)
