Bug#353415: creating package translation fails: kde.pot not found
Package: kdevelop3 Version: 4:3.3.0-2 Severity: normal I have created a KDE application within KDevelop from one of the KDE application templates. If you want to create package translations (make -f admin/Makefile.common package-messages) it fails, because it can't find the location of kde.pot. Debian puts them in /usr/include/kde/kde.pot. For a solution how this could be fixed cleanly take a look at /usr/share/apps/kapptemplate/admin/cvs.sh, line 557. It uses kde-config and so picks up automatically the correct path to kde.pot. KDevelop should update its program templates and use the cvs.sh file of kapptemplate. Bug#353415: Please use the admin/ dir of kapptemplate for KDE applications
severity 353415 important thanks On a second look, the problem is even worse. For all the KDE based application templates, kdevelop creates a very broken admin/ dir. The files are horribly outdated (e.g. contain the old FSF address, last update somewhere around 2002), contains cdbs cruft (config.sub.cdbs-orig) and probably many other problems. So I would suggest to use the admin directory of kapptemplate (/usr/share/apps/kapptemplate/admin/) for all KDE based application templates. This admin dir is much more up to date, clean and functional. Ok, quoting: Social Contract: We will never make the system require the use of a non-free component. Why not file a bug report against it, demanding that it be moved to contrib? Because it's free software that processes asm input, and there is a significant amount of useful, free i386 asm that makes nasm necessary ? I'll ask again: Is the purpose of ndiswrapper running non-free drivers? If it isn't, show me a free, non-toy, non-POC driver that would prove otherwise. (That is a rhetorical question. Bug#353255: Different behaviour if gnome-volume-manager stopped
Hi. If gnome-volume-manager is stopped, then the behaviour is different. As gvm is no longer running, the device is no longer mounted, so the icon appears when hal detects insertion, which is normal. Now, if I try to mount it in the list of icons of nautilus, it will get mounted, but not as something like /media/UDISK 2.0, but rather as /media/sdb1. But no nautilus window is opened of the device then... and double-clicking it show no content, but an error on mounting again... So nautilus is capable of mounting it, but doesn't know where it was mounted apparently... Nor doesn't it know how to unmount it, then. I suspect something is mangled between the /media/UDISK 2.0 and /media/sdb1... Maybe this symptom, when gvm is stopped helps track the problem. Hope this helps. In kcontrol's Font Preferences, it will no longer appear as a possible selection for a fixed width font, but does appear as a selection for all the variable-width fonts. Comparing the package against version 20030519-1 shows only differences in the font files themselves. I'm not sure, but I guess this problem may be related to the change in font-building for this package. Moreover, the defoma hints still say that FreeMono is a fixed-width font. Running defoma-reconfigure did not correct the problem. The x-ttfcidfont-conf directory entries are in my /etc/X11/XF86Config file, and I'm using XTT as my font render. Result: FreeMonoBoldOblique.ttf: 0: 36 name: Microsoft, Unicode, English - United States, unknown 19: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. FreeMonoBold.ttf: 0: 9 name: Macintosh, Roman, English, unknown 19: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. [etc..] Also foreign versions of the lazy dog sentence are present: FreeMono.ttf: 0: 19 name: Microsoft, Unicode, German - Germany, unknown 19: Zwf Boxkpfer jagen Victor quer er den gron Sylter Deich. AFAIK no other font files in Debian have such strings in them. They are not really font names, right? Including test strings in the font is all good fun, but there is one problem: these strings may interfere with the operation of fonttools. For instance ttx FreeMono.ttf produces a FreeMono.ttx file which contains namerecord nameID=19 platformID=3 platEncID=1 langID=0x419 #1042;#1095;#1072;#1097;#1072;#65535;#65535;#63505;#14352;#52240; #65535;#65028;#13828;#14340;#1073;#1099;#1083;#1094;#1080;#1090; #1088;#1091;#1089;#8230;#8212;#1076;#65535;,#1085;#65535;#65535; #63505;#4112;#49168;#60433;#12305;#8208;#57360;#51217;#11280;#65535; #65028;#19716;#14852;#14084;#13572;#15364;#65535;#65535;. /namerecord Maybe this is Russian, but whatever this is, it causes ttx to choke (with a remark about illegal character) when the ttx file is re-converted into ttf. I'd suggest it is better to remove these strings. That unknown 19 suggests something non-standard anyway. ___ Carbon-Copy List: CC Address | Comment +- [EMAIL PROTECTED] | ___ Reply to this item at: http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitemitem_id=15791 ___ Message posté via/par Savannah http://savannah.nongnu.org/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#352956: libclamav1: postinstall should restart clamd and freshclam

It is technically possible of course, but it is non-trivial. In this particulare case, I also feel it's mostly a no-op, since the packages for the daemons are also upgraded at the same time, in the most common case, so it should take care of itself. Bug#353432: partman-server as some trouble in setting the prep partition.
Package: partman Severity: grave Tags: d-i Justification: renders package unusable Hello, ... First a notice, i will be away next week and possible offline, and i am not sure about this bug, if it concerns also other parted flags, like the raid or lvm one, so i put a grave severity. If you can confirm that lvm and raid are not in cause here, please lower the severity to important. I have some trouble with my motorola powerstack II prep box, and partman-prep. The log shows partman-server failing at line 1517 or something such, and being unable to set the 'prep' system flag/system type. I know that this is some failing of libparted, which doesn't properly separate the flags from the partition types, but it may potentially affect all such cases (prep, raid, lvm, palo, ...) who use the mbr/dos/fdisk partition table disk type, especially as my own tentative to do a 'partition whole disk with lvm' also failed. I believe that this needs investigating (and fixing if possible) before the beta2 goes out. So, what did i do ? I did a netboot install with the latest daily built (2006.02.17) and the .udebs in todays archive (2006.02.18), including partman-prep 7. In partman i chose erase whole ddisk (erase whole disk and use lvm failed, but possibly for other reasons), then selected the created prep partition (which has not the prep flag though), and selected the partition type and 'use partition as prep boot partition', and there i was greeted with an error dialog telling me : ??? ??? and offering me back and continue buttons. Hitting any of the buttons just kept me in this dialog, and i could not get back to the normal interface. the last lines of relevance of the partman log are : parted_server: command_change_file_system(32256-8225279,prep) parted_server: partition_with_id(32256-8225279) parted_server: Bad file system type: parted_server: Line 1579. CRITICAL ERROR!!! EXITING /lib/partman/update.d/50filesystems: error_handler: expection with type /lib/partman/update.d/50filesystems: error_handler: reading message /lib/partman/update.d/50filesystems: error_handler: reading options and then nothing. More repeats of this error if i press the back/continue buttons. Not doing this create me a partition table, but without the prep partition type set, and thus prep-installer and yaboot-installer (for IBM pseries and newer boxes) fail further down the line, rendering the system unusable. Bug#152400: g-i games: tentative icebreaker and libsdl source packages ...
Forgot to CC sam as planned. Mmm, i also found : #152400 -- libsdl1.2: Please enable DirectFB support which dates back to 2002 and 2003, and there seem to have been a build problem back than with libdirectfb, but as i was able to build it now, maybe we could close this above bug also, and produce a libdirectfb enable .deb too. Sam, can you look at what i have done, as we discussed in paris ? Friendly, Sven Luther On Sat, Feb 18, 2006 at 11:52:17AM +0100, Sven Luther wrote: Hi all, I have uploaded my work for tentative libsdl and icebreaker udebs to : http://people.debian.org/~luther/d-i/games I wanted to work on those more, but doubt i will have time before fosdem, so anyone interested may have a look. I built those in extremadura, and the remaining problems are : - libsdl : the sound part was not properly disabled, i only did --disable-audio, but not the individual sound drivers. The full list is in ./configure --help. The actual libsdl maintainer team seems MIA, but Sam hocevar, who did the latest uploads promised me he would have a look. Sam can you do something with those packages ? If we could have a libsdl in unstable that produces the needed .udeb for fosdem, this would allow me to work on the actual game until there. - There is a list of games on the g-i wiki, of them i selected icebreaker. The constraints was to have no C++, no sound, no gtk+ or qt, no X dependencies, so only libsdl, and directfb/gtk where allowed. Icebreaker, of all the games i emaximed (i examined the list upto m or so one late night in extremadura) seemed the most suitable for our purpose, it is a quick game, and easy to understand, usable with mouse only even. Problems with the icebreaker game is that there is some work needing done to be able to disable the sound (it works nicely, but mklibs is not happy trying to get the sound libs), and there seem to be some directfb or powerpc bugs in it. At least one endianess bug (i got red instead of bluish), and some strange bug which moved the screen lower than where the mouse was clicking. But these should be easily solvable, i believe. - The last issue, which goes beyond games, is the packaging of the fusion kernel modules, i will try to look at this (offline) during this week, and have something ready at fosdem, which i can then upload once i am back. Bug#349657: [bug #15792] Freefont Alef and Lamed combine
URL: http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitemitem_id=15792 Summary: Freefont Alef and Lamed combine Project: Free UCS Outline Fonts Submitted by: bubulle Submitted on: sam 18.02.2006 à 11:18 Category: None Severity: 3 - Normal Item Group: None Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open ___ Details: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=349657 When the unicode character 0x05D0 (HEBREW LETTER ALEF) is immediately followed by 0x05DC (HEBREW LETTER LAMED) in the FreeSans or FreeSerif font, the two characters combine and are replaced by 0xFB4F (HEBREW LIGATURE ALEF LAMED). The ligature is an archaic form that is not used in modern Hebrew. The combination of Alef followed by Lamed is very common in Hebrew, so this bug renders these fonts nearly unusable for any OOo document that needs to include Hebrew text. The characters become combined any time they are next to each other - not just when they are input. For example, when I input Alef and Lamed separated by some other character, then delete the other character, the Alef and Lamed then combine. The bug occurs for FreeSans and FreeSerif, but NOT FreeMono, from the ttf-freefont package, version 20051102-2. That package installs version 1.28 of the fonts. The bug occurs in both Writer and Calc. The following builds of OOo were tested by the upstream developers using version 1.27 of freefont, downloaded from http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/freefont/freefont-ttf.zip and manually installed to OOo using spadmin, on a Debian testing system: a) Hebrew 2.0 from OpenOffice.org.il b) English 2.0 from OpenOffice.org c) English 2.0.1 from OpenOffice.org d) Debian OOo package 2.0.0-5 (English) The problem ONLY occured for (d), the Debian package build. From: Yitzchak Gale [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: This is a font bug Date: Wed, 25 Jan 2006 03:45:08 +0200 I now believe that this is a bug in the fonts. It is still a mystery to me why this problem only occurs in the Debian build, though. Please forward this bug to ttf-freefont, and upgrade severity to important. In the freetype fonts, the OpenType feature tag for the Alef-Lamed ligature (0xFB4F) is liga, which means Standard Ligature. That implies that the ligature is mandatory. But this ligature certainly should not be mandatory. The correct feature tag for this ligature should be dlig, which means Discretionary Ligature. See the OpenType specification document for Hebrew at: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otfntdev/hebrewot/features.aspx When I make this change in the SFD source file and recompile using fontforge, the problem is fixed. ___ Carbon-Copy List: CC Address | Comment +- [EMAIL PROTECTED] | ___ File Attachments: --- Date: sam 18.02.2006 à 11:18 Name: 349657.diff Size: 10,81Ko By: bubulle Patch to replace all liga/hliga by quot;dligquot; as recommended by the inital bug submitter http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/download.php?item_id=15792item_file_id=3414 ___ Reply to this item at: http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitemitem_id=15792 ___ Message posté via/par Savannah http://savannah.nongnu.org/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#353435: Patch for gettext.m4 to remove superfluous operations

Bug#283232: screen, delete keys and terminal types
Screen sometimes breaks deleting for me too. Outside screen, - sends ^? and my stty settings expect that. If TERM=xterm-color: Inside screen, - sends ^[[3~ but stty settings expect ^?. The bindkey line from old versions of screen has no effect on this. If TERM=xterm: Inside screen, - sends ^? and stty settings expect that. The reason I sometimes have TERM=xterm-color is that that's what Apple's Terminal.app sets. Since ncurses applications at least seem to recognize TERM=xterm as a color terminal anyway setting that solves my immediate problem, though of course it would be nice if screen could just work without having to remember workarounds. Screen copies the stty setting of the time screen is started to the settings in the window I don't think this can be the whole story; apparently the terminal can affect things in an unhelpful way too. I'm using screen 4.0.2-4.1 though I notice that 3.9.11-5woody1 has the same behaviour. ttfn/rjk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#350992: (Not) Moving all stuff to TEXMFDIST
[ CCing relevant tetex-bin bug #350992 ] On Sat, Feb 18, 2006 at 11:09 +0100, Norbert Preining wrote: Well, so trivial it is unfortunately not. tcfmgr is searched in TEXMFMAIN, which will for sure break also in tetex. That is problematic indeed. One could change the way tcfmgr is searched, but I am not sure it is worth it. In fact on second thought I don't think that we should *really* do this. Other Debian packages can override other latex/tex packages, but they should not be able to hide so-to-say system stuff. I don't know what texlive installs in TEXMFMAIN. For tetex-bin we have * some mktex* scripts and option files web2c * pool files * dvips header files * tcfmgr and related files * pixmaps and configuration files for xdvi As you noted, tcfmgr is explicitly searched in TEXMFMAIN. I am not sure about the mktex* scripts. Everything else should be possible to replace. Although the system would break badly if one where to replace the pool files without replacing the binaries. And if somebody provides a package with a more recent pdfTeX, it probably would be cleaner if /both/ binary and pool file were diverged. cheerio ralf -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Steve, Can you confirm you are using a parallel port printer with 0.91-9? There are reports that unless hpoj runs as root, that parallel support does not function correctly, even with correct permissions on the lp devices. Without something to work on, an assembler is just as useless as ndiswrapper. Which package(s) in main depend on nasm? You can check that yourself. I guess a few dozens. Why not file a bug report against it, demanding that it be moved to contrib? Because it's free software that processes asm input, and there is a significant amount of useful, free i386 asm that makes nasm necessary ? But nasm requires such assembly for useful execution! This is the same situation as ndiswrapper. Neither are very useful unless you use them with software that is not in main. They both *compile* and *execute* without extra software, which is all that policy requires. You are the one who insists that the execution must be free, non-toy, non-POC, and that is why I said that if you want to change the state of things, you should revise the DFSG or policy. But even if that weren't the case, nasm is an assembler -- it doesn't rely on assembler code to do anything useful, its purpose is to translate assembler code. ndiswrapper isn't a driver compiler, it's a wrapper to allow existing drivers to run on Linux. If there aren't any free ones, or the free ones are useless toys, then it belongs in contrib because its purpose is to allow you to run non-free software. Bug#353445: ndiswrapper-utils: depends on ndiswrapper-modules
Package: ndiswrapper-utils Severity: normal The ndiswrapper-utils package depends on ndiswrapper-modules even though the user might have compiled the kernel themselves and the modules are not any use. The ndiswrapper-modules package says: Description: Ndiswrapper linux kernel module This package contains the ndiswrapper loadable kernel modules for the kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386 package. . If you compiled a custom kernel, you will most likely need to compile a custom version of this module as well. The ndiswrapper-source package has been provided for this purpose. The modules are only needed by users that are not compiling the package themselves. Any users that need to use ndiswrapper-source will not need to use ndiswrapper-modules and therefore ndiswrapper-utils should not be installing it. (The ndiswrapper-utils should not be changed to depend on ndiswrapper-source either since the user might be compiling a kernel without using any Debian source packages.) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#351571: Adding an ignore list to pg_restore
Hi PostgreSQL developers! On [1], Stephen and I are currently discussing how to provide seamless automatic version upgrades of PostgreSQL databases with third party modules like PostGIS. The core problem is that we want to not restore objects (mainly tables) in the destination database which already exist. pg_restore currently offers the -L option to selectively restore only particular objects, so our original idea was to automatically create this list based on the output of pg_dump -Fc --schema-only $db | pg_restore -l for the original and target databases. However, there is a fundamental problem with this approach. When using --schema-only, the generated list naturally does not contain TABLE DATA entries. This means that we cannot figure out the catalog id of the DATA object. Of course there are workarounds [2], but both of them are inefficient. So my current idea is to add a new option --ignore-list to pg_restore which specifies a file with objects that should not be restored. This file should not contain catalog IDs, but human readable data: type schema tag e. g. if we know that we don't want to restore the public.foo table, then this file would contain TABLE public foo TABLE DATA public foo I would be willing to provide an implementation, but before I wanted to ask if this feature is something you would generally accept, or regard as totally crackful? Another way would be to add an option which specifically ignores objects that are already present in the target database. This would be more robust and probably easier to implement, but less general than the ignore list. Thank you in advance for any comment, Martin [1] http://bugs.debian.org/351571 [2] (1) run pg_dump without --schema-only twice (once for pg_restore -l, second time for actual restoration), or (2) save pg_dump output into a temporary file -- Martin Pitthttp://www.piware.de Ubuntu Developer http://www.ubuntu.com Debian Developer http://www.debian.org In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates? signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#353447: Weird suggestion on closing bugs fixed in NMU
Package: developers-reference Severity: normal To my big surprise, I read in section 6.3.2: | It is an old tradition to acknowledge bugs fixed in non-maintainer | uploads in the first changelog entry of the proper maintainer upload, | for instance, in a changelog entry like this: | |* Maintainer upload, closes: #42345, #44484, #42444. | | This will close the NMU bugs tagged fixed when the package makes it | into the archive. The bug for the fact that an NMU was done can be | closed the same way. Of course, it's also perfectly acceptable to close | NMU-fixed bugs by other means; see Responding to bugs, Section 5.8.2. Which is IMHO wrong advice: The bug submitter will then get this statement as a bug closing mail, while the bug wasn't closed by this upload! I think this practice should rather be strongly discouraged, rather than encouraged. The best practice IMHO is to use dpkg-buildpackage -vlast maintainer upload on the maintainer upload, thereby including the changelogs bits for the NMU's, and not mention any bugs that were not solely I NMU'd, here's a patch type of bugs. In general, it should IMHO be emphasised that a Closes: statement in a changelog should at all times refer to something that actually really is closing/fixing the bug in question, rather than procedural stuff etc. With dpkg-buildpackage -v, the submitter of a bug will get as explanation the changelog bit that actually made his bug get resolved.
