Bug#360425: iso-codes: New ISO-3166 codes for Jersey, Guernesey, Isle of Man

2006-04-02 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: iso-codes
Version: 0.49-1
Severity: normal

http://www.iso.org/iso/en/prods-services/iso3166ma/03updates-on-iso-3166/nlv11-div.html

This deserves three new entries in the ISO-3166 list.

And a big translation updates round, I'm afraid.

Bug#347672: Evolution Hangs on Startup

2006-04-02 Thread Benjamin Mesing
Hello

I am experiencing the same hangs as the first author.
Evolution hangs with the following output:
adding hook target 'source'

(evolution:4981): camel-WARNING **: camel_exception_get_id
called with NULL parameter.

(evolution:4981): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_gc_set_foreground:
assertion `GDK_IS_GC (gc)' failed

Evolution hangs with 0% processor usage, and displaying only
Search Folders - Unmatched (I.e. the whole On this Computer tree is
not yet displayed.

This happens for a freshly booted system with a IceWM as window
manager.

Killing: evolution-alarm-notify, evolution-data-server-1.4,
bonobo-activation-server and gconfd-2 lets me start evolution afterwards
(tested twice - assuming its reproducable, don't know which of those is
causing the trouble). Shutting down evolution cleanly and restarting it
works then, even though the processes listed above are running.
Once, evolution hung when choosing to create a new message and I killed
it. Afterwards I had to kill the processes again to be able to start
evolution again.
Evolution version is 2.4.2.1-2.

Hope this gives you some clue.

Ben

The LTSP packages are supposed to work out of the box, and sound is
intended to be one of the parts of LTSP that should work as much as
possible out of the box. You are free to ignore the sound facilities,
but the default should depend on sound packages.

If I could find a well working way to detect if sound is present and
then be able to enable sound by default on the clients with sound
support, I will do this. Making sound more optional and dropping the
depend to the sound packages is not planned.

i don't see why a server-side dependency is required- the terminals do
not even have a dependency on any sound utilities anymore. this seems
like a perfect use of the Recommends field- something that on most
installs would be present, but not absolutely mandatory.

there should be a way to get the bare-bones install, without any bells
or whistles, that doesn't involve hacking the ltsp-build-client script.

if the defaults are to install all the bells and whistles, why make it
hard for people to customize to their particular needs?

live well,

Bug#269653: Old kbd-chooser bug on Oldworld Powermac: may someone try reproducing it?

2006-04-02 Thread Rick Thomas

I'll check it out next chance I get. It will probably be a week or two
before I get time to try it. If that's too long, I'd guess you can
close this issue out. I've installed several PPC machines (admittedly
all more modern than the PowerMac 6500/225 in question) since then and
don't remember seeing this problem.

We (D-I team) have an old bug lying in kbd-chooser bug log for
Oldworld Powermac installs:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=269653

Given that kbd-chooser and the installer have changed a lot since
then, it's pretty much likely that the bug is away. May someone try
reproducing it with a recent installer image such as D-I Etch beta2
(http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer)?

Bug summary:

During the language/keyboard choice phase, I took all the defaults
(Language-English, Region-UnitedStates, KeyboardType-USB) until it
came to the Keymap choice. There the default was European. This is
*not* what I expected -- or what was the default behavior in the past!
Having done everything possible to indicate that I was in the USA and
speaking English, I would have expected the default keymap to be
AmericanEnglish.

The machine is a PowerMac 6500/225.

Bug#355554: Let's get it uploaded...

2006-04-02 Thread Daniel Baumann
Arnaud,

as Roland previously said, you seemed to be working on building the
modules out-of-tree too, before I submited the bug nearly a month ago.
But since then, nothing has happened from your side with respect to a
package upload.

As we discussed a month a go, you do agree with me, that we want to have
the modules built out-of-tree, so this isn't the problem.

You raised concerns about rebuilding the upstream tarball with
unpackaged patches, I don't agree but it is no longer the issue with my
current packages (made two weeks ago). So, this isn't a problem too.

Last, you said you dislike debhelper in favour for cdbs. Independent of
whetever I do agree with you, the cdbs gives no possibility to build
such a package.

Formal request (needed for my sponsor): Do you give me the ok to upload
my squashfs package.

You can, still, have a look at it under:
http://archive.daniel-baumann.ch/debian/packages/squashfs/2.99+3.0/

(FYI: it is version 3.0 final, but packaged as 2.99+3.0 to not 'waste'
version numbers if I'll switch to unstable when it has properly build in
experimental on the architectures I don't have at home: s390, arm and
mips. On all other architectures, the package built fine.)

Regards,
Daniel

Thanks for your your bugreport and your patch.

Scite 1.68 is released. I've attached a diff.gz for the new version. It
includes several other changes. I also notice that you are missing some
of the secondary copyright holders in debian/copyright. I've left it for
you to search through the code for them, since there are a few, and you
need to add copyright/licence stuff for the lua parts.

Thanks for the diff and for reminding me about scite. I uploaded a new
version and used (large) parts of your patch :)

Cheers,

Trying to start monodevelop, it inevitably crashes every time.
So I tried starting it from console, and this is what I had:

I also know that this could be considered a duplicate of #295176, but that
bugreport was for version 0.5.1-2, and the last post to
it, made by Luciano Rossi refers to version 0.9-1. I believe that, since that
bugreport was tagged as moreinfo, and Luciano Rossi
posted this bug as important, it's better to open another bugreport with the
correct tags.
Please, close this if you believe it's a useless duplicate.

Cheers,
David

I must admit that I am a NuB in the Nux world (3 months); however I
finished my first computer design/build 53 years ago and have been at it
ever since. This is now the stick I shove in my ear to stir with to
prevent cereberal ossification.
In each attempted install (total of 5 I think) using and not using
linux26 on both target machines resulted in a blue window displaying
the appropriate partitions to craeate the mdx with but refused to allow
me to mark the chosen ones with anything but a felt tipped marker. On
target #1 the installer failed to show any partitions on the fourth
drive for the raid5 set and still refused to let me make a three drive
set.on the others. (I brought up FC4 and with parted verified the
partitions).
The FC4 and SuSE 10 installs went fine except for DHCP on SuSE. All
else working fine.

The only comments I dare make in print are )(IU*^%$#!!! :))
If I can assist you by specific actions on these machines and
reporting back to you; I'm willing to try but my command line prowess is
still only a legend in my mind. I'm not to worried about damaging the
current installs, they are primarily for my own amazement and amusement
and education + running [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#358001: partman: please create ext3 file systems with online resize support

2006-04-02 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Bastian Blank]
Please enable dir_index at the same time.

Could be nice, but it can be added using tune2fs after the file system
is created, while resize_inode can not be added after the file system
is created, so I believe it should have higher priority than
dir_index. I'm not saying that dir_index should not be added, I just
ask you to consider them independently.

Bug#359292: depends on obsolete libopenal0

2006-04-02 Thread Robert Bihlmeyer
tags + 359292 patch
thanks

Well, after the rebuild crystalspace does no longer depend on
libopenal0, but it seems to have been built without OpenAL support now
(no dependency on libopenal0a, and the buildd log says checking for OpenAL...
no).

It turns out that CS really uses alut, which is now in a different
package, needing an additional build-dependency. The following patch
will make the configure check work. But I'm not sure whether that
wholly fixes the issue, as my test build borked on some swig-generated
files (maybe I will look into *that* problem later).

Bug#349501: Two bugs fixed in 0.1.11

2006-04-02 Thread Roland Mas
Hi,

I downloaded the 0.1.11 upstream tarball and ran uupdate on it. I
then fiddled a bit with the debian/patches directory, and I now have
an f-spot_0.1.11-0.1_i386.deb packages where bugs #358551 and #349501
are both fixed. The package (source+binary) is currently available on
http://roland.mas.free.fr/debian/unstable/ (and will probably stay
there at least until a fixed f-spot enters unstable). I haven't tried
to reproduce the other outstanding bugs.

Andrew: if you're still busy, I could clean up the package a bit (in
particular 01_fix_wrapper.dpatch was ported very crudely) and NMU.

Roland.

Bug#327577: #327577

This bug is not specific to sarge:
 | # /etc/init.d/vservers-default start
 | Starting vservers of type 'default'.../usr/lib/util-vserver/start-vservers:
line 199: make: command not found
 | .

No this is a specific sarge issue. The reason is that make is _recommended_
which
make it possible for you to install it without having make in
the system. You can actually use a number of the vserver features
(that is the legacy features) without having make installed.

For testing and unstable the following packages are recommended:

Recommends: make, binutils

I still think it is valid to have it recommended and not depended.
Please convince me otherwise.

Thanks for the pointer though.

Regards,

// Ola

PS. Next time, please do not change the found version as it was
found in sarge. Rather remove the sarge tag instead.
DS.

 Bastian

Sure, whatever :) devcheck is too much like the QA debcheck, but
 how about dev-checker?

Sounds good!

BTW, I have an additional way of avoiding the killing the BTS at

I prefer to give something copy-and-paste-able, and which doesn't
assume that everyone wont use day=0 hour=0.

There are two options here:
(1) Trust that developers are competent enough to make the change
themselves, or
(2) Not trust them.

And everyone using day=0 hour=0 will be identical to everyone using
day=0 hour=2!

I'd prefer to go for option 1.

Of course, if we want to do it automatically, we could stick it into
/etc/cron.weekly ourselves, but I'd be inundated by bug reports if I
did that!

I'm attaching the most recent copy; help2man output is even sane.

Ah, a different license :)

echo --mail Send mail rather than displaying to stdout
echo --delay Delay for a random time interval at startup

And will need --no-mail and --no-delay options too.

No, can't set DEBEMAIL in .devscripts, need to set it in the

I'd prefer not to rely on lynx/links if possible and make do with
wget/sed/perl.

Also, need to test for the presence of the required programs (such as
wget) before running these checks.

sed -ne '/^[[:space:]]*\* \[[[:digit:]]\+\]\(#[[:digit:]]\)/s//\1/p';
# grep -E '^[[:space:]]*\* \[[[:digit:]]+\]#[[:digit:]]+' |

Why the commented out lines?

 if [ -n $XMAIL ]; then
   exec -;
   exec 13;

Not sure what this bit does; wouldn't exec 13- be adequate?

Finally, I think it would be nice to have a devscripts option
DEVCHECKER_EXCLUDE which would be a colon-separated list of tests to
skip. Then each test would read:

case :$EXCLUDE: in
:thistest:) # skip test

Bug#360432: mc: Wrong width of the copy dialog in ru_RU.UTF-8

2006-04-02 Thread Alexander E. Patrakov

Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.1-2
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

To reproduce: in the ru_RU.UTF-8 locale, try to copy a file. You'll see the
following dialog:

── Копирование ─

Разыменовывать ссылки[ ] Внутрь каталога, если
Сохранять атрибуты [ ] Сохранять символические сс
[ Дальше ] [ В фоне ] [ Прервать ]

I.e., because mc somewhere uses string length in bytes instead of its width in
character-cells, the dialog becomes (wrongly) wider than the screen. One cannot
even tell if the Сохранять атрибуты (Preserve attributes) checkbox is checked.

In ru_RU.KOI8-R, when one character is one byte and one character cell, the
dialog width is normal:

Bug#354743: reportbug cannot handle gzip-Compressed http responses

now packages.debian.org is back again and reacts with gzip-compressed
HTTP answers when asked for them.

Now the answer to the url that reportbug uses
  (http://packages.debian.org/package) is a gzip-compressed 302. So the
HTTPRedirectHandler jumps in and fetches the given url (which points to
the cgi-perl-script doing the actual search). This handle however
doesn't ask packages.d.o for a compressed response and thus the response
is plain text. But reportbug still thinks its compressed and thus tries
to decompress the plain text message which of course fails with an
  IOError.

There are 2 solutions to this:

  1. The easiest: Turn off the Accept-Encoding line in urlutils.py:urlopen

  2. find out why reportbug doesn't get that the real response is not
  gzipped anymore and fix it.

I had a quick look for 2 but I couldn't find anything besides that the
error happens when the page returned is read().

I still can't duplicate this problem here. There is an unrelated bug
in the package version checking that I just fixed, but reading the
resulting page doesn't result in any problems here. I tested with
 both Python 2.3 and 2.4.

Maybe packages.debian.org redirects somewhere different for requests
from Europe? Here, it maps to
 http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?searchon=namesversion=allexact=1keywords=reportbug,
which doesn't send a compressed response.

Hmm, I think I have an idea where the compression might come from. Let
me check that tonight and I'll close the bug if it's true with a proper
explanation.

msgid This package contains the administrative tools necessary to run on the Kerberos master server. However, installing this package does not automatically set up a Kerberos realm. Doing so requires entering passwords and as such is not well-suited for package installation. To create the realm, run the krb5_newrealm command. You may also wish to read /usr/share/doc/krb5-kdc/README.KDC and the administration guide found in the krb5-doc package.
Bug#213361: ITP: kbtin -- A text-based MUD client

2006-04-02 Thread Bart Martens
Hello Adam,

I see that linda complains about this:

W: kbtin; The file config.guess contains a timestamp line that is less than
2002.
W: kbtin; The file config.sub contains a timestamp line that is less than 2002.

The debian/changelog contains multiple entries. I'm not sure whether
that's OK for an initial release.

I would add this line to the description in debian/control, as described
in the developers reference (note that extra space):

  Homepage: http://kbtin.sourceforge.net/

I think that debian/copyright is incomplete. I should contain lines
like this:

Copyright years name author

Hope this helps,

Bart Martens

I'm using testing. Since a few days ago, when I insert my usb stick with
a filesystem called Mr. Brown, it no longer gets mounted at
/media/Mr. Brown, and instead gets mounted at /media/sda1 (or
whatever the device file happens to be). This breaks various scripts and
other setups of mine that rely on a deterministic name for that
  particular usb stick.

Just tried to reproduce this. Called my usb stick ''Mr. Black'' and that works
fine. I gues the version of pmount in testing is too old, causing some
breackage. Could you try the pmount version from unstable ?

The version from unstable works. Thanks!

Bug#360399: python-ctypes 0.9.9.3-2 incompatibly changes API

2006-04-02 Thread Ganesan Rajagopal

Joe Wreschnig wrote:

Package: python-ctypes
Version: 0.9.9.3-2
Severity: grave

0.9.9.3 uses a different API to load shared object files, which is the
primary purpose of the ctypes library. This version of the package
breaks exfalso and python-musicbrainz. You can verify this by running
the test_clib example, or any code which uses LoadLibrary.

The documentation has also not been updated to reflect the API change.

Please reupload 0.9.6 with an epoch to force the package to downgrade
until this issue is resolved (by e.g. a new upstream release).

Bug#360261 has already been filed for this. I have pulled in a fix from
the latest CVS (probably because of your mail to the upstream author)
and uploaded 0.9.9.3-3. Please confirm this works for you. I'll merge
the bugs after your reply.

Bug#294495: ITA: povray-3.5 -- Persistence of vision raytracer (3D renderer)

2006-04-02 Thread Clément Stenac
Hi,

Do you still intend to adopt povray-3.5, or is it time to remove it?

Actually, I adopted povray, but made a povray-3.6 package because of
possible incompatibilities. As it appears that there aren't any, I'm
going to merge povray (dummy dependency package) and povray-3.6, and
drop povray-3.5 quite soon.

thanks for the QA work.

Bug#359887: cdbs: Flag minimal CDBS version

2006-04-02 Thread Ian Wienand
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.37
Followup-For: Bug #359887

Hi,

OK, I can see that back-porting might be unsuitable.

I also see that generating control.in from rules in a bad idea, but I
really like my Makefiles that build packages being able to
automagically fill in dependencies that CDBS needs.

How about something like the follow, where you allow a flag for a
minimal version?

Thanks,

Bug#360452: libgtkhtml2(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date libtool scripts

2006-04-02 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: libgtkhtml2
Version: 2.6.3-1
Severity: important

Hello,

The current version of libgtkhtml2 fails to build on
GNU/kFreeBSD, because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool in libgtkhtml2 is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD. libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package (Make sure you are
using libtool 1.5.2-1 or later):
  libtoolize -c -f
aclocal (-Im4 might be needed if there's an m4 template dir)
  autoconf

Note that you should probably use the same version of aclocal (from
the packages automake*) than the one used in the package. You could
determine it by looking at the first line of Makefile.in.

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Bug#208692: ITP: picprog -- Microchip PIC microcontroller programmer software

2006-04-02 Thread Bart Martens
Hello Jan,

About your package of picprog I found here:
http://www.janw.easynet.be/picprog/i386/

It's good to mention the homepage in the description in debian/control,
and how you did it is almost perfect. How it should be done:
http://www.us.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-best-pkging-practices.en.html#s-bpp-upstream-info

The debian/changelog has multiple entries. I'm not sure whether that's
OK for an initial version to be uploaded in Debian.

I would add Closes: #208692 in the debian/changelog to close your ITP
bug report.

I see that your package depends on libstdc++6-dev which pulls in gcc-3.4
and it's friends. Does libstdc++6-4.0-dev work for your package ?

I have not tested your package.

Regards,

Bart Martens

Bug#360438: suexec: suexec from root with an invalid ID runs as root

2006-04-02 Thread David Schmitt
There was a short discussion on irc later:

(12:49:06) doener: daniel_hozac: hm, doesn't make that patch the assumption
that you have already chroot'ed?
(12:50:50) daniel_hozac: doener: the chroot happens before the uid is used.
(12:51:21) daniel_hozac: but yeah, for when you use --uid and not --chroot, it
won't do the right thing.
(12:54:03) doener: ah, right the chroot stuff is in there... but maybe the
name to uid resolution could be done by some other tool in the chain and have
only vserver accept names, while vcontext just gets some checks to ensure
that the uid is a valid number
(12:55:09) doener: the other tool could receive the path to the vserver (or
look it up) and use fgetpwent
(12:55:20) daniel_hozac: the resolution would have to happen after vcontext.
(12:57:14) doener: why?
(12:59:44) doener:
http://www.13thfloor.at/~doener/vserver/tools/vexec-0.03.c -- resolution
happens first
(13:05:19) daniel_hozac: i guess the optimal solution would be one that
executes id inside the vserver.
(13:07:54) daniel_hozac: as that would work even for nss_ldap and such.
(13:16:26) DavidS: daniel_hozac: while i agree, that the resolution should
happen within the context, I can't image how that should work in a generic
fashin (does id/getent exist everywhere?)
(13:17:34) daniel_hozac: right, which is why my patch does it sort-of-inside.
(13:22:04) DavidS: i would have expected suexec to use su from the
vserver ...
(13:25:21) daniel_hozac: well, if you can't expect id to be present, you can't
expect su to be present either :)
(13:31:58) DavidS: daniel_hozac: touche :)
(13:32:44) DavidS: then it should probably be something in the apps/ config?
how-to-{change,map}-uid ?
(13:32:56) DavidS: with id/su as good defaults
(13:35:40) daniel_hozac: well, you can already use vserver ... exec su ...
(13:36:10) daniel_hozac: vserver ... suexec implies it's something that the
utils themselves do.
(13:36:50) DavidS: then you can't ever resolve a _name_
(13:37:06) daniel_hozac: hmm?
(13:37:06) shedi left the room (quit: Quit: Leaving).
(13:38:24) DavidS: where is the difference between using lib_nss,
reading /etc/passwd or using id/su/getent?
(13:38:38) DavidS: (everything from the vserver of course)
(13:39:18) DavidS: resolving a name within the vserver without using
information (executable or otherwise) from the vserver is impossible ...
(13:39:33) daniel_hozac: we can't do the first, parsing /etc/passwd
and /etc/group manually when there are already functions to do so invokes the
lazyness in me, and the third, well, you can already do that.
(13:40:04) daniel_hozac: my patch will use getpwent and initgroups for
usernames.
(13:42:29) DavidS: i've seen it .. ah, that was the dietlibc ifdef ...
preventing to use glibc/nss

 Hi Jorg,

Thank you for the reply. Running the command you mentioned works fine. There
 is
therefore no bug as such, but could I suggest that the documentation be

please? I expected the executable file for viewing the chart to be called
bootchart-view, not bootchart for one thing,

That's a decision of Ziga. I wouldn't rename it.

but the documentation in /usr/share/doc/bootchart-view/README says:

I fix this with the next release and talk to upstream to replace this by
the bootchart command.

Have a nice day, Jörg.

Bug#360387: [pkg-wpa-devel] Bug#360387: wpasupplicant: please support the old daemon mode as an configuration option

2006-04-02 Thread Joerg Platte
Am Sonntag, 2. April 2006 07:15 schrieben Sie:
Hi Kel!

I have some thoughts to implement some sort of network profiling using
only callbacks from wpa_cli. I'll try to get together some sort of code
for you to try soon. After the last release I've taken a little breather
to collect my thoughts, it was a hectic two weeks.

:-)

Personaly, I had no objection to the init script being included, but not
active. However, it had severe limitations, and as new programs emerge,
that can handle your wifi profiles (eg. network-manager) using far
superior methods than an init daemon + ifplugd (or whatever), it is
important that we move on with some lower level integration of
wpa_supplicant with out networking scripts, imho.

I'm using this mapping stuff, because it's very easy to write my own options
to /etc/network/interfaces and parse them with a script
in /etc/network/if-up.d. And this options and scripts can be used either by
Wifi or Ethernet interfaces. This makes it very convenient. I don't know
network-manager in detail, but if the same functionality is possible, I may
switch to it.

Having said that, its possible to provide a simplistic method of wifi
profiling, by calling for information from wpa_cli and executing
different network specific operations. The framework is already there,
using the manual inet METHOD plus an action script. The hard part is
fooling ifupdown into going along with such plans . . .

Hmm, maybe ifupdown must be adjusted as well. Personally, I like the old
approach, with this simple daemons working together and everything is managed
by a simple configuration file.

Jörg

Bug#360460: New upstream version available (0.99.3)

2006-04-02 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: pam
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

the current version of pam in Debian (0.79) is over one year old,
current upstream version is 0.99.3. The reason why I ask for an updated
version of pam is that I want to package pam_keyring [1] for Debian, which
requires pam = 0.99. Any chance to get an updated version of pam or are
there reasons to keep it at 0.79?

Regards,
Michael

Hello,

Trying to update a CVS Tree with this module (automatic build a

Erreur d'entrée/sortie: read( 5 ) at /usr/share/perl5/IPC/Run/IO.pm line 547

Which stand for I/O error: read

To submit my reportbug I launch the program with LANG=C to have the
original error message and then all works fine.

So, this package can not be used if LANG != C.

Bug#360468: superfluous depends

2006-04-02 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: openoffice.org2-soikko
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: important

Hi,

1) Ok, as you ship a uno package you can't use dpkg-shlibdeps, right.
(Can't you hack around to run dpkg-shlibdeps on the pkgs contents?).

In any case, objdump -p shows me it links against libstlport_gcc.so.4.6
so you don't need to depend on libstlport4.6-dev but only on
libstlport4.6. (Which incidentially is built with an ABI-incompatible
   Version of g++, but anyway...)

2) You depend on openoffice.org (= 2.0). With that you force your users
to install the whole suite which people might not want. (e.g. they
   only want to install -writer=.
   Please do something like: openoffice.org (= 2.0) |
   openoffice.org-writer (= 2.0) | openoffice.org-impress (= 2.0) |
other stuff supporting spellchecking, too lazy to check

Rene

Bug#360470: FTBFSes all over the place

2006-04-02 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: openoffice.org2-soikko
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: serious

1) You only build-depend on openoffice.org-dev (= 2.0) which is not
enough. You need to build-depend on openoffice.org-dev (= 2.0.2)
because there the SDK wrapper scripts got added again. With earlier
versions you need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH which you don't do.
The -core builddep is not needed; obviously -dev depends on it.

2) You use gcc-3.3 without build-depending on it.

3) You use gcc-3.3 on a C++ file, which gcc notices and is
trying to use cc1plus (g++-3.3) which you don't build-depend on either.

4) You build with g++-3.3, you *sure* that it will work with the g++-4.0
built OOo and libstlport4.6? I doubt that.

Rene

Bug#360465: jack: misleading error message

2006-04-02 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: jack
Version: 3.1.1+cvs20050801-6
Severity: minor

Hi!

Jack *seems* (the emphasis is intentional: see below) to be unable
to use cdparanoia as a ripper.
With no ~/.jack3rc, if I try to start jack while having an audio CD
in my /dev/cdrom drive, I get the following error:

$ jack -Q
This is jack 3.1.1 (C)2004 Arne Zellentin [EMAIL PROTECTED]
*warning* You have no standard location set, putting files into the current
directory. Please consider setting base_dir in ~/.jack3rc.
*info* maybe cdparanoia is not installed?
*error* could not read CD's TOC.

But cdparanoia *is* installed:

$ dpkg -l cdparanoia
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii cdparanoia 3a9.8-11 An audio extraction tool for sampling CDs.

On the other hand, selecting cdda2wav as a ripper makes jack to work.

$ jack --ripper cdda2wav --save
This is jack 3.1.1 (C)2004 Arne Zellentin [EMAIL PROTECTED]
*warning* You have no standard location set, putting files into the current
directory. Please consider setting base_dir in ~/.jack3rc.
*info* 1 options saved in ~/.jack3rc
$ cat ~/.jack3rc
# jackrc-version:31
ripper:cdda2wav

And jack is now able to rip CDs (as long as I have cdda2wav installed,
of course).

I later noticed that cdparanoia is not able to run as non-root
out of the box (see bugs #317694 and #71237). After setting
appropriate permissions to /dev/sg0 (owner root.cdrom,
permissions 0660), it began to work with no errors.
And jack is able to use cdparanoia.
As a consequence, the problem I'm reporting is the following:
jack spits out a misleading error message, when cdparanoia fails
(jack claims that cdparanoia could be not installed, while cdparanoia
*is* installed, but simply exits with errors).

Note:
=
I experienced this awkward behavior on a pure sarge system
(with jack 3.1.1-2).
Then I noticed that many Debian BTS bugs are reported to be fixed in
more recent versions of jack; consequently I backported jack
3.1.1+cvs20050801-6 from sid to sarge and retried, but got the
same behavior.
In summary, this issue seems to be present
in both versions 3.1.1-2 and 3.1.1+cvs20050801-6.

Hi friend. Thank you for you fast response.

I'm really sorry that I can't help you with everything you're asking.
I've just formated my DVD-RW with the image I used. Answering you
questions:
1) I've got the DVD image from bittorrent and If I remeber correctly it's
the ISO that they release every week.
2) As far as I know... the kernel was not loaded. The installer reads the
DVD and crash with the info I sent you: INSTALLER KERNEL MISMATCH THE DVD
KERNEL. So, I didn't do much stuff... What I did was pretty much to
booted my PC, chose the language and the keyboard. Nothing else.
3) The image was Debian etch for AMD64 (last week release). It was NOT
i386.

I'll try, right now, the netinst of ETCH testing version (the one that
ISN'T released every week). If I get any bug I'll report you that.

I've also filled a template you guys ask to send with the BUG report, but
I think you just red my first Email. I Don't know if that can still help
you, but my PC config. is: Intel EM64T 3,06GHZ, 2 times 512 MB ddr2
533mhz, asus p5gd2-x, Geforce 6800GS, SATA 200GB 7200rpm, LG 4167b.

I'm really sorry that I formated my DVD before getting an answer from you,
but I didn't have any other DVD-RW to use. I'll also try to fill the
template correctly with my nest bug report to help you as much as
possible.

Anything else that I may help you don't hesitate to ask.
Alisson from brazil.

Bug#360472: unsafe upgrade

Package: openoffice.org2-soikko
Version: 1.0.1-1

Hi,

you install the component via a uno package system-wide using unopkg.
While this is the normal way this is to be done it doesn't reliably work
on OOo upgrades. At least with the Wikipedia plugin for OOo I somethimes
had to remove and register it again, otherwise I get errors.

We need a policy for extensions like that, maybe with deregistering all
plugins before a OOo upgrade and registering them again. But we need it,
and we don't have it yet...

Rene

don't have a openoffice.org*2* anywhere anymore (yes, even U* did that
now...)

You also can install into openoffice.org-soikko

Bug#360464: ifplugd: leaves file after upgraded from sarge and purged

2006-04-02 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: ifplugd
Version: 0.28-2

Hi, it's me, the friendly Debian package torturer again... :)

When I test the new version with piuparts, I get the following error:

1m49.2s ERROR: Package purging left files on system:
  /etc/hotplug.d
  /etc/hotplug.d/net
  /etc/hotplug.d/net/ifplugd.hotplug
owned by: ifplugd

This happens when installing the sarge version in a sarge chroot,
upgrading everything to etch, and then to sid, and then purging the
package. I didn't investigate to see what causes this. I'm attaching the
full piuparts log file, in the hopes that it helps debug things, sorry
about the size.

This package contains a binary that links against a library that is
not in the Depends line. This may also be a bug in the library which
does not have a shlibs file.

As you can see, the main description is slightly different but the
explanation is the same.

I can provide more debug output (which kind and detail level?), but I
guess you can verify yourself.

Bug#360467: torsmo: displays filesystem used portions uncorrectly

2006-04-02 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: torsmo
Version: 0.18-5
Severity: normal

Hi!
Torsmo seems to fail to correctly report filesystem used portions.

I have several lines similar to the following one in my ~/.torsmorc :

${color green}/home $color${fs_used /home}/${fs_size /home} ${fs_bar 6 /home}

Torsmo seems to disagree with df, as far as fs_used is concerned.
On my machine, the most apparent case is /dev/hdb2:

$ df --si /dev/hdb2
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdb2 17G 244M16G 2% /music
$ df -h /dev/hdb2
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdb2 16G 233M 15G 2% /music
$ df --block=1 /dev/hdb2
Filesystem 1B-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdb216264966144 243642368 15195095040 2% /music

while torsmo displays as:

/music1020M/15.15G (followed by the corresponding bar...)
 ^^^

I fail to understand this discrepancy.
What's going on?

Another strange thing is that du tells a third different story
(even though in much more close agreement with df):

# cd /music
# du --si -s ./
211M./

Bug#358648: FTBFS: 'alloc2' undeclared

2006-04-02 Thread Arnaud Fontaine
Hello,

This bug [0] is due to swig upgrade. Actually, pyme builds fine with
swig 1.3.28. In swig 1.3.28, there is a new option, namely 'match',
for typemaps.

I have attached the patch which fixes this bug. I have built and tested
pyme successfully using this patch. Could you please make an upgrade of
pyme for swig 1.3.28 ? Thanks a lot to Manuel Menal for his help for
tracking the bug.

Regards,
Arnaud Fontaine
