Bug#390413: singularity: Includes a non-free font

2006-10-01 Thread Kari Pahula
Package: singularity
Version: 0.22-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.1

singularity includes a font, Acknowledge, downloaded from
http://www.aenigmafonts.com/fonts/fontsa.html

The disclaimer/license on the web page says:

All of the Fonts on this site are made by me (Brian Kent), and all of
them are Freeware. You can use them any way you want to (Personal use,
Commercial use, or whatever).

If you have a Font related site and would like to offer my fonts on
your site, go right ahead. All I ask is that you keep the text file
included within each zipped file, intact with the Font.

You may not Sell or Distribute my Fonts for profit or alter the font
file(s) [.ttf .fon] in any way without asking me first. I can be
reached at aefonts[AT]frontiernet[DOT]net

Singularity's author only included the first paragraph in their README
file. The third paragraph fails the DFSG.

We're currently working on packaging a new version of singularity and
had to split the game data to a non-free/games package already since
upstream licensed the game data under CC-SA-2.5 sometime after 0.22.
Putting Acknowledge in that package will close this bug, too.

Bug#389658: EasyH10 Bugs

2006-10-01 Thread Benjamin Seidenberg
nyaochi wrote:
 Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for letting me know of this bug report.

I'd like to bring your attention to http://bugs.debian.org/389658 . It
reminds me of that issue you fixed for me in playlist creation where the
file buffer wasn't closed, but I couldn't find similar in the code
(though I don't know exactly where to look).
Me either. But I'd like to see how replacing libid3tag with taglib
 affects (described later).

Also, it was brought to my attention that although easyh10 builds
against zlib (as the readme and configure script require), no symbols
from zlib are actually used by the binary. Was this something that was
used in the past and has since been dropped?
Actually, libid3tag has a dependency to zlib library since ID3v2 allow
zlib compression for tag data. But I'm not sure who should take
 responsibility for resolving zlib:
 a) libid3tag automatically imports zlib symbols after EasyH10 imports
 libid3tag
 b) libid3tag does not import zlib symbols on its own and EasyH10 must
 resolve zlib symbols

I thought b) was the right answer, but the choice might be wrong.

Anyway, I'm going to replace libid3tag with taglib since libid3tag
can't seem to handle ID3v2 tag generated by MusicBrainz Picard:
 http://easyh10.sourceforge.net/forum/index.php?topic=121.msg790#msg790
I heard that more projects now use taglib instead of libid3tag or libid3.

The new code using taglib is ready in the CVS, but I can't access to
the CVS server now. I hope this will also sort out the bug reported in
 the bugtracker.

OK. I've built some test packages against the CVS. They're at
http://dlgeek.net/easyh10/ . Currently only amd64. Geoff, can you try
these out and see if they fix your issue? If you need 386 packages
built, let me know.

Nyaochi: I had some troubles dropping the dependency on libz. Do you
think you can look into this? Also, the etch freeze is in about a month.
It would be really nice if you could manage to get a release of the
easyh10 cui out before then so it can be in etch. Let me know if I can help.

Benjamin

Please add acpid to the LSB Should-Start line of gdm init.d script.
Otherwise, acpid may be launched after gdm, and this prevents X from

Bug#390416: compiz-core: missing dependency on libxcomposite1 = 1:0.3-1

2006-10-01 Thread Vincent Ho
Package: compiz-core

The compiz binary requires the symbol XCompositeGetOverlayWindow which
is not in libxcomposite1 as of 1:0.2.2.2-3. Upgrading libxcomposite1 to
1:0.3-1 fixed the problem. A versioned dependency seems appropriate.

Bug#390417: mpd --create-db fails with xmalloc assertion

2006-10-01 Thread Jonathan Wheelhouse
Package: mpd
Version: 0.12.0-1
Severity: important

Recent upgrade broke mpd; I let it default to start system wide.

However, when it tries to load the music (via a mpd --create-db) it
fails with the following:

added Classical/Vivaldi, Antonio (1678-1741)/Vivaldi (Musici San

mpd: /tmp/buildd/mpd-0.12.0/./src/utils.c:126: xmalloc: Assertion
`__builtin_expect (!!(size), 1)' failed.

It appears to work on some tracks as you can see but then fails.

These errors are reported in /var/log/mpd/errors.log as well.

This is the script I normally run to play the music; now, however,
there's nothing in the playlist since the upgrade.

Indeed, as it shows up in tasksel, it makes the Desktop environment
text disappear. As a consequence, it could be considered release
 critical.

Is someone working on it to, at least, try to understand where it
comes from. The bug log says nothing except an exchange where Attilio
is talking about the wrong bug.

I had a similar issue with single selection lists, on powerpc with a radeon.
This uses the radeon graphical driver, and removing said driver and using only
plain radeonfb made this problem go away.

I am thus not sure how this relates to the multi-selection lists, and if this
bug is related, just want to add my own datapoint.

Notice also that Attilio mentioned that the gtk 2.10 based debconf-gtk solves
this issue, but we should keep 2.8 because of the BOOM bug, which is since
then solved i think.

Friendly,

Sven Luther

Even more strange. Bug #316953 is at least consistent to -m

Sure but I have no other etch-box. All other is sid or sarge.

Perhaps you could try it anyway and we might learn something new.

This machine does not seem to be a machine set up with Etch installer.

Well, no, it was allways upgraded from older machines. And yes, I do
never ever use the debian kernel as I do compile it by myself. And for
stable machines I need a stable kernel, no developement version 2.6.x!

Well, the kernel is definitely no issue in this problem - it's just
the reason I based my suspection on that it was a continuosely upgrade
machine (as well as my problematic machine. The reason why I asked
is that we have to look for any locale upgrade probleme anywhere
between Sarge and Etch if we want tp track down this problem.

That might be possible. But then there is also a bug (maybe on another
place.)

My guess is that there is a bug *only* at another place. There is no
reason why the problem you reported should happyn only on *one* machine.
The fortune database is that simple that there is hardly room for
producing these errors. Ahh, BTW, could you please try the French

Bug#390304: Build-depends missing epochs make this FTBFS and fail to run with satisfied depends

2006-10-01 Thread Paul TBBle Hampson
retitle 390304 compiz: Bad build-depends causing FTBFS and bad depends
severity 390304 serious
Thankyou Mr Bug Control Robot

The compiz source upload doesn't have any epochs on the versions of
its build-depends, causing bugs like the one that triggered this
bug, and the FTBFS on the autobuilders that grabbed
libxcomposite-dev 1:0.2.2.2-3 to satisfy
libxcomposite-dev (= 0.3)
(ie all but AMD64, alpha and s390).

Build logs at http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?arch=pkg=compiz

In fact, it looks like
libxcomposite-dev (= 0.3), libxfixes-dev (= 4.0.1), libxdamage-dev
(= 1.0.3), libxrandr-dev (= 1.1.0.2), libxrender-dev (= 0.9.1),
libice-dev (= 1.0.1), libsm-dev (= 1.0.1)

in the build-depends should be

libxcomposite-dev (= 1:0.3), libxfixes-dev (= 1:4.0.1), libxdamage-dev
(= 1:1.0.3), libxrandr-dev (= 1:1.1.0.2), libxrender-dev (= 1:0.9.1),
libice-dev (= 1:1.0.1), libsm-dev (= 1:1.0.1)

although so far only libxcomposite-dev seems to have broken on this...

Bug#390424: gman: Manual page name should be included in xterm's icon name

2006-10-01 Thread Norbert Buchmuller
Package: gman
Version: 0.9.3-2.nix.1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

GMan currently sets xterm's icon name to 'GMan', which is not too
informative.. (Consider the user has half a dozen of these manual pages
open, most of them iconified.) I'd prefer if the name of the manual page
is included in the icon name as well (preferably at the beginning),
eg. 'perlfunc - GMan'.

I attached a patch that changes the xterm icon name to 'manpagename -
GMan' style.

Bug#390423: sysv-rc-bootsplash: Bashisms in prerm script make removal fail if /bin/sh is dash

2006-10-01 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: sysv-rc-bootsplash

Severity: important

This should probably be upgraded to serious:

Suppression de sysv-rc-bootsplash ...

My /bin/sh is pointing to /bin/dash which is very good to detect bashisms.

This seems to be a bashism in the prerm script. Changing the shebang line to
/bin/bash solves the issue.

 Sorry, I cannot resolve experimental.ftnfs.de.

I was an easy typo. s/ftnfs/ftbfs/.

Can you check whether it's the same issue as in 386053.
It was solved by an upload of autoconf.

According to the build log. The package was built with autoconf (2.60a-1),
which causes the FTBFS.

Wouter, can you try with autoconf 2.60a-3.

Bug#389772: e2fsprogs: e2fsck produces broken htree on ppc

2006-10-01 Thread Jörg Sommer
Hello Theodore,

Theodore Tso schrieb am Fri 29. Sep, 17:15 (-0400):
If the filesystem is empty (or at least no no hashtree directories),
then when the kernel creates new directories and expands to the point
where they become indexed, they will be indexed with the PPC variant
of the hash algorithm. This will be self consistent, and everything
will work fine --- until the filesystem gets corrupted to the point
where e2fsprogs needs to rebuild one or more hashed directories. At
that point the directories will be rebuilt using the same conventions
used by all other conventions, but the directories will no longer be
 useful on the PPC kernel.

 Joerg, can you confirm this?

Yes.

On a PPC machine, can you create a smallish ext3 filesystem (say, 4-8
megabytes), create a directory with enough files in it that it becomes
indexed (verify using lsattr), and show that it works just fine on a
 PPC.  Now take that image, and transfer it to an x86 machine;

I don't have a x86 machine.

you should find that the kernel can't look up any of the directories on
the x86 machine. If you then run e2fsck -fD on that filesystem
(running the e2fsck on either x86 or PPC; it shouldn't make a
difference), then the resulting filesystem should work just fine on the
x86, and fail on the PPC.

I put two files at http://www.minet.uni-jena.de/~joergs/ img-broken and
img-working. In the last image, img-working, I can access all files,
especially test/broken fürß. The first image, img-broken, is the
image after running e2fsck -Df on img-working. So you can test if one
of these images work on x86, especially if the file test/broken fürß
is accessable.

Bye, Jörg.

Bug#390432: Subject: linux-image-2.6.18-1-powerpc: patch to fix old world boot requires a g3, fails on earlier powermac/powerbook

2006-10-01 Thread Brian Morris

Package: linux-image-2.6.18-1-powerpc
Version: 2.6.18-1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I have been running etch with kernel 2.6.15-1 on this machine for six
weeks. i have
tried 4 or 5 different kernel packages released between 2.6.16-2 and
2.6.18-1, none
of which boot here. my powermac beige g3 has been able to boot exactly the
same disk and installation with an update to the initrd using
updateinitramfs or yaird.
that is i copied the powerbook disk with parted to a backup drive and
booted it with the new kernel from the powermac.

the changelog and also on the powerpc mailing lists has claimed that failure to
boot old world powermacs is fixed but looks here like it was only fixed for
the g3 and not earlier. there were at least two years or more before the g3 that
were working in sarge, and in etch up to 2.6.15. several others have reported
similar problems, some are building their own kernels but i have been focusing
on trying to work with the system you are providing.

i try and work with the mailing list but no one has been responding lately
so i am filing and official report. [ i am dismayed/appalled by the currently
outstanding some 716 kernel bugs listed as i ran reportbug today].

diagnostics: booting pb3400 with bootx, appears only the first line
Welcome to Linux...
and hangs. booting with quik, gets started but is unable to mount root. claims
unknown block(0,0). note - on g3 when i was missing modules i got
some informative
messages and dropped into busybox - but nothing whatsoever of the kind
happens here.
only panic - rebooting in 180 seconds. is there maybe something more than
just an initrd problem ?

i am also pretty upset that the 15 kernel the latest stock image that boots
my machine and others, has been deleted from the archives while the 18 series
is just released into unstable.

Hi,

11:20 lool joeyh: I'm just discovering #390392 now, I didn't get the mail
from the BTS (now), however I'm surprized you got this with
  0.10.5-4
11:20 lool joeyh: since 0.10.5-4 was uploaded to avoid exactly this: *
Move examples to the Debian location via dh_install as well.
11:21 lool joeyh: 0.10.5-4 switched to pysupport because it excludes
  /usr/share/doc from byte-compilation by default

On Sat, Sep 30, 2006, Joey Hess wrote:
I'm upgrading a system from the unstable of approximatly 10 months ago to
 current unstable.

Ok, now I understand why you get the warnings when upgrading: you
 probably upgraded python2.4-minimal before python-gst0.10.

 Setting up python2.4-minimal (2.4.3-8) ...
pycentral: pycentral rtinstall: package python-gst0.10: error byte-compiling
 files (14)

There are may problems at the root of your installation problem:
 1) examples with tabs
 2) examples get byte-compiled
 3) pycentral now insisting that the byte-compilation succeeds to install

I switched to python-support in an attempt to fix 2), in version
0.10.5-4, and it worked since python-support does not byte-compile the
 examples.
Sadly, this switch was very intrusive, and broke (probably under
other things), the runtime selection of GStreamer 0.8 versus 0.10
 (pygst.require('0.10')).

I just switched back to python-central, added a patch system, and
patched the examples, hence fixing 1).

I believe 3) remains to be fixed in pycentral, but I'm not interested
in producing a test case. IMO, pycentral introduced a regression when
we switched to 2.3 to 2.4 which was not foreseeable when python2.3 was
still the default, and which causes some packages to not be installable
 anymore.

I'm closing this bug with the first version which stopped
byte-compiling the examples, but I recommend you to use -5 as -4 has
 other RCs.

   Bye,

2006-10-01 Thread Matthew Astley
Package: perl

I would like to know whether you still get the segfault with recent

Thanks for your report. I was not able to reproduce it yet,
but perhaps you could help me here. Do you have any idea under
what circumstances this happens? Any observations may be

It doesn't seem to happen anymore. At least I can't find those errors in

Unfortunately, I cannot say when exactly it stopped happening.

Does it happen everytime you check your mails or only
occasionally? When it happens does it affect all mails or only
to some of them? Which ones?

You did file the bug against version 0.57-1 resp. reportbug did
this for you. Did you call reportbug on the machine running
the Spamassassin daemon spamd? If not, which version of libnet-dns-perl
 is running at that machine?

Yes, I used reportbug in the machine running spamd and the version was
0.57-1.

libnet-dns-perl version 0.59-1 just hit unstable. It would be nice to
know if this error happens with 0.59, too.

I'm tracking etch, and my version is still 0.57-1, so it must have been
some other package causing the problem.

 Florian

Bug#390441: release-notes: Document unclear Mozilla security situation

2006-10-01 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: release-notes
Severity: normal

Proposed text: (needs to be checked by a native speaker)
The Mozilla programs are important tools for many users. Unfortunately
their security policy is to urge users to update to new upstream
versions, which collides with the Debian way of backporting security
fixes to the stable version. During Etch lifetime the Debian Security
Team might come to a point, where supporting Mozilla products is no
longer feasible and announce the end of security support. You should
take this into account when deploying Mozilla and consider alternatives
inside Debian if that poses a problem to you.

Bug#390108: With the actual version only uncomplete fortunes are printed

2006-10-01 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hoi Andreas,

I think I found the Bug. It seems that with symlinks, dpkg-divert will
not work properly.

I have local diverted zitate and zitate.dat to remove all the Jean
Paul-zitats. However for the zitate file the diversion works. For the
symlink it dont.

To the bug itself. -m seems to do a simple grep in the text file itself.
Without the index is used.

So the severity can be lowered to normal for me. A solution is just play
attent for the diversions.

Bug#390440: amarok: HTTP streaming doesn't timeout, freezes on playlist track change, complains about input plugins

2006-10-01 Thread Adam Porter
Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.3-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Amarok consistently fails to work well with HTTP MP3 streams. If the server
stops sending data, Amarok does not timeout, it just sits there not playing any
more music.
For example, SmoothJazz.com. Their playlist file has several URLs for the same
stream. If one quits, Amarok should quickly move on to the next one. It
doesn't.

So, I go ahead and click the next track button, but instead of quickly doing
that, it freezes the GUI and does nothing for several seconds. Then it either
starts playing
the next stream, or it slides up a sheet that complains about not being able to
find an appropriate input plugin. Yet if I try again on another stream, it'll
work
fine...for a while. Then the same thing starts all over again.

After several hours of this, I loaded up the SmoothJazz.com playlist in XMMS,
and it's working great. If the stream drops out, I just double-click the next
one, and it
*instantly* plays it. No freezing, no complaints about input plugins even when
the input plugins are right there.

I know this doesn't give much concrete information, but it happens
consistently. It's been happening since Amarok 1.3.x, and I guess it's not
going to get fixed by itself.
:(

Bug#390437: Please include diagnostic dfbinfo tool

package: libdirectfb-0.9-25-udeb

Please, include dfbinfo tool (provided currently by libdirectfb-bin
regular deb) into package libdirectfb-0.9-25-udeb.
Denis Oliver Knopp explicitly suggested [1] inclusion of this tool into
the g-i; it will be very usuful at detecting (and fixing, hopefully)
input devices related issues which gave us many an headache recently.

Bug#390447: also run task confdir with dirinstall

Package: fai-client
Version: 3.0
Severity: Normal

At least the variable expansion from .var files should be run. Many
people depend on it, and fai is much different to use otherwise.

This is a bit connected to using a hostname parameter in dirinst,
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=390367) because
without running confdir at all, the hostname directive is not so much
useful ( at least as inteded in the other bugreport).

Bug#353629: edb -- Package available

2006-10-01 Thread Tatsuya Kinoshita
Hi, Jari and mentors,

On June 12, 2006 at 3:03PM +0300,
jari.aalto (at cante.net) wrote:

 Subject: edb -- Package available
 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Package available, needs sponsor:

   http://sponsors.debian.net/viewpkg.php?id=254

I've found, downloaded, and skimmed through your package. (Though
I'm not a user of edb.)

Some somments and patches:

* Build-Depends

debhelper and patch should be moved from Build-Depends-Indep to
Build-Depends because those packages are used at the clean target.

* Standards-Version

Current version is 3.7.2.

* duplicate-conffile

/etc/emacs/site-start.d/50edb.el is marked as conffile duplicately.
dh_installemacsen does enough job, so it should be removed from
`debian/conffiles'.

* copyright

You mentions `Added copyright holder' in changelog, but there is
no change.

* short description

The short description should not begin with an article.

See also Developer's Reference 6.2.2.

* long description

Please add a space to the beginning of `Homepage:'. (Two spaces
prepending the `Homepage:' line)

See also Developer's Reference 6.2.4.

* emacs-snapshot

Other version of GNU Emacs, emacs-snapshot, is available.

* emacsen-startup

To add the package directory to load-path, debian-pkg-add-load-path-item
should be used. See also
`/usr/share/doc/emacsen-common/debian-emacs-policy.gz'.

If the package is removed but not purged, the setup should be skipped.

* emacsen-install, emacsen-remove

If flavor is `emacs', don't display messages.

* emacsen-install

Add -q to not load user init files when byte-compiling.

Make *.el symlinks to find the source files from Emacs Help.

xemacs22 (not yet available) should be skipped.

I've created the attached patch for the above things.

Other things are:

* emacsen-install

It's better to use log file in emacsen-install to suppress
redundant messages.

Examples:
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/debian-el
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/devscripts-el

* new upstream version

As mentioned in bug#303785, new upstream version was released.
However, the upstream site
http://www.glug.org/people/ttn/software/edb/
seems no longer exist.

The announce of `EDB 1.27 available' was posted on July 13, 2006
at gnu-emacs-sources@gnu.org, but the file cannot be downloaded.

Though edb-1.25 is downloadable from gentoo mirrors, such as
http://gentoo.osuosl.org/distfiles/edb-1.25.tar.gz

Does anyone know the new upstream site?

* patch

This package uses the patch command directly. Please consider
migrating to the patch system, such as quilt or dpatch.

Thanks,

Bug#321832: Debian #321832: Applications linked to libpango1.0-0 SIGSEGV

2006-10-01 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/321832.

I think this bug is solved now. I believe this was due to Pango
rejecting fonts with an empty GPOS table, but this has been addressed.
Another user reported a crash in Xchat as well, but Xchat printed
 warnings before crashing.

Could you please confirm the bug is solved?

   Thanks,

Bug#359835: No kerning

2006-10-01 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/359835.

On Wed, Mar 29, 2006, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
I found that programs making use of this library (e.g. inkscape or
libpango1-ruby) render text without any kerning, e.g. when rendering

 not overlap, although they should.

I tried with recent pango and inkscape, font Arial, and saw the
kerning. However, I am not sure inkscape uses Pango for the rendering
in the drawing area. I tried with Gedit to use Arial, and saw no
 kerning.

Perhaps application need to turn it on explicitely?

I've now committed this patch too, with a few minor modifications:
- there were some changes in pkg-lists recently for powerpc (no more
  separate files for powerpc64);
- I've removed the subarch level in the config dir as ppc64 does
  not have any subarches.

Please check that the current setup in SVN works.

AFAIK patches from all bug reports requesting ppc64 support have now been
applied. Please let me know if we've forgotten something.

built. I was hoping this ITP meant there was another xorg-ready source
available somewhere, but it seems not. :)

I'd love to see this included in etch, but don't have much time to give to
that myself; I'd be happy at least to sponsor an upload for you if/when you
 have something ready.

There's a source tree for an xorg 7 version from Gentoo[0] which I have
initial packages based upon[1]. The source files are mostly the same as
the monolithic version, it's just the addition of auto* tools use and
paths to some headers which needed to change.

David Nusinow (CC'd) has offered to be sponsor the packages as part of
the XSF. My plan was to spend today getting them finished up and checked
in to the XSF svn tree. Unfortunately some recent changes in xorg have
broken what I had already so the final tidy up is taking a little longer
than I was expecting.

Ian.

[0] I'm not sure it's actually in Gentoo proper, but it is linked from
http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Howto:Gentoo

[1] A version from a few weeks ago is at
http://www.hellion.org.uk/ivtv/debian/ although they don't work with the
current unstable tree.

Bug#384904: Not fixed.

2006-10-01 Thread Robert Millan

Hi Uwe,

It seems it's not really fixed, unfortunately. I can play an flv file
(YouTube download) with xine and mplayer, but gnash simply segfaults
when invoked on the command line as 'gnash foo.flv'.

 Stack backtrace:
 (gdb) bt
 #0  0xb766aaeb in gnash::Player::run () from /usr/lib/libgnashplayer.so.0
 #1 0x0804a058 in ?? ()
 #2 0xb6e7eea8 in __libc_start_main () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6
 #3 0x08049791 in ?? ()

This backtrace is not useful. Please could you provide a backtrace with
debugging symbols or and strace run?

There's a bug in debian package that makes gnash segfault when foo.flv cannot be
opened, but this is fixed upstream.

Bug#390397: groff -Tascii broken: should not output ANSI escape sequences

2006-10-01 Thread Werner LEMBERG

 from groff-base 1.18.1.1-7 we have:
$ echo '.BR foo bar' |
2/dev/null groff -te -msafer -mtty-char -mm -Tascii |
  fgrep f | cat -v
^[[1mfoo^[[22mbar
 $

Apparently with groff-base 1.18.1.1-7, -Tascii is outputting ANSI
escape sequences, and this of course breaks all kinds of stuff (e.g.
this no longer works on dumb line printers and other devices that
perfectly well understand ^H, ^I, ^L and printable ASCII characters,
but know nothing of ANSI escape sequences; this similarly breaks
stuff passed to less or col -b, etc., generally resulting in quite a
 mess).

This is an old issue. groff 1.18 has been released 4 years ago!

This works fine on oldstable (woody) groff-base 1.17.2-15.woody.1 as
 seen here:
$ echo '.BR foo bar' |
2/dev/null groff -te -msafer -mtty-char -mm -Tascii |
  fgrep f | cat -v
f^Hfo^Hoo^Hobar
 $

If one wants ANSI escape sequences, perhaps there should be a
-Tansi, but please, -Tascii should continue to only generate
printable ASCII characters and well defined common ASCII control
codes (e.g. ^H, ^I, ^L), and should *not* generate ANSI escape
sequences, as the actions of these escape sequences are not defined
 in the ASCII character set.

I strongly disagree. To get bold characters with ^H was and is and
will be a hack. How do you come to the conclusion that embolding of a
character string with ^H is in any way standardized in ASCII? ^H is a
backspace, nothing else. AFAIK there is *no* standard which defines
this behaviour, whereas SGR is defined in ISO 6429 (and ECMA-48).

The solution to your problem is the very first item in groff's
`PROBLEMS' files. For your convenience, I'm pasting it below.

Werner

groff by default now uses SGR escape sequences (`ANSI color') to
control the display attributes (bold, underlined, colour) on TTYs.
Some terminals (e.g. `kterm') don't understand SGR, and some pagers
(e.g. older versions of `less' or `less' without the -R option) don't
understand SGR either. There are three solutions to fix this, in order
of preference; please read the grotty man page for more details.

The fourth and probably best option is to update your terminal program
and pager to versions which can handle SGR.

  1. Set the GROFF_NO_SGR environment variable.

  2. Pass option -c to grotty (this is, add `-P-c' to groff's command
 line options).

  3. Append the following fragment to the `troffrc' file:

--- start ---
.if n \{\

Bug#390459: sylpheed wants to deinstall sylpheed-i18n in sid

Bug#382914: more information

2006-10-01 Thread Christopher Cramer
OK, googling around I find that some versions of mount want pamconsole
in /etc/fstab, and some versions instead want user. Red Hat, who
originally developed usermode, uses the former version of mount, but
Debian uses the latter.

Since usermount doesn't actually do anything other than fork/exec
mount anyway, I think it ought to accept either, and let mount decide
whether the fstab options are really OK. In the worst case, usermount
will offer a device as mountable that is actually unmountable due to
someone putting the wrong option into fstab, which is harmless enough.

I'll do a patch.. should have it ready in a couple days.

Bug#390458: baz_load_dirs arbitrarily removed

2006-10-01 Thread Duck

Package: tla-load-dirs
Version: 1.0.31
Severity: grave

Coin,

baz_load_dirs was removed while it is still needed for users, without
any real reasons. Changelog states:
  * No longer build baz-load-dirs for Debian. bazaar is not migrating
into testing, and is preventing this package from entering.
As there is no urgency for the release, this is quite an absurd
decision. Moreover, bazaar has been fixed and reached testing on
2006-09-19.

Many people are using this script, some to manage their own packages, so
this a quite an annoying bug. You cannot take such decisions so lightly.

My already installed baz_load_dirs is totally unworkable, thus the
severity.

Package: dbmail-pgsql

dbmail-pgsql still depends on libpq3 and build-depends on
postgresql-dev. As announced ages ago [1], packages should build-dep
on libpq-dev and use libpq4.

I am going to remove libpq3 from the postgresql-7.4 source package
now, since dbmail-pgsql is the only package that still depends on it
and is not even in testing any more.

I make this bug serious to prevent it from going into testing with the
broken dependencies.

Thank you,

Bug#390457: adduser: deluser --system should be configurable to not delete the account

2006-10-01 Thread Marc Haber
Package: adduser
Version: 3.97
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'd like to see deluser --system having a configuration option which
would prevent an account from actually being deleted. That way, a
local administrator could make sure that UIDs are not being re-used.

If this option is enabled, deluser --system would set the shell to
/bin/false and invalidate the password (I am not sure whether the
password should be destroyed or invalidated in a reversible way).

The default would, of course, be current behavior with actually
deleting the account.

Greetings
Marc

Drupal is currently orphaned and two major releases behind upstream.
It is regularly subject to vulnerabilities being actively exploited.

I've seen that there has been some interest in adopting it in June,

The current state shouldn't ship with Etch in any case, that would
be irresponsible.

that's pretty low priority. I just checked the POSIX spec, and POSIX
also says that an Index: line is required if you want diff -rN
 output to work.
[...]

Hello,
Is there a way to make diff generate output which patch can understand,
i.e. including the Index: lines?

I just wanted to transfer differences between two filetrees from
machineA to machineB. I wanted to minimze bandwith consumption by
using
diff -rN --ed treeA treeB
or
diff -rN --rcs treeA treeB
to generate the patch. However neither of these is usable as input for
patch.

Afaiu this bugreport the only thing that would have worked is a
context diff, which would have been two times the size.

Bug#382628: debian-installer: Please support the native ppc64 port

I've now committed this patch too, with a few minor modifications:
 - there were some changes in pkg-lists recently for powerpc (no more
   separate files for powerpc64);
 - I've removed the subarch level in the config dir as ppc64 does
   not have any subarches.

Please check that the current setup in SVN works.

AFAIK patches from all bug reports requesting ppc64 support have now been
applied. Please let me know if we've forgotten something.

Notice that cdrom64 and netboot64 have gone away (patch from me, commited by
Colin Watson), and the powerpc64 flavours are now building from the main
netboot/cdrom config options, but i guess you noticed that, and applied the
patches from Andreas to the cdrom/netboot dirs.

Friendly,

Sven Luther
