Bug#397469: #397469 was a bug in python-adns

2006-11-16 Thread Yavor Doganov
It seems that this was a bug in python-adns, since today 1.1.0-2 entered
testing and straw behaves as expected (without your patch). I'm so
sorry that I didn't test it with python-adns from unstable.

Perhaps the maintainer should revert this NMU with the next upload, I
don't know whether Tuukka's patch is harmless.

As you don't intend to invest anymore time into
gecko-sharp (which is understandable), please request the removal of the
package. I already discussed it briefly with you and you agreed on this.
As we are nearing the etch release, this would mean two RC bugs less.

I asked RM already and RC bugs of packages that are not in testing or
tagged sid-only are not considered for the etch release.
I will file the removal request, don't worry, but it usually takes
anyhow months till they are processed ;)

Hi Olivier,

Ok, I've now finished the etch i386 install and have tested. I can
confirm the issue and attach a backtrace (so no need for you to do this
- but thanks a lot for your willingness to help!).

The backtrace indicated to me that this is the same as
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=379938. So I installed
the libfribidi0 package, and indeed the issue went away.

If you could therefore install the libfribidi0 package as well and let
me know how that affects things, that would be really great.

Thanks a lot best regards,
Andree

I've done some testing and verified that 2.6.18 honors uid= and 2.6.8
does not. It looks like this was fixed upstream:

So, I plan to use this patch for 2.6.8, and attempt to backport it to
2.4.27. If backporting becomes overly complicated/risky, I'll revert
to using something like Horms' patch. I'll also see about getting a
 CVE assigned.

 Everyone cool with this plan?

Ok.

My first analysis is to suggest moving wwwconfig-common to
 Pre-Depends.

Pre-Depends are not guaranteed to be installed at purge time, only essential
packages are. This cleanup needs to either happen in the postrm remove
target instead of in the purge target, or it needs to be done conditionally
on purge, depending on the nature of the clean-up.

I looked at the libxml code and found that the error occurs because

Bug#385950: libpam-ldap: Broken regexp in postinst script

2006-11-16 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

On Thursday 16 November 2006 00:02, you wrote:

I believe this is wrong.

In this debconf prompt, the user is asked for a server and is specifying a
 URI instead.

There was no debconf prompt, maybe because I installed it with live-package
which (I think, not confirmed) sets DEBCONF_FRONTEND to non-interactive.

But I was definitly not prompted for anything ;)

I don't think this is RC -- the failure mode is ungraceful in
the extreme, but it happens as a result of user error

No user input, no user error.

It allowed me to do a complete automatic install.

I'm curious if it still works.

Where in the recipe do you choose the disc?

Bug#398542: trivial patch to safeguard postrm and fix bug #398542

I was thinking to change the dependencies to add update-inetd there.
postinst also uses update-inetd, and it's weird to have to change
inetd.conf every time by the user I think.

Bug#398853: fortunes installed in wrong directory?

Which fortune version are you using? Older versions of fortune
were not internationalized, but current ones are and are looking into
subdirectories.

Guess at the reason:
the fortune-files are placed in /usr/share/games/fortunes/de/
copying them into /usr/share/games/fortunes/ resolves the error;
fortune starts to crank out german fortunes.

How did you managed to send a bug report without the dependencies
with versions on your machine? Didn't you used reportbug?

Kind regards

Bug#395306: Dovecot with inotify support

2006-11-16 Thread Fabio Tranchitella
Hello,
quick follow-up for your bugreport: linux-kernel-headers is build-essential,
so there is no need to build-depends on it, but inotify support is only in glbc
2.4, and this version is in experimental actually. For this reason, inotify
support in dovecot will be available only for etch+1.

Thanks,

Bug#398886: argus: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation

2006-11-16 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: argus
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, please remember about the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. See
its man page for details.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when
you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates
changes (EVEN TYPO CORRECTIONS). Then leave about one week for them to
update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which
requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#319638: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the trn4 package

2006-11-16 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Colin Watson ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
On Wed, Nov 15, 2006 at 07:53:22AM +0100, Christian Perrier wrote:
Dear maintainer of trn4 and Debian translators,

On 08 nov 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the trn4 Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS (bug #319638).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer did not respond in a week so I will proceed with the
  NMU.

Urgh, I missed the earlier mail. I have all this checked into my
Subversion repository already, and it would be less confusing for me to
resolve later if I just uploaded what I've got.

Colin, is your SVN repository accessible ? It's quite likely that,
after this call, I'll get a few updates which would be better directly
committed.

The changelog I had up to now was:

  * Non-maintainer upload to fix longstanding l10n issues.
  * Turn trn4/whoami-change debconf note into an error type
(closes: #388975)
  * Debconf translation updates:
- Czech added (closes: #319638)
- Swedish added (closes: #330441)

So, either you upload now, but translators updates are likely to need
being redirected to the BTS...or you wait for 7 days until the
deadline finishes, with me committing the new updates and giving you a
GO when everything is ready.

If that fixes things, the template either needs a name change or the
manual needs an update.

The Shorts are out! The Gap is Good! Take advantage!

RREF has been on a steady rise for a week with HUGE volume. Now the

It's $0.215, and will climb hard back to $0.40 by early next week.
Don't be the one that missed out be the one who rakes it in next

There was no debconf prompt, maybe because I installed it with live-package
which (I think, not confirmed) sets DEBCONF_FRONTEND to non-interactive.

But I was definitly not prompted for anything ;)

This is a shared debconf string, shared/ldapns/ldap-server, so you might
have been asked at another place for it - the default is 127.0.0.1 in
this package. If you however install libnss-ldap first, then this
defaults to ldap://127.0.0.1/. In summary, the installation could fail
without any user input, which is RC.

2006-11-16 Thread Paul Seelig
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Unfortunately, i have no use anymore for this package and therefore won't
keep maintaining it. A new maintainer is needed, preferably with an
Ethiopian language background, if at all possible.

Maybe it would even be better to completely remove the package from the
Debian archive. It is already included in the upstream source tar ball for
texlive which is also part of the Debian archive.

Thanks!

Bug#396985: Please add support for automake 1.10

2006-11-16 Thread Fathi Boudra
 Unfortunately debian/patches/07_support_automake1-10_in_template.diff
does not patch kapptemplate/admin/cvs.sh but rather admin/cvs.sh. So
 /usr/share/apps/kapptemplate/admin/cvs.sh is still not fixed.
I guess, the problem is, that cdbs runs patch with -p1 before -p0, so it
patches the wrong file. Checking the buildd logs seems to verify this
 assumption.

confirmed and fixed in pkg-kde svn. it will be closed in next upload.

cheers,

Fathi

Your last commit seems to have broken the gtk frontend. I get an error
code 141 in localechooser before the language list is shown. The frontend
gets restarted.
Strangely enough if I boot with priority=medium and skip localechooser,
kbd-chooser works correctly.

I built a miniiso with cdebconf-gtk-udeb from svn, booted it from qemu
with priority=low and proceeded with ENTER (choosing italian as
language and italy as country) up to installation completion, but could
not crash the frontend.

Could you please provide more informations about how to reproduce the bug?

I've done some testing and verified that 2.6.18 honors uid= and 2.6.8

So, I plan to use this patch for 2.6.8, and attempt to backport it to
2.4.27. If backporting becomes overly complicated/risky, I'll revert
to using something like Horms' patch. I'll also see about getting a
 CVE assigned.

 Everyone cool with this plan?

I am a bit concerned by the comment in the link you posted:

To fully work, some modifications are needed to samba smbmount.c and
smbmnt.c files. Those patches are available at Samba and Kernel Bug

After those patches, if the user do not supply any of the parameters a

But I was definitly not prompted for anything ;)

I don't think this is RC -- the failure mode is ungraceful in
the extreme, but it happens as a result of user error

No user input, no user error.

Then where did this value of https://127.0.0.1/ come from? It's not a
default in the package.

The dependency on netbase dates to sarge or before, when update-inetd was
part of this package. Going forward, it's correct to depend on update-inetd
if you invoke update-inetd, AIUI.

Bug#398891: sendmail: SMTP AUTH as client fails if using libnss-ldap, sasl init problem

2006-11-16 Thread Moritz Both
Package: sendmail
Version: 8.13.4-3sarge3
Severity: important
Tags: patch

If using libnss-ldap, and not using nscd, the libc will invoke
libnss-ldap on every call to getpwnam and such.

libnss-ldap will initialize sasl as a client by calling

  sasl_client_init()

On its first invokation, sasl_client_init() stores a list of global
callback functions for later usage. Since libnss-ldap is clever, it
will not provide any global callback functions; instead it provides
them later, on a per-session basis, when sasl_client_new() is called.

Later, sendmail wants to authenticate. It calls sasl_client_init()
itself and tries to register global callback functions. Since
sasl is already initialized, it ignores the callback function list
and returns OK.

When sendmail calls sasl_client_new(), it fails to provide the list
of callback function, assuming sasl will use the global ones.

This makes SMTP AUTH as client fail. Unfortunately the mail.log only
says

Nov 16 00:24:19 localhost sm-mta[9890]: kAEFnQqh004922: AUTH=client,
available mechanisms do not fulfill requirements

which is very confusing.

This can be seen as a sasl bug, but there is a very simple fix for
sendmail: Dont rely on the global callback function list,
provide the list again on session initialization time. However,
there is a (fixed) bug for libsasl2 where I added a comment on
this, too (#274087).

The simple patch is included. Thanks.
Moritz

Bug#398895: k3b consumes percent CPU time and all the memory since last upgrade

2006-11-16 Thread MrB
Package: k3b
Version: 0.12.17-3
Severity: important

Since the last upgrade k3b consumes 100 percent CPU and eats up all
memory when starting an action like Burn Image.
This behavior is since the last run of the setup wizard. I started it
because every burning action failed. I've seen in the setup dialog that
the version number of wodim changed. Since that time k3b is a resource
hog.

Bug#398893: open_basedir doesn't allow to go 'back' to my basedir

2006-11-16 Thread Evgeni Golov
Package: libapache2-mod-php5
Version: 5.1.6-5

I have an apache2 with php5 running (packages from Etch).
I use open_basedir /path/to/scripts/ in my configfile. When I try to do
an is_dir('/path/to/scripts/blah/..') I get an:

open_basedir restriction in effect. File (/path/to/scripts/blah/..) is
not within the allowed path (s): (/path/to/scripts/)

But '/path/to/scripts/blah/..' is '/path/to/scripts/' and it IS the
basedir.
When I change open_basedir to /path/to/scripts (without the / at the
end), the is_dir() works like it should.

Is this a correct behavior and I'm missing some important infrmation
about the work of open_basedir or is this a bug?

kind regards
Evgeni Golov

LSB 2 is obsolete too, so I would recommend removing lsb-appchk2 as well.

instead of inch or foot. And no LC_CTYPE means you can't have accents in
the terminals.

One choice I see is to change /etc/R/Renviron to

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ grep PAPERSIZE /etc/R/Renviron
## Default printer paper size: first record if user set R_PAPERSIZE
R_PAPERSIZE_USER=${R_PAPERSIZE_USER-'letter'}
R_PAPERSIZE=${R_PAPERSIZE-'letter'}
where the first 'letter' is filled in at configuration time. That way it is
still overrideable:

Why not R_PAPERSIZE_USER=${R_PAPERSIZE-'letter'}
? ('letter' is also filled in at configuration time here)
This way the user can set R_PAPERSIZE instead of R_PAPERSIZE_USER to
override the setting, which is closer to the upstream documented behavior.

Is that ok by you?

Your solution is ok, my solution is ok, doing nothing is ok.

Bug#281057: Ping!

2006-11-16 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Ping! ...

It was 2 years ago that I posted this bugreport, including:
 - detailed description of what to do for the bug to occur,
 - detailed explanation where and why the source is buggy,
 - patch to fix the problem.

Just a note I haven't mentioned before: this patch has already survived 2
years of intensive testing, since we're using dpkg with this patch to build
up and upgrade chroot systems where all the packages of a Linux distribution
are being built, and the packages that form these chroot jails are
continuously updated to newer or fixed versions. My estimate is that we've
upgraded the chroot using dpkg with this patch approximately 50.000 times in
these 2 years -- successfully, as opposed to the times when we used an
unpatched dpkg and had serious OOM troubles when upgrading e.g.
kernel-headers inside the chroot after a kernel version bump.

During these 2 years no valuable comments arrived from any Debian/Dpkg
developers. I wonder why... Isn't there anyone caring about this bug? (Is
there anyone caring about Dpkg at all?) Or you simply lack developer
resources? (Well, that could be an excuse for an unreproducible bug report
or a bug report without a patch, but I feel I've done everything anyone
could have done to locate and fix this bug; all you have to do is verify it
and then apply the patch.)

Or what else is happening behind the scenes?

If you check the bug archives of Debian, you'll see that I already posted
several bug reports and patches (well, not very much, maybe a dozen) and
some of them were successfully applied, making Debian a slightly better
distro. Unfortunately this is not my first bugreport where I have to wait
years for anyone to move his fingers. If you continue developing with this
approach, all you'll reach is that I'm going to fix these bugs for myself
and not send any feedback at all. It's not worth it for me to spend my time
explaining the story if noone's listening to me. Is this what you want? I
hope not...

Ian Murdock writes...

LSB 2 is obsolete too, so I would recommend removing lsb-appchk2 as well.
All users should be targeting LSB 3.

You are right that the v3 tools should be the recommended ones.
But I can still see a need to be able to test LSB 2 compliance:

* for use when targeting older releases of distros that only have LSB 2
compliance (or as a common denominator when targeting multiple)
* for comparison with LSB 3 when evaluating apps
* to be able to test (historic) claims of LSB 2 compliance (similar
argument to putting things in oldlibs)

I think maybe the policy should be to support N and N-1 for these tools. For
LSB runtime support we may want to support as many versions as is easily
possible. I think LSB 1.x stuff should still work, although I don't know if
anyone has run the 1.x tests in a really long time.

Bug#398901: pkg-config: pkg.m4: PKG_CONFIG_PATH should be marked as precious

2006-11-16 Thread Gabor Gombas
Package: pkg-config
Version: 0.21-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

/usr/share/aclocal/pkg.m4 should mark the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment
variable as 'precious'. Rationale: if the same library is installed at
multiple locations (say, a normal version in a system location and a
devalopment version under my home directory), and during the build of
some software using such a library automake re-runs configure (because
e.g. configure.ac was changed) with a different PKG_CONFIG_PATH (because
e.g. I'm working in a different window), then I'm suddenly using the
wrong version of the library and I get all kinds of misterious failures.

Therefore PKG_CONFIG_PATH (and maybe PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR) should be marked
as precious by using AC_ARG_VAR(), just like it is done for PKG_CONFIG.

Bug#398898: lintian: zero-byte-file-in-doc-directory bogus complain on files in examples

2006-11-16 Thread Shachar Shemesh
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.25
Severity: normal

Rsyncrypto is a package that performs rsync friendly encryption. The
package comes bundled with a tests directory, that gets installed into
/usr/share/doc/rsyncrypto/examples/tests. This directory contains known
plain texts, cipher texts and keys so that regression testing and
comparisons can be run.

Some of the files in said directory are records of when the internal
decision function decided to perform an IV reset. For some of the
regression testing files (reg1 and reg2), this file is empty.

When running version 0.18-1 (the version that introduced the tests
direcotry under examples) through lintian, I get the complaint:
O: rsyncrypto: zero-byte-file-in-doc-directory
usr/share/doc/rsyncrypto/examples/tests/reg1.rot
O: rsyncrypto: zero-byte-file-in-doc-directory
usr/share/doc/rsyncrypto/examples/tests/reg2.rot

(as you can see, I did an override). I believe that the override is
unnecessary, and the files under /usr/share/doc/*/examples should not be
checked for non-emptyness.

Bug#391460: Hangs for ~3 min when starting up oocalc

2006-11-16 Thread H C Pumphrey
The symptoms described happen for me too (Toshiba T9000 laptop running
up-to-date testing). But they are annoyingly hard to reproduce reliably. It
just happened, but when I closed OOo down and re-started it, it opened the
file in a few seconds. I tried logging out and in: still only took a few
seconds. I tried re-booting. Still only a few seconds. So I really don't know
what triggers the 3-minute wait. But it is really annoying when it happens.

I am not running the quick-launcher, if that is of any significance.

Hugh

Bug#398874: RM: lsbappchk -- RoM; superseded by lsb-appchk2 and lsb-appchk3 and obsolete

2006-11-16 Thread Matt Taggart

Ian Murdock writes...

That's fine, but the only distro I see anyone targeting anymore in the
list of LSB 2.0 certified distros is SLES 9, and that's LSB 3.0 certified
 as well.

I was thinking of application developers that might want to build applications
that would work on things as old as RHEL 3 when I wrote that, but checking the
certifications at

http://www.freestandards.org/cert/certified.php

it looks like we'd have to support back to LSB 1.3 in order to cover that :(
There are a couple of 2.0 certs in there, but since 2.0 was so short lived not
too many I guess.

Furthermore, the rest (Linpus, Mandriva, Sun Wah) are about to LSB
 3.1 certify new versions.

Yeah, application developers who only care to support the very latest versions
of distros can just target 3.1.

That, and the fact that LSB 2 is not compatible with LSB 3

They had different ABIs but a system could support both at the same time right?
I thought the whole point of a major version of the LSB is so you could break
the ABIs when needed (mainly when upstream does) and a runtime system could
support both ABIs at the same time by delivering both sets of libs. This would
allow application developers and users time to gradually transition. This is
particularly true in big Linux shops with bunches of applications, all their
apps won't be on the new version of the LSB right away. If people try hard and
there are good roadmaps, hopefully everyone moves around the same time, but
it's impossible to get _everything_ to line up perfectly, there are just too
many variables.

Maybe you mean LSB 2 applications are not compatible with LSB 3 runtimes (we
know that to be true with libstdc++ in particular, and probably other cases).

If the ABIs _are_ compatible going forward then they can just be minor LSB
versions right? Wouldn't that imply that LSB major revisions are _only_ for
ABI breaks? Unless maybe major revisions are also for marketing reasons?

If upstreams are good about versioning their libraries, you could probably
transition from one version to the next by just adding the new versioned
library (I can't remember how the LSB feels about that, maybe only at major
versions?). To deprecate the old version you'd need an LSB major version I
think.

(whereas LSB 3 and higher will be backward compatible),

I don't understand what this means. Are you saying newer LSB applications will
be able to run on older LSB runtimes? If so how would that work?

leads us to strongly discourage anyone from targeting LSB 2.

Sure. But I don't want to pull the rug out on the older versions yet either.
LSB 1.3 is old enough that I felt OK asking for the 1.x lsbappchk to be
removed from the archive, but IMO 2.0 isn't quite old enough yet.

Bug#193792: linuxdoc stops processing sect[1-x] at the end of line

 Hi,
linuxdoc stops the processing of sect[1-x] at the end of the line
without checking if there is something following in the next line.
It also ignores the explicit use of /sect1 end tags.
This results in a broken TOC.

You can find a discussion about this bug in the LyX bugzilla:
 http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2722

This was one of the historical nasty bugs I had when maintaining the
spanish TeX FAQ (still linuxdoc). I have looked at linuxdoc-tools in debug
mode with file

-- test-longlines.sgml ---
!doctype linuxdoc system
article
titleTITLE/title
authorAUTHOR/author
dateDATE/date
abstractABSTRACT/abstract
toc
sectFirst Section
sect1Just added a new long subsection to the template to show where
the html translator stops too soon. \n is put here to see if it is skipped by
the fix.
/article
-- End of file ---

and noticed that nsgmls output for the relevant line looks like

(HEADING
-Just added a new long subsection to the template to show where\nthe html
translator stops too soon. \\n is put here to see if it is skipped by the
fix.
)HEADING

with everything not HEADING in one line. Note the spurious \n that confuses
html creation.

I have prepared a possible NMU that modifies fmt_html.pl so that
$html-{preASP} takes care of that for \n not part of \\n. I also compacted
that function and added more error generation info to nsmls call from
LinuxDocTools.pm. It also adds texlive alternative dependencies. Everything
seems to work well at my site, but further testing is of course welcome.

I have put packages at

  http://corbu.aq.upm.es/~agmartin/linux/store/debian-linuxdoc-tools/

and sarge backports at

  http://people.debian.org/~agmartin/debian-store/misc/

(sources at sources subdir)

Patch is attached,

You now include /etc/default/nagios-nrpe-server whereas previously you
included /etc/default/nagios-nrpe. This breaks all existing
configurations that already are using /etc/default/nagios-nrpe. Not
 nice :(

ah, crap. i previously there was a /etc/default hook there but none
provided by the package, so i thought to myself who could be using
this?. clearly people *are* using it, so i'll modify the script to
source both, with the original taking precedence (going last) over the
new one, so that default options don't override settings already there.

feel free to file a bug on this in the meantime (i'd appreciate if you
quoted this message to keep my memory fresh about what i want to do)

He has netwinders, cats, etc machines available. All of them are arm

then the local .llgal/llgalrc. But in case of -R, the local
.llgal/llgalrc file is only taken in account when generating the _local_
gallery. It means that the llgalrc at the root of your gallery tree will
_not_ be read when generating galleries in subdirectories. So, in your
case, llgal uses --php in the root directory, but not in the subdirs. I
think it explains the whole mess you're seeing.

I have thought several times about whether I should read the root
llgalrc or not when generating galleries in subdirs. Because of some
other problems, I came to the conclusion that it's better to not read it
and just let the user pass --config (this one will be read for all
gallery generations). In your case, I think you should rename
.llgal/llgalrc to something non standard like .llgal/my_root_llgalrc and
add --config .llgal/my_root_llgalrc to your llgal command-line.

I know that it would be easier to not have to remember to pass this
option everytime you regenerate the gallery. But, I think it is more
flexible this way. Note that you should get used to check the HTML
headers in the index file to find oud how the gallery got generated
previously. This way, you'll remember to pass --config foo again:
meta name=generator content=llgal --config foo /

I will try to improve the documentation to explain all this.

how could these options be changed midway in a recursive llgal run?

When I enter a subdirectory, I take the config from systemuser back,
then the local llgalrc (not the root one), and then the ones passed with
--config.

there's another petty thing that I'd like to bug you with: my images are
800x600 (preprocessed), and that's the size they are supposed to be in
on the slides. The slides produced look perfect - the thing I don't
like, though, is that there's still a link on the image saying Click to
see full size... - which is simply not true, the image is already full
 size and the link redundant.

So, do you think it's a reasonable request to have llgal omit that link
and tooltip in case the slide uses the original image already and not
 .llgal/scaled_xyz.jpg?

Right now, llgal only creates a link from the slide do the original
image when --sx or --sy got passed. If the original image is smaller
than the dimensions passed to --sx and/or --sy, then no resizing is
done, the original is kept and used both in the slide and as the target
of the link. Yes, it could make sense to not link at all in this case, I
will think about it.
But, if your images are already resized to 800x600, why do you need to
pass --sx/--sy then? If you don't pass any of these options, you should
get a slide without any link.

Thanks,
Brice

Bug#398771: installing mailman with python 2.3 causes loop condition during python upgrade

2006-11-16 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
severity 398771 serious
thanks

This bug, in my opinion, makes the package unsuitable for release with
etch. It breaks upgrades from sarge to etch, if I understand well.

There is probably verbiage in the policy / RC policy to support that,
but I'm too lazy to dig it out.

That file usually is a symlink to /etc/mailman/mm_cfg.py, a
configuration file. I'm not terribly convinced it should be compiled
at all, actually. It is a bug for it to be compiled unless it is
*automatically* read from source when the source is newer than the
compiled version. Any python expert could tell me whether it is the
case?

Alex, you did have the file /etc/mailman/mm_cfg.py, right?

I think the failing postinst is because the postinst script does only
 contain:
   #!/bin/sh -e
   . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
nothing more. And I assume this returns something != 0 no matter what
 debconf frontend is used.

No, the postinst is fine; the failure is in the config script which it
calls, whose error exit propagates to the postinst.

An exit code of 30 happens if the message isn't displayed to the user.
Since the input happens at critical priority in debconf, the obvious
explanation would have been that you were using the non-interactive
frontend. The config script is buggy anyway, since the question will only
be displayed /once/, and db_input will be called /twice/ during an apt
upgrade... I just don't understand why the pre-configuration also failed in
your log.

Hm, if the call to /usr/share/debconf/confmodule in postinst exits 30
because gradm/deprecated isn't (yet) displayed to the user, i'm quite
sure it does the same in config, where the script then is immediately
aborted due to -e - so it never reaches the db_input line, not to
mention db_go :)

flpsed generates postscript with references to an unknown font
'HelveticaNeue-Roman'. It should be just 'Helvetica'. I've already

No, it exits because db_input is supposed to *display* it to the user as
necessary, and the return value informs the caller whether this is actually
done -- in the general case you get a 30 return /after/ it's been shown to
the user, since the first time it's called is normally when it does get

Bug#398874: RM: lsbappchk -- RoM; superseded by lsb-appchk2 and lsb-appchk3 and obsolete

On 11/16/06, Matt Taggart [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Yeah, application developers who only care to support the very latest versions

They can target LSB 3.0 as well and work on 3.1.
