Bug#429548: Broken text/plain alternatives to text/html messages (notably from hotmail) end up in the void and breaks BTS database

Bug#374792: Stuck with patching of testing
This issue is putting me in a position where I am unable to keep my system up-to-date on testing, because libc is now dependent on a 2.6 kernel (and pretty much every newly released package now depends on that libc). Could someone tell me - which is the last released 2.6 kernel that had proper support for this controller, and whether there are any major problems/incompatibilities with that kernel that I should be aware of? If there is one, then I can at least install and pin it to continue normal system updates. - if I patch the current megaraid.c driver to recognize the controller's PCI IDs, are there any problems I can expect? I noticed that such a change was in the -mm series for a while, but google couldn't tell me why it was taken out. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#428784: opustex: wrong dependencies for etch
Frank Küster a écrit : severity 428784 important Elie Roux [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: opustex Version: 0.84-5.1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable opustex depends on tetex-bin and tetex-extra, but texlive is used since etch. First of all, etch has both teTeX and TeXlive, so there is no problem in stable. In unstable, teTeX has dissappeared, and the tetex-* packages are only transitional packages for at users. They are not meant for other packages to depend on, and they do not guarantee any defined functionality in the technical (Depends:) sense. Therefore there is actually a bug in opustex, but I think it's only important. Elie, which problems did you encounter which would make the package unusable? I have a default etch installation, and aptitude refuses to install opustex, as I have not the tetex packages it depends on... Why is the old version still used instead of the latest (which is very old too)? Does the licence allow to patch OpusTeX? No, it is nonfree and may not be changed - what was your intention? Someone has given me some patches to improve OpusTeX a lot... but I don't think they can be used... Maybe we should discuss whether OpusTeX should better be dropped from Debian: - it claims to be a beta version and has not seen any upstream development in the last nine years. And the developer does not answer mails, and doesn't want to make his work free... - there are other macro packages to typeset music with TeX available in Debian (musictex and musixtex in texlive-music) as well as frontends which are able to use TeX (lilypond). You're right, but OpusTeX is mostly used to typeset gregorian chant, fot which it is really the best macro package, even if it has a lot of defaults. - there are more macro packages to typeset music with TeX which are not yet available in Debian, but will probably be included in future versions of texlive (at least those which are free). I'm building my own gregorian chant TeX package (for Omega in fact...), but it is not finished yet (http://home.gna.org/gregorio/), I hope it will be finished in september. - it is nonfree - according to popcon, it has 26 installations which gives it rank 20849, which is already in the area where about 50% of the packages are not in sid, i.e. obsolete, and it has 8 votes (i.e. 8 users who participate in popcon have actually used it) - Anthony hasn't been very active as a maintainer I think OpusTeX should not be dropped now from Debian, it would be better to wait for another gregorian chant typesetting system (Lilypond and MusiXTeX are really bad for gregorian chant). Could you also tell us which versions you now have installed, including xserver-xorg 1:7.1.0-16 ... OK, you're using the stable etch versions. One possibility is that the matter got addressed and fixed in the following versions that we're now testing in unstable. I've reproduced the xfd box size difference, but let's try for reproduction of the latin sample difference. Another two screenshots contain text samples made by Dejavu and Arial fonts. The upper sample is produced using 8-bit font encoding (iso8859-1 for dejavu and koi8-r for arial - it contains some cyrillic). The problem is that the samples look differently, which is unacceptable in my view. I've also attached magnified samples for which the differences are highlighted by thing red strokes. OK, that illustrates the problem well. Let's focus on reproducing the dejavu sample difference you've shown here. Can you describe precisely how you generated these dejavu samples? Alternatively, I can generate text samples from gfontview using both gfontview and LANG=en_AU gfontview (my default locale is UTF-8, so I expect the former to be using the iso10646-1 version of the font, while the latter should be using iso8859-1. ). I select the dejavu font, enter some string In girum consum into the Test String then click 'Make String'. I can magnify the resulting sample using xmag. In my case the horizontal spacing appears to be the same. It might be useful if you could try this method to see if your differences can be reproduced this way. A third technique to get samples is to start up abiword (applying LANG as needed). I guess for your system, you'd use LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R, LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, maybe LANG=ru_RU.ISO-8859-1 (which doesn't really make sense) or LANG=en_US.ISO-8859-1 or maybe LANG=C. But anyway, tell us what you did to generate your dejavu text samples. Oh, tell us what your default locale is too. env | grep LANG. Mine is en_AU.UTF-8. When I send a message out from my computer to a remote recipient, I want any mention of my local user name and host replaced with my externally-visible email address; I have this mapping defined as expected in /etc/email-addresses. However, for local mail, I do not want my From address to be rewritten. The local messages do get delivered properly, but if the recipient replies without editing the To address, the message goes out to my externally-visible address unnecessarily. Also, the rewriting in this case changes the facts: The local messages look like they came from a remote sender, despite being sent from a local account. Supporting this rewrite-only-for-non-local scheme requires that the /etc/email-addresses rewrite rule be moved to the transport's headers_rewrite entry, as suggested in the Exim FAQ (Q0803). I use this technique in an older hand-crafted exim.conf on Cygwin and it works as desired. The rewrite rule rewrites also the recipient and the sender, which the normal headers_rewrite approach does not. I am also reluctant to add another headers_rewrite to both external transports. I'm just surprised to see that the Debian exim4-config package doesn't offer this choice. The exim4-config package already has too many options. There is an optional facility offered now to mask the local host name with an alternate visible host name. When selected, this option adds a headers_rewrite entry to the remote_smtp* transports. This option does not support my scheme; my computer is not visible externally and is not meant to receive non-local messages directly. Though I can't provide a patch today for the debconf mechanism, I can at least sketch some proposed changes. o For setups that permit non-local outbound mail, ask the user whether he wants per-user rewriting (via /etc/email/addresses), global rewriting (the current visible host option), or no rewriting. o If either of the first two rewriting options are chosen above, place an appropriate headers_rewrite entry in each of the remote_smtp* transports. o Remove the current global /etc/email-addresses rewrite rule. I found mention of a similar proposal in Bug 229911, but the submitter's proposal to limit the /etc/email-addresses rewriting was not properly addressed in the discussion that followed. I am reluctant to change the behavior of the package in a way that is so hard to understand. Implementing this will cause confusion with a lot of users. pkg-exim4-users, what do you think? Bug#426407: git-svn: --follow-parent does not follow moves of parent directories

Hi David, can you please check with git-svn version 1.5.2.1 whether this problem still exists? A lot of work has been done on git-svn since 1.4.4.4. Thanks, Gerrit. Hi Gerrit. Thanks for your reply. I was using 1.4.4.4 because that's the one in testing. git-svn 1.5.2.1 from unstable works much better. In most cases it is detecting moves of parent directories. There is still one case it is not detecting. Example SVN history: r1: Initial import A /A/B/1.txt A /A/B/2.txt A /A/B/3.txt r2: Some changes M /A/B/1.txt M /A/B/2.txt M /A/B/3.txt r3: Moved files to a trunk dirctory: M /A/B D /A/B/1.txt D /A/B/2.txt D /A/B/3.txt A /A/B/trunk/1.txt (from /A/B/1.txt:2) A /A/B/trunk/2.txt (from /A/B/2.txt:2) A /A/B/trunk/3.txt (from /A/B/3.txt:3) r4: Made more changes: M /A/B/trunk/1.txt M /A/B/trunk/2.txt M /A/B/trunk/3.txt If you run: git-svn import svn:server/A/B/trunk/ git-svn fetch Then 'git-svn fetch' detects r3 as the first revision, rather than r1. This is a corner case. eg, what should git-svn do when the parent directory /A/B (r2) had a lot of other files and sub-dirs in it besides trunk? I think that in this case git-svn should emit a warning, and then behave as though all those other files and sub-dirs were deleted going from r2 to r3. Then it should be fine to change our 'base' directory in the repo from /A/B/trunk to /A/B (going backwards from r3 to r2). On 6/19/07, Drew Parsons [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: OK, you're using the stable etch versions. One possibility is that the matter got addressed and fixed in the following versions that we're now testing in unstable. I've reproduced the xfd box size difference, but let's try for reproduction of the latin sample difference. If the character metrics in xfd windows differ then I'd say that the bug is present in newer Xorg packages. I used the attaches Tcl/Tk script. Tcl/Tk 8.4.12, which is shipped with etch (and with sid also) uses old X fonts mechanism, which contains the bug (I think). Alternatively, I can generate text samples from gfontview using both gfontview and LANG=en_AU gfontview (my default locale is UTF-8, so I expect the former to be using the iso10646-1 version of the font, while the latter should be using iso8859-1. ). I'm pretty sure that gfontview uses Xft for font rendering. It's a different method, for which I didn't see this bug. So, to reproduce the bug, you have to use some other software. xfontsel comes to mind (with -sample, -sample16, -sampleUCS options). Abiword is based on GTK+2 too, so it can't show the bug too. My default locale is ru_RU.CP1251. The attached script uses explicit font names for both labels. -- Sergei Golovan sample.tcl Description: Tcl script

I looked through the scripts in the linux-wlan-ng package, and noticed that it only gets issued just before ifup'ing the interface (/etc/network/if-pre-up.d/linux-wlan-ng-pre-up). So the best idea would be to execute said command right after plugging it in. At this point I'm not sure where the best place would be. Package: yaird Version: 0.0.12-20 yaird fails to create an initrd image for a raid5 system: $ sudo mkinitrd.yaird -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-rc5 2.6.22-rc5 yaird error: Could not read output for /sbin/modprobe -v -n --show-depends --set-version 2.6.22-rc5 raid5 (fatal) Seems to me it tries to add the kernel module raid5 to the image, however, no such module exists in the kernel. Perhaps it's refering to raid456. Anyway, it's built with CONFIG_MD_RAID456=y, so it should try to load it as a module in the first place. Is this perhaps due to the soon 2 year old bug #337724? If so, perhaps yaird should bail out with an error message like; doesn't support raid devices if possible. And I raise a vote to prioritize raid support in yaird. After all, from what I can see, there has been a patch available since that bug was filed. Please tell me if I can be of further help in this issue. Bug#429437: new MAKEDEV usage chroot un friendly
On Tue, 19 Jun 2007 08:38:30 am Ludovic RESLINGER wrote: Ok, but this is not a specific problem of libraw1394 in this case. No its not. irda-utils is another example. libraw1394 require /dev/MAKEDEV to create /dev/raw1394. If you use udev, you must activate and configure it before to install libraw1394. udev is not active in a chroot. It is not a solution to apply your patch because if /dev/MAKEDEV doesn't exist, /dev/raw1394 won't be created and libraw1394 won't work. I don't know how udev work in chroot, I think that you should ask it at udev's maitainer. Or your postinst could get smarter. Unconditionally calling cd /dev ./MAKEDEV *assumes* udev is active. I would suggest to try sudo apt-get remove cdd-common (which will also deinstall med-common and med-practice but you do not really need these to have gnumed-client installed. Then try update-menus. This should build correct menus. It does indeed. So, the bottom line is: Installing both gnumed-client from testing/unstable and cdd-common from stable gives incorrect menus. At this point I'm not sure where the best place would be. I'd be happy to hear about proposals from your side and will test patches or packages if needed. You can try to run it from udev rules (RUN+=your line here), but IIRC putting the interface up suddenly avoids loading firmware, that can only be done if the interface is not in 'enabled' state. In ubuntu they used to put the interface up trough udev, and now I figure out why, but this was preventing loading firmare. Some devices do not need the firmware at all (like the one I own) but in general you need it. To test this you should try to download the source package, uncomment the line in debian/patches/00list referring to the udev rules file and rebuild the package. with that patch it should be NetworkManager friendlier, but the firmware issue should bite you. If you find a workaround for the firmware issue... I'll be really happy to apply the patch. Cheers -- Enrico Tassi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#429633: kexec-tools: Slightly incorrect LSB header in the init.d scripts
Package: kexec-tools Version: 1.101-kdump10-2 Tags: patch The dependency and runlevel information provided in the LSB headers in the init.d scripts in kexec-tools is slightly wrong. Here is a patch to fix it. The kexec-tools init.d scripts should only run in runlevel 6, so the default-start values should be rmeoved. Also, the dependencies for the stop scripts are the wrong way around for init.d/kexec, it should stop before reboot, not before kexec-load. Also, kexec-load should stop before kexec, so this should be reflected in the required-stop for that script. The should-start and should-stop headers can probably be removed, as they are empty. diff -ur kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10-orig/debian/kexec.init.d kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10/debian/kexec.init.d --- kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10-orig/debian/kexec.init.d 2007-06-19 09:24:00.0 +0100 +++ kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10/debian/kexec.init.d 2007-06-19 09:25:58.0 +0100 @@ -1,11 +1,11 @@ #! /bin/sh ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides:kexec -# Required-Start: kexec-load -# Required-Stop: kexec-load +# Required-Start: +# Required-Stop: reboot # Should-Start: # Should-Stop: -# Default-Start: 0 1 2 3 4 5 +# Default-Start: # Default-Stop:6 # Short-Description: Execute the kexec -e command to reboot system # Description: diff -ur kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10-orig/debian/kexec-load.init.d kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10/debian/kexec-load.init.d --- kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10-orig/debian/kexec-load.init.d 2007-06-19 09:24:00.0 +0100 +++ kexec-tools-1.101-kdump10/debian/kexec-load.init.d 2007-06-19 09:26:12.0 +0100 @@ -1,11 +1,11 @@ #! /bin/sh ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides:kexec-load -# Required-Start: $local_fs -# Required-Stop: $local_fs +# Required-Start: +# Required-Stop: $local_fs kexec # Should-Start: # Should-Stop: -# Default-Start: 0 1 2 3 4 5 +# Default-Start: # Default-Stop:6 # Short-Description: Load kernel image with kexec # Description: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#348676: dstat: option to not change xterm title
Come on folks, this is a BUG, not a wishlist item. It destroys a setting a user has made without asking. How it works in Bash is that the PROMPT_COMMAND contains the escape This is complete and utter bullshit. PROMPT_COMMAND does exactly what it does, namely exactly what the user configured it to do. Changing the title is not a bash feature in any way, it is completely unrelated to bash. (And as a matter of fact, most people I know use PS1 for that, and many use cd to change the title bar because its the only time it changes, buggy programs excepted). sequences to change the Xterm title. However, programs you run do not have access to this PROMPT_COMMAND environment variable, because it is not exported. And even if it were, it has nothing to do with restoring corrupted titles. If it was exported, I could at least use that to see if that capability is being used on the system. No, you couldn't, especially if it isn't done in PROMPT_COMMAND. This is complete fantasy. Ok, that doesn't grant me the right to overwrite Right, you should restore it like other - well behaving - programs do. it, but at least I would be sure the shell would fix it after dstat is exited. Or I could reset it myself :) The shell never does it. If anything does, it is the user. Now, what I added today to dstat is a check for XTERM_SHELL. If I find my shell is bash I replace the xterm title. This completely illogical. You could do it on odd days or when the disk is full, and it would be about as random. There is no relationship between I can corrupt the terminal window title and bash is running. None at all. Adding one will just add another bug confusing users. Not sure if that is a better implementation or if this helps in any way for you. It is one more bug on top of many. Users will be completely confused as to when their title gets changed, because nobody will ever assume its depending on the shell, because this feature has nothing to do with any shells. Though I'm still open to look at a way to make this work better without adding another command An obvious way to improve it is by acknowledging that it is a bug (first thing, because it corrupts a user setting without asking) and then removing it, or making it optional, or restoring the title by first reading it or using other means of restoring it. I, for one, am increasingly driven back to vmstat (or at least the stable release of dstat for the time being) as the bugs in dstat only ever seem to increase over time, never decrease. Bug#429583: ITP: powerpc-dtc -- PowerPC kernel device tree compiler
There are already source and binary packages for a tool called dtc, you will have to rename this. Maybe ppcdtc? In the logic of the kernel arch, it would better be have powerpc instead of ppc :) I'll rename the package to powerpc-dtc. I was unable to understand what the software does from its description, maybe you could mention what a device tree is, what the formats are (raw, flattened/blob), how dtc relates to OF, why the kernel needs it (kexec?), etc. ack. This serves me right for writing up an ITP when my significant other is summoning me to bed. Also, have you been in contact with Fredrik Roubert? He seems to have done Debian packages before. Indirectly, he seems to be an extern in our company Barco. As with most larger companies, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There seems little point now, from what I have found, his diff is more or less the same as what I've done in parallel. -- greetz, marc Ladies, some decorum please. Changing the title is not a bash feature in any way, it is completely unrelated to bash. Relying on the user's environment to re-overwrite the title after termination is, well, relying on hope too much, because there's no reliable way to ensure that this is going to happen. Dag, I think you need to consider your users some more. The current title you set doesn't really buy the user a lot, so I think given we've got at least one user who's rather passionately against it (and it's bitten me more than once before as well), I think I'll patch it out of the Debian package. regards Andrew signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#429649: bts should cc bugnum when sending control message if it contains a comment
Package: devscripts Version: 2.10.4 Severity: normal Consensus relayed from the DC7 debbugs BoF: If a comment is included in a control message, bts should cc the affected bug(s) when sending the mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The rationalle is that it's currently too easy to miss a commented message to control, since control messages are intentionally well-hidden in the web interface. Bug#425893: k3d: FTBFS with new boost libraries
El martes, 19 de junio de 2007, Sune Vuorela escribió: Hi! I took a quick look at this bug - but I only got partly thru. The autoconf tests fails because the names of the symlinks have been changed. Every occurency of -lboost_foo or boost_foo in m4/k3d_with_external_boost.m4 should be replaged with either -lboost_foo-mt / boost_foo-mt (Or the -st versions) and autoconf rerun. The autoconf now finds boost properly, but it fails unfortunately later when boost is actually used. Around here I gave up Do not worry, Sune. I was playing with boost a couple of days ago and I suffered the new and shiny and incompatible boost 1.34. I will try to sort out the building errors. Bug#429658: python-apt: DebianDistribution class misses method used by SoftwareProperties
Package: python-apt Version: 0.7.2 Severity: important Hello! I'm packaging SoftwareProperties for Debian, and noticed that it uses a method called get_server_list in the ${NAME}Distribution class of the distribution it is running on, and which is in aptsources/distro.py. I wrote a proposed patch that generalizes get_server_list and also get_mirrors, but forces the customization of _get_mirror_name. It seems to work, but notice that I'm not familiar with the code yet. Bug#426939: split acpi-support into more than one package
tags 426939 wontfix thanks I'd rather improve the organization of the package (which it definitely needs) than splitting it up. You see, it's not a large package, it's just a bit disorganized. And that's the fault of upstream (which is Ubuntu). Anyway, I want to avoid at all cost that the user needs to manually select the right package for his/her laptop to work. The only problem here is really that these files are in the config directory, while they really contain package code. I'd much rather fix that instead.
