Bug#437838: cyrus-imapd-2.3: Daemons/tools die due to Berkeley DB version mismatch

2007-08-23 Thread Ondřej Surý
Gabor Gombas píše v Út 21. 08. 2007 v 12:26 +0200:
On Sun, Aug 19, 2007 at 08:07:39PM +0200, Ondřej Surý wrote:

Correct fix would be to find why it didn't find libdb4.4.

The reason is in the comment of the proposed patch. Every libdbX.Y
Debian package installs the library as /usr/lib/libdb-X.Y.so, because
that's the SONAME of the Berkeley DB 4.x libraries. The libdbX.Y-dev
package however installs the /usr/lib/libdb.so symlink that points to
the DB version the -dev package belongs to. That means you _can_ link to
any BDB version if you use an explicit DB name (like the Cyrus configure
script does) even when the -dev package is not present or if the -dev
package belongs to a different library version.

So, if you happen to have _any_ libdbX.Y package installed that has a
version higher than the -dev package (example: you have all libdb4.4,
libdb4.4-dev, and libdb4.5 installed) then the Cyrus configuration
snippet will find the highest library version (4.5 in this case, since
the linker will find the /usr/lib/libdb-4.5.so library), and not the
version of the -dev package. And that will cause the version mismatch.

The reason why this problem do not occur with other packages is that
almost every other library (including the 3.x series of BDB) uses a
SONAME of the form libfoo.so.X.Y.Z, i.e. the SONAME does not end in
 .so.

I was thinking about this issue while walking to work and you are not
right. If everything is ok with macro you patched, imapd is linked
against libdb-X.Y.so. Only problem could be if compiler is called with
-ldb instead of -ldb-X.Y, which points back to my original thought, that
something went wrong in first block in m4 macro, which tests against
specific version of bdb and it used fallback macro which links just to
-ldb.

What does 'ldd /usr/lib/cyrus/bin/imapd' says on broken binary? And
'apt-cache policy cyrus-imapd-2.3' ?

Ondrej.

Bug#439189: update-manager: Horrible death if run outside of an X environment

2007-08-23 Thread Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña

Package: update-manager
Version: 0.42.2ubuntu22-15
Priority: wishlist

If I start update-manager from the CLI of a non-X terminal (no $DISPLAY)
it dies with a 'Segment violation' and produces in STDERR the attached
errors.

Why doesn't it start by checking if you do not have a $DISPLAY and abort
saying it's not a console application? A simple message trapping those
exceptions and saying Sorry, this application needs a graphical environment
to run would be sufficient.

Regards

Bug#432410: util-vserver: Please upload the package

This bug is marked as pending. Can you upload it?

Unfortunately, I cannot because I am getting some build errors with the
newer build suite in sid. Once these are worked out, I will be able to upload.

A bin-nmu of this package has been scheduled to fix a problem
related to symbol hashing (the package has been built with a bad version
of gcc) and the bin-nmu failed due to this bug.

Can you say more about this?

Not much more than:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2007/07/msg00064.html

Good library show two lines like this:
$ objdump -p /lib/libc.so.6 |grep HASH
  HASH0x13e088
  GNU_HASH0x194

And bad ones only show the GNU_HASH one. util-vserver is affected on amd64,
alpha, ia64, powerpc, s390 and sparc.

Since the bad gcc version is no more in use, a simple maintainer upload
will resolve the problem.

Cheers,

2007-08-23 Thread manphiz

retitle 433064 wine: upstream version 0.9.43 available
severity 433064 wishlist
thanks

Since 0.9.41 has entered sid, there's no scim conflict currently, so
knock down severity to wishlist, and retitle for new upstream version.

if you skip releases, the damage is greater if it does happen. If you don't,
users always have something to fall back on.

Sounds reasonable. Though old binaries are deleted from repository when
new version enters, their sources are saved for this purpose I believe.
Thanks Ove for your work.

sounds good to me. does initscripts necessarily require the user to
reboot after installation, or should the notification be removed from

initscripts require a reboot to get the system into a known state
after the upgrade from versions before 2.86.ds1-27. I found no other
reliaby way to get some file system mount points into a known state.

Bug#437838: cyrus-imapd-2.3: Daemons/tools die due to Berkeley DB version mismatch

2007-08-23 Thread Ondřej Surý
I have found something in debian packaging. 2.3.8-1 build depends on
libdb4.5-dev, but macro doesn't check for it.

So package gets compiled against lidb4.5-dev headers and -ldb-4.4
libraries.

It will be fixed in 2.3.9-1 release.

Thanks for your bug report.

The build produced a lot of .deb file with version 2.6.21-2

Bug#387703: piklab debian package

2007-08-23 Thread Jan Wagemakers
Hello,

Today, I wanted to update my experimental piklab debian package¹. However,
in the latest tar.bz2, I see that there is now a debian-directory. Here I
can see that Stefan von Halenbach has worked on creating a debian package
for piklab.

This is great news, because I don't consider myself the best person for this
job (I'm not a KDE-user, but find piklab-prog very interesting).

To avoid duplicate work, can you explain to bugreport 387703¹ what the
plans are about debian and piklab. If Stefan wants to maintain piklab for
Debian, then the RFP (Request For Packaging) can be renamed to ITP (Intend
To Package).

Bug#387703: piklab debian package

2007-08-23 Thread Nicolas Hadacek
I'm not completely sure what is the status of the debian packager for
piklab. Stefan used to do it. Then Tom Schouten volonteered to do it
and he made updated packages for piklab 0.14.2

Since then there are no new debian packages for the newer version of
piklab. I am not sure if they are too busy or if they dropped the ball
(or if I should tell them when I make a new release ?). I am sending
copies of this email to them so they can answer these questions.

Also note that Stefan and Tom are both rookies at making debian
packages. It would probably be best if some more knowledgeable person
could at least help them.

Nicolas

Bug#393746: Letting alias be an option might be better

2007-08-23 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi,

Let's take Helvetica for example. Although Arial looks like
Helvetica, they are not the same fonts in design; the differences in
interface are somewhat noticeable given that the users have been
familiar with original Helvetica font. Compared with Arial, however,
Nimbus Sans L font, provided by gsfonts/gsfonts-x11 package, is the
real clone of Helvetica. Using a different name is just a trademark
issue. Therefore, I don't think it is a good idea to treat Arial as a
replacement of Helvetica interface given that Nimbus Sans L already
exists.

Well, Arial et al fonts are designed as replacements in design, but
this is just a company decision of Microsoft. And in order to get rid
of trademark issues, these fonts do be designed with similar but
different interfaces. Why should we follow such a not-so-wise
decision?

p.s., for the reference of defoma aliasing functionality, I'm not
familiar too. I'm sorry for that.

On 8/22/07, Thijs Kinkhorst [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
On Tuesday 21 August 2007 05:27, Hongzheng Wang wrote:
  Hi all,

Although Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New are designed to be
replacements for famous Times, Helvetica, and Courier, they are not
the same fonts. After all, the differences are obviouse if the users
are familiar with original Times, Helvetica, and Courier. In
addition, gsfonts package has provided aliases, which are
design-compatible with original ones and are good enough in many
cases. So, I think msttcorefonts package had better provide a user
decided option (prompt in configuration) for adding aliases. And,
setting the priority to be as same as that in gsfonts might not be
good because it will confuse users.

I'm not eager to add a configuration question - any such question further
complicates and lengthens Debian's installation processes, so there should be
 good cause.

In this case, since the fonts were designed to be drop in replacements of the
original Times, Helvetica and Courier I do not see the problem with adding
the Aliases. Could you let me know which concrete problem you're facing?

I may consider lowering the priority - but I haven't found a reference for
priorities yet. Do you have an indication of the scale of these priorities?

 Thijs

Bug#439197: Build-depends libpri-dev version not specific enough

2007-08-23 Thread Martijn Grendelman
Package: asterisk
Version: 1.4.11~dfsg-1

Asterisk 1.4.11~dfsg-1 uses a patch named use-libpri-bristuffed, that
makes the build process depend on a version of libpri-dev that supplies
the file /usr/include/bristuffed/libpri.h. If this file is not
present, the build fails.

/usr/include/bristuffed/libpri.h is present in libpri-dev 1.4.1-1 and
up, but not in 1.4.0-2 and before.

Asterisk build-depends on libpri-dev (= 1.4). I think this should be
changed to (= 1.4.1).

2007-08-23 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: wireshark
Version: 0.99.6pre1-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I cannot open any capture file from inside wireshark using the File -
Open ... dialog. The 'Open' button stays greyd out.

If I save a capture to a filename, then, I can open that filename using
File - 'Open recent'. So the problem is not with opening files, but more
with the Open dialog.

Bug#439197: Build-depends libpri-dev version not specific enough

2007-08-23 Thread Faidon Liambotis

Martijn Grendelman wrote:
Asterisk 1.4.11~dfsg-1 uses a patch named use-libpri-bristuffed, that

 present, the build fails.

 /usr/include/bristuffed/libpri.h is present in libpri-dev 1.4.1-1 and
up, but not in 1.4.0-2 and before.

 Asterisk build-depends on libpri-dev (= 1.4). I think this should be
 changed to (= 1.4.1).
You're absolutely right, thanks.
Fixed in r4246, will appear in Debian in 1:1.4.11~dfsg-2.

Bug#438335: [Fwd: Bug#438335: dtach -n error - tcgetattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device]

2007-08-23 Thread Stefan Völkel
Ned T. Crigler wrote:
It seems dtach -n attempts to determine the current terminal settings.

I think -n option should be able to fake the terminal settings. It is
arguable that the current terminal is not relevant for the -n option.

 To demonstrate the problem:

 ~$ dtach -n ~/.dtach/shell bash /dev/null
dtach: tcgetattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device

This should be fixed in the CVS version. dtach -n should no longer fail
and just use the default terminal settings if tcgetattr fails.

It's probably time for a new dtach release, to get more testing of the
various changes that have been stewing in CVS for a while.

Bernard, could you give the CVS version a try and test if this issue is
fixed for you?

regards

Bug#430352: [bts-link] source package amarok

2007-08-23 Thread Marc Haber
tags #430352 - fixed-upstream
notforwarded #430352
thanks

This is unfortunately a misfire of bts-link. Upstream rejected the bug
as invalid since it is associated with PulseAudio.

I do not consider this bug fixed Debian-wise, as I do not even know
what PulseAudio is, and surely did not enable it. So it is most
probably a packaging issue. How do I disable PulseAudio for Amarok?

Greetings
Marc

Bug#426385: Only occurs when using 'system' or 'media' ioslaves

2007-08-23 Thread Andrew Donnellan
Package: ark
Version: 4:3.5.7-3

Turns out the problem really is using the 'media' ioslave. Using just
plain 'file' it works fine.

(I discovered this while reading another bug report covering a whole

I'm not a shell expert but then what is your sh?

The output of the failed fmtutil-sys shows this summary:

Is there /tmp/fmtutil.* file yet on your system?
If yes, can you find out some sign of failure?

I'm not sure your problem is the same Raphael's one.

Bug#439199: gimmie: Preferences dialog is insensitive

2007-08-23 Thread Javier Kohen
Package: gimmie
Version: 0.2.7-1
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Launching the Gimmie preferences dialog from the context menu of the applet on
the Gnome panel produces an insensitive dialog. Clicking on it produces no
changes, and it can't be closed either through the Close buttor or through
Window Manager decorations.

Xkill on this dialog brings down all of Gimmie!

It would be nice if the dialog worked, but also if killing it didn't kill
Gimmie as well.

Bug#439200: update-manager: missing man page

2007-08-23 Thread Johannes Wiedersich
Package: update-manager
Version: 0.42.2ubuntu22-11
Severity: normal

update-manager (and -notifier) don't have a man page. This is especially
annoying as those programs cannot be started as 'ordinary
user' from the command line, but rather have to be started as 'gksu
update-manager', which is not obvious for first-time users.

The man page should also tell how to access the settings. Especially to kde
users it is not obvious, that update-manager's settings
are changed by running a seperate program called 'Software Properties' from the
kde -- settings menue.

It might be helpful, if the man page would also describe how to acces the
program from the menu. In kde it is kde - Settings -
Update Manager.

[The description in update-manager's help screens just applies to gnome, but I
guess that's another bug. ]

Thanks,
Johannes

Bug#439202: emacs22-gtk: Remote ftp access using non default port

2007-08-23 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: emacs22-gtk
Version: 22.1+1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

When I used emacs21 I was able to access Zope objects via ftp by

C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED] 8021:/

Unfortunately emacs22 says:

This is not a tramp file

I assume that this is caused by the non default port 8021 under
which Zopes ftp server is running. The reason for the assumption
is that I can successfully access

C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/

But I get the same error message as above when I try

C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED] 21:/

I think the last example is the simplest method to reproduce the
problem.

Kind regards and thanks for maintaining Emacs

Andreas.

Another bug reporting tool does this quite nicely like this:

2 grave makes the package in question unusable by most or all users,

3 serious is a severe violation of Debian policy (that is, the problem
is a violation of a 'must' or 'required' directive); may or may not affect
the usability of the package. Note that
non-severe policy violations may be 'normal,' 'minor,'
or 'wishlist' bugs. (Package maintainers may also designate other bugs
as 'serious' and thus release-critical; however,
end users should not do so.)
4 important a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a
package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone.
5 does-not-build a bug that stops the package from being built from source.
(This is a 'virtual severity'.)
6 normal a bug that does not undermine the usability of the whole
package; for example, a problem with a particular option or menu item.
7 minor things like spelling mistakes and other minor cosmetic
errors that do not affect the core functionality of the package.
8 wishlistsuggestions and requests for new features.

That other tool do also require a detailed justification for choosing a
justification for the report.
For example, if I choose 2 grave, I need to answer one more question:

You are reporting a grave bug; which of the following criteria does it meet?

1 renders package unusable renders the package unusable, or mostly so, on
all or nearly all possible systems on which it could be installed (i.e., not
a hardware-specific bug); or renders
package uninstallable or unremovable without
special effort

2 causes non-serious data loss causes the loss of data on the system that is
unimportant, or restorable without resorting to backup media

3 user security holeintroduces a security hole allowing access to
user accounts or data not normally accessible

4 unknown not sure, or none of the above

 - and if unknown is chosen, the severity is automatically downgraded to
normal.

Reportbug-ng makes it too easy to file bug reprots with a escalated - or
wrong - severity.

I might have filed this bug reprot with a wrong severity, but I forgot what
the severities meant.

Hi,

Viking is unable to download maps execpt for the 'Terraserver Aerials' maps.

The error message for all zoom level :

Wrong drawmode / zoom level for this map

I was wondering how long it will take until such a bug report arrives ;)
Unfortunately that's just a confusing feature for new users, which is
not fixed yet: Please choose Google Mode in the View menu and give it
a try again.

As workaround the next version will use Google Mode as default mode,
as it is used by most people. A real fix will be done as soon as a
developer finds the time to do so, if you want to join the discussion or
help - there's a viking-devel mailing list.

I'm retitling this bug therefore and degrade it to wishlist, please let
me know if it doesn't work for you in Google Mode.

Thanks,

Bernd

Bug#439195: solved ?

2007-08-23 Thread pjoyot

I think that the bug is solved

I found this file in my system : /usr/bin/py.pyc.
This file is generated by pypy I suppose.
This file conflict with the import py of py.test.

I think that the pypy package can produce file that conflict with
python-codespeak-lib.

Please, If you agree with my point of view inform the pypy maintainer.

Thank you

This is unfortunately a misfire of bts-link. Upstream rejected the bug
as invalid since it is associated with PulseAudio.

Actually it's not, bts-link saw that upstream marked the bug with a
closing state, hence I tag the bug fixed-upstream. If you disagree for
this or this reason, you just need to untag it, like you did, to show
you disagree, and you processed the bug. bts-link won't force it again,
except if upstream reopens it and then close it again.

  That's just how bts-link works.

well the ia64 klibc support is still based on 01-ia64-static.diff

Bug#439204: Playlist gets a little mixed up - Songs are shown at wrong places

2007-08-23 Thread Alain Schroeder
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.10.1-1+b1
Severity: minor

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I guess this is some kind of corner case.

Symptom: Songs appears at wrong places
Scenario: I use a automatic, filtered playlist with the following restrictions:

 * Rating = 4
 * Genre does not contain XMAS
 * Length = 15:00

The List is sorted descending by last-played. Play is set to 'random-by-age'.

Every n-th play (didn't realize a pattern, but it happens pretty often)
when rhythmbox jumps to the next song, it actually doesn't change it's
position in the playlist, but it replaces the old song with the current
one.
It can be best recognized by looking at 'last-played', since it's value
doesn't fit into the otherwise sorted list.

I haven't checked another setup.

Bug#439205: texlive-latex-base: upgrading package fails

Upgrading the package from 2005.dfsg.3-1 fails:

I've never deleted color.cfg, no clue why it does not exist where it
should exist, but the cp obviously fails.

Hi Osamu,

Št, 2007 08 11 10:35 +0900, Osamu Aoki rašė:

 * What is the correct value for pdfhyperref: hypertex, unicode?

After you have changed the value 'unicode' to 'hypertex' for
pdfhyperref (on version 1.2.4) I have noticed that hypertext links
in .pdf files don't work any more. I have tried to change again
'hypertex' to 'unicode' for all languages, which have .pdf documents
in the debian-history package (de, en, es, fr, it, lt, pt and ru).
And the hypertext links works again. I have looked with the 'evince'
and 'xpdf' viewers.

So, the correct value for pdfhyperref = unicode (at least for these
languages), even for the non utf8 locales.

Best wishes,

Bug#429873: monitoring package

2007-08-23 Thread Steffen Joeris
Hi

Sorry for the really late reply.

I use kradio and I have a card (the TV tuner doesn't function properly
anymore, but the radio works). What do you need help with? There are no open
bugs ATM.
Well general testing is always welcome. Maybe also checking, if there are
newer upstream releases and then also packaging them and testing :)
Thanks very much for your offer and efforts.

Cheers

 Hi,

I cannot open any capture file from inside wireshark using the File -

If I save a capture to a filename, then, I can open that filename using
File - 'Open recent'. So the problem is not with opening files, but more
 with the Open dialog.

I don't experience such a problem; the Open button turns sensitive
when a capture file is selected. But I see there is a problem when
the file name is entered in the Location text entry, the Open button
doesn't get sensitive that way.

I am working on a patch, I will hopefully upload 0.99.6 with that
patch today.

Yes, I also realized that I got the versioning wrong (I somehow thought

opposite is still possible for exactly the same reason).

It will be fixed in 2.3.9-1 release.

Thanks. Be careful that 2.3.9 already seems to check for BDB 4.6 too.

Bug#439197: Build-depends libpri-dev version not specific enough

 Martijn Grendelman wrote:
Asterisk 1.4.11~dfsg-1 uses a patch named use-libpri-bristuffed, that
makes the build process depend on a version of libpri-dev that supplies
the file /usr/include/bristuffed/libpri.h. If this file is not
 present, the build fails.

 /usr/include/bristuffed/libpri.h is present in libpri-dev 1.4.1-1 and
up, but not in 1.4.0-2 and before.

 Asterisk build-depends on libpri-dev (= 1.4). I think this should be
 changed to (= 1.4.1).
 You're absolutely right, thanks.
Fixed in r4246, will appear in Debian in 1:1.4.11~dfsg-2.

One more thing: even though the build-dep is updated, the binary
asterisk package that is built, still gets a Depends: libpri1.0
(=1.4), so one can upgrade Asterisk without upgrading libpri. I
haven't tested this, but I imagine that this could break things.

The actual problem is in the libpri package, that ships a 'shlibs' file
with this version. Perhaps I should file a bug against libpri?

Best regards,

Actually, no it wouldn't.
The binary package name was changed to libpri1.0 (from libpri1.2) in

I assume that this is caused by the non default port 8021 under

is that I can successfully access

 C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/

But I get the same error message as above when I try

I think the last example is the simplest method to reproduce the
 problem.

I can reproduce this, but note what the Emacs manual says:

And indeed,

   C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/

works fine. FWIW, this is the official method to specify the port
number even in Emacs 21.

Why is only the vcd input plugin patched? Why not other files which check for

Good question. For me it was enough to be able to build the Debian

Would it be better to have include/config.h cause __FreeBSD__ to

Yes, I think that should work, but I haven't tested anything, yet.

Just include that file in tarball, and I'll handle rest. I already have some

Ah, that's how I entered it.

I am working on a patch, I will hopefully upload 0.99.6 with that
 patch today.

Bug#436105: suggestion to add GPL-1 as a common licence

reassign 436105 debian-policy
thanks

On Sun, 5 Aug 2007, Sam Hocevar wrote:

There are still many packages that mention the GPL version 1 in their
copyright file (around 350). Many Perl packages, but also Perl itself
and widespread things like sed, joe, cvs, dict...

There are also countless packages that are under the GPL without
mentioning the version at all (more than 2,000 but I was unable to get
a precise number), they should therefore be considered version 1 or
 above.

This is why I believe it wouldn't hurt to ship the GPL-1 with
base-files, even if most people are going to use any later version. It
 can be found here: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-1.0.txt

I delegate this decision to the policy group, as explained in base-files FAQ.

As your proposal does not require a change in debian-policy, you would
only need two seconds and no objections.

However, my personal opinion is that the GPL v1 should be considered
obsolete and we should deprecate it. The FSF would probably tell you
that the GPLv1 has bugs which have been fixed in GPLv2 and GPLv3.

We would be happier if we had less licenses to consider, not more.

Thanks.

Bug#438459: libsmbios-dev dependency

2007-08-23 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi Michael,

I just came across this bug. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have a
dependency on libsmbios-dev only on those platforms that have it (amd64,
i386)?

e.g.:
Build-Depends: libsmbios-dev [i386 amd64]

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#439202: emacs22-gtk: Remote ftp access using non default port

On Thu, 23 Aug 2007, Sven Joachim wrote:

Unfortunately emacs22 says:

This is not a tramp file

I assume that this is caused by the non default port 8021 under
which Zopes ftp server is running. The reason for the assumption
is that I can successfully access

C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/

But I get the same error message as above when I try

C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED] 21:/

I think the last example is the simplest method to reproduce the
problem.

I can reproduce this, but note what the Emacs manual says:

,
| You can refer to files on other machines using a special file name
| syntax:
|
| /HOST:FILENAME
| /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:FILENAME
| /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:FILENAME
| /METHOD:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:FILENAME
| /METHOD:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:FILENAME
`

I can confirm that

   /ftp:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/

really works (the ftp-METHOD is important here - it does not work
without specifying this).

And indeed,

  C-x C-f /[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/

works fine. FWIW, this is the official method to specify the port
number even in Emacs 21.

Well, I guess I'm preconditioned from older Emacs versions. For
my case I'd be quite happy now and would regard closing the bug
(or at least setting it to wishlist for those dinosaurs like me
who learned it the old way). Feel free to do what you think is
the apropriate action.

Many thanks for the quick response

  Andreas.

Bug#439214: [xml/sgml-pkgs] Bug#439214: docbook2x-man runs without error but produces no output

 /usr/bin/xsltproc --nonet --debug --output units.mxml
 http://docbook2x.sourceforge.net/latest/xslt/man/docbook.xsl units.xml

 No information about errors appears.

The output units.mxml file is basically empty:

 ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8 standalone=yes?
 manpageset xmlns=http://docbook2x.sourceforge.net/xmlns/Man-XML/

My input file, units.xml was produced from a texinfo file
 automatically and appears here:

?xml version=1.0?!DOCTYPE book PUBLIC -//OASIS//DTD DocBook XML
 V4.2//EN http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.2/docbookx.dtd; [
   !ENTITY tex TeX
   !ENTITY latex LaTeX
 ]

First: Can you please attach the file instead of quoting it inline? It
would really, really help to decrease the necessary work for me.

 book lang=en
[snip]

Second: Manpages are of refentry root element. But your book doesn't
contain any refentry element. For an example of a manpage written in
bocbook XML
see /usr/share/doc/docbook-xsl/examples/foo.1.example_manpage.xml.gz.

So to my knowledge, you/docbook2x cannot produce any manpage from the
file you gave. You probably need to adjust the units.xml creation from
the texinfo file to create a manpage source.

From what you told and send, this is not a bug.

Regards, Daniel

Bug#439223: mcelog: annotate-output for timestamping suggestion does not work

2007-08-23 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
Package: mcelog
Version: 0.8~pre-2
Severity: normal

the README.Debian says:

However, if you'd like to timestamp mcelog's output to get a very rough idea
of the time the MCE was logged, you can (...) pipe mcelog's output
 through annotate-output

This suggests to replace /usr/sbin/mcelog --ignorenodev --filter by
/usr/sbin/mcelog --ignorenodev --filter | annotate-output in
/etc/cron.d/mcelog. This will not work at all:

 1) as of annotate-output v1.2, it will fill /var/log/mcelog with
started / ended at entries every 5 minutes.

 2) It will actually discard the mcelog output, as this example shows:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo foo | annotate-output
13:54:40 I: Started
13:54:40 I: Finished with exitcode 0

What I do now is use logger -t mcelog instead of
annotate-output. This has the side effect of sending the output to
syslog instead of /var/log/mcelog, though.

 i386)?

 e.g.:
 Build-Depends: libsmbios-dev [i386 amd64]

Hmm, isn't that exactly the way how we currently do it?

We have a Build-Depends for i386 and amd64, and the configure script
automatically switches the dell-backlight feature on, for those
plattforms where libsmbios-dev is installed.
