Bug#445300: noip2: French debconf templates translation

2007-10-05 Thread Christian Perrier
reassign 445300 no-ip
thanks

Quoting Ivan Buresi ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Package: noip2
 Version: N/A
 Severity: wishlist
 Tags: patch l10n

I suggest reported debconf l10n bugs against the source package, not
the binary package. See the calls for translations I sent in
d-l10n-french--they use no-ip and not noip2

Therefore reassigning the bug.

Bug#445211: installation-report: Kernel panics every time I try to boot it.

2007-10-05 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting [EMAIL PROTECTED] ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

Could you also check and send here the parameters used by grub to boot
  the system ?

(you can see them at the boot menu by hitting 'e' on the default
  entry)

I'm afraid I'm not using GRUB to boot the system. I'm using LILO.

Hmmm, then you probably didn't run a default install, did you?

Are you in a position to test the very same install with grub?

In case you aren't, could you chez the lilo.conf file in the installed
system (of course not being able to boot it will require tweaking such
as booting from a Live CD such as Knoppix, or the Debian Installer CD
in rescue mode).

Rerunning its code in 2007:

Bug#445340: gnome-panel: Hogs memory

 There is obviously something leaking.

I think i found the culprit. My battery is half dead, and the
gnome-power-manager notification icon is set up to only show up when on
battery. As it happens, the acpi information switches quite randomly
between on battery an on AC, meaning the icon appears/disappears quite a
lot, and following gnome-panel memory usage after a while seems to
indicate the memory hogging doesn't happen when the icon is made still
(always display it), though the icon itself changes (switches between the
charging icon and the on AC icon).

So, on first hand, there seems to be a leak when a notification icon
disappears.

Gnome-terminal (currently 2.18.2-1 here) is still as quick as before when

Hmhm, ok. I don't really see such behavior here. But maybe I didn't
understand the test case. What should I do? Maximize a xfce4-terminal

xfce4-terminal uses a lot of cpu? Did you check this in `top`? Is the

Bug#444338: [Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#444338: README.Debian.gz has outdated sections

2007-10-05 Thread petes-bugs
That could be an opportunity to re-check that file and see whether
there are some things we might want to add.

I recommend the following additions:

- There is a bug (https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4098) where
by accounts created with 'net rpc user add' are disabled and need
enabling. To work around this you can do this for each account you create:
smbpasswd -e new username

- Beware of 'invalid users = root' in smb.conf, which is enabled by
default in Debian

- Upgrading from Sarge to Etch:

smb.conf's 'passwd chat' changed from '*Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n
*Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n .' to '*Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:*
%n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully*
.'

Since Samba 3.0.23 'net groupmap modify' now needs to be 'net groupmap
add'; additionally the RID has to be specified, using the form 'rid=RID'

From 3.0.23's release notes:

Group Mapping Changes
=

The default mapping entries for groups such as Domain Admins are
no longer created when using an smbpasswd file or a tdbsam passdb
backend. This means that it is necessary to use 'net groupmap
add' rather than 'net groupmap modify' to set these entries.
This change has no effect on winbindd's IDmap functionality for
domain groups.

Where once you might have done this:
net groupmap modify ntgroup=Domain Admins
unixgroup=samba-domain-admins type=domain -U root
net groupmap modify ntgroup=Domain Users unixgroup=samba-domain-users
type=domain -U root
net groupmap modify ntgroup=Domain Guests
unixgroup=samba-domain-guests type=domain -U root

You now have to do this:
net groupmap add rid=512 ntgroup=Domain Admins
unixgroup=samba-domain-admins type=domain -U root
net groupmap add rid=513 ntgroup=Domain Users
unixgroup=samba-domain-users type=domain -U root
net groupmap add rid=514 ntgroup=Domain Guests
unixgroup=samba-domain-guests type=domain -U root

Bug#444914: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#444914: temporary-cryptsetup-$$ files appear in /dev/mapper

2007-10-05 Thread David Härdeman
On Mon, October 1, 2007 21:16, Dick Middleton wrote:
 Package: cryptsetup
 Version: 2:1.0.5-2
 Severity: important

I have a curious effect; sometimes I get an error with luksOpen such as
 this:

Failed to setup dm-crypt key mapping.
Check kernel for support for the aes-cbc-plain cipher spec and verify that
/dev/mapper/vg02-devil contains at least 261 sectors.
Failed to read from key storage
Command failed: No key available with this passphrase.

None of these problems exist - it's a perfectly valid luks partition
so the cause remains a mystery for the moment however:

On a subsequent attempt to luksOpen it will most likely succeed but
there then remains a file /dev/mapper/temporary-cryptsetup-$$ where $$
is obviously a process number. This file can be removed with a
 luksClose.

To reiterate, this file remains after a subsequent successful attempt
 not after the preceeding failure.

This problem has only appeared on my system after upgrading the
hardware from a k7 system to an amd64 system and changing to a Debian
stock kernel (2.6.22-2-amd64) rather than a home brew (2.6.19) one.

Ok, I've compared the two strace logs (they can be found in the bug
report) and the error in the failure log seems to be at line 287 where
some process has opened the temporary device that libdevmapper created
(meaning libdevmapper can't remove it and errors out).

I believe that you're seeing a race between libdevmapper and udev in the
creation of the dm-* devices (and you probably see it now because you have
a faster machine).

The problem seems to be documented here (and the ubuntu patch to
libdevmapper seems to contain some relevant code):
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UdevDeviceMapper

So, I'm CC:ing the maintainers for libdevmapper and udev to ask their
advice before I reassign this BR.

Bug#445275: gajim: Not installable with python 2.5

2007-10-05 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le jeudi 04 octobre 2007 à 21:30 +0200, Yann Leboulanger a écrit :
Gajim can work with python2.5 because pysqlite is included in python2.5.
 But there making a dep on python2.4 + python-pysqlite2 OR python2.5
doesn't work: it's not because you have python 2.5 installed that it's
you'll use it to run Gajim, see bug #418252. It's why we now strictly
depend on python2.4, I don't see how to improve things.

In this case, you should depend on:
python (= 2.4), python-pysqlite2 | python (= 2.5)
and that should be enough for when the package is upgraded.

In fact, when moved to version 2.5, python should start providing
python-pysqlite2; currently the python maintainer hasn't added this
field, but it should be fixed before the migration.

Cheers,

Bug#445317: base: if I move a window of a programm to another desktop I can not use the keybord or the mouse after

2007-10-05 Thread Amaya
Hi, Torsten,

Torsten Wiebke wrote:
Hallo I use xfce but I don't know if ther is the reason for my problem.

No problem, I think we can work together to find the real cause.

Everytime I move a window of a programm to another desktop I can't use
the keybord or the mouse after this action. So I have to reboot.

Sounds like the window manager or the xserver.

Please write me how to get Information which programm causes this bug.

I will now ask you for information, do not hesitate to ask for help if
you don't know how to obtain any of it.

It would be nice to know the versions of:
- xfce
- xorg-*
- kernel seems to be 2.6.18-4-686

What video hardware do you have?
What kind of mouse and keyboard do you have?
Can you attach your xorg.conf file?
How do you startx?

Can you follow these steps:

- move $HOME/.xsession-errors to $HOME/.xsession-errors.bak
- reproduce the problem, move a window of a programm to another
  desktop...
  - can you still ping the machine?
  - can you change to a text console using ctrl-alt-F1?
  - and reboot :(
- send me both your .xsession-errors* files
- send me the output of dmesg

Thanks and sorry for the unconcrete report but I don't know better.

Unfortunately life is complicated and so are computers, no need to
apologize, we have all faced this polstegeist kind of problems from
time to time. The more info you can provide, the better we can find out
what's going on.

Happy hacking!

Doing the same as Xavier solved this for me.

yowsa.

This ssh session is connecting another desktop machine to
my primary desktop to tunnel synergy2 traffic. The synergy2
daemon has died. OOM kicked in over night, but it seems not
to have been responsible for killing synergy2.

(I guess there might be a synergy bug here, but no client
should force the sshd into mallocing *that* much, so I'd
argue there's a dropbear bug too...)

/var/log/dropbear does not exist, so there's not a lot of
stuff to look at to figure out what might have happened...

Bug#445355: fai-server: Please add a variable for $NFSROOT/live/filesystem.dir

2007-10-05 Thread Achim Bohnet
Package: fai-server
Version: 3.2.1
Severity: wishlist

Since usage of live sys in FAI, $NFSROOT is no longer the / directory of
the created chroot/nfsboot environment.

In /etc/nfsroot-hooks I always need to access $NFSROOT/live/filesystem.dir
$NFSROOT is pretty useless outside make-fai-nfsroot IMHO ;)

Would be nice to have a variable for this. E.g. NFSCHROOT or NFSROOTDIR?

Btw, debian still has python 2.4 by default. What is blocking moving the

Hmhm, ok. I don't really see such behavior here. But maybe I didn't
understand the test case. What should I do? Maximize a xfce4-terminal
window, then switch to another desktop, then switch back?

No, it’s simple. Launch up an xfce4-terminal window and just resize it. It
should be very slow compared to before.

 Then
xfce4-terminal uses a lot of cpu? Did you check this in `top`? Is the
load continuous or does it stops after the switch?

Actually the one who’s taking all CPU cycles while resizing is X itself.
Xfce4-terminal itself takes almost no CPU cycles at all.

This makes me believe that this is related to X.org 7.3. Too bad I can’t
downgrade to verify this.

All the replacements happen in dists/. I've actually had

as the 1 or 3 rsync version, which is in the order of a few seconds.

That's good, your I/O subsystem can handle the trawling each time, it's
probably all in memory cache. There are still plenty of systems out there
who don't have that luxury, and these usually also don't have too much
free space to keep the temporary data in, so we still recommend stages
to make sure.

Since a lot of users did not read the docs while upgrading and
filed bug reports about exim4-config failing to install due to a
malformed macro definition, update-exim4.conf.conf now checks
for DEBCONFsomethingDEBCONF strings anywhere in
/etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template or recursively /etc/exim4/conf.d
and barfs if such strings are found. This check - as a feature - also
includes files that would normally be excluded by

Bug#445211: installation-report: Kernel panics every time I try to boot it.

Quoting Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I suppose that I could -- if I had a floppy drive in the machine!! ;)

Bug#445360: rxvt reproducibly crashes with certain mutt behaviour

2007-10-05 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: rxvt
Version: 1:2.6.4-10
Severity: grave

Hi,

Certain niche actions in mutt have been reproducibly crashing my rxvt
since I've upgraded to etch.

Here's a test case:

* open rxvt
* run mutt -f rxvt-bug.mbox
* move up-arrow to get the first of the two messages
* press enter (this shows the message, and the message that PGP key sig
  can't be verified)
* press j (this would normally move you to the next message)
* rxvt dies with SIGSEGV

This has bitten me at least three times in the past few months, and I'm
really tired of the data loss... yes, perhaps a small one (mbox flags),
but still.

The same problem doesn't happen in mrxvt.

Debian-Edu: Skolelinux 3.0 Terra available for free download!

* Oslo - July 22., 2007

Skolelinux 3.0 is ready.=20
This is an community release with comprehensive support from regional
and national projects in Germany, Spain, France, Greece and Norway. The
Skolelinux project is now a part of Debian under the name Debian-Edu.
Several other projects have made additional functionality to Skolelinux
tailored for national needs. Skolelinux now supports more than 50
countries.

Whats new in Skolelinux 3.0:

 * based on Debian 4.0 etch and therefore compatible to LSB 3.1, using
kernel 2.6.18 and KDE 3.5.5

 * Full support for networked Thin clients, LowFat (diskless) clients,
Workstations and Laptops. With the LowFat clients users got full PC=20
functionality with extremely low maintenance cost. The use of LowFat
clients gives full support for sound, video, USB memory stick's and DVDs
without the need for a local installation.

 * Skolelinux now got more than 80 applications selected for pedagogic
uses, supporting more than 50 languages. Many new applications are
introduced in addition to popular classic as GCompris, KDE-Edu,
Iceweasel (unbranded version of Firefox) and OpenOffice.org.

 * Installation is a breeze: Both the installation and source code for
all software are now distributed on a single DVD now supporting three
different processor platforms as i386, PowerPC and AMD64. This makes it
more easy to choose hardware, and to study the recipes behind the
software. Those interested can exercise their freedom to learn,
participate and share knowledge more easily. Installation CDs are also
available, but requires a working Internet connection for installation.

Hi.

I've had the same problem with simpleparse not being able to parse my
grammar files anymore in testing.

Building a package from SimpleParse-2.1.0a1.tar.gz with Vincent's patch
seems to solve the problem.

Hope this helps,

Bug#423014: console's last three lines become inaccessible once xdm start up

2007-10-05 Thread Edward Welbourne
Strange, I am not sure what to do with this bug then.
Understandable.

Will you have a chance to try the old CRT again?
No - it's been junked (see below for why), that's why I replaced it.
This might justify closing the bug as hardware fault.

Are you sure the bug disappeared because you switched the display
and not because of an upgrade at the same time?

The bug persisted through an upgrade shortly before, which broke X
support for the old CRT; and we (a sysadmin and I) were unable to work
out what was the matter with it; but a replacement display workd fine,
so we blamed the CRT. However, in investigating that, we were
routinely using the console, which *was* missing its bottom three
lines.

So I don't believe the disappearance was due to the software upgrade.

Eddy.

Bug#445358: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_LIB3DS

2007-10-05 Thread Matthew King
package: lib3ds-dev
version: 1.2.0-4.2

The first (real) line of lib3ds.m4 needs to be changed to:
AC_DEFUN([AM_PATH_LIB3DS],

To stop aclocal complaining. This change has no problems with aclocal
1.9.6 (and autoconf 2.61). I can't speak for earlier versions of these
tools but the change is minor enough that I can't see any possible
problems.

The complaint in question is:

/usr/share/aclocal/lib3ds.m4:4: warning: underquoted definition of
AM_PATH_LIB3DS
  run info '(automake)Extending aclocal'
  or see http://sources.redhat.com/automake/automake.html#Extending-aclocal

Is it one of the official Etch image, or one of the daily builds?

Is your DVD drive connected through SATA?

Having a motherboard based on i965 myself, I remember that I had to
fiddle with some BIOS settings to get my drives recognized (switching
from AHCI to Legacy mode).

If you are trying to install Debian Etch (the current stable release),
you can also try the unofficial images made by Kenshi Muto available at:

These images contain a newer kernel than the official Etch images that
is known to support more SATA drives.

During instalation, I choice the portuguese language and the type of keyboard.
Everyrthing normal and when the I get the CD-ROM item, I got the problem. I

  Security Testing Team?

No idea, should it? It got added like that back in may 2006, and if
you as member are not sure about if it should be this or that, how is
the web team supposed to know?

So, I rather send the question back - shall it be changed? Please get
a concensus within the team, though.

This is rather a grammar issue than a consensus issue or a
matter of taste.

Look at:

So please change.

I would really wonder if you talk about this team with
saying security testing team.

Kind regards

Bug#445372: python-hk-classes: Doesn't work with python 2.5

2007-10-05 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: python-hk-classes
Version: 0.8.3-2
Severity: important

Hi,

python-hk-classes, as currently packaged, doesn't work with python 2.5.
It lists XS-Python-Version: 2.4 in debian/control.

If it really only supports version 2.4 (which is hopefully unlikely),
please consider switching to a specific python2.4-hk-classes package.

Otherwise, please migrate to XS-Python-Version: = 2.4 so that it can
build with 2.5. It would also be nice to switch to a multi-build system
so that the 2.5 version is built right now.

Thanks.

Bug#445370: python-gammu: No dependency on python

2007-10-05 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: python-gammu
Version: 0.22-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Python policy

This package doesn't depend on python. This is a serious problem because
python can be updated to version 2.5 without python-gammu noticing,
making it stop to work.

This is probably just a matter of adding ${python:Depends}.

Bug#418774: dash gives Syntax error: Bad substitution on valid syntax

2007-10-05 Thread Paul Smith
Since the expansion of '/' is not defined by POSIX, dash is
certainly within its rights to abort rather than fail silently.

As Micah points out, IF dash needed to expand the reference containing
the / then you would certainly be correct. However, the reference is
contained in a part of an if-statement which is never invoked:

 /bin/sh -c 'if false; then d=${foo/bar}; fi'

Note the if false; The POSIX spec, in the sections we have quoted
above, is clear that this should NOT be an error, because that reference
is never expanded.

Please re-open this bug so it can be fixed. Thanks!

Bug#445366: RFP: yauap -- simple gstreamer based audio player (with amarok integration over dbus)

2007-10-05 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: yauap
  Version : 0.2.1
  Upstream Author : Sascha Sommer
* URL : http://www.nongnu.org/yauap/
* License : GNU LGPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : simple gstreamer based audio player

Yauap is a simple commandline audio player based on the GStreamer multimedia
framework. There is also a DBus interface that allows yauap to act as a
backend for the Amarok audio player. Yauap is free software.

Rationale:
Amarok dropped it's gstreamer backend[1] a while ago. Novell announced
out-of-the-box support for mp3 decoding[2] in Amarok and Banshee, which has
previously been lacking because of unlicensed mp3 patents preventing
distribution of such software. This brought my attention to the solution,
yauap
With yauap Amarok will be able to use the mp3 decoder plugin for gstreamer
which Fluendo has properly received patent licenses for. This way other
legally-questionable alternatives available in Debian can be avoided.
Anyone packaging this should probably be familiar with Amarok and work
closely with its maintainers.

Bug#396510: wontfix

2007-10-05 Thread A Mennucc
tag 396510 +wontfix

This is the slogan of the mplayer development group;
to me it signifies a constant tension toward excellence, as is well
shown by the endless discussions in mplayer-dev-eng re: the
code improvement and fine optimization.

The motto of the Gnome web site is Gnome: The Free Software Desktop ;
and again this is not factually true, but is expressing their
goal of proposing the best desktop (according to their
definition of best).

So, I agree, that it is a bit emphatic, but that is the way it is, and
I prefer to keep it this way.

Bug#445367: Failing vol_id for some USB keys

2007-10-05 Thread Damien Caliste
Package: udev
Version: 0.114-2

Because of this bug, udev does not create the /dev entries (sda and
sda1) for my USB key (a Creative Muvo 128Mo). I solved it (see the end
of the mail) for my configuration. But here is the description of what
happen.

I log in a console to see kernel messages and also run udev with log in
'debug' mode instead of 'err'. After the key has been plugged, the
kernel send the usual messages about a new usb peripheral and report
that it will be named sda and has one partition sda1. All udev stuff is
working and the genuine entries are created in /dev (the entry by-path,
by-label...) until it comes to run 'vol_id --export /dev/sda'. Here the
kernel raise a problem of I/O access on block 256000 and the key is
removed by the kernel because of I/O errors. Finally, udev being aware
of this removal, delete the sda entry of /dev.

I stopped udev (/etc/init.d/udev stop), unplugged my key and replug it.
I create the nodes by hand ('mknod sda b 8 0' and 'mknod sda1 b 8 1')
and was able to mount the sda1 partition and read it correctly. Then, I
try to run '/lib/udev/vol_id --export /dev/sda' and it fails as in the
udev scripts, making the kernel rejecting my key. By the way, it works
perfectly on sda1.

I looked in the /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent.rules and vol_id is
called once at the end. I added then:
KERNEL==sd*[!0-9], SYSFS{removable}==1,
GOTO=persistent_storage_end
just after the line:
KERNEL==hd*[!0-9], SYSFS{removable}==1,
GOTO=persistent_storage_end
May I suggest to include this line in the official udev script if
vol_id is indeed made for scanning partition only?

So with the additional line, it works for me. But you may be interested
in finding why vol_id makes the kernel reject my key. If so please send
me instructions on what to do or what information you may need. I test
it for different kernels (2.6.18 and 2.6.21) and the behaviour was the
same, always related to vol_id from udev.

Best regards,

Damien.

  I read the NEWS.Debian.gz files for exim4-base, exim4-config and

 exim4-config:
 exim4 (4.67-4) unstable; urgency=low

Since a lot of users did not read the docs while upgrading and
filed bug reports about exim4-config failing to install due to a
malformed macro definition, update-exim4.conf.conf now checks
 for DEBCONFsomethingDEBCONF strings anywhere in
 /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template or recursively /etc/exim4/conf.d
and barfs if such strings are found. This check - as a feature - also
includes files that would normally be excluded by
 update-exim4.conf.

 Last sentence.

Ok, but may I ask why not just ignore the .dpkg-old files?

dpkg leaves them behind when you do upgrade the config files, meaning
there isn't any way to avoid fixing this problem by hand.

If nothing else could you specifically mention .dpkg-dist/.dpkg-old so
that a search for those keywords would find this clause?

When syncing with my Tungsten T3 gnome-pilot does not sync calendar
categories for some reason. Appointments created in Evolution show up as
'Unfiled' on the Palm and appointments created on the Palm show up with

Categories were created manually on the Palm and in Evolution.

Thanks for your bug report. The ECalendar conduit, which is responsible
for the synchronisation of the calendar of your PDA with the calendar of
Evolution, does not synchronise the categories.

This is not a bug, but I can see this is functionality you would like to
have.

You can configure the conduit to file appointments created on the PDA in
a specific category in Evolution though.

Bug#445363: nvidia-glx incompatible to xlibmesa-gl-dev

2007-10-05 Thread bug-nvidia-glx
Package: nvidia-glx
Version: 1.0.7174-3
Tags: patch

When one has nvidia-glx installed and compiles programs which use libGL,
compilation works but the resulting program often does not. Below an
example program.

The reason seems to be that when both xlibmesa-gl-dev and nvidia-glx are
installed, then the symlink /usr/lib/libGL.so is broken. Replacing this
link by a link to the correct libGL.so.xxx fixes the bug. (I think the
package nvidia-glx should care about this.)

I am using Sarge, but as far as I can tell, the bug is still there in
Etch.

Example program follows (code copy-pasted out of sdl examples and out of
extreme-tuxracer). Compile the program with

g++ -I../include -g test.cc -L../lib -lGLU -lGL  -lpthread -lSDL -o test

The program outputs

  vendor: (null)
  renderer: (null)
  version: (null)
  extensions: (null)

when it does not work and correct information after bugfix.

Bug#445364: tries to access /usr/sbin/xenman which does not exist

2007-10-05 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: xenman
Version: 0.6-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I don't know if 'normal' is an appropriate severity, but when trying to
run xenman with vnc, I get an error message on the console:

# Valid, writable configuration found, using /etc/xenman.conf
resetting last_error
sh: /usr/sbin/xenman: No such file or directory

After that, not much happens. I found that there's a mention of
/usr/sbin/xenman in the Python file:

# grep sbin /usr/share/xenman/src/xenman.py
xmf = os.popen('/usr/sbin/xenman --xendir')

But xenman lives in /usr/bin, so this does not work.
A small patch is attached.

Bug#444807: Etch installer does not detect my hard disks but Woody detected them

the names of the other floppies, namely cd-drivers.img,
net-drivers-1.img, and net-drivers-2.img, suggest they are only
relevant for cd installs or net installs, which I am not using.

So that's the problem. Even if the name is misleading, you will need at
least one of this driver images to access your hard disks.

Unfortunately, these floppies do not contain all the necessary
components to run the installer through the end. You either need to
get access to the other components and packages by read them from a CD
or from the network.

My plan is to boot from floppy, get a basic system working on the
Linux drive, then download all .deb's I need to the Windows drive,
because it is difficult to get dial-up Internet access in Linux.

This is doable, but not really straightforward. I'd like to explore
alternatives first:

 * Is your CD-ROM drive working? The netinst CD-ROM contains
everything you need to get a minimal system running. The CD1
contains everything you need to get a basic desktop system working.

 * Does your machine have USB ports? You might try to use an hd-media
installation then. IIRC, you can start an hd-media by using a floppy
disk if your BIOS does not support booting of an USB stick.

Bug#445380: dpkg-dev: dpkg-source cannot handle diff with space in file name

2007-10-05 Thread Marcel Toele
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.13.25
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Problem Description
===
When trying to create a source package from an upstream tarball, where the
debianization requires
patching of files with names containing spaces, the resulting diff.gz will be
incorrectly representing
such files. This results in an unusable source package, because 'dpkg-source
-x' uses the 'patch'
command to apply the diff to the extracted orig.tar.gz. Because patch does not
recognize the incorrectly
contained filenames, it does not restore the correct files.

Cause of the Problem

To support file names with spaces, the 'diff' and 'patch' commands use a
trailing tab character (\t)
after the filenames. Dpkg-source uses a manual diff on all files, when creating
the diff.gz. In doing
doing this, it manually assigns labels to be used for the files inside the diff
(using the -L option),
this circumvents diff's own undocumented trailing tab-character behaviour,
causing the above described
problem.

Solution of the Problem
===
The attached patch solves the problem, by appending a tab character (\t) to the
labels that dpkg-source
assigns using the -L option.

Bug#445371: amarok-engines: please provide gstreamer based alternative.

2007-10-05 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Package: amarok-engines
Severity: wishlist

Hello!

Amarok dropped it's gstreamer backend[1] a while ago. Novell announced
out-of-the-box support for mp3 decoding[2] in Amarok and Banshee with
OpenSuse 10.3, which has previously been lacking because of unlicensed
mp3 patents preventing distribution of such software. This brought my
attention to the solution, yauap

With yauap Amarok will be able to use the mp3 decoder plugin for gstreamer
which Fluendo has properly received patent licenses for. This way other
legally-questionable alternatives available in Debian can be avoided.

It would be great if (when yauap is packaged, see RFP bug #445366)
amarok-engines provided this alternative, preferably as the default
alternative if it's technically equivalent to the other backends.

Bug#445381: python-libavg: Doesn't work with python 2.5

Package: python-libavg
Version: 0.7.0-2
Severity: important

python-libavg, as currently packaged, doesn't work with python 2.5.
It lists XS-Python-Version: 2.4 in debian/control.

If it really only supports version 2.4 (which is hopefully unlikely),
please consider switching to a specific python2.4-libavg package.

Otherwise, please migrate to XS-Python-Version: = 2.4 so that it can
build with 2.5. As the package already has a multi-build system, it
should also be immediately ready for the 2.5 transition.

Hi,

this package depends on python2.4, because the __jpilotmodule.so module

Furthermore, despite being able to build several versions, the package
uses XS-Python-Version: current for no reason. Please switch to
XS-Python-Version: all instead or specify a range of supported
versions.

Thanks.
