Bug#446715: #446715 Could not load 18pt font font.ttf

2007-10-16 Thread Martín Ferrari
tags +pending
thanks

Hi,

I found the problem. It was a typo in upstream (+= written as =+)
which prevented qonk for finding the font in the correct directory. It
worked because it has a fallback to look in the ./data directory, and
when I was testing this, I was sitting on the source directory.

I fixed this and it's pending for an upload.

Thanks.

Bug#445565: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Bug#445565: Header glplib.h missing from package libglpk-dev, version 4.22-1]

* Andrew Makhorin [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-10-15 18:12]:

Currently lib_free_env is not api routine, however, if necessary, one
could call it as _glp_lib_free_env that does not require glplib.h to
be included in the source code.

Yes, one can, in principle, call any function present in libgplk.so
(remember our previous discussion about _glp_lib_xprintf). However, I do
not think we should encourage users to call non-API, inernal routines from
their programs.

All glpk routines always free all allocated memory, so if the
application program has deleted all problem objects, only one memory
block not longer than 1K remains unallocated.

This is probably the problem meant by the bug reporter.

If you think that in some cases this would be useful, I could make
 lib_free_env available on api level.

Yes, I think such a cleanup routine will be useful in the API, insuring that
no allocated blocks are left behind.

Thanks,

 Here it is.

Can you try with xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.195-2 currently in
experimental ?

I would bet you have some 3D running in xscreensaver. Does it help if
you remove it and just use a blank screensaver (or at least 2D only)? If
so, could you to locate which exact screensaver causes the lockup?

I tried removing the SendCoreEvents option, and it didn't change the
behavior. I didn't reboot, but I did /etc/init.d/gdm stop followed by
/etc/init.d/gdm start. A single click still acts like a double click.
I also tried using an IceWM session to eliminate my GNOME settings as
a source of the problem. It behaved the same under IceWM.

If you want to be sure that X is sending 2 events instead of one, you
should try 'xev', it will report all X events.

If you want to be sur that your xorg.conf is correct, you should just
move it away. The server start without any config file and
auto-configure itself. If the problem remains, the problem is in the
server/driver. If not, it's in the xorg.conf.

I've seen this fix in upstream SVN but couldn't think of a case where this is

  code while writing Dpkg::Deps.

Hm, ideally it would be cool if lintian could use that down the road. I
know I hurt my head when trying to expand that code to support OR and full
version implication, and the fewer times that people have to write it, the
 better.

This will be possible. All Dpkg::* modules are currently installed in
/usr/share/perl5/ so they are globally available. However since we're
early in that process of modularization we don't want to make any
promise of API stability. And they sometimes lack good POD documentation.
It's up to you if you can live with a strong dpkg dependency in case of
incompatible changes.

BTW, I did my best to support all kinds of dependencies. But I'm sure a
review could be useful... :-)

Also, I really think that this bug should stay serious as long as
unionfs is the default, since it renders live-helper unusable by
default. I recommended debian-live to a friend of mine, and because of
this bug, his experience with it was obviously very disappointing.
Why serious? (I'm not questioning serious vs. grave although I think
seroius is typically for policy violations).

If it were a regression I would agree.

It is a regression in the sense that running lh_build used to build a
working image, and running it now on my unionfs config generates a
broken image.

Do you just want people to know that the code is in a state of high flux?

I understand that debianlive is under heavy development. But in that
specific case, I really don't see why it doesn't fail in a clean way,
instead of generating a broken image.

Why would that be a perl bug? If you want new software to be packaged,
you should file a RFP (Request For Package) against the wnpp package.

Please check http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp and then reassign this bug
and retitle it to change it in a proper RFP.

it would be 'none', not , otherwise it gets set to the default.

however; checking for unionfs or aufs cannot be made reliable; you can't
know how the user is implementing it, by oot modules or by custom kernel.

I'm not questioning that. I'm just saying that if one of
LH_LINUX_PACKAGES cannot be installed, it shouldn't continue to generate

The file xorg-server-1.4/config/x11-input.fdi should be copied to
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/. This will allow hotplug input to work as well as
possible with the current version of xorg.

AFAIK the reason it isn't installed by upstream is that it's just a stop
gap until HAL ships its own file(s) for this. Shipping it in X packages
now would go against this and might cause packaging churn down the road.

First of all, bittornado failed to upgrade. I think this was either
caused by a prerm failure or an unpack failure, leading in the end to
have only bittornado 0.3.18-3 installed. So there's probably a bug in
bittornado. It would be nice if you could tell us how

Secondly, when an upgrade fails, the old postinst is executed with the
abort-upgrade option. In this case, it seems a convention in debhelper
snippets not to do anything. *This is definitely a bug* for several of
them, including dh_pysupport. I will fix python-support for that issue
and report another bug against debhelper.

Thirdly, I notice that the postinst was executed before python-support
was considered installed. This is harmless as it should work when only
unpacked, but as bittornado has a Depends: on python-support, this looks
like a bug in dpkg.

Cheer up, four bugs in one :)

Bug#437700: rhythmbox doesn't switch between last.fm stations at once

2007-10-16 Thread Jonas Meyer
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.11.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #437700

I still get the behaviour that is described in the initial bug report with
the version from experimental. As an example I have two stations: Blumentopf's
Similar Artists and Frank Sinatra's Similar Artists. The first is german
Hiphop. If I click on Blumentopf's while Frank Sinatra's is still running
I'll get another Song similar to Frank Sinatra. unless I click on Blumentopf
a second time. As far as I can tell switcingbetween two stations immediately
never works.

Bug#446777: xserver-xorg-core: Dell laptop screen brightness FN keys don't work

2007-10-16 Thread Marcus Better
Are you sure this is an ATI problem? I just got exactly the same problem with
my Thinkpad R60 that uses an Intel graphics adapter. However I also update my
kernel regularly (now using 2.6.23-rc9) and initially assumed it was related
to the new thinkpad-acpi driver.

In my case the brightness keys also work in console mode.

 Hello,

I really like the opportunity to directly input paths into the file
dialog. This works great in the gimp. For exampe in gimp I
input /usr/share/images into the gtk file dialog, press enter and I'm
 taken into that directory.

This does not work with gnome-appearance-manager and it would be nice if
 it would.

Well, this works here. You need either to click the icon in the upper
left corner of the dialog box, or to type something starting with a
slash.

I've seen this fix in upstream SVN but couldn't think of a case where this is

And it looks to be exploitable only with MSIE with disabled UTF-8 urls.

Bug#446455: ara: 'Status:' regular expression problems

2007-10-16 Thread A. Costa
On Sun, 14 Oct 2007 16:07:49 +0300
George Danchev [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I believe that (No packages) is fine when no selectable packages are
found, OTOH ara exists with a non-zero code when is really confised
and can't proceed, for instance ara -no_such_option ; echo $?

Well (No packages). output helps a little, as I really hadn't
noticed it.

Still, the question is how *nix search utils should act. Classic
example, 'grep':

# look for y
% echo yes | grep --quiet y ; echo $?
0

# look for n
% echo yes | grep --quiet n ; echo $?
1

Those exit codes make shell scripting easy:

% echo yes | grep --quiet n echo do stuff || echo don't do stuff
don't do stuff

Compare that to parsing a returned string:

# does any package provide a mail-reader?
% [ $(ara -list 'Provides=mail-reader') = '(No packages).' ] echo
yes || echo no
yes

The string (No packages). is specific to 'ara', (but not mentioned in
'man ara'), so programmers unfamiliar with 'ara' must first learn how to
write such code, whereas any shell programmer should already know about
using exit codes.

Several Debian package search utils currently lack 'true/false' exit
codes:

# look for a string that isn't there.
% apt-cache search nyarlathotep ; echo $?
0

% feta search nyarlathotep ; echo $?

Running: apt-cache search nyarlathotep
0

% wajig search nyarlathotep ; echo $?
0

But in recent years there's been some progress:

% dglob nyarlathotep ; echo $? # exit code added in 2006
1

% dlocate nyarlathotep ; echo $? # exit code added in 2007
1

% dpkg-query --search nyarlathotep ; echo $?# added in
dpkg: *nyarlathotep* not found.
1

(I guess this should be a separate 'wishlist' bug.)

Bug#446853: /bin/dd: inconsistent records out and bytes copied

2007-10-16 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5.4
Severity: minor
File: /bin/dd

In this example, /dev/sde1 is a Flash card with, indeed, 2.1GB of space.

$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sde1 bs=512b count=4013650
dd: writing `/dev/sde1': No space left on device
7840+0 records in
7839+0 records out
2054988800 bytes (2.1 GB) copied, 199.649 seconds, 10.3 MB/s

If it really copied 2054988800 bytes, it should have printed 4013650 records
out. If it really only copied 7839 records of 512 bytes each, it only copied
4013568 bytes. (Given the time elapsed I believe the byte count. I note that
7839 * 512 is suspiciously close to the correct number of records copied. Is
something getting divided by something else once more than it should be, maybe?)

Bug#446724: SAME SITUATION - initramfs-tools: creates broken initramfs image as reported on Bug #445688

Bug#446854: 'man grep' incoherence: ...the exit status is 2 if an error occurred, unless...

2007-10-16 Thread A. Costa
Package: grep
Version: 2.5.3~dfsg-3
Severity: normal

% man grep | grep -nA 1 But the exit status
584: otherwise. But the exit status is 2 if an error occurred,
unless the
585- -q or --quiet or --silent option is used and a selected line is
found.

It's not clear what that sentence means. Up to the comma is OK, but
what follows the conjuction unless is confusing. It seems to be
saying that the '2' exit code somehow depends on the '-q' flag, or
perhaps that a '1' exit code takes precedence over a '2' exit code.

Test:

# do a true search with a bogus option
% echo yes | grep --fubar --quiet yes ; echo $?
grep: unrecognized option `--fubar'
Usage: grep [OPTION]... PATTERN [FILE]...
Try `grep --help' for more information.
2

Apparently the '--quiet' option combined with a found line does
NOT effect the '2' exit code.

Attached is a patch for the whole paragraph.

Current:

Normally, the exit status is 0 if selected lines are found and 1
otherwise. But the exit status is 2 if an error occurred, unless the
-q or --quiet or --silent option is used and a selected line is found.
Note, however, that POSIX only mandates, for programs such as grep,
   cmp, and diff, that the exit status in case of error be greater than 1;
it is therefore advisable, for the sake of portability, to use logic
that tests for this general condition instead of strict equality
   with 2.

Suggested revision (attached):

The exit status is 0 if selected lines are found, and 1 if not found.
If an error occurred the exit status is 2. (Note: POSIX error handling
code should check for '2' or greater.)

Hope this helps...

Bug#446855: linux-image-2.6.22-2-amd64: problem with window scaling, again :(

2007-10-16 Thread Francesco Potorti`
Package: linux-image-2.6.22-2-amd64
Version: 2.6.22-4
Severity: normal

I observe this problem with 2.6.22-amd64, 2.6.20-i386, 2.6.18-amd64, but
not 2.6.15-i386. Try

 wget www.copyleft-italia.it

and you should see it hang with the newer kernels after the GET. The
symptoms are similar to those described and explained in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=267342, but this may
be a different problem, as 2.6.15 works. As usual, the workaround is

 echo 0 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_window_scaling

as root, and

 net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling = 0

in /etc/sysctl.conf.

Bug#446825: Agree

2007-10-16 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi all,

The current version of ghostscript may indeed confuse users since it
does not provide output device for X11 while it claims to do so. Let
ghostscript not to provide gs and gs-*, however, may not be a final
solution. The main reason is that the original gs-* packages are in
fact not splitted into two versions at all: X version and non-X
version. Therefore, given the new packaging policy, the packages,
which depend on gs or gs-gpl or gs-esp, have to be repackaged now;
each package must know whether it needs X11.so or not and then depends
on ghostscript-x or ghostscript. This solution is clean but time
demanding.

By the way, a suggestion for the names of packages: is it possible to
change ghostscript-x to ghostscript, and rename ghostscript to
ghostscript-nox? This naming policy may be more consistent with other
debian packages. e.g., vim and vim-nox, emacs22 and emacs22-nox, etc.

Thanks.

Bug#446856: debhelper: postinst snippets not running on abort-* cases

2007-10-16 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: debhelper
Version: 5.0.57
Severity: normal

Hi,

it looks like some of the postinst/prerm snippets lead to broken
packages when an upgrade fails.

When the prerm, run in the upgrade case, removes something, and the
unpack phase then fails, the old postinst is re-run, but it will do
nothing as all snippets are checking for configure and not
abort-upgrade.

This is at least the case for the gconf snippets, but it looks this is
also true for doc-base, gconf, info, sgmlcatalog and xmlcatalog.

The same could be said for the abort-remove case, but its occurrence is
very unfrequent. In this case, all commands with a prerm snippet seem
affected, though.

What is the reason for running the commands only in the configure
case? Is there something I'm missing?

Cheers,

Bug#439390: lintian: error debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error

2007-10-16 Thread Russ Allbery
tags 439390 moreinfo
thanks

Hi Dmitry,

Some time back, I sent you the following reply with respect to this bug.
Did this make sense? Are you still having problems with this lintian tag?
Please let me know.

| Dmitry E. Oboukhov [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
|
| I don't understand why you'd ever run make distclean, ignoring errors or
| not, if the Makefile doesn't have a distclean target. If the Makefile
| doesn't have a distclean target, why wouldn't you just remove that line
| from debian/rules?
|
| There is no mention of distclean target/call in Makefile and
| debian/rules. But lintian nevertheless produces a warning.
|
| Could you show me what line of your rules file it's warning about, then?
| I don't understand the problem that you're reporting at all.
|
| This problem is rather political than technical.
| Many DDs conceive lintian messages too seriously and want lintian
| recommendations to be fulfilled before upload. For all that they do not
| accept the variant with overrides.
|
| If the distclean target is absent, then fulfillment of lintian
| recommendations leads to the necessity of making a patch on Makefile.
|
| I'm afraid that your diagnosis of what's wrong is probably wrong. This
| warning isn't about running make distclean, and it's not triggered by the
| lack of a distclean target in your Makefile. It's produced by a very
| particular command in debian/rules that's bad practice and has a simple
| replacement. It's possible that it's triggering on a line that it
| shouldn't trigger on. I need to know more about the package and the line
| that's causing the error to understand what the problem really is.

Bug#446859: udev: net hotplug agent not working with /etc/../interfaces 'allow-hotplug eth?'

2007-10-16 Thread Krzysztof Matusik
Package: udev
Version: 0.114-2
Severity: normal

When plugin on or off the ethernet cable I can see kernel reporting this
actions but no
actions are taken regarding turning the eth? interface on or off to follow the
state of
the cable.
When I plug in the cable no dhcp--client actions are performed.
When I unplug the cable the eth1 interface is still there.

I suppose this may be problem with netbase package as well.

nscd keeps still crashing, even with persistent set to no, so
no disk cache is be written any more.

crash output and nscd.conf is attached.

Please tell me what else I need to provide to debug this issue

Bug#443509: menu policy checks may be ahead of their time

2007-10-16 Thread Russ Allbery
Peter Eisentraut [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: lintian
 Version: 1.23.34
 Severity: normal

The menu policy checks such as menu-item-uses-apps-section tell me to
check Debian Menu sub-policy 2.1. But the web site and the current
debian-policy package still contain what is presumably considered the
old version of the menu policy, which contains an Apps section. There
is no information in the obvious places that tells what this new menu
policy is supposed to be or what authority it carries.

The problem here, unfortunately, is Policy. The new menu policy is
available in the menu package and is already being implemented, but Policy
is lagging way behind reality (and not just in this area).

Need more hands

Our documentation is therefore in wretched condition, but I believe that
lintian is still correct so far as that goes, and I don't want to hold up
the menu transition just because Policy isn't cutting it.

Bug#446860: autofs calls fsck, though it should not

2007-10-16 Thread Marc-Jano Knopp
Package: autofs
Version: 4.1.4+debian-2
Severity: normal

Although checking an ext3 file system is

1) by default off:

   ,[ mount(8) ]---
   |
   | Mount options for ext2
   |check=none / nocheck
   | No checking is done at mount time. This is the default.
   [...]
   | Mount options for ext3
   |The `ext3' file system is a version of the ext2 file system which
has
   |been enhanced with journalling. It supports the same options as
ext2
   [...]
   |
   `

   and

2) explicitly forbidden:

   ,[ /etc/auto.backup ]---
   |
   | 0 -fstype=ext3,nocheck,check=none,errors=remount-ro
:/dev/mapper/vg01-lvbackup0
   |
   `
(invoke-rc.d autofs reload and even restart afterwards)

autofs happily checks the file system:

,[ ps axf ]---
|
| 372 ?S 0:00 \_ /usr/sbin/automount
--pid-file=/var/run/autofs/_backup.pid --timeout=1 /backup file /etc/auto.backup
| 373 ?D 0:13 \_ /sbin/fsck.ext3 -p
/dev/mapper/vg01-lvbackup0
|
`

At least it announces it via syslog, hooray:

,[ /var/log/messages ]---
|
| Oct 16 09:36:35 pc11 automount[5311]: /dev/mapper/vg01-lvbackup0: clean,
626072/30523392 files, 32951600/61031424 blocks (check in 5 mounts)

| Oct 16 09:39:24 pc11 automount[7015]: /dev/mapper/vg01-lvbackup0: clean,

| [...]
| Oct 16 09:39:34 pc11 automount[7063]: /dev/mapper/vg01-lvbackup0 has been
mounted 22 times without being checked, check forced.
|
`

A tentative remedy is adjusting the maximal mount counts and check intervals
using tune2fs, but this would affect all systems the external drive gets
connected to, while the mount option check=... affects only the current
system, so the unexpected and undocumented run of fsck should be prevented
at first.

Bug#446861: /etc/init.d/squid fails to start when using COSS storage method

2007-10-16 Thread Stig Sandbeck Mathisen
Package: squid

When using the following storage methods in /etc/squid.conf:

cache_dir coss /dev/mapper/iostat-squid 1024 max-size=131072
cache_swap_log /var/spool/squid/%s
cache_dir diskd /var/spool/squid 3500 64 256

The following thing happens on start:

Bug#446451: phpmyadmin: CVE-2007-5386 XSS vulnerability

2007-10-16 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
severity 446451 normal
thanks

On Tue, October 16, 2007 09:40, Michal Čihař wrote:
And it looks to be exploitable only with MSIE with disabled UTF-8 urls.

Yeah... which is not the default. Only exploitable with a specific browser
with a specific environment is quite obscure.

BTW: There will be yet another XSS fixed soon (already fixed in SVN,
release will probably happen today), so you should probably wait with
 uploading new version :-).

For stable, I propose to not release a DSA for this issue (CVE-2007-5386)
specifically. If a DSA is needed in the future for another issue we can
include the fix then while we're at it.

I'll follow Michals advice for waiting for the new upstream before taking
more action here. It's not urgent currently.

Bug#446857: can't build qgis on arm

2007-10-16 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Francesco Paolo Lovergine [EMAIL PROTECTED] (16/10/2007):
 Package: gcc-4.2
 Version: 4.2.2-2
 Severity: grave

Hi.

 See
 http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=qgis;ver=0.8.1-2;arch=arm;stamp=1192513709

Well, hmm, from the log:
| Toolchain package versions: libc6-dev_2.6.1-3 gcc-4.2_4.2.1-5 g++-4.2_
binutils_2.18-1 libstdc++6-4.2-dev_ libstdc++6_4.2.1-5

Why is there no version for g++-4.2 and libstdc++6-4.2-dev?

 See URL:http://gcc.gnu.org/bugs.html for instructions.
For Debian GNU/Linux specific bug reporting instructions,
 see URL:file:///usr/share/doc/gcc-4.1/README.Bugs.

Either these instructions are outdated, or there's still gcc-4.1 there.
The same problem happens e.g. pour osgcal, see:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=osgalver=0.6.1-2arch=armstamp=1192052664

(And Aurélien Jarno confirmed the osgal package built fine with an
up-to-date toolchain.)

Putting [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the loop, it looks like the chroots might need to
be upgraded.

Bug#446862: phpmyadmin: default config allow mysql's [EMAIL PROTECTED] access from remote host

2007-10-16 Thread Anon Sricharoenchai
Package: phpmyadmin
Version: 4:2.6.2-3sarge5
Severity: critical
Justification: root security hole
Tags: security patch

Since, phpmyadmin is on apache, and apache can be accessed from remote
host, so remote host can access mysql's [EMAIL PROTECTED] via phpmyadmin.
This will break mysql security policy.

I would like to suggest the patch to set default mysql host, by
determining the network interface to which the client is connecting.

* If connecting by http://localhost/phpmyadmin, the mysql host will be
 'localhost'.
* If connecting by http://hostname.hostdomain/phpmyadmin, the mysql host
  will be 'hostname.hostdomain'.
* If php can't determine client information; for security reason,
'localhost.localdomain' will be set as mysql host. (By default,
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' will get the same privileges as other
remote root access, '[EMAIL PROTECTED]', in mysql.)

This will make phpmyadmin to be able to serve remote access, while not
breaking security setting in mysql. One can still leave blank password
in mysql's [EMAIL PROTECTED], by not worrying about it can be remotely
accessed.

The attached file is the patch for version 2.6.2-3sarge5 and 2.9.1.1-4.

Bug#446864: missing dep on libxpm-dev (or spurious -lXpm in .la file)

2007-10-16 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: libt1-dev
Version: 5.1.1-1
Severity: serious
File: /usr/lib/libt1x.la

Compiling against libt1-dev fails if libxpm-dev is not installed. Either
it should be declared as a dependency of libt1-dev, or the reference to
-lXpm in /usr/lib/libt1x.la file should be removed.

Severity serious since this bug induces FTBFSs in other packages, which
used to build just fine. As an example see the gtkmathview (source)
package and #441198 (note that the bug per se is not due to libt1-dev,
but in the bug log an example of the FTBFS induced by libt1-dev is
reported).

TIA,
Cheers.

Thanks for this investigation, I've just reported #446864 for the t1lib

Bug#418140: Net::SSLeay bugs

2007-10-16 Thread Florian Ragwitz
tag 418140 + confirmed upstream
kthxbye

Some debugging I just did lets me think that this bug is
IO::Socket::SSLs fault.

It calls

  Net::SSLeay::CTX_get_cert_store($ctx)

whereas $ctx is SSL_CTX * wrapper and passes the result, a X509_STORE *
to X509_STORE_CTX_set_flags, which doesn't expect a X509_STORE * but a
X509_STORE_CTX * as its first argument.

Therefor the X509_STORE_CTX the c function will get will contain
garbage, causing a segfault.

As I'm maintaining the debian packages for both modules I won't reassign
this bug for bow but contact the IO::Socket::SSL upstream maintainer to
see what's his opinion on this.

Please check for duplicates before filing a bug. This one has already
been reported ten times, and is a bug in xserver-xorg-core, not
xserver-xorg-input-kbd. I'm keeping this one against the kbd driver in
the hope that it will make it easier for other people to find it and
prevent new duplicates.

It should not be doing this. Quicksynergy is supposed to check whether
synergy{s,c} is running and update its GUI accordingly.

I think any existing synergy slaying should be delayed

Agreed. I will take a look at this issue as soon as possible.

2007-10-16 Thread Stephen Gran
This one time, at band camp, Anon Sricharoenchai said:
 Package: phpmyadmin
 Version: 4:2.6.2-3sarge5
 Severity: critical
 Justification: root security hole
 Tags: security patch

Since, phpmyadmin is on apache, and apache can be accessed from remote
host, so remote host can access mysql's [EMAIL PROTECTED] via phpmyadmin.
This will break mysql security policy.

Really? As you yourself noted, the default install doesn't give fewer
privileges to [EMAIL PROTECTED] over [EMAIL PROTECTED] I don't see a
privilege escalation for the normal install here, so I don't see how
this is a security problem or a grave bug.

I agree it's a useful patch to allow admins to decrease the privilege of
[EMAIL PROTECTED] if they prefer. I am not involved in phpmyadmin
maintenance, so I won't do any bug triage beyond this comment, but I
suggest downgrading to wishlist, retitiling I would like to be able to
discover if this is a remote connection, and removing the security tag.

Take care,

Bug#446870: zim: Replaces existing symlinks by real files when writing changes on a page

2007-10-16 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: zim
Version: 0.20-1
Severity: normal

I like zim to be able to quickly edit somes notes like TODO lists. I tend
to keep all my TODO lists grouped in a single zim repository but in many
cases I want a copy of that TODO list stored in the corresponding
project directory.

Up to now I stored the TODO list in the project directory and simply
created symlinks in the zim repository and it worked fine. But currently
zim removes the symlinks and replaces it by a real file. Please revert
that behaviour.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, it's great to see an upstream active in the Debian BTS! I hope you
have noticed the bug that I just submitted. :-)

But you must know that the bug submitter doesn't receive a copy of the emails

Bug#446874: mime-type not identified

2007-10-16 Thread vwf
Package: shared-mime-info
Version: 0.19-2

Beagle fails to index my pdf-files on content. For this the mime-type is
used. Beagle provides a tool to see how a file is recognised:
beagle-extract-content

Standard pdf-files (e.g. made using ps2pdf or Scribus) always return no
mime-type. E.g.

$ beagle-extract-content tk_thesis.pdf
Filename: file:///home/f/tk_thesis.pdf
Debug: Loaded 48 filters from /usr/lib/beagle/Filters/Filters.dll
Debug: No filter for file:///home/f/tk_thesis.pdf
(/home/f/tk_thesis.pdf) [application/octet-stream]
No filter for application/octet-stream

According to the beagle website, this is a shared-mime-info bug.

I run Debian Etch, upgraded from Sarge. I reinstalled most mime
packages. Ownerships and permissions look correct.

I agree with Stephen here. This is expected behaviour of phpmyadmin and
anyone installing it knowingly opens up local access to their database
from Apache, as that is exactly the point of the package. phpMyAdmin warns
you clearly if you have no root password set for MySQL to help avoid the
most blatant holes.

That MySQL does not set a root password on initial install is a debatable
issue but it seems to be a design decision by MySQL.

I'll investigate the patch later to see whether we can do something useful
with it, thanks. But it's not a security issue so I'm marking the bug
appropriately.

Bug#446877: attr(1) implies it only works with XFS

2007-10-16 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: attr
Version: 1:2.4.39-1
Severity: minor

attr(1) says: Extended attributes implement the ability for a user to
attach name:value pairs to objects within the XFS filesystem.

In fact, other file systems can use extended attributes. I suggest you
change within the XFS filesystem to on supported filesystems,
including ..., and put a list of the commonest file systems that
support extended attributes. Or if most of them do, simply write on
supported filesystems. Most commonly-used filesystems support extended
attributes. or Most filesystems used on fixed media support extended
attributes, which I suspect is closer to the truth. Or simply stop
the sentence at supported file systems.

By the way, with reference to bug #304765, a few words in attr(1) to
the effect that the file system must be mounted user_xattr would be
helpful. For example:

In order to use user attributes, the filesystem must be mounted with
the user_xattr option (see mount(8)).

You could put this as the last sentence of the first paragraph of
attr(1). I think then you could safely close bug #304765.

Bug#446879: kernel-package: make-kpkg kernel_image fails on upstream 2.6.23 when CONFIG_XEN is defined (new Xen paravirt_ops)

2007-10-16 Thread Ben McKeegan
Package: kernel-package
Version: 11.001
Severity: important

The upstream 2.6.23 now includes support for running under the Xen hypervisor.
Defining CONFIG_XEN enables support for the Xen paravirt_ops interface.

However, this is not the same implimentation as was previously available as a
patch and is not a seperate architecture. The key differences are described
here:

http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2007-07/msg00622.html

With 2.6.23, kernels built using CONFIG_XEN can be booted natively (i.e. on the
real
hardware, with no hypervisor). However, when the CONFIG_XEN option is present
in
.config, make-kpkg bombs out with an error trying to build the non-existant xen
architecture (see below).

I have marked this bug as important because even without specific support for
Xen
kernel packages, make-kpkg should not fail to build a native kernel package
when this option is enabled. If kernel-package were simply to ignore the
presence
of the CONFIG_XEN option it would at least be able to build standard natively
bootable
packages.

Note that to create a package that can be used for native and Xen operation you
just need
to save the vmlinux file in addition to the bzImage since Xen's domain builder
is
incompatible with the bzImage format.

Bug#446876: w3-recs: [patch] register the recommendations with devhelp

2007-10-16 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: w3-recs
Version: 20070917-1+smcv
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

It's quite easy to register HTML documentation with devhelp, the GNOME
documentation browser. I attach a patch which does this for the W3C
recommendations in w3-recs.

The .devhelp file is generated in a rather simple-minded way - it treats
all the W3C RECs as a single book, with each recommendation as a chapter
and no internal links - but I think it's still useful.

Bug#446883: Compatibility with SLURM

2007-10-16 Thread oliva . g
Package: mpich
Version: 1.2.7-4

It would be desirable to add SLURM support to mpich. SLURM stands for
Simple Linux Utility for Resource Management, it is an open-source
cluster resource management and job scheduling system. SLURM recently
entered the Debian system as slurm-llnl package.
To add support to MPICH you will need the patch available here.

Bug#445565: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Bug#445565: Header glplib.h missing from package libglpk-dev, version 4.22-1]

2007-10-16 Thread Andrew Makhorin
All glpk routines always free all allocated memory, so if the
application program has deleted all problem objects, only one memory
block not longer than 1K remains unallocated.

This is probably the problem meant by the bug reporter.
It is. I thought the solution was to call lib_free_env...

In 4.22 you can call that routine as _glp_lib_free_env not including
glplib.h in your source code. In a next version of the package it will
be available on api level as glp_free_env.

You already reported this. See #431644. OOo does not own this file, You
 read Agustins mail, didn't you?
In fact, even if OOo is not installed
this file is created by any myspell/hunspell-dictuionary postinst script
 and by every dictionaries-common install/upgrade.

Just uploaded a new dictionaries-common that declares itself also owner for
that dir. I think that should allow us to get rid of this noise.

Bug#446886: ftp.debian.org: Please remove hannah from experimental

2007-10-16 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi

Unfortunately, I uploaded a binary package called hannah to
experimental, although a package with this name already exists in the
archive. The damage is minimal. There was no hannah version in
experimental, so I didn't overwrite anything. My hannah package is now
called hannah-foo2zjs. Could you please remove the binary package
hannah from experimental. Sorry for the mess.

Cheers
Steffen

Bug#446889: xemacs21 wrecks some unicode characters in existing text files

2007-10-16 Thread Helge Hafting
Package: xemacs21
Version: 21.4.20-2
Severity: normal

If I open a file with certain unicode characters then
xemacs21 will fail to display them. Saving the file will
replace those characters with question marks.

This makes xemacs21 (mule and non-mule) unfit for working on unicode
encoded text files.

Try this unicode test file for example:
http://www.w3.org/2001/06/utf-8-test/UTF-8-demo.html
The german quotes is destroyed, and some other stuff too.
The file displays fine in web browsers or xterm though.

I have LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8
My .xemacs/init.el:
(require 'un-define)
(set-coding-priority-list '(utf-8))
(set-coding-category-system 'utf-8 'utf-8)

I translate software using xemacs po mode. The po-files
are correctly marked as using utf-8. Still, xemacs21 doesn't
support all of utf-8.

Getting an occational wrong character on the screen is not a big
issue for me - incomplete fonts do that all the time anyway.
But having xemacs21 wreck valid utf-8, replacing some characters
with ? is a show-stopper for my use. It'd be very nice if
xemacs21 would simply leave alone any character it doesn't understand,
so it isn't changed in output.

Other editors I use don't have this problem, but they don't
have a po-mode either. :-(

Bug#446887: CVE-2007-5416: possible vulnerability in drupal

2007-10-16 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: drupal5
Severity: important

Hi

The following CVE[0] has been issued against drupal. Could you please
check, if that is an issue in drupal.

CVE-2007-5416:

Drupal 5.2 and earlier does not properly unset variables when the input
data includes a numeric parameter with a value matching an alphanumeric
parameter's hash value, which allows remote attackers to execute
arbitrary PHP code by invoking the drupal_eval function through a
callback parameter to the default URI, as demonstrated by the
_menu[callbacks][1][callback] parameter. NOTE: it could be argued that
this vulnerability is due to a bug in the unset PHP command
(CVE-2006-3017) and the proper fix should be in PHP; if so, then this
should not be treated as a vulnerability in Drupal.

Thanks for your efforts.

Cheers
Steffen
