This version was accidentally uploaded to unstable.

This bug is meant to prevent it to enter testing while we're considering the

Bug#474339: dpkg crashes when the SE Linux file_contexts file doesn't match the loaded policy

2008-04-06 Thread Russell Coker
On Sunday 06 April 2008 01:18, Manoj Srivastava [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
  HI, I'm Ccing Manoj as he contributed the SELinux support in
  dpkg. Hopefully he'll be able to help on this bug.

 I will take a look at it, and see what I can do. However, this
  seems like an upstream bug in in a selinux library (libselinux1).

That could be. But if it was a bug in libselinux1 then I would have expected
it to occur somewhere else.

Also note that the first thing I did was to rebuild dpkg with the latest
packages in unstable, so it doesn't seem to be an issue of dpkg being built
against an old libselinux1. I vaguely recall a double-free bug in libselinux
that was fixed some time ago, but I don't think that's the case.

  Can you tell us what precise change you did ? So that we can reproduce
  it on our own machines if possible.

 Just edit the file:
  /etc/selinux/refpolicy-targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts

 and enter in a typo on one of the lines.

NB Anything with an invalid type will do. A typo that confuses two different
valid types won't trigger it.

 Russell has already informed selinux upstream of this issue;
  I'll be following the issue.

I don't expect upstream to help much unless we reproduce the bug in Fedora or
OpenSolaris.

Bug#466570: linux-2.6: Issue is due alsa-firmware

2008-04-06 Thread Rudy Godoy Guillén
Package: linux-2.6
Followup-For: Bug #466570

Hi, I've managed to get down to the issue and found out that this is related
to the removal of alsa firmware from kernel on Debian, since 2.6.23.

The reported issue is fixed by downloading the alsa-firmware package
from alsa-project.org, compiling the source and installing it into
/lib/firmware/yamaha

You need first to create the yamaha dir, which might not be present, and
to copy the .fw files. You'll also will be likely to want to install
the package alsa-firmware-loaders.

Maintainer can close this, as it seems an alsa bug. What would need more
atention here is to prompt user and let she know that it's likely required
to have the firmware files to get her hardware working.

Bug#474496: TKgate has an incorrectly placed binary (unstable)

2008-04-06 Thread Tony Attwood
Package: tkgate
Version: tkgate-1.8.7-1

When you run tkgate and start the simulation it says it cannot find
gsim in /usr/share/tkgate/libexec/ and apt-file lists location for
gsim as /usr/bin/gsim.
If you try to do anything in the simulation like flip a switch the
application crashes with the command line output ob_error:

Adding a symlink between the real binary and where the application
expects gsim corrects the problem.

Bug#474497: rhythmbox: doesn't handle renaming directories properly

Version: 0.11.5-1

When I rename a directory in my music collection, rhythmbox adds the

Bug#474498: rsyslog: Collect syslog messages until /var/ is unmounted

2008-04-06 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package:  rsyslog
Version:  2.0.4-1
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: runtime-problem

With the new feature of sendsigs to ignore some pids, it is now
possible to let the syslog collector keep running for a bit longer
during shutdown, and thus collect syslog messages related to umounting
remote file systems etc. To allow this, the pid need to be stored in
one of the files used by /etc/init.d/sendsigs to fetch pids to ignore.

I suggest symlinking to the pid file, to make sure no pid is passed to
sendsigs when no daemon is running. Here is a patch to do this.

With this patch, the rsyslog script can be executed after sendsigs
during shutdown. The change of dependencies make sure it will happen
when dependency based boot sequencing is used. It might be an idea to
change the sequence number used with manual sequencing too.

 Any clue?

In unstable this works because there is a newer version of GNU

after 0.92.

I will update the (Build-)Depends of jamvm.

 At most it renders one script unusable. dch != devscripts.

Well, I meant just that. But there was no such choice in 'reportbug'
tool to reflect the fact. And, by your logic, grave bugs would already
be meaningless for devscripts by definition, as no script can be equal
to devscripts. So, I chose grave severity to indicate the symptom of the
single script.

 You need to install libparse-debcontrol-perl. There's already a fix in

Thank you for your info. So, that means this bug can be tagged as pending?

Bug#474436: coreutils: ls --time-style=locale no longer works

2008-04-06 Thread Jim Meyering
Eric Cooper [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Package: coreutils

 The --time-style=locale option to ls no longer behaves as documented.

 $ locale

 $ ls --version
 ls (GNU coreutils) 6.10
 ...

 $ /bin/ls --time-style=locale -l passwd
 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 765 2007-12-07 12:42 passwd

 It worked fine in version 5.97:

 $ ls --version
 ls (GNU coreutils) 5.97
 ...

 $ /bin/ls --time-style=locale -l passwd
 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 765 Dec  7 17:42 passwd

Thanks for the report.

Interestingly, that does work for any non-English locale.
From comparing strace output with en_US and with any non-English
locale, this appears to be because coreutils doesn't provide
any English (en) translations (fyi, actually upstream gets its
translations from translationproject.org, and they don't
have English ones).

  $ ls /usr/share/locale/en*/LC_TIME/coreutils.mo
  zsh: no matches found: /usr/share/locale/en*/LC_TIME/coreutils.mo
  [Exit 1]
  $ ls /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_TIME/coreutils.mo
  /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_TIME/coreutils.mo@

It works fine for all other locales:

$ LC_ALL=fr_FR /bin/ls --time-style=locale -ldgo /
drwxr-xr-x 42 1024 mar 13 12:02 /
$ LC_ALL=de_DE /bin/ls --time-style=locale -ldgo /
drwxr-xr-x 42 1024 13. Mär 12:02 /

A work-around, from info coreutils ls:

  The `LC_TIME' locale category specifies the timestamp format.
  The default POSIX locale uses timestamps like `Mar 30 2002'
  and `Mar 30 23:45'; in this locale, the following two `ls'
  invocations are equivalent:

   newline='
   '
   ls -l --time-style=+%b %e  %Y$newline%b %e %H:%M
   ls -l --time-style=locale

Odd. I see that with LC_ALL=en, it *does* work:

LC_ALL=en ./ls --time-style=locale -dl /
drwxr-xr-x 42 root root 1024 Mar 13 12:02 /

I probably won't address this for the upcoming release, but if
someone else is interested, suggestions/patches are welcome.

Bug#461841: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the openswan package

2008-04-06 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of openswan and Debian translators,

Bug#474157: cron: fails to run jobs during DST time changes

2008-04-06 Thread Petr Kohts
  I'm a bit confused about the state of DST handling; there was a patch
  applied in Debian revision -53, but the patch is large (and combined
  with other changes) so the (intended) effect of the changes aren't
  entirely clear to me. As I recall, that patch also seemed to have
  been applied in the ISC release.

 As I can see here's the openbsd patch included into debian version -53:
 http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/usr.sbin/cron/cron.c.diff?r1=1.3r2=1.4f=h

 Thanks; my current understanding is that the original patch worked
 when the time was manually changed by 1-3 hours, but didn't work for
 real DST changes (the details aren't clear to me).

I guess you are right.

The core change is in set_time routine which
didn't detect DST change before because
time() always returns seconds since epoch.

Now they use localtime(), save tm_isdst flag
and check it. When the flag changes -- here comes
the DST change.

 BTW, I think there's a new bug here:
 http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/usr.sbin/cron/misc.c.diff?r1=1.8r2=1.11f=h

We might use the following code to calculate GMT offset
which seems cleaner to me than the original sendmail code
they are using:

int get_gmtoff(time_t *clock) {
  struct tm *ps;
  time_t tmp1, tmp2;
  ps = localtime(clock);
  tmp1 = mktime(ps);
  tmp2 = timegm(ps);
  return(tmp2 - tmp1);
}

Petya.

Bug#474508: DaemonInterface: 0.0.0.0 is not an interface

2008-04-06 Thread moritz
Package: bitlbee
Version: 1.2-3
Severity: minor

The default value of DaemonInterface is 0.0.0.0. This is not an
interface name but an IPv4 address. Please either rename the setting to
something like DaemonIPv4Address or use real interface names.

For an intermediary workaround, adding a note to the config file saying
that this option actually takes an IP address, not a network interface name may
be considered sufficient.

Thank you!

Bug#474518: qemu: Fail to boot with linux kernel 2.6.24

2008-04-06 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: qemu
Version: 0.8.2-4etch1

After lenny and sid went to the 2.6.24 kernel, I am unable to test d-i

me to work on Debian Edu.

When booting, I get this error from the linux kernel:

BUG:  Int 6: CR2

I find that INT 6 is #UD, undefined instruction.

Searching google sent me to URL: http://bugs.debian.org/464962 ,
indicating that this is a problem related to changes done in the -686
kernel that can be worked around by using the -486 kernel, but that
kernel is not selected by debian-installer by default.

Please add support the now used nopl instruction to the Etch qemu
release of qemu.

Happy hacking,

$ sudo update-bootsystem-insserv

Both /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.2 and /etc/init.d/postgresql-8.3 (and past and
future versions) provide postgresql. This was an intentional decision to
allow other scripts to refer to any available PostgreSQL server version.

Now if insserv doesn't handle that, we have a big problem, because it would
make the dependency based boot system unusable for systems that have
PostgreSQL installed and want to upgrade between major versions.

I didn't find anything in the LSB specification that would disallow that. So
I think insserv needs to be fixed.

  No big problem. After booting /var/spool/uptimed/records was gone
  (or overwritten) and only the current boot is now visible.
  Is the file opened at start and closed on normal shutdown
  (whith start-stop-daemon)?

No. The records file is only open when necessary. The daemon doesn't
write directly to that file either. It writes to a temporary file and
then moves it in place of the old records file. I don't see how that
could lead to file corruption unless you've been unlucky enough to
kill power exactly at the moment of the update... Which leads me to
think that the default update interval of 60s is probably overkill and
prone to that kind of situation...

  I suggest to open the file, write whatever and close immedately every time.

Which is exactly what is done, afaik.

  Suggested cronjob workaround (not tested):
  @daily  /etc/init.d/uptimed restart

How's that suppose to help?

Out of curiosity, what filesystem are you using on your system? In
particular what file system is used on /var/spool/uptimed ?

Bug#474509: xen: Please enable support for loading bzImages with v2.08 of the x86 bootloader protocol

2008-04-06 Thread Ian Campbell
Package: xen
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

This wishlist bug is the Xen domain builder counterpart to #473645.

Please could you consider applying this changeset to the Xen packages
http://xenbits.xensource.com/xen-unstable.hg?rev/db943e8d1051
The patch drops cleanly into trunk/xen-3/debian/patches.

I had to make a skanky hack to touch the new file before applying
the quilt series otherwise the file in .pc ends up with permissions
 (due to deliberate patch --backup behaviour) and the cp fails:
patching file tools/libxc/xc_dom_elfloader.c

Now at patch tools-x86-bzImage-domain-builder.diff
touch debian/stamps/source
cp -a debian/build/source debian/build/build-hypervisor_i386_i386
cp: cannot open

Is this an issue with a known workaround?

This will allow suitably up-to-date or patched kernels to be booted
directly from the bzImage. This includes any kernel package built with
the patches from #473645.

Cheers,
Ian.

Bug#474514: feh: corrupts jpeg images with file - edit in place - rotate

2008-04-06 Thread Marc Fournier
Package: feh
Version: 1.3.4.dfsg.1-1
Severity: normal

When rotating jpg pictures (90° clockwise), feh cuts a small margin from
the left and puts it on the right. It happens the other way round when
rotating CCW.

Here is an example of an image created with gimp, then rotated 90° with
feh: http://documents.epfl.ch/users/m/ma/mafourni/www/feh-bug.jpg

I noticed the size of the margin depends on the width-height ratio of
the image. With some width-height ratios, I was unable to reproduce the
problem, and with others it only happens when rotating 180°.

The problem doesn't seem to occur with tif, png and gif images. I
haven't tried any other formats.

Bug#474504: [qingy] changing to a virtual console kills X-session

2008-04-06 Thread David Andel

Package: qingy
Version: 0.9.6-2
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Since the last upgrade changing to a virtual console kills the running
X-session. Moreover, it changes everytime to the first virtual console,
no matter which one was chosen (like e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F6). It does not
depend on which getty (qingy or any getty) is running on the destination
console. Therefore, the problem seems clearly qingy only.

Bug#398809: hal: doesnt eject removable USB devices on unmount

Hi Sam,

On jeu, 2008-04-03 at 17:30 +0100, Sam Morris wrote:
 Hi Xavier,

 Do you know if the current version of HAL still has this problem? I
 suspect it doesn't because for quite some time now, when ejecting a USB
 disk in Nautilus, there has been a pop-up saying don't remove the
 device yet, it's not safe! that goes away once data has been flushed to
 the device.

That's not the same thing. The code behind this popup ensures all data
has been properly synced to the usb drive before unmounting it.
What's missing is a command to poweroff the usb port afterwards.

 Do you have any references about the correct way to safely remove USB
 devices on Linux?

eject /dev/sd? used to work, but it doesn't anymore.
echo 0 /sys/bus/usb/devices/???/power/state used to work too, but
apparently it has been removed from recent kernels, and I don't know
what's the new way of doing it.

I'll research a bit more about that.

Xav

Bug#474498: rsyslog: Collect syslog messages until /var/ is unmounted

2008-04-06 Thread Michael Biebl
Petter Reinholdtsen wrote:
 [Michael Biebl]
 Isn't this problematic (at least for start), as rsyslogd is in /usr
 (because it uses libz)?

 Yes. You are right. For starting, it should depend on $remote_fs as
 long as it need a mounted /usr/. I did not think of that. But to
 make sure it can start before /usr/ is mounted and after it is
 umounted, I would recommend moving it to /(s)bin/.

That would only be possible if libz was moved to /lib (which I can't
decide).
Also, there are plugins for rsyslog (like mysql or postgresql support),
which definitely require a mounted /usr, and those libs will surely not
be moved to /lib.
Right now, those plugins are in separate packages, so the rsyslog core
package (minus libz) could be installed to /sbin.
Problem is, that the LSB header is static (definitely a limitation of
this spec!). What would be required, is dynamic dependencies (i.e. if
plugin-foo is installe $remote_fs is require, otherwise $local_fs).

I don't see, how I can achieve what you want (given the plugin nature of
rsyslog) within our current limited init system.

Cheers,
Michael

OK. We will just have to live with the current behaviour, where
syslog messages reported after sendsigs is executed are lost. It is
the behavour of sysklogd too, so there is no regression.

Please remove default passwords as provided by the configuration file.
This can become a security issue just too easily.

Instead, add hints to the configuration file as to which (if any) passwords
are required to have the daemon/service start up successfully and show a
helpful error message if it fails to start for lack of configured
passwords.

it  is certainly very useful.
Did you include the arpack patches and parpack ?

Best regards
C.

 Works for me as well. Indeed, I even was able to suspend to RAM while

 I should try now with these options and 0.7 but, at least for me, 0.8

 I'd say: go for 0.8

Well then, here is a second try. Difference to the last one is, that I

Bug#474442: iceweasel: no longer prefers application/xhtml+xml over text/html

On Sat, Apr 05, 2008 at 05:25:09PM +, brian m. carlson wrote:
 Package: iceweasel
 Version: 3.0~b5-1

 Iceweasel used to prefer application/xhtml+xml over text/html. Now, it
 prefers them equally, and specifies text/html before
 application/xhtml+xml, which leads to servers such as Apache serving
 text/html in preference to application/xhtml+xml.

 XHTML is a newer standard which supports features such as XML
 namespaces, embedded SVG, and embedded MathML. HTML supports none of
 these. Additionally, there are sites that have additional features
 enabled in their XHTML versions, and provide an HTML version to deal
 with the brokenness that is Internet Explorer. XHTML is obviously the
 superior choice.

 Please revert this change.

 Before:
 text/xml,application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5
 Now:
 text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/8;q=0.8

See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=309438 and
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361892 for how it came to
this value. Especially, read the last comments in the first one.

Anyways, I do agree this is broken for the simple case of Apache
Multiviews, and I think they should have reordered in
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361892

 Isn't this problematic (at least for start), as rsyslogd is in /usr
 (because it uses libz)?

Yes. You are right. For starting, it should depend on $remote_fs as
long as it need a mounted /usr/. I did not think of that. But to
make sure it can start before /usr/ is mounted and after it is
umounted, I would recommend moving it to /(s)bin/.

Happy hacking,

 This bug is RC, hence the severity, according to the following Release Goal

 Attached is the a patch with a suggestion on how to fix this bug, but of
 course, as the package maintainer you might know better.

Hi,

Unfortunately, today ganeti needs xen to work, as other hypervisors are
not yet implemented.

Without xen, I don't think it makes sense to have ganeti unless we
expect the user to install his own xen kernel/tools. Do you think this
would be a reasonable expectation? (together with README.debian notes,
changes to the long description, etc. so that the users know what they
need to do).

thanks,
iustin

 error: Problems running insserv:
   insserv: script postgresql-8.2: service postgresql already provided!

Yes, to avoid surprises, I decided to let the check done before
enabling insserv refuse to convert if such settings are present. I am
not sure if it is the correct thing to do, but thought it best to err
on the safe side and stick with the existing boot sequence when such
setting is found.

 Now if insserv doesn't handle that, we have a big problem, because
 it would make the dependency based boot system unusable for systems
 that have PostgreSQL installed and want to upgrade between major
 versions.

 I didn't find anything in the LSB specification that would disallow
 that. So I think insserv needs to be fixed.

How do you believe insserv should behave when it encounter two
packages with different dependencies and the same provides header?
What dependency three should it build? I'm not sure, so I decided to
reject such configurations until it was clear to me.

The insserv program itself actually handle this (as in it generates
some boot order), but I am not sure if it is the correct one (as I am
not sure what would be the correct one). The code to reject such
situations is only in the code to check if it is safe to activate
insserv.

If the insserv behaviour is OK, the check for this can be removed.

Happy hacking,

Bug#474511: remove useless file /usr/bin/uninstall_zenmap

Bug#474502: delo: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2008-04-06 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: delo
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

 In unstable this works because there is a newer version of GNU

 after 0.92.

OK thanks, I thought packages were built in testing before being

Bug#474175: IPv6 support works well

2008-04-06 Thread Andrew McMillan
Hi,

I managed to add --enable-ipv6 into the configure script for this and
build it (on my Mips-based router with 32M RAM, running Debian from a
USB stick, so that was a challenge in itself).

The capture of IPv6 traffic is working just fine. so this really should
be a trivial build change.

Andrew McMillan.

Bug#474519: nginx: support Debian's /doc/ URL-to-directory mapping

2008-04-06 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: nginx
Version: 0.5.35-1~bpo40+1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

in the default installation of nginx, the /doc URL space is not
supported. I'd like nginx to support it, simply to not need to install a
different webserver to access package information. The attached patch
accomplishes that, and contains a hack to make gzip-compressed files
easier to use. It's only a hack because nginx does not support the
notion of an encoding (yet?).

Kind regards,
--Toni++

Description: header files for the embedded WSOLA algorithm
 WSOLA speeds up and slows down audio without altering the pitch.
 These header files are whats required to embedd WSOLA into your audio
 applications.
 These header files allow WSOLA to be incorperated into embedded (or normal)
 code base. This algorithm has a very small memory footprint (tens of
 kilobytes) and allows it to be implemented on embedded devices. It also has
 variable time scaling, allowing dynamic adjustment of audio playback speed.
 Please see the package 'wsola' for more information.

As mentioned on IRC I'm currently not able to reproduce that problem. So I'm
not able to work on this problem unless I have some more informations on how
to reproduce this.

Thanks in advance
