Problem: When monitor is connected using digital DVI cable (via supplied HDMI-to-DVI adapter) resolution is 1680x1052 (according to monitor's OSD; attached: xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log.gz). Image quality suffers, starting X only (`X', not `startx') gives A LOT of moire. With a regular analog cable resolution is correct. With TMDS Modelines seems to have no effect whatsoever, if DDC is disabled HorizSync and VertRefresh seems to be ignored and resolution is capped at 1280x768 (attached: Xorg-noddc.0.log.gz). Under Vista display works correctly, so it is probably not a hardware problem. More information can be supplied upon request. Is it better with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.3.0 from experimental (will require to upgrade xserver-xorg-core) or, at least something more recent than 2.1.0, for instance 2.2.1 from http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/rebuilds/intel-2.2.1-Xserver1.3/ ? I think it should be: SOURCES.LIST.D The /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory provides a way to add sources.list entries in seperate files whose names end with .list. since that is more grammatical, and the filename ending seems to only need to have .list, not sources.list, for apt to pick up files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d. It would be great if this change to try first, try other, then I get prompted and select yes. Perhaps it could look for identical textboxes to see if the login failed. Bug#478226: ifplugd: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update
Package: ifplugd Version: N/A Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. If you do not already use it, you might consider using the podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which requires time). podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-) Example use (from your package build tree): $ podebconf-report-po This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a mail to send to these translators (you can also use the --languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in Language-Team field). Bug#478225: ifplugd: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update
# Bcc: control merge 478226 478225 tags 478226 + moreinfo thanks Hi Christian, On 08/04/28 09:03 +0200, Christian Perrier said ... Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. The attached translation is the same as the one in Debian ifplugd svn [1] (except ofcourse an extra white-space on two lines that I fixed -- it was an error, e.g. see -a below). Or am I missing something? Hence tagging this as moreinfo. [1] http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/ifplugd/unstable/debian/po/fr.po -a Do not enable interface automatically\n -s Use stderr instead of syslog for debugging\n -b Do not beep (-U/-D Do not beep on interface up/down)\n [snip...] -a ne pas activer l'interface automatiquement\n -s utiliser stderr plutôt que syslog pour le débogage\n -b ne pas émettre de signal sonore\n When I saw this translation update bug, I thought that the above string about ifplugd beeping behaviour (which was one of the reasons I sent out a call for translations -- the other being reformatting the text to be on multiple lines) was also fixed. I now see the same behavior (gnutls-cli -s -p 25 localhost crashing during TLS handshake) with one of my own hosts, running a current Debian sid. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be reproducible, since a freshly installed Debian sid in a virtual machine does not exhibit this behavior. I am prepared to debug with the host showing the behavior and hope that it is still reproducible when you get back to me. Greetings Marc -- - Marc Haber | I don't trust Computers. Brice Using 2:2.2.1-1~lenny1 effect is the opposite: now, according to monitor's OSD, vertical resolution is 1 pixel less: 1680x1049 at 60Hz. Will try to install experimental later today. Regards, b. Bug#478230: snort: [INTL:fr] French debconf translation update
Package: snort Tags: l10n patch Severity: wishlist Quoting Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Hi, You are noted as the last translator of the debconf translation for snort. The English template has been changed, and now some messages are marked \fuzzy\ in your translation or are missing. I would be grateful if you could take the time and update it. Please send the updated file to me, or submit it as a wishlist bug against snort. Please notice that I have already integrated the updated (or new) Debconf translations some of you sent for the Snort package recently. However, the PO file provided by Christian Perrier was not complete and several strings were missing. I plan to upload a new Snort package next week. Here's my update. It has more strings than the PO file you sent me because I merged both my pending file and yours. I think that running msgmerge -U fr.po templates.pot will make the extra strings disappear. fr.po Description: application/gettext signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#455743: closed by Morten Werner Forsbring [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Bug#455743: fixed in cfengine2 2.2.5-1)
Hi, Werner Mark Sorry to reply this mail late. I just find time to do this job, and to test cfengine, I must set up a new test environment and bootstrap a new cfengine config, that's not easy. By checking Mark's svn commit (r524): http://svn.iu.hio.no/viewvc/trunk/src/nameinfo.c?root=Cfengine-2r1=498r2=524pathrev=524 Now I'm quite sure there's a new bug invoked which caused CFengine can only detect one interface's address. In function GetInterfaceInfo (nameinfo.c), Mark added a first_address var which been set to true at start: int fd,len,i,j,first_address = true; There's no other assignment to set this variable to true again but a chance to set it false: if (first_address) { first_address = false; strcpy(ip,inet_ntoa(sin-sin_addr)); snprintf(name,CF_MAXVARSIZE-1,ipv4[%s],CanonifyName(ifp-ifr_name)); AddMacroValue(CONTEXTID,name,ip); So this IF block can only run exactly ONCE, which caused global.ipv4[ethX] got only one interface's address, which depends the interfaces order on linux. For most cases, eth0 appear before eth1, so global.ipv4[eth0] is good but global.ipv4[eth1] cannot expand to any address because it didn't exist in cfengine's nameinfo list. For a quick fix, I attach a new patch which can be put into Debian package's debian/patches directory, or merge into cfengine trunk. I test it, and works for me. Please review it. Thanks, Chun Tian (binghe) Chun Tian (binghe) [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I have this editfiles class definition: editfiles: { /etc/default/snmpd ReplaceFirst ^SNMPDOPTS.*$ With SNMPDOPTS='-Lsd -Lf /dev/null - u snmp -I -smux -p /var/run/snmpd.pid ${global.ipv4[eth0]}:1185 $ {global.ipv4[eth1]}' } I found one of ${global.ipv4[eth0]} and ${global.ipv4[eth1]} cannot be expanded into right value, which depends my interfaces order on server. Hi Chun, thanks a lot for your diagnosis of this issue. I appreciate it. Your patch seems ok, and the most important thing is to have your test. If BASEDIR is set to something, then this directory will be the only file in $HOME/.ufoai/2.2 for example, which is silly. I agree that this is incompatible with the pure SVN builds and can cause problems, so I'm not totally against changing it back to base. Hi, Mark Thank you for your quick reply! That's pleasure to do a little contribute for you and the great Cfengine. Now I use GNU cfengine to manage hundreds of my Debian servers (most running etch), my Cfengine config files are very long and look like big programs. It's your software that let my everyday job much easier! Regards, Chun Tian (binghe) Hi Chun, thanks a lot for your diagnosis of this issue. I appreciate it. Your patch seems ok, and the most important thing is to have your test. I have applied this patch to the sources and we'll hope it works out. M Chun Tian (binghe) wrote: Hi, Werner Mark Sorry to reply this mail late. In function GetInterfaceInfo (nameinfo.c), Mark added a first_address var which been set to true at start: int fd,len,i,j,first_address = true; There's no other assignment to set this variable to true again but a chance to set it false: if (first_address) { first_address = false; strcpy(ip,inet_ntoa(sin-sin_addr)); snprintf(name,CF_MAXVARSIZE-1,ipv4[%s],CanonifyName(ifp- ifr_name)); AddMacroValue(CONTEXTID,name,ip); So this IF block can only run exactly ONCE, which caused global.ipv4[ethX] got only one interface's address, which depends the interfaces order on linux. Both preseeding of an encrypted password and of plaintext passwords are possible and thus both should be tested. So, this is a bug or a documentation error. I can reproduce this. I could immagine this is a limitation of the way display filters work, however indeed at least the documentation is misleading then. Bug#172436: Is it OK for the new policy wording to be a SHOULD?
Hi, I was looking at the currently proposed wording for this issue, and it says: --8---cut here---start-8--- Thus, every program that launches a web browser with an URL should use the BROWSER environment variable to determine what browser the user wishes to use. details of the content and handling of the BROWSER env variable elided --8---cut here---end---8--- This would mean that every program that does not already follow this directive would instantly turn buggy (conventionally, a violation of a SHOULD directive is a normal bug) The same rule has a MAY directive that provides an alternative: --8---cut here---start-8--- + Instead of implementing the above in every program that runs a + web browser, programs in Debian may be configured to use + file/usr/bin/sensible-browser/file. --8---cut here---end---8--- Has this been looked at already? How many packages will become instantly buggy? If the number is small, this wording may be acceptable as it stands. Bug#478240: emacs22: emacs hangs on automounted homes
Subject: emacs22: emacs does not find GNU manifesto and hangs on automounted homes Package: emacs22-common Version: 22.2+2-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch *** Please type your report below this line *** When setting up to automount home-directories, emacs hangs on startup. Reason is that it searches the GNU-manifesto in order to find its etc/ directory (normally in /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc). As it does not find the manifesto (file named 'GNU'), it continues to search in the compile environment. Since home is on automount, automounter now tries to find and mount the home directory of user rlp which takes some time... Workaround: touch /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/GNU now emacs starts as quick as ever. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-2.6.24.5.slh.1-sidux-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages emacs22 depends on: ii emacs22-bin-common 22.2+2-2 The GNU Emacs editor's shared, arc ii libasound2 1.0.16-2 ALSA library ii libc6 2.7-10GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgif44.1.6-4 library for GIF images (library) ii libice62:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libncurses55.6+20080419-1Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libpng12-0 1.2.26-1 PNG library - runtime ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libtiff4 3.8.2-8 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxmu62:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxpm41:3.5.7-1 X11 pixmap library ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii xaw3dg 1.5+E-15 Xaw3d widget set ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 compression library - runtime emacs22 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- Der GMX SmartSurfer hilft bis zu 70% Ihrer Onlinekosten zu sparen! Bug#456246: Rhythmbox does not save playlists when receiving sigterm
yes, it seems to work. the bug can be closed. On Wed, 16 Apr 2008 18:15:23 +0200 Sven Arvidsson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Thu, 2007-12-13 at 23:21 +0100, Ronney Meier wrote: When Rhythmbox receives SIGTERM it ends, but does not save the playlists. Since I often listen to music and use shutdown (init will send SIGTERM to the running processes) to shutdown the computer after a while, all changes i've made to the playlists are lost then. But also when I shutdown the computer over the gnome menus, i don't close rhythmbox by hand, since it's just an application running in the background... I think the expected behaviour of an application like Rhythmbox is to save the current playlist when receiving the SIGTERM. Bug#478167: ITP: cowpoke -- Builds a single Debian source package with a remote cowbuilder
On Mon, Apr 28, 2008 at 08:50:38AM +0200, Mike Hommey wrote: On Mon, Apr 28, 2008 at 03:02:27AM +0930, Ron wrote: Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Ron [EMAIL PROTECTED] Package name: cowpoke URL : git://git.debian.org/git/users/ron/cowpoke.git Do we really need a new package for a single script ? Well, that really all depends on whether other people are interested in having this available to hack on and use _today_. I needed it, or something like it now, nothing else like it seemed to already exist that I could install and use, and packaged it for my own use, for my own convenience. I didn't have to share it, but I did, and given that it got useful feedback, expressions of gratitude, and even patches to improve it, faster than it could even get accepted into the NEW queue, I'd say that I probably made the right decision at this stage -- to just make it available in the quickest and most user friendly way that I know. I could split it into several scripts if that would make the package more justifiable -- but I'm assuming that the letter of your question here doesn't quite capture the spirit of what you are really asking. I didn't have an existing package I maintain that it would have made sense to slip it into -- and didn't really have the time to try and engage people (who may not care at all about it) to adopt it when I was already 'stealing' company time to write it, package it, and give it away. By the time I'd done the work that _we_ needed, actually uploading it was really just a matter of letting it complete its test suite on itself. If it helped just one other person today, that tiny little bit of extra work payed off in delightfully disproportionate ways, and I feel good. I'm not sure the benefit of debating where it should go for a couple of weeks first would have rated so well. Can't that go in in with cowbuilder ? Maybe. I'd have no objection to that, but we'll have to talk to the cowbuilder maintainer. In the meantime, a little peer review can only help everyone make up their minds about where and if this belongs. I'd expect this will go through a few more revisions before a broader spectrum of people are happy it does all they need -- it won't hurt to not tie cowbuilder to a cycle of rapid updates and possible RC bugs while this initially shakes out. Even if it looks like something that cowbuilder might adopt today, I cannot guarantee it still will after other people start pulling and poking at it in other useful directions. In any event it will at least want its own binary package separate from cowbuilder -- since it's intended to run on machines that don't have cowbuilder installed, and with cowbuilder machines that don't normally have people actively hacking on them (and hence need this installed) -- most machines only want one or the other. If it stabilises and the cowbuilder maintainer is happy to include it in that source package, that would be great. But it would have been a little silly of me to preemptively fork cowbuilder to develop this. I am conscious of package bloat though, and if this package can be gotten rid of, either by merging with something appropriate, or me filing a removal request if it proves to simply suck and be useless, then I'll wave goodbye to it with the same sense of doing continued good that I uploaded it with. Sorry for the rant, but I do think about these things too ... and I figure if you've felt the need to ask, you probably want better answers than: 1) Yes. 2) I don't know yet. Cheers, Ron -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#429789: [Pkg-xen-devel] Bug#429789: peth0: received packet with own address as source address
Zitat von martin f krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED]: also sprach Adriaan Peeters [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008.04.25.1648 +0400]: And we have a virtual interface, called eth0, which should be used if xen's domain0 wants to communicate via network. eth0 is also part of this bridge. eth0 should have the mac adress of you real network interface. This is how I understood the Xen documentation indeed. Are you sure that eth0 (a bridge) has to have the actual MAC address and not peth0? eth0 is not the bridge. the bridge is normally called xenbr0. eth0 is a virtual interface, connected to xenbr0. peth0 is the physical device (eth0 on a non-xen system) and also connected to this bridge. peth0 has FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF as MAC address xenbr0 also uses FE:FF:FF:FF:FF as MAC address eth0 has the MAC address of the real interface If a bridge br0 has interfaces eth0 and eth1, which MAC address is used to communicate on network 0? Which one on network 1? Is it br0's or is it eth0/1's? In our case br0 (on a xen system it's xenbr0) has no ip address. A interface without an ip adress cannot be used for generating packets. Your question for eth0/eth1 is quite easy. It will use the routing table for a decission. If there is a routing entry for the destination, then it will use this routing information. If there is no direct routing info in the routing table, then it will use the default route generating new packets. The bridiging is not relevant at all for layer 3 stuff like routing. Linux will use the same logic as on a normal multi-homed system. This might get more obvious if you think about what a bridge actually is. A multiport-bridge (which we have in xen) is like a simple layer 2 switch. So there is no routing involved, just port switching logic which is build on arp/mac. So, if fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff can really be observed on the wire, then the routing information must be wrong and seems to use peth0 or xenbr0 instead of eth0. Or eth0 is not configured correctly and has a wrong arp adress. That's why I asked for all the ip route information. I guess there is something wrong in Adriaan's configuration. There is also some infos available in the xen wiki: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenNetworking#head-602e26cd4a03b992f3938fe1bea03fa0fea0ed8b --Ralph -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
