Bug#478218: O: cvs-buildpackage -- A set of Debian package scripts for CVS source trees.

2008-04-28 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I no longer use CVS, and have little time to spend on this
package, and the lack of use and testing on my part means this is
getting neglected, and is no longer actively maintained.

Anyone who picks this up will have to become upstream.

Bug#478196: G35 via TMDS (HDMI=DVI): wrong resolution

20.1 LCD (optimal resolution 1680x1050), Debian testing (Lenny), uname
 -a : Linux zen 2.6.24-1-686 #1 SMP Sat Apr 19 00:37:55 UTC 2008 i686

Problem: When monitor is connected using digital DVI cable (via supplied
HDMI-to-DVI adapter) resolution is 1680x1052 (according to monitor's
OSD; attached: xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log.gz). Image quality suffers,
starting X only (`X', not `startx') gives A LOT of moire. With a regular
analog cable resolution is correct. With TMDS Modelines seems to have no
effect whatsoever, if DDC is disabled HorizSync and VertRefresh seems to
be ignored and resolution is capped at 1280x768 (attached:
Xorg-noddc.0.log.gz). Under Vista display works correctly, so it is
probably not a hardware problem. More information can be supplied upon
 request.

Is it better with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.3.0 from experimental (will
require to upgrade xserver-xorg-core) or, at least something more recent
than 2.1.0, for instance 2.2.1 from
http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/rebuilds/intel-2.2.1-Xserver1.3/ ?

Bug#478098: apt: sources.list manpage is unclear about sources.list.d

Timothy G Abbott [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: apt
 Version: 0.7.11
 Severity: minor

The man pages for sources.list describes the sources.list.d directory
 as follows:

 SOURCES.LIST.D
The /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory provides a way to add
sources.list entries in seperate files that end with sources.list
 file.

 I think it should be:

 SOURCES.LIST.D
The /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory provides a way to add
sources.list entries in seperate files whose names end with .list.

since that is more grammatical, and the filename ending seems to only
need to have .list, not sources.list, for apt to pick up files in
 /etc/apt/sources.list.d.

Could you take the lastest apt sources and produce a diff making the
suggested change?

Hello and thanks for reporing that,

Does cmd-line `ara' also segfaults at your side ? If not, what GTK

engine do you use, since LablGTK2 is known to crash with some Qt GTK2
rendering engines (see #388518). Try with the following settings in
your /etc/xara-gtkrc-2.0 to see if xara-gtk still crashes:

hotplugging (now standard). This is fixed upstream along with supporting my
printer that is not supported in the version in the debian archive (lenny),
and so I currently have it installed from upstream source.

If the problem is time to work on it, I'd be happy to work on the package if
 you'd sponsor it.

Help is really appreciated in any from. Up to now the main problem with
upstream was that there were some non-distributable stuff in the
upstream tarball. This needs to be checked carefully. Im in the middle
of review of a new upstream release. This takes some time.
Unfortunately.

Luka, Marco,

Thanks for the report.

I have gotten around to this and updated debian/copyright to match
help:/digikam/index.html which is actually GFDL1.1 or later. So while the
upstream tarball ships with COPYING-DOCS the actual licence is per the text.

I have also updated to reflect /usr/share/common-licenses/GFDL.

I will upload the 0.9.3 package and then the 0.9.4-beta doc packages
separately to Debian unstable/ experimental.

I like firefox's remember password feature, however it asks you
whether you want to remember it when you click login - it would be
great if it tried to figure out whether the login attempt was
  successful before prompting.

Sometimes I'm not sure which password I've used, so ATM I try one
password (select no), try the other (select no) - that password works,
so I have to now go back a page, use the second password (select yes).

It would be great if this change to try first, try other, then I get
prompted and select yes. Perhaps it could look for identical
textboxes to see if the login failed.

This would be extremely difficult to do this reliably, so I think it
will remain wishlist for the near future.

This was actually implemented in version 3.0 betas.

Bug#478226: ifplugd: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2008-04-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: ifplugd
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#478227: O: tla-tools -- Utilities to make life with GNU Arch (tla) easier.

2008-04-28 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I no longer use arch, and have little time to spend on this
package, and the lack of use and testing on my part means this is
getting neglected, and is no longer actively maintained.

This is also dead upstream, and has been for a bit.

Anyone who picks this up will probably have to become upstream.

Linkage 0.2.0 needs libtorrent = 0.13, but the version of libtorrent
in Sid is 0.11.9 now.

Even 0.12 is tagged as Unstable Release on libtorrent's homepage.

I would like to maintain linkage debian package, but I would not cry for
the new version of libtorrent.

Maybe somebody can request a wish to libtorrent maintainer?

Bug#478225: ifplugd: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2008-04-28 Thread Y Giridhar Appaji Nag
# Bcc: control
merge 478226 478225
tags 478226 + moreinfo
thanks

Hi Christian,

On 08/04/28 09:03 +0200, Christian Perrier said ...
Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
 debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

The attached translation is the same as the one in Debian ifplugd svn [1]
(except ofcourse an extra white-space on two lines that I fixed -- it was an
error, e.g. see -a below). Or am I missing something? Hence tagging this
as moreinfo.

[1]
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/ifplugd/unstable/debian/po/fr.po

-a Do not enable interface automatically\n
-s Use stderr instead of syslog for debugging\n
-b Do not beep (-U/-D Do not beep on interface up/down)\n
[snip...]
  -a ne pas activer l'interface automatiquement\n
-s utiliser stderr plutôt que syslog pour le débogage\n
-b ne pas émettre de signal sonore\n

When I saw this translation update bug, I thought that the above string about
ifplugd beeping behaviour (which was one of the reasons I sent out a call for
translations -- the other being reformatting the text to be on multiple lines)
was also fixed. Please see http://bugs.debian.org/476358#10 where I spoke to
Jean-Luc about these issues.

Cheers,

Giridhar

I now see the same behavior (gnutls-cli -s -p 25 localhost crashing

since a freshly installed Debian sid in a virtual machine does not
exhibit this behavior.

I am prepared to debug with the host showing the behavior and hope
that it is still reproducible when you get back to me.

Bug#478196: G35 via TMDS (HDMI=DVI): wrong resolution

  GNU/Linux.

 Brice

Using 2:2.2.1-1~lenny1 effect is the opposite: now, according to
monitor's OSD, vertical resolution is 1 pixel less: 1680x1049 at 60Hz.

Will try to install experimental later today.

Bug#478230: snort: [INTL:fr] French debconf translation update

2008-04-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: snort
Tags: l10n patch
Severity: wishlist

Quoting Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Hi,

You are noted as the last translator of the debconf translation for
snort. The English template has been changed, and now some messages
are marked \fuzzy\ in your translation or are missing.

I would be grateful if you could take the time and update it.
Please send the updated file to me, or submit it as a wishlist bug
 against snort.

Please notice that I have already integrated the updated (or new) Debconf
translations some of you sent for the Snort package recently. However, the PO
file provided by Christian Perrier was not complete and several strings were
 missing.

I plan to upload a new Snort package next week.

Here's my update.

It has more strings than the PO file you sent me because I merged both
my pending file and yours. I think that running msgmerge -U fr.po
templates.pot will make the extra strings disappear.

Hi Kir

If it is done already for ubuntu it would most likely be very similar
for Debian. I think ubuntu base their work on the Debian kernel. This means
that it should be just some corrections that differs.

there's actually no need, Alexander GQ Gerasiov git repository has the
patch(es) in his git repro:

@Ola you can build a single linux-patch-openvz package build against the
linux-source-tree 2.6.24-5, take the diff from Alex git repository.

Bug#478219: debian-installer: Debian-installer ignores preseed-configuration: base-installer/kernel/image

Op 28-04-2008 om 08:34 schreef Ronald:
In my preseed file, I have the following line:

According to the guide, the installer *shouldn't* install any kernel

says

|# The kernel image (meta) package to be installed; none can be used if

|#d-i base-installer/kernel/image string linux-image-2.6-486

bugreporter preseed file should have the line
|d-i base-installer/kernel/image string none
(without the | character)
Notice 'd-i' versus the wrong 'bootstrap-base'
and 'string' added.

 Bug?

Yes. At least in the preseed file of the submitter of this bugreport.

Ronald:
How did you come up with the (wrong) line
|bootstrap-base base-installer/kernel/image none
?

I'm asking because I assume there might be debian-installer documentation
that needs love.

Bug#478232: RFP: diffuse -- Diffuse is a graphical tool for merging and comparing text files.

2008-04-28 Thread Dr. Markus Waldeck

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: diffuse
  Version : 0.2.11
Upstream Author : Derrick Moser [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://diffuse.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: python (= 2.4), python-gtk2 (= 2.10)
Description : Diffuse is a graphical tool for merging and comparing text
files.

I am searching since years for a useful comparing and merging programm
under Linux which is worth to compare with the famous WinMerge (GPL) program.
(Sometime I even used winmerge with wine under Linux.)

The authors writes following on his page:
Diffuse is able to compare an arbitrary number of files side-by-side and
gives users the ability to manually adjust line-matching and directly
edit files. Diffuse can also retrieve revisions of files from CVS,
subversion, git, and mercurial repositories for comparison and merging.

Key Features
* ability to compare and merge an arbitrary number of files
* side-by-side (n-way merges)
* line-matching can be manually corrected by the user
* ability to directly edit files
* syntax highlighting
* CVS, git, mercurial, and subversion support
* support for UTF-8 encoded unicode
* unlimited undo
* easy keyboard navigation

Especially the last one is not to underestimate and makes the program
very efficient and professional.

Thanks!

wrong. the etch+half kernel has other changes compared to sid+lenny as well,
the one mentioned in the above blog post _only_ differs in having the old

Bug#478233: xbase-clients: xmodmap saturates memory

2008-04-28 Thread s.ancelot
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 1:7.1.ds1-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

For unknown reason consecutive calls to xmodmap with a file arguement causes
the system memory to
grow.

Making a loop program in a shell to call xmodmap will perform an out of memory
of the system.

looks like xmodmap has got leak memory problem ...

This appears to be some unrelated install error having nothing to do
 with gcc-4.3.

I improved my template to clarify that bugs are not necessarly
gcc-4.3-specific. But even if it's not gcc-4.3-related, it's still an
FTBFS, and it's still RC.

I can't reproduce this under a normal pbuilder
environment, and it hasn't been reproduced on the buildds.

The part that is at fault is in Makefile:
install ::
@for dir in \
   $(INSTALLPRIVLIB) \
   $(INSTALLARCHLIB) \
   $(INSTALLBIN) \
   $(INSTALLSCRIPT) \
   $(INSTALLMAN1DIR) \
   $(INSTALLMAN3DIR) ; \
do \
   $(MKPATH) $$dir; \
   if test -d $$dir test -w $$dir ; then : ; else \
  echo ; \
  echo ERROR: installation directory \$$dir\ ; \
echois not writable, not installing gimp-perl ; \
  echo ; \
  exit ; \
   fi ; \
done ; \
$(MAKE) really-install install-plugins

The problem is that you are creating and checking INSTALLPRIVLIB, not
DESTINSTALLPRIVLIB. So you are directly trying to create /usr/share/perl/5.8,
not $(insert build dir here)/./usr/share/perl/5.8.
This obviously breaks if the build is not done as root.

I'm surprised that this worked on the buildd, but it was a long time ago.

 Hi Lucas

 Thanks for the report.

However I do not understand the error code in this case. It complains about
a stray '\' but there is no '\' character in that file. Have you seen this
before and know what the problem is?

drivers.c contains:
static const CALDRIVER *driver_registry\133\135 = {
icap_driver,
mstore_driver,
NULL
};

note the \133\135, which isn't there after unpacking the sources.

It seems to be that configure is at fault here:
rm --force drivers.c
echo -e 'static const CALDRIVER *driver_registry\133\135 = {' drivers.c

This is caused by a change in bash 3.2. With bash 3.1:
*** [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ printf '\133\n'
[
*** [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo -e '\133'
[

With bash 3.2:
grelon-62:~# printf '\133\n'
[
grelon-62:~# echo -e '\133'
\133

This seems to be on purpose (the man page was updated as well), but I'm not
sure if it's correct.

I'm sorry to say that this is most likely impossible. The encoders and
decoders share more than 90% common code. In order to comply with the
requests from ftpmaster, we agreed on a way that 'disables' rather than
really strips off the 'dangerous' code.

I think Sjoerd only wants a separate option to build ffmpeg with the
original upstream source (well just to get-orig-source it) instead of
adding build-deps and all. Sjoerd, does the following work?
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=risky fakeroot debian/rules get-orig-source
debuild # no DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS set

Bug#455743: closed by Morten Werner Forsbring [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Bug#455743: fixed in cfengine2 2.2.5-1)

2008-04-28 Thread Chun Tian (binghe)

Hi, Werner Mark

Sorry to reply this mail late. I just find time to do this job, and to
test cfengine, I must set up a new test environment and bootstrap a
new cfengine config, that's not easy.

By checking Mark's svn commit (r524):

http://svn.iu.hio.no/viewvc/trunk/src/nameinfo.c?root=Cfengine-2r1=498r2=524pathrev=524

Now I'm quite sure there's a new bug invoked which caused CFengine can
only detect one interface's address.

In function GetInterfaceInfo (nameinfo.c), Mark added a first_address
var which been set to true at start:

int fd,len,i,j,first_address = true;

There's no other assignment to set this variable to true again but a
chance to set it false:

  if (first_address)
 {
 first_address = false;
 strcpy(ip,inet_ntoa(sin-sin_addr));

snprintf(name,CF_MAXVARSIZE-1,ipv4[%s],CanonifyName(ifp-ifr_name));

 AddMacroValue(CONTEXTID,name,ip);

So this IF block can only run exactly ONCE, which caused
global.ipv4[ethX] got only one interface's address, which depends the
interfaces order on linux. For most cases, eth0 appear before eth1, so
global.ipv4[eth0] is good but global.ipv4[eth1] cannot expand to any
address because it didn't exist in cfengine's nameinfo list.

For a quick fix, I attach a new patch which can be put into Debian
package's debian/patches directory, or merge into cfengine trunk. I
test it, and works for me. Please review it.

Thanks,

Chun Tian (binghe)

 }

I found one of ${global.ipv4[eth0]} and ${global.ipv4[eth1]} cannot
be

expanded into right value, which depends my interfaces order on
server.

I haven't had time to test this myself, but this worked as intended
before we applied the patch from upstream?

Bug#478236: initramfs 0.92 makes slug unbootable (armel/lenny)

2008-04-28 Thread Kevin Price
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.92
Severity: important

Hi! When I update from 0.91e to 0.92, the newly created initrd makes my
slug unbootable. While trying to boot, the initrd hangs waiting for root
file system. Reinstalling the previous 0.91e with everything else
unchanged and re-creating the initrd repairs the system.

Please let me know what I can do to help find this bug. I attached some
useful information P.S. Thank you in advance for looking at this!

Best regards
Kevin Price

In the unbootable state, The serial console says this:

Bug#428084: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the ifupdown package

2008-04-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of ifupdown and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the ifupdown Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
ca cs da de el es fr gl it ja lt nb nl pl pt pt_BR ru sv tr vi zh_CN

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the ifupdown package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, May 08,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, April 12, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Monday, April 28, 2008 : send this notice
Thursday, May 08, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates
Friday, May 09, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, May 11, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#478225: ifplugd: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2008-04-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Y Giridhar Appaji Nag ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

The attached translation is the same as the one in Debian ifplugd svn [1]
(except ofcourse an extra white-space on two lines that I fixed -- it was an
error, e.g. see -a below). Or am I missing something? Hence tagging this
 as moreinfo.

Hmmm, you mean Jean-Luc sent you the translation ?

.../...

Apparently in #476358, yes.

As he did not mention that to our mailing list, that explains why I
sent it. I indeed sent Jean-Luc translation.

So, if he did send something and if what you have is 100% translated,
then just forget about my bug report.

If it is not complete, we need to complete it.

 [1]
 http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/ifplugd/unstable/debian/po/fr.po

 [snip...]
   -a ne pas activer l'interface automatiquement\n
-s utiliser stderr plutôt que syslog pour le débogage\n
-b ne pas émettre de signal sonore\n

When I saw this translation update bug, I thought that the above string about
ifplugd beeping behaviour (which was one of the reasons I sent out a call for
translations -- the other being reformatting the text to be on multiple lines)
was also fixed. Please see http://bugs.debian.org/476358#10 where I spoke to
 Jean-Luc about these issues.

Can you re-send me the fr.po file that you have in your SVN, *after*
running:

msgmerge -U fr.po templates.pot

Hi, Werner Mark

Sorry to reply this mail late. I just find time to do this job, and to
test cfengine, I must set up a new test environment and bootstrap a new
cfengine config, that's not easy.

By checking Mark's svn commit (r524):

http://svn.iu.hio.no/viewvc/trunk/src/nameinfo.c?root=Cfengine-2r1=498r2=524pathrev=524

Now I'm quite sure there's a new bug invoked which caused CFengine can
only detect one interface's address.

In function GetInterfaceInfo (nameinfo.c), Mark added a first_address
var which been set to true at start:

int fd,len,i,j,first_address = true;

There's no other assignment to set this variable to true again but a
chance to set it false:

  if (first_address)
 {
 first_address = false;
 strcpy(ip,inet_ntoa(sin-sin_addr));

snprintf(name,CF_MAXVARSIZE-1,ipv4[%s],CanonifyName(ifp-ifr_name));

 AddMacroValue(CONTEXTID,name,ip);

I test
it, and works for me. Please review it.

Thanks,

Chun Tian (binghe)

{global.ipv4[eth1]}'
 }

I found one of ${global.ipv4[eth0]} and ${global.ipv4[eth1]} cannot be
expanded into right value, which depends my interfaces order on
server.

I haven't had time to test this myself, but this worked as intended
before we applied the patch from upstream?

Yes. Also, the music is nice and could be played outside of the game as well.

  * Set BASEDIR to empty string
Why?

Mostly esthetic reasons. If BASEDIR is set to something, then this
directory will be the only file in $HOME/.ufoai/2.2 for example, which
is silly. I agree that this is incompatible with the pure SVN builds
and can cause problems, so I'm not totally against changing it back to

nameinfo list.
For a quick fix, I attach a new patch which can be put into Debian
package's debian/patches directory, or merge into cfengine trunk. I
test it, and works for me. Please review it.

Good. I've committed the patch now with a few minor modifications.

I'm not sure what you mean by both for clear text and encrypted. Would
you like to test preseeding grub-installer/password and
 grub-installer/password-again?

Yes. Both preseeding of an encrypted password and of plaintext passwords are
possible and thus both should be tested. For plaintext passwords it could
even be tested that the script behaves correctly if they are not the same.

Testing this would still be welcome, even if the change has already been
committed.

Bug#478200: tshark: seems to ignore read filters when writing to pcap file

2008-04-28 Thread Joost Yervante Damad
On Monday 28 April 2008 02:16:18 Nahuel Greco wrote:
 Package: tshark

 When you execute something like:

 tshark -i eth0 -R http.request -w test.pcap

tshark seems to ignore the read filter specified with the -R flag. The
number of captured packets printed to stderr seems to be correct (it only
prints the number of http requests encountered). But if you analize the
test.pcap file, you will see that ALL the traffic from eth0 was dumped
 unfiltered to it.

--manpage cut--

I think it's clear, tshark must use the read filter to filter the packets
before dumping them to the -w specified output file. So, this is a bug
 or a documentation error.

I can reproduce this. I could immagine this is a limitation of the way display
filters work, however indeed at least the documentation is misleading then.

I'll see if this problem is known upstream.

 DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=risky fakeroot debian/rules get-orig-source
 debuild # no DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS set

Nope, because if risky isn't set config-extra-includes.h (which also disables
the encoders) gets added to config.h in the build-stamp rule.

See a later mail of Reinhard btw, we finally figured out what i actually wanted
;) I guess my patching skills are better then my explaining skills.

Bug#477969: libmcal: FTBFS: drivers.c:1: error: stray '\' in program

2008-04-28 Thread Matthias Klose
Yes, this change was intended, upstream writes:

changed from 3.1 to 3.2, for Posix conformance. `echo -e' (and the
corresponding xpg_echo shell option) now conform to the POSIX standard
and accept 0-3 octal digits after a (required) leading `\0'.

The xpg_echo and `echo -e' code should be identical. There are lots
of ways to indicate that backslash escapes should be interpreted --
maybe too many -- but when they are, they should behave consistently.

This is why portable applications should use printf.

Bug#172436: Is it OK for the new policy wording to be a SHOULD?

2008-04-28 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Hi,

I was looking at the currently proposed wording for this issue,
 and it says:
--8---cut here---start-8---
Thus, every program that launches a web browser with an URL should use
the BROWSER environment variable to determine what browser the user
wishes to use. details of the content and handling of the BROWSER env
 variable elided
--8---cut here---end---8---

This would mean that every program that does not already follow
this directive would instantly turn buggy (conventionally, a violation
of a SHOULD directive is a normal bug)

The same rule has a MAY directive that provides an alternative:
--8---cut here---start-8---
+ Instead of implementing the above in every program that runs a
+ web browser, programs in Debian may be configured to use
+ file/usr/bin/sensible-browser/file.
--8---cut here---end---8---

Has this been looked at already? How many packages will become
instantly buggy? If the number is small, this wording may be acceptable
as it stands. If the number of such packages is significant, a
transition plan might be called for.

*** Please type your report below this line ***
When setting up to automount home-directories, emacs hangs on startup.
Reason is that it searches the GNU-manifesto in order to find its etc/
directory (normally in /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc). As it does not find
the manifesto (file named 'GNU'), it continues to search in the compile
environment. Since home is on automount, automounter now tries to find
and mount the home directory of user rlp which takes some time...
Workaround:
touch /usr/share/emacs/22.1/etc/GNU
now emacs starts as quick as ever.

Bug#456246: Rhythmbox does not save playlists when receiving sigterm

Since I often listen to music and use shutdown (init will
send SIGTERM to the running processes) to shutdown the computer
after a while, all changes i've made to the playlists are lost
then. But also when I shutdown the computer over the gnome menus, i
don't close rhythmbox by hand, since it's just an application
  running in the background...
I think the expected behaviour of an application like Rhythmbox is
to save the current playlist when receiving the SIGTERM.

 Hi,

This should be fixed in 0.11.5, can you confirm?

Bug#478167: ITP: cowpoke -- Builds a single Debian source package with a remote cowbuilder

Do we really need a new package for a single script ?

Well, that really all depends on whether other people are interested in
having this available to hack on and use _today_. I needed it, or
something like it now, nothing else like it seemed to already exist
that I could install and use, and packaged it for my own use, for my
own convenience. I didn't have to share it, but I did, and given that
it got useful feedback, expressions of gratitude, and even patches to
improve it, faster than it could even get accepted into the NEW queue,
I'd say that I probably made the right decision at this stage -- to
just make it available in the quickest and most user friendly way that
I know.

I could split it into several scripts if that would make the package
more justifiable -- but I'm assuming that the letter of your question
here doesn't quite capture the spirit of what you are really asking.

I didn't have an existing package I maintain that it would have made
sense to slip it into -- and didn't really have the time to try and
engage people (who may not care at all about it) to adopt it when I
was already 'stealing' company time to write it, package it, and give
it away. By the time I'd done the work that _we_ needed, actually
uploading it was really just a matter of letting it complete its test
suite on itself.

If it helped just one other person today, that tiny little bit of extra
work payed off in delightfully disproportionate ways, and I feel good.
I'm not sure the benefit of debating where it should go for a couple
of weeks first would have rated so well.

Can't that go in in with cowbuilder ?

Maybe. I'd have no objection to that, but we'll have to talk to the
cowbuilder maintainer. In the meantime, a little peer review can only
help everyone make up their minds about where and if this belongs.
I'd expect this will go through a few more revisions before a broader
spectrum of people are happy it does all they need -- it won't hurt to
not tie cowbuilder to a cycle of rapid updates and possible RC bugs
while this initially shakes out. Even if it looks like something that
cowbuilder might adopt today, I cannot guarantee it still will after
other people start pulling and poking at it in other useful directions.

In any event it will at least want its own binary package separate
from cowbuilder -- since it's intended to run on machines that don't
have cowbuilder installed, and with cowbuilder machines that don't
normally have people actively hacking on them (and hence need this
installed) -- most machines only want one or the other.

If it stabilises and the cowbuilder maintainer is happy to include
it in that source package, that would be great. But it would have
been a little silly of me to preemptively fork cowbuilder to develop
this. I am conscious of package bloat though, and if this package
can be gotten rid of, either by merging with something appropriate,
or me filing a removal request if it proves to simply suck and be
useless, then I'll wave goodbye to it with the same sense of doing
continued good that I uploaded it with.

Sorry for the rant, but I do think about these things too ...
and I figure if you've felt the need to ask, you probably want
better answers than: 1) Yes. 2) I don't know yet.

Cheers,
Ron

Bug#429789: [Pkg-xen-devel] Bug#429789: peth0: received packet with own address as source address

2008-04-28 Thread Ralph Passgang

Zitat von martin f krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

also sprach Adriaan Peeters [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008.04.25.1648 +0400]:

And we have a virtual interface, called eth0, which should be used if
xen's domain0 wants to communicate via network. eth0 is also part of
this bridge. eth0 should have the mac adress of you real network
 interface.

This is how I understood the Xen documentation indeed.

Are you sure that eth0 (a bridge) has to have the actual MAC address
and not peth0?

eth0 is not the bridge. the bridge is normally called xenbr0. eth0
is a virtual interface, connected to xenbr0. peth0 is the physical
device (eth0 on a non-xen system) and also connected to this bridge.

peth0 has FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF as MAC address
xenbr0 also uses FE:FF:FF:FF:FF as MAC address
eth0 has the MAC address of the real interface

If a bridge br0 has interfaces eth0 and eth1, which MAC address is
used to communicate on network 0? Which one on network 1? Is it
br0's or is it eth0/1's?

In our case br0 (on a xen system it's xenbr0) has no ip address. A
interface without an ip adress cannot be used for generating packets.

Your question for eth0/eth1 is quite easy. It will use the routing
table for a decission. If there is a routing entry for the
destination, then it will use this routing information. If there is no
direct routing info in the routing table, then it will use the default
route generating new packets.

The bridiging is not relevant at all for layer 3 stuff like routing.
Linux will use the same logic as on a normal multi-homed system.

This might get more obvious if you think about what a bridge actually
is. A multiport-bridge (which we have in xen) is like a simple layer 2
switch. So there is no routing involved, just port switching logic
which is build on arp/mac.

So, if fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff can really be observed on the wire, then
the routing information must be wrong and seems to use peth0 or xenbr0
instead of eth0. Or eth0 is not configured correctly and has a wrong
arp adress.

That's why I asked for all the ip route information. I guess there
is something wrong in Adriaan's configuration.

There is also some infos available in the xen wiki:
