Bug#490401: VLC plugin should claim support for audio/x-m4a

2008-07-12 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: mozilla-plugin-vlc
Version: 0.8.6.e-2

The VLC mozilla plugin is able to play files using the mime type
audio/x-m4a, but because the plugin do not claim support for it, the
file isn't played. A test page demonstrating this is
URL:http://loekebergskole.no/podpress/category/podcaster/comenius/norsong/.

To test, visit the page using iceweasel, press the 'Play now' option
after the text for Lille Petter Edderkopp.

Please list the audio/x-m4a mime type as one supported by vlc.

Happy hacking,

Rafael, can you take this? I'll try to come up with something, but I'm

Bug#490403: evolution: last delete-flagged mail is not hidden when using IMAP account

2008-07-12 Thread Fabian Fagerholm
Package: evolution
Version: 2.22.2-1.1
Severity: normal

When using an IMAP account, Evolution shows the last delete-flagged mail
even though the option View - Hide deleted messages is on. The mail is
shown with overlined text, so it really is correctly detected as having
the deleted flag set. However, for some reason Evolution always shows
the most recent delete-flagged mail with overlined text. Naturally, the
mail disappears when purging the mailbox.

I believe this glitch appeared in the 2.22.2 series of Evolution. At
least it has appeared in the Debian packages quite recently (the last
two months or so; I'm tracking lenny on this machine).

Bug#490161: maint-guide-zh: pdf bookmark display problem in file maint-guide.zh_CN.pdf

2008-07-12 Thread 贺俊(Asias He)
Hi

How does it look under X started under zh_CN.GB2312 locale and evince or
acrobat run there. That is the question.
I set my locale to zh_CN.GB2312, bookmarks still can not be displayed
properly under evince.

If this resolve situation, it is reader's problem not converting enoding
for pdfhyperref. Maybe, there is no encoding information embedded
properly. Either case, these become unreadable.
so this is not the reader's problem :),I am pretty sure about that.

I do not know but it looks to me those index created by old
CJKbookmarks needs to be in the same encoding. This is LaTeX macro
 issue though.

Usually we chinese guys prefer zh_CN.UTF-8 to zh_CN.GB2312
under linux. Is it ok to use the zh_CN.UTF-8 to build the pdf file as I
mentioned
previously
$iconv -f gb2312 -t utf8 maint-guide.zh_CN.sgml maint-guide.zh_CN.sgml.utf8
$debiandoc2latexpdf -l zh_CN.UTF-8 maint-guide.zh_CN.sgml.utf8

$debiandoc2latexpdf -l zh_TW.UTF-8 maint-guide.zh_TW.sgml.utf8
This really works, but maybe is is not a good approach.

Any ideas?

I think good but why just PDF.

Are you updating translation and testing? Or just for local?

If so, I would convert the source to UTF-8. Then your text file is
UTF-8 too. See what I did for debian-reference package. All
translations are still in SGML but uses UTF-8.

Negatives:

Current DDP build server has not been updated to the new debiandoc-sgml
yet. If you commit such thing to DDP SVN, it will break builder.

Bug#490354: Add atl2 support to kernel-wedge

2008-07-12 Thread Glenn Saberton
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 Some questions.
What's the reason the module isn't pushed into the upstream kernel?
Upstream is working on including it. From what I can see, the kernel
team want it integrated with atl1 which appears to be a stumbling block.
The last mail I can find about it on netdev [1] is quite old, i'll try
and chase up the latest status of this.
 Does it have/require firmware?
No
What is the size of the module?
In my 486 2.6.25 its 33727B
Are the systems that use it otherwise fully supported by the standard D-I?
The eeepc would then be fully supported (apart from wireless which is
not really required) by the installer. One of the main goals for the
debian-eeepc project is to try and get it supported by d-i so that we
don't have to maintain our own installer.

I'll also take a look at hw-detect.

Depending on the answers to those questions I have no real objections,
altough I also don't really like the explosion in kernel udebs we're
seeing with the last few kernels.

Adding a separate udeb also means that pkg-lists will need to be updated.

 Cheers,
 FJP

Thanks
Glenn

Bug#490401: VLC plugin should claim support for audio/x-m4a

2008-07-12 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
tags 490401 + patch
thanks

This patch get the test page working. It adds audio/x-m4a and
audio/mp4 to the two files vlcplugin.h and npvlc_rc.rc. I am not sure
only these two files should be updated, but I can confirm that it work
with this patch in place.

The plugin is showing a black square with the text no video in the
middle when playing the audio. I would prefer it to show some control
buttson (like restart and pause), instead of just the black screen,
but suspect that should be the topic for a different bug.

Hello,

sorry to be very late on this bug.

does it work now ?

Because i have another problem with the same dvb card, which i think, is
related to yours. 0.5.11 series probe for devices on start, the file
is : /usr/lib/hal/hald-probe-video4linux.

On your system, radio starts playing, on mine, dvb does not work anymore
until i stop hal and reload dvb drivers. I tried 2.6.23.xx, 2.6.24 and
2.6.25 vanilla kernels. what kernel version(s) did your try ?

Not sure if you have received Paul's question (he's from the upstream
 Claws Mail team).
 In any case I'm re-asking :-)
Also would like to know if this bug is still present with the recently
 uploaded 3.5.0 version.

Hi Ricardo,

I have actually stopped using claws-mail and reverted to Sylpheed,
because I just could not live with this bug.

I just set up a little test bed, and unison and claws-mail 3.5.0 still
do not play well, same behavior: read/unread and color state of e-mails
is lost after synchronization. Not sure I mentioned before, but when I
first bring up claws-mail after a sync, the number of read/unread
e-mails in a folder actually seems to be correct in the folder list at
the left. After I click on a folder, all e-mails inside become unread.

As for preservation of modification times, below is a partial dir
sorted by size of the two inbox directories right after a sync,
generated by ls -alcS. Hopefully that gives Paul the info he needs.
It would seem time stamps are not the same.

Bug#490406: epiphany-browser: Missing spanish translation of dialog for password saving

2008-07-12 Thread Daniel Clemente
Subject: epiphany-browser: Missing spanish translation of dialog for password
saving
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.22.3-1
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n

*** Please type your report below this line ***

On a system configured to be in Spanish, the following message:
Do you want Epiphany to remember this password?
and the corresponding buttons (Never for this site / Not Now / Remember) appear
in English, not Spanish. This is the dialog which appears after submitting a
form.

This message makes Epiphany unsuitable for the person I am installing it for.

Bug#490407: respect offlineimap's autorefresh settings

Package: buffycli

offlineimap provides autorefresh to run at defined intervals. With

It would be nice of buffycli could support this mode instead of

Currently just the locales.

If so, I would convert the source to UTF-8. Then your text file is
UTF-8 too. See what I did for debian-reference package. All
translations are still in SGML but uses UTF-8.
Ok,that would be good.

 Negatives:

Current DDP build server has not been updated to the new debiandoc-sgml

Bug#490404: VLC plugin should claim support for audio/x-mpegurl

This patch solve the issue. As far as I can tell, there is nothing
using the npvlc_rc.rc file, so I do not provide an update for it. Its
content seem to be derived from the values in the header file. The
patch is tested and found to be working.

A default installation doesn't show my wired ethernet adapter. After hunting
around on the Web, it seems that adding allow-hotplug eth0 might have
helped. I also modified the rules in /etc/dbus-1/knetworkmanager.conf to
allow my user-account as a policy.

Have you read /usr/share/doc/network-manager/README.Debian?
Is your wired network adapter accessible after you have followed the

Bug#478883: ldap-utils: tls failing when connecting to slapd on etch server

This maybe an issue with libldap, or possibly libgnutls (which I doubt see
 tests below).

I can't get an ldaps connection to slapd running on our Etch servers.
The ldaps connections from other etch servers is fine, but for my lenny
 desktop I get:

 Server syslog:

  conn=400 fd=26 ACCEPT from IP=10.10.25.223:34424 (IP=0.0.0.0:636)
conn=400 fd=26 closed (TLS negotiation failure)

IIRC, this indicates a server-side rejection of the TLS setup. Can we see
your slapd.conf on the server side? Also, is this still an issue with the
current 2.4.9-1 version of the package in lenny?

If the problem is still present and there's nothing indicative in the
slapd.conf, I would want to see the full, unedited debugging output from
gnutls-cli.

FWIW, I've just set up a test server using the etch version of slapd, and I
can connect to it over TLS just fine from a sid client; so more information
is definitely needed here to be able to reproduce this problem.

When I look at about:plugins in epiphany, I notice that xspf
(application/xspf+xml) is not in the mime types list for the vlc

vlc has no problem with xspf).

xspf is a playlist format, similar to m3u.

It's very usual to found WMA files on the Internet. Since VLC can

 on VLC's Mozilla plugin

Can you provide the URL to a test page where this can be tested? I'm

the audio/x-ms-wma one. If it is, I suspect this patch solve the

and try to increase font size and it will crash.

This is indeed reproducible. Interestingly enough, a very
similar bug
happens in devhelp when trying to increase the font size.

I???m attaching a full backtrace with debugging symbols.

Interestingly, while I can reproduce with epiphany, I can't with
iceweasel. Some values of the zoom factor may be triggering this
   issue...

FWIW, iceweasel is setting zoom factor to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, ...

I tried some less intriguing values for zoom factors in epiphany, and
 it
didn't change anything. It still crashes.

We had this zoom crash here _before_ respinning epiphany-browser on
top of the final xulrunner Are you sure its a fresh build?

I build it myself yesterday. Though not against final xulrunner, but rc2,
   which is the same.

Any news on this bug? Does it still happen? How bad is it, should it
  block testing migration?

It still happens reliably for me with the given url, though it doesn't
happen with other urls. So I would say it is not /that/ bad.

Now, I got to the point where I don't know where the bug is anymore...

I roughly duplicated epiphany code for zoom handling in the gtkembed
test in xulrunner (in case it would make a difference whether the zoom
API is called from javascript or C) and... it doesn't crash...

Attached, you'll find a patch for this test. If you want to try for
yourself, apply it to current xulrunner source, run debian/rules build,
then make -C embedding/browser/gtk/tests, and finally,
dist/bin/run-mozilla.sh embedding/browser/gtk/tests/TestGtkEmbed

Then go to the aljazeera.net url, and click on zoom (you can click
several times, but not too many times, there is no failsafe)

Bug#490408: lsb-base: Add hooks into some logging functions

2008-07-12 Thread Miroslav Jezbera
Package: lsb-base
Version: 3.2-12
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

It will usefull to add some hooks into functions in init-functions. I can
override functions in this file from /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh, but I can't use
original functions from init-functions and add only some functionality. I must
rewrite whole functions - for simple ones it is not problem.
I propose adding pre and post hook functions. Everyone, who wants to enhance
functionality can change these hooks (e.g. splashy) and output will be same as
with original scripts.

Bug#490409: CVE-2008-2004: privilege escalation

2008-07-12 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: xen-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for xen-3.

CVE-2008-2004[0]:
| The drive_init function in QEMU 0.9.1 determines the format of a raw
| disk image based on the header, which allows local guest users to read
| arbitrary files on the host by modifying the header to identify a
| different format, which is used when the guest is restarted.

The patch for qemu can be found here[1].

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

Bug#490398: storebackup: exceptDirsSep causes an error

2008-07-12 Thread Heinz-Josef Claes
Hello,

I didn't check the issue, but I think this is the result of totally different
modules for arguments in the command line and the configuration file.

Probably exceptDirsSep only works in command line. I will not correct this bug
for a very simple reason: There is a version of storeBackup nearly ready
which will fix it. Beside several new features (which are the reason for
switching to version 2) it will come with a new combined interface for
command line and configuration file. You will also be able to overwrite
settings in the configuration file on the command line. The parameter
exceptDirsSep simply goes away in this new version.

This new version is running now for some weeks in production for me and some
others. It's still missing the integration of the new lib/checkParam2.pl
module and documentation.

Now, please simply use a blank as a separator, until the new version is out.

If you are interested to test the next version, please write me a direct
email. A Beta will be available in a few weeks.

Regards,
Heinz-Josef Claes

storeBackup(1) and /usr/share/doc/storebackup/README.gz both refer to
the 'exceptDirsSep' option. There are two problems with this option:

 (1) The documentation says that its default value is ,, but in fact
its default value is a space. Without trying to set exceptDirsSep, if
I try to use a comma as a separator I get

ERROR 2008.07.12 00:34:08 9272 no directory resulting from pattern
 etc/dokuwiki,var/lib/dokuwiki

while if I use a space instead, there's no error.

 (2) When I try to set the option, storeBackup chokes:

 # storeBackup -f dokuwiki
ERROR 2008.07.12 00:38:31 9357 unknown key exceptDirsSep in
 (dokuwiki, 2)

 # cat dokuwiki
 sourceDir   = /
 exceptDirsSep = ,
 includeDirs = etc/dokuwiki,var/lib/dokuwiki

 Thanks,
 Andrew.

Bug#418997: /usr/bin/ldapsearch: ldapsearch -Y GSSAPI segfaults

2008-07-12 Thread Steve Langasek
tags 418997 moreinfo unreproducible
thanks

I've just done a test here with etch ldap-utils, etch slapd, and etch
libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit. I'm not able to reproduce any segfaults when
using ldapsearch -Y GSSAPI (perhaps that was obvious to some other
co-maintainers, but I haven't seen this stated plainly before now, and I
hadn't had any opportunity to test). I've also tested with sid versions,
and also don't see any errors.

Juha, if this bug is still an issue for you and is still reproducible, I
think we will need a backtrace using a libkrb53 package built with debugging
symbols. Otherwise, we would eventually have to close this bug as
unreproducible.

The krb5-kdc package doesn't rotate /var/log/krb5kdc.log, which is required
by Debian Policy 10.8. This is always a slow-growing log file for me, but
every couple of years or so I have occasion to notice that one of my
krb5kdc.log's is a little large and should probably be rotated. (Most
recently, I've just noticed this on a KDC that's been running for 6 1/2
years and grown to 172MB. :) So rather than continuing to deploy one-off
logrotate snippets, perhaps I should submit a bug...

The following bit should, I think, be suitable to install as
/etc/logrotate.d/krb5kdc.

/var/log/krb5kdc.log {
monthly
rotate 12
missingok
compress
delaycompress
sharedscripts
postrotate
killall -HUP krb5kdc
endscript
}

Bug#490369: The test suites fail on any 64-bit architectures

2008-07-12 Thread Damyan Ivanov
-=| Michael Casadevall, Fri, Jul 11, 2008 at 06:14:34PM -0400 |=-
I ran it on my amd64, and it failed the test suite with the
 following error:

t/local/00_ptr_cast# compiling test program with: cc -o

 # Failed test 'STDERR empty after compiling'

 Test returned status 1 (wstat 256, 0x100)

I should have been more specific and said a specific test fails ;-).

You should tell us the specific version of the package you built. If
you used the 'reportbug' tool, it would have included it in the
report.

 I
am running on Ubuntu though, I passed the bug report though since the
test suite was not run on buildd.d.o.

Of course test suite *is* run on the build daemons. Did you look at
the build log?

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=libnet-ssleay-perl;ver=1.33.01-1;arch=ia64;stamp=1214906736

 I'm using GCC-4.3.1 which may
 make the difference.

As seen in the above build log, buildds used 4.3.1-3

I also feel uneasy about the patch prosposed as I suspect %ld may not
be appropriate on 32-bit architectures.

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on

Is it possible that this fails because the build system is too loaded?

Bug#484270: iceweasel crashes on flash sites

2008-07-12 Thread aaron
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0~rc2-2
Followup-For: Bug #484270

Iceweasel crashes randomly on different sites I believe due to flash content.
When I go to youtube it says I need the flash plugin I click to follow the link
and it crashes. It does it on ohter sites as well. I have switched flash
programs
between adobe's flash plugin and gnash and vlc. A bug report was generated on
the last crash I will post it here:

Bug#462355: etckeeper: also X11/xorg.conf.* could go to .gitignore

2008-07-12 Thread Andrei Popescu
Package: etckeeper
Version: 0.20
Followup-For: Bug #462355

This is too minor to warrant a new bugreport, but IMHO X11/xorg.conf.*
could also go to .gitignore. The history of xorg.conf is already
preserved in git, no need to duplicate it.

Regards,
Andrei

Bug#486744: [epiphany-browser] Carsh when increeasing font size

2008-07-12 Thread Mike Hommey
On Sat, Jul 12, 2008 at 09:55:28AM +0200, Mike Hommey wrote:

I could reproduce with galeon, though it doesn't happen as reliably as
with epiphany. Even stranger, if you run galeon with a new user (no
$HOME/.* directories around), then it *doesn't* crash. Then you restart
galeon (so, after some $HOME/.* directories were created), then it
*does* crash.
Epiphany, OTOH, crashes even when $HOME is empty.

Mike

Bug#490424: iceweasel not starting w/ iceweasel-l10n-bg (browser.xul parse error)

2008-07-12 Thread Bobi B.

Package: iceweasel-l10n-bg
Version: 1:3.0~rc2+debian-1

Running Debian testing with Bulgarian locale:
~$ uname -a
Linux zen 2.6.24-1-686-bigmem #1 SMP Thu May 8 02:55:42 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

~$ export
...
declare -x LANG=bg_BG.UTF-8

Upon starting iceweasel an error message displayed in a new window (the
same style as XML parse errors):

New profile doesn't help whatsoever, neither does purge and reinstall of

normal; if reinstalled, error message is reintroduced.

- require libdb and libdb-dev = 4.4
- backport from trunk which supports, in a safer way, libdb up to version 4.7

Considering the pending freeze of lenny, I think the former should be done to
avoid all sorts of side issues.
Are uploads still allowed or does this need action from the release team?
release.debian.org is very vague on the schedule.

So I hope this doesn't cause any confusion - maybe it's a completely
 different issue.

Nevertheless one example target is https://www.lbbw.de/ (I'm the

Confirmed with 2.4.1-1 on Debian sid.

It seems to be a different issue than the original one though, the

How did you print the list of all manually installed packages? What
 was the command you used?

I use the command
aptitude search ?and(?installed , ?not(?automatic))

(probably more awkward than it needs to be -- I haven't bothered to
seriously read the manual)

I have attached the unabbreviated text of the session.

If you can suggest some tests to run on my system, I'll see what I can
do. Or I could tar up any relevant directories and send to you, if
that would be any help.

I use it on a daily basis and this is new to me. But

$ busybox mkdir --parents a

you are right. This seems to have been dropped from busybox since
etch. There is no entry in the changelog though.

mdadm in lenny already uses -p rather than the long options, so if
you had upgraded mdadm as well, the problem wouldn't have happened.

I agree that this is a problem we should fix in time for lenny, but
I can't fix it in mdadm. Thus I am reassigning to busybox, which
should support long options for mkdir in lenny, possibly mark them
deprecated, and only remove them for lenny+1.

Bug#490430: auth2db: Missing alternative dependency on system-log-daemon

2008-07-12 Thread Jonas Meurer
Package: auth2db
Version: 0.2.4+dfsg-2
Severity: important

Hello,

auth2db has a dependency on sysklogd | syslog-ng | inetutils-syslogd
which makes it impossible to install it with any other syslog daemon.
Please add an alternative dependency on the virtual package
system-log-daemon to fix that.

The change of the default syslog daemon from sysklogd to rsyslog is
currently in process for lenny [1], [2] so I suggest to change the
dependency to rsyslogd | system-log-daemon instead of listing every
single available syslog daemon.

greetings,

Bug#482145: silc client segfaults if key is verified after disconnection

:
Both of you have stumbled to the fundamental problem of most asynchronous
operations; the inability to control them. That's why SILC's runtime
provides the SILC Async Operation API (from 1.2 docs:
http://srt.silc.fi/silcasync_hsilcutil2FAsync20Operation20Interface.html)

Here in a psuedo-code fashion is one way to fix this and all other prompt
problems in SILC Client:

In this particular problem reported by Jérémy we can fix this by wrapping
the keyboard_entry_redirect call to our own call that uses the
SilcAyncOperation:

SilcAsyncOperation
my_keyboard_entry_redirect(SIGNAL_FUNC func,
   SilcAsyncOperationAbort abort_callback,
const char *entry, int flags, void *data)
{
  SilcAsyncOperation op = silc_async_alloc(abort_callback, NULL, data);
  keyboard_entry_redirect(func, format, flags, data);
  return op;
}

The returned op would be saved to some location where it is globally
available, say, inside SILC_SERVER_REC. Some other context could be used
too, but just for the purpose of this example let's use that.

To present user with the key verification prompt, we now would call:

  server-prompt_op =
my_keyboard_entry_redirect(verify_public_key_completion,
   verify_public_key_abort,
   format, 0, verify);

If the server connection is now closed or whatever happens that would
invalidate the data inside the structure we used with the call above, we
now call in whatever callback client library called to indicate the
disconnection:

  silc_async_abort(server-prompt_op, NULL, NULL);

This will call the verify_public_key_abort which must now mark the
operation aborted:

void verify_public_key_abort(SilcAsyncOperation op, void *context)
{
  PublicKeyVerify verify = context;
  verify-aborted = TRUE;
}

When the verify_public_key_completion is finally called when user actually
answers the prompt, we check:

  if (verify-aborted) {
/* We was aborted, do nothing */
silc_free(verify);
server-prompt_op = NULL;
return;
  }

/* We wasn't aborted, free operation and proceed */
  silc_async_free(server-prompt_op);
  server-prompt_op = NULL;

NULLing the operation is important to avoid using it accidentally. Of
course the operation context must be saved into some place that itself
cannot be freed underneath the async call. I'm not sure SILC_SERVE_REC is
the correct place even though I used it in this example.

The SILC Client Library should use SilcAsyncOperations with all client ops
it calls to application that take completion callbacks as argument so that
the library itself could abort the client ops. This however would require
changing the SilcClientOperations API...

Bug#490431: does not handle terminal updates/resizes very well

2008-07-12 Thread martin f krafft
Package: buffycli
Version: 0.1-1
Severity: minor

If I start buffycli and then decrease the terminal height, the
table disappears (scrolls off). Similarly, if I increase the height,
I might end up with two tables. Also ^L is not supported to redraw.
I know you aren't using curses but you might want to think about it.

This is indeed reproducible. Interestingly enough, a very similar bug
happens in devhelp when trying to increase the font size.

Interestingly, while I can reproduce with epiphany, I can't with

We had this zoom crash here _before_ respinning epiphany-browser on

You still have this zoom crash: I just tried the

went to the given url, zoomed in, and boom.

Bug#490433: netbeans-platform: Please provide org-openide-util.jar as separate package

2008-07-12 Thread Sylvestre Ledru
Package: netbeans-platform

Hello,

I am trying to package freehep-util which is used in many of the
freehep packages (http://java.freehep.org/).
However, freehep-util is based on org-openide-util. Therefore, I need to
set a dependency on the netbeans-platform package just for this library.
Do you think that this java package could become a specific debian

Thanks!

there are basically two things happening with netbeans. one is to split
out all non-netbeans originating embedded libs to use them from seperate
packages (upstream is doing that by making sure, any modifications on
those libs are merged by their respective upstream projects), and
another one is (which is the interesting one for you :) to heavily break
up netbeans binary packages in debian, which i'm working on to do. in
the end, to offer maximal flexibility, netbeans-platform would be very,
very small and depend on a big chunk of independent jar packages only.

however.. that will not make it into lenny yet.

We can do two things here:
 - require libdb and libdb-dev = 4.4
 - backport from trunk which supports, in a safer way, libdb up to version 4.7

Considering the pending freeze of lenny, I think the former should be done to
avoid all sorts of side issues.
Are uploads still allowed or does this need action from the release team?
release.debian.org is very vague on the schedule.

Still allowed, of course. If your package becomes frozen in the
meantime, you have to ask for an exception on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This looks like a fairly rare race condition. Clearly one of the
lingering speedy_backend processes has exited between running the
debian/list-backends script and actually killing the processes.

My guess is that some of the processes running just after the test
suite are not 'lingering', they just haven't had the time to exit
gracefully yet.

My first try at a fix would be sleeping a few seconds after the test
suite before killing any remaining processes. If that doesn't help,
just ignoring the exit status of the 'kill' command seems to be in order.

Reopening but downgrading the severity.

Bug#489932: [Pkg-bluetooth-maintainers] Bug#489932: /usr/bin/bluetooth-applet: bluetooth-applet does not accept files

a simple workaround is to install xdg-user-dirs package and run
 xdg-user-dirs-update as a user.

the proposed patch has been applied to bluez-gnome 0.27 which I'm about to
upload.

I propose to include xdg-user-dirs-update as dependency for bluez-gnome,
or at least as a recomendation, because it cannot work without the config
 file created by xdg-user-dirs-update.

I'm reluctant to do this, see below.

It might be the case that the bug does not appear if gnome is
installed fresh, however I installed whole Debian fresh, and moved my
home directory from an old system and thus this still came out
 as a problem.

This is right, nowadays gnome tracks movements of user dirs and updates xdg user
dirs accordingly.

I've added a README.Debian in the form of:

bluez-gnome for Debian
==

In case bluetooth-applet fails to receive files try starting bluetooth-applet
from the command line, it should output

G_USER_DIRECTORY_DOWNLOAD is not set

or

G_USER_DIRECTORY_PUBLIC_SHARE is not set

in this case check if ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs contains the correct
directories, if that file doesn't exist installing the xdg-user-dirs package
and running /usr/bin/xdg-user-dirs-update will create it.

would be that ok?

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

It seems that the madvise() and preload() interface
are available only on Linux, but a symbol file is common
for all architectures.

See http://buildd.debian-ports.org/build.php?arch=pkg=ncbi-tools6

It might help to put into debian/rules something like

grep -v -e readdb_madvise -e readdb_preload libncbi6.symbols
libncbi6.symbols.kfreebsd-i386
grep -v -e readdb_madvise -e readdb_preload libncbi6.symbols

Bug#490439: emacs nags me about foreign directories

2008-07-12 Thread Harald Dunkel

Package: emacs22
Version: 22.2+2-2

emacs22 nags me about missing directories on each and every
restart:

Warning: Lisp directory `/usr/local/share/emacs/22.2/site-lisp' does not exist.
Warning: Lisp directory `/usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp' does not exist.

But dpkg -S shows:

% dpkg -S /usr/local/share/emacs
dpkg: /usr/local/share/emacs not found.

So emacs22 should either provide the missing directories, fix its
dependencies, or shut up.

Since it seems to work very well without, I would suggest option 3.

Bug#490440: Change default syslog daemon to rsyslog in time for lenny

2008-07-12 Thread Jonas Meurer
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: important
Tags: lenny, override

Hello,

It has been discussed to change the default syslog daemon for lenny.
This discussion took place both on debian-devel [1] and debian-release
[2],[3]. syslog-ng, msyslog and rsyslog all were mentioned as possible
alternatives for sysklogd, but in the end most people voted for
rsyslog, see for example [4] and [5].

Additionally, Debian Edu already switched to rsyslog for their Lenny
based version with success [6].

At least one lenny release manager mentioned that he doesn't object
against the change and that it's not to late for lenny either yet
[7],[8].

So if you don't have any objections, please invert priorities of
rsyslog and sysklogd+klogd in your overrides.

greetings,
 jonas

Bug#467117: Fwd: Re: [Pkg-hpijs-devel] Bug#467117: Confirmed: locale dependency in hp-toolbox

2008-07-12 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hi Hplip developers!

Mark brought to my attention that he does not know of a upstream fix for
the locale dependency reported in

http://bugs.debian.org/467117

and lots of other bug reports.

I offered to inform upstream about this issue, but didn't do it till now.
But there appears to be an upstream bug report as well:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/225970

So I kinly ask: What is the status of this issue? Do you intend to fix the
locale dependency? I search for locale in my mailing list archive but
didn't find anything.

Only other option I see would be to start hp-toolbox via a wrapper script
that sets english locale, but then all others would get a completely
english hp-toolbox.

Better fix would be just to start external commands using english or C
locale so that parsing their output works all the time. (Even better
would be to avoid parsing output of external commands... but thats a
different story.)

Yes, I seen that this mailinglist shall not be used anymore for
questions... thus I will also use Ask a question on the launchpad
projekt site for hplip... but since I wrote the mail completely now and
Debians bug tracking system loves mails, I will send it nonetheless.

Regards,
Martin

Martin,

As you might of seen from the BTS there are a lot of related reports about
using non english locales. I have linked these to the upstream reports.
However, there doesn't appear to be much action on this issue upstream.

If you can bring up on the other support forum that would be great.
