Bug#501879: mutt-patched: segfault when logging in gmail imap
Package: mutt-patched Version: 1.5.18-4 Severity: important Mutt-patched will segfault immediately when trying to login my gmail imap boxes, while mutt counter-part won't. Maximizing a window and restoring the original size leaves two horizontal lines at the top and bottom of the restored window, cf. the attched screenshot. They go away by moving the window around. This should be fixed in libgl1-mesa-dri 7.2-1 from experimental (and upstream Git mesa_7_0_branch). 2. When I move the mouse pointer over the maximize or minimize buttons of a window, thin horizontal bars appear above the respective buttons (not visible in screenshots). Fortunately docbook-xml does seem to be the only package affected after all. I've gone through my earlier list of packages using dh_installxmlcatalogs, and there are only six packages with a newer version in Lenny than in Etch. Out of these, all the other five can be upgraded succesfully with the above recipe. I think (but haven't systematically verified) that the other five succeed because they re-register the same catalog information in the postinst, so it doesn't matter that 'prerm upgrade' failed to remove the old information. (The update-xmlcatalog script only bails out with an error if asked to add catalog information with an existing key but different contents. If the key and the contents match existing data, it will just exit succesfully.) Bug#496410: The possibility of attack with the help of symlinks in some Debian packages
Hi, It looks like there are some more tempfile creation problems in the redhat-cluster source package. 1) In rgmanager/src/daemons/main.c (line 707): void dump_internal_state(char *loc) { FILE *fp; fp=fopen(loc, w+); dump_config_version(fp); dump_threads(fp); dump_vf_states(fp); #ifdef WRAP_THREADS dump_thread_states(fp); #endif dump_cluster_ctx(fp); //malloc_dump_table(fp, 1, 16384); /* Only works if alloc.c us used */ fclose(fp); } ... dump_internal_state(/tmp/rgmanager-dump); This file is part of the binary clurgmgrd (package rgmanager) which is run as root. 2) In gfs2/edit/savemeta.c (line 27): #define DFT_SAVE_FILE /tmp/gfsmeta ... if (!out_fn) out_fn = DFT_SAVE_FILE; out_fd = open(out_fn, O_RDWR | O_CREAT, 0644); if (out_fd 0) die(Can't open %s: %s\n, out_fn, strerror(errno)); if (ftruncate(out_fd, 0)) die(Can't truncate %s: %s\n, out_fn, strerror(errno)); This file is part of the binary gfs2_edit (package gfs2-tools) which is run as root. 3) In ccs/ccs_tool/upgrade.c (line 223): sprintf(tmp_file, /tmp/tmp_%d, getpid()); tmp_fd = open(tmp_file, O_RDWR | O_CREAT |O_TRUNC, S_IRUSR|S_IWUSR) ... unlink(tmp_file); The filename is only depended on the PID of the process. Though, the binary ccs_tool does not seem to be part of any package built from the redhat-cluster source package. Hi, mlview seems to have quite a few crasher bugs (#500940, #500619) and is dead as a parrot upstream (one unanswered user question in 2007, no ML activity at all in 2008). Bug#501869: [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#501869: passwd(1) stops shadowing if /etc/passwd is edited manually
On Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 10:31:47AM +0800, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Please document on the passwd(1) man page or better yet fix somehow: If a line in /etc/passwd has been changed by hand and not with passwd(1) or vipw(1), then from then on any users who change their passwords using passwd(1) will cause their encrypted password to be visible in /etc/passwd, until the day the administrator runs pwconv(8). E.g., # ed /etc/passwd #e.g. forgot passwd, rescue from grub rw init=/bin/sh /root/s/:x:/::/ w q # passwd #then after rebooting and logging in, set a passwd # grep root /etc/passwd root:$1$cBD... This is not under control of passwd(1). passwd uses PAM to change the password. Hence, the password might not even be written in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow, depending on the configured PAM password module. In your case, you can change the above behavior by adding the shadow option to the pam_unix line. I will add a note indicating that on PAM enabled passwd(1), PAM is used to authenticate and to change the password in the password database. P.S., also you might want to mention on the pwck(8) man page that it doesn't check that shadow information might be sitting exposed in /etc/passwd. I would prefer to add a check/warn when a password is specified in /etc/passwd and in /etc/shadow, or when a password is specified in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow exists. Also warn to not run pwck on /etc/group. I don't see the need for this. pwck clearly indicate that it should be run on the passwd and shadow files. Also you might want to add SEE ALSO pwck(8) to passwd(1) and shadow(5). I've added pwck(8) to passwd(5) and shadow(5). I don't see why it should be on passwd(1). Also add SEE ALSO gshadow(5) to shadow(5). In fact there are lots more see also connections that should be made between the members of $(dlocate -man passwd), e.g., pwck-grpck... Or perhaps give all on each page... I've added pwck-grpck, but I don't see why other pages should be linked. For example gshadow(5) and shadow(5) describe 2 different file formats which are not directly linked to each other. Done Thanks, now I see that there is indeed a dependency loop: the lenny version of initscripts conflicts with the etch version of insserv and vice versa, so apt has to remove one of these packages before the other one can be unpacked. The bug is that it chooses the wrong package, namely the required package initscripts instead of the optional insserv. A possible solution would be for insserv to depend on a recent version of initscripts instead of conflicting against older versions, thus breaking the dependency loop. Bug#500336: grub - Misguides Xen images
Hi, sorry for not replying directly but somehow the mails of this report got lost for me, update-grub adds 2.6.26-1-686-bigmem with a Xen hypervisor to the grub config. This image does not support to be loaded as initial domain by the hypervisor. I don't get this Xen stuff There is this [0] message from Ian Campbell which says that there's no way to dertermine if a CONFIG_PARAVIRT=y + CONFIG_XEN=y runs in a Dom0 or not. # diff -u config-2.6.26-1-*|egrep 'XEN|PARAVIRT' CONFIG_PARAVIRT_GUEST=y CONFIG_XEN=y CONFIG_XEN_MAX_DOMAIN_MEMORY=8 +CONFIG_XENCTRL=y CONFIG_PARAVIRT=y -CONFIG_XEN_BLKDEV_FRONTEND=m +CONFIG_XEN_BLKDEV_FRONTEND=y -CONFIG_NETXEN_NIC=m -CONFIG_XEN_NETDEV_FRONTEND=m +CONFIG_XEN_NETDEV_FRONTEND=y CONFIG_HVC_XEN=y CONFIG_XEN_FBDEV_FRONTEND=y CONFIG_XEN_BALLOON=y CONFIG_XEN_SCRUB_PAGES=y So should we also grep for CONFIG_XENCTRL=y to be more on the safe side that this kernel can be loaded with the Xen hypervisor? There was a bugreport that we shouldn't look for *-xen-* in the filename, because some other thing uses xen too which has nothing to do with the Xen virtualization if I remember correctly and for custom kernels this wouldn't work anyway. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#501903: Problems with cups web interface not working

Bug#501889: allow autoloading of tuareg-eval-*
Package: tuareg-mode Version: 1:1.45.6-1 Severity: wishlist Once tuareg mode has been loaded, in whatever Emacs buffer, all tuareg-* functions become available. Still, it would be useful to allow the usage of some tuareg-eval-* function even if tuareg-mode has not been loaded yet. My use case for that is writing slides about OCaml using LaTeX. In such a scenario I haven't loaded tuareg-mode because I'm living in LaTeX major mode and for sure I don't want to load it. Still, I do want to be able to select OCaml snippet and eval them using either tuareg-eval-region or tuareg-eval-phrase. AFAIU (Elisp newbie here) to make this work it would be enough to add a couple of autoload directives to the involved functions. Bug#492837: remove mozilla-bookmarksftp from lenny
Hi, according to the discussion in #492837, mozilla-bookmarksftp is completely unusable with the lenny's version of iceweasel and fixing will be finding a new upstream (because it's dead) and uploading that. That's too invasive at this point of the release cycle, so mozilla-bookmarksftp should be removed from lenny if not lenny and unstable. Emmet Hikory [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Fair enough. While it makes it easier for me to do what I'm doing, the fact that it's a rare use case, insecure-by-default, and not too hard to script is sufficient for me to withdraw the request in the face of any opposition, rather than fix the patch more generally. If someone else has a strong enough feeling that it should be present, I'm more than willing to update the patch to meet the guidelines above. I believe it is a nice option to be supported, even more that the Debian Embedded effort is starting to be integrated on the distribution. With that in mind, I also believe it is not worth to get it included in Lenny and then we should postpone it for after release. Bug#501855: upgrade-reports: initscripts Conflicts/Pre-Depends loop

The bug is that it chooses the wrong package, namely the required package initscripts instead of the optional insserv. Reassigning a copy of this bug to the affected packages. A possible solution would be for insserv to depend on a recent version of initscripts instead of conflicting against older versions, thus breaking the dependency loop. Insserv maintainers, what do you think? If that isn't done, the insserv package must be removed on upgrades, which will not be a good user experience and may break a lot of things (see #475478). Bug#494984: Bug #494984 Critical temperature reached on the EeePC models 701, 900
Dear developers, I have experienced that bug when starting from battery and as reported it does not occur when starting from main supply. It happen when loading the hald module and I do not have knowledge of how the hald works to call temperature monitoring. However from past experience in electronic it looks like an initialisation problem of either a variable in the hald code or more likely in the hardware itself as it shows only when differently powered up. If you know how to modify the hald loading sequence, you could try to initialise twice the temperature reading and take only into account the second reading in the check of temperature limit. Alternatively you could modify the temperature monitoring module itself to take the average of two successive temperature reading and compare it to the limit, this way the average may be within limits even if the first reading is out. I hope that this help solving the problem. -- Regards / Amitiés Robert Lainé http://www.sailcut.com Free CAD for sails and hull http://sailcut.sourceforge.net GPL source code -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#492837: remove mozilla-bookmarksftp from lenny
Indeed it is useless in lenny, thus should be removed from release for the sake of clarity, but I would drag it within sid -- may be some effort would appear to fix it up to be compatible with firefox 3.0, so we could patch it within Debian. Cheers Yarik On Sat, 11 Oct 2008, Thomas Viehmann wrote: Hi, according to the discussion in #492837, mozilla-bookmarksftp is completely unusable with the lenny's version of iceweasel and fixing will be finding a new upstream (because it's dead) and uploading that. That's too invasive at this point of the release cycle, so mozilla-bookmarksftp should be removed from lenny if not lenny and unstable. Bug#488877: ITP: libtrollop-ruby -- command-line argument processing library
Excerpts from daniel's message of Sat Oct 11 06:11:21 -0400 2008: Just dropping a note to ask if you're getting anywhere on packaging Trollop? I have made a package, in the apparent absence of activity on your end, so I'll take over this ITP and get it uploaded 1 week from now if I don't hear anything further from you. Yes, I have it packaged and am planning on finally uploading everything this week. If you will need it for some other package, are you interested in co-maintainership? -- things change. Bug#499081:
With ESD turned on, and Play System Sounds true, I get this bug after a an hour or so. It means a complete loss of my Gnome session, and manually killing a pulseaudio process from a virtual console. Apparently I am the only one seeing it. If I turn off system sounds then I don't seem to strike it, but this seems more by good luck: how can playing system sounds cause me so much grief? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Perhaps extended or full-featured? I just chose the one which I found in the distribution README. I think that standard is intended here in the sense of standardization process, which is one of the thing batteries is trying to do, rather than in the legacy sense. But yeah, I understand your perplexity, help is much appreciated both in the short and in the long description :) As a starting point for the latter I was considering once more the README, which states: Batteries Included serves the following purposes: * define a standard set of libraries which may be expected on every compliant installation of OCaml * organize these libraries into a hierarchy of modules, with one source of documentation * define a standard set of language extensions which may be expected on every compliant installation of OCaml * provide a consistent API for otherwise independent libraries. Bug#501894: liferea: segfaults when closing a tab with embedded flash content
On Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 12:37:34PM +0200, Hans-Juergen Becker wrote: liferea crashes when closing a tab with embedded flash content. To reproduce: a) configure liferea to open links in new tab b) open *exactly one* link with embedded flash in new tab c) close that tab If you open the link two or more times, bug won't show. Does this happen if the flash content was embedded in a feed entry and you open the entry in a tab, or would that count as opening two times? I can't seem to reproduce this, but I'm on amd64 and viewing flash with the nspluginwrapper so I'm pretty certain the environment is too different. I wasn't sure about the severity of this, as it causes data-loss of two different kinds: * Your metadata (read/flagged/deleted) get lost All your metadata, or what you had flagged in the session? If it's all of it this is definitely RC. * The latest headers have to be downloaded again Well, this is a bother but hardly data-loss. Normally i would say it's critical but didn't want to open more release-critical bugs without prior discussion, so this goes as important. Are you losing more than one or two minutes of metadata? If so, I'd say this is RC. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
