Bug#514096: Minimum Profit text editor version 3.x can destroy UTF-8 files

2009-02-04 Thread Angel Ortega
Package: mped
Version: 3.3.17-1
Severity: critical
Tags: lenny

If you open and save files in an UTF-8 environment (the default in
lenny and any other modern system), non-ascii characters can be
incorrectly saved as question marks or simply deleted.

This bug is fixed in unstable (version 5.1.1-1).

Thanks,

We've found a way of making twinkle work with a pulseaudio setup (on

You have to launch twinkle with padsp and then configure as follows :

# Ring tone : OSS /dev/dsp
# Speaker : OSS /dev/dsp
# Microphone : ALSA default device

Hope this helps.

Bug#514009: Release notes: section about Braille displays in installing.dbk/installing.po

2009-02-04 Thread Christian Perrier
(CC debian-accessibility)

After yesterday's rush to restore material related to Braille displays
in installing.dbk of the release notes (see bug #514009), I took more time (and
lost
some sleep) in looking at that issue in more details.

Finally, I think I was *right* by removing the section about Braille
displays. This is not a new feature in Lenny. That was really a new
feature in Etch.

Was is new in Lenny's installer is the support for some *voice
synthesis devices*, which are aimed to be used also by
visually-impaired usersthis is what added the confusion.

As a consequence, I think that, finally, the part I re-added about
Braille displays should indeed be removed again.

And, of course, the translations should be resynced again.

Eventually, a section about voice synthesis devices could be added,
but I don't have written material for this.

Please note that I won't have time for this in the upcoming 2 days.

Bug#514098: debootstrap: /dev/fd isn't created

2009-02-04 Thread Frank Lin PIAT
Package: debootstrap
Version: 0.3.3.2etch1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have installed a lenny VM under etch using xen-create-image
(package:xen-tools). It uses debootstrap to install the guest system.

The symlink /dev/fd wasn't created during the installation.

I am not sure which package should create the file (debootstrap,
mkinitramfs/udev...)

This seems to be fixed in Lenny because running debootstrap lenny ...
on a lenny system works fine.

Typically, bash_completion expects to find it (at bash prompt, type
ls then press tab), and complains with:
ls -bash: /dev/fd/62: No such file or directory
-bash: /dev/fd/60: No such file or directory

As a workaround, one can manually execute:
 ln -s /proc/self/fd /dev/fd

Franklin

Personally I think the profusion of tiny packages is not all that nice.
It would be better to solve that problem (that the administrator should
be able to choose whether to run the daemon) with a debconf question.

I would agree with Kurt's comments about the separation between
packages.

Currently, git-daemon is in git-core. I don't think a debconf prompt for
every installer of git-core would be a good idea. Most people are only
going to be interested in the client.

As a sysadmin I'd prefer a git-core/git-remote-access-methods split
where the former contains all client stuff and the latter may post a
debconf question which services to run and which daemonizer to use.

But I'm just a single sysadmin and programmer.

Bug#512285: found bug in bind9 atomic operations for alpha, patch included

2009-02-04 Thread Juhana Helovuo

Florian Weimer kirjoitti:

* Juhana Helovuo:

Package: bind9
Version: 1:9.5.0.dfsg.P2-5.1
Followup-For: Bug #512285

The cause of this bug (#512285) seems to be bug in the implementation of
atomic operations for the Alpha processor. Some of the parameters to the
inline assembly operations are specified to be write-only (results),
when they are in fact used in a read-write fashion. This causes the
current gcc (4.2.4) to allocate some of the parameters into the same
physical registers, causing unintentional aliasing.

Interesting, thanks. Have you provided this information to upstream?

I suppose we could also use the __sync_* primitives, or libatomic-ops.

Yes, I reported this to bind9-bugs list at ISC also, but so far there is
no (human) reply. I got ticket-id [ISC-Bugs #19227].

Furthermore, it seems that while my patch does help, it does not
eliminate the problem. Named still crashes 1-2x / day due to the same
assertion failing. Before the patch there were crashes about every two
hours.

I have rebuilt bind9 source package with configure option
--disable-atomic, and I am running that version to see if it solves
the problem.

If this helps, then it seems that there is still some unknown bug in the
ISC atomic primitives for Alpha.

Other odd observations:

1. Named with threading allocates a lot of memory. Right after startup
the process size is 148M virtual / 41M RSS. However, it does not seem to
grow very much after that. rndc command reports 21 zones loaded, none
of which is large.

2. One of the ISC atomic operation primitives, isc_atomic_store, seems
strange, as I cannot understand how it produces different results from
an ordinary (aligned) store instruction on Alpha.

Best Regards,
Juhana Helovuo

Bug#514100: smb4k: Please stop building the konqueror plugin in squeeze

2009-02-04 Thread Sune Vuorela
Package: smb4k
Version: 0.9.4-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

smb4k depends on konqueror - kde3 (because it does a sidebar plugin for
konqueror)

kde3 konqueror will dissapear right after lenny release.

so either you need to
 - build a version without the sidebar plugin
 - drop smb4k in debian (Many people would be sad if you chose this)
 - upload a kde4 edition of smb4k.

If you can make it build without a kdebase-dev dependency, it would be
enough for option 1.

I personally hope we can kill off kde3libs for squeeze, but I'm not too
optimistic in that regard yet.

mono-devel is used (whilst using experimental for the rest by default)

Bug#514104: kpogre: should not build-dep on kdebase-dev

2009-02-04 Thread Sune Vuorela
Package: kpogre
Version: 1.6.2-1

kpogre bulid-depends on kdebase-dev, but doesn't use anything from
kdebase-dev.

Please only build-depend on the package you need. In this case,
kdelibs4-dev.

This will become rc when lenny is released and kdebase sourcepackage is
from kde4.

I agree. Either a debconf question, or a default behavior of using
sysvinit in the main package that is overridden if the git-daemon-run
package is installed would make sense to me.

It's nice that git-cola allows to check in individual hunks of a
modified file. Checking in single hunks works well. But right after a
hunk gets staged the Diff View isn't shown correctly. Instead of
displaying the hunks from top to bottom it appears like all hunks get
joined onto a single line. Perhaps the @@ at the beginning of a hunk
  isn't detected correctly or something.

When git-cola gets in this state, do you think you could send me the
output of simply 'git diff'? That's fundamentally what cola is
 parsing.

I just tried to reproduce it with a fresh file but failed miserably. I
tried with '@@' in the string, with overly long lines, added non-ASCII
characters and even used swear words but I don't see the behavior any
more. Perhaps just bad luck the first time I used git-cola.

Feel free to close the report or tag it as unreproducible. I'll be back as
soon as I see the effect again.

Cheers
 Christoph

Bug#506689: texlive-lang-cyrillic: gost71u BibTeX style is not fully compatible with UTF-8

2009-02-04 Thread Hilmar Preusse
On 23.11.08 Andrey (cmr.p...@gmail.com) wrote:

Hi all,

http://bugs.debian.org/506689

 Package: texlive-lang-cyrillic
 Version: 2007.dfsg.3-3
 Severity: normal

The package provides BibTeX files gost71s.bst, gost71u.bst,
gost780s.bst, gost780u.bst. They implement GOST (Russian state
standard) for bibliographic data. The use of GOST is required by
 Russian academical publishers.

Unfortunately, these style files do not fully support UTF-8
encoding. The problem with gost71u.bst file is solved by the following
 patch (suggested at
 http://mydebianblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/bibtex.html):

I've forwarded the bug ot the author of gost anf got the following
input. Please comment if possible.

snip
As far as I know, BibTeX8 does not support UTF-8. (Please correct me
if i am wrong).
The patch allows to create bibliography in UTF-8 by not abbreviating
first and middle name (which allows to get desirable result from
UTF-8 encoded .bib files when initials are abbreviated in a
database). However, bibliography in UTF-8 cannot be sorted (no csf
file for UTF-8 since BibTeX8 does not support it). And, patch breakes
intended behaviour of the package with other encodings.
So, patch provides only partial workaround and problem cannot be
solved without proper UTF-8 support in BibTeX8.
snap

Thanks,
  Hilmar

Bug#514113: exim4-config: REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA macro setting ignored

2009-02-04 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.69-9
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Setting REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA in exim4.conf.localmacros has no effect
because it is shielded (in transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp*) by
.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_FROM_DNS instead of
.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA.

Fix: in these files:
- transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp
- transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp_smarthost

replace the line reading:
.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_FROM_DNS

by:
.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA

Best regards,
Marco

Bug#514115: tk: Tk and Tkinter applications broken in Metacity window manager

2009-02-04 Thread Miguel Filgueiras
Package: tk
Severity: important

Applications implemented in Tcl/Tk and in Python using Tkinter
fail to raise their own toplevel windows when working under the Metacity
window manager. This is the case with gpsman and the practical result
is that part of its functionality is broken (e.g., buttons that do
nothing) and users can be unaware of new toplevels that are created
under existing windows and are not visible by failing to be raised.

You can retrieve small tests in Tcl/Tk and Python from

http://www.ncc.up.pt/gpsman/tmp/testraise.tcl

[run with: wish testraise.tcl]

http://www.ncc.up.pt/gpsman/tmp/testraise.py

[run with: python testraise.py]

These tests create 3 windows each with two buttons for raising the other
two using the standard ways: raise command in Tcl/Tk and tk_raise method
in Python+Tkinter. To reproduce the bug, run each program under
Metacity, move the windows so that they partially overlap the others and
then try to use the buttons. Both programs do nothing at all.
Under other window managers (kwin, sawfish, wmaker, fvwm2) all of them
work as expected.

I submitted a bug report to Bugzilla

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567528

but the last answer to it was that I should file a bug with the
language developers as they need to provide a way to send
_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW (and with a correct timestamp!) when trying
to bring this window to user's attention.

As Metacity is used by default in many Debian distributions this
problem is likely to severely affect many applications and therefore
two weeks ago I also submitted a general bug report to Debian

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=512401

that was not answered in any way, apart from an automatic reply.

Best regards,
Miguel Filgueiras

This test creates 3 windows each with two buttons for raising the other

the program under Metacity, move the windows so that they partially overlap
the others and then try to use the buttons. There will be only a
change of focus but the windows are not raised.

Bug#514109: linux-image-2.6.28-1-amd64: WARNING: at arch/x86/mm/ioremap.c:226 __ioremap_caller+0xf0/0x2d4()

2009-02-04 Thread Luca Capello
Package: linux-image-2.6.28-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.28-1~experimental.1~snapshot.12650
Severity: normal

Hi there!

I hope it is OK to report bugs in the unofficial kernels to the official
Debian BTS, please correct me if I am wrong.

At every boot with 2.6.28 (and at every resume, too), I get the subject
error and, if I read it correctly, the cause is in the DRM code.
However, this does not seem to cause other problems, but I do not use
any OpenGL application.

The bug is present in the latest version as well (~snapshot.12670). I
can provide a full syslog (including a suspend/resume cycle, where the
error appeared twice), if needed.

Feel free to ping me for any test :-)

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Personally I think the profusion of tiny packages is not all that

administrator should be able to choose whether to run the daemon) with

When I started to develop an init replacement in 2001, integrating it

possible, and so helps init replacements. I don't think debconf
question work out that fine.

Furthermore the separation has this advantage
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/08/msg01314.html

Yes, the profusion of tiny packages might not be ideal, but in my
opinion it's a reasonable cost for the added flexibility. After all,
the number of packages will increase anyway, and sooner or later we
need to optimize the package database performance.

Regards, Gerrit.

Bug#514118: please backport fix for bug that causes flac datacorruption

2009-02-04 Thread Christine Spang
Package: python-mutagen
Version: 1.14-1
Severity: grave

Mutagen 1.14 contains a bug that can cause data loss if a user tries
to tag FLAC files with more than two channels.

This is noted in the release announcement here:
http://groups.google.com/group/quod-libet-development/browse_thread/thread/e7e928533c5ce3fd

We should really try to get this fixed for Lenny.

Regards,
Christine

Bug#514119: mpdtoys: vipl struggles on some UTF-8 chars, playlist entries get lost

2009-02-04 Thread Frank Blendinger
Package: mpdtoys
Version: 0.8
Severity: important

When I use the vipl command to edit my playlist, I get these errors when
there are songs with (rather weird, but probably valid) UTF-8 chars in
my playlist:

Wide character in print at /usr/bin/vipl line 53, GEN0 line 53723.
and
/usr/bin/vipl: no matches for ...

The songs are lost in the playlist when vipl has finished.

The usual mpd clients (mpc, ncmpc[pp], qmpdclient, gmpc) don't have
problem with those songs, therefore I think vipl should not, too. What
also works, and has the same purpose as vipl is mppledit[1], but I'd
rather use vipl, since it has a more verbose format for the playlist and
seems to perform much faster.

Here is a full output of vipl, I hope the UTF-8 characters will be left
intact in the mail:

Bug#514120: git-buildpackage: can not set options for debuild

2009-02-04 Thread Thomas Koch
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.4.46
Severity: normal

I wanted to call
git-buildpackage --git-ignore-new --no-lintian
with the --no-lintian option forwarded to debuild, but the standard
debuild invocation is
debuild -i\.git -I.git
and the added --no-lintian end up as
debuild -i\.git -I.git --no-lintian

debuild seems not to recognize own options anymore after a
dpkg-buildpackage has been given, so --no-lintian is forwared to
dpkg-buildpackage, which errs about this unknown option.

Bug#514112: Openoffice 2.4 (lenny) crashes when opening template files from ooffice 2.0.4

2009-02-04 Thread Kerstin Hoef-Emden

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.4.1-17
Severity: important

From one day to the other, openoffice started crashing when I tried to
open a spreadsheet.ots that has been set up under openoffice 2.0 from
etch. It asks for a recovery of files, then upon opening crashes no
matter whether I tell it to recover or not. All other spreadsheets that
I tried to open thereafter, crashed, too. I have tried to solve the
problem by renaming the .openoffice.org2 directory and by completely
reinstalling the office suite together with the German menu package and
the German help file. Current status is that I can open all other files,
but it still crashes when trying to open the *.ots file from openoffice
2.0.4. The file itself is not damaged, since it still can be opened by
openoffice 2.0.4 and causes openoffice 2.4 to crash when I copy it to
the other computer with the lenny install. Apparently, ooffice2.4 cannot
handle this file, which is simply an empty template with formulas to
compute averages, standard deviations and min and max values for data
that are supposed to be inserted in future.

When I double-click the file to open it directly, the error message is:
Durch einen unerwarteten Fehler ist OpenOffice.org abgestürzt. ... Die
folgenden Dokumente werden wieder hergestellt: (= OpenOffice.org
crashed due to an unexpected error. ... The following documents will be
recovered.)

However, the box below does not show any documents, but is empty.

I am using kernel 2.6.26-1-686 and libc6-i686 2.7-18.

Bug#514121: xpdf: double free or corruption (out) in fullscreen with fit width

2009-02-04 Thread Thomas Arendsen Hein
Package: xpdf-reader
Version: 3.02-1.4
Severity: important

To reproduce:
$ wget
http://kolab.org/doc/Allgemeine-Betriebsdokumentation-KolabServer22_20080103_1.0.pdf
$ xpdf Allgemeine-Betriebsdokumentation-KolabServer22_20080103_1.0.pdf
Type 'Alt-F' to view in fullscreen
Type 'w' to enable fit width
Repeat 'Page Down' until the next page would be displayed.

The crash does not happen when not using fullscreen (1280x800 in my case)
or not using fit width.

Hi Brett,

the existing code does this already, as far as I can tell. It checks
for ABS_X or ABS_Z for the x axis, and ABS_Y or ABS_RX for the y axis.
Why is your patch necessary on top of that? (the code rework and
whitespace changes that are also in this patch make it hard to see the
real changes, if any)

Cheers,

_Description: Automatically fetch list of hosts to choose from?
Please choose whether the list host names managed with your account
should be fetched to allow you to choose which one(s) to update.

 Rationale:
 - the synopsis could be better, maybe
 - your account's hostnames might not be easy to understand if people
are loosely aware that one can manage multiple host names under one
   account.
 - maybe mention your DynDNS account if this is specific to
DynDNS...to make it clearer that the account we're talking about is
the account on the dynamic DNS service provider
 - hostname--host name : I indeed don't remember if we already settled
 onthat one..:-)

Hello,

The ddclient/fetchhosts template is only used when DynDNS is selected as
a service, so saying your DynDNS account should be fine in this case.

I'll update the patch with the new templates once we've hammered it out
here.

Take care,

The Alias and AliasMatch directives cause different script_name's to be

Alias shows the desired behaviour and sets sth like:

AliasMatch shows the full request path like:

This does not conform to the CGI spec[1]

in the created package, that you must agree on when downloading the source.

This utility will require you to download the Oracle SQL Developer for other

Luk, you have libglpk from experimental (4.35).

Yes, this is what I suspected.

It is unfortunate that this bug happens. In a perfect world that would not
have been the case. I mean, since octave3.0_3.0.1-6lenny2 depends on
libglpk0 = 4.29, the Octave binding for GLPK must work with libglpk0_4.35-1
(the version in experimental) but it doesn't.

The problem arises because since version 4.32 of GLPK, the __glp_lib_*
symbols are not exported anymore. As Andrew Makhorin explained in a message
to bug-glpk [1], those symbols have never been part of the published API.
He then removed them form the list of exported symbols without bumping the
SOVERSION of the library.

[1] http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-glpk/2008-10/msg00010.html

Now, both 3.0.4 and 3.1.51 packages in Debian fail with the libglpk0 package
in experimental. The problem seems to have been fixed in Mercurial [2] and
we should backport it to our packages before they migrate into unstable.

This file is included with the name ExifTool_config in the perl

package, so I'll leave this up to the maintainer. If the .args
files are included in the debian package, this should probably go in
the same spot. If the .args files aren't included, maybe they

Yes, I do. I normally use an Ethernet credit card adapter for

By the way, your web site (http://panopticon.csustan.edu/thood/tp600lnx.htm)

 - the synopsis could be better, maybe
 - your account's hostnames might not be easy to understand if people
are loosely aware that one can manage multiple host names under one
   account.

Indeed. List of _hosts_? Until I'd seen the bugreport, reading
the templates left me baffled as to what this was offering to do.
Are all the different hostnames alternative names for a single PC,
or names for several machines on my LAN, or what? When should I
expect the choosing to happen - will it be the next question, or
will it happen once a week, or what? And what is it exactly that's
going to be updated, and when? It doesn't mean you can now choose
which ones should immediately be updated, it means you will soon
choose which ones should be kept updated from now on, right?

 - maybe mention your DynDNS account if this is specific to
DynDNS...to make it clearer that the account we're talking about is
the account on the dynamic DNS service provider
 - hostname--host name : I indeed don't remember if we already settled
 onthat one..:-)

There should never be a space in username, but even whatis
hostname refers to the system's host name.

If I've understood what's going on, I'd suggest:

_Description: Fetch list of host names?
The next question will be about the host name(s) that should be kept
updated. Please choose whether you want to select from a downloaded
list of the host names managed via your DynDNS account.

(Should there also be a line explaining what will happen if you
choose no?)

 +Template: ddclient/hostslist

+ Select one or more hosts to update using ddclient

 _Description: Host names to update:
Please choose, among the list of host names managed under your

AIUI ddclient doesn't update hosts, or even hostnames, and it won't
do it just once; it maintains the online server's DNS records so
that the selected name is always assigned to your current address.
How about:

_Description: Host names to keep updated:
The list of host names managed via your DynDNS account has been
downloaded. Please choose the the one(s) that ddclient should
   take care of.

(Any ideas for a clear and concise way of expressing exactly what it
is that's kept updated?)

On January 13, 2009, version 2.21-02 was released. Changes since
current debian version include matching on whitespace useragent, which
feature I'm really interested in. Also security fixes are included.

Including this version in debian would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michiel,

This is true and due to personal reasons I'm way behind my
schedule, I had the intention to upload a package to experimental
with the new version right after DebConf, but Real Life (tm)
sometimes really sux.

I would like to upload a new package in February, it may
show up in experimental if I upload it before Lenny become stable.
Thanks for updating the bug info. :-) And sorry about the delay.

Kind regards,

2009-02-04 Thread John Goldwater
I'm not sure why this is a kernel bug.  s2ram works fine alone, like I said.
When the lid is closed and then opened, the machine does wake up.  For
instance, if I have music playing in the background before closing the lid, the
music resumes playing after I open the lid.  The lcd also turns on.  However,
it remains black (with the mouse frozen), and the machine is totally
unresponsive to user input.

Thanks for your prompt replies.

Yes, it must be that installing octave3.1 pulls in the newer version.
Downgrading to 4.29 in sid works for both octave3.0 and 3.1.

BTW, what mechanism is used to let the octave runtimes be found by the
oct modules? Just want to learn a bit more.

Thanks again,

Bug#514128: bind9: rndc dumpdb fails with permission denied

2009-02-04 Thread Glenn English
Package: bind9
Version: 1:9.5.0.dfsg.P2-5.1

Dumping the cache (rndc dumpdb) fails with permission denied because the Debian
config runs bind9 as used 'bind', but the directory rndc tries to write the
dump file into
doesn't allow user 'bind' to write in the directory. Adding 'dump-directory

Since you cited it worked for you in Lenny, I tried to trace it and

reassign).

It's dumped into:

Have you changed default directory? I think it works out of the box

Bug#444182: pata disabled in ata_piix

2009-02-04 Thread Frank Loeffler
Severity: important

Hi,

I was looking into the same hotswap issue and found to my surprise that
the debian kernel has the needed support _removed in the kernel sources_.

I found why this section was removed in the first place: because of bug
#419458 - two drivers claim the same ids and there is a race as to
which wins during boot, leading to different naming schemes of the
devices.

That bug should be fixed, but I think it is really going too far to
remove the support of devices from some drivers in the source.

The current situation forces Debian users to either patch the Debian
kernels everytime there is an update and build their own packages - or
to build upstream kernels. This in mind I think the patch might do good
things on one side, but does more bad things on another side.

Please consider to drop this patch and to allow for pata support in the
piix driver. It would be very nice to have this in the next major lenny
update, for lenny itself it is long too late now, sadly.

I consider the severity of this bug to be important because it has a
major effect on the usability of the package (in this case the ability to
hotswap my hard drives / dvd drive; that is what the bay in those laptops
is for in the first place) without rendering it completely unusable to
everyone.

thanks, Frank

Bug#514101: buildd.emdebian.org confusing repositories

I added those to software sources. Installing the emdebian tools messed up
the lenny dpkg package. Make clear that
those repositories should not be added on the host machine.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll be changing all references to the above
URLs to www.emdebian.org/crush and I'll try to make the site clearer
about when these sources should be (and should not be) used. Expect the
changes next week (after FOSDEM).

If there are particular pages where there need to be changes other than
simply the URL, please let me know by replying to this bug report.

Sorry for all the confusion.

Bug#514048: Missing dependency on zlib1g-dev

2009-02-04 Thread zlinuxman
Documentation/lguest is not built during the normal built. See for
example the linux-2.6 build. So you did something different and have to
 show what you're really calling.

Hmm. Well, I used kernel-package, and I believe the command was something
like this:

make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version -custom1-686 --revision 1 \
kernel_image

That is the way I have been building custom kernel image packages since
sarge. I probably don't need lguest, but make-kpkg wants to compile it
for some reason, and the compile error stops the process. Maybe I forgot
the make-kpkg clean command, or something like that. I'll try it
again tonight and see how it goes, making sure I do a make-kpkg clean
first.

I just managed to reproduce this with plain IPv4 traffic: sending
a huge file to the machine via SSH killed the network chip. The only
way to get the network card to work again for any sort of traffic
was with a rmmod/modprobe cycle of the driver.

Joy!

I hope to exchange the motherboard soon so be sure that this isn't

Thanks. I didn't want to include it directly in dpkg-source and so decided
to extend the (new) code related to vendor handling so that we can have
vendor-specific logic on some hook points (they will be created as needed
and don't have any stability guaranty, but we will accept to merge
vendor-specific objects in dpkg itself).

Can you review and try the code here ? (only two commits on top of master)

git://git.debian.org/~hertzog/dpkg.git (branch pu/vendor-handling)
http://git.debian.org/?p=users/hertzog/dpkg.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/pu/vendor-handling

This change will also make the Closes: field of .changes files in Ubuntu
references Launchpad bugs instead of Debian bugs. AFAIK nothing uses
Closes on the Ubuntu side so this doesn't break anything and instead might
help in the future… this is also the fix for #499924, James, I hope it's ok
with you.

Set DEB_VENDOR=Ubuntu in the environment if you want to try it out
and make sure you have a file /etc/dpkg/origins/ubuntu with the
vendor name inside (until #487437 is implemented in both Debian and
Ubuntu).

Just leaving a note again.

After rebuilding cairo and installing my self-built version,
regardless of xulrunner packages (official or self-built 1.9.0.5-1),
no crashes.

Crashes reappeared when I reverted to official cairo packages (1.6.4-7).

Still no clue on the reason why this only happens on one of two
computers I've been using.

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool used in adtool is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD, libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package:

  libtoolize -c -f
  aclocal-1.7
  autoconf

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks in advance

 Why should it provide git-daemon-run?

When I was creating Debian packages over the last years, private ones
and official ones, I sometimes wanted to make a package depend on a
service daemon (just the program), and sometimes depend on a service
(the daemon and the service enabled by default). If anyone designs a
Debian package that needs a running git-daemon service, it can simply
depend on git-daemon-run, if it just needs the service daemon, it can
depend on git-core. For the first case, there can be multiple
implementations of git-daemon-run.

In my experience, having the init script in a different binary package
than the daemon causes problems on upgrade. Mostly that the daemon
isn't running aymore after an upgrade.

Hmm, I don't know these problems, but they sound solvable.

Regards, Gerrit.

Hi,

Kerstin Hoef-Emden wrote:
From one day to the other, openoffice started crashing when I tried
 to
open a spreadsheet.ots that has been set up under openoffice 2.0 from

Durch einen unerwarteten Fehler ist OpenOffice.org abgestürzt. ... Die
folgenden Dokumente werden wieder hergestellt: (= OpenOffice.org
crashed due to an unexpected error. ... The following documents will be
 recovered.)

I bet this is the same as #513743 / #513482. Can you confirm?
(Run gdb /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin, enter run, do stuff,
enter bt when the crash happened)

Grüße/Regards,

René

The user was created in d-i; the groups were
jon dialout cdrom floppy audio video plugdev
I subsequently added the user to
   powerdev fuse

Both versions of d-i (stable and testing) have the following list of
default groups:
audio cdrom dialout floppy video plugdev netdev powerdev

Cheers,

Also, while the real mac address starts with 00:50:DA:... the mac address
reported by udev and ifconfig is usually one out of the following:

00:0a:00:50:16:3f
00:0a:00:50:2c:7f
00:14:00:50:16:3f
00:14:00:50:2c:7f
00:09:76:ab:da:ad (only seen once)

The according interface looks ok (e.g. ifconfig eth1) but an attempt to ping a
node on the network will either result in a system lookup or the appearance of
the following entries in /var/log/syslog:
