Bug#517190: lxde: Does not support the Debian Menu
Dear Daniel, LXDE fully uses freedesktop.org menu standard. The lxpanel and lxlauncher both really depends on the .desktop file. But not every debian packages provide the .desktop file which made a annoying problem for our users. And other ITP packages such as lxshoutcut and lxsession-edit are also depends on the freedesktop.org menu standard. However, I don't have any experience on debian menu system. May it works together with freedesktop.org standard? And would you have time to help to make both lxpanel and lxlauncher support the debian menu system? -Andrew -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#462189: wxwindows2.4 is scheduled to be removed
On Wed, 22 Apr 2009, Kevin Rosenberg wrote: 1) It's stored in a local git repository. I've made local git branches for porting to wx2.6 and wx2.8 I wonder whether it might be a good idea to spend all effort on wx2.8 exclusively given the fact that wx2.6 is outdated as well. with the main changes being conversions of all strings to Unicode. The source compiles without warnings, but segfaults during GTK font initialization. While I havn't any experience with wx and my GTK experience is only from very outdated GTK 1.2 I think it is a good strategy to track down problems like this to make a copy of your program and remove part by part so long as the error occures. Try to get the smallest piece of code which showas the problem - which should not be that much considering the fact that you said it is at font initialisation which should be quite at the beginning. When doing so in most cases I have seen the problem myself and in the remaining cases this small testcase is an easy target for helpers hanging around on relevant mailing lists I've worked a bit with the wx maintainer so took a look at the error, but no solution has been found. Any logs / extract of this discussion to not waste time on reproducing just the same? I'd suggest to CC Debian Med mailing list for such discussions - the list is not that much crowded that it can not bear some extra technical discussion. I went as fair as to comment out all the application-specific code from the wx startup function, but it still segfaults. I looked for string overflows, but didn't find any. Which tool did you use? valgrind? 2) I had the minor changes for Homepage, Vcs, Standards-Version -- but haven't uploaded them since the main issue is that I've not been able to successfully port to wx2.6 or 2.8. That's fine. Also there is no real need to upload such kind of cosmetics if you know that there are more pressing problems in the code. The problem regarding a missing Homepage tag is that there are different points of view: From a single package point of view it is a minor problem whether the homepage information is given in long description or in a separate field. From a distributors point of view (or from the blends perspective) information is harvested and used for a larger set of packages and it makes a more important point to provide a complete set of information fields. New techniques evolved since the last upload of CTSim for instance the Debian Med tasks pages and if you look at the CTSim entry[1] it looks foolisch to say that there is no homepage avialable and mention this page later in the long description. Considering the fact that new users are approaching from the distributors side and look at the large image before they dive into specific packages it would serve our users better if we would care better for things like this and so from a users perspective an updated package (even if it is rather cosmetics than technical progress) might make sense. Plus, I made those changes to the 2.6 or 2.8 branch and haven't quite figured out how to apply that patch to the wx2.4 (main) branch. As I said above if I where you I would try to force 2.8 to become main branch to make sure not to lag behind up to date libraries. The burden to maintain 3 branches in parallel using outdated libraries for two of them does not sound like a good strategy from an outsiders point of view. My guess is that you have to keep a working installation running for your local uses and so you are bound to the old wx2.4 based version - but if I were you I would put all effort into the wx2.8 based version. 3) I'd welcome help with the wx port and fixing current bugs. If group maintenance is the best way to achieve that, then I'm agreeable to that. Well, there are different steps inbetween if you are not completely happy with the way we agreed upon working together in the Debian Med team. Given the fact that it is generally a good idea to let the world know about the current status of your work - in our case related to Debian packaging - we invented the Debian Med svn[2]. There is actually no need to group maintain the package to use the SVN - single maintainers are welcome as well even it has turned out to be easier to apply such kind of changes like Homepage and Policy. We might be perfectly able to take this burden from you - I admit it is not much of a burden but Free Software more or less works that way that those people do the job who are at most interested to get it done. So group maintenance would have ensured that CTSim would look better on the tasks pages even now without draining any time of yours. It is your choice whether you think this is important for you or not. Alternately, I can handle all of the sophisticated mathematics in the program, so perhaps one time help on the wx port would be all would be necessary. Well, the Debian maintenance is not so much about your upstream code. We most probably will leave it untouched (as long
Bug#521146: aolserver4: General update after the debconf review process
Dear Debian maintainer, On Monday, March 09, 2009, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a review action on debconf templates for aolserver4. Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation updates. Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts. Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your development tree as long as they were reported. The attached tarball contains: - debian/changelog with the list of changes - debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions - debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s) - debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones) As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here, preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting errors have been corrected. The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s) alone. Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control file(s) of your package as of Monday, March 09, 2009. If your package was updated in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not modified such files while the review process was running, remember..:-) It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes. Please notify me of your intents with regards to this. There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to fix this. -- patch.tar.gz Description: Binary data --- aolserver4.old/debian/aolserver4.templates 2009-03-09 08:26:43.163102951 +0100 +++ aolserver4/debian/aolserver4.templates 2009-03-29 10:15:09.342820372 +0200 @@ -1,33 +1,38 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: aolserver4/hostname Type: string Default: localhost -_Description: Server hostname: - AOLserver server needs an hostname to be exposed on redirect pages URL and for - informative purposes to identify itself. +_Description: Server hostname: + AOLserver needs a hostname to use for redirect page URLs and for + identifying itself. . - It is generally the fully-qualified DNS hostname of the computer or - localhost, if it is not networked. Hello, Yes, this is expected if you disabled the keyboard plugin. The message also appears when the plugin is not disabled. Does your ?modified X.org? has the XKB extension available? No, it does not have that extension. That is probably the reason for the wrong keyboard layout. I think that the gnome-settings-daemon should perform a test for availability of the xkb extension and simply let the keyboard layout alone if xkb is not present. Asier ha scritto: Oh, one more problem with this bug. Now the fakeraid array gets detected, but when booting it detects an inconsistency in size and prompts for Ctrl+D or root password. If I enter Ctrl+D the boot process continues, the fakeraid array gets detected and mounted. Which version? the new 1.0.0.rc15-7? did you have that error with 1.0.0.rc15-6 fixed dmraid-activate? Can you paste the complete error please? A camera snapshot would be fine. Cheers, Giuseppe. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#525243: Xen Dom0, DomU, multipath and LDAP upgrade hints.
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Package: upgrade-reports Severity: normal On a set of IBM Blade HS21 running on the top of a SAN IBM DS-4700, with some Debian Xen Dom0 and DomU, I had the following issues : On Debian Etch-Lenny Dom0 * I had to reinstall xen-tools. It was already installed but it seems that upgrade remove the package. * Install manually linux images and linux modules. It seems those packages were not upgraded (linux-image-2.6-xen-686 linux-image-2.6.26-1-xen-686 linux-modules-2.6-xen-686 linux-modules-2.6.26-1-xen-686) On Debian Etch-Lenny DomU * Add extra = ‘console=hvc0 xencons=tty‘ in each domU configuration[1] * Install linux-modules-xen-686 on each DomU * Install udev, which is not installed by xen-create-image. This wasn't a problem under Etch, but with Lenny you'll get Troubleshooting PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 when accessing via SSH[2] On Debian Etch-Lenny with multipath * /sbin/scsi_id has moved to /lib/udev/scsi_id, this can break multipath, just change the configuration (before reboot). * mpath_prio_tpc has been renamed to mpath_prio_rdac, again configuration need to be changed (before reboot). * udev rules have been changed, so before your path was XpY, now it's X-partY, so change all your path in /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/menu.lst. * scsi_id options have changed. Change -s /block/%n to - --device=/dev/%n, so change configuration. - Don't forget to rebuilt initrd when those changes are done. On Debian Etch-Lenny, drivers * For network card Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708S Gigabit Ethernet (rev 12) install firmware-bnx2 from non-free (not needed with Etch). About OpenLDAP and the bug 504728, affecting the use of cn=config, I think this should be stated in the release notes. The use of cn=config is recommended by OpenLDAP documentation. People that upgrade to Lenny with this bug will : - Rebuild openldap - Revert configuration from cn=config to .conf files. As the bug doesn't show up before any configuration changes are made, your OpenLDAP server seems to have been well upgraded, but when it shows up you're in a hurry to fix it. This are the glitches I had when upgrading my servers, it's listed on my wiki[3], but I might be useful for others. Thank for your great work, Etienne. Bug#525247: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686: iwl3945 fails to detect WPA TKIP wireless network
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-686 Version: 2.6.29-3 Severity: normal My wireless network is no longer detected with 2.6.29 whereas it used to work with 2.6.26. The network is a WPA 1 TKIP. I noticed that neither lib80211_crypt_ccmp nor lib80211_crypt_tkip are loaded... which may indicate some kind of problem with the renaming of the 80211 API in 2.6.28 (IIRC), similar to what is reported in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=487445 (although for a different driver). I tried and load these modules manually before or after modprobing iwl3945, with no more success. In any case, this looks like a regression. Thanks in advance. Bug#525248: exim4-config: typo in update-exim4.conf.conf manpage
Package: exim4-config Version: 4.69-9 Severity: minor Hi! The manpage of update-exim4.conf.conf states: CONFIGURATION VARIABLES All lists given in configuration variables are semicolon-separated. In the past, they used to be colon separated. This was changed to semicolon separation to make specification of IPv6 addresses easier. Backwards compatibility is preserved, so that old configurations using colons as separa‐ tors do still work. Colons are deprecated and might stop working in a later release. If you need to specifiy a single IPv6 address in a field that are defined as a list of host names or IP ^^^ addresses, please prefix ; to explicitly specify the list separator as a semicolon. Otherwise, the code cannot tell an IP address from a colon-separated list of strange host names. That should either read in fields that are defined or in a field that is defined. Well, at least something basic in /usr/share/doc/nagios-plugins-standard/README advising the user on where to find docs : URLs and/or indicating how to get more details, for instance exliciting that the plugins' scripts can be issued with --help. It's fr from obvious how to use them, until one discovers that invoking them with --help provides a manpage. Hmm ... isn't that one of the standard way in *nix environments to get help? Well, for normal commands meant for users, which reside in /usr/bin and likes, yes, but for scripts which may not necessarily be commands at first sight, that may not be so much natural : it's not obvious (unless one knows details of nagios implementation) that such plugins are actually scripts that can be launched from the CLI (and not some kind of libraries invoked by some nagios daemon under some more complex invocation protocol). They did it on merulo (ia64) and pescetti (powerpc). I can perfcetly launch octave on those machines and successfully run the offending command in postinst: octave-3.0.5 --silent --no-history --no-init-file --eval pkg ('rebuild'); (although not as root). Bug#423457: wakeonlan: extract MAC from IPv6 address
On Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 11:10:50AM +0200, Thomas Prochaska wrote: this is about the common way of autoconfiguring IPv6 addresses by creating the host-specific interface identifier (the lower 64 bits of the address)from the Ethernet address of the host. This can indeed be reversed, so the request makes sense. That's right. But I think the question is if that is always possible. The interface doesn't necessarily have to be autoconfigured. Maybe we can think of a way to handle this cases. The autoconfigured addresses have the bytes 0xFF and 0xFE in the middle of the MAC address to fill the lower 64 bits. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#525261: use of FPU_SETCW or FPU_GETCW causes illegal instruction on armel
Package: glibc Version: 2.9-7 /usr/include/fpu_control.h on armel defines FPU_[SG]ETCW as VFP coprocessor instructions, whereas armel is soft-float. #define _FPU_GETCW(cw) \ __asm__ __volatile__ (mrc p10, 7, %0, cr1, cr0, 0 : =r (cw)) /* This is fmxr fpscr, %0. */ #define _FPU_SETCW(cw) \ __asm__ __volatile__ (mcr p10, 7, %0, cr1, cr0, 0 : : r (cw)) Packages that use these cause an illegal instruction trap on hardware that does not have a VFP unit (and misleadingly set the FPU control word on those that do, while softfloat remains unaffected). This was highlighted by build failure of gerris - see Drew Parsons' messages in http://lists.debian.org/debian-arm/2009/04/msg00018.html He suggests that the right thing for fpu_control.h may be simply not to define these macros but I don't know if that's right. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#524962: Could not find/open font when opening font arial, using internal non-scalable font
Well, it is very unlikely to find the arial font on a Debian system. However, even if I have the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package installed which does install the Arial font, this error message persists. Please by setting the environment variable GDFONTPATH to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts/ it should work if you have installed the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package. See http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/faq/faq.html#SECTION00091000 for changing the default font. The second best choice may be cdrdao but note that cdrdao is not maintained anymore since 5 years. There have been a few bug fixes since then but no nore. libburnia has other problems: 1) It is non-portable and thus limits portability of brasewro 2) It depends on a Linux privileges problem and will force other platforms to run brasero as root if it may be ported. cdrecord is the best way to deal with this as it implements a clean separation between the privileged task of sending SCSI commands and a complex and thus hard to review GUI code. wodim is unmaintained, just represents an old (4+ years old) state of cdrtools and wodim cannot be legally distributed because of Copyright and GPL problems. wodim should have the lowest priority. Hello, On Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 12:24:19PM +0300, Tzafrir Cohen wrote: This 'priv' field was removed to prevent direct access to it. Well, actually the field has been phased out, and replaced with anonymous storage at the end of the structure, which makes it possible to have device specific structures in the netdev struct, which actually probably saves a tlb lookup to dereference priv :-).
