Deluge torrent also could not start up, therefore might be some
problem triggered from the upgrade. Please refer to #526863 for
 details iceweasel debug info.

How did you install 4.6? Because it's not in Lenny and there is no
backports available. Multiple stuff may have been upgraded too, so you
may have a completely inconsistent system. Anyway, it's an iceweasel
problem, not an Xfce one.

Unless the information you provide help us understand in what it's Xfce
related, I think you'll have to stay with the iceweasel bug (and anyway
if you have an inconsistent system indeed I'm not sure what we can do)

Bug#527196: saned doesn't provide access to scanners anymore.

2009-05-06 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Package: sane-utils
Version: 1.0.20-1
Severity: important

While running unstable, I just upgraded libsane package. What happens
now is that saned will not list any scanner to remote applications.

I the simplest setup, have a fi-5110C connected via USB, run saned via
inetd, and list scanners via scanimage. You will only see local
scanners, while scanner via sane_net won't be listed.

Example:

giuse...@scarafaggio:~$ scanimage -L
device `fujitsu:fi-5110Cdj:103792' is a FUJITSU fi-5110Cdj scanner

This is what is printed to syslog:

May 6 07:47:34 scarafaggio saned[1624]: saned (AF-indep+IPv6) from
sane-backends 1.0.20 starting up
May 6 07:47:34 scarafaggio saned[1624]: check_host: access by remote host:

giuse...@127.0.0.1
May 6 07:47:36 scarafaggio saned[1624]: saned exiting

Trying to connect directly to the scanner doesn't work either:

giuse...@scarafaggio:~$ scanimage -d net:localhost:fujitsu:fi-5110Cdj:103792
scanimage: open of device net:localhost:fujitsu:fi-5110Cdj:103792 failed:

Bug#527198: fortunes: misattribution of Match Game quote in humorists

2009-05-06 Thread Aaron Hall
Package: fortunes
Version: 1:1.99.1-3
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The Match Game quote at the end of /usr/share/games/fortunes/humorists,
has a couple of small errors.

First, the The young people are very different... ditty is
misattributed. His name is Nipsey Russell, not Lipsy Russell. (This
required adjusting the spacing of the whole thing.)

Second, I corrected what's likely a typo: Kids to use to to Kids used
to.

Thanks for maintaining such a cool package, and for your work in Debian
in general!

What I hope is a useful patch follows (I don't do this much):

Bug#527200: apt-key fails if GREP_OPTIONS isn't defined

2009-05-06 Thread Horacio Penya
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.20.2+lenny1
Severity: important

Hi!

apt-key fails if GREP_OPTIONS is not defined. The guilty lines are:

set -e
unset GREP_OPTIONS

and, if apt-key fails, updating apt fails too (it's called on postinst)

way to reproduce it:

$ unset GREP_OPTIONS;apt-key update || echo fails
fails
$ GREP_OPTIONS=a apt-key update || echo fails
(it works)

I think that changing the order of that lines to:

unset GREP_OPTIONS
set -e

should fix the problem.

Thanks!

Please check the documentation for the bug tracking system. There is
no version ‘6.2.4’ of this package, and there is no patch on this
report, so the above information isn't correct.

Also, this bug has been reported already in bug#519382, so I'm merging

Hi,

it seems that this bug is in bsdmainutils instead of sysvbanner for a
few reasons. first is that bsdmainutils seems to be installing it into
/usr/games/ as a hack around the fact that sysvbanner already puts a
program in /usr/bin/banner. Second is that sysvbanner is an older
package than bsdmainutils.

However, what about the good old smbpasswd? It also lives in private

Anyway, whatever we decide about this, we need to reconsider what

So, basically, what we're doing here seems to be:

-say that private dir will be /etc/samba
- but then replace it with state_dir when it's used

The consequence is that files end up in /var/lib/samba but in a very
weird way..:-)

We can probably discuss whether they belong to /etc/samba(/private) or
/var/lib/samba but anyway we can probably simplify all this

Bug#526823: libc6: Not fixed in 2.9-10

2009-05-06 Thread C Bispham
Package: libc6
Version: 2.9-10
Severity: normal

I am still experiencing this problem with libc6 2.9-10. I first saw it
in 2.9-4. 2.9-6 fixed it. It broke again with 2.9-9 and the upgrade to
2.9-10 did not help. The opendns work-around does work for me (but I
really don't want to use opendns). Thanks.

Bug#525780: Problem is incorrectly handling id3v2.3.0?

2009-05-06 Thread John Sullivan
I did some further debugging on this tonight, using another track that
showed the same problems.

(Pdb) id3.version

(Pdb) data
'\x00Bill Evans\x00\x00'

(Pdb) frame

(Pdb) frame.pprint()
u'TPE1=Bill Evans / '

I think there's an issue with differences between 2.3 and 2.4 not being
handled.

http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0#head-05145d86196104464db40d63035e402ee3c504e7
says:

If the textstring is followed by a termination ($00 (00)) all the
following information should be ignored and not be displayed.

Since the id3.version is identified as 2.3, it should drop everything
after the first terminating null byte, instead of splitting it into a
list, which then leads to the pretty printer joining those parts with a
slash -- in violation of the spec.

At the moment I'm just doing this:

--- id3-orig.py 2009-05-05 22:52:55.0 -0400
+++ id3.py  2009-05-06 02:47:06.0 -0400

 except zlibError, err:

 raise ID3BadCompressedData, '%s: %r' % (err,
 data)
-
+data = data.rstrip(\x00)
 frame = cls()
 frame._rawdata = data
 frame._flags = tflags

which fixes my particular issue, but probably doesn't address the real
problem.

Oh thats good. I misread the output on my first Debian bug reply.

libmtp8 seems to be the issue. I removed that package and then I could
update-initramfs -u and dpkg --configure -a to continue my upgrade. I
reinstalled it after my upgrade and now sudo update-initramfs -u still fails

Bug#506381: It's an init script problem

2009-05-06 Thread Matus UHLAR - fantomas
Hello,

I think this is a problem of init script - it should not fail when wwwoffle
is not running and it was requested to stop it. That is required by debian
policy, section 9.3.2.

This is the problematic part of init script:

if start-stop-daemon --stop  --signal 15 --quiet --exec $DAEMON;
then
  echo ...done.
  exit 0
else
echo ...failed, daemon was not running.
  exit 1
fi

it should be imho changed so the not running daemon should not be taken as
error (--oknodo argument to start-stop-daemon), and in such case the error
should not be taken as not running but probably unspecified error

Bug#413142: evolution-exchange: Unable to authenticate to Exchange Account that previously worked

2009-05-06 Thread Cedric Blancher
Package: evolution-exchange
Severity: normal

This issue has come again with 2.26.1-2.

Basically, an Exchange account that is working fine with 2.24.5-1 will
reject your authentication after upgrading to 2.26.1-2. Settings have
not been touched in any way and I double checked them. Couldn't find
anything unusual.

Workaround: downgrading back to 2.24.5-1 solves the issue, but folders.db
files seems to get randomly corrupted in the process, as described here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/327057

(deleting folders.db files then launch Evolution back solves this issue)

Note that this bug has been file against evolution 2.26.1.1-1 (#525966):

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=525966

To me, it is way more severe than normal, and I can confirm it.

This error is seen on all 64 bit arches.

 Boost 1.34's /usr/include/boost/serialization/collection_traits.hpp
 is missing a #include climits

 Can be worked round by #including it from LayerMap.hpp instead;
and it's fixed in Boost 1.38 (maybe earlier too).

Thank you Steve.

I just checked the git log of fusecompress, and this same fix is there in the
new version (also in incoming).
The new release, most possibly, should fix this bug.

Bug#525966: evolution: All exchange connectivity is gone... Confirmed...

2009-05-06 Thread Cedric Blancher
Package: evolution
Severity: normal

Upgrading to evolution 2.26.1.1-1, therefore to evolution-exchange
2.26.1-2 breaks existing Exchange accounts authentication.

This bug should be rated Important as it breaks important feature
for some users. A similar bug has been filed against exolution-exchange
(#413142):

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=413142

Another user reported the same issue yesterday:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=413142#35

Downgrading everything to 2.24.5 solves the issue, with a minor but still
annoying folders.db files corruption. Cf.:

Bug#527126: nautilus: dbus error message when unmounting is a bit long

Le mardi 05 mai 2009 à 20:49 +0200, Alexandre Rossi a écrit :
When unmounting a removable device (typically an USB key) after some large
 data
transfers, nautilus says it is impossible to remove the device with the
 following error message:

Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
 expired,
or the network connection was broken.

Before this happens, could you please launch a pair dbus-monitor
processes to monitor what nautilus could be asking on the session bus
and the system bus? You should see there what message doesn’t get a
reply.

inotifyx is a Python extension providing access to the Linux inotify
file system event notification API. It is primarily written in C but has
 some Python window dressing.

Great, we were missing such tools.

What does it bring over pyinotify or GIO ?

I think the best way we can handle this is to have in debian-multimedia

This should be cleaner than a conflict with a non-official package.

 Christian, what do you think?

Why did you change the package name ?

Bug#527219: broken (internal) dependency on turbojson: quickstart fails

2009-05-06 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: python-turbogears
Version: 1.0.8-1
Severity: serious

Turbogears is currently unusable (at least starting from scratch) in
unstable and testing. There is an incompatibility between the shipped
turbogears (which wants a turbojson 1.2) and the shipped turbojson
(which is 1.2). You can see the incompatibility below:

I've no idea whether there is a fix other than upgrading to a newer
turbogears or adding a temporary turbojson package with the old
version (or if the requirement is bogus); nevertheless as long as
the issue is there, the conflict must be expressed at the dependency
level, so that user installations do not break without them noticing.

I've been told that in Lenny the issue is not there, but I haven't
checked by myself.

Cheers.

PS beside the final effect being the same (quickstart failure), this
bug seems to have nothing to do with #396025

Bug#521918: pbuilder --build --binary-arch invokes 'build' target

2009-05-06 Thread Petr Pudlak
Hi,

thanks for valuable comments, now it makes more sense to me. The problem was
that my 'build:' target is dependent on build-arch and build-indep targets (as
generated by dh_make when I started with the project). When pbuilder invokes
'debian/rules build', both these targets are called.

I looked at text4ht's debian/rules and there you simply commented out the
'build:' target. I tried the same thing and it works nicely.
(My original debian/rules, without this modification, is here:

http://git.debian.org/?p=debian-science/packages/eprover.git;a=blob;f=debian/rules;hb=master
 )

Now I'm just concerned about (violating) Debian Policy (Sect. 4.9). It states
that the 'build:' target is mandatory. Should I leave 'build:' commented out,
possibly violating the policy, or perhaps include it just empty, removing its
dependencies on 'build-arch' and 'build-indep', so that the policy is
satisfied?

With best regards,
Petr

If you invoke pbuilder --binary-arch then it in turn invokes
debian/rules binary-arch. So it looks as if your binary-arch target
is running the complete build target.

In the case of the tex4ht package I have chosen to create two
targets build-arch and build-indep which are invoked by the
appropriate binary-* targets. You can browse the SVN repo of the

Bug#527205: ITP: inotifyx -- Simple Python binding to the Linux inotify file system event monitoring API

2009-05-06 Thread Adeodato Simó
+ Ritesh Raj Sarraf (Wed, 06 May 2009 12:23:06 +0530):

Hello!, and thanks for your interest in packaging new software for
Debian.

 * Package name: inotifyx
   Version : 0.1.0
Upstream Author : Forest Bond for...@alittletooquiet.net
 * URL : http://www.alittletooquiet.net/software/inotifyx/
 * License : MIT/X
   Programming Lang: C, Python
Description : Simple Python binding to the Linux inotify file system
 event monitoring API

inotifyx is a Python extension providing access to the Linux inotify
file system event notification API. It is primarily written in C but has
 some Python window dressing.

Could you please include in the description a few lines on why would one
want to use inotifyx instead of the already available pyinotify bindings?
By reading the upstream homepage, it already mentions:

  | Reasons you might choose inotifyx over pyinotify:
  |
  | * inotifyx is a C extension and does not use ctypes, making it faster
  | and less prone to subtle breakage due to changes in the inotify API.
  |
  | * inotifyx is a much thinner wrapper around inotify. pyinotify is more
  | complicated. It does provide features that inotifyx does not, but many
  | of them are not needed by most applications.
  |
  | * The API provided by pyinotify seems to change in incompatible ways on
  | a fairly regular basis and with little justification. inotifyx has a
  | simple API that will change rarely, if ever.

Maybe that's a bit too long for the description, but it should be easy
enough to summarize those arguments for the long description.

By the way, do you have preview packages available already?

Cheers,

You're right. I missed the one in the multistreambuf header itself. My
apologies for that. A new version is coming up in a minute (or so)

Thanks for reopening the bug.

Bug#527225: apache2 metapackage misses -mpm-itk as alternative in Depends

2009-05-06 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: apache2
Version: 2.2.9-10+lenny2
Severity: minor

# apt-cache search apache2 mpm
apache2-mpm-event - Apache HTTP Server - event driven model
apache2-mpm-itk - multiuser MPM for Apache 2.2
^^^
apache2-mpm-prefork - Apache HTTP Server - traditional non-threaded model
apache2-mpm-worker - Apache HTTP Server - high speed threaded model

but:

# apt-cache show apache2 | grep Depen
Depends: apache2-mpm-worker (= 2.2.11-3) | apache2-mpm-prefork (= 2.2.11-3) |
apache2-mpm-event (= 2.2.11-3)

So when you install -itk (which I just did just for fun) you get the
apache2 metapackage removed. Nothing seriously bad, though, so minor.

if it's intended for some reason, nevermind and close the bug
or tag it wontfix)

Rene

 Hi,
thanks for reporting, this bug doesn't affect the version in
unstable/testing though as it builds against an external libmodplug.

I'll upload fixed versions for stable and oldstable later today.

I've uploaded them now to stable-security and oldstable-security.

Bug#525966: Proxy issue maybe?

2009-05-06 Thread Josselin Mouette
Hi all,

I’ve been experiencing similar issues while upgrading to evo-exchange
2.26, and it turned out to be caused by the proxy configuration. If I
configure a proxy manually in the evolution configuration, the exchange
connector fails and asks indefinitely for authentication. If I configure
the proxy at the GNOME level and select “use system settings”, it works
flawlessly.

Maybe you could check whether this is the same problem.

Cheers,

Hi!

I think the long description could do better than containing an URL to

be able to stand for itself I'd say and not contain links to external

So long, and thanks for your great work nevertheless!

Bug#525966: Proxy issue maybe?

 Hi all,

I’ve been experiencing similar issues while upgrading to evo-exchange

configure a proxy manually in the evolution configuration, the exchange

the proxy at the GNOME level and select “use system settings”, it works
 flawlessly.

Maybe you could check whether this is the same problem.

 Cheers,

Excellent call, I had completely forgotten about that.

I disabled my proxy config, and it all burst into life.

Many thanks for the suggestion.

Bug#527141: ITP: lutefisk -- Software for the de novo interpretation of peptide CID spectra

2009-05-06 Thread Filippo Rusconi

Does anybody consider this useful for biological research?

Well, I'd rather say that this software would pertain to the protein
chemistry field. I am using it in my work on some occasions, in
particular when collision induced decay (CID) data on a given ion
does not confirm the putative identity of a peptide.

So this program is definitely mass spectrometry-oriented. As other
tools I am either developing myself (massXpert) or simply packaging
(mMass), its aim is to help in the interpretation of mass
spectrometric data on biopolymers (proteins, in the specifics). As
such, I envision its Debian package as a member of the debichem
project.

Note that the algorithm of lutefisk has not evolved a lot since a
while, and the functionality can be considered stable.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,
 Filippo

The udev rules are broken, actually. Check the permissions on the USB

I'll obviously fix that in the next revision.

There is no doubt about the project it mainly belongs to. But there
are interrelations between these projects and

http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/bio

lists at least 5 projects where the maintainer is Debichem. So I
do not question the place where it is maintained but the users who
might be interested in using this software. There is no reason to
not recommend a package to biologists only because it is maintained
by chemists, right?

I just wanted to know whether there really are biologists who are
interested.

Kind regards

 Andreas.
