Bug#531145: findimagedupes: man page contains installation instructions

Bug#531476: mp3gain: corrupts the mp3 file
Stefan Fritsch wrote: If vlc crashes, there is obviously a bug in vlc. right, but I assumed that such a bug in VLC would be already fixed since a long time if it were triggered by normal (i.e. not badly corrupted) mp3 files. Have you tried playing it with a different player? I've tried with the default gnome media player (Ubuntu 9.04) and I got silence without the crash. However today I cannot reproduce the bug anymore, now it seems that mp3gain produces good files even for VLC... maybe the problem is somewhere else. If you undo the change with mp3gain -u file Does it work again? I did not try that and I cannot try now, unless this supposed bug shows up again. I'm going to do some work with mp3gain today, if you can leave this bug report open for a while, I'll report the results back in a few hours. Bug#515072: faad2 2.7 Transition
- Why are you hardcoding -DPIC and -fPIC into the CFLAGS in debian/rules? This should really be unnecessary. It is also unnecessary to set the optimization flags on purpose anymore. - Why do you run the entire autoreconf sequence in the override_dh_auto_configure rule? BTW, if you insist on doing so, please replace the ./configure call in line 20 with dh_auto_configure. - Why do you enable DRM support? In the past it has proven to make the library unusable. - libmp4ff-dev and faad2-dbg must depend on libmp4ff0. - Please avoid the .{a,la,so} bashism in the -dev install files. - Please use a *sane* watch file. The one you added is nearly unreadable. - * Move libfaad-dev to the front to be 'default' package debhelper acts on. WTF is the purpose of changes like this?! So far for the first check... Bug#531550: [openoffice.org-writer] manual duplexing nightmare - reorders page numbers, no support for manual duplex
Package: openoffice.org-writer Version: 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1 Severity: important Printing duplex on a printer without automatic duplex is a nightmare if one wants to print from writer. The most annoying and broken thing wrt to printing is that even if I select to print pages 5,3,1* (in that order), writer reorders them and prints them in 1,3,5 order making impossible to print large documents on both sides. Also, since manual duplexing is needed on many printers, this should be directly supported (print odd pages/print even pages) and should be possible even for a part of a document (e.g. duplex printing of pages 14 to 117 in a document of 200 pages). So, to consider this bug fixed, OOo-writer should at least NOT reorder the selected pages and should print them in the exact order they were given. To consider the duplexing issue fixed, proper odd/even + full or part of document printing support should be added. * You can imagine that I discovered this reordering bug while trying to pair the even pages of a document with the already printed odd pages and ended up having page 2 on the back of 17, 4 on the back of 15, and so on, although I listed the pages in reverse order exactly to counter this outcome (since the stack of pages was with the lower numbered pages at the bottom after the first side printing). --- System information. --- Architecture: amd64 Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-2-amd64 Debian Release: 5.0.1 500 stable security.debian.org 500 stable ftp.ro.debian.org 10 unstableftp.ro.debian.org 1 lenny-backports www.backports.org 1 experimentalftp.de.debian.org --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ===-+-=== openoffice.org-core (= 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1) | 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1 openoffice.org-base-core (= 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1) | 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1 libc6(= 2.7-1) | 2.7-18 libgcc1(= 1:4.1.1) | 1:4.3.2-1.1 libicu38 (= 3.8-5) | 3.8.1-3+lenny1 libstdc++6 (= 4.2.1) | 4.3.2-1.1 libwpd8c2a | 0.8.14-1 libwps-0.1-1| 0.1.2-1 libxml2 (= 2.6.27) | 2.6.32.dfsg-5 zlib1g (= 1:1.1.4) | 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#511083: strace: Problem with malloc in printstr. Patch provided
Package: strace Version: 4.5.17+cvs080723-2 Severity: normal In printstr, the malloc'ed memory for outstr is insufficient if the string to be printed is longer than max_strlen and is made of binary characters (expanded to \oct). There are two possible fixes. The worse one I think is to add if (size == max_strlen+1) size = max_strlen; just before the call to string_quote, while the better one is to limit size to max_stren as provided by the attached patch. Bug#531557: libpam-ldap: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Package: libpam-ldap Version: N/A Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Friday, May 15, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for libpam-ldap. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. However, please try to avoid uploading libpam-ldap with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, June 05, 2009, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until about Friday, June 26, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact that I simultaneously work on many packages. Around Saturday, June 27, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash --- libpam-ldap.old/debian/templates2009-02-14 12:19:34.483870281 +0100 +++ libpam-ldap/debian/templates2009-06-02 08:45:23.466305326 +0200 @@ -1,37 +1,50 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: libpam-ldap/rootbinddn Type: string Default: cn=manager,dc=example,dc=net -_Description: LDAP account for root: - This account will be used when root changes a password. +_Description: LDAP administrative account: + Please enter the name of the LDAP administrative account. . - Note: This account has to be a privileged account. + This account will be used automatically for database management, so + it will be granted the appropriate privileges. Bug#531556: etch-lenny: conflicting libarchive-tar-perl was not automatically removed
Package: upgrade-reports Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Hi, when I upgraded one of my Etch machines to Lenny, the new Perl 5.10 could not be installed because it conflicted with libarchive-tar-perl (version 1.38-3~etch1) which I had installed. As a consequence, all sorts of package managing scripts (debsums etc.pp.) broke, and nothing moved. I was able to manuall delete the offending package using dpkg, and get things going again, but I don't know if that's within reach of the end user because, at that point, the system was mostly non-functional because about half of all my packages were not correctly installed. I pretty much adhered to the release notes about upgrading from Etch to Lenny, and used Lenny's aptitude to do most of the job. I also recorded the upgrade process using 'script'. Here's an excerpt from that recording: Unpacking replacement perl ... dpkg: error processing /srv/apt/archives/perl_5.10.0-19_amd64.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/ptardiff', which is also in package libarchive-tar-perl dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) After I figured out that simply overwriting the file using --force didn't seem to do the trick, I removed the package manually: # dpkg --purge --force-depends libarchive-tar-perl dpkg: libarchive-tar-perl: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you request: spamassassin depends on libarchive-tar-perl; however: Package libarchive-tar-perl is to be removed. Bug#531520: Can't access my gnome desktop
What is the process list (ps auxwww) at the moment the login is locked up this way? Please see the attachment file To relate it with another bug, is compiz installed on your system? Yes, 0.8.2-6 Also if it means anything, exact workaround procedure would be to remove: 1. gnome-session (2.26.1-5) 2. gnome-session-bin (2.26.1-5) 3. gnome-desktop-environment Then, downgrade gnome-settings-deamon to 2.24.1-3, install gnome-session 2.22.3-3 and gnome-desktop-environment. After these steps you'll get your gnome working once again. Bug#527275: gajim hangs when playing sound
Could you try to set aplay -N in advanced configuration editor, for soundplayer option? I've already tried that, no difference. Actually, I'm wondering if the sound problem is just a symptom, not the real problem. Using artsplay just made it hang in a different way, without any zombie. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? GMAMEUI is a fork of the defunct GXMame project, with a number of enhancements over GXMame, among which the support for SDLMame and for more recent versions of MAME. This package should go in contrib because he depends on non-free packages (mame-*). Christian Right, since it depends on MAME (SDLMAME, XMAME - AFAIK only XMAME is in Debian atm), whose license is restrictive, I had put it in Section: non-free/games (debian/control). Was that the right thing (I must say I still have trouble with some Debian terms) or is there something else to do? Oh, and there's some licensing issues to check on some source files with upstream, so it will takea few weeks before it's uploaded to mentors.debian.net anyway. Bug#531562: Please make it more obvious when fonts are substituted
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1:3.1.0-4 Severity: wishlist Hi, I find it misleading that I don't get informed whenever a font is substituted e.g. in a Writer document. Don't get me wrong, I believe font substitution is a valuable feature and I have it enabled knowingly, but sometimes it leads to unexpected behaviour. For example, there is a document available on [1] that aims to compare the metrics of some freely available fonts with the ones from Times New Roman and Arial. If I have neither of these fonts installed on my system but only e.g. ttf-dejavu, then *all* fonts in this document will look the same on my computer since they all get substituted with the dejavu fonts. So all available text in this document will look the same, because it is rendered in the same font. However, when I highlight some text, the font chooser box still tells me that the current text is written in e.g. Times New Roman. This isn't wrong either, since the text is formatted in TNR, but it doesn't tell me that what I see is actually not TNR, but dejavu-serif. So what I'd like to see is some visible hint that tells me font A has been substituted by font B on my system, because font A could not be found. Thanks, Fabian [1] http://www.oooninja.com/2008/02/metrical-equivalent-fonts-and-font.html PS: I assigned this bug to the openoffice.org meta-package, because I think all parts of OOo that support font substitution are affected. -- Dipl.-Phys. Bug#531556: etch-lenny: conflicting libarchive-tar-perl was not automatically removed
severity 531556 serious reassign 531556 perl 5.10.0-19 retitle 531556 perl needs updated Replaces on libarchive-tar-perl kthxbye On Tue, Jun 2, 2009 at 12:20:44 +0200, Toni Mueller wrote: when I upgraded one of my Etch machines to Lenny, the new Perl 5.10 could not be installed because it conflicted with libarchive-tar-perl (version 1.38-3~etch1) which I had installed. The version of libarchive-tar-perl you had installed is not in etch, yet. An upgrade from plain etch would have worked. Reassigning to perl to hopefully get an updated version in lenny when the new libarchive-tar-perl gets into etch. Bug#523423: Rejecting Bug
tags 523423 + wontfix thanks Hi, I'm rejecting this bug because mirage and lyrics are not official plugins of Banshee, and I don't want to increase Banshee's dependency chain. IIRC, Recommends means that the packages would be installed by default. In the case of Mirage, having it enabled increases Banshee's CPU usage a lot during the initial import, and I'm not sure that everybody uses Mirage enough to be able to overlook that. -- Regards, Chow Loong Jin signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
