Bug#531145: findimagedupes: man page contains installation instructions

2009-06-02 Thread Andreas Tille

On Tue, 2 Jun 2009, Jonathan H N Chin wrote:

However, I agree that it makes little sense to retain it in the
debian manpage. I guess something like this sed line added after
the first one is probably all that you'll need in debian/rules

   sed -i '/^=head1 INSTALLATION/,/^=head1 /{/^=head1 /p;d;}' $(pkg)

OK, fine for me.

Thanks for your quick response

Andreas.

Bug#531476: mp3gain: corrupts the mp3 file

2009-06-02 Thread Lucio Crusca
Stefan Fritsch wrote:
If vlc crashes, there is obviously a bug in vlc.
right, but I assumed that such a bug in VLC would be already fixed since a long
time if it were triggered by normal (i.e. not badly corrupted) mp3 files.

 Have you tried
playing it with a different player?
I've tried with the default gnome media player (Ubuntu 9.04) and I got silence
without the crash. However today I cannot reproduce the bug anymore, now it
seems that mp3gain produces good files even for VLC... maybe the problem is
somewhere else.

If you undo the change with
 mp3gain -u file
 Does it work again?
I did not try that and I cannot try now, unless this supposed bug shows up
again. I'm going to do some work with mp3gain today, if you can leave this bug
report open for a while, I'll report the results back in a few hours.

Thanks,
Lucio.

Bug#522399: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#522399: No sound after upgrade to squeeze from lenny

2009-06-02 Thread Elimar Riesebieter
* Mario Moya [090601 22:01 -0300]
Hi, like this bug, after upgrade to Debian Squeeze, my sound isn't working.
First, i found the problem with alsa 1.0.19, but yesterday when update my
system, i install the new 1.0.20 version but the problem persist.

 $uname -a
 Linux samurai 2.6.26-2-486 #1 Thu Mar 26 00:13:41 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

( I try the old 2.6.26-1 linux image too, but the same :-( )

 $ lspci | grep -i audio
00:05.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev
 a2)

 $ lsmod | grep snd

Your driver list looks quite perfect. Maybe there are some mixer settings
muted? Did you updatet alsa-utils and libasound2 as well?

   Hello,

   Ping?

I see the severity was downgraded to wishlist. I'd like to highlight
that software speech support is one of the goals of the debian installer
for squeeze, so we really need to see that handled soon to have it well
   tested before the release.

  Patches are welcome ;)

 There's one already :p
Ok, here is a fixed version.

Thanks. Will check it. But whats about the staticly linked version?
Think we have to make a separate build for the udeb variants. Else
we need udeb variants for the 64bits. That alll doesn't look quite
easey at the moment, though.

Bug#515072: faad2 2.7 Transition

2009-06-02 Thread Fabian Greffrath
- Why are you hardcoding -DPIC and -fPIC into the CFLAGS in
debian/rules? This should really be unnecessary. It is also
unnecessary to set the optimization flags on purpose anymore.

- Why do you run the entire autoreconf sequence in the
override_dh_auto_configure rule? BTW, if you insist on doing so,
please replace the ./configure call in line 20 with dh_auto_configure.

- Why do you enable DRM support? In the past it has proven to make the
library unusable.

- libmp4ff-dev and faad2-dbg must depend on libmp4ff0.

- Please avoid the .{a,la,so} bashism in the -dev install files.

- Please use a *sane* watch file. The one you added is nearly unreadable.

- * Move libfaad-dev to the front to be 'default' package debhelper
acts on. WTF is the purpose of changes like this?!

So far for the first check...

Fabian

It depends on wireless-crda but this package is not in Debian. So I

This new kernel doesn't change anything to the problem. The behavior is

That's enabled already... See my initial email: the problem is that
when both static dynamic linking is enabled, automake gets it wrong
and uses only the dynamic objects. The patch I have submitted just
makes them work as well in static mode. Another way may be to build
alsa twice, once with --enable-dynamic --disable-static and a second
time with --disable-dynamic --enable-static, and then just copy the
libasound.a from the second compilation.

It seems to be a little tricky to patch Caret to work with VTK = 5.2. I

support newer VTK releases any time soon :(

I'll see what I can do, but it could take a while.

Help would be very much appreciated!

Bug#501704: Linking with llvm 2.3 fails with undefined reference to llvm::verifyFunction

Unfortunately, you raised this bug on 2.3-1~exp0 which is no longer in the
archive. I noticed that 2.5 does have llvm::verifyFunction. Would you be
able to re-test this and report back?

Actually it would quite an effort, because we are no longer using any
packaged llvm. :(

This is because (at least for the time being) on the frontend-part can be
used as a library. If you writing a backend and if you're adding
intrinsics you need to handle llvm yourself to keep binary compatibility
on the IR level and this is what we're doing now...

Sorry,

Hi,

after some trouble with serial cables, configuration, whatever I configured a
serial link to have a console.

Two weeks ago I upgraded my server with linux-2.6_2.6.26-15lenny2. I have
tested this version and still crash (log attached). On May 28th a new version
of the kernel was updated on security (lenny3), but I have not tested yet.
This version has a new patch for xen, but I don't know if this patch is for
the bug or not [1].

The crash occurs as always in my case at 6:24, when cron do some job.

Today I will update to test.

(Booting into Windows with the same setup works fine.)

Any ideas? This is rather a showstopper for me running Linux on the tablet

Does it work if you move xorg.conf away? If not, turn the ModeDebug

That said, I'd be surprised if it removed koffice with rdepends still there,

Hi there!

I know that this bug is ancient - do you still have this issue with
0.8.12 and/or 0.8.13 which are the more current irssi packages? There
have been many improvements with respect to encoding since 0.8.10 and it
might be very well that the newer versions would make your problem go
away.

If you can't reproduce it anymore please let us know so we can close it
with the newer versions. :)

Bug#531550: [openoffice.org-writer] manual duplexing nightmare - reorders page numbers, no support for manual duplex

2009-06-02 Thread Eddy Petrișor
Package: openoffice.org-writer
Version: 1:2.4.1+dfsg-1
Severity: important

Printing duplex on a printer without automatic duplex is a nightmare if
one wants to print from writer.

The most annoying and broken thing wrt to printing is that even if I
select to print pages 5,3,1* (in that order), writer reorders them and
prints them in 1,3,5 order making impossible to print large documents on
both sides.

Also, since manual duplexing is needed on many printers, this should be
directly supported (print odd pages/print even pages) and should be
possible even for a part of a document (e.g. duplex printing of pages 14
to 117 in a document of 200 pages).

So, to consider this bug fixed, OOo-writer should at least NOT reorder
the selected pages and should print them in the exact order they were given.

To consider the duplexing issue fixed, proper odd/even + full or part of
document printing support should be added.

* You can imagine that I discovered this reordering bug while trying to
pair the even pages of a document with the already printed odd pages and
ended up having page 2 on the back of 17, 4 on the back of 15, and so
on, although I listed the pages in reverse order exactly to counter this
outcome (since the stack of pages was with the lower numbered pages at
the bottom after the first side printing).

OPT4 is glib. libglib2.0-0 was updated today in sid, together with
gnome-session. Could the problem be with that package, then?

No, my guess would be the problem lies in the glib plugin of compiz.

I’ll disable it for now since it doesn’t look it is needed at all, but
let’s create a new bug in compiz itself.

Bug#531551: asterisk: Perhaps build-depend on rubber and (for kpsewhich) texlive-base-bin

2009-06-02 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.6.1.0~dfsg-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

I noticed that configure checks for, and in a clean build chroot fails
to find, the commands rubber and kpsewhich.

Both commands are related to LaTeX, so I suspect adding build-dependency
on rubber and texlive-base-bin (which contains the kpsewhich binary)
might improve documentation generation.

Please make libpreludedb ready to build with Python 2.6.

You should do these:

1) Add --install-layout=deb to setup.py install arguments list
2) Bump build-dependency on python{,-all-dev} to be at least 2.5.4-1~;
you could remove python build-dependency, python-all-dev provides all the

Bug#511083: strace: Problem with malloc in printstr. Patch provided

2009-06-02 Thread Loïc Grenié
Package: strace
Version: 4.5.17+cvs080723-2
Severity: normal

In printstr, the malloc'ed memory for outstr is insufficient if
the string to be printed is longer than max_strlen and is made
of binary characters (expanded to \oct). There are two possible
fixes. The worse one I think is to add

if (size == max_strlen+1)
size = max_strlen;

just before the call to string_quote, while the better one is to
limit size to max_stren as provided by the attached patch.

Bug#531557: libpam-ldap: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2009-06-02 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: libpam-ldap
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Friday, May 15, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for libpam-ldap.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading libpam-ldap with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, June 05, 2009, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Friday, June 26, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Saturday, June 27, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#531556: etch-lenny: conflicting libarchive-tar-perl was not automatically removed

2009-06-02 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hi,

when I upgraded one of my Etch machines to Lenny, the new Perl 5.10 could not
be installed because it conflicted with libarchive-tar-perl (version
1.38-3~etch1) which I had installed. As a consequence, all sorts of package
managing scripts (debsums etc.pp.) broke, and nothing moved. I was able to
manuall delete the offending package using dpkg, and get things going again,
but I don't know if that's within reach of the end user because, at that point,
the system was mostly non-functional because about half of all my packages were
not correctly installed.

I pretty much adhered to the release notes about upgrading from Etch to
Lenny, and used Lenny's aptitude to do most of the job. I also recorded
the upgrade process using 'script'. Here's an excerpt from that
recording:

Unpacking replacement perl ...
dpkg: error processing /srv/apt/archives/perl_5.10.0-19_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/ptardiff', which is also in package
libarchive-tar-perl
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

After I figured out that simply overwriting the file using --force
didn't seem to do the trick, I removed the package manually:

# dpkg --purge --force-depends libarchive-tar-perl
dpkg: libarchive-tar-perl: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you
request:
 spamassassin depends on libarchive-tar-perl; however:
Package libarchive-tar-perl is to be removed.
Package perl-modules which provides libarchive-tar-perl is not configured yet.
(Reading database ... 238308 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing libarchive-tar-perl ...

After that, things were back in working order, as far as Perl was concerned.

Kind regards,
--Toni++

Bug#531520: Can't access my gnome desktop

2009-06-02 Thread Adnan Hodzic

What is the process list (ps auxwww) at the moment the login is locked
 up this way?

Please see the attachment file

To relate it with another bug, is compiz installed on your system?

Yes, 0.8.2-6

Also if it means anything, exact workaround procedure would be to remove:

1. gnome-session (2.26.1-5)
2. gnome-session-bin (2.26.1-5)
3. gnome-desktop-environment

Then, downgrade gnome-settings-deamon to 2.24.1-3, install gnome-session
2.22.3-3
and gnome-desktop-environment. After these steps you'll get your gnome working
once again.

Could you try to set aplay -N in advanced configuration editor, for

I've already tried that, no difference.

Actually, I'm wondering if the sound problem is just a symptom, not
the real problem.

Using artsplay just made it hang in a different way, without any zombie.

Right, since it depends on MAME (SDLMAME, XMAME - AFAIK only XMAME is in
Debian atm), whose license is restrictive, I had put it in Section:
non-free/games (debian/control). Was that the right thing (I must say I
still have trouble with some Debian terms) or is there something else to do?

Oh, and there's some licensing issues to check on some source files with
upstream, so it will takea few weeks before it's uploaded to
mentors.debian.net anyway.

Bug#531559: apt: cannot upgrade, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks

2009-06-02 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.21
Severity: normal

I get the following error:

# apt-get dist-upgrade -s
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Failed
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  gnome-session-bin: Conflicts: gnome-session ( 2.26.1-5) but 2.22.3-3 is to
be installed
  gnome-settings-daemon: Breaks: gnome-session ( 2.24) but 2.22.3-3 is to be
installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

It seems to be the same bug as #194224 (that was closed and archived
due to lack of information, but not fixed).

Bug#459924: Found the way to reproduce

2009-06-02 Thread Christoph Egger
Hi!

After being bitten by this bug I have now found the exact way to
reproduce it (for me). If the cursor is located on the tab-bar (which
is quite normal if you just switched the urxvt tab) you can't produce
some characters like ~ and `. If you move the cursor down into the
«normal» area these character can be produced again.

Regards

Christoph

Bug#531562: Please make it more obvious when fonts are substituted

2009-06-02 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:3.1.0-4
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I find it misleading that I don't get informed whenever a font is
substituted e.g. in a Writer document. Don't get me wrong, I believe
font substitution is a valuable feature and I have it enabled
knowingly, but sometimes it leads to unexpected behaviour.

For example, there is a document available on [1] that aims to compare
the metrics of some freely available fonts with the ones from Times
New Roman and Arial. If I have neither of these fonts installed on my
system but only e.g. ttf-dejavu, then *all* fonts in this document
will look the same on my computer since they all get substituted with
the dejavu fonts. So all available text in this document will look the
same, because it is rendered in the same font. However, when I
highlight some text, the font chooser box still tells me that the
current text is written in e.g. Times New Roman. This isn't wrong
either, since the text is formatted in TNR, but it doesn't tell me
that what I see is actually not TNR, but dejavu-serif.

So what I'd like to see is some visible hint that tells me font A has
been substituted by font B on my system, because font A could not be
found.

Thanks,
Fabian

PS: I assigned this bug to the openoffice.org meta-package, because I
think all parts of OOo that support font substitution are affected.

Bug#531556: etch-lenny: conflicting libarchive-tar-perl was not automatically removed

managing scripts (debsums etc.pp.) broke, and nothing moved. I was able to
manuall delete the offending package using dpkg, and get things going again,
but I don't know if that's within reach of the end user because, at
that point, the system was mostly non-functional because about half of
all my packages were not correctly installed.

The version of libarchive-tar-perl you had installed is not in etch,
yet. An upgrade from plain etch would have worked.

Reassigning to perl to hopefully get an updated version in lenny when
the new libarchive-tar-perl gets into etch.

Cheers,

Bug#517449: How, guys, do you couple with this bug?

2009-06-02 Thread Hai Zaar
Since the issue is still open and keeps annoying, I'm asking you guys,
how do you couple with this bug? Have you just moved to 2.6.29 from
backports?

Bug#523423: Rejecting Bug

2009-06-02 Thread Chow Loong Jin
tags 523423 + wontfix
thanks

Hi,

I'm rejecting this bug because mirage and lyrics are not official
plugins of Banshee, and I don't want to increase Banshee's dependency
chain. IIRC, Recommends means that the packages would be installed by
default. In the case of Mirage, having it enabled increases Banshee's
CPU usage a lot during the initial import, and I'm not sure that
everybody uses Mirage enough to be able to overlook that.

This crash happens without any human intervention (no click on button and ekiga
runing only in systray).

Split this bug if you consider such better

This is another bug, a bug I am searching for! Please start ekiga with:
$ gdb -d 4 21 | tee gdb.out
in order to capture also the -d 4 debug output we need, and repost it!

Bug#531564: antlr3: -depend generates broken dependencies

2009-06-02 Thread Julien BLACHE
Package: antlr3
Version: 3.0.1+dfsg-4
Severity: important

Hi,

antlr3 generates broken dependencies, compare and contrast:

% antlr3 -depend Foo.g
ANTLR Parser Generator Version 3.0.1 (August 13, 2007) 1989-2007
FooParser.c : Foo.g
Foo.tokens : Foo.g
.h : Foo.g
FooLexer.c : Foo.g
FooLexer.h : Foo.g

% java -jar ~/antlr-3.1.3.jar -depend Foo.g
FooParser.c : Foo.g
./Foo.tokens : Foo.g
FooParser.h : Foo.g
FooLexer.c : Foo.g
FooLexer.h : Foo.g

This is obviously downright unusable in Makefiles and renders antlr3 in Debian
useless in this use case.

Please update antlr3; #511470 has been open for 142 days already and there
hasn't even been a reply from one of the maintainers.

Thanks,

JB.

Bug#531388: Fails to start a valid gnome session after upgrade

2009-06-02 Thread Andrea De Iacovo

What if you comment both the OPT3 line and the LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT
line? Does it solve the performance issue for you?

Slightly better this way. Almost as smooth as before the upgrade.

Regards.
