Bug#527123: reproduced, points at libgnomeprint or libcups, workaround valgrind
G'day, This is a fascinating bug. I'm able to reproduce it. Please find attached gdb.txt as requested by Patrik, which demonstrates that the problem occurs while trying to free(3) some heap, in either libcups or libgnomeprint. Please also find attached valgrind.txt, which demonstrates that the failure is caused by a free of a heap pointer that is not valid. The use of valgrind is also a workaround to the problem, allowing printing to complete without Aborted. It goes much slower, but at least it works. The next thing I shall try is to find out where in libgnomeprint or libcups the segmentation fault is happening. Ideas on how to do that are welcome. It seems that the reproducibility of the problem may depend on the CUPS configuration. -- James Cameronmailto:qu...@us.netrek.org http://quozl.netrek.org/ Starting program: /tmp/abiword-2.6.8-install/bin/abiword [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread 0xb7f90760 (LWP 404)] [New Thread 0xb751ab90 (LWP 412)] Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. packages.qa.debian.org pointed me to http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=fribidi I'm now looking into it. One thing to note: that version of fribidi removes fribidi-config. Which means fixing all the dependent packages. The wrost part is that some of them will actually not break but silently build without fribidi support. -- Tzafrir Cohen | tzaf...@jabber.org | VIM is http://tzafrir.org.il || a Mutt's tzaf...@cohens.org.il || best ICQ# 16849754 || friend -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#533439: Please consider this a regression
On Fri, Jul 03, 2009 at 07:43:24PM -0400, Kumar Appaiah wrote: Dear Mutt maintainers, I am perplexed and quite put off by the new new mail behaviour. In short, when I leave a message marked new in an mbox file and change folders, it should NOT show the mbox file in the changed mbox list (unless there is a fresh, new message written to it). Granted, that the Mutt developers have made a decision to correct what they consider a bug; I respect that and have no right to oppose it. But I wish to request the Debian maintainers to discuss about considering this a regression. Many of us users have found this behaviour surprising, and, while, one could argue that we have just got used to the bug, long time users would not want to be taken by surprise. So, please do, at least, consider adding an option to restore the old behaviour. Hi Kumar, thanks for your report, we already know that some users are quite annoyed by the new behaviors and the mutt maintainers are already active in trying to find a new approach to consistently tackle this problem along with the mail detection, Rocco Rutte is the person who is working on this; they discussed this in their mailing list and there is a wiki page about this (you can find the URL in the previous correspondences of this bug). A definitive fix for this will come with version 1.6, which is only two releases away from the current release: we expect 1.5.21 and 1.6; restoring the old behavior would mean to revert some chunks of code and various commits; since the mutt maintainers are activetely trying to fix this we would rather wait. Obviously the final decision is up to Christoph Berg, who is the current maintainer of mutt (I'm co-maintaining it), so if he wants to revert these commits I will start to do so from next Monday, when I will be back from holidays :-) Cheers Antonio -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#508834: grub-pc: grub_init_all() appears to be the culprit
Package: grub-pc Version: 1.96+20090702-1 Severity: normal I also find grub-probe rather slow, but I'm talking more like 3 or 4 seconds not 10 minutes. I agree that the initial reporter may have other problems that compound the issue, but the issue is nevertheless still real. An additional disturbing observation is that while grub-probe is busy consuming 100% cpu on one core, it appears to cause Xorg to consume up to 100% cpu on my second core! This is reported by top, gkrellm and htop. I also find that my mouse pointer tends to lag during this time. After some poking around in the source, I find that most of the time (and most of the BLKFLSBUF calls) occur at util/grub-probe.c:368 grub_init_all () I traced the grub_init_all funciton to grub_probe_init.c which does nothing but call a bunch of functions to initialize the various modules for all supported filesystems. Unfortunately, my detective work was stopped at this point because none of these functions appear to exist anywhere. Instead it looks like they are somehow defined in a round-about way through .lst files which I don't understand at all. The efficiency of grub-probe aside, I believe the real problem is the number of times that it is called during the update-grub process. In chronological order: /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig:117-127 5 calls to grub-probe /etc/grub.d/00_header:75 1 call to grub-probe /etc/grub.d/00_header:75 prepare_grub_to_access_device /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib: 138-146 3 calls to grub-probe /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme: 42 prepare_grub_to_access_device /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib: 138-146 3 calls to grub-probe /etc/grub.d/10_linux:40 1 call to upate-grub for every kernel! /etc/grub.d/10_linux:140 linux_entry /etc/grub.d/10_linux: 96 prepare_grub_to_access_device /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib: 138-146 3 calls to grub-probe again for every kernel if GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_RECOVERY is not set! /etc/grub.d/10_linux:140 linux_entry /etc/grub.d/10_linux: 96 prepare_grub_to_access_device /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib: 138-146 3 calls to grub-probe /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober: 50 1 call to grub-probe for every other os! /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober: 55,81,100 prepare_grub_to_access_device /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib: 138-146 3 calls to grub-probe Which is 23 calls in total meaning that update-grub takes over a minute in the highly optimistic case that you have only one kernel and one other os. For me who typicaly has 3 or 4 kernels this starts to push 2 minutes. Is it really necessary to be calling it this may times. Could it not just be called once or twice at the beginning and have the resulting query information reused? Bug#535611: please add a way to force the creation of __init__.py
On Sat, Jul 04, 2009 at 11:02:32AM +0200, Josselin Mouette wrote: My primary recommendation would be to move those data files to a directory in /usr/share and patch the code to use this place, instead of adding another hack on top of such a bad idea. The problem is that while they are data files, they really are used at runtime as python modules generated dynamically. So they must belong to some parent module, which upstream grants to exist via that (empty) __init__.py My current (horrible) work around is to touch a dummy and empty .py file in the appropriate dir before the build start. Please get me away from such hack :) Well, it looks like a hack, but I was going to recommend you to do this. Any other solution would look the same in the end, and it is really harmless. JFTR, here is a nicer solution we agreed upon on #debian-python: add a comment to the incriminated __init__.py file(s): that way they do not get removed by pysupport. In the interim, that is a cleaner work-around. Thanks, Cheers. -- Stefano Zacchiroli -o- PhD in Computer Science \ PostDoc @ Univ. Bug#468325: ITP - Urban Terror -- Quake 3 based first person shooter
Hi, The legal issue was resolved to the best of my knowledge, the blocker now is filesize of the urbanterror-data package, I believe there were plans to create a data.debian.org repository for large packages of static, arch-independent data, but I'm not sure if it was implemented yet. When its implmented the package can probably be uploaded after a few minor tweaks, as I haven't touched it for a long time now and there may be some issues in the current one (bashism, etc) Regards, Jack Coulter On Fri, Jul 03, 2009 at 05:35:51PM +0200, helix84 wrote: Hello, I see there has been no progress on the legal front. Bug#535611: please add a way to force the creation of __init__.py
Le vendredi 03 juillet 2009 à 18:36 +0200, Stefano Zacchiroli a écrit : To ensure tw.forms.templates is a valid module, upstream ships a __init__.py file in that dir. But when that dir gets handled by update-python-modules, the __init__.py file is removed, on the assumption that not containing any *.py (or *.so) files, that dir should not be a module. While that is probably a sane default behaviour (to work around many dump upstreams which put __init__.py everywhere), in this particular case I need a way to tell update-python-modules that that dir should really be mapped to the module namespace. With the current implementation, I did not find the way to do that, hence I'm filing a wishlist request about it Gosh, those Python developers really invent new dirty tricks every day. My primary recommendation would be to move those data files to a directory in /usr/share and patch the code to use this place, instead of adding another hack on top of such a bad idea. My current (horrible) work around is to touch a dummy and empty .py file in the appropriate dir before the build start. Please get me away from such hack :) Well, it looks like a hack, but I was going to recommend you to do this. Any other solution would look the same in the end, and it is really harmless. -- .''`. Bug#535569: Further update-gconf-defaults improvements.
Le vendredi 03 juillet 2009 à 20:42 +1000, Trent W. Buck a écrit : Hi Josselin, Please find attached two further patches I have written for update-gconf-defaults. I have the feeling that you want to somehow replace GConf by something else being configured manually using these files. There is no benefit in doing it this way, and I’m not going to encourage an underhanded fork of GConf. The first simply allows you to write comment lines like # Epiphany in the input files. This just strikes me as an obvious thing, because it allows you to safely include explanatory comments in the pref files. This looks like an acceptable ideas, comments are always better. The second makes the script ignore files that do not match the patterns described by run-parts(1), so for example anything with a dot in it will be ignored. This is important for me as I have things like inc.mk in the my private source directory. It would also be useful if you wanted to store the source files in ~/.gconf itself! By default, packages with a dot in their name will ship a file with a dot in its name. So in this state the patch is not acceptable. -- .''`. Bug#524649: amarok: Can't properly disconnect iPod

On the other hand, most people don't seem to be having a problem. When I hit disconnect for a USB mounted iPod nano 3G (green) amarok indicates the device is disconnected. Bug#535681: libffado: Support for more arches
Source: libffado Version: 2.0~rc1+svn1539-1 Severity: important Hi, It seems you have restricted the arch list to i386, amd64 and powerpc. Why? I see no reason why this package should be restricted to some arches. Other arches support firewire too. Is there for instance a reason not to enable kfreebsd-i386 and kfreebsd-amd64? Looking at the SConstruct script, it seems to be basing optimizations based on /proc/cpuinfo. Please note that we still support i486 on the i386 port, and it should run on that. Please do not add options to produce different output than the default unless you build it several times and pick up the right one at run time. Basing it on the CPU you're currently running is _always_ wrong. It also seems to try and detect if it needs -fPIC or not, and only enable it on amd64. Unless you have a very good reason not always enable it, this should be enabled. (see Policy 10.2). Bug#535679: gnome-power-manager: does not OBEY USER by policy
Package: gnome-power-manager Version: 2.24.4-2 Severity: important gnome-power-manager does not trust or obey me, the computer user. It says it blocks my actions by policy. How to reproduce: 1. Start playing a song in rhythmbox (0.12.1-1) 2 alt. Press the power button (aliased to Suspend in gnome-power-manager) 2 alt. Select Shut Down - then Suspend from the GNOME menu 2 alt. Close the laptop lid What happens: Gnome-power-manager tells me my music player has stopped this action by policy. If my laptop lid is closed, I don't see this warning. I still hear the music though. What should happen: The computer should obey my wishes. Suspend. Stop playing music if it has to. What if a quiet part of some extra track is playing? I close the lid? The computer is not going to sleep and I'm not going to notice! Does the same thing happen when playing some movie in the background with muted sound? I don't want my computer to die from overheating when closed. Bug#494481: [Buildd-tools-devel] Bug#494481: schroot: Ordering of lvm-snapshot-options
tags 494481 + fixed-upstream pending thanks On Sat, Aug 09, 2008 at 04:46:44PM -0400, Timothy G Abbott wrote: The lvcreate command requires that the PhysicalVolumePath option be specified after the original logical volume path (primarily, I think, because it's not a getopt option). Cursory testing (and normal getopt behavior) suggests that any of the other options can be specified in any order. In /etc/schroot/setup.d/05lvm, the lvcreate command for snapshots is specified as lvcreate $VERBOSE $CHROOT_LVM_SNAPSHOT_OPTIONS --snapshot \ --name $CHROOT_LVM_SNAPSHOT_NAME $CHROOT_DEVICE which places the lvm-snapshot-options from the chroot configuration before the chroot device, and thus prevents specifying a physical volume path. I think just changing it (and the non-verbose case) to lvcreate $VERBOSE --snapshot --name $CHROOT_LVM_SNAPSHOT_NAME \ $CHROOT_DEVICE $CHROOT_LVM_SNAPSHOT_OPTIONS would allow one to do everything one can do now, with the added benefit of being able to specify which physical volume the snapshot should be taken from. This is a useful feature because LVM's write performance is supposedly substantially better if the snapshot is on a different physical volume than the original (as it involves fewer disk seeks). I've made the above change in git, and it will hopefully make it into a release soon. Sorry for the delay in getting around to this one--my PhD is severely limiting my available time, and it got lost. Please note that I committed this onto the schroot master branch, and following the filesystem union merge this is slightly broken (sessions are not correctly written out into /var/lib/schroot/session--there's some missing options). As a result, I can't recommend using the git repo until it's fixed, which should hopefully be soon. Picking up the single change is of course possible. Regards, Roger -- .''`. Bug#519792: [Patch 4/8] libvdpau renaming and cleanup
Hi, this patch updates the nvidia-libvdpau cleanup changes I suggested previously to the current evolution (emul/ia32-linux transition, ia32-libs changes) and my previous patches of this series. The shlibs file has been dropped, it was identical to the generated one. I also incorporate the renaming of nvidia-libvdpau[-ia32] to nvidia-libvdpau1[-ia32] (#534536). There are currently neither transitional packages nor Provides: nvidia-libvdpau etc. in the renamed packages. If they are needed, drop me a note and I can easily add them. The only user of these packages is probably Christian with mplayer-dmo which would have to be rebuilt. The patch for debian/control is not included, please regenerate it via debian/rules clean. Andreas Beckmann wrote: the new libvdpau packages are missing some symbolic links (they seem to be created by ldconfig, but should be included in the package anyway): nvidia-libvdpau: /usr/lib/libvdpau_nvidia.so - libvdpau_nvidia.so.185.18.14 /usr/lib/libvdpau_trace.so - libvdpau_trace.so.185.18.14 (the wrapper library dlopens libvdpau_*.so) nvidia-libvdpau-ia32: similarily The libvdpau.so symlink should go to the -dev package (and point to libvdpau.so.1). Bug#497077: [Patch 6/8] split libcuda1* packages from nvidia-glx* packages
tags 497077 + patch thanks Hi, here I propose a patch for the separation of libcuda1 from the nvidia-glx packages I suggested some time ago. This is useful for CUDA development and usage on headless systems (e.g. using Tesla cards) that don't have or need X, GLX, ... As names I choose libcuda1, libcuda1-ia32, libcuda-dev. I don't think we need a vendor prefix nvidia- because I don't expect anyone else to provide alternative implementations. There are no dependencies from nvidia-glx on libcuda1 as it was also done this way when nvidia-libvdpau was separated. The libcuda.so symlink needs to go directly into the libcuda1 package, not a -dev package because libcudart.so.1 (from nvidia-cuda-toolkit, not packaged yet, but I plan to do an ITP soon) does dlopen(libcuda.so). The patch contains also appropriate lintian-overrides and symbols files for the new packages. After applying the patch, debian/control has to be regenerated via debian/rules clean. The patch series 1/8 to 6/8 compiles successfully in pbuilder environments sid/amd64, sid/i386, squeeze/amd64, lenny/amd64, lenny/i386 Andreas Index: debian/nvidia-glx-ia32.shlibs === --- debian/nvidia-glx-ia32.shlibs (.../anbe-45-0-vdpau-extras) (revision 836) +++ debian/nvidia-glx-ia32.shlibs (.../anbe-50-0-cuda-separate) (revision 836) @@ -1,4 +1,3 @@ libGL 1 ia32-libs ( 15) | ia32-libgl1-mesa-glx libGLcore 1 nvidia-glx-ia32 libnvidia-tls 1 nvidia-glx-ia32 -libcuda 1 nvidia-glx-ia32 Index: debian/nvidia-glx-ia32.links.in === --- debian/nvidia-glx-ia32.links.in (.../anbe-45-0-vdpau-extras) (revision 836) +++ debian/nvidia-glx-ia32.links.in (.../anbe-50-0-cuda-separate) (revision 836) @@ -3,4 +3,3 @@ usr/lib32/libGLcore.so.#VERSION# usr/lib32/libGLcore.so.1 usr/lib32/libnvidia-tls.so.#VERSION# usr/lib32/libnvidia-tls.so.1 usr/lib32/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.#VERSION# usr/lib32/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.1 -usr/lib32/libcuda.so.#VERSION# usr/lib32/libcuda.so Index: debian/control.in === --- debian/control.in (.../anbe-45-0-vdpau-extras) (revision 836) +++ debian/control.in (.../anbe-50-0-cuda-separate) (revision 836) @@ -118,3 +118,63 @@ information. . +Package: libcuda1 +Section: non-free/libs +Architecture: i386 amd64 +Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends} +Recommends: nvidia-kernel-#VERSION# +Suggests: nvidia-kernel-source (= #VERSION#) +Replaces: nvidia-glx ( 185.18.14-2), nvidia-glx-dev ( 185.18.14-2) +Description: NVIDIA CUDA runtime library + The Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) enables NVIDIA + graphics processing units (GPUs) to be used for massively parallel + general purpose computation. + . + This package contains the driver specific runtime library. + . + Supported NVIDIA devices include GPUs starting from GeForce 8 and Quadro FX + series, as well as the Tesla computing processors. + . + Please see the nvidia-kernel-source package for building the kernel module + required by this package. Bug#535691: RFH: munin packaging help
package: wnpp x-debbugs-cc: munin-deb-ma...@linpro.no, munin-us...@lists.sourceforge.net Hi, the munin package could need some more love: - currently there are 35 open bugs, some with patches, some need to go upstream, etc. - and there is a constant flow of new bugs coming, see see http://people.debian.org/~glandium/bts/m/munin.png - the Debian package has 55 patches applied. Few are Debian specific, many have been applied upstream in the 1.3 branch, but some not. Unfortunatly, we dont have an overview about which patch is in which category... - munin 1.3 is about to from alpha to beta status and 1.4 might even be released in time for squeeze. It would be awesome to upload 1.3 to experimental soon, to get more testing. - while uploaders lists five people, most work in the last year has been done by two and most work in the last half year has been done by one person... If you are interested in helping out, no matter whether you are a DD, DM or not, please contact me or just start working: - BTS cleanup - patch renaming (1xx_* = debian-specific, 2xx_* = applied in 1.3, etc) - packaging 1.3 Thanks, Holger signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
Bug#535693: vino: Add an option to disable notifications on connect
Package: vino Version: 2.24.1-3.1 Severity: wishlist While I don't doubt that the notifications that pop up when a remote user connects is a useful feature, it can be annoying at times. For example, when I want to control my mythtv machine from another computer, I'd rather not have the notification pop up over the video I'm watching. It looks like I'm not the only one who wants this feature either: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=690885 I have attached a patch which adds a new option to the remote desktop settings which allows the notifications to be disabled. capplet/vino-preferences.c | 64 - capplet/vino-preferences.glade | 13 server/vino-prefs.c| 41 +- server/vino-server.c | 44 server/vino-server.h |3 + server/vino-server.schemas.in | 16 ++ server/vino-status-icon.c |2 - 7 files changed, 180 insertions(+), 3 deletions(-) -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_GB.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages vino depends on: ii gconf2 2.26.2-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libavahi-client3 0.6.25-1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.25-1 Avahi common library ii libavahi-glib1 0.6.25-1 Avahi glib integration library ii libc6 2.9-12GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdbus-1-31.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.80-4simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgconf2-42.26.2-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt111.4.4-2 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-01:2.6.4-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.1-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome2-02.26.0-1 The GNOME library - runtime files ii libgnomeui-0 2.24.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnutls262.6.6-1 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgtk2.0-02.16.1-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libnotify1 [libnotify1 0.4.5-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii libunique-1.0-01.0.8-1 Library for writing single instanc ii libx11-6 2:1.2.1-1 X11 client-side library ii libxdamage11:1.1.1-4 X11 damaged region extension libra ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxtst6 2:1.0.3-1 X11 Testing -- Resource extension ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-13 compression library - runtime Versions of packages vino recommends: ii gvfs 1.2.2-2userspace virtual filesystem - ser Versions of packages vino suggests: ii gnome-user-guide [gnome2-user 2.24.2-2 GNOME user's guide ii vinagre 2.24.2-3 VNC client for the GNOME Desktop -- no debconf information diff -burN tmp/vino-2.24.1/capplet/vino-preferences.c vino-2.24.1/capplet/vino-preferences.c --- tmp/vino-2.24.1/capplet/vino-preferences.c 2008-10-08 20:58:36.0 +0100 +++ vino-2.24.1/capplet/vino-preferences.c 2009-07-04 12:29:54.0 +0100 @@ -47,6 +47,7 @@ #define VINO_PREFS_DIR/desktop/gnome/remote_access #define VINO_PREFS_ENABLEDVINO_PREFS_DIR /enabled #define VINO_PREFS_PROMPT_ENABLED VINO_PREFS_DIR /prompt_enabled +#define VINO_PREFS_NOTIFICATION_ENABLED VINO_PREFS_DIR /notification_enabled #define VINO_PREFS_VIEW_ONLY VINO_PREFS_DIR /view_only #define VINO_PREFS_AUTHENTICATION_METHODS VINO_PREFS_DIR /authentication_methods #define VINO_PREFS_VNC_PASSWORD VINO_PREFS_DIR /vnc_password @@ -59,7 +60,7 @@ #define VINO_PREFS_LOCK_SCREENVINO_PREFS_DIR /lock_screen_on_disconnect #define VINO_PREFS_DISABLE_BACKGROUND VINO_PREFS_DIR /disable_background -#define N_LISTENERS 13 +#define N_LISTENERS 14 #define VINO_DBUS_BUS_NAME org.gnome.Vino #define VINO_DBUS_INTERFACE org.gnome.VinoScreen @@ -75,6 +76,7 @@ GtkWidget *url_label; GtkWidget *allowed_toggle; GtkWidget *prompt_enabled_toggle; + GtkWidget *notification_enabled_toggle; GtkWidget *view_only_toggle; GtkWidget *password_toggle; GtkWidget *password_box; @@ -175,6 +177,7 @@ gboolean

Bug#533439: Please consider this a regression
On Sat, Jul 04, 2009 at 08:35:09AM +, Antonio Radici wrote: Hi Kumar, thanks for your report, we already know that some users are quite annoyed by the new behaviors and the mutt maintainers are already active in trying to find a new approach to consistently tackle this problem along with the mail detection, Rocco Rutte is the person who is working on this; they discussed this in their mailing list and there is a wiki page about this (you can find the URL in the previous correspondences of this bug). Thanks. I reread that article, and would like to thank the developers for taking into consideration our request. A definitive fix for this will come with version 1.6, which is only two releases away from the current release: we expect 1.5.21 and 1.6; restoring the old behavior would mean to revert some chunks of code and various commits; since the mutt maintainers are activetely trying to fix this we would rather wait. Sure. Thanks for letting us know. Obviously the final decision is up to Christoph Berg, who is the current maintainer of mutt (I'm co-maintaining it), so if he wants to revert these commits I will start to do so from next Monday, when I will be back from holidays :-) Enjoy yourself, and thanks again. Bug#535696: gnu-efi: [PATCH] add support for kfreebsd-amd64
Package: gnu-efi Version: 3.0e-3 Severity: wishlist Hi Nigel, Attached is a patch to add support for kfreebsd-amd64 to the gnu-efi package, and FreeBSD x86_64 support to upstream. FreeBSD i386 doesn't need any changes. Upstream changes: - add gnuefi/elf_x86_64_fbsd_efi.lds, this is the x86_64 linker script with the OUTPUT_FORMAT set to elf-x86-64-freebsd - patch Makefiles to use and install this linker script on anything that's FreeBSD on amd64 - works for both FreeBSD and kFreeBSD Debian changes: - debian/control: + add kfreebsd-amd64 as a supported architecture + build-dep gcc-multilib on kfreebsd-amd64 too + bump Standards-Version to 3.8.2 - debian/rules: + add support for kfreebsd amd64 i386 by modifying the i386 amd64 conditional parts (use findstring) + add support for kfreebsd amd64, that is, install the proper linker script + cleanup: do not install ia64 headers on i386/amd64, do not install i386/amd64 headers on ia64 Unfortunately, kfreebsd-i386 doesn't have a bi-arch gcc, so it can't be enabled just yet. I hope we'll get a bi-arch compiler there soon, too. I've run the test apps and they work. Speaking of testing, TianoCore have EFI firmwares for qemu now, both ia32 and x64. They call that OVMF, it's part of the edkII project. You might want to check that out, it's great to run the test apps =) The EFI ROMs come with the EFI shell integrated, so you only need a small disk image to copy the test apps to. The patch contains an debian/changelog entry, too. You may want to make that gnu-efi 3.0i upstream and I'd be happy to sponsor the 3.0i-1 upload :) Thanks, JB. -- Julien BLACHE jbla...@debian.org | Debian, because code matters more Debian GNU/Linux Developer| http://www.debian.org Public key available on http://www.jblache.org - KeyID: F5D6 5169 GPG Fingerprint : 935A 79F1 C8B3 3521 FD62 7CC7 CD61 4FD7 F5D6 5169 diff -ruN orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/Make.defaults gnu-efi-3.0e/Make.defaults --- orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/Make.defaults 2009-07-04 14:39:53.0 +0200 +++ gnu-efi-3.0e/Make.defaults 2009-07-04 14:25:48.0 +0200 @@ -31,6 +31,7 @@ HOSTARCH = $(shell uname -m | sed s,i[3456789]86,ia32,) ARCH := $(shell uname -m | sed s,i[3456789]86,ia32,) +OS = $(shell uname -s) INCDIR = -I$(SRCDIR) -I$(TOPDIR)/inc -I$(TOPDIR)/inc/$(ARCH) -I$(TOPDIR)/inc/protocol CPPFLAGS = -DCONFIG_$(ARCH) CFLAGS = $(ARCH3264) -O2 -fpic -Wall -fshort-wchar -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-merge-constants diff -ruN orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/apps/Makefile gnu-efi-3.0e/apps/Makefile --- orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/apps/Makefile 2009-07-04 14:39:53.0 +0200 +++ gnu-efi-3.0e/apps/Makefile 2009-07-04 14:26:09.0 +0200 @@ -33,7 +33,14 @@ LINUX_HEADERS = /usr/src/sys/build CPPFLAGS += -D__KERNEL__ -I$(LINUX_HEADERS)/include CRTOBJS = ../gnuefi/crt0-efi-$(ARCH).o + LDSCRIPT = $(TOPDIR)/gnuefi/elf_$(ARCH)_efi.lds +ifeq ($(ARCH),x86_64) + ifneq (,$(findstring FreeBSD,$(OS))) +LDSCRIPT = $(TOPDIR)/gnuefi/elf_$(ARCH)_fbsd_efi.lds + endif +endif + LDFLAGS += -T $(LDSCRIPT) -shared -Bsymbolic -L../lib -L../gnuefi $(CRTOBJS) LOADLIBES = -lefi -lgnuefi $(shell $(CC) $(ARCH3264) -print-libgcc-file-name) FORMAT = efi-app-$(ARCH) diff -ruN orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/changelog gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/changelog --- orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/changelog 2009-07-04 14:39:53.0 +0200 +++ gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/changelog 2009-07-04 14:47:43.0 +0200 @@ -1,3 +1,16 @@ +gnu-efi (3.0e-4) unstable; urgency=low + + * debian/control: ++ Make kfreebsd-amd64 a supported architecture. ++ Build-depend on gcc-multilib on kfreebsd-amd64 too. + * debian/rules: ++ Add support for both kfreebsd-{i386,amd64}. ++ Install FreeBSD x86_64 linker script on kfreebsd-amd64. ++ Do not install ia64-specific headers on i386/amd64, do not install + i386/amd64-specific headers on ia64. + + -- Julien Blache jbla...@debian.org Sat, 04 Jul 2009 14:45:03 +0200 + gnu-efi (3.0e-3) unstable; urgency=low * Non-maintainer upload with maintainer's consent. diff -ruN orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/control gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/control --- orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/control 2009-07-04 14:39:53.0 +0200 +++ gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/control 2009-07-04 14:29:50.0 +0200 @@ -3,11 +3,11 @@ Priority: optional Maintainer: Nigel Croxon nigel.cro...@hp.com Uploaders: Bdale Garbee bd...@gag.com -Build-Depends: debhelper ( 5), binutils (= 2.17.50.0.14), gcc-multilib [i386 amd64] -Standards-Version: 3.8.1 +Build-Depends: debhelper ( 5), binutils (= 2.17.50.0.14), gcc-multilib [i386 amd64 kfreebsd-amd64] +Standards-Version: 3.8.2 Package: gnu-efi -Architecture: i386 ia64 amd64 +Architecture: i386 ia64 amd64 kfreebsd-amd64 Suggests: elilo Description: Library for developing EFI applications GNU toolchain for building applications that can run in the environment diff -ruN orig/gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/rules gnu-efi-3.0e/debian/rules ---
Bug#535695: std::ifstream uses a block size of 8191 bytes (not 8192)
Package: libstdc++6-4.3-dev Version: 4.3.3-13 The program below reads the input file in blocks of 8191 bytes (as shown by strace). There's probably a mistake somewhere because it should use 8192 byte blocks. (8191 byte blocks tend to maximize misalignment.) Recompiling with g++-4.4 doesn't change this. Using the in.rdbuf()-sgetc() and friends exhibits the same behavior, too. #include iostream #include fstream static int usage(const char* progname); int main(int argc, const char** argv) { if (argc != 2) { return usage(argv[0]); } const char* filename = argv[1]; std::ifstream in(filename); std::string l; while (in) { std::getline(in, l); } if (in.eof()) { return 0; } else { std::cerr error: reading from: filename std::endl; return 1; } } static int usage(const char* progname) { std::cerr usage: progname FILE\n; return 1; } -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#535546: please reopen
Please reopen. Reason: I do not see that any other package is involved. AFAICS /dev/net/tun is created by /lib/udev/create_static_nodes, reading a list of /dev entries from /etc/udev/links.conf. It ignores the regular udev rules completely. This is surely not what one would expect. If there is no fix for this bug, then I would recommend to not mention /dev/net/tun and the others in the udev rules at all. Instead some comment or README should say that /dev/net/tun is not triggered by a kernel event, but created statically without taking the udev rules into account. Such a note could have saved me a lot of time. But maybe I was too blind to see? Many thanx Harri signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Instead of providing a search prompt sup crashes with the error ruby: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/x86_64-linux/ncurses_bin.so: undefined symbol: funcall Manualy downgrading libncurses-ruby1.8 to version 1.1-3 fixes the problem.
