Bug#536325: Please move dead lists to separate category on http://lists.debian.org/ pages
Package: lists.debian.org Severity: wishlist Each of the pages on http://lists.debian.org/ (Users, Developers, and so on) show lists in that category, some of which say dead list next to them. Wading through those lists makes it harder to see the active lists at a glance, particularly under the developers category which has a fairly high number of dead lists. I think it would help to move all the dead lists to a single category parallel to users, developers, etc. This would ensure that all of the more useful categories show exclusively active lists. - Josh Triplett -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. When upgrading from etch to lenny, but also when upgrading the tomcat version as they get released by debian. all those settings are overwritten (due to the sym-linking, quite some directories stay the same). One improvement opportunity is certainly on the tomcat side as per https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=47495, but when upgrading with apt-get, debian also should offer to preserve the rights given or suggest an alternate approach how to run tomcat in eclipse on a developer workstation! -- System Informations: Debian Release: 5.0.2 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages tomcat5.5 depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii gij [java2-runtime-h 4:4.3.2-2 The GNU Java bytecode interpreter ii gij-4.1 [java2-runti 4.1.1-20The GNU Java bytecode interpreter ii gij-4.3 [java2-runti 4.3.2-2 The GNU Java bytecode interpreter ii java-gcj-compat [jav 1.0.78-2Java runtime environment using GIJ ii java-gcj-compat-head 1.0.78-2Java runtime environment using GIJ ii jsvc 1.0.2~svn20061127-9 wrapper to launch Java application ii libecj-java 3.3.0+0728-9Eclipse Java compiler (library) ii libtomcat5.5-java5.5.26-5Java Servlet engine -- core librar ii sun-java5-jre [java2 1.5.0-17-0.1Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment ( tomcat5.5 recommends no packages. Bug#536332: default gdm theme font size too large for login box
Package: gdm Version: 2.20.9-1 Severity: normal I constantly am annoyed by two problems with the font size used in the default Debian gdm theme (both stable and unstable): 1. The text entry box for username / password is not quite tall enough for the font used in it. Descenders (ie, the tail of j) are cut off at the bottom. [Almost all of the other reasons to know the bug number are part of #49228, which I'm getting closer and closer to actually fixing.] It could be solved by a webpage (and a SOAP-API for transparent reportbug support) where you can get a „reserved“ bugnumber (which would be one of the next numbers to be assigned, I guess). This number then has to be included in the bug submission, via a pseudo-header, e.g. Reserved-Bugnumber: 12345 This would require such a massive change to the way we allocate bugs (and other subtle changes to the codebase which assumes that bug number equates to filing order) that I can't imagine changing this. That said, if someone were to go ahead and write such a patch, I could imagine fixing it. Marking it wontfix just to indicate to myself that I'm not planning on fixing it, not that I won't consider accepting such a patch. Please, everybody, note that I have personnally no interest at all in all this and, to be honest, that I don't really care that much about all this stuff (probable over 50% of my own translations do not carry me as copyright holder). So, really, dealing with this will have to be done by someone else than me. If this is technically difficult then I don't mind if it is ommitted (but I cannot speak for Matthias), especially since copyright remains under German law even if it is not explicitly mentioned. The documentatation is Free Documentation. If said technical problems would have been told openly to me, no problem at all. Bug#536339: Newer versions than that in oldstable cannot build kernel anymore
Package: kernel-package Version: 12.017 Severity: grave This is a bug report for my unstable system which do not have a working mail setup at the moment. So I deleted all that information from my stable box. But it is also related to stable. For long time now I use make-kpkg now to build my kernels. But since several months the recent versions are not able to build kernels (at least recent kernels). The last version I have found to work is the version from oldstable (etch) so I've stick on it. But the problem gets worse as this old version cannot build kernels 2.6.28.*. Well, lets track the problem down. I just (today) made a log file (in the attachment) of a build run with 12.017 from unstable. I hope, that this package will get stable in future as I like to build the kernel in a clean way and to make it the debian way. Also I want to play with the latest kernels on my unstable machine as there is some features I need to test. Regards Klaus Ps. Ah yes, for the kernel in oldstable some need to add a small line to compile with 2.6 kernels: INSTALL_FW_PATH=$(INSTALL_MOD_PATH)/lib/firmware/$(version) \ after line 112. -- Klaus Ethgenhttp://www.ethgen.de/ pub 2048R/D1A4EDE5 2000-02-26 Klaus Ethgen kl...@ethgen.de Fingerprint: D7 67 71 C4 99 A6 D4 FE EA 40 30 57 3C 88 26 2B exec make kpkg_version=12.017 -f /usr/share/kernel-package/ruleset/minimal.mk debian DEBIAN_REVISION=tha.20 CONFIG_TARGET=menuconfig KPKG_SELECTED_MODULES=cdfs,madwifi,fglrx ROOT_CMD=fakeroot == making target debian/stamp/conf/minimal_debian [new prereqs: ]== This is kernel package version 12.017. test -d debian || mkdir debian test ! -e stamp-building || rm -f stamp-building install -p -m 755 /usr/share/kernel-package/rules debian/rules for file in ChangeLog Control Control.bin86 config templates.in rules; do \ cp -f /usr/share/kernel-package/$file ./debian/; \ done for dir in Config docs examples ruleset scripts pkg po; do \ cp -af /usr/share/kernel-package/$dir ./debian/; \ done test -f debian/control || sed -e 's/=V/2.6.28.5/g' \ -e 's/=D/tha.20/g' -e 's/=A/i386/g' \ -e 's/=SA//g' \ -e 's/=I//g'\ -e 's/=CV/2.6/g'\ -e 's/=M/Klaus Ethgen kl...@ethgen.de/g' \ -e 's/=ST/linux/g' -e 's/=B/i386/g'\ /usr/share/kernel-package/Control debian/control test -f debian/changelog || sed -e 's/=V/2.6.28.5/g' \ -e 's/=D/tha.20/g'-e 's/=A/i386/g' \ -e 's/=ST/linux/g' -e 's/=B/i386/g' \ -e 's/=M/Klaus Ethgen kl...@ethgen.de/g' \ /usr/share/kernel-package/changelog debian/changelog chmod 0644 debian/control debian/changelog test -d ./debian/stamp || mkdir debian/stamp make -f debian/rules debian/stamp/conf/kernel-conf make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.28.5' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:32: warning: overriding commands for target `debian/stamp/install/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/image.mk:34: warning: ignoring old commands for target `debian/stamp/install/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:95: warning: overriding commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/image.mk:220: warning: ignoring old commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:95: warning: overriding commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:32: warning: ignoring old commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:111: warning: overriding commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/pre-linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/image.mk:325: warning: ignoring old commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/pre-linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:111: warning: overriding commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:95: warning: ignoring old commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/local.mk:83: *** target file `-dbg' has both : and :: entries. Bug#527083: Ubuntu's 287215 ?
I'm seeing this one: when I startx with my USB keyboard plugged in, everything is fine and both the PS2 keyboard and the USB one honor my xmodmpa settings; after I unplug and replug the USB keyboard, it reverts to using a vanilla mapping, and my xmodmpa settings then only work on the PS2 keyboard. Ok, sorry for my overly quick bug report, I hadn't checked whether nbd-server was actually running and assumed it didn't because of the error/warning message. Still, I think that there's something to be improved here: nbd-server gives this warning without any other message that it has started. This message looks pretty serious, especially since the man-page explicitly states that a non-existent or empty config file can be specified without problem. I'd suggest to make it clear in the warning message that nbd-server is still started and/or update the documentation about this message. Or maybe add a default configuration file which nbd-server can parse and which removes this warning message? Bug#536343: tex-common: docbase section for tex-on-debian
Package: tex-common Version: 1.20 Severity: normal tex-common provides two doc-base entries, one for debian-tex-policy and one for tex-on-debian. Both register into the Debian section in the docs. debian-tex-policy explains how to organise other TeX packages for Debian, so of course Debian is the correct section for that. tex-on-debian, on the other hand, is intended for users who want to extend their TeX system locally. There is some TeX user documentation for other packages found in Section: Tex and some in Section: Text. I'd like to suggest that ordinary users may not think to check the Debian section for TeX user docs, and so I might suggest registering the tex-on-debian in either the Tex or Text section. Bug#532293: Clarification...
There have been several updates of the open-vm-source package in Sid since this bug was filed, as well as a new kernel 2.6.30 and a new source package at SourceForge. I just want to confirm that the current open-vm-source package in Sid (2009-06-18) still does not build with m-a, and that the work-around posted above does also apply to all these updates. To clarify for those unfamiliar with the syntax of makefiles: 1. Run m-a a-i h...@debianvm:~$ lsmod |grep vm vmsync 4704 0 vmmemctl8824 0 vmhgfs 50408 0 vmci 30016 0 hpen-vm (as root) -- this still fails, but leaves an unpacked source in the /usr/src/modules/open-vm/ directory. 2. Download the latest stable tar-ball open-vm-tools-2009.06.18-172495.tar.gz from http://sourceforge.net/projects/open-vm-tools/files/ and unpack it, e.g. in /home/user/Downloads. 3. As root, edit /usr/src/modules/open-vm/Makefile and add at the beginning of each of the lines under 'build' OVT_SOURCE_DIR=/home/user/Download/open-vm-tools-2009.06.18-172495 (let the remainder of the line wrap around). 4. Now rerun the m-a command, except that the source must not be unpacked again (that would override the changes just made), so use the command (as root) m-a -O a-i open-vm (that's a capital letter O), and now the compilation and the subsequent Debian packaging and installation of the modules succeeds (it did for my 2.6.30-1-amd64 kernel in a mixed testing/Sid system) -- open-vm-modules-2.6.30-1-amd64 package listed in Aptitude under Obsolete and Locally created packages. Bug#522858: The upstream version works fine
Guys. You may seriously want to reconsider the debian patch to src/list.c. What it does, basically, is make tar exit when it encounters a zero block and no -i flag is given, without exhausting the input. The without exhausting the input part is important when the input is piped from a decompressor, because it means that the gunzip (or bunzip2, or whatever) child of tar gets a SIGPIPE, and beginning with 1.22 tar actually bothers to notice the fact and bombs out too. Bottom line: this patch has always been wrong, but its effect is only visible beginning with the 1.22 upstream version. So this needs to be built from qemu in the future, but this is not nearly ready. Oh, it's about ioemu-remote stuff. You could also include a tarball of qemu-xen tree (or whatever the correct tree is) if that helps? Actually I don't think you should build the upstream qemu for xen 3.4.0. Xen 3.4.0 uses it's own version of qemu, not the upstream qemu, afaik. If I understand this correctly, as a default Xen 3.4 hg/mercurial source tree [1] uses 'ioemu-remote', which means the Xen version of Qemu (qemu-xen) is developed on a separate git tree [2]. The official Xen 3.4.0 release tarball [3] contains embedded copy of this ioemu-remote qemu-xen tree on tools/ioemu-qemu-xen directory, so the release tarball can be built without internet/git access. For example Fedora's Xen 3.4.0 source RPM contains the xen-3.4.0.tar.gz release tarball, and they build the included ioemu, just like in earlier Xen releases. Bug#536349: emacs22-common: mailcap entries for compose(1) and auto-insert-mode
Package: emacs22-common Version: 22.3+1-1.1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Reminded by 20090709005937.ga10...@dario.dodds.net I realized that it would be pretty useful to map run-mailcap action compose to what emacs already offers with auto-insert-mode. Quoting run-mailcap(1): EXAMPLES ... compose text/html:index.htm This is a perfect example of what emacs is capable of. However, since auto-insert-mode is not enabled by default, many users probably do not know. But the compose action explicitly tells us the user wants to compose a new document, so template insertion should be forced in this case. Without the attached mailcap entries, vim is fired up with a blank new file when doing compose text/html:index.htm. With the attached mailcap entries installed under /usr/lib/mime/packages, emacs fires up and asks for the document title. It then automatically inserts a simple HTML template. The same also works for: $ compose file.h $ compose file.hh $ compose document.ltx Additionally, as a side benefit, emacs is now also fired up when doing $ edit index.html or $ edit file.ltx and the appropriate mode is initialized according to auto-mode-alist. pgpuBrDl6ViuL.pgp Description: PGP signature text/html; view %s; edit=emacs22 %s; compose=emacs22 --eval '(progn (setq auto-insert-query nil) (auto-insert-mode 1))' %s; needsterminal; text/x-chdr; view %s; edit=emacs22 %s; compose=emacs22 --eval '(progn (setq auto-insert-query nil) (auto-insert-mode 1))' %s; needsterminal; text/x-csrc; view %s; edit=emacs22 %s; compose=emacs22 --eval '(progn (setq auto-insert-query nil) (auto-insert-mode 1))' %s; needsterminal; text/x-c++hdr; view %s; edit=emacs22 %s; compose=emacs22 --eval '(progn (setq auto-insert-query nil) (auto-insert-mode 1))' %s; needsterminal; text/x-c++src; view %s; edit=emacs22 %s; compose=emacs22 --eval '(progn (setq auto-insert-query nil) (auto-insert-mode 1))' %s; needsterminal; text/x-tex; view %s; edit=emacs22 %s; compose=emacs22 --eval '(progn (setq auto-insert-query nil) (auto-insert-mode 1))' %s; needsterminal; -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages emacs22-common depends on: ii dpkg 1.15.3 Debian package management system ii emacsen-common1.4.19 Common facilities for all emacsen emacs22-common recommends no packages. Hi, On Thu, Jul 09, 2009 at 11:41:02AM +0200, Daniel Leidert wrote: Alternatives in build-dependencies are not supported by sbuild, Use the -C switch. Further this behavior is violating the Debian Policy section 7.1. You might file a bug report with severity normal, but not a serious bug. No, I believe Lucas is right. The first option *has* to be available in practise, this is a long-standing difference between Policy and how Debian (i.e. the autobuilders) actually works. It is OK (IMHO) to add the second Build-Depends to ease backporting, but for unstable, we havet to make sure that the first is installable. There will be a new upstream version of OpenBabel in the next days anyway, and we can then address this problem. cheers, Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Removing the files is an easy way of cleaning up, since missing files will be ignored when the package .diff.gz is created This is better solved in CDBS: config.guess and config.sub is overridden with those from autotools-dev - but currently the files are looked for only as files, broken symlinks are not handled. Bug#536354: linux-2.6: [s390,lenny] kernel panic during boot
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.26-17 Severity: important A user reported on d-s390 [1] that a Lenny installation on s390 failed with a kernel panic during boot. I could reproduce the panic on my Hercules system using the installer. I then installed the current Lenny kernel on my installed Hercules system (running sid), and when I rebooted that with .26 I got the same panic, so it looks to be a kernel problem and not an installer problem. We included an s390 specific patch in 2.6.26-16 for #511334, but TBH I would be surprised if that was the cause given that it was very well tested. I'll try to look into this myself but can't give an ETA for results. Bug#536093: RM: rolo -- RoQA; dead upstream, orphaned

These were added/updated a few month ago. Maybe you looked at rolo before this was done or you just compiled it without running debian/rules patch before. If there are still bugs regarding UTF-8 in rolo please file them. Rafael did a great job in the past and was very responsive to such bugs, I think they could have been fixed already if they were reported earlier. libvc, which is only used by rolo, should also be removed if rolo really gets removed from Debian. The encoding in fields (#415736) you were talking about is not part of vCard v3.0, which is used by rolo. I think most of my problems are related to vCard 3.0 vss 2.1. I am still investigating. vCard 3.0 seems a regression (also see #536094). btw, it's been orphaned. Will you take over? No. I will take a look at rolo if there are RC-Bugs (e.g. FTBFS) and will consider doing a qa-upload, but not more. This is clearly not sufficient to maintain a package properly. If you're the one taking care of RC bugs, then you ought to be listed as maintainer. If the package remains unmaintained, it should be removed. The QA team is overloaded, and relying on peole like you to take a look isn't going to ensure Debian's quality. -- .''`. martin f. krafft madd...@d.o Related projects: : :' : proud Debian developer http://debiansystem.info `. `'` http://people.debian.org/~madduckhttp://vcs-pkg.org `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing systems digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/)

Bug#532443: should not be wontfix
Hi, Am Donnerstag, den 09.07.2009, 02:19 -0400 schrieb Joey Hess: This bug just happened to me. The only way to make sense of the error message is to google it and find this bug report. Why on earth is this bug marked wontfix? The rationalle in the wontfix message explains why .hi and .o files can't be expected to be ABI compatible across ghc upgrades. But it does not explain why xmonad cannot delete the old object files when run with --recompile or when the user presses the reload key. I guess ghc6 should catch the error and then treat the file as if it had an old version identifier, thus leading to a recompilation. Bug#441626: scponly: Support --bwlimit option of rsync
Hello, I forwarded this to the scponly mailinglist. Tom Vincent Bernat wrote: Package: scponly Version: 4.6-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hi ! Using rsync with --bwlimit option is rejected by scponly. Here is a patch that adds support for this option. This patch also includes patch from bug #404996 since it depends on it (having --bwlimit support when rsync is not supported is not very useful). This patch adds '=' to the list of allowed characters.
