 Definitely. When you use startx with an .xinitrc, you won't use the
 debian X startup stuff (/etc/X11/Xsession.d) and thus you don't have the
 authorizations. So you need to wipe out your .xinitrc and replace it by
 an .xsession file. I think you should be able to put there:

 numlockx
 xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap
 exec startxfce4

 Maybe tune that a little, then start using startx only, and it ~should~
 work fine.

I'm closing it now, feel free to reopen if needed, but basically all
explanations are here (and in README.Debian in xfce4-session)

 debian/attic/console-data.config uses
 dpkg --print-installation-architecture
 , which is obsolete and prints a warning to the user.

...but, as far as I know, the debian/attic/ directory has obsolete
stuff that's not used. I should actually drop that directory unless
someone knows about the rationale for its existence.

Still, console-data's config script *has* the call the dpkg
--print-installation-architecture but the culprit here is
dh-consoledata (from the console-common source package and used to
build console-data).

The call to dpkg --print-installation-architecture is still in
console-common (in
/usr/share/debhelper/dh-consoledata/common.pl). Therefore
dh-consoledata inserts it in the generated .config file for
console-data.

So, what should be done:

1) change console-common's common.pl file and rebuild console-common
2) drop debian/attic in console-data to avoid later confusion
3) rebuilt console-data with the new console-common

Bug#537216: distcc: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2009-07-16 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: distcc
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
--languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
Language-Team field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

That's my experience with sendmail too. Until a week ago.

 A possible explanation is the timeouts set up on sendmail side.

 This bug only generates a crash when an inactive connection was
 detected by libmilter (not by the MTA). So, if the MTA timeout for
 inactive connections is less than two hours, the connection will be
 closed by the MTA and the filter will never crash. I'm wondering if
 some of the default timeouts set by debian can't be bigger than two
 hours...

Is it somehow possible to avoid MTA timeout and still have libmilter
time out?

 Today is a bad day. First dbus made the whole sstems unresponsive due to
 a bug in debhelper leading to install most dbus binaries using
 /debian/tmp as root.
 The bug from dbus seems to come from a bug in debhelper, so maybe there are
 other packages with problems.

 Regards, Lisandro.

 Indeed, dbus-x11 suffers the same bug

I fixed both manually and X does works. Kdm not.

Thanks for the hint anyway.

Quoting Daniel Baumann (dan...@debian.org):
 Package: console-data
 Severity: wishlist

 The Swiss German keyboard layout is named 'ch' in Xorg. For consistency
 reason, it would make sense that console-layout renames it from 'sg' to
 'ch' too.

Well, Daniel, thanks for reporting this...but abandoning console-* in
favour of console-setup is planned, starting by D-I using
console-setup and installing it on new systems.

So, such changes in console-data, that would require setting up a
transition for usersare very unlikely to happen.

There are many keymaps in console-data whose names are not aligned
with layout names in console-setup (not to mention variantsa
concept that doesn't exist in c-d). So, the change would need to
happen for these also.

I could reconsider thisif someone provides a patch to deal with
the transition in maintainer scripts.

  How about only installing debugging infos in the debugging package?

 THis would be ideal. Current tools like crash don't work with an
 image that's been stripped with --only-keep-debug. I'm not sure what
 strip is removing that crash needs, but I'll look into it.

This will not work on x86 because the bootable image is no elf file.

 Stripping the modules themselves with --only-keep-debug seems to work
 with crash, but then it saves only a marginal amount of space (from 963
 MB down to 926 MB on a 2.6.29 kernel).

Äh. What is the size of the resulting packages?

Bug#537053: libpam-modules: problems authenticating NIS users from gnome-screensaver

2009-07-16 Thread Stefano Crocchianti
Thanks for replying.

 I don't understand. Are you suggesting that the user is present in both the
 NIS map *and* in /etc/passwd? Why would you do that?

No, I am not. In my configuration the user is defined in passwd and shadow
files on NIS SERVER. On the NIS client (debian lenny) nsswitch.conf
file I have the entries:
passwd: files nis
shadow: files nis
When pam_unix.so queries the NIS database as a regular user,
the password field is substituted by the x character, which is
present in the /etc/passwd of the NIS SERVER (as stated in the
passwd(5) and pwconv(8) man entry). I downloaded pam_1.0.1-5+lenny1 debian
sources, compiled with --enable-debug configure option, created the
/var/log/pam-debug.log file with perms 666 to verify the behaviour,
which is also reproduced by the ypmatch user passwd command.
  In this way, the above mentioned line 167 of passverify.c evaluates to
FALSE and the unix_chkpwd helper is not invoked, resulting in an
authorization denied even if the correct password is typed.

I presently modified the if statement as follows:
  if (strcmp((*pwd)-pw_passwd, *NP*) == 0 ||
 strcmp((*pwd)-pw_passwd, x) == 0)

and now the authorization is granted.
Thanks for your help,

Stefano

Bug#537182: leftover startpar process after makefile concurrency boot

2009-07-16 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Iain Calder]
 Perhaps that is the cause of the problem?

I doubt this is the cause of the problem, but thank you for the tip.
I guess this should be fixed too.

I am not sure, but I believe the cause of this problem is that file
descriptor 0 is /dev/ptmx, while it should be some pseudo terminal or
a pipe.

I did some further testing after reading the startpar source, and
discovered that the interactive scripts are handled in different code
paths from non-interactive scripts. Because of this, I added '#
X-Interactive: true' to init.d/rsyslog and reran insserv to flag the
script as interactive. After doing this change, the leftover startpar
process were gone. This tells me that the non-interactive code path
got the problem. Still no idea what is wrong.

PS: bounced your message to BTS, and replies to BTS too, to make the
suggestion available to the public and upstream.

Happy hacking,

 This is the hanging code:

   if (rr == -1)
 {
   perror(write);
   rr = r;
 }
   r -= rr;
 }
 }

Sorry to barge in, I really know nothing about this code or
the bug. But it seems to me that this code should augment b.
Otherwise this code can behave as an infinite loop.
I.e. it should be:

Bug#537219: cpufreqd still complaints about missing files in /sys/class/power_supply

2009-07-16 Thread Tomas Davidek

Package: cpufreqd
Version: 2.3.3-4
Severity: normal

Although changelog claims that the bug #495655 is already addressed,
the daemon still issues error messages in daemon.log:

open /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_now (No such file or directory)

Running cpufreqd in foreground mode, I see:
get_class_device_attribute: couldn't open
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_full (No such file or directory)
get_class_device_attribute: found charge_full - path
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_full
get_class_device_attribute: couldn't open

get_class_device_attribute: found status - path
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status
get_class_device_attribute: found current_now - path
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/current_now

So apparently it works, but I think if the second class of files are found,
cpufreqd should not issue these messages.

Correct. However vim doesn't automatically detect that /var/log/syslog is

don-migrate-to-testing pro forma bug.

KDE webkit kpart is part of KDE playground and not good enough for release.

Once it migrates from playground to regular KDE, it'll probably be released
as part of kdelibs or some other kde package, so the separate source package

 Installing ia32-libgtk2.0-dev by ia32-aptitude installs a lot of ia32-*
 libraries but these are not marked as automatically installed in
 aptitude (64bit).

 Aptitude or ia32-aptitude?

There is aptitude and ia32-aptitude.

What ia32-aptitude marks as automatically installed aptitude sees as
manually installed.

Dear Jakub,

In the hope of speeding up and strenghtening the processing of NEW I had a look
at your package. The rationale is explained in the proposal in the following
wiki page: http://wiki.debian.org/CopyrightReview

I realised that the file docutils/setup-docutils-plugin.py has different
redistribution terms than the rest of aafigure:

$ head docutils/setup-docutils-plugin.py
# $Id$
# Author: Lea Wiemann lewiem...@gmail.com
# Author: Chris Liechti cliec...@gmx.net
# Copyright: This file has been placed in the public domain.

from setuptools import setup, find_packages
setup(
name = 'docutils-aafigure',
version = '0.3',
description = ASCII art figures for reStructuredText,

I do not know if it is grave enough to prevent your package from being accepted
in Debian's main archive. Nevertheless, since re-uploading your package to NEW
will not change its position in the queue, it may be useful to correct this
imprecision.

Have a nice day,

 Hi,

 In presentation mode, evince skips the last slide and goes directly to

 behaviour. :-)

Yeah, it's a new feature, don't you like it? :)

 As I said, there was one, but they removed it. They think that
 applications should use PolicyKit instead. (Not that I agree.)

I also agree xdgsu is the way to go. If it was revived upstream we wouldn't need
to locally patch desktop files, they could be changed upstream, and even the
.desktop files standards recommend the use of xdgsu rather than $suwrapper.

I asked about it in 2008 [1], but got no reply.

[1] http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/portland/2009-May/001082.html

 Unless we can get upstream to somehow accept patches and new interfaces,
 I think it would be better to add them to another package. Calling
 things xdg-* without having anything to do with freedesktop.org seems wrong.

Agreed.

  See upstream commit a137802ee839ace40079bebde24cfb416f73208a.

 I tried applying that fix, but it causes a build failure because the
 compiler we use for lenny (gcc-4.1) doesn't support it. It seems
 strange that upstream would drop '-fwrapv' due to problems w/
 gcc-4.1.x, but then require an option that's not supported by gcc-4.1
 at all. Maybe that option got added in the 4.1.x stream after Debian
 released it? Maybe I'm missing a kernel change that would prevent this
 option from being used in 4.1?

That's weird. IIUC the 'call cc-option' function is supposed to check
whether an option is supported by the gcc version being used and only
actually add it if it is.

See Documentation/kbuild/makefiles.txt and scripts/Kbuild.include.

Bug#537234: maildir-utils: mu-find manpage differs from behaviour

2009-07-16 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: maildir-utils
Version: 0.4-2
Severity: normal

The manpage says on --format:

| The fields corresponding to certain letters are the same as the ones
| in search expressions (scroll down for the list).

Then later:

| s: subject
| f: from (sender)
| t: to (recipient)
| c: cc: (carbon-copy recipient)
| m: message id
| p: message priority
| P: path to the message
| d: date
| z: size
| F: flags

Now when I try --format=p I get path names instead of priorities and
using --format=P there is just Ps.

This sounds like an inconsistency in implementation and documentation or
an implementation bug.

think I am not the only one who does symlink all of their ~/.* to
somewhere else to keep them in vcs, and having some apps that do not
support it is a shame.

2009-07-16 Thread Ulrich Van Den Hekke
Package: dbus
Severity: important

I have the same problem. Since upgrade to version 1.2.16.-1
If i downgrade dbus to 1.2.14, i don't have error message but KDE doesn't work.
I think it's because, libdbus and dbus-x11 are in version 1.2.16
For the moment, i can't use KDE (and so KMail, Konqueror, KDevelop, ...)

Bug#537240: cdbs: should create versioned debhelper dependency

2009-07-16 Thread Marc Haber
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.58
Severity: wishlist

cdbs creates an unversioned debhelper dependency, which triggers a
lintian warning on the generated package. Additionally, when
control.in already has debhelper (5) listed, a second, unversioned
dependency is added by cdbs.

cdbs should either generate a versioned debhelper dependency itself,
or it should notice that there is already a debhelper dependency in
control.in and refrain from adding its own.

This is really a bug in gettext. If we have libgomp1 in the archive,
gettext should use it in preference over its own embedded version, as
static linking is evil from the security point of view.

I noticed this extra dependency in 0.17-5 and tried to sanitize it in

 Not quite, this is a different kind of server/client relation ship.
 This is a session runtime service, more like D-Bus clients depending on D-Bus.
 A part of the runtime infrastructure, essential functionality shared between
 applications through inter process communication.

Probably that was not the right analogy, but... I still cannot think of
 mysql-server as a session runtime service.

But also if akonadi was part of a KDE infrastructure, it should be clear
that people can have addressbook (like I do) in an LDAP server. That's
one of the supported sources for kaddressbook, so forcing me to use
akonadi (and to install mysql for this) just to look in an LDAP
directory cannot be a correct choice.

Bug#537242: php-xml-serializer should depend on php-xml-util | php-pear (= 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2)

2009-07-16 Thread Thomas Goirand
Package: php-xml-serializer

Severity: grave
Tags: patch

Hi,

In SID, php-pear has a statement:

Replaces: php-xml-util, php4-pear ( 4:4.4.0-0)

meaning that, currently, it's impossible to install php-xml-serializer
completely because php-xml-util simply doesn't exist anymore. Switching the
dependency as suggested in the subject of this message would make the
package work in every situation (SID or Lenny).

Please do this change ASAP, as this is affecting other packages (including
the one that I am maintaining, and it's quite blocking my devs.). Thanks
in advance, and thank you for maintaining this package.

I have an application which has an init.d script written in Python,

be removed from a system.

Please either add an exception for Python, for scripts starting in the

Bug#537247: ITP: qoauth -- Qt-based library for OAuth authentication

2009-07-16 Thread Patryk Cisek
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: qoauth
  Version : 0.1.0
  Upstream Author : Dominik Kapusta d...@ayoy.net
* URL : http://github.com/ayoy/qoauth
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: C++

Simply, OAuth is a way of connecting an application to the Service Provider’s
API without needing to provide User’s login or password. The authorization is
based on an exchange of a Token (user-specific) together with a Consumer Key
(application-specific), encrypted with a combination of so called Token Secret
and Customer Secret. Getting access to Protected Resources consists in three
basic steps:

   1. obtaining an unauthorized Request Token from the Service Provider,
   2. asking the User to authorize the Request Token,
   3. exchanging the Request Token for an Access Token.

Details are covered in Section 6 [1] of the OAuth 1.0 Core Specification. As
the authorization procedure is quite complex, the QOAuth library helps to
simplify it by doing all the dirty work behind the scenes.

Could you please quote that lintian warning?

Additionally, when control.in already has debhelper (5) listed, a

Confirmed: control.in code only adds, does not merge currently.

I have ugly unofficial code to cleanup (see below debian/cdbs in e.g.
moin package or any other of the packages maintained by d...@jones.dk).

Would be lovely with perl or python script relying on some well
maintained library to do proper merging of package dependencies to strip
superfluous ones.

cdbs should either generate a versioned debhelper dependency itself,
or it should notice that there is already a debhelper dependency in
control.in and refrain from adding its own.

I don't see why unversioned dependency is bad - curious about that
lintian warning.

Kind regards, and thanks for reporting this,

2009-07-16 Thread LI Daobing
package ibus
tag 534523 moreinfo
thanks

does this bug still exist in the lastest ibus package(1.2.0.20090617-1)?

can you killall ibus process, then test it with following command:

1. run ibus-daemon -xv in a console
2. trigger ibus in another application
3. check what printed in the console of first step.

thanks.

Bug#537210: libbsd: FTBFS: build fail on Renesas SH(sh4)

2009-07-16 Thread Petr Salinger

I made a patch to support SH.

The patch is bogus, #if defined(FOO) is the correct syntax.
You will probably need to provide either the __LITTLE_ENDIAN__
or __BIG_ENDIAN__ symbol.

The patch is only reverted, the bug is really in libbsd sources.

Bug#535934: xserver-xorg-core: no input devices found

2009-07-16 Thread Matthew Sackman
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Severity: normal

I have exactly the same problem, but with version 2:1.6.2-1 as well as
version 2:1.6.1.901-2. Have just spent an hour or so forcing downgrades
to 1.4, but at least I have X working again now.

Bug#537249: command-line/options ignore

2009-07-16 Thread Joao Paulo Serrachinha

Package: clamav-milter
Version: 0.95.2+dfsg-1~volatile1
Severity: grave
Justification: unusable

After trying again the version on volatile the same problems again;

- /etc/default/clamav-milter command-line ignore
- /etc/clamav/clamav-milter.conf options ignore

It's hard to have a sendmail with clamav-milter!
Urgency: low for MTA users using clamav-milter the urgency is very high.

Back again to version on stable.
