Bug#557029: vbrfix: Leaves temp file and empty log file behind.

2009-11-18 Thread Philipp Weis
Package: vbrfix
Version: 0.24-5
Severity: normal

After running vbrfix in.mp3 out.mp3, I end up with two extra files
in the current directory: an empty logfile vbrfix.log, and an exact
copy of out.mp3 names vbrfix.tmp. I would expect the tmp file to not
exist at all, and the logfile not to exist unless I used the -log
command line option.

Package: mp3diags

The application aks for permission to check for updated versions
online. On debian, this is pretty much useless as the package manager
should just take care of that. Please consider removing this function
from the debian package. This is for example how the iceweasel/firefox
package is done.

Bug#511615: The user must be added to bluetooth group

2009-11-18 Thread Jaime Alberto Silva
I was having this problem and after reading this bug messages I checked
my /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf and found that the group allowed to
access the devices is bluetooth.

So now you must do:

# adduser bla bluetooth

Where bla is the user you want to grant access to the bluetooth devices.

I haven't restarted my session to see if it works because I don't want to
stop an important process now. But I'm sending this message before I forgot
to do it.

I will send a message telling if it works (if I remember)

Bug#557033: linux-image-2.6.31-1-amd64: Kernel logs WARNING at hpet.c:390.

2009-11-18 Thread Gerry Butler

Subject: linux-image-2.6.31-1-amd64: Kernel logs WARNING at hpet.c:390.
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.31-1
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
syslog reports WARNING at hpet.c:390.

The system appears to run normally, except for a single message from
GNOME: Your system had a kernel failure. However, hpet.c:390 is an
invocation

of macro WARN_ON_ONCE, so I wonder if the system might be taking a
performance hit if the fault is actually occurring many times (see below
for more information on this).

The computer is a new Intel core i7-860, Chipset P55, Gigabyte P55UD3p,
nVidia Geforce 9600GT. Two Seagate 1TB disks in mirrored RAID
configuration.

The fault initially occurred in the stable lenny distribution with
kernel 2.6.26.

I installed linux-image-2.6.31-1-amd64 from sid to see if it would go
away. It didn't.

A similar fault in linux-image-2.6.26-1-686 was reported in bug report
512617 in January 2009, and closed in July 2009.

History of my installation: Initially I installed the 32-bit version of
lenny: debian-502-i386-DVD-n.iso. When I booted the system, it wrote
WARNING messages from hpet.c at the rate of megabytes per minute. I then
installed the 64-bit version of lenny: debian-503-amd64-DVD-n.iso.

hpet.c:390 from linux-image-2.6.31-1-amd64 invokes WARN_ON_ONCE, but my
previous experience with the 32-bit distribution makes me believe that
the fault is in fact occurring many times per second, and hence I wonder
if there might be a performance hit.

Bug#556951: [binutils] objcopy fails with 'Invalid operation'

Is this a known problem with binutils-gold?

yes, I did see this as well recently.
Could it be that it is new with 2.20-3 or 2.20-4? I think I didn't saw that
 in
earlier version. I think I saw it the first time when compiling batctl -
 which
I compiled right after update of my Sources file. This was after the 11.
 November.

I wanted to write a bug report right now but haven't a glue why it fails.

 objcopy --only-keep-debug debian/batctl/usr/sbin/batctl
 debian/batctl-dbg/usr/lib/debug//usr/sbin/batctl

seems to work without any problems. The real problem is

 objcopy --add-gnu-debuglink debian/batctl-dbg/usr/lib/debug//usr/sbin/batctl
 debian/batctl/usr/sbin/batctl

So a small test would be:

 $ echo 'int main() { return 0; }'  test.c  \
   gcc -g3 test.c -o test \
   objcopy --only-keep-debug test test.dbg \
objcopy --add-gnu-debuglink=./test.dbg test echo cool it works
objcopy:stCdJOm4: cannot create debug link section `./test.dbg': Invalid
 operation

This works with the old linker, but not with binutils-gold

So I build the cvs version of the linker and objcopy and it is the same here.
So it is propably an upstream bug.

I only see this when upgrading to current glibc in unstable; not with testing.

Could you be more precise with the versions? glibc in testing and
unstable have the same version.

I just found the explanation why there is a new default layout.

I actually don't care which layout is default, but having an obvious

Bug#546527: More info on menu hang bug

2009-11-18 Thread John Eikenberry

I ran into this bug today and did a bit of digging. Thought I'd pass that
along.

First note that this bug effects all of the rxvt-unicode variants, not just
rxvt-unicode-ml. Also note that killing X11 isn't required, Ctrl-Alt-F1
still works to switch to the console where you can kill urxvt and un-freeze
X11.

First a resource dump.

Corresponding Ubuntu bug.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/archlinux/+source/rxvt-unicode/+bug/317366

rxvt-unicode ml threads (2 threads; links to first posts)
http://lists.schmorp.de/pipermail/rxvt-unicode/2009q3/001035.html
http://lists.schmorp.de/pipermail/rxvt-unicode/2009q3/001042.html

According to urxvt ml thread this is an xorg bug. Ubuntu applied the patch
from the second ml thread listed above, but upstream decided against it as
it was an xorg bug. They considered a compile time option for the
workaround but decided it 'broke' things and didn't belong in the urxvt
codebase.

The dev I spoke to on irc (schmorp) said he thought it was a decent enough
temporary workaround as long as it was removed once the xorg bug was
fixed. So I have attached the patch to this as a possible fix.

If you're looking to just prevent the hang you can disable the popup menus
via an .Xresources tweak.

Bug#556882: Please enable console-setup to leave kernel fonts alone

2009-11-18 Thread Dave Witbrodt
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.47
Severity: normal

In April 2009 I emailed debian-b...@lists.debian.org to request that
console-setup allow kernel fonts to be used without being replaced by
software fonts. Colin Watson responded, providing a fix: setting
FONTFACE and FONTSIZE to an empty string would prevent 'console-setup'
from loading software fonts, while it would still configure the keyboard
correctly.

Updating Sid recently brought in 'console-setup' v1.47. On my next
reboot, the 10x18 kernel font was replaced by a software font. I
suspected that the new 'console-setup' had overwritten my settings in
'/etc/default/console-setup', since such a bug had occured when these
changes were first introduced in April. However, I see no settings that
have been overwritten. The only possible difference I can see is that I
now have

FONTFACE=
FONTSIZE=

where I originally thought I had

FONTFACE=
FONTSIZE=

This should make no difference, however. The only other oddity I can
see in '/etc/default/console-setup' is unrelated to fonts: I previously
had

XKBMODEL=pc104
XKBLAYOUT=us
XKBVARIANT=
XKBOPTIONS=lv3:ralt_switch

in '/etc/default/console-setup', but these settings have moved to
'/etc/default/keyboard' (because of the new 'keyboard-configuration' package)
with the value of XKBMODEL lost:

XKBMODEL=
XKBLAYOUT=us
XKBVARIANT=
XKBOPTIONS=lv3:ralt_switch

The settings don't explain the change in behavior of 'console-setup'
regarding kernel fonts, so there must have been a change in its code.

I would like to second Josh Triplett's request to have the April-
November behavior restored, with 'console-setup' allowing kernel fonts
to be used without being overwritten by software fonts!

Thanks,
Dave W.

Bug#557035: gedit-latex-plugin: fails : wrong path while setting the master file

2009-11-18 Thread Nicolas Maître
Package: gedit-latex-plugin
Version: 0.2rc2-2
Severity: normal

Hi,
I've got an python error which prevents the plugin to work properly.
It occurs when I create a tex file (from terminal : gedit lala.tex) and
set the masterfile (to the already existing truc.tex, for example).

% gedit lala.tex
sys:1: GtkWarning: gtk_action_set_sensitive: assertion `GTK_IS_ACTION (action)'

master_content = open(master_file.path).read()
IOError: [Errno 2] Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type: ''

So the latex environment won't load.
But if I *save lala.tex* and close gedit, and then if I redo a gedit
lala.tex, all's going right, the LaTeX bar appears etc...
It seems to be a little messy with the paths (I was thinking of something
related to urlparse ?)

If I don't save the file, I get somthing like that at the second run of 'gedit
lala.tex :

Could you be more precise with the versions? glibc in testing and
 unstable have the same version.

sorry, no. it probably was -5, but I'm not sure.

I have been able to reproduce the problem here, it seems to be due to
the way crt*.o files are stripped. I have lost the .deb of -5, so I need
to do a rebuild of eglibc for more investigation.

one warning) and runs our package. I'll upload this to Debian now, so feel
free to release this to the world at large.

Two issues remain for Iustin or whoever wants to adopt it: split off the

Bug#557038: webalizer: sample configuration for google is inadequate

2009-11-18 Thread Russell Coker
Package: webalizer
Version: 2.01.10-32.6
Severity: normal

The sample configuration for webalizer doesn't group Google referrals and
doesn't have a SearchEngine line for each Google domain.

For my own configuration I've moved the main webalizer.conf file to
/etc/webalizer/webalizer.conf.base and put the following in a Makefile
to generate the file that is really used:

webalizer.conf: webalizer.conf.base google-domains.txt Makefile
cp webalizer.conf.base webalizer.conf
for n in `cat google-domains.txt` ; do ( echo HideReferrer
www.$$n/search ; echo HideReferrer www.$$n/url ; echo HideReferrer
images.$$n/imgres ; echo HideReferrer blogsearch.$$n/ ; echo GroupReferrer
www.$$n/search Google Search ; echo GroupReferrer www.$$n/url Google Search ;
echo GroupReferrer images.$$n/imgres Google Image Search ; echo GroupReferrer
blogsearch.$$n/ Google Blogsearch ; echo SearchEngine $$n q= )
webalizer.conf ; done

The google-domains.txt file has the following contents, note that I am not sure
that I have the complete list and I have not confirmed that every Google domain
is actually owned by Google (there is a possibility that one of them is a
squatted domain). But for the purposes of producing reliable webalizer output
this list is good enough. For my use it means that instead of having 30 Google
domains blocking all the other entries from my Referrer list I have three
Google entries for regular search, images search, and blog search. I'm sure
that there are other possibilities and I think that adding entries for video
search etc would be a good idea (but I don't have test data).

Bug#556999: Successful installation - problems and suggestions

2009-11-18 Thread Christian Perrier
reassign 556999 installation-guide
retitle 556999 Should adapt documentation about booting from an ISO image to
GRUB2
thanks

Quoting Tonda Mísek (mis...@naxo.net):

 1. Problem to boot from ISO image

I reassign your report to the installation guide for that reason.

 2. Two network cards confusion

netcfg has such a suggestion. So I won't add more to it.

 3. HD partitioning

partman is sometimes hard to cope with. An entirely new partitioning
tool could help, but would lose the great flexibility we have in partman

 4. I was not able to select only some packages
I can select only predefined packs of software (desktop, www server...). I
want for example only Gnome (not KDE) etc.

This is documented. You can do it with boot options.

 5. A lot of waiting

Much has been done to minimize this but the structure of the install
process doesn't allow for much progress here

Bug#557039: thttpd: support for ogg mime/content types

Package: thttpd
Version: 2.25b-6
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello. thttpd is currently lacking support for the following ogg mime
types:

oga audio/ogg
ogv video/ogg
ogx application/ogg

The included patch adds them to the mime_types.txt file in the source
which should allow them to be properly handled. It's important to get
these in now, with iceweasel 3.5's new native support for these mime
type.

Thanks for maintaining, and let me know if there are any other
questions.

jamie.

While reading in the source a bit, I noticed that error handling for

a bad thing for code that's supposed to handle important data.
At the very least, I think, the man page should point out that you
shouldn't trust the output data unless you have verified that each

Bug#557043: libpcap-ruby1.8: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/pcaplet.rb:77:in `=~': wrong type Regexp (expected Pcap::Packet) (TypeError)

2009-11-18 Thread Clinton Gower
Package: libpcap-ruby1.8
Version: 0.6-9.1
Severity: normal

Attempting to add two Filter objects to a Pcaplet object produces the error.

I have included sample code that will reproduce the error, along with a patch
to
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/pcaplet.rb that seems to resolve the issue.

Simple code sample that reproduces the error:

#!/usr/bin/ruby
require 'pcaplet'

network = Pcaplet.new

# The first add_filter works correctly, but adding the second filter
produces the error.
network.add_filter(Pcap::Filter.new('src net 192.168.0.0/24',
network.capture))
network.add_filter(Pcap::Filter.new('dst port 80', network.capture))

network.close

exit(0)

Line 77 in pcaplet.rb uses a regular expression to check to see if @filter an
empty string.

If @filter is empty, then it is set to f. If f was a Filter object, then when
=~ is
used on @filter in the next add_filter call, it expects a Packet to come after
the =~
operator and fails.

The solution I found is to sanitize the f variable and make sure it is a string
before
it gets assigned to initialize the @filter variable. This is done by moving
line 80 up,
to before the if statement on line 77.

The patch I used on the /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/pcaplet.rb file is as follows:
76a77
   f = f.source if f.is_a? Filter
80d80
   f = f.source if f.is_a? Filter

After applying the patch, both Filter objects are successfully added without
error.

Regards,

Clinton Gower

This sound like incorrect information in fstab. The noauto flag is

Bug#556929: [34fa772] Fix for Bug#556929 committed to git

thanks
Hi,

The following change has been committed for this bug by
 Manoj Srivastava sriva...@debian.org on Thu, 19 Nov 2009 00:35:40 -0600.
The fix will be in the next upload.
=
Rework handling of XEN packages

So far, kernel-package would pay special attention to the
configuration files that enabled XEN hypervisor/guest images, mangling
the package name, and changing the file paths where the images were
dumped. This caused no end of confusion to third party tools, and also
surprised people when packages with different names had unexpected
file conflicts. With dpkg defaulting to --force-overwrite that could
be catastrophic. This is because a normal kernel image, a XenU or a
Xen0 image, all looked for modules in /lib/modules/$version, and would
conflict.

With this commit, kernel-package stops paying attention to the XEN
configuration hints in the config, producing a normal kernel image. If
users want to have a DomU or a Dom0 image from the same kernel
version, they will have to do what people wanting to run kernels witht
he same version with differing configurations have always had to do:
use --append-to-version to make the kernel images packages not
conflict.

[libselinux]: Do not ship /selinux

Shipping /selinux is a violation of the FHS, and is proscribed by
Debian policy. There is nothing that actually depends on /selinux
being present, possibly apart from user scripts. From this point on,
the machine operator will have to decide where to locate the mount
point for selinuxfs, and modify /etc/fstab accordingly. SELinux
modules scan for selinuxfs in /proc/mounts, so everything should
adjust to the location of the selinuxfs mount automatically.

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violate
section 7.6.1 of the policy. Possible solutions are to have the two
packages conflict, to rename the common file in one of the two
packages, or to remove the file from one package and have this package
depend on the other package. File diversions or a Replace relation are
another possibility.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  usr/share/lua/5.1/orbit/cache.lua
  usr/share/lua/5.1/orbit/init.lua
  usr/share/lua/5.1/orbit/model.lua
  usr/share/lua/5.1/orbit/ophandler.lua
  usr/share/lua/5.1/orbit/orbit.lua
  usr/share/lua/5.1/orbit/pages.lua

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

Bug#513348: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the xmame package

2009-11-18 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of xmame and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the xmame Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fi fr gl it ja pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: es eu gl pt_BR

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the xmame package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, November
25, 2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, November 14, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Thursday, November 19, 2009 : send this notice
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Thursday, November 26, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Thursday, December 03, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

If I delete the com.sun.star.sheet.addin.analysis.get (i.e. everything except

Try with a supported version and reconfirm then. (means: 1:3.1.1-8 from sid)
I will not care a second about bugs only in 1:3.1.1-2.

Bug#557054: tulip-doc and libmesh-doc: error when trying to install together

2009-11-18 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: libmesh-doc,tulip-doc
Version: libmesh-doc/0.6.4.dfsg-1
Version: tulip-doc/3.1.2-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violate
section 7.6.1 of the policy. Possible solutions are to have the two
packages conflict, to rename the common file in one of the two
packages, or to remove the file from one package and have this package
depend on the other package. File diversions or a Replace relation are
another possibility.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  usr/share/man/man3/Point.3.gz
  usr/share/man/man3/Sphere.3.gz
  usr/share/man/man3/Triangle.3.gz
  usr/share/man/man3/std.3.gz

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

-Ralf.

I've not been able to reproduce the crash after installing

removing the debugging packages, though.
