Bug#569155: dhcp3-client: interface-mtu 576 or lower completly ignored

I will check later this week if the MTU is set by the provider itself or needlessly by a crazy router. Anyway the reasoning behind the patch you have mentioned makes me think (as for now) that ignoring of too low MTU should be configurable instead of being hard coded. [ Very preliminary searches suggest crazy route/ISP in my case. ] I reserve right to change my opinion :-) I have some longer term plans to completely rewrite dhclient-script, and split out a lot of the functionality to the hooks. At this point the MTU sanitiser could be a hook, which could be disabled. It has been a crazy router/ISP in my case. tracepath program reported no problems with MTU higher than interface-mtu of 576 provided by DHCP. So that makes this working as intended? In this particular case dhcp3-client has done good choice by ignoring interface-mtu equal to 576 - my faith in the ISP [and its choice of cable modem (?)] has been reduced :-) So my submission is no longer a bug. It may be treated as *low* priority style improvement suggestion *if you wish* to replace the hard coded decision by a configuration option. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#567056: brasero: Brasero is very slow burning a data DVD-R
Hi, I'm sorry, I'm running a home mail server using a dynamic IP address Your mails are marked as spam but i do not allow my mail provider's automat to drop any mails. I now got the two missing mails Date: Mon, 8 Feb 2010 15:14:58 -0300 Date: Mon, 8 Feb 2010 15:16:11 -0300 just together with your newest mail Date: Thu, 11 Feb 2010 21:11:35 -0300 The culprit seems to be host33.190-230-6.telecom.net.ar which sat on the mails since monday, according to Received: headers. (Your own machine ?) If Brasero can burn to a disk file as drive target, then try whether it is as slow Yes, it does. It took about 4.5 minutes to build a 4.4GB image. That's about 16 MB/s = 12 x DVD speed. Not overly fast but no reason to slow down burning to 2.5 DVD speed. But it seems like Brasero uses growisofs, and AFAIK growisofs doesn't use libisoburn to make the image, right? The proposed xorriso commands would do a similar run as Brasero did with the disk file as drive. The data would flow through an interface object between libisofs and libburn. libburn would forward them to the fastest known consumer: /dev/null. I.e. the gathering of input data and production of the ISO image stream would be the same as in Brasero. The further data processing would not. It might be that this experiment becomes necessary if there cannot be found a reason why Brasero produces its ISO image at = 12x speed but hands it over to growisofs at only 2.5. So, now we should ask the brasero developers whether they have an idea what could be the bottleneck between libisofs and growisofs. If there is no insight emerging, then you should make a xorriso dummy run on DVD-R. Maybe we are lucky by seeing a similarly bad performance. Then i would have a jacking point for own examinations. Have a nice day :) Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Does it make sense to keep the Select a server near you drop-box? We wanted a test phase for geodns to see how it works. This has passed and thus I now disabled the box, should be visible on the pages within the next few hours - hopefully the dependencies are set properly so that the pages also get rebuilt. :) Keeping the bug open for now as pending. Even if it stays, it should at least show the chosen server, because now (at least for me) it always shows United States which makes me think the www.us.d.o mirror is used (I'm in Romania). It couldn't show the chosen server because that would require different pages for the different sites or the use of javascript which we highly try to avoid, and it wouldn't gain much. :) Thanks for your patience. That's not correct, the latin1 characters 127-255 are not legal utf-8 characters. You're probably thinking of 7-bit ASCII or that all latin1 characters are equal to the first 255 unicode codepoints? For some reason they are correct enough that cat somefile.txt would show them. However, less somefile.txt would mark the characters with 8th bit set as invalid as they usually don't compose into a valid utf-8 sequence. Bug#569139: Please provide upgrade script

I never ever get to this point where I could choose the option to update. That is because you answered incorrectly to the first question. Well, the question was really clear; if you have a existing database don't say yes to this question. So, no, it was correct. Maybe incorrect in the meaning of the logic but the correct answer to the question. However, later on I tried to say yes here (with having a backup of the database) and I also didn't get asked to update the existing database. You should have said yes when asked if dbconfig-common should configure it. But the question is about _creating_ and not _configuring_ it. At least as I read it. If you had done so, you would have been asked if you wanted to upgrade. I've done so later on and didn't get get question either. Therefore there is no bug in Bacula. For me it is still a bug of bacula. However, also if I say not to manage the database with dbconfig-common, there should be the update scripts anywhere around so I can use it myself. Maybe put it to /usr/share/doc/bacula/... Not wanting dbconfig to manage the database doesn't mean that the database do not have to be converted. I am reassigning this to dbconfig-common and asking its maintainer to make the wording on that first question more clear for people that are upgrading packages from pre-dbconfig-common versions to dbconfig-common versions. I think that is the only bug here. Maybe. This might be another bug. But this won't bring the update scripts for people who don't like the database to be managed by dbconfig-common. And let me say, I more and more dislike this package (dbconfig-common) to manage my database(s). Bug#569546: ITP: haskell-harp -- Haskell support for regular expression based pattern matching
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org Owner: mascell...@poisson.phc.unipi.it Package name: haskell-harp Version: 0.4 Upstream Author: Niklas Broberg ni...@cs.chalmers.se URL: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/harp License: BSD Description: Haskell support for regular expression based pattern matching HaRP, or Haskell Regular Patterns, is a Haskell extension that extends the normal pattern matching facility, allowing the user to match against regular expressions. This expressive power is highly useful in a wide range of areas, including text parsing and XML processing. Regular expression patterns in HaRP work over ordinary Haskell lists ([]) of arbitrary type. HaRP is implemented as a pre-processor to ordinary Haskell. Rationale: is a dependency of happstack (bug #569501). Bug#569548: fontforge: deterministic segfault
Package: fontforge Version: 0.0.20090923-1+b1 Severity: important Hi. I found (in a painful manner) that fontforge dies when in a very specific case: * open the font file bchr8a.pfb (from texlive-fonts-recommended). * select the character U+03BC. * go to Element Style Add small capitals and hit enter. I was trying to modify some fonts in such a manner that I could have small caps for use with XeLaTeX. It died in this character for any fonts that I tried, 100% reproducible. Actually, it also segfaults with other symbols (which I can't quite remember), but this one should already hint at the general problem. I've checked the version of that package in debian stable and the file layout seems similar enough (at least the path to rental/library.png is the same). -- Alexandre Fayolle http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=afayolle%40debian.orgcomaint=yes -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#569553: strongswan: Certificates CNs containing email address OIDs are not correctly parsed
Package: strongswan Version: 4.3.2-1.2 Severity: normal Tags: patch Upstream introduced a bug in version 4.3.x which breaks parsing of certificate common names if these contain email address OIDs (C=DE, O=org, e=...@bar.de). Bug#567473: Workaround
Hi- Thanks for finding this workaround. However, editing by hand is prone to errors. Since there are possibly many occurrences of old uuids in ~/.kde/share/config/knetworkmanagerrc, I wrote this AWK script (attached) to carefully make sure that they all get replaced in a consistent manner with proper UUIDs throughout the file. Bug#560665: zshdb: FTBFS: tests failed
Hi On Fri, Dec 11, 2009, Lucas Nussbaum wrote: Relevant part: Actually that's not the whole relevant part; there's also: checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes get_processor:3: command not found: ps ./ok4zshdb.sh:43: command not found: -if checking Checking whether /bin/zsh is compatible with zshdb... Your zsh doesn't have the fc -l patches. yes! checking for diff... /usr/bin/diff adding -w to diff in regression tests This particular problem is due to a missing build-dep on procps which provides ps, used in test/zsh/ok4zshdb.sh:get_processor(). (debootstrap --variant=buildd wont pull procps) /build/user-zshdb_0.03+git20090920-1-amd64-hSCnaM/zshdb-0.03+git20090920/lib/processor.sh:37: no such file or directory: That's the meat of the problem: lib/processor.sh:37 breaks the build because it uses $TTY: # For zsh, using this builtin parameter $TTY seems preferred over 0 # because it will find/fake a terminal when 0 might not be one. exec {_Dbg_fdi}$TTY TTY isn't set I managed to reproduce the problem in my build environment with: sudo mv /dev/tty /dev/tty.bak env -i dpkg-buildpackage -b /dev/null log 21 (obviously this might break your system) So I believe the buildd environment has a partial /dev without /dev/tty. I tried replacing $TTY with 0, and a real file, but that didn't work (hit the same test failures), and with a fifo, but that hanged the build waiting for the fifo to fill in. I'm not familiar with zshdb, but I suspect it might need a TTY during debug sessions which might be why the testsuite would use one as well. Someone more familiar with zshdb could perhaps check whether we can use coproc here, or a pair of fifos (adding code to properly close them as well), to replace the use of $TTY. Perhaps another way would be to pass a script (list of commands to run) to zshdb. As a last resort, I tried running make check under expect, but oddly that failed in the same way. While expect correctly sets up stdin, stdout, stderr on a pty, test/integration/check-common.sh:run_test_check() ruins that effort by using redirections: (cd $srcdir run_debugger $debugged_script 21 $TEST_FILE /dev/null) so zsh sees that stdin, stdout, and stderr aren't ttys and falls back to /dev/tty (which doesn't exist apparently). So I tried working around that with: expect -c 'spawn zsh -c ZSH_TTY=\$$TTY $(MAKE) check; expect' and changing lib/processor.sh to use ZSH_TTY. I don't know why *that* still fails. So it seems the only way is to rework the testsuite to not rely on using a real tty... I have doing some of the preliminary stuff and hope to make this work. If so, this seems the best way to go. Will let you know about this. Seems I made this work. I have been testing it in a chroot and everything seems to work fine. On Sunday a new dictionaries-common (1.5.0) will reach sid, so this can be tested in real life. This does not yet change priority, I prefer for now receiving all sort of complaints if things do not work as expected, although critical priority should now be used only in case of error (cross fingers). Bug#566844: libc6 causing Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info

If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. Thank you! All I get is Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info. If I upgrade a system to 2.7-18lenny2, I immediately start having problems, and as soon as I revert back to 2.7-18, everything works perfectly. I've been using the same NIS setup for close to 5 years now, and have been moving it along from Sarge, to Etch, to Lenny without any problems...until now. I am sorry about that. This security update was there to prevent leaking adjunct passwords to normal users. My /etc/nsswitch.conf: passwd: compat group: compat shadow: compat Like I said, I am using NIS, however both the NIS master server and the NIS clients both break when I upgrade libc6 to 2.7-18lenny2. The NIS server is again, a stock Debian Lenny server. With the NIS server, I am combining the passwd/shadow files on the NIS server into just the passwd map (using the MERGE_PASSWD option). So the NIS clients don't actually see any shadow file entries for any of the NIS accounts. Ok, so users were able to login even if there was no shadow entry. I've also tried changing the nsswitch.conf file to: passwd: nis files group: nis files shadow: files You'll notice I left the nis option off of the shadow entry, since there's no need for it, since there's no shadow map. My guess is that, this is the cause of the problem...In other words, because the system isn't seeing shadow entries, it's bailing out. But why all of a sudden did this break in the latest libc6? And is there a way to get the old functionality back? What the changes did is to stop merging adjunct passwords to the passwd database, and merge them in the shadow database instead. There is no new requirement for shadow entries. If you are not using adjunct password, no changes should have happened for you. As it doesn't work, it seems something has broken, we have to understand why. FYI, I have just done a NIS setup using the MERGE_PASSWD option, and only compat entries into /etc/nsswitch.conf, and I don't see this problem. I will need more informations to debug this: - Are you using adjunct passwords in addition to merged passwords? No. - As I understand, you have upgraded libc6 on both the NIS server and the clients. Can you please try to see if it also breaks if you upgrade only the clients? Yes it still breaks, when I upgrade just one of the clients. - Are you using nscd on the clients? No. - What the result of getent passwd a_nis_user on a client when running as a standard (local) user, a root user, for both Very interesting... Whether I run the getent command as root or a normal user, I get the following: On the libc6 (2.7-18) system: username:encrypted_passwd_here:123456:654321:MyName:/my/home/directory:/bin/tcsh On the libc6 (2.7-18lenny2) system: username:x:123456:654321:MyName:/my/home/directory:/bin/tcsh That does seem to be what is causing my problems... - Do you have more info the client system logs? Not really, the only thing I see is just: Jan 27 06:53:45 hostname su[31991]: pam_authenticate: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info Jan 27 06:53:45 hostname su[31991]: FAILED su for testuser2 by testuser1 Jan 27 06:53:45 hostname su[31991]: - pts/1 testuser1:testuser2 If you know of any way of getting more debug info from PAM, let me know and I'll run more tests. Bug#537434: man zshall does not always show all the man mages
reassign 537434 man-db retitle 537434 man zshall does not always show all the man pages (bug in decompress_open) thanks I've done some analysis with strace. The problem is that in zsoelim.c, man sometimes tries to open man1/zshxxx.1 instead of the .gz version. The reason is a bug in decompress_open() from lib/decompress.c (the function sometimes returns a non-null pointer value, though stat() failed). The code contains: if (stat (filename, st) 0 !S_ISDIR (st.st_mode)) return NULL; But if stat() fails, st may not have been filled in, so that the test !S_ISDIR (st.st_mode) makes no sense. Shouldn't this be: if (stat (filename, st) 0 || S_ISDIR (st.st_mode)) return NULL; i.e. if the file doesn't exist or is a directory, one returns a null pointer? -- Vincent Lefèvre vinc...@vinc17.net - Web: http://www.vinc17.net/ 100% accessible validated (X)HTML - Blog: http://www.vinc17.net/blog/ Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / Arénaire project (LIP, ENS-Lyon) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. At least I cannot come up with a way the rx thread would fall over if the connection is being shut down. Noted to look more closely. One I've been working on is remote access to hardware security modules from within virtual machines. What could possibly go wrong?! Heh, ;-) In terms of security, surprisingly little in fact. Those devices treat the transport as untrusted and use a secure channel on top of USB for authentication and privacy. There are still limitations that make it unsuitable for less specialized setups. Device reconnects are not handeled transparently yet, for example. Other limitations lie in the usbip userspace tools, the most important probably being the lack of authorization for access to the usbip daemon. Apparently there are some serious problems with the protocol too. The impression I got out of the discussion was that it is too limited and underdocumented, but not fundamentally flawed. Hope that gives you a basis for deciding about whether to include it or keep it separate. OK, I suppose 'staging' is probably a big enough warning label. I think we can enable this for x86. Please look for out bug reports. OK, will do. Please don't hesitate to point out if I miss something in the high volume of bug reports. I'll do my best to look into problems when I notice them. Bug#566844: libc6 causing Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info
root a écrit : Is more information needed from me? Or is there anything I can do to expedite this bug fix? I've got 138 machines in an unstable state because I can't do updates on them because of this libc6 issue. If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. I have to say I am out of idea. I am only able to reproduce the behaviour you observed when using adjunct passwords (this is actually what the security issue fixed), but at the same time you told me you are not using adjunct passwords. On Wed, 27 Jan 2010, root wrote: On Mon, 25 Jan 2010, Aurelien Jarno wrote: On Mon, Jan 25, 2010 at 09:08:08AM -0500, root wrote: Package: libc6 Version: 2.7-18 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software I'm running Debian Lenny with a stock 2.6.26-2 AMD64 kernel, and after upgrading any of my systems to use the latest libc6 package from debian-security (2.7-18lenny2), all of my systems that use NIS can no longer authenticate. After that I disabled 'Intel(R) C-STATE Tech' in the BIOS, and now debsums did not produce any random failure for several times and the system is still running. dmesg output when loading processor with enabled 'Intel(R) C-STATE Tech': [ 476.918852] ACPI: SSDT cff880d0 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P001Ist 0011 INTL 20060113) [ 476.919311] ACPI: SSDT cff889d0 004B2 (v01 PmRef P001Cst 3001 INTL 20060113) [ 476.919855] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-1 state [ 476.919874] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-2 state [ 476.919888] Monitor-Mwait will be used to enter C-3 state [ 476.919892] Marking TSC unstable due to TSC halts in idle [ 476.919982] processor LNXCPU:00: registered as cooling_device0 [ 476.920367] ACPI: SSDT cff88310 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P002Ist 0012 INTL 20060113) [ 476.920707] ACPI: SSDT cff88e90 00085 (v01 PmRef P002Cst 3000 INTL 20060113) [ 476.921274] Switching to clocksource hpet [ 476.921434] processor LNXCPU:01: registered as cooling_device1 [ 476.921824] ACPI: SSDT cff88550 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P003Ist 0012 INTL 20060113) [ 476.922172] ACPI: SSDT cff88f20 00085 (v01 PmRef P003Cst 3000 INTL 20060113) [ 476.922866] processor LNXCPU:02: registered as cooling_device2 [ 476.923252] ACPI: SSDT cff88790 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P004Ist 0012 INTL 20060113) [ 476.923608] ACPI: SSDT cff88fb0 00085 (v01 PmRef P004Cst 3000 INTL 20060113) [ 476.924277] processor LNXCPU:03: registered as cooling_device3 with disabled 'Intel(R) C-STATE Tech': [9.440094] ACPI: SSDT cff880d0 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P001Ist 0011 INTL 20060113) [9.440625] processor LNXCPU:00: registered as cooling_device0 [9.441014] ACPI: SSDT cff88310 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P002Ist 0012 INTL 20060113) [9.441511] processor LNXCPU:01: registered as cooling_device1 [9.441888] ACPI: SSDT cff88550 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P003Ist 0012 INTL 20060113) [9.442394] processor LNXCPU:02: registered as cooling_device2 [9.442778] ACPI: SSDT cff88790 00235 (v01 DpgPmm P004Ist 0012 INTL 20060113) [9.443276] processor LNXCPU:03: registered as cooling_device3 Also, BIOS tells that this setting enables/disables C2/C3/C4 states, while dmesg tells about C-1/C-2/C-3. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#569337: xserver-xorg-input-tslib: xset q crashes X server
Hello Timo, Thanks for reporting and debugging this issue. I have just adopted the package but I still need to setup a test environment and else. Anyway, could you please rebuild and test with the following patch which basically has two upstream patches which fixes: From: Grazvydas Ignotas nota...@gmail.com at least xserver 1.7.4 crashes on XGetPointerControl request because of xf86-input-tslib: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. #0 0x000355e0 in ProcGetPointerControl (client=0x4a2e58) at devices.c:2122 #1 0x00062fa8 in Dispatch () at dispatch.c:439 #2 0x00022444 in main (argc=4, argv=0xbeebedc4, envp=0xbeebedd8) at main.c:285 This happens because ptrfeed field is not set in device structure from tslib. To fix this, call InitPtrFeedbackClassDeviceStruct() during DEVICE_INIT to get necessary setup done (as done in other input drivers). -- From: Stanislav Brabec sbra...@suse.cz Subject: xf86-input-tslib-0.0.6 crash fix with xorg-server-1.7.3 Here is a fix for crash of xf86-input-tslib-0.0.6 with xorg-server-1.7.3 that should be backward compatible. xorg-server-1.7.3/hw/xfree86/common/xf86Helper.c contains this code causing a double free crash on chvt or exit: /* This should *really* be handled in drv-UnInit(dev) call instead, but * if the driver forgets about it make sure we free it or at least crash * with flying colors */ if (pInp-private) xfree(pInp-private); PATCH: Index: src/tslib.c === --- src/tslib.c (revision 46) +++ src/tslib.c (revision 48) @@ -103,8 +103,6 @@ static void PointerControlProc(DeviceIntPtr dev, PtrCtrl * ctrl) { - ErrorF(%s\n, __FUNCTION__); - return; } static Bool @@ -406,6 +404,8 @@ xf86MotionHistoryAllocate(pInfo); #endif + if (!InitPtrFeedbackClassDeviceStruct(device, PointerControlProc)) + return !Success; break; case DEVICE_ON: @@ -435,6 +435,7 @@ xf86TslibControlProc(pInfo-dev, DEVICE_OFF); ts_close(priv-ts); xfree(pInfo-private); + pInfo-private = NULL; xf86DeleteInput(pInfo, 0); } Cheers, -- Héctor Orón Our Sun unleashes tremendous flares expelling hot gas into the Solar System, which one day will disconnect us. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#568416: Put in upstream (Was: Re: 64-bit kernel/32-bit userland boot failure)
On Fri, 2010-02-12 at 09:52 -0200, Claudio F Filho wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi I am a newbie debian user, that some times play (or try) to compile the kernel and when i saw this bug, i tried some times to build a pkg based in the vanilla 2.6.32.8. As i have a macbook v2, with gpu Intel 945GM, i saw many errors in the X and not understand why?!... Looking the changelog, i saw some bugs about the i915 driver (apg, drm, etc), present in the diff, but not in the vanilla code. So, my question is if are bugs in kernel, why this patches aren't present in the next vanilla pkg at kernel.org? Please, i ask because i really wish to understand if we have some problem @ kernel.org. Almost all our bug fixes are included in stable releases via kernel.org. When a patch that we apply is incorporated into an upstream stable update, we revert our patch before applying the stable update. However, we leave our patch in the source package until we switch to a new upstream version. This is because the Debian Installer kernel packages are not always in sync with the ordinary kernel packages, and we still need to provide full source for them.
