Thank you for taking the time to make a bug report. However, in this
case I'm afraid this is not enough information for us to begin to know
what behaviour you are seeing.

Can you please give specific steps to reproduce the situation, the
behaviour you expected, and the behaviour you actually see?

For example, you might write something like:

=
Steps to reproduce:

* Start the program by typing ‘file-roller’.

* Select the “File” → “Open” menu option.

  * The “Open” dialogue box appears.

* Select the “Cancel” button.

  * The program hangs, refusing all input.

Expected behaviour:

* The “Open” dialogue box should disappear.

* The program should continue to respond to input.
=

Obviously your situation will be different from that example, so you
would write something different. The more detail you can give about
how you reproduce the problem, the better the maintainer can respond.

Thank you in advance.

Bug#571808: gdm does not disable input method

2010-02-28 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.10-1
Severity: normal

After I upgraded to squeeze, I realize gdm login dialogue get input via
scim. Since scim state is invisible, this is not desiarable.

My current SCIM setup send data to application via XIM.

(I now have to disable SCIM by CTRL-SPACE which toggle SCIM mode.)

I think lenny gdm did not read input via SCIM by some trick, I guess.

My current input method set up are:

package file-roller
retitle 525106 file-roller: doesn't respond to cancel request from Nautilus

On 22-Apr-2009, Jon Dowland wrote:
 I've just accidentally dragged a file ontop of an archive (whilst

 least.

 Eventually (20 seconds or so later) the popup disappears

I tested this using version 2.28.2-1 of ‘file-roller’, version
2.28.4-1 of ‘nautilus’.

I don't get the reported error message. However, the main reported
behaviour (the cancel button has no effect) I managed to reproduce
following these steps:

=
Script started on Sun 28 Feb 2010 18:45:06 EST
$ workdir=$(mktemp -t -d)

$ tarfile=${workdir}/test.tar
$ tar -cf ${tarfile} /dev/null

$ nautilus ${workdir}
[… Within the resulting Nautilus window:

* Drag the entry ‘foo’ onto the entry ‘test.tar’.

  * A dialogue box appears titled “Adding files to archive”, with a
progress bar.

  * The progress bar jumps to 50% and stays there.

* While the dialogue box remains, select the “Cancel” button.

  * The button has no apparent effect.

  * Eventually, the dialogue box disappears.

* Close the Nautilus window.
…]

$ ls ${tarfile}
/tmp/tmp.yQtpbG0iqH/test.tar

$ tar -tvf ${tarfile}

$ rm -rf ${workdir}

$ exit

Script done on Sun 28 Feb 2010 18:53:37 EST
=

Instead, selecting “Cancel” in Nautilus's “Adding files to archive”
dialogue box should cancel the operation, leaving the archive in its
original state.

Bug#571811: digikam: Very slow on writing metadata to images

2010-02-28 Thread Michael Holtermann
Package: digikam
Version: 2:1.1.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

at the moment, digikam is very slow on writing metadata to images.

I select round about 20 JPGs between 3 and 7 MB, modify the description and
click apply. The update of the internal DB is fast, but the following write
opration to the files is very, very slow, up to 5 minutes.

I'm not sure when this issue occured the first time, a few weeks ago everything
run fine.

There's an open Bug at KDE: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=218633. I'm
unsure if this is the same issue. I've deselected update modification time
with no result.

iotop doesn't show any unusual, 0 B/s write and read. top reports digikam at
100% CPU.

If you need any additional information, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Michael

Bug#571814: gimp-plugin-registry: Please add XMC (X11 Mouse Cursor) plugin

2010-02-28 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: gimp-plugin-registry
Version: 2.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

as mentioned on IRC, it would be very nice to be able to deal with X11
cursors, with at least *something* in Debian. :)

The XMC plugin made it possible for me to at least display those cursors
within Gimp, which is very nice already, but is also said to be able to
both import and export them.

Some background:
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2010/02/msg00780.html

I grabbed this plugin from:

http://gimpstuff.org/content/show.php/X11+Mouse+Cursor+(XMC)+plug-in?content=94503

Direct tarball link:
  http://gimpstuff.org/CONTENT/content-files/94503-gimp-xmc-plugin-2.0.6.tar.gz

Thanks for considering!

(You may want to stop talking about Gimp 2.3 in README.Debian by the
way.)

Mraw,
KiBi.

Thank you for writing a bug report. However, you have reported a bug
in an Ubuntu package; this is an existing, separate bug report in the
Debian bug tracking system discussing entirely different behaviour.

You should first report the problem to the Ubuntu bug tracking system.
If you can determine that you have found an unreported problem in the
Debian version of a package, feel free to file a new report.

Bug#571722: [libstreamanalyzer0] Always segfaults in gzipendanalyzer

2010-02-28 Thread Peter Fritzsche
Peter Fritzsche wrote:

 I tried to get more information for #571721 directly from strigi-daemon,
  but it only crashes somewhere else without any further information which
  file was the problem.

I did some tests with xmlindexer -j 1 and noticed that it only happens when
having two compressed files after each other. One is called s.tar.lzma and the
other one u.tar.bz2. They contain both nearly the same content (customized
debian based usermode linux root image and some scripts to use it). It crashes
when the bz2 is indexed after the lzma, but _not_ when the lzma is scanned
after the bz2.

So I duplicated the lzma and the bz2 in two different paths and started to
scan them again. Two lzmas didn't cause a crash, but two bz2 crashed.

Next step I recompressed the lzma tarball to bz2 and tried again. It didn't
crashed everything as expected. So decompressed the old bz2 and recompressed
again as bz2. This recompressed u.tar.bz2 and the u2.tar.bz2 still created the
crash. Next idea is to use the uncompressed tar u.tar and u2.tar. This time
the same crash happened - ok, the backtrace looks a little bit different:

So, I uncompressed u and u2 and checked again. This time it didn't crash.
So my I would guess that it is related to the tarball. I am a little bit
clueless how to proceed further.

So played a little bit more around and decompressed the tarball with
tar xvfSp (as root) and recompressed everything as tar xvfSp (as root).
This time it started to crash again. So I removed the biggest file in the
tarball (root.img) and then recompressed it and copied it to u2.tar this
time it didn't crash anymore. So it is probably related to the root.img.
So removed the new tarballs and decompressed the old u.tar, removed everything
but the root.img, recompressed and duplicated u.tar. This time it crashed
again. So the biggest file it the problem which is quite problematic
when I want to attach it to a bug report - next test is to reduce the
size of the root.img, but first a check if the crash is related to the
Sparse tarball by rewriting the file with `dd if=root.img of=root2.img` and
then renaming it from root2.img to root.img). This time it didn't crashed
So checking it again by copying it back using
 `cp --sparse=always root2.img root.img; rm root2.img`.

It crashed again. So it is maybe possible to reduce the size of the image.

Did it with following script:
rm -f *.tar
sudo tar xvfSp ../u.tar
cd umlnetwork
dd if=root.img of=root2.img skip=78438 count=203706
cp --sparse=always root2.img root.img
rm root2.img
cd ..
sudo tar cvfSp u.tar umlnetwork
rm -rf umlnetwork
cp u.tar u2.tar
xmlindexer  -j 1

I did some tests and i cannot reproduce the bug all the time. Sometimes
it runs without any problems and sometimes it crashes.

I think it crashed more often with the large archive, but I
dont have enough webspace to upload the large version. Just download
it in a new directory using

wget http: // mitglied.multimania .de/ robertwohlrab/u.tar.xz # remove the
whitespaces - otherwise the spamfilter didn't
accept the mail
unxz u.tar.xz
cp u.tar u2.tar
xmlindexer -j 1 # had to run ~5 times before i got the first crash

I couldn't reproduce the crash when I started it with valgrind (also not
with the big file).

 keep nfs-kernel-server version 1.2.0-4.1 pinned on my server, since

 (1.2.1-3) is broken.

I have just tried plain upstream versions:

- 1.2.0: crossmount works fine
- 1.2.1: broken
- 1.2.2: broken

As such, this seems to be a regression in upstream behaviour. My possibly wrong
investigations trace it to upstream commit
bc0a6ab03089fc1ea4fea26ed9635c2cc918b01b, which should fix some problems with
crossmnt and fsid; however, it seems to uncover other issues. Reverting the
write_secinfo changes in this patch make 1.2.1 work again (but I get then the
1.2.0 message of qword_eol: fflush failed).

I'll forward this upstream.

 references to this problem in Google (the solution for Debian was
 taken from the Internet too). This fully corresponds to the value of
 this tags: http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#tags
You mean like the one described in README.Debian:

External Commands
^
Nagios 3 is not configured to look for external commands in the
default configuration as a security feature. To enable external
commands, you need to allow the web server write access to the
nagios command pipe. the simplest way of doing this is to
set check_external_commands=1 in your nagios configuration,
and then change the permissions in a way which will be maintained
across package upgrades (otherwise dpkg will overwrite your
permission changes). The following is the recommended approach:

- activate external command checks in the nagios configuration. this
  can be done by setting check_external_commands=1 in the file
  /etc/nagios3/nagios.cfg.

- perform the following commands to change directory permissions and
  to make the changes permanent:

/etc/init.d/nagios3 stop
dpkg-statoverride --update --add nagios www-data 2710 /var/lib/nagios3/rw
dpkg-statoverride --update --add nagios nagios 751 /var/lib/nagios3
/etc/init.d/nagios3 start

This is done by intention and will not fixed. See also #538828 for more
informations.

Thanks a lot for this.

However, having added the API reference to the python library package
now makes the package 12 Mb larger. This is fine for my personal use
case (I would have installed the API doc anyhow), but it is probably too
large for normal installations where -gdata is just a needed dependency.

Can you please split a separate python-gdata-doc binary package?

After sending my reply, I upgraded my box and noticed that a new
version of xserver-xorg-core has just migrated from unstable to testing
(along with a new version of libc6, among other things).

I performed the upgrade, exited from X, restarted everything that was
pointed out by checkrestart, started a new X session and retested grace.

Unfortunately, I am still able to reproduce the bug! :-(

Now:

$ dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg-core | cut -c 1-60

Bug#571821: jackd: Memory locking defaults to unlimited

2010-02-28 Thread Michael Andritschke
Package: jackd
Version: 0.118+svn3796-2
Severity: normal

The following message appears when starting jackd:

Memory locking is unlimited - this is dangerous. You should probably alter the
line:
 @audio   -  memlockunlimited
in your /etc/limits.conf to read:
 @audio   -  memlock3046545

I seem not to have such a file installed. Instead debconf has created
/etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf which contains the given line.
If it wasn't for the fact that my changes there may get lost on the
next update, I would suggest to just fix the notification message.
Where am I supposed to change this setting?

Second, if it is dangerous jackd shouldn't be configured by default
with unlimited memory locking in the first place.

Best regards,
Michael

Bug#567571: ktechlab: FTBFS on GNU/KfreeBSD

2010-02-28 Thread jamego1293

Hello,

I'm sorry about my English, as you can see, I can't express myself very well
in English :-)

I did a dirty patch wich implements (I hope) the pararell port features on
Debian GNU/kFreeBSD, on FreeBSD I have not tried to build the package yet.

Applying this patch the package builds without errors, but I have had some
problems with PPCLAIM and PPRELEASE, I don't know how to implement it.
In some codes I found, PPCLAIM and PPRELEASE are ignored on FreeBSD, so I did
this.

However, the package builds without problems, but the patch
50-define-for-freeBSD.patch should be removed, because the attached patch
replaces it.

Cheers,
Javier

Bug#571776: debian-policy: Libraries should be allowed to not provide shlibs when they provide symbols file

 AFAIK, the current version of dpkg in stable supports symbols files, so I
 think it is time we loosen the requirement for shlibs files when symbols
 files are present.

 Requiring shlibs when there is a symbols file also is error-prone, as when
 the symbols file is updated, the shlibs may not be bumped.

Agreed, but with the caveat that libs shipping an udeb need to keep
their .shlibs file, afaik.

Currently, rabbit Depends: on rdtools-elisp. As I understand it, this package

be able to run fine without this package installed. Please consider downgrading
this dependency, so that emacs can be removed without breaking the rabbit

Hi,

Bug#571823: logrotate: Mistakenly attribute a stderr output

2010-02-28 Thread Sylvain Beucler
Package: logrotate
Version: 3.7.1-5
Severity: normal

I receive this mail weekly:

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
error: error running shared postrotate script for /var/log/apache2/*.log
kill(1420, 12)
signal 12 sent to process 1420
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate exited with return code 1

After much puzzling and investigation, it appears that this output
should be attributed to:
/var/log/zope2.10/*/Z2.log /var/log/zope2.10/*/event.log

Apache is forwarding traffic to zope via mod_proxy, but there's no way
that /etc/logrotate.d/apache2 produces these warnings, since the zope
process is untouched. However those very warnings can be reproduced
by running the postrotate from /etc/logrotate.d/zope2.10 .

The only explanation I have is that logrotate confused itself with the
stderr output origin.

Bug#550920: [epiphany-browser] Web-page specified fonts are being ignored

2010-02-28 Thread Apelete Seketeli
Actually it seems to be trickier than that.
Web pages can't specify their own fonts (as you reported) but the font use is
not a system one, it's a default font chosen by Epiphany instead.
Please try to change you system font and see if the page font always change
accordingly.

Bug#571751: mirrors: mirror.peer1.net wrongfully returns cached information

2010-02-28 Thread Simon Paillard
Thanks Frédéric for your report.

In CC, mirror.peer1.net people.
The complete bug history is available at http://bugs.debian.org/571751

In short,the Last-Modified seen by the CDN/HTTP daemon is not always
consistent with the actual mtime of the file.

On Sat, Feb 27, 2010 at 01:38:50PM -0500, Frédéric Brière wrote:
 Package: mirrors

 mirror.peer1.net sometimes returns cached files that don't mesh with the
 rest of the archive. For example, here's part of an apt-get run:

   GET /debian/dists/sid/Release HTTP/1.1
   If-Modified-Since: Fri, 26 Feb 2010 03:26:20 GMT
[..]
   HTTP/1.1 304 Not Modified
   Date: Sat, 27 Feb 2010 17:12:46 GMT
   Last-Modified: Fri, 26 Feb 2010 03:26:20 GMT
[...]
 But fetching Release manually returns a much newer file:
   Origin: Debian
   Label: Debian
   Suite: unstable
   Codename: sid
   Date: Sat, 27 Feb 2010 03:07:23 UTC
   [...]

 The contents of the archive matches this new version, and apt-get
 obviously complains when the various files don't correspond to their
 previous checksum.

I cannot reproduce today, whatever is the peer1 backend.
Indeed, the Last-modified of the file is the one expected 28 Feb 2010 03:20:45
GMT and
the HTTP code returned is the one expected (i.e. 200 OK with
If-Modified-Since is before this date, 304 Not Modified if after this
date).

for ip in $(dig +short mirror.peer1.net);
do echo $ip ;
wget -O /dev/null -S --header=Host: mirror.peer1.net  \
--header=If-Modified-Since: Fri, 28 Feb 2010 03:26:20 GMT \

 Beside the proxy configuration for apt you should also use the following

Hey guys, I added experimental code which should make this workarounds
unneccessary. Please test the version from

the Acquire::http::Proxy::bugs.debian.org removed, of course). Some
notes about the new (optional) config option are in acng.conf.

Bug#571304: apt keeps trying to add packages that not selected for installation

2010-02-28 Thread Mark Hobley
 Do you use the same settings in testing vs. etch ?
 (or do you mean lenny? etch is oldstable)

Oops! Sorry. I meant Lenny.

 Could you post the complete command you tried?

I was actually running it through dselect.

I would first select:

1: (U)pdate list of available packages

followed by:

3: (I)nstall and upgrade wanted packages

This would keep adding those packages to the list.

 It would be also helpful to run apt with a few debug
 options:
 Add to your apt-get command the following:
 -s -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=1 -o
 Debug::pkgDepCache::Marker=1 -o
 Debug::pkgDepCache::AutoInstall=1

Right. I will have a look at those.

Bug#571741: tested with 2.6.32-3

2010-02-28 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan
Ok, I have started testing this new 2.6.32 and did a little bit better but I
think this was only luck, nothing else.

I could log on and saw this on dmesg:

[  396.756554] Restarting tasks ...
[  396.757030] klogd[1194]: segfault at cc9cd400 ip 7fe87ebb3c02 sp

[  397.448046] [drm] TV-14: set mode NTSC 480i 0

This kind of corruption tends to happen more likely if I have more ram used,
I mean, if I only load my Xwindow environment (icewm and a couple of terms)
it doesn't happen or happens only from time to time, but if I load iceweasel
and pidgin it starts to happen almost all the time.

Just a note so that you see how badly the system is right now... I just did
this on a terminal:

Signal 11 (SEGV) caught by ps (procps version 3.2.8).
Please send bug reports to feedb...@lists.sf.net or alb...@users.sf.net

Hope that helps.

Bug#562748: Bug also found in newer version of network-manager

2010-02-28 Thread Jeroen Dekkers
found 562748 0.7.999-3
found 562748 0.8-1
retitle 562748 NetworkManager with disabled ifupdown plugin doesn't work
correctly anymore
thanks

I just tried the newer NetworkManager packages in testing and unstable
and hit the same problem. The problem is that it changed the hostname
of the system (resulting in X not working anymore):

Feb 28 10:55:05 runge NetworkManager: info Setting system hostname to
'dhcppc0' (from DHCP)

Other than that, it also changes /etc/hosts by adding that hostname to
127.0.0.1, resulting in that the reverse DNS of 127.0.0.1 is dhcppc0
instead of localhost:

127.0.0.1   dhcppc0 localhost.localdomain   localhost

I'm really wondering how someone can think that letting NetworkManager
change these things can ever be a good thing. Anyway, I started to
look why this happens on my system and not on other systems. It turns
out that the problem is that I disabled the ifupdown module in the
past, when I enable it again in
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf all problems go away.

Bug#571924: kdebindings not binNMUable

2010-02-28 Thread Holger Levsen
package: kdebindings
severity: serious
version: 4:4.3.4-1+b1

Hi,

the kdebindings 4:4.3.4-1+b1 binNMU produced an interesting depends:
python-sip4 (= none), python-sip4 ( none+~)

This breaks the piuparts dependency parser, and i guess it will break other
stuff as well. Due to this bug I had to completly disable testing of sid on
piuparts.debian.org.
edos.debian.net hasnt been updated since a week, but I assume its a likely
candidate.

Filing this as serious as the resulting relationships are a severe violation
of policy. #571695 has been filed to make dak prevent such packages entering
the archive. Setting the version to the binNMU to prevent the binNMU packages
to enter testing.

Holger

Bug#571926: popularity-contest: popcon doesn't track usage of python modules in a consistent manner

2010-02-28 Thread Stuart Prescott
Package: popularity-contest
Version: 1.46
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

popcon currently uses the regexp:

  m{/bin/|/sbin/|/lib/.+/|^/usr/games/|\.[ah]$|\.pm$|\.php$|^/boot/System\.map-}

to detemine if the atime/ctime etc for a file should be checked in order to
decide if the package has been used recently.

This means that a python module that has no C extensions (i.e. a collection
of .py files only in /usr/share/pyshared) always shows up as being nofiles,
whereas a python module that has a C extension and so installs .so files into
/usr/lib/pyshared/python2.X/package/ will report recent usage etc.

Given the explicit inclusion of .pm files to indicate usage of perl modules
and .php to pick up php snippets/modules/scripts/whatever, it would seem more
useful to collect python data in a similar fashion. That the data for a python
module also depends on whether or not it has a C module or not (something that
is entirely opaque to the end user!) is also a bit odd.

Perhaps add |\.py$ to that regexp?

cheers
Stuart

Bug#571927: enna-theme has circular Depends on enna

2010-02-28 Thread Bill Allombert
Package: enna-theme
Version: 0.4.0-2
Severity: important

Hello Davide,

There is a circular dependency between enna-theme and enna:

enna-theme  :Depends: enna (= 0.4.0-2)
enna:Depends: enna-theme (= 0.4.0-2)

Circular dependencies are known to cause problems during upgrade,
so we should try to get rid of them.

Since enna-theme is a data package, it is quite likely it does not need
actually to depend on enna and removing this dependency would
remove the circular dependency, so I would suggest you do so.

Bug#571929: desktopcouch: circular dependency hell

Hello David,

There is a circular dependency between desktopcouch, python-desktopcouch and
python-desktopcouch-records:

python-desktopcouch :Depends: desktopcouch

Circular dependencies are known to cause problems during upgrade, so we
should try to get rid of them.

In this case, the three package are arch:all and come from the same

three packages if the user is required to install all of them

Bug#372108: stopping gdm garbles console fonts

2010-02-28 Thread Julien Cristau
tag 372108 moreinfo
kthxbye

Hi Teemu,

a while ago you reported the following bug against gdm in Debian:

On Thu, Jun 8, 2006 at 11:56:13 +0200, Teemu Ikonen wrote:

 If I stop gdm (by /etc/init.d/gdm stop) in my TiBook III G4 Powerbook, the
 console fonts become garbled and unreadable. Reloading the console font with
 consolechars does not help, but starting gdm again fixes them.

 If I start X with startx and exit, the fonts are fine.

 This bug was present even before the recent Xorg upgrade in etch, but the
 new Xorg did not fix it.

Can you still reproduce this with recent gdm and X? If so, please
attach your X log so we have a bit more information. Thanks!

Cheers,
Julien

Hi,

If at all, this would be a bug in the 3.2 version. 3.1.1-16 is unfixable
anyway. (and in -report-builder, as that is what apt complains about,
not -java-common)

 In trying to bring in the 3.2 version, I received the following:

 E: Couldn't configure pre-depend openoffice.org-java-common for
 openoffice.org-report-builder, probably a dependency cycle.

Yeah, I know..

 In submitting this report, I was first presented with more than 1
 screenful of advice on submitting bugs about OpenOffice.org
 bugs. It really looks like you never want to receive bug reports
 on OpenOffice.org packages.  [...]

No, I don't want bugs which are obviously bpgus or are wishes against
upstream which I won't fo anything about except forwarding upstream.
I also don't want a sitload of upstream bugs here I won't fix anyway
but forward upstream. That has notihing do do with not wanting to have
bug reports.

 This problem looks entirely involved with Debian packaging, [...]

No one denied that.

 but I won't ever submit a bug about openoffice.org
 to Debian after reading all that stuff. I'll just wait for updates
 quietly.

Bad. Do you really think with haveing a loads of useless bugs here would
help quality? No, In contast it would just waste time for the *1* packager
of this beast to handle them instead of doing valuable work.

Anyway, to the bug:
This is not completely fixable. The Depends: are correct for -report-builder.
I of course can remove the Ore-Depends: (which would make the Depends icorrect)
but then you still wouldn't have a proper upgrade of -report-builder.
(Apt will just happily remove it and not reinstall it again)

Do the upgrade without -preort-builder and then install it again is the
sanest workaround for now (but I have no illusion that you won't follow
it given your rant about trying to keep the BTS in a maintainable state)

Bug#570913: guessnet: uninstallable on sid i386 for lack of libiw29. Should it be libiw30 ?

 I think it depends on libiw30 on other architecture(s).
 For sid i386 libiw30 is available.
 May there be some mistake in the package dependencies ?

It just build-depends on libiw-dev. At the time of build, it resulted in
a dependency of libiw29, but now that has switched to libiw30. It just
needs a package rebuild to get it fixed, and since I'm going to upload a
new version, that should happen soon.

 Thanks a lot. Guessnet has been very useful for me.

Bug#571926: popularity-contest: popcon doesn't track usage of python modules in a consistent manner

On Sun, Feb 28, 2010 at 11:40:24AM +, Stuart Prescott wrote:

 Hi!

 popcon currently uses the regexp:

 m{/bin/|/sbin/|/lib/.+/|^/usr/games/|\.[ah]$|\.pm$|\.php$|^/boot/System\.map-}

 to detemine if the atime/ctime etc for a file should be checked in order to
 decide if the package has been used recently.

 Perhaps add |\.py$ to that regexp?

We cannot do that because the .py files are read by the python compiler at
package installation time to generate the .pyc file, and never after, so the
atime of the .py file is useless (it is always equal to the installation time).

See also bug #265360.

Bug#571754: strftime(%c) crashes in (some) locations

Hash: SHA512

Hi,

Am So den 28. Feb 2010 um 10:39 schrieb Aurelien Jarno:
 setlocale(LC_ALL, de_DE);
 tm = localtime(NULL);

 This is wrong. localtime() doesn't accept a NULL pointer. You should
 call time(NULL), and pass the result to localtime().

Might be but this isn't the line where it crashes. Also it work's very
well filling the tm struct.

Note that the crash happens in the next line:
 strftime(time, sizeof(time), %c, tm);

but only if the locale is set. This test program is only to demonstrate
the error in strftime, in the original program I get the value for tm
from other places (strptime).

But however, when rewriting the line to tm = localtime(time(NULL)); I
get a compile error as there is no such function called time. Maybe
there is something really wrong with the eglibc?

Ah, and why is that bug closed? Did you ever try to compile the test
program? Did you ever try to reproduce the bug? Did you???

Please do not try to find typos in places were no bug is and check the
real bug source (strftime and NOT localtime, which was added by me only
for having a tm struct to test with).

So please be not that ignorant. I have a pretty high opinion of debian.
Please don't destroy that!

This is because dpkg-statoverride is call both at removal and purging and
because user and group are already deleted after removal it can't find them.

Attached is a small patch that should fix the issue. It shouldn't eat any
children but comments are appreciated.

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your packages cronjob produce output
after the package has been removed.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

Description: Simple Asynchronous File Transfer
 Sendfile is an asynchronous file transfer service for the Internet,
 like the sendfile facility in Bitnet: Any user A can send files to
 another user B without B being active in any way.
 .
 The existing standard file transfer (ftp) is a synchronous service:
 The user must have access to an account on the sending and on the
 receiving site, too.
 .
 Sendfile for Unix, which is an implementation of the SAFT protocol
 (Simple Asynchronous File Transfer) now offers you a true
 asynchronous file transfer service for the Internet. Virtually any
 form of file can be sent, including encrypted ones. The SAFT
 protocol will be submitted as an RFC in the near future.

Bug#571754: strftime(%c) crashes in (some) locations

2010-02-28 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

But however, lets modify the program slightly to be constructive:
- ---
#define _XOPEN_SOURCE
#include stdio.h
#include time.h
#include locale.h

int main(int argc, char **argv)
{
   char time[255];
   struct tm tm;

   setlocale(LC_ALL, de_DE);
   strptime(2001-11-12 18:31:01, %Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S, tm);

   strftime(time, sizeof(time), %c, tm);
   fprintf(stdout, %s\n, time);
} // int main(int argc, char **argv...
- ---

Now it should be ok for you too. (See, it is nearly the same than the
example in the man page!)

Regards
   Klaus
