Bug#576889: first time unfriendly
All I know is that gkrellm ends up on what a .icewm/preferences file WorkspaceNames = 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 would call WorkspaceNames 2. (Though my file just has WorkspaceNames= as I never use any workspace other than the first one, so am surprised that gkrellm decides that it wants to go to its own workspace. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#577479: sat4j depends on the specific default-jre-headless rather than a virtual package
Package: sat4j Version: 2.1.1-2 sat4j depends specifically on the default-jre-headless, and build-depends specifically on default-jdk. It should really use virtual packages, since people should be able to use whichever jdk/jre they want. For standard depends I agree, virtual packages should be used. I propose depending on java6-runtime-headless, a virtual package provided by default-jre-headless, openjdk-6-jre-headless, and sun-java6-jre, and build-depending on java6-sdk, a virtual package provided by default-jdk, openjdk-6-jdk, and sun-java6-jdk. This bug was originally reported in Ubuntu, see launchpad at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sat4j/+bug/511303 where there is also a proposed patch, which may have issues. Ubuntu release team member Benjamin Drung believes that a package should not build-depend on a virtual package, but wants to see what the Debian maintainer thinks. Build-Depends with virtual packages are ok, if a real package is listed as well; but the same holds true for Depends: as well. I'll look into this right away, taking into account all the information the Ubuntu team kindly provided. Best, Michael pgpMVvnsHKfkB.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#493485: libxcb1 needs better short description
Hi Barry, Barry deFreese bddeb...@comcast.net (02/08/2008): The short description for libxcb1 is not very informative and I believe also not policy compliant. while I would tend to agree in the general case, I think libxcb* packages are quite specific and either pulled directly by packages depending on it, in which case users don't care about them; or by developers who need its -dev packages, in which case they probably know what they're doing. Perhaps: library to support C bindings for X Windows or something similar? That'd be “X Window System”; anyway, thanks for the suggestion, but that seems rather convoluted. I'll wait a bit for comaintainer feedback, but I guess I'm going to -done or +wontfix this bug. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I disagree that sweeping a serious policy violation under the carpet (and preventing co-installation of mpd and mpich in the process) can be qualified with 'best' anything. So what do you propose? Talk to the other package maintainer (and possibly upstreams). Rename one or both binaries. (Why did you file the bug against mpich2 only, then?) Pavan, we have a problem: the Music Player Daemon already uses the mpd binary name in Debian. I initially solved that by conflicting with the mpd package, so both don't get installed together, but Julien Cristau is now complaining that this isn't a correct solution. It seems that the correct solution would be to rename the mpd binary to something else in Debian. Which sucks because: (1) it will confuse users. However, we can hope that most users are controlling mpd with the mpd* commands. (2) it is currently hard to change the name of the mpd binary in mpich2 (it is an hard assumption in mpd* that it is called mpd, and not something else). What do you think we should do? I would like a solution to this to be found between the Ubuntu Lucid hard freeze (Apr 26th) since I don't want users of Ubuntu Lucid and Debian Squeeze to have a different behaviour for something so important. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | lu...@lucas-nussbaum.net http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: lu...@nussbaum.fr GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#388250: synaptic: menu entry for showing copyright file / keyboard shortcuts
unarchive 388250 reopen 388250 found 388250 0.63.1 tags 388250 + patch thanks Dear synaptic developers, some five years ago I opened a wishlist bug against synaptic asking for a keyboard shortcut for Download Changelog and another menu entry allowing for Download Copyright. Because the bug report covered two different issues, it has been closed shortly after with my consent. Now I found this report again and created patches for it that I kindly ask you to integrate into synaptic. (1) In the main menu there is an entry called Package / Download Changelog. It would be nice to also have another entry called Download Copyright, which will show the copyright file. This is extremely interesting for new packages in non-free/contrib and in all cases when you want to know what the heck you are downloading at all. ;) This is covered by download-copyright-file.patch. I have introduced another menu entry Download Copyright File next to Download Changelog and reuse most of the code that is currently used to retrieve the changelog file. This even becomes visible in the actual text view window itself, when the following text is still introduced as the most current changelog, although the copyright file is shown. But, hey, at least it's a starting point. ;) While we are at it, I introduced Y as an accelerator key for this menu entry. (2) Could you please introduce a keyboard shortcut for the Show Changelog function? A suggestion would be F5 or similar. If you decide to add the Show Copyright function, a keyboard shortcut for this (maybe F6) would be nice, too. This issue is covered by changelog-accelerator.patch. It introduces L as an accelerator key for the Download Changelog function (I have checked that it was not assigned so far). That's all. I am going to split this bug as soon as I got feedback from you and are able to estimate changes if one or both patches get applied. Bug#569778: is this still an issue?
Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver in sid (also newer kernel and mesa)? (make sure you have libdrm-radeon1, firmware-linux-nonfree and firmware-linux installed). If problem persists, could you try getting 2.6.33 from experimental. Also try enabling Kernel modesetting. add *radeon*to /etc/modules and put *options radeon modeset=1* in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you might need to create the file). Report back! Andres

Bug#572011: it's been more than month, is this still a problem?
Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver in sid (also newer kernel and mesa)? (make sure you upgrade libdrm-radeon1, firmware-linux-nonfree and firmware-linux). If problem persists, could you try getting newer 2.6.33 from experimental. When enabling Kernel modesetting, add *radeon* to /etc/modules and put *options radeon modeset=1*in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you might need to create the file). Report back! Andres
Bug#572201: forcedeth driver hangs under heavy load
stephen mulcahy wrote: Now some brave fouls to check the 6410 lines of this driver ? ;) Question of the day : Why TSO is broken in forcedeth ? Is it generically broken or is it broken for specific NICS ? Actually, it is only when tx-checksumming is turned off that the problem doesn't occur (so I'm not sure TSO is the problem). Additionally, a google also turns up this existing Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/506419 which seems to be related. As mentioned in the original Debian bug - I can reproduce this by running Hadoop[1] TeraSort[2] but I haven't identified a simpler reproducer. I tried to recreate this with iperf and ping -f but neither helped - it may be that the problem only occurs when systems are passing large amounts of traffic and have very high cpu utilisation (when running the Hadoop TeraSort all 8 cores run at 70-100% utilisation as measure with htop - I plan to instrument the nodes with something like Zabbix or Ganglia but it hasn't happened yet). -stephen [1] http://hadoop.apache.org/ [2] http://hadoop.apache.org/common/docs/current/api/org/apache/hadoop/examples/terasort/package-summary.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It seems unusable. I'm not using bts regularly, but it would be surprising that bts was completely broken. The part of the script in which this occurs is where we fork/exec the mail process. It basically boils down to: printf tags 407598 - fixed-upstream\nthanks\n | mail -s tagging 407598 -a User-Agent: devscripts bts/2.10.62 cont...@bugs.debian.org Although the above isn't exactly what's happening, does that work? The error message you're getting seems like it may be due to not finding mail, but I'd expect to see more than just No such file or directory. It doesn't work. The output for your test was User-Agent: devscripts bts/2.10.62: No such file or directory This happens because mail is provided by heirloom-mailx, for which -a means: -a file Attach the given file to the message. Interesting. That throws a wrench in the works. Do you know how one would specify extra mail headers using heirloom-mailx? The management of the mailx alternative seems to be broken. If you install/uninstall mailx providers to fix this issue, please pay attention to what happens to mail(1). It broke at some point on the 2 PCs. mailutils may well be the culprit. It provides mail(1) directly in /usr/bin/mail, which is usually an alternative link. This would deserve another bug report. I think /usr/bin/mail disappears sometimes, even when a mailx provider is present. Indeed. That's a bug. Thanks for the information. Bug#577638: mpich2: conflict over the mpd binary
On 13/04/10 at 09:13 -0500, Pavan Balaji wrote: Lucas, On 04/13/2010 08:42 AM, Lucas Nussbaum wrote: [snip] What do you think we should do? I don't have a short-term solution for this, but in the 1.3 series, Hydra is the default process manager instead of mpd. So, by default, there will not be any mpd* installed (it'll still be available for people who want to configure with mpd using --with-pm=mpd). The timeline for releasing 1.3 is late summer unfortunately (1.3a1 is already out). Dear release team, Given that we have a way out of this for after squeeze (switching to hydra as the PM, thus droppping the mpd binary), I'm very tempted to ignore that problem for squeeze (and keep the current solution of conflicting with mpd). Renaming the mpd binary in the mpich2 package is likely to generate a lot more many unsatisfied users than the conflict. It will result in a lot of documentations being changed with ... except if you use Debian, where they thought better and renamed mpd to mpich2-mpd. Additionally, there's no easy way to do the renaming. It could possibly introduce subtle breakages. So, would you consider squeeze-ignor'ing this bug? -- | Lucas Nussbaum | lu...@lucas-nussbaum.net http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: lu...@nussbaum.fr GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#572880: is this still an issue?
Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver in sid (also newer kernel and mesa)? (make sure you upgrade libdrm-radeon1, firmware-linux-nonfree and firmware-linux). If problem persists, could you try getting newer 2.6.33 from experimental. NOTE: When enabling Kernel modesetting, add *radeon* to /etc/modules and put *options radeon modeset=1*in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you might need to create the file). All these things didn't work for my card. If you use NetworkManager, there was a change I made to it that solved all my suspend/hibernation problems. NM has an option called network_sleep. It's disabled by default. I activated it and my laptop was able to correctly suspend and hibernate. What it effectively does, is to disconnect NM before suspending. Report back! Andres
