Bug#576889: first time unfriendly

2010-04-13 Thread jidanni
All I know is that gkrellm ends up on what
a .icewm/preferences file
WorkspaceNames =  1 , 2 , 3 , 4
would call WorkspaceNames 2. (Though my file just has
WorkspaceNames=
as I never use any workspace other than the first one, so am surprised
that gkrellm decides that it wants to go to its own workspace.

Bug#577479: sat4j depends on the specific default-jre-headless rather than a virtual package

2010-04-13 Thread Michael Tautschnig
 Package: sat4j
 Version: 2.1.1-2

sat4j depends specifically on the default-jre-headless, and
build-depends specifically on default-jdk. It should really use virtual
packages, since people should be able to use whichever jdk/jre they
 want.

For standard depends I agree, virtual packages should be used.

I propose depending on java6-runtime-headless, a virtual package
 provided by default-jre-headless, openjdk-6-jre-headless, and
 sun-java6-jre, and build-depending on java6-sdk, a virtual package
 provided by default-jdk, openjdk-6-jdk, and sun-java6-jdk.

This bug was originally reported in Ubuntu, see launchpad at
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sat4j/+bug/511303 where there
is also a proposed patch, which may have issues.

Ubuntu release team member Benjamin Drung believes that a package should
not build-depend on a virtual package, but wants to see what the Debian
 maintainer thinks.

Build-Depends with virtual packages are ok, if a real package is listed as well;
but the same holds true for Depends: as well.

I'll look into this right away, taking into account all the information the
Ubuntu team kindly provided.

Best,
Michael

Bug#572284: cmus: new upstream version (2.3.1)

2010-04-13 Thread Ricardo Mones
Package: cmus
Severity: normal

Hi maintainer,

Seems there's even a new version (2.3.1) for cmus on the upstream download
page: http://cmus.sourceforge.net/#download
Would be nice to have it packaged for Debian, as current comes from three
years ago.

Given current upstream activity a watch file could be useful too :)
Feel free to contact me if you need a sponsor for uploading this update.

Hello,

Quesoglc version 0.7.2 has a bug where it can't load subsitute fonts, which
affects e.g. Warzone 2100's Chinese language settings. It is fixed in the
upstream release-0.7 branch (r911 and r913 iirc), though that hasn't been
released yet.

Bug#577638: mpich2: conflict over the mpd binary

The Conflicts on mpd doesn't change that.

It's indeed very annoying that we have those two different uses of the
mpd name. But there is a lot of documentation on MPI referring to mpd,
and it would be very confusing to change the name of the mpd binary for
users of mpich2.

So, there's no perfect solution, and I think that the current one
(assume that there's no common user of music player daemon and mpich2)
is the best compromise.

Bug#577653: ITP: pidgin-openpgp -- OpenPGP plugin for Pidgin

2010-04-13 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Subject: ITP: pidgin-openpgp -- OpenPGP plugin for Pidgin
Package: wnpp
Owner: Thorsten Glaser t...@mirbsd.de
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pidgin-openpgp
  Version : 0.1
Upstream Author : Michael Braun michael-...@fami-braun.de
* URL : http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/288
* License : GNU GPLv3+
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : OpenPGP plugin for Pidgin

Description: OpenPGP plugin for Pidgin
pidgin-openpgp is a plugin for the Pidgin instant messaging
program which enables it to communicate with Jabber/XMPP peers
in an encrypted manner using the OpenPGP standard and XEP-0027,
which is understood by other clients, such as centericq, gajim,
 kopete and mcabber.
 .
This is an experimental extension and potentially buggy.

I’m packaging this at work for these who still want to use
Pidgin, so that they can exchange PGP/GPG-crypted instant
messages with gajim/kopete/mcabber users.

Upstream seems to be dead. I’ll try hacking on it a little,
but only to the point to keep it usable. Nevertheless, this
works for me™ quite well so far.

Bug#577658: snapshot.debian.org: please provide facility for binpackage only

2010-04-13 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: snapshot.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

Both the web interface and also the /mr/ interface are totally source
package centric. It would be extremely useful if one could go only by
binary package name. This would definitely reduce some confusion of
people knowing the binary package sm but not knowing that it's source
package name is screen-message (as a quick example out of the top of
my head).

 Thanks in advance!

Bug#576994: Bug#577331,Bug#576994: libtime-y2038-perl: FTBFS and perl 5.12

2010-04-13 Thread Hideki Yamane
Hi,

By using perl (= 5.12.0) and perl-modules (= 5.12.0) seems to solve those
FTBFS issues, however it is not in unstable now. It seems to not fit to
release with squeeze or even with sid. So I suggest removing this package from
unstable and put it into experimental until perl 5.12 would come to sid.

Thanks you for your cooperation for squashing bugs.

Bug#577155: update on new events

2010-04-13 Thread Siegfried Gevatter
Thank you for your bug report.

Can you please try running gnome-activity-journal from a terminal,
inserting something into Zeitgeist and maybe deleting an event, and
see if it prints out any errors?

I suspect this to be because of some too old dependency.

Thanks,

Bug#577661: dspam: should this package be removed?

Package: dspam

Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: proposed-removal

Dear Maintainers,

while reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

* last maintainer upload 09/2008
* RC buggy
* outdated
* uploaders not interested or MIA (?)
* not part of squeeze anyways and no solution in sight

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

If you agree that it should be removed, send the following commands to
cont...@bugs.debian.org (replace nn with this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM: packagename -- RoM; reasons
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

If noone replies (which could mean I'm right about maintainers being
MIA), I'll go forward and request the removal on April 30th, 2010.

Thank you,
Hauke
on behalf of Debian QA/MIA

Bug#493485: libxcb1 needs better short description

2010-04-13 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi Barry,

Barry deFreese bddeb...@comcast.net (02/08/2008):
The short description for libxcb1 is not very informative and I
 believe also not policy compliant.

while I would tend to agree in the general case, I think libxcb*
packages are quite specific and either pulled directly by packages
depending on it, in which case users don't care about them; or by
developers who need its -dev packages, in which case they probably
know what they're doing.

Perhaps: library to support C bindings for X Windows or something
 similar?

That'd be “X Window System”; anyway, thanks for the suggestion, but
that seems rather convoluted.

I'll wait a bit for comaintainer feedback, but I guess I'm going to
-done or +wontfix this bug.

Mraw,
KiBi.

On some archs (hppa and sparc at least), there is no O_FSYNC define in
bits/fcntl.h. However, even on these archs, we have this block of defines:

 #ifdef __USE_BSD
 # define FAPPEND  O_APPEND
 # define FFSYNC   O_FSYNC
 # define FASYNC   O_ASYNC
 # define FNONBLOCKO_NONBLOCK
 # define FNDELAY  O_NDELAY
 #endif /* Use BSD.  */

This makes code with an #ifdef FFSYNC do the wrong thing, as FFSYNC
gets literally defined to the string O_FSYNC.

Perhaps we could use O_SYNC instead, since this is defined on both
hppa and sparc.

Description: Computational group theory software with GUI
The MAGNUS computational group theory package is an innovative
symbolic algebra package providing facilities for doing calculations
in and about infinite groups. Almost all symbolic algebra systems
are oriented toward finite computations that are guaranteed to
produce answers, given enough time and resources. By contrast,
MAGNUS is concerned with experiments and computations on infinite
groups which in some cases are known to terminate, while in others are
known to be generally recursively unsolvable.
 .
MAGNUS features an intuitive graphical user interface, facilities for
running different algorithms on the same problem in parallel, generation
of approximations for working on otherwise infeasible problems, genetic
algorithms and a plug-in package manager.

Description: GNU readline and BSD editline wrappers for Java
Included is the Java package org.gnu.readline which provides the GNU
readline and BSD editline libraries for Java. Note that this is NOT a
pure Java implementation; it merely contains JNI wrappers for the standard
 system libraries.
 .
BSD editline resembles GNU readline but is under a more relaxed license.
In some cases it can be used as a drop-in replacement for GNU readline
when licensing issues prevent GNU readline from being used.
 .
The API documentation and examples can be found in the debian package
 libreadline-java-doc.

Please find below a patch to support GNU/kFreeBSD. I don't know how you
plan to deal with architecture specific changes in scripts, so I have
decided to just modify them in this patch. With it I have been able to
get schroot working in plain, directory, block device and loopback modes.
I haven't tested the other modes yet.

Some more explanation about this patch: on FreeBSD, storage devices
appear as character devices, hence the changes in tests for block
 devices.

Fixed on master and schroot-1.4 branches in git. Will be in next upload.
Barring any other issues (I would still appreciate some real testing),
this should be fixed.

(and preventing co-installation of mpd and mpich in the process) can be
   qualified with 'best' anything.

  So what do you propose?

Talk to the other package maintainer (and possibly upstreams). Rename
 one or both binaries.

(Why did you file the bug against mpich2 only, then?)

Pavan, we have a problem: the Music Player Daemon already uses the mpd
binary name in Debian. I initially solved that by conflicting with the
mpd package, so both don't get installed together, but Julien Cristau is
now complaining that this isn't a correct solution.

It seems that the correct solution would be to rename the mpd binary
to something else in Debian. Which sucks because:
(1) it will confuse users. However, we can hope that most users are
controlling mpd with the mpd* commands.
(2) it is currently hard to change the name of the mpd binary in mpich2
(it is an hard assumption in mpd* that it is called mpd, and not
something else).

What do you think we should do?

I would like a solution to this to be found between the Ubuntu Lucid
hard freeze (Apr 26th) since I don't want users of Ubuntu Lucid and
Debian Squeeze to have a different behaviour for something so important.

It currently has old lintian warnings about missing manpages for some of the

I am raising the severity of this issue to important since it impacts
the usability of the system in general, and usability of other packages
on the system: this issue causes aforementioned problem for any code
which, besides anything else, also uses scipy. This makes it impossible
to run any such python code using python*-dbg flavor whenever debugging
is necessary, even if not debugging of scipy code itself.

When trying to run 'software-properties-kde' and also 'kdesudo

I was told that I need this app to run the application 'update-notifier', which
seems to be GNOME but I was told would run on KDE as well. Running KDE 4.3.4

Bug#569843: [Logcheck-devel] Bug#569843: logcheck-database: acpid filter misses trailing white space

2010-04-13 Thread Hannes von Haugwitz

Mats Erik Andersson wrote:

The syslog messages for acpid when a window client connects
or disconnect all have a trailing single space at each line.
Therefore the existing two patterns in

  /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/acpid

fail to filter out the events.

I tried to reproduce this in squeeze and sid with no success, but the
log lines don't contain a trailing space. So I'm tagging this bug as

unreproducible.

Please provide more info (e.g. acpid version or example log lines) about
howto reproduce this behaviour, if its still reproducible by you.

Furthermore, the disconnect
message includes a PID-numbered client, which is not present
in the pattern at all.

This has been fixed in 53f7a7b.

Greetings,

Hannes

 Package: amsn
 Version: 0.98.1-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I have nearly the same problem: amsn freeze during connection. Launched
under strace, amsn connect perfectly. In a console I have this error
 message:

I have stumbled into this problem today, too. In the computer that I
have at the work, it was installed aMSN version 0.98.1-2. I upgraded
to 0.98.3-1,¹ and the problem isn't in that version given that it has
the needed changes for the new protocol. I am waiting for someone to
upload the new upstream version of aMSN for me. If you want it, try
the version I uploaded to mentors to confirm that the problem gets
solved in that revision.

2010-04-13 Thread Alberto

Is the notify patch included on this module backport? It helps a lot
to free compressed RAM not used anymore. Acording to the description,

This will enable 'swap free notify' feature which allows kernel to send
callback to

ramzswap as soon as a swap slot becomes free. So, we can immediately
free memory allocated for this page, eliminating any stale data in
(compressed) memory.

Bug#577674: gcc-4.4/cross: broken bi-arch architectures

2010-04-13 Thread Hector Oron
Package: gcc-4.4
Version: 4.4.3-7
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

When building cross compilers (only seen on biarch architectures):

Builds are done with:
GCC_TARGET=powerpc DEB_CROSS=yes fakeroot debian/rules control
DEB_CROSS_NO_BIARCH=yes DH_VERBOSE=1 GCC_TARGET=powerpc DEB_CROSS=yes
dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -rfakeroot

dh_makeshlibs -plib64gomp1-powerpc-cross
rm -f debian/lib64gomp1-powerpc-cross/DEBIAN/shlibs
sed s/-powerpc-cross//g debian/lib64gomp1-powerpc-cross/DEBIAN/shlibs
debian/lib64gomp1-powerpc-cross/DEBIAN/shlibs.fixed
/bin/bash: debian/lib64gomp1-powerpc-cross/DEBIAN/shlibs: No such file or
directory
make[1]: *** [stamps/08-binary-stamp-lib64gomp] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/zumbi/buildcross/trunk/test/gcc-4.4-4.4.3'
make: *** [binary] Error 2
dpkg-buildpackage: error: fakeroot debian/rules binary gave error exit status 2

There are no files under debian/lib64gomp1-powerpc-cross/usr/lib64/, so
shlibs file is not created and should not be built on a DEB_NO_BIARCH=yes build.

If you workarround this issue, another issues follow:

  * Also tries to build lib64fortran3

  * Tries to create an existing file and fails:
mkdir: cannot create directory `debian/libstdc++6-powerpc-cross-deps': File
exists

  * Tries to write on a directory owned by root (making fakeroot unusable)
  ln: creating symbolic link `debian/libstdc++6-powerpc-cross-deps/lib/lib':
Permission denied

  * And I also believe (not sure) it tries to run the testsuite on cross
builds, which should be avoided or done remotely.

Feel free to split this bug if you find this issues should be worked out as
separated bugs.

Kind regards,
  Hector Oron

Bug#577676: [patch]: libbusiness-onlinepayment-perl should depend libnet-ssleay-perl | libcrypt-ssleay-perl

2010-04-13 Thread Hideki Yamane
Package: libbusiness-onlinepayment-perl
Severity: serious

Hi,

When rebuild libbusiness-onlinepayment-ippay-perl to fix other FTBFS bug,
 I got error as below.

Error: One of Net::SSLeay (v1.30 or later) or Crypt::SSLeay (+LWP) is
required at
/usr/share/perl5/Business/OnlinePayment/HTTPS.pm line 38.

 However, libbusiness-onlinepayment-perl says Depends: perl (= 5.6.0-16).
It should depend libnet-ssleay-perl | libcrypt-ssleay-perl as well.
 This bug blocks #577358

For this issue, I made a simple patch (with squash lintian warnings).
 Please check and apply it.

Bug#388250: synaptic: menu entry for showing copyright file / keyboard shortcuts

2010-04-13 Thread Fabian Greffrath

unarchive 388250
reopen 388250
found 388250 0.63.1
tags 388250 + patch
thanks

Dear synaptic developers,

some five years ago I opened a wishlist bug against synaptic asking
for a keyboard shortcut for Download Changelog and another menu
entry allowing for Download Copyright. Because the bug report
covered two different issues, it has been closed shortly after with my
consent. Now I found this report again and created patches for it that
I kindly ask you to integrate into synaptic.

(1) In the main menu there is an entry called Package / Download
Changelog. It would be nice to also have another entry called Download
Copyright, which will show the copyright file.

This is extremely interesting for new packages in non-free/contrib and
in all cases when you want to know what the heck you are downloading at
all. ;)

This is covered by download-copyright-file.patch. I have introduced
another menu entry Download Copyright File next to Download
Changelog and reuse most of the code that is currently used to
retrieve the changelog file. This even becomes visible in the actual
text view window itself, when the following text is still introduced
as the most current changelog, although the copyright file is shown.

But, hey, at least it's a starting point. ;)

While we are at it, I introduced Y as an accelerator key for this
menu entry.

(2) Could you please introduce a keyboard shortcut for the Show
Changelog function? A suggestion would be F5 or similar. If you
decide to add the Show Copyright function, a keyboard shortcut for
this (maybe F6) would be nice, too.

This issue is covered by changelog-accelerator.patch. It introduces
L as an accelerator key for the Download Changelog function (I
have checked that it was not assigned so far). That's all.

I am going to split this bug as soon as I got feedback from you and
are able to estimate changes if one or both patches get applied.

Cheers,
Fabian

Bug#569778: is this still an issue?

2010-04-13 Thread Andres Cimmarusti
Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver in sid (also newer
kernel and mesa)? (make sure you have libdrm-radeon1, firmware-linux-nonfree
and firmware-linux installed). If problem persists, could you try getting
2.6.33 from experimental. Also try enabling Kernel modesetting. add *radeon*to
/etc/modules and put *options radeon modeset=1* in
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you might need to create the file).

Report back!

Andres

Thanks Stephen !

Now some brave fouls to check the 6410 lines of this driver ? ;)

Question of the day : Why TSO is broken in forcedeth ?
Is it generically broken or is it broken for specific NICS ?

I don't have a short-term solution for this, but in the 1.3 series,
Hydra is the default process manager instead of mpd. So, by default,
there will not be any mpd* installed (it'll still be available for
people who want to configure with mpd using --with-pm=mpd). The timeline
for releasing 1.3 is late summer unfortunately (1.3a1 is already out).

  * debian/hunspell-fr.links:
- define symlinks for the fr_FR dictionary too otherwise only the
other variants are listed in GNOME dialogs

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Bug#570466: it's been a month, is this still a problem?

2010-04-13 Thread Andres Cimmarusti
Is this still a problem with the newer radeon driver in sid (also newer
kernel and mesa)? (make sure you have libdrm-radeon1, firmware-linux-nonfree
and firmware-linux installed). If problem persists, could you try getting
newer 2.6.33 from experimental. When enabling Kernel modesetting, add *
radeon* to /etc/modules and put *options radeon modeset=1* in
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf (you might need to create the file).

Bug#577680: puppet: Cannot create RRD databases with librrd-ruby1.8

2010-04-13 Thread martin . stern
Package: puppetmaster
Version: 0.24.5-3
Severity: normal

Hello,

i like to use the RRD reporttype of puppetmaster. /etc/puppet/puppet.conf
contains:

[puppetmasterd]
...
reports= store, log, rrdgraph
rrdgraph   = true
rrdintervall   = $runintervall

With the Ruby-RRD bindings in librrd-ruby1.8 Version 1.3.1-4 this did not work,
because librrd-ruby1.8 provides RRD.so but
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/puppet/util/metric.rb
wants RRDTools.so

This Problem also exists in puppetmaster 0.25.4-2~bpo50+1 and librrd-ruby1.8
1.4.3-1~bpo50+1

Based in the patches under http://projects.reductivelabs.com/issues/2891
I create the attached Patch for the Puppet version in Lenny, witch worked for
me.

The patches under the link above may be appropriate for puppet 0.25.4

Regards,
Martin

As mentioned in the original Debian bug - I can reproduce this by
running Hadoop[1] TeraSort[2] but I haven't identified a simpler
reproducer. I tried to recreate this with iperf and ping -f but neither
helped - it may be that the problem only occurs when systems are passing
large amounts of traffic and have very high cpu utilisation (when
running the Hadoop TeraSort all 8 cores run at 70-100% utilisation as
measure with htop - I plan to instrument the nodes with something like
Zabbix or Ganglia but it hasn't happened yet).

Bug#577683: runit-run: /etc/rc[06].d/K* scripts not run on reboot/shutdown

2010-04-13 Thread Lorenzo Beretta
Package: runit-run
Version: 1.1.2
Severity: wishlist

While most of system cleanup is taken care of by sv force-stop
/etc/service/*, it fails to do a couple of things (in my case, saving
the system clock aumix settings), and that's quite annoying.

This is because /etc/init.d/rc fails to determine the previous runlevel,
and running kil scripts is guarded by an if [ ... - which fails using
runit; I hacked /etc/init.d/rc to force a sensible value (2) if
/sbin/runlevel returns unknown, but clearly that's not the solution ;D

Btw, THANK YOU for writing runit -- you have no idea how much headache
it was before!

Now some brave fouls to check the 6410 lines of this driver ? ;)

Question of the day : Why TSO is broken in forcedeth ?
Is it generically broken or is it broken for specific NICS ?

Actually, it is only when tx-checksumming is turned off that the problem
doesn't occur (so I'm not sure TSO is the problem).

Additionally, a google also turns up this existing Debian bug
http://bugs.debian.org/506419 which seems to be related.

I am scratching my head, but I thought you told me that

ethtool -K eth0 tso off
ethtool -K eth0 tx on

was working ?

And, given that when you perform ethtool -K eth0 tx off, TSO is
automatically off...

tx checksums work, TSO doesnt work, therefore TSO is broken ?

Bug#577684: please correct build dependencies

2010-04-13 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Package: texlive-bin
Version: 2009-5
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

After more than a day of building on m68k, I get a failure:
.../../../texk/web2c/pdftexdir/pdftoepdf.cc:709: error: `class PDFDoc' has no
member named `getPDFMinorVersion'
.../../../texk/web2c/pdftexdir/pdftoepdf.cc:710: error: `class PDFDoc' has no
member named `getPDFMajorVersion'

Others have had similar issues: #559032

I currently have installed libpoppler-dev 0.10.5-1 which
satisfies the build dependencies listed in debian/control
but is not recent enough to build the package.

Please correct the dependencies.

Thanks!

This happens with version 2.10.61 (testing) too. It seems unusable. I'm
not using bts regularly, but it would be surprising that bts was
  completely broken.

The part of the script in which this occurs is where we fork/exec the
mail process.  It basically boils down to:

 printf tags 407598 - fixed-upstream\nthanks\n | mail -s tagging 407598
  -a User-Agent: devscripts bts/2.10.62 cont...@bugs.debian.org

Although the above isn't exactly what's happening, does that work?  The
error message you're getting seems like it may be due to not finding
mail, but I'd expect to see more than just No such file or directory.

It doesn't work. The output for your test was
User-Agent: devscripts bts/2.10.62: No such file or directory

This happens because mail is provided by heirloom-mailx, for which -a means:

 -a file
Attach the given file to the message.

Interesting. That throws a wrench in the works. Do you know how one
would specify extra mail headers using heirloom-mailx?

 The management of the
mailx alternative seems to be broken. If you install/uninstall mailx providers
to fix this issue, please pay attention to what happens to mail(1). It broke
 at
some point on the 2 PCs. mailutils may well be the culprit. It provides
mail(1) directly in /usr/bin/mail, which is usually an alternative link. This
would deserve another bug report. I think /usr/bin/mail disappears sometimes,
even when a mailx provider is present.

Indeed. That's a bug. Thanks for the information. I'll file a bug
against mailutils soon.

I don't have a short-term solution for this, but in the 1.3 series,
Hydra is the default process manager instead of mpd. So, by default,
there will not be any mpd* installed (it'll still be available for
people who want to configure with mpd using --with-pm=mpd). The
timeline for releasing 1.3 is late summer unfortunately (1.3a1 is
 already out).

Dear release team,

Given that we have a way out of this for after squeeze (switching to
hydra as the PM, thus droppping the mpd binary), I'm very tempted to
ignore that problem for squeeze (and keep the current solution of
conflicting with mpd).

Renaming the mpd binary in the mpich2 package is likely to generate a
lot more many unsatisfied users than the conflict. It will result in a
lot of documentations being changed with ... except if you use Debian,
where they thought better and renamed mpd to mpich2-mpd.

Additionally, there's no easy way to do the renaming. It could possibly
introduce subtle breakages.

So, would you consider squeeze-ignor'ing this bug?

All these things didn't work for my card. If you use NetworkManager, there
was a change I made to it that solved all my suspend/hibernation problems.
NM has an option called network_sleep. It's disabled by default. I activated
it and my laptop was able to correctly suspend and hibernate. What it
effectively does, is to disconnect NM before suspending.

Report back!
