Bug#578476: Crashes when a broken GStreamer plugin is installed

 I don't consider using the public API of gstreamer in a non-broken way
 to mean that pidgin is doing anything wrong here. Comment from the
 source explaining why they were originally catching/disabling forking:

 /* By default, gstreamer forks when you initialize it, and waitpids for the
  * child. But if libpurple reaps the child rather than leaving it to
  * gstreamer, gstreamer's initialization fails. So, we wait a second before
  * reaping child processes, to give gst a chance to reap it if it wants to.
  *
  * This is not needed in later gstreamers, which let us disable the forking.
  * And, it breaks the world on some Real Unices.
  */

Not sure what exactly the problem here is, maybe you can explain in what
way libpurple could reap the child process? Because multiple threads are
running while fork() is called and the libpurple threads continue in the
new process?

Anyway, I don't think this is still a problem since 0.10.28. Nowadays
it's not a simple fork() and doing things in a copy of the original
process but a fork() and exec() of a different executable, which then
talks via pipes to the original process. Or am I missing something here?

Oh and if you do the registry updating in the main process the pidgin
process will always use a lot more memory... not a good thing either ;)

It would be great if the strongswan NM plugin could support
authentication via PSK.

I need this in two situations:

Connecting to a customer's VPN. I have no say in the choice of PSK for
authentication.

Connecting to the test VPN I'm setting up for someone else. I got PSK
working but haven't yet had time to convert it to X.509 certificates.

Hello,
   Adding a -b flag should at least fix your boot process problem as it
will abort on error.

Can you increase the logging level and send me the results?
You will find those options in /etc/gogoc/gogoc.conf

If you have to login to the server please remove your username and

Bug#578597: Recommend usage of dpkg-buildflags to initialize CFLAGS and al.

2010-04-21 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: debian-policy
Severity: wishlist

With dpkg 1.15.7 just uploaded to sid, there's now a dpkg-buildflags
command that should be used to initialize CFLAGS, LDFLAGS, CPPFLAGS,
FFLAGS, CXXFLAGS. It offers some flexibility for the local admin and for
the user to override/extend the default flags used during a package
compilation.

dpkg-buildpackage continues to export them to not break packages but it
exports the value returned by dpkg-buildflags.

The desired outcome is that all package grab the values directly from
dpkg-buildflags and that we can stop exporting the variables from
dpkg-buildpackage. That way calling debian/rules directly and via
dpkg-buildpackage should give the same result.

Please modify the policy to recommend the usage of dpkg-buildflags (I would
suggest to push that policy change just at the start of squeeze+1).

CFLAGS=$(shell dpkg-buildflags --get CFLAGS)

Note: by using this tool you automatically implement the noopt feature
of DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.

Cheers,

Bug#578517: confirmed as l10n issue

Hi Joey,

Sorry my tests were wrong when trying to discriminate the locale factor
out: ls / | env LC_ALL=C ts | ts -r %H does work with 0.34 and 0.39.

More specifically, it looks like env LC_ALL=xxx sh -c 'ls / | ts | ts
-r %H' works for C and en locales, but at least not for french
ones on those versions.

Similarly on 0.31, the uninitialized do not appear for C, although
it appears for en.

don't think so, but that's a problem we can only identify (if it

The fact is that not *every* testing installation is broken, so

Bug#578601: wildcards in /etc/sudoers are not working after update

2010-04-21 Thread Ralf Gross
Package: sudo
Version: 1.6.9p17-2+lenny1
Severity: important

We use the following sudo rule to grant a remote nagios host access via snmp to
the command line of a RAID controller.

snmpALL=NOPASSWD:/opt/areca/cli64*

I don't know if it's needed, but here's the related snmpd.conf line:

extend check_areca /opt/areca/check_areca.pl

and the sudo line in check_areca.pl:

[...]
my $areca_cli   = '/opt/areca/cli64';
[...]
@output = `sudo $areca_cli vsf info`;
[...]

This worked fine with sudo version 1.6.8p12-4. After a system update yesterday,
this stopped working and nagios reports an error.

Starting the nagios check from the remote host manually shows this:

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

[sudo] password for snmp:
Command: cli64 vsf info failed, 256, aborting!

and the according line in auth.log

Apr 21 08:48:47 VUMEM004 sudo: pam_unix(sudo:auth): authentication failure;
logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty= ruser= rhost=  user=snmp

Removing the wildcard or downgrading to 1.6.8p12-4 resolves the problem.

One thing I don't yet understand: if I execute the same sudo command locally in
a shell as user snmp on the host (not via snmp) I don't get the sudo error.

$ whoami
snmp

$ sudo /opt/areca/cli64 vsf info
 # Name Raid# Level   Capacity Ch/Id/Lun  State
===
 1 ARC-1210-VOL#001   Raid6   4000.0GB 00/00/00   Normal
===
GuiErrMsg0x00: Success.

I don't see the difference, in both cases the script is executed as user snmp.

Nethertheless, downgrading or removing the wildcard solves the problem, so I
guess it has something to do with the update.

Bug#578602: gettext: please enable java also on non openjdk archs (use default java compiler)

2010-04-21 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: gettext
Version: 0.17-10
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the gettext package switched from jikes-classpath to openjdk-6-jdk
in 0.17-7, it leaded to FTBFS on non openjdk archs,
the building of java part have been disabled on them in 0.17-10.

But the proper solution is to use default-jdk, which depends on
appropriate arch specific java package, currently openjdk and gcj.

Please enable java on all architectures, build tested on kfreebsd-amd64.

Petr

Bug#578604: libqtgui4: Qt displays half width character (e.g. alphabet) as full width in some Japanese fonts(QTBUG-1726)

2010-04-21 Thread Kiwamu Okabe
Package: libqtgui4
Version: 4:4.6.2-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

There is the problem that Qt displays half width character
(e.g. alphabet) as full width in some Japanese fonts.
This problem was reported in #QTBUG-1726
http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-1726.

This occurs in the following fonts.
- Monospace font
- Selif font
- IPA font (Ver.0301)
- NSimSun

In Cario and fontconfig etc., the FT_LOAD_IGNORE_GLOBAL_ADVANCE_WIDTH
is specified as flag of FT_Load_Glyph function to solve this problem.

According to the document of freetype,
this flag exists to support buggy CJK fonts.
http://www.freetype.org/freetype2/docs/reference/ft2-base_interface.html#FT_LOAD_XXX

Bug#457075: Salomé packaging

2010-04-21 Thread Andre Espaze
Hi Adam,

  I guess that it is not relevant to run the 5.1.3-4 build again
  if this version works for you. I am now starting a complete build
  with all modules.

 I've built -5 with everything but VISU and NETGENPLUGIN (which don't
 build), they're at http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/salome/ .

 There's lots more to do, but having a version which runs seems like a
 big milestone. If you could test it, that would be great. This may
 even be worth uploading, so it gets started in the NEW queue, and if all
 goes well we can start using the Debian bug reporting system.
It works that time, I only had to export the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable
in runSalome, I have attached the patch.

I could run Salome with the GEOM, MED, SMESH and YACS modules which
are loaded by default. The MULTIPTR and HELLO modules work too when
added on the command line. The PYHELLO module seems to have a loading
problem but that is a developer example. The remaining modules do not
seem to have a GUI. I plan to work on the VISU module now once the
patches are sent to upstream.
Thank you very much for the great work, I am glad to see a first
working version in Debian.

All the best,

André

anything particularly worrying, do you think you could find the relevant code
in the gallery source code which is calling mysqli_options? maybe running
info locals at frames 0-4 as well? thanks!

Bug#464926: ITP: freepbx -- web-based management interface for the Asterisk PBX

Hi,

 * Package name : freepbx
 Version : 2.3.1
 Upstream Author : Astrogen LLC philippe at freepbx dot org
 * URL : http://freepbx.org/
 * License : GPL
 Description : web-based management interface for the Asterisk PBX
  FreePBX (formally AMP) is a web-based GUI for the Asterisk PBX.
  It provides the ability to:
   * create/modify SIP/IAX extensions  voicemail boxes
   * modify handling of incoming calls based on time-of-day
   * create interactive IVR menus
   * create sophisticated call groups
   * upload custom MOH
   * change company directory behavior
   * set directions for detected incoming faxes
   * view extension and trunk status with Flash Operator Panel
 (www.asternic.org)
   * read voicemail via the browser with ARI

What's the status here? I read:

 With Debian we already have a package of the Flash Operator Panel, and the
 package has been patched accrdingly to use that copy.

 FreePBX also uses jgraph, which has been removed from the package.

 The package is currently available from:
 Vcs-Svn: svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-voip/freepbx/trunk/
 Vcs-Browser: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-voip/freepbx/?op=log

 Part of the package is available in modules that upstream allows updating
 separately. We currently repackage them in the separate package
 freepbx-modules .

but it looks like you gave up. Or were the unsolvable issues?

Hi,

please enable java on all architectures.

The proper solution is to use default-jdk, which depends on
appropriate arch specific java package, currently openjdk and gcj.

Patch have been build tested on kfreebsd-amd64.

Bug#578596: Confirmed, fixed(?).

2010-04-21 Thread Martin Krüger

Hi,

I just got this bug, too.

Adding
rv = 0
to the /usr/lib/python2.5/py_compile.py should solve this. Otherwise,
the variable is used before the initialization.

The beginning of the main method looks like this now:
{snip}
explicitly. If '-' is the only parameter in args, the list of
files is taken from standard input.

rv = 0
if args is None:
args = sys.argv[1:]
{snip}

Bug#578610: network-manager: please make dhcp_timeout and association timeout configurable

2010-04-21 Thread Patrick Winnertz
Package: network-manager
Version: 0.8-1winnie1
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

As in our university the wlan hotspots needs a bit longer to associate a
timeout of
25 seconds is too less. However setting it statically for everybody to e.g. 40
seconds
is too much in most cases, thus I would like to ask you if you could make this
configurable
either via a configuration file or via nm-applet (or knetworkmanager).

This holds true also for the dhcp timeout, which is per default 45 seconds.
I'll need at our
university at least a timeout of 60 seconds, which is again, too much for the
normal user.

Greetings
Winnie

The proper solution is to use default-jdk, which depends on
appropriate arch specific java package, currently openjdk and gcj.

Please replace all openjdk-6-jdk by default-jdk in debian/control
and similarly by default-java in debian/rules.

There is some problem with javadoc/stylesheet.css and
javadoc/resources/inherit.gif though.

   I don't have this failure here when trying to install emacs23 (cscope is

   trigger this bug?

   Actually, installing package emacs23 works fine, only installing
   emacs23-nox fails with the above assertion.

   Also, it looks like a memory corruption. Have you tried to reboot the
   machine? A different kernel?

   I have tried rebooting, no luck. Installing on my amd64 sid virtual
   machine works without problem, so looks like it is mips* specific.

   FYI, this is a loongson2f laptop, so both the kernel and binutils have
   been patched to work with this kind of machine, and related patches are
   being review for integration with upstream kernel source. I don't know
   whether those patches have any impact on this problem.

  What kind of patch is needed to binutils? Binutils contains the tool to
  generated the binaries, so if the patch changes the generated code, it
  means that Debian is simply not compatible with the loongson2f.

 I noticed the following in the binutils (2.20.1-6) changelog:

* Backport fixups of Loongson2F from the trunk.

 Deng, does rebuilding emacs23 with the current binutils help?

Rebuilt with current binutils, now it did make emacs23-nox installable
on my loongson2f-based machine. So this should be a loongson2f specific
problem. I wonder whether a binNMU will be helpful, as I don't know
whether the patch works on non-loongson2f based machine.

Feel free to close this bug or handle it as appropriate.

Regards,
Xiyue Deng

 Cheers,
 Moritz

 Grüße/Regards,

 René

Hi

Good point.

A java compiler is usually useless without the a backing Java core
library, so you probably want to replace it with a JDK.

Also please note that we have removed a lot of JVMs from Squeeze;
currently Debian has 3 or so left.
  * openjdk-6
  * gcj/gij
  * sun-java6 (non-free)
  * default (which is either openjdk-6 or gcj/gij)

As I recall there is also a JVM implemented in .NET or so, but it does
not identify itself via one of the javaX-runtime (nor the java-compiler
ones) and I cannot remember its name offhand.

Aside from the mono JVM (which I do not really know), all of them can
run Java5 code[1], so basically it is useless to have both java-compiler
and java2-compiler.
  On a related note: it appears that only sun-java6 provides
java2-compiler (even though all others could provide it as well).

If I was to replace a java{,2}-compiler to mean Any java compiler I
would use:
  default-jdk | gcj-jdk | sun-java6-jdk [3]

But I would definitely consider only using default-jdk (especially for
Suggests). While that may seem a bit strange as replacement for Any
compiler consider the following:
 default-jdk is either openjdk-6-jdk or gcj-jdk
 openjdk-6 is based on the same source as sun-java6
 openjdk-6 is available any architecture where sun-java6 is.
 gcj-jdk is inferior to openjdk-6 (not only due to [1])

While sun-java6 is still superior to openjdk-6 in some cases, I believe
this is only a runtime thing and not a compile issue. So by using
default-jdk you get the best compiler we got and it is shorter.
  Of course there are users using sun-java6-jdk which will not like if
apt pulls in a second JDK, so for Recommends+Depends it may be worth to
use the alternatives.

With a little grep-dctrl magic I noticed we 1 absolute dependency on
javaX-compiler (laby), four Recommends (robocode, jde, jython, mmake)
and 5 Suggests (ant, ant1.7, cup, openoffice.org-dev-doc, lab).
  There are also 6 Build-Depends(-Indep) cases, but I already covered
those. All in all we got a total of 15 (9 + 6) uses of java-compiler and
java2-compiler, so they do not appear to be widely used.

~Niels

[1] gcj/gij does not implement the full Java5 API.

[2] Should be updated, since gcj is a transitional package.

[3] You could add openjdk-6-jdk to this list, but on architectures where
openjdk-6 is available, it will be pulled by default-jdk.

In that case pptp is actually IPv6 compatible but the default change

Bug#517627: Alteon NIC firmware

2010-04-21 Thread Jamie Lokier
Ben Hutchings wrote:
 Jamie,

 You appear to be hosting the Alteon NIC firmware source and tools at
 http://alteon.shareable.org/, but links to those subdirectories yield
 'Forbidden' error pages.

 Is there a reason why these are not available, or is this accidental?

A configuration accident as you correctly guessed.

Indexing was turned off. They are all readable now.

If you build the firmware from the last source version, using the
Linux-hosted GCC 2.95 (needing firmware.patch), it even runs a bit
faster than the original Acenic binary :-) Somehow I never got around
to submitting my version to the kernel. Don't ask me to revisit it now.

The tools etc. were originally collected for a custom firmware
projects (it was a popular board for that), and I decided to host them
because Alteon were shutting down, and as a general principle of
keeping source around.

I'm not sure if the license would satisfy DFSG. It's pretty open as
these things go. Lots of people hacked this chip, Tigon2, in
interesting ways because of it's relatively unique openness at the
time, and were disappointed when its successor, the Tigon3, wasn't
open at all. It is quite a versatile dual-CPU gigE chip.

I wrote on the top-level index Look at the source files yourself to
understand any licensing restrictions on their use. Alteon's license
may be summarised like this: you may share and develop the firmware,
but it is only for use with Alteon NIC products. That last bit might
refer to just advice, or a DFSG-incompatible restriction, I don't
remember which.

If it breaks you get to keep both pieces :-)

If you mean to say that grave bugs are not grave when occuring as part

Bug#578620: ganglia-webfrontend (needlessly?) depends on apache

2010-04-21 Thread Gregor Lahm
Package: ganglia-webfrontend
Version: 3.1.2-3.1
Severity: wishlist

The ganglia webfrontend depends on apache, when really the only
apache-specific thing about it seems to be the apache config (see
filelist at [1])

Would it be possible to make it depend on the virtuals httpd/httpd-cgi instead?

Providing additional configs for alternative webservers like
lighttpd/ngnix would be even better, but obviously alot(?) of work.

Bug#560070: fixed in dpkg 1.15.7

2010-04-21 Thread Bill Allombert
[ Raphaël Hertzog ]
* Introduce a new script called dpkg-buildflags: its purpose is to retrieve
  compilation flags and it should be used within debian/rules to pass
  the right compilation flags to the build process. dpkg-builpackage still
  exports them to not break packages currently relying on them but packages
  should now start using dpkg-buildflags instead. Closes: #560070

So this does not actually fix this bug ?

Cheers,
Bill.

 From: Bill Allombert bill.allomb...@math.u-bordeaux1.fr
 To: sub...@bugs.debian.org
 Subject: dpkg: please stop setting CFLAGS etc. environment variables

 Package: dpkg-dev
 Version: 1.15.5

 Hello dpkg developers,

 dpkg-buildpackages set a bunch of general purpose environment variables before
 calling debian/rules (CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS, FFLAGS, LDFLAGS, MFLAGS, etc.).

 This cause some packages to build differently with dpkg-buildpackages or
 with 'debian/rules binary' and there is no consensus in Debian that it is
 a correct thing for dpkg-buildpackages to do, and there are no documentation
 how packages are supposed to deal with them and deal with builds done by
 'debian/rules binary'.

 Please change dpkg not to set them for standard Debian builds.

 Cheers,

 Hi,

 the gettext package switched from jikes-classpath to openjdk-6-jdk
 in 0.17-7, it leaded to FTBFS on non openjdk archs,
 the building of java part have been disabled on them in 0.17-10.

 But the proper solution is to use default-jdk, which depends on appropriate
 arch specific java package, currently openjdk and gcj.

 Please enable java on all architectures,

Hmm, but I was specifically avoiding gcj:

gettext (0.14.1-10) unstable; urgency=low

  * Removed dependency on libgcj4 by not using gcj anymore (Closes: #292988).

gettext (0.17-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Added --disable-native-java to ./configure call to prevent gcj from
being used even if it's installed. This avoids a Build-Conflicts: gcj
and fixes a FTBFS in unclean chroot bug. Closes: #474901.

Are you sure everything will work as expected?

 build tested on kfreebsd-amd64.

Ok, could you please provide the output of

debdiff gettext_0.17-10_kfreebsd-amd64.deb gettext_0.17-10_amd64.deb

Bug#578622: mplayer: FTBFS on kfreebsd-amd64 (vidix disable needed)

2010-04-21 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc3+svn20090405-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version fails to build on kfreebsd-amd64.
it suffices to disable vidix support in debian/rules
to get working mplayer.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Applied :) (r680)

  b.) what is the debian_bundle issue?

 Sorry about my poor explanation. In sid, if you import debian_budle
 you get this message:

 import debian_bundle

 'debian_bundle'

 The issue is only the warning message. That's all :-)

 Thanks for your attention, Holger (and for your patience).

 I think the patch modification is wrong. IMO, you need to set umask to
 0 because it is applied between the mode specified in os.makedirs
 function. You may also substract the umask value to 755, but I don't
 find any python function for getting umask value (without modify it
 previously). I have tested this patch with piuparts sid version and
 fails when current umask is, for example, 0270.

Ah. Makes sense :)

Bug#578602: gettext: please enable java also on non openjdk archs (use default java compiler)

2010-04-21 Thread Petr Salinger

Hmm, but I was specifically avoiding gcj:

gettext (0.14.1-10) unstable; urgency=low

 * Removed dependency on libgcj4 by not using gcj anymore (Closes: #292988).

gettext (0.17-3) unstable; urgency=low

 * Added --disable-native-java to ./configure call to prevent gcj from
   being used even if it's installed. This avoids a Build-Conflicts: gcj
   and fixes a FTBFS in unclean chroot bug. Closes: #474901.

Are you sure everything will work as expected?

Currently,
there is no /usr/share/java/gettext.jar on non-openjdk archs in gettext
and there is no /usr/share/java/libintl.jar on non-openjdk archs

in gettext-base.

 It is interesting that 'print fileno($fh)' works (prints '3') and

This is fixed in 5.12.0-1 (currently in experimental), most probably by

Is really whole openjdk-6-jdk needed or just suffices to have

I did dpkg-buildpackage -B -uc on kfreebsd-amd64.

Yeah... me too. Resetting the previous value of umask is just a
prevention decision because through the program code a lot of files
and directories are created. It is necessary to study if other
files/directories depends on concrete permissions so that a custom
umask value would corrupt them. For all these reasons, I think current
patch is a good solution.

I have to read more slowly the piuparts code to understand it better,
so I'll take a look to this issue.

A library that can be used to add OpenID support to Django applications.
The library integrates with Django's built in authentication system, so
most applications require minimal changes to support OpenID login. The
library also includes the following features:
* Basic user details are transferred from the OpenID server via the
  simple Registration extension.
* Can be configured to use a fixed OpenID server URL, for use in SSO.
* Supports the launchpad.net teams extension to get team membership

That is a shame, I guess I have to implement it myself or find something
else that does. openswan-nm looks like it might do that actually.

I hope you don't mind, but I think this bug should stay open to document
your (upstream) decision to not allow PSK support.

I would suggest that password strength checking and notifications would
address your concerns about people using weak passwords.

 Please keep in mind that the NM plugin supports IKEv2 tunnels only.
 IKEv2 is not widely deployed yet, are you sure your customer uses IKEv2?

I did not know that. Apparently they use openswan 2.4, so no IKEv2.

Bug#576274: bug still present in current kernel from Sid

2010-04-21 Thread bugreport
Hi,

I tested the current linux-image-2.6.32-4-686 in Sid and the problem is indeed
still there. Current workaround: Don't use suspend.

I use the laptop while testing and I always lose a little of the stuff I work
on when the screen goes dark (the stuff not saved yet). So I really recommend
the workaround for now.
