Bug#585809: valgrind: stripped ld.so causes tons of false positives
http://valgrind.org/docs/manual/dist.readme-packagers.html The problem is that strlen() process data 4 bytes by 4 bytes, so it can read up to 3 bytes more if the first byte is 0. That's why valgrind triggers here. The page cited above says: Reason for this is that Valgrind's Memcheck tool needs to intercept calls to, and provide replacements for, some symbols in ld.so at startup (most importantly strlen). Is valgrind failing to substitute its own strlen implementation for some reason? It seems to be, as I'm getting errors from a simple function like this: static void foo (void) { char init[4] = abc; int i; i = strlen (init); } that look like this: ==16169== Memcheck, a memory error detector ==16169== Copyright (C) 2002-2009, and GNU GPL'd, by Julian Seward et al. ==16169== Using Valgrind-3.5.0-Debian and LibVEX; rerun with -h for copyright info ==16169== Command: ./valgrind-test ==16169== ==16169== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s) ==16169==at 0x6DB14D4: __strlen_sse2 (strlen.S:93) ==16169==by 0x80483EC: main (valgrind-test.c:15) ==16169== Uninitialised value was created by a stack allocation ==16169==at 0x80483C7: foo (valgrind-test.c:5) I would imagine that valgrind's substituted strlen wouldn't be named __strlen_sse2, for example. -Carl -- carl.d.wo...@intel.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#586174: [Evolution] Bug#586174: evolution: printing appointment from calendar puts date and time in white
On jeu., 2010-06-17 at 01:53 -0400, Daniel Kahn Gillmor wrote: Thanks, but please submit upstream issues directly upstream on http://bugzilla.gnome.org. Feel free to forward this upstream (and cc me if you like) if you feel confident this is not a debian-specific issue. I haven't had a chance (and won't, in the forseeable future) to try it on a non-debian distro. I also don't know enough about the interrelationships between gnome, evolution, and the printing subsystem to be confident that it is an upstream issue myself. Thanks for maintaining evolution for debian! I don't have time to handle most serious issues, not to mention more minor one. So no, I can't do it myself. I'm fairly confident it's an upstream issue, and have even less way to reproduce on another distro. Sorry, but reporting directly is your best chance to have it fixed (for that particular bug but also for others). Bug#586178: [openoffice.org] Cannot open files with enter by clicking on them
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1:3.2.1-2 Severity: normal I have a file with an enter inside the filename. When I try to click on it, it just fails to open. It is not an issue of the filemanager as other applications can open it without any problem. I also tried to open it in a terminal using $ oowriter test' '.odt but it fails too. It works for example with other applications when I try to use $ okular test' '.odt An example tar is attached which includes a file with an enter aka 0x0a in his filename As upstream thinks that it doesn't happen in his version, it must be an Debian related bug. Our completion is better since it's using a newer API of bash-completion (so it's less error-prone), while their is directly mangling bash variables. Bug#586182: multipath-tools: sometimes fails to create /dev/mapper/mpathN devices
Package: multipath-tools Version: 0.4.8-14+lenny2 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Sometimes, multipath-tools does not create all the /dev/mapper/mpathN devices one is expecting it to create. This seems to occur if there more than two multipathed devices. I have a system with a Promise E-Class 610f storage unit and two J-Class expansion units, attached in a SAS daisy-chain. The E-class is attached to a Dell 2950 server via a Cisco FC switch. There are four FC links, two from each controller on the E-Class. The FC card is a 4-port LSI/Symbios FC949ES, pciid is 1000:0646 with subsystem id 1000:1260. Each storage unit is configured as one logical disk, containing 16 physical disks in a RAID-6 raid set. These are presented to the Dell 2950 as 3 distinct LUNs, one for each logical disk. We started with just the E-Class attached (mpath0). Then, with the Dell 2950 shut down we added the J-classes. Neither J-class had a partition label or filesystem on them. On boot, all three storage units were detected correctly (a total of 12 sdX devices because of the multiple paths). However only two /dev/mapper/mpathN devices were created: # ls -l /dev/mapper total 0 crw-rw 1 root root 10, 59 2010-06-17 11:51 control brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 14 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-data brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 13 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-local brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 10 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-opt brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 12 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-srv brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 11 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-tmp brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 8 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-usr brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 9 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-usr+local brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 6 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-var brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 7 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg0-var+log brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 5 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg1-srv+backup brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 4 2010-06-17 11:51 install_vg1-srv+mysql brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 0 2010-06-17 11:51 mpath0 brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 2 2010-06-17 11:51 mpath0-part1 brw-rw 1 root disk 254, 1 2010-06-17 11:51 mpath1 Yet /var/lib/multipath/bindings showed the right WWNs for all three units: # cat /var/lib/multipath/bindings # Multipath bindings, Version : 1.0 # NOTE: this file is automatically maintained by the multipath program. # You should not need to edit this file in normal circumstances. # # Format: # alias wwid # mpath0 222810001550c3cb3 mpath1 2220e0001558b5168 mpath2 222de000155468f10 # multipath -v 3 -l ram0: device node name blacklisted ram1: device node name blacklisted ram2: device node name blacklisted ram3: device node name blacklisted ram4: device node name blacklisted ram5: device node name blacklisted ram6: device node name blacklisted ram7: device node name blacklisted ram8: device node name blacklisted ram9: device node name blacklisted ram10: device node name blacklisted ram11: device node name blacklisted ram12: device node name blacklisted ram13: device node name blacklisted ram14: device node name blacklisted ram15: device node name blacklisted sda: not found in pathvec sda: mask = 0x1 sda: dev_t = 8:0 sda: size = 1465149168 sda: subsystem = scsi sda: vendor = ATA sda: product = Hitachi HUA72107 sda: rev = A74A sda: h:b:t:l = 1:0:0:0 sdb: not found in pathvec sdb: mask = 0x1 sdb: dev_t = 8:16 sdb: size = 1465149168 sdb: subsystem = scsi sdb: vendor = ATA sdb: product = Hitachi HUA72107 sdb: rev = A74A sdb: h:b:t:l = 1:0:1:0 sdc: not found in pathvec sdc: mask = 0x1 sdc: dev_t = 8:32 sdc: size = 1465149168 sdc: subsystem = scsi sdc: vendor = ATA sdc: product = Hitachi HUA72107 sdc: rev = A74A sdc: h:b:t:l = 1:0:2:0 hda: device node name blacklisted sdd: not found in pathvec sdd: mask = 0x1 sdd: dev_t = 8:48 sdd: size = 1465149168 sdd: subsystem = scsi sdd: vendor = ATA sdd: product = Hitachi HUA72107 sdd: rev = A74A sdd: h:b:t:l = 1:0:3:0 sde: not found in pathvec sde: mask = 0x1 sde: dev_t = 8:64 sde: size = 27343744512 sde: subsystem = scsi sde: vendor = Promise sde: product = VTrak E610f sde: rev = 1006 sde: h:b:t:l = 0:0:0:0 sde: tgt_node_name = 0x2501000155d2394 sdf: not found in pathvec sdf: mask = 0x1 sdf: dev_t = 8:80 sdf: size = 27343744512 sdf: subsystem = scsi sdf: vendor = Promise sdf: product = VTrak E610f sdf: rev = 1006 sdf: h:b:t:l = 0:0:0:1 sdf: tgt_node_name = 0x2501000155d2394 sdg: not found in pathvec sdg: mask = 0x1 sdg: dev_t = 8:96 sdg: size = 27343744512 sdg: subsystem = scsi sdg: vendor = Promise sdg: product = VTrak E610f sdg: rev = 1006 sdg: h:b:t:l = 0:0:0:2 sdg: tgt_node_name = 0x2501000155d2394 sdh: not found in pathvec sdh: mask = 0x1 sdh: dev_t = 8:112 sdh: size = 27343744512 sdh: subsystem = scsi sdh: vendor = Promise sdh: product = VTrak E610f sdh: rev = 1006 sdh: h:b:t:l = 0:0:1:0 sdh: tgt_node_name = 0x2501000155d2394 sdi: not found in pathvec sdi: mask = 0x1 sdi: dev_t = 8:128 sdi: size = 27343744512 sdi: subsystem = scsi sdi: vendor

On 15/06/2010 21:13, Simon Kelley wrote: I have the dhcpcd5 package installed and running. It seems to be behaving itself and looks like a good start. Some observations of things that should be looked at. . The source package should be dhcpcd5, not dhcpcd, since the existing source package is dhcpcd OK. . The initscript sources /etc/default/dhcpcd, but it doesn't define or use any variables. At very least there should be an ENABLED flag, and a distributed default file which leaves that disabled. Should it be possible to restrict the set of interfaces here too? I'm not clear if that can be done in /etc/dhcpcd.conf There is no requirement for an ENABLED flag in initscripts. http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-opersys.html#s-sysvinit I'll probably just stop it from sourcing /etc/default/dhcpcd as dhcpcd.conf can handle everything. You can restrict interfaces like so in dhcpcd.conf allowinterfaces eth0 wlan0 denyinterfaces br0 . Coexistence with dhcpcd3 The following files are in both dhcpcd and dhcpcd5 /etc/default/dhcpcd /usr/share/man/man8/dhcpcd.8.gz /sbin/dhcpcd dhcpcd5 conflicts with dhcpcd, so the man page and binary are OK, but the default file isn't, since it's a config file that could be left even after dhcpcd has been removed. It should probably be /etc/default/dhcpcd5 It's worth thinking about designing dhcpcd5 so that it doesn't conflict with dhcpcd. Since taking a working system with dhcpcd and installing dhcpcd5 isn't going to keep it working by having dhpcd5 take over, making installation of dhcpcd5 cause removal of dhcpcd looks unfriendly. The other DHCP clients in Debian can be installed simultaneously, I think. The simplest way to do that would be to make the binary /sbin/dhcpcd5 and the man page similarly. NOte that if /sbin/dhcpcd exists, it's going to be called by ifup. If it doesn't accept the flags that ifup provides and work compatibly under those circumstances, then it needs to be called something else. The preinst removal of files left by dhcpcd is wrong, a package should not touch files belonging to a different package. The above comes from the view that dhcpcd-5 can co-exist with dhcpcd-3. Whilst they can physically exist on the same system both being present can cause a few issues: * Confusion as to which dhcpcd version and documentation is being used * dhcpcd running as a single daemon will conflict with dhcpcd per interface as setup in /etc/networking/interfaces due to start order. The only valid reason for co-existence so far is that some flags have been removed from the commandline that could be used by other people/programs. dhcpcd-4 shipped with some compat code to handle the transition from dhcpcd-123 to dhcpcd-4, to give both developers and users time to migrate. Debian doesn't have this luxury as it skipped dhcpcd-4 entirely! However, a patch can be maintained to add these compat flags back again. I could not find the source to ifup my Ubuntu to find out what flags it passes to dhcpcd - can you tell me please? So unless anyone as any other other reasons why co-existance is benefical I'll work on a new dhcpcd package today. Bug#586182: multipath-tools: sometimes fails to create /dev/mapper/mpathN devices
The maintainer for multipath-tools should be able to give you more information but in my experience, the friendly_names feature of multipath-tools have turned out to be more of a problem. I believe there is a bug that talks about a locking issue with friendly_names upstream. In face, I have been recommending against friendly_names (of of the bindings file). The plain LUN serial number based access is pretty good and reliable and persistent. Bug#586155: reportbug: Add button to list bugs considered closed/archived in recent versions

It would prevent creating new bugs which should have actually been reopened. E.g.: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=564117 which cannot be seen in reportbug, but is actually not fixed (it has been reopened in package libgtk-ruby1.8). If I have found, by using the web, the bug I want to reopen, but still want to use reportbug, it would be really helpful if it let me find it, using filters on closed bugs. Are you asking that reportbug get (somehow, implementative detail) the list of recently (but how much is recent?) closed bug in the whole BTS or for a single package? I am talking about recent bugs for a given package. Somehow I missed that point in the description. Recent could be an option or a simple heuristic, like archived less than one mont ago. Another possible meaning for recent would be In the last X releases of the package, although the relevance of the release count varies heavily from one package to another. so what you're asking is to show archived bugs along with bugs opened and closed-but-not-archived. is that correct? If that's the case, and I'm going to implement it, I will show all the archived bugs, not only the recent ones. So just clarify this and we'll see what we can do. For a give pkg, you already have the list of resolved bugs not archived (that happened after 30 days of inactivity). The bug I gave as an example was archived and reopened, through a new bug report, just 3 days after its archival. But maybe that was an extreme case, because 30 days should be more than enough to consider a bug closed. The way I see it, the user would initially have the list of open and unarchived bugs and, if the bug is not in there, press a Show recently archived button, which would trigger another query to BTS (select bugs of package archived in the last 30 days). Another possibility would be adding 2 radio buttons to the package selection screen, giving a (cumulative) choice on which bugs to retrieve: Open and unarchived bugs, Open, unarchived and recently archived. Don't mix UI details with the concept you'd like to implement: it bloats the text to read with few gain. for the GTK+ there won't be any of such box, radio buttons or so, just configure reportbug via ~/.reportbugrc , for command-line version, there will be a command-line option. Bug#585847: [Pkg-icecast-devel] Bug#585847: logrotate script does not rotate archived log files

This could lead to a full /var/log partition. Thankd for you report. However, the cron script seems to work here.. Are you sure this really is a bug of the icecast2 package ? Well by default icecast rotate the logs itself (move the log file to *.log.old) and not to *.log.date_time as said (my bad) so I guess it this case the logrotate script is useless. Anyway, in the non-default cases (archivelogs set to 1) the files are archived with their timestamp and in this case, the logrotate script does nothing. Bug#511788: fixed in bash-completion 1:1.2-1
Hi, thanks for supplying bash-completion package and for the working bug fix. However I see a side effect, which I don't know if it is a feature or not ? Before this fix when trying to complete a command like chown us[tab] it was completing, if a user username existing, with chown username\: thus, as the bug report mentioned, adding a slash+vertical-dots+space at the end Since this fix, there is only a space added, wich is correcting the reported bug However, before the fix, if you backspace deleted the extra, and then typed a dot . and then triggering [tab] completion again, it would complete with available groups like for example from chown username.group[tab] to chown username.groupname Since the fix, there is not anymore groupname completion I don't know if it is intended, as maybe it is solutioning the stange character from initial bug report, but personally I miss now the groupname completion... cheers and thanks again -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#551034: Newer upstream available
On 17/06/2010 10:17, Roy Marples wrote: The only valid reason for co-existence so far is that some flags have been removed from the commandline that could be used by other people/programs. dhcpcd-4 shipped with some compat code to handle the transition from dhcpcd-123 to dhcpcd-4, to give both developers and users time to migrate. Debian doesn't have this luxury as it skipped dhcpcd-4 entirely! However, a patch can be maintained to add these compat flags back again. I could not find the source to ifup my Ubuntu to find out what flags it passes to dhcpcd - can you tell me please? After careful perusal of the interfaces man page (still can't find the source for ifup to ensure I'm correct), the only options passed to dhcpcd are -h $hostname -i $vendor -I $client -l $leasetime These options still exist and are valid. With the removal (or just non usage) of /etc/defaults/dhcpcd any existing user options are just ignored and the user is expected to put any configuration into /etc/dhcpcd.conf. I've also solved the init script vs network/interfaces issue by grepping for iface * inet dhcp and aborting if such a match is found. As such, I cannot justify a reason for having to maintain co-existance with older dhcpcd versions. The only question remainig that I can see is do we want to attempt to parse /etc/defaults/dhcpcd into /etc/dhcpcd.conf on upgrade? That would requre bash to be installed and I'm not sure that it's worth the time spent. Thanks Roy -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Roy Marples wrote: On 15/06/2010 21:13, Simon Kelley wrote: I have the dhcpcd5 package installed and running. To get the source on any sane debian system, just do apt-get source ifupdown So unless anyone as any other other reasons why co-existance is benefical I'll work on a new dhcpcd package today. I still bear the scars from an email I once got from someone who had driven 200 miles to reboot a box which had dropped off the net as a result of an automatic update to dhcpcd. If it's possible to make a package for dhcpcd 5 which can be installed and, under all circumstances, seamlessly replace dhcpcd 3 installation then that's what should happen, no need for dhcpcd5.deb at all. I think we've already established that such a package can't be done except by stretching the backwards compatibilty features in the existing dhcpcd3 package to breaking point, hence the plan to make a new dhcpcd5 package. Given that we've moving to dhcpcd5, it's highly desirable that merely installing dhcpcd5 doesn't disrupt an existing system which is relying on dhcpcd 3 (or any other DHCP client). Next in the priority list is making the dhcpcd5 package as straightforward as possible, but top of the list is not breaking existing systems simply by installing dhcpcd5. It should be possible for an admin to install dhcpd5, then configure it at leisure and finally remove dhcpcd3 or other client. To achieve this, it's necessary that installing dhcpcd5 doesn't cause automatic removal of dhcpcd3, hence they can't conflict, and therefore must no contain any of the same files. It's also necessary that a new dhcpcd5 installation doesn't start trying to configure interfaces when it is first installed, as these may be (probably are) configured by dhcpcd3 and the wider ifupdown system. Hence my suggestion for an ENABLED flag; though there are other ways to achieve this aim. After careful perusal of the interfaces man page (still can't find the source for ifup to ensure I'm correct), the only

Bug#586171: respect $TERM and/or provide --no-color
RT == Reinhard Tartler siret...@tauware.de writes: RT $ rmadison -u qa ffmpeg All I know is I just did aptitude install ffmpeg. Also it is wrong to assume all TERMs can deal with color. Also it is wrong not to document that NO_COLOR environment variable. RT If you want to propose a specific patch, please post it to RT ffmpeg-de...@mplayerhq.hu to get it reviewed. I'm CCing them to remind them to mention what they do with TERM and NO_COLOR on the ffmpeg man page. Bug#586109: python-gpiv: does not depend on python
Hi, I applied your modification. Though when building the deb package I get: dh_pysupport: Cannot detect default Python version There has been a bugreport #572155 reporting this message as well, but it seems to be solved. Any idea what I can do?
