Bug#593007: syntax/markdown: underscores and asterisks in the middle of words

2010-08-15 Thread martin f krafft
Package: vim-runtime
Version: 2:7.3f.20100812+hg~20e83abf88b1-1
Severity: minor
File: /usr/share/vim/vim73f/syntax/markdown.vim

Underscores (and stars too) that occur in the middle of words create
problems for markdown:

  The new markdown syntax plugin has troubles with underscores
  in_the_middle_of_words.

The expected behaviour is for markdown to emphasise the and of.
However, in syntax highlighting, the first underscore switches the
syntax to `htmlItalic`, but subsequent underscores do not switch it
back.

Bug#593008: syntax/markdown: underscores and asterisks surrounded by spaces

2010-08-15 Thread martin f krafft
Package: vim-runtime
Version: 2:7.3f.20100812+hg~20e83abf88b1-1
Severity: minor
File: /usr/share/vim/vim73f/syntax/markdown.vim

The markdown syntax says that

  If you surround an * or _ with spaces, it’ll be treated as
  a literal asterisk or underscore.

However, syntax highlighting does not recognise that and treats
these characters as formatting characters, despite the surrounding
spaces.

Bug#593011: RFP: icedove-compact-header -- extension to allow message headers to be abbreviated

  Upstream Author : Joachim Herb someb...@example.org
* URL : http://compactheader.mozdev.org/
* License : MPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1
  Programming Lang: Javascript, XML
  Description : extension to allow message headers to be abbreviated

Starting with Thundebird/Iceweasel 3, the compact header view (an
abbreviated way of seeing headers of messages) was removed from the main
distribution of the mail reader and, instead, relegated to an extension.

This package provides the extension that is a development of the code
that was removed from Thunderbird/Iceweasel. In particular, it makes an
economical use of vertical space in a user's monitor and makes it
convenient to use a computer screen like those increasingly present in
netbooks and other mobile computers.

Comments/Problems:

At the “Detect and mount CD-ROM” stage the installation failed.
The error message was “No common CD_ROM drive was detected.”
It suggested loading additional drivers from removable media.
Actually, in ”/dev”, no IDE or ATAPI devices showed up. So the Hard disk was
also not recognized.
The last “testing” build that I was able to install was 07-05-10, which also
had problems,
but at least the IDE devices were detected.

Bug#593015: RFP: halberd -- HTTP load balancer detector

* Package name: halberd
  Version : 0.2.4

  Description : HTTP load balancer detector

To cope with heavy traffic loads, web site administrators often install
load balancer devices. These machines hide (possibly) many real web
servers behind a virtual IP. They receive HTTP requests and redirect
them to the real web servers in order to share the traffic between them.
.
Halberd is a tool aimed at discovering real servers behind virtual IPs.

Bug#592187: Bug#576838: virtio network crashes again

2010-08-15 Thread Lukas Kolbe
Hi Ben, Greg,

I was finally able to identify the patch series that introduced the fix
(they were introduced to -stable in 2.6.33.2):

cb63112 net: add __must_check to sk_add_backlog
a12a9a2 net: backlog functions rename
51c5db4 x25: use limited socket backlog
c531ab2 tipc: use limited socket backlog
37d60aa sctp: use limited socket backlog
9b3d968 llc: use limited socket backlog
230401e udp: use limited socket backlog
20a92ec tcp: use limited socket backlog
ab9dd05 net: add limit for socket backlog

After applying these to 2.6.32.17, I wasn't able to trigger the failure
anymore.

230401e didn't apply cleanly with git cherry-pick on top of 2.6.32.17,
so there might be some additional work needed.

@Greg: would it be possible to have these fixes in the next 2.6.32? See
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=592187#69 for details:
they fix a guest network crash during heavy nfs-io using virtio.

Kind regards,
Lukas

 RubyGems 1.3.7 installed

 === 1.3.7 / 2010-05-13

 NOTE:

 http://rubygems.org is now the default source for downloading gems.

 You may have sources set via ~/.gemrc, so you should replace
 http://gems.rubyforge.org with http://rubygems.org

 http://gems.rubyforge.org will continue to work for the forseeable future.

 New features:

 * `gem` commands
   * `gem install` and `gem fetch` now report alternate platforms when a
 matching one couldn't be found.
   * `gem contents` --prefix is now the default as specified in --help. Bug
 #27211 by Mamoru Tasaka.
   * `gem fetch` can fetch of old versions again. Bug #27960 by Eric Hankins.
   * `gem query` and friends output now lists platforms. Bug #27856 by Greg
 Hazel.
   * `gem server` now allows specification of multiple gem dirs for
 documentation. Bug #27573 by Yuki Sonoda.
   * `gem unpack` can unpack gems again. Bug #27872 by Timothy Jones.
   * `gem unpack` now unpacks remote gems.
   * --user-install is no longer the default. If you really liked it, see
 Gem::ConfigFile to learn how to set it by default. (This change was made
 in 1.3.6)
 * RubyGems now has platform support for IronRuby. Patch #27951 by Will Green.

 Bug fixes:

 * Require rubygems/custom_require if --disable-gem was set. Bug #27700 by
   Roger Pack.
 * RubyGems now protects against exceptions being raised by plugins.
 * rubygems/builder now requires user_interaction. Ruby Bug #1040 by Phillip
   Toland.
 * Gem::Dependency support #version_requirements= with a warning. Fix for old
   Rails versions. Bug #27868 by Wei Jen Lu.
 * Gem::PackageTask depends on the package dir like the other rake package
   tasks so dependencies can be hooked up correctly.

Bug#593054: installation-reports: Inconsistent partition naming during boot

2010-08-15 Thread James B
Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

Boot method: CD
Image version: debian-testing-sparc-CD-1.iso, 7-5-10 build date.
Date: 7-11-10

Machine: Sun Ultra 10

Comments/Problems:

linux-image-2.6.32-5-sparc64 was selected for installation.

System would not reboot. It ended up in openboot at the “ok” prompt.
Last message was “Fast Data Access MMU Miss”
(WOW. This STILL has not been fixed).
I assumed this was the same problem as with the 02-08-2010 build.
The problem was ameliorated then in terms of “fixing” bugs(569719, related =
565639  562594).
Did so again:
Did rescue into an installer shell within hda2.
chroot /target
mount /dev/hda1  /boot
silo  -u  -f

Then attempted to reboot.
The boot process could not find “/dev/hda2” for root. It had been renamed
“/dev/sda2” in the boot environment.
But it was still /dev/hda2 on the disk. I changed hda2 to sda2 in
/boot/silo.conf . This allowed the boot sequence to complete.
Now I am left with disk partitions named sda* instead of hda*.
What is up with this? Are we changing naming conventions?
Will this inconsistency be fixed?
Thanks.

Bug#593055: Several bugs already solved in version 1.2.1

2010-08-15 Thread David Marín Carreño
Package: gnomint
Version: 1.1.0-1
Severity: important

With gnomint 1.1.0-1 there are several bugs (and regressions comparing
to version 1.0.0) that could make gnomint useless for several future
Debian stable users.

The dependencies are the same, could gnomint package in squeeze be
upgraded to version 1.2.1 (currently in experimental)?

The actual bugs are following:
* You cannot change CA policies, neither using gnomint nor gnomint-cli.
* gnoMint gnoMint-cli allowed entering invalid DSA keylengths
* Export to pkcs12 creates incomplete file
* Segmentation fault while generating CRL in gnomint-cli
* Segmentation fault opening a CA database in which there is a revoked
CA with certificates.

Bug#593057: Wrong Dutch mnemonic for Save as when closing gedit

2010-08-15 Thread Patrick Holthuizen
Package: gedit
Version: 2.22.3-1+lenny1

In the dutch translation of gedit a wrong mnemonic is assigned to the
Opslaan als action when closing gedit after entering some text. When
gedit is closed after entering some text a dialog appears with three
available actions:

Sluiten zonder opslaan (mnemonic Z) (English might be: Discard changes)
Annuleren (mnemonic A) (English might be: Cancel)
Opslaan als (mnemonic A) English might be: Save as)

I think the last action has a wrong mnemonic because the character A is
already reserved for Annuleren. I suggest to change Opslaan als /
Save as into Opslaan / Save where the Dutch mnemonic is S.

Bug#593059: The locale setting affects Samba daemons.

Samba daemon must start under C locale.
In /etc/init.d/samba, the locale must be set with C.

Why are localized messages being sent when there is this code in
smbd/chgpasswd.c?:

#ifdef WITH_PAM
if (lp_pam_password_change()) {
bool ret;
#ifdef HAVE_SETLOCALE
const char *prevlocale = setlocale(LC_ALL, C);
#endif

if (as_root)
become_root();

if (pass) {
ret = smb_pam_passchange(pass-pw_name, oldpass,
newpass);
} else {
ret = smb_pam_passchange(name, oldpass, newpass);
}

if (as_root)
unbecome_root();

#ifdef HAVE_SETLOCALE
setlocale(LC_ALL, prevlocale);
#endif

return ret;
}
#endif

Samba already includes code specifically to set the locale to C before
invoking PAM in order to avoid this issue. So where are these localized
messages coming from?

Bug#514305: smarty: Please sync the install path with Ubuntu

2010-08-15 Thread Raphael Hertzog
On Thu, 12 Aug 2010, Thijs Kinkhorst wrote:

 left with this inelegant way forward to unify the packages again. Obviously

Are you taking smarty over?

  But this won't work automatically if plugins are installed in libs/plugins/.
  You will have to add a preinst snippet that moves files around...

 /usr/share is the domain of the packaging system. So if there's anything in
 libs/plugins, that is installed by another package and we should rather not
 be
 moving that around in preinst. Those packages should be updated instead, no?
 You indicate this already for smarty-gettext and smarty-validate.

Yes, they must be updated instead. Smarty will have to add
conflicts:/breaks: statements to ensure they are upgraded.

But there's the possibility that some plugins have been manually installed
by the user.

With breaks, you would have to setup the symlink in postinst because
that's the only point where you can be sure that the other packages have
been upgraded.

With conflicts, you know in preinst already that other packages have been
removed or upgraded already and you can deal with the symlink there in
that case.

Bug#593061: Pointer moving between windows not detected correctly

2010-08-15 Thread Ulrich Eckhardt
Package: fluxbox
Version: 1.1.1+dfsg2-1

When moving between two windows and at the same time between groups, the focus
is not updated correctly. Following steps illustrate the setup:

 * Delete your .fluxbox, I'm assuming a default configuration.
 * Start fluxbox.
 * In the Tab Options (Right-click on the background) turn off Tabs in
Titlebar to get external tabs.
 * In the Focus Model, select Mouse Focus and Mouse Tab Focus.

You now have a setup where you change the focus with just the mouse movement,
no clicks involved. It allows you to switch between unrelated windows and, by
moving over the tabs, to switch within one group of windows.

Now, in order to reproduce the buggy behavior, use following steps:
 * Create three windows A, B, C (I used three uxterms, but it doesn't matter).
 * Combine two of the three to a group, by middle-dragging the tab of one onto
the other, so you get A, [B, C]
 * Top-align all three windows so that they overlap partially:
   [A*]  [B|C]
   ,-+,
   [ ]]
In the picture, A has the focus and is on top. The important part is that you
can move seamlessly between these windows, hence the alignment. You can also
position B and C below, but the above setup is easiest to explain and
reproduce.
 * Now, move the pointer from the A window onto either of the B or C tabs.

The last step should have the effect of switching focus away from A to the
according window in the B/C group. However, it only switches the focus to the
B/C group, it does not switch to the tab's window within that group.

Note that this is a rather old bug, it didn't come up with the version that
recently entered testing.

Cheers!

Uli

Bug#593069: totem: Totem window can become larger than the screen for files with long comments

2010-08-15 Thread Aaron Barany
Package: totem
Version: 2.30.2-2+b1
Severity: normal

When opening a file, the main window will automatically resize so the entire
Properties tab fits in the window. This causes a problem for files with a large
Comments section under the properties, as it can cause the window to resize
so it is larger than the screen. Additionally, the window cannot be resized to
be smaller to fit in the screen. For example, this MP3 on OC Remix
(http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02081/) has the lyrics embedded in it, which
causes the totem window to become ridiculously large when opened. Ideally a
text field with a scroll bar should be used so the window can be any size.

Bug#592945: mapivi: the add coment and edit comment windows do not have any buttons

2010-08-15 Thread Stuart Pook

An extra data point, I installed mapivi from svn (see
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mapivi/develop), and that version has all the
correct buttons on the Add comment and Edit comment windows. This would seem to
imply that the problem is not due to my version of perl-tk. (I modified
mapivi.pl to set program_data_path to the directory where I downloaded mapivi).

When I start Mapivi 0.9.7 (the Debian version) as mapivi . in a directory
containing 239 photos, I get the standard message on stdout:

and on stderr 3168 times the line:

When I try the menu entry Edit IPTC/IIM info, I get a message (which I cannot
cut and paste):

 And I just found the lvm2 bug. Reassigning.

No worries. I've not had an issue with the snapshotting myself, but
it looks like there's a common underlying cause in the other bug.
I've certainly seen issues shutting down where the swap devices on
LVM were kept open and wouldn't allow a clean shutdown of the VG
or MD device it was on.

Moving the mouse pointer while pressing the control key will drag the image.
Usually, releasing the mouse button makes the image snap back to its source.
Ocassionally, however, a green + symbol is added to the mouse pointer, and
the entire desktop becomes unresponsive. Clicking the mouse has no effect
anymore, and it is impossible to focus on another window using the mouse or
keyboard. Switching to console, however, still works fine, and killing the
browser on the command line restores the rest of the desktop to normal.

Probably a duplicate of bugs 565346 and 592956.

Not sure if this is already fixed in latest WebkitGTK+ from unstable or
of it needs to be backported?

I agree it sounds like a duplicate of 565346.

Bug#593059: The locale setting affects Samba daemons.

Hello

 Samba already includes code specifically to set the locale to C before
 invoking PAM in order to avoid this issue.  So where are these localized
 messages coming from?

In my environment, pam password change = yes did not work well at first and
in my log.smbd, there were these messages below:

-
[2010/03/01 11:59:46,  3] auth/pampass.c:smb_pam_passchange_conv(369)
  smb_pam_passchange_conv: Could not find reply for PAM prompt: SOME

  smb_pam_passchange: PAM: Password Change Failed for user monyo!
-

Two SOME JAPANESE MESSAGE are actually displayed in Japanese.

After I changed the terminal's locale to C and restarted samba,
pam password change = yes worked.

Hmmm, I will examine more.

 the dependency on libreadline6 which depends on readline-common costs
 about 450 kb of disk space on minimal Debian installations (given that
 apt is still installed).

 Please consider building additional binary packages without the
 dependency on libreadline. Since dpkg depends on libbzip2 anyway adding
 --without-bzip2 would not save any additional disk space. Due the size
 of the binaries, adding -Os to CFLAGS seems to be appropriate for
 packages meant to be tiny replacements.

What is the rationale behind this request (in general just saving 450 kb
is IMO not a compelling argument to create a new package)? We usually
don't build a dozen binary packages of the same source just to fulfill
all user wishes of possible library combinations. Will this be useful
for more users than just you or saying it in other words: why don't you
build and use this variant locally?

Bug#593060: RM: collectd [mips] -- ROM; Build-Depends on openjdk-6-jdk

I can disable java support on mips, thus removing the Build-Dep on
openjdk-6 on that arch. Imho, that'd be a more appropriate approach.
I've got a few other issues, I'd like to have fixed for Squeeze, so this
change could probably go into Squeeze as well. I'm planning to upload
some time this week.

Would this approach be fine for you as well?

Oh yeah, now I see what you are talking about. Yes, it leaves all the
files that haven't been overwritten in place and you have to delete them
manually. I never actually realized this, because I very seldom move
multiple folders and when you are moving just one folder you
subconsciously hit F8 afterwards.

 If you insist the current behaviour has a purpose, it would be better to at
 least give the user an option to clean up one way or the other.

 Kind of, but I'm surprised by this inconsitency between MC and other
 programs, including MC's own way of moving multiple files.

Well, you argument does not convince me, but what is clear at this point
is that it's a general issue with mc and definitively not the Debian
package.

I am not qualified to make a final decision on what will be implemented
and what not, so I escalate this bug upstream and subscribe you to the
updates. If you manage not convince the developers that it should be the
way you want it to, good for you, bad for me :-)

Bug#592941: [Pkg-mc-devel] Bug#592941: Bug#592941: mc: interrupted move causes duplicated files

 Well, you argument does not convince me, but what is clear at this point
 is that it's a general issue with mc and definitively not the Debian
 package.

Indeed, I should have reported it upstream in the first place.

 I escalate this bug upstream and subscribe you to the updates.

Thanks!

 If you manage not convince the developers that it should be the
 way you want it to, good for you, bad for me :-)

Actually, for some errors other than ENOSPC, your choice does make sense.
If an EIO happens, deleting the source wouldn't be the best option.

Bug#579166: ntfsreloc

2010-08-15 Thread Tim Small
Hi,

I've needed to correct a Windows installation with incorrect geometry
information stored in it (due to this bug).

This tool is an alternative to hexediting the boot sector manually...

http://www.linux-ntfs.org/doku.php?id=contrib:ntfsreloc

Thanks,

Tim.

 Hi,

 During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on

 About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
 of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot. Internet was not
 accessible from the build systems.

Hi

It appears I did not enable output from tests and I cannot reproduce it
my own chroot. Can you please apply this patch and rebuild so I can see
the error it gives?
