Bug#594461: apt-setup: Should propose using t-p-u when testing is installed
Quoting Joey Hess (jo...@debian.org): Does it really make sense for users to use t-p-u? Anything can be uploaded there, rejected by the release team, and no upgrade path is necessarily provided for a system that installed a package from there and ends up tracking stable. Well, after thinking a little bit more, I wonder if the case of users installing testing *and then* wanting to track stable is really what we want to address here. And I also wonder whether that happens often (that someone installs testing and then sticks to stable once the testing (s)he installed has been released. I more see users who install testing as those users you want to address with your CUT proposal, ie people who will always follow testing. In such case, it then makes some sense to *not* use the release name in sources.list. And, of course, the question of upgrade path to stable is becoming less important. OTOH, not being able to guarantee an upgrade path from t-p-u to (the next) stable is probably not a good idea if we want people to use t-p-u (which was the original point of this discussion). Couldn't that be turned into a requirement? signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I've brought this up with the security team and webkit maintainers [1],[2], and there has so far been no objection. However, I also didn't get any responses either way. You may want to try to touch base with either/both teams directly. I think removal is the only supportable course of action. The secure-testing list is inappropriate to ask the security team about a package in Lenny. Please use the appropriate contact and get them to reply. Some CVEs are listed as minor issue - no DSA, so it wouldn't be valid to remove it for that. (Sadly it seems that there's no overview to list a package's vulnerabilities in Lenny at a glance?) Bug#565148: racoon dies too early preventing nfs share to be unmounted
Andrew, i totaly misunderstood your bug-report. Here is what i got: In previous versions (like yours 1:0.7.1-1.5) racoon had no stop-link in the runlevels 0 and 6 (halt and reboot) so that was triggering sendsigs to kill the remaining processes. Since 1:0.7.3-1 there are also links in runlevel 0 and 6 for killing racoon. Could you please try to verify this like using the version from testing and see if your nfs-share is unmounted cleanly? I'm going to close this bug after your response. Stefan signature.asc Description: Digital signature

If you can convince the upstream Emacs maintainers to change this (I'm sure they would consider a well-written and well-argued patch), you stand a better chance for seeing this fixed. I'm sorry, but I don't imagine Debian would be willing to take a patch for this sort of esoteric preference. For what it's worth, I think I used to be able to work around this at least in Gnus. The hint in the documentation for mail-signature points to writing a simple function to insert your .signature file without the sigdashes. From the debug log I've recreated the statements used to create and fill it, and have two other files containing a single query each: one exactly as above, and another with all references to CoreCache removed. With the CoreCache parts of the query removed, it's very snappy: % time sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql banshee-next-shuffle-by-album-no-core-cache.sql 4478|Heartland|1282844295|1277228957 sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql0.22s user 0.04s system 97% cpu 0.267 total But in its original form, it's reliably a hundred times slower, taking over 22s: % time sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql banshee-next-shuffle-by-album.sql 1063|Stars On The Wall|1282654498|1272661309 sqlite3 banshee.db.copy banshee-init-core-cache.sql22.28s user 0.07s system 99% cpu 22.377 total It's equally slow if I make CoreCache a regular table. Bug#594561: firmware-ralink: fails to detect APs at frequency 2.472GHz
Hello, to tell you the truth I was scared at looking at the http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.kernel/54624/ . The reason is that probably you are right, but unfortunately I am no such an expert to get a solution from the thread. I am looking in the packages repositories of debian an I am not able to find crda. On the other hand in the package contents search the 80211 stuff is related to linux headers, which I have installed. One thing that might help is that when I used iw list before, I got something like nl80211 not found. After that, I thought that one module should be loaded. I loaded mac80211. I checked it was (and I got mac and cfg). Now, when I type iw list, I got nothing (neither error nor result). Everything and what you told me makes me feel that the solution is nearby and easy; but I don't know how to go on ... The problem is that I cannot see my AP (which is in 2.472GHz; channel 13). I can see the AP (and connect to it) at the same position in another computer (internal wifi) and, in the same computer and stick with Windows 7 (now completely removed ;-) ). After some days of work, I obtain the following information: the stick is only capable (under my conf. in Debian) to see 11 channels in the 2.4GHz range (NOT including 2.472GHz). Also the APs detected (neighbours) are with signals much weaker than in the same computer and stick and position in Windows 7. Bug#594570: texlive-latex-extra: missing package: invoice.sty (Squeeze)
Package: texlive-latex-extra Version: 2009-9 Severity: important The invoice.sty is missing in Debian squeeze. So doc's uning this package won't compile -- Package-specific info: If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries (latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the error in your report. Please run your example with (pdf)latex -recorder ... (or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in your home directory. Bug#594571: libapache2-mod-suphp: conflicts with libapache2-mod-php5
Package: libapache2-mod-php5 Version: 0.7.1-1 Severity: important When I have both mod-php5 and mod-suphp enabled, with the default .load files in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled, opening a php document uses mod-php5 rather than mod-suphp. I think that the source of the problem is that apache sees *two* AddType commands for .php* files in its configuration, and so it uses the first one it sees, which is presumably mod-php5. The effect of this is that the commands are run as the webserver user rather than using suphp. In the case that suphp is configured to allow user directories to be used, this means that php files in /home/*/public_html get served as raw files (i.e., as source) rather than as processed php. The only sensible solutions are probably: (1) make libapache2-mod-suphp conflict with libapache2-mod-php5 (2) have the .conf file read something like: AddType application/x-httpd-suphp .suphp instead, and a readme which explains that either files should be suffixed with .suphp, or libapache2-mod-php5 should be uninstalled and the .conf file can then be modified back to the way it was. Bug#594572: gdm3: nt domain users (from a perfectly working winbind) don't appear in the logon screen user list
Package: gdm3 Version: 2.30.2-4 Severity: normal Default Debian install with Gnome, Samba, Winbind. I joined an NT domain, set up Samba and Winbind, included Winbind in PAM and nsswitch.conf, it's all good. Winbind is configured to use the default domain so I can login with the name 'fejes.jozsef'. Winbind can also enumerate all users and groups. However, no domain users appear on the login screen's user list, only local users. Bug#594574: libapache2-mod-suphp: misleading default config file
Package: libapache2-mod-suphp Version: 0.7.1-1 Hi! I like this package - thanks for packaging it! I just hit a snag with the config file. There are two bits which read: ;Path all scripts have to be in docroot=/var/www:${HOME}/public_html ;Check wheter script is within DOCUMENT_ROOT check_vhost_docroot=true The first suggests that files in users' public_html directories are allowed, but then the second means that they are not. (Somehow, on Debian systems, userdirs seem to be picked up by the default vhost. Not sure of the details of that one, though.) There should perhaps be some hint of this in the default config file? For example if your try something like: file { /root/blablubb: source = puppet:///modules/blablubb/mysource.txt, } Puppet apply will fail. Bug#587887: linux-base: please suppress useless debconf messages on first install
Hi Ben, for the record, this workaround works for me: build a custom udeb and put the following into a file in /usr/lib/post-base-installer.d/$some_filename # work around # 587887 grep -v cdrom /target/etc/fstab /target/etc/fstab.new mv /target/etc/fstab /target/etc/fstab.bak mv /target/etc/fstab.new /target/etc/fstab # avoid warning that no boatloader is installed by installing one early chroot /target apt-get -y install grub mkdir -p /target/boot/grub chroot /target update-grub Preseeding that warning about no bootloader didnt work. I used: linux-base linux-base/disk-id-manual-boot-loader error On Freitag, 27. August 2010, Ben Hutchings wrote: I think we've discussed this before. Yes. It uses this heuristic: # No upgrade work is necessary during a fresh system installation. # But since linux-base is a new dependency of linux-image-* and did # not exist until needed for the libata transition, we cannot simply # test whether this is a fresh installation of linux-base. Instead, # we test: # - does /etc/fstab exist yet (this won't even work without it), and # - are any linux-image-* packages installed yet? sub is_fresh_installation { if (-f '/etc/fstab') { for (`dpkg-query 2/dev/null --showformat '\${status}\\n' -W 'linux-image-*'`) { return 0 if / installed\n$/; } } return 1; } If you think this gives the wrong answer, please propose an alternative. I cant come up with a reliable one. As we already discussed, not having /var/log/installer must not mean anything :/ Note that if you hack the lenny installer to install a backported kernel and suppress the libata transition code in linux-base, this may result in configuration files that use unstable device names. You should consider using the testing installer instead. That's not feasable due to other customisations we've done. The above workaround works for us, so... cheers, Holger signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Hello Julien, I had a problem similar to yours with a BGT-31 : when let it going in 'navilink' mode (to download traces on a computer), I had problems contacting it (it worked from time to time). I finally discovered that I had installed the gpsd package, and when plugging my GPS, udev not only loaded the pl2003 module, but also launched 'gpsd' service, which locked access to the device ! Perhaps you have the same problem ? I had to kill gpsd before using navilink tool. Bug#594579: Sympa crashes after install if the database already exists
Package: sympa Version: unknown Here is a copy of a report by N. To the users of the web interface it would appear like one server. Both installs need to reference the same sympa DB on the DB server, for obvious reasons. When trying to install on the second node the package tries to create the DB then the sympa install fails completely because the DB already exists due to the successful install on the first node. Is what I'm trying to do even possible with the debian package? If so, how do I get it to do it? Sympa is not supposed to crash if the database already exists. At least mknfonts works, too. Thanks, that's good news. I wonder why libkvm-dev was added as build-dependency during the initial GNU/kFreeBSD support (#267889). Probably the kernel+system was less capable 5 years ago, and it was actually needed. Anything else I should check (some GUI stuff perhaps) if it still works? Yes. Because such a change is a bit risky at this point of the release preparation, please do the following: 1. Check if there are any compilation warnings for Source/NSProcessInfo.m 2. Run some non-trivial apps (cenon.app, gworkspace.app, cynthiune.app) and see if you can spot some bugs (except the usual ones, I mean :-)). 3. Compile and run the attached test program. As far as I can see from the code, -[NSProcessInfo operatingSystemName] will issue a warning and return the incorrect GSGNULinuxOperatingSystem. Bug#594580: git-buildpackage: git-dch: foo is not a git repository - though it is a working git-svn repository
Package: git-buildpackage Version: 0.5.4 Severity: normal I've a git-svn clone of a svn repository and want to use git-dch. It works fine in the toplevel directory, but when running git-dch inside a subdirectory it complains with: foo/x.y is not a git repository Running 'mkdir .git ; git-dch rmdir .git' works though. :) Would be great if git-dch wouldn't check for existence of .git but use another approach for detecting a valid git repository. regards, -mika- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#536229: Workaround.
Hit this from a different angle, via request tracker using oracle-client and Net::LDAP. In my opinion the bug's really with the oracle client. I was able to work around this by setting LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 before launching the application. That doesn't seem to have hurt. I should add, I've no idea if the oracle-client is actually attempting to use its internal SSL library or not in its connection. It's quite possible that if it does, then this workaround will cause a segfault somewhere under DBD::Oracle rather than IO::Socket::SSL. -- jan grant, ISYS, University of Bristol. http://www.bris.ac.uk/ Tel +44 (0)117 3317661 http://ioctl.org/jan/ Goth isn't dead, it's just lying very still and sucking its cheeks in. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#594579: Sympa crashes after install if the database already exists
Hi David, On Fri, Aug 27, 2010 at 01:01:01PM +0200, David Verdin wrote: Here is a copy of a report by N. Gibbs in sympa-users: What I'd like to end up with is a 2 node sympa cluster that sits behind a server doing IPVS to load balance between them. Is there any Debian specific process that makes it crash? What is it and why does it make Sympa crash? Thanks for the bugreport. It seems to me that sympa does not crash, but the surrounding install routines fails. The install routines should offer the choice of setting up database configuration, vut should also allow to skip that and instead do it manually. The ability to skip guided setup is exactly to make room for more advanced situations like multi-node setups. If indeed it is possible to skip guided database configuration, then this is not really a bug, but a considerate limitation in the user-friendly wrapping: The administrator should then choose to skip, and instead customize configuration files and databases manually after package install. If it is not possible to skip database configuration, then there is indeed a bug in the packaging routines, which we should fix.
