Bug#594711: Same Problem Upgrading to Newest Package in Testing

I had to revert the system to a backup to restore email service. Even
though I eventually got the package to install correctly (after manually
upgrading the database files), I had problems converting from the
slapd.conf file to the slapd.d config directory structure. For some
reason it wouldn't transfer over the Kolab information correctly.

However, I can run the upgrade again if you like and give you the output.
Or is there a log on the system somewhere that would show the output you
 are looking for?

This should be recorded in /var/log/apt/term.log.

insserv: Starting dhcp-eth1 depends on stop-bootlogd and therefore on system

Based on this I would guess the bug is in the script
/etc/init.d/dhcp-eth1, which have incorrect boot dependencies. Which
package did this script come from (dpkg -S /etc/init.d/dhcp-eth1
should tell)?

Please provide the output from /usr/share/insserv/make-testsuite and
'/usr/share/insserv/check-initd-order -g' to make it possible to debug
this init.d script dependency loop.

2010-09-05 Thread Andreas Berger
Package: xserver-xorg-core

[UPGRADE] xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.7-3 - 2:1.7.7-4

i noticed that xorg performance had severely decreased:
windows take half a second or longer to redraw when another window is dragged
across them (before, i coudn't even perceive that a window is redrawn on such
an occasion)
smooth scrolling in iceweasel is no longer so smooth
xorg cpu usage idles at about 8% with only one gnome-terminal open and spikes
up high on minor window management actions

no compositing in use, no xorg.conf, standard gnome desktop
hope this is the right package, i am never sure
and tell me if i should provide any further information

 Hello,

Here is a patch to fix the build on hurd-i386.

Thanks for the patch. I had noticed the SA_SIGINFO related FTBFS, but
hadn't taken time to write the patch myself yet.

Cheers,

Mike

Bug#595568: aegisub: package description contains irrelevant information

2010-09-05 Thread Arthur de Jong
Subject: aegisub: package description contains irrelevant information
Package: aegisub
Version: 2.1.8-0.0
Severity: minor

The package description begins with:

| An advanced subtitle editor for Windows, and UNIX-like systems, such
| as Linux, Mac OS X and BSD. It is open source software and free for
| any use.

Since it is in Debian/main without loss of information this can be
reduced to:

| An advanced subtitle editor.

which is a bit minimal. It would be nice if the package description
mentions which formats it supports (e.g. can I use vobsub, .srt, etc).
Also, the short description has Advance instead of Advanced.

Anyway, thanks for packaging it.

Since the last update (almost a year ago), I finally got phpdocumentor
packaged up. I have packaged it so that the files with the problematic
licenses aren't included.

I need someone to help test and, hopefully, to upload this.

Let me know if you're still interested in this package,

Please test, if the package extracts check testfile in the root of the

It was doing the wrong thing on sid, too. Thanks for the report, I dropped

I've uploaded a fixed version, could you check that it indeed fix the

Bug#595575: listen comment is misleading wrt. IPv4/IPv6

2010-09-05 Thread martin f krafft
Package: dovecot
Version: 1:1.2.13-1
Severity: minor
Tags: ipv6

The comment for the listen/ssl_listen statement is misleading:

  # IP or host address where to listen in for connections. It's not
  # currently possible to specify multiple addresses. * listens in
  # all IPv4 interfaces. [::] listens in all IPv6 interfaces, but
  # may also listen in all IPv4 interfaces depending on the
  # operating system.

First of all, if I specify [::], then dovecot 1.2 will only listen
on IPv6, not IPv4, independent of the net.ipv6.bindv6only setting.
This is a change from 1.0, where [::] with net.ipv6.bindv6only==0
would also accept IPv4 connections.

And second, the way to get IPv4+IPv6 both working is to specify

  *, [::]

which is a bit in contrast to what the comment says about multiple
addresses.

Thanks to Kurt Roeckx for help in debugging this.

it needs to update more often than wine proper, as it refers to outside
locations.

I'd vote for having it as a separate package.

Bug#595576: selinux-policy-default: Quietly prevents mdadm from writing to unconfined terminals

2010-09-05 Thread Devin Carraway
Package: selinux-policy-default
Version: 2:0.0.20080702-6
Severity: normal

Lenny's refpolicy seems to prevent mdadm from writing to an interactive
(unconfined) tty, although I'm somewhat mystified as to the specific cause.
mdadm has its own domain, defined by the raid refpolicy module; run as a
monitoring daemon, as it often is, it lives in mdadm_t.

Run from an unconfined_t shell, though, it's unable to write to stdout or
stderr, despite that it does seem able to read the block devices and do its
other work. Disabling enforcing mode restores its ability to write to the
tty, as does piping stdout stderr through cat. Running mdadm under strace
shows no -EPERM errors on the writes to fds 1 and 2 (and there are no kernel
audit errors logged), although the output never reaches the terminal.

Some sample output (or lack thereof):

It doesn't read will soon be deprecated but really *is* deprecated,

completely unsupported in the future.

If one day, we have a backport of php6 in Squeeze (which sound really

obsolete at some point), nusoap will have serious issues with a big
crash. I don't think it's reasonable to leave things the way they are

Did you try the test case that i attached on the previous message? With
error_reporting(E_ALL) it serializes a xml document to a file and then reads
and unserializes it back without noticing any error or warning interfering the
overall operation. The problem may be related to your code.

Anyway, it's silly to discuss the seriousness of the bug anyway, we just
need to have it fixed for Squeeze. The fix is just remove 3 characters
in the Unserialize.php, so it's trivial. If you don't have time to fix
it, let me know, and I will NMU the fix.

As i can't reproduce the bug i can't prepare a fix for it. Don't hesitate to
make the NMU if you feel that it is needed and you are sure that it won't
introduce any flaws. Anyway, in my opinion it would be a good idea to report
this upstream, it can be done at [1]

Bug#595446: ntop: GPL code links openssl without a license exception

2010-09-05 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi Luca

On http://people.gnome.org/~markmc/openssl-and-the-gpl.html I found the
following suggestion:

In addition, as a special exception, the copyright holders give
permission to link the code of portions of this program with the
OpenSSL library under certain conditions as described in each
individual source file, and distribute linked combinations
 including the two.
You must obey the GNU General Public License in all respects
for all of the code used other than OpenSSL. If you modify
file(s) with this exception, you may extend this exception to your
version of the file(s), but you are not obligated to do so. If you
do not wish to do so, delete this exception statement from your
version. If you delete this exception statement from all source
files in the program, then also delete it here.

And then modify each source file that make use of openssl. This is
what wget use for example.

On the openssl page
http://www.openssl.org/support/faq.html#LEGAL2
I found the following suggestion, which sounds easier

This program is released under the GPL with the additional exemption that
compiling, linking, and/or using OpenSSL is allowed.

However all this depends on that it is actually your code that
you add this for. I do not know who developed the openssl part of the
code.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

// Ola

Bug#595450: ntop: ascii data files in /etc is a violation of FHS

2010-09-05 Thread Ola Lundqvist
severity 595450 important
thanks

Hi Jordan

I suggest that you simply mark them as configuration files. Someone could
actually be interested in modifying them. Rare, yes but it could very well
be the case.

But if you have a different solution that is ok as well.

However I do not find any statement in chapter 9.1.1 that claim that this
problem is a serious violation. Where do you find that?

As you have not yet adopted ntop (even if you are close to it), I'm lowering
this bug to important.

Best regards,

There are some pending patches for the native mkv demuxer.

Bug#594733: bzip2: missing symlink

The original bug reporter might have been not clear enough...

If you compare with the lines below:

 dpkg -c lib32bz2-1.0_1.0.5-4_amd64.deb | grep libbz2.so.1
 -rw-r--r-- root/root 70428 2010-01-20 00:52 ./usr/lib32/libbz2.so.1.0.4
 lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2010-01-20 00:52 ./usr/lib32/libbz2.so.1.0 -
libbz2.so.1.0.4

you will see that the binary package lib32bz2-1.0 has the symlink.

But it doesn't have the /usr/lib32/libbz2.so.1 symlink, which is crucial
here. BTW, the lib64bz2-1.0 package has the very same problem.

2010-09-05 Thread Julien Cristau
Source: remmina-plugins
Version: 0.8.2-1

Hi,

your package links with both libjpeg8 and gtk. gtk depends on
libjpeg62, which in lenny doesn't have versioned symbols, so this risks
breaking partial upgrades. Please use libjpeg62 instead (change your
build-dep to libjpeg-dev).

Cheers,

flashplayer-mozilla or ia32-libs-libnspr4. Those two packages are from
www.debian-multimedia.org instead of debian, and I'm not sure how to
 proceed.

The issue with missing dependant libraries in the basic distribution concerns
me a little, but unless ia32-libs are prepared to package them, then
debian-multimedia is the easiest way to install them.

Just out of interest, when the segfault occurs, is there anything on the
console which indicates what the problem is? If you have started your browser
from the GNOME/KDE menu, then the contents of .xsession-errors would be helpful.

Hi Hector,

On Samstag, 4. September 2010, Hector Romojaro wrote:

 server.

No. That's not the real problem :)

Postgresql package is suggested by dotlrn on the control file,
but it's not a dependency because it's possible to install dotlrn with
an external postgresql database. The installer asks about the database
location, and creates the database wherever it is.

So, is it really a bug? Should I add a postgresql strict dependency, and
forgot about installing with a remote database?

No, that's the wrong solution. The right solution is to deal gracefully if no
postgresql is (locally) available.

I'm not sure whether this is a bug in grep-aptavail or in apt-build.

Not in grep-aptavail, at least, I'm pretty sure. That error message comes from
apt-cache dumpavail, which grep-aptavail calls.

I'm reassigning this to apt-build, since it does ship a sources.list.d file
which is named incorrectly.

BTW, this seems to be the same issue as in the archived report #471668. It was
supposedly fixed in 0.12.33, but that version contains the broken file. The
file was introduced in 0.12.29.

Bug#595592: ipset-source: fails to compile on recent kernel

2010-09-05 Thread Adrian von Bidder
Package: ipset-source
Version: 2.5.0-1

Heyho!

Trying to compile the ipset kernel module against 2.6.35-trunk-kirkwood
(that means: armel); gcc 4.4.4-8; fails with [1]

That said: checking http://ipset.netfilter.org/changelog.html, it seems that
ipset 2.5 is ancient, so perhaps a newer version could be uploaded? Version
4.3 is supposed to support kernel 2.6.35

2010-09-05 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Christian PERRIER (bubu...@debian.org):

While using a Xft-enabled Emacs23, I noticed that some fonts included
in this package have wide Arabic diacritics, almost taking up the
whole line. I did some testing, and I think that this problem is
caused by the large values of width of diacritics used in some of
   these fonts.

Some of the diacritic glyphs in some fonts have negative width, and I
think it is causing this weired behaviour in Emacs. I'm going to fix it,
but I guess emacs should handle negative glyph widths in a better way.

As I understand, that will mean a new upstream version release in
 Arabeyes.org. Am I right

If that's correct, please keep us posted so that we can fix the font
in Debian (and later on Ubuntu).

Has there been any progress on this?

Yesterday I was finally able to run a quick test but transcoding failed with a

However, I udpated my Nokia 770 from OS2006 to OS2007 Hacker Edition, so this

I'll report as soon as I do the test. Thanks!

I tried to take a look at the changes made in src:2.6.32-18 but the

AFAIK rt2860sta has never worked with hidden APs.

Bug#595600: Cannot install sympa: No Database Driver installed

2010-09-05 Thread Felix Koop

The sympa package must have a database installed and configured before it can
be used. This can be optionally handled with dbconfig-common.

If you are an advanced database administrator and know that you want to perform
this configuration manually, or if your database has already been installed
and configured, you should refuse this option. Details on what needs to be
done should most likely be provided in /usr/share/doc/sympa.

Otherwise, you should probably choose this option.

The sympa package can be configured to use one of several database types.
Below, you will be presented with the available choices.

  1. mysql 2. pgsql 3. sqlite3 4. sqlite

Please provide a password for sympa to register with the database server. If
left blank, a random password will be generated. . If you are using ident
based authentication, the supplied password will not be used and can be left
blank. Otherwise, PostgreSQL access may need to be reconfigured to allow
password-authenticated access.

  1. Apache 2 2. Other

If you don't want the webserver to be restarted, please make sure that wwsympa
and the Sympa SOAP server are not running or the database may contain
duplicates.

Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal

Please unblock package subdownloader. The current stable version
doesn't currently connect to API ( RC Bug ). This new 2.0.13 version
only has a new method of connecting to http with better performance
and locales updates.

Relevant changes in Changelog:

- Update translations from Launchpad.
- Added module to do Http Requests to Opensubtitles.org.
- Replaced the download api method for http request method to avoid
overload and relax the server.
- Disabled the Users online to save 1 API method.
- Patch from wwwnick (it added more raise checks for XML-RPC methods.
- Added more exceptions, thanks to wwwnick from Fedora community.
Increased timeout to 300s, now it can connect to the low API.

Please unblock package mailgraph

testing has 1.14-1. It should indeed have 1.14-2 as I, as sponsor, am
the one and only culprit for missing the freeze date. I built and
uploaded the package on request of its maintainer, but I did not check
that it properly reached the archive. Then I forgot about all this
until the maintainer pinged me again. I uploadedbut that was just
after the freeze.

1.14-2 was a huge packaging change and cleaning after Julien Valroff
took the package over. I reviewed most of the changes and found them
suitable for release (moreover, I always find that having packaging
that the new maintainer is comfortable with is much better for a
package).

So, though it may fail to the release criteria, particularly as they
ar enow, I'd suggest unblocking this package

1.14-3 just added a few translation updates to 1.14-2

Bug#595202: felix_1.0-1_amd64.changes REJECTED

2010-09-05 Thread Georges Khaznadar
Hello Torsten,

I would like to fix two issues before uploading felix (Latin-French
dictionary) again.

First, I suppose that somebody intended to package the Felix language
referred by http://sourceforge.net/projects/felix/, so a namespace
collision may occur. As Latin-French dictionaries may be less popular
than computer languages in Debian, I would suggest a name change for
Yves Ouvrard's package, for example renaming it felix-latin

Another issue was pointed by Fabian Greffrath. The package (to be
renamed felix-latin) contains a big part which is just a set of sacanned
pages. Is there already a policy about the size of allowable data like
images or architecture-independant texts in Debian repositories ?

A possibility to fix this second issue would be to make felix-latin
contain the program, and an installer for the data. So the data may be
stored elsewhere (possibly in wikisource and in the author's website as
a backup).

Thank you in advance for your suggestions about it.

Best regards, Georges.

That's not going to fix emboss. Are you going to fix that one, or
should it get removed as well?

I can prepare an update to add Breaks in emboss-lib, libajax6 and libnucleus6
in Squeeze, to open the way to a safe removal of the embassy pakcages. But
EMBOSS 6.1 is an obsolete upstream version. The package in Sid is by all means
superior, and does not need a Breaks declaration unless we would like to
 support
the use of a mixture of Lenny and Squeeze.

We do support partial upgrades. If a package combination is allowed by
their declared relationships, and doesn't work, that's a serious bug in
those packages. Now I don't know the details of emboss and empathy, so
I don't know what breaks when mixing lenny and squeeze, but hopefully
you do, so you can explain.

If you were thinking about other release-critical issues, please open a

I've opened one, but I'd still like answers to the questions I asked
in this thread.

Julien

Bug#595612: RM: ivtools -- RoQA; orphaned for eight years, low popcon, not in Lenny, outdated

2010-09-05 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Please remove ivtools. It's been orphaned since 2002, has minimal popcon, the
version in the archive is outdated and replacements exist.

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#595613: emboss-lib: improper shared library packaging

2010-09-05 Thread Julien Cristau
Package: emboss-lib
Version: 5.0.0-7
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 8.2

8.2. Shared library support files
-

If your package contains files whose names do not change with each
change in the library shared object version, you must not put them in
the shared library package. Otherwise, several versions of the shared
library cannot be installed at the same time without filename clashes,
making upgrades and transitions unnecessarily difficult.

$ dpkg -c
/srv/ftp-master.debian.org/ftp/pool/main/e/emboss/emboss-lib_5.0.0-7_amd64.deb
|grep libeplplot
-rw-r--r-- root/root582604 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.a
-rw-r--r-- root/root352320 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.so.3.2.7
-rw-r--r-- root/root 807 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.la
lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.so -
libeplplot.so.3.2.7
lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.so.3 -
libeplplot.so.3.2.7

That seems to be a violation of the above clause. The same applies to
the versions in testing and unstable.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#595202: felix_1.0-1_amd64.changes REJECTED

That sounds like a good idea.

Another issue was pointed by Fabian Greffrath. The package (to be
renamed felix-latin) contains a big part which is just a set of sacanned
pages. Is there already a policy about the size of allowable data like
images or architecture-independant texts in Debian repositories ?

How much data is that? Is the data essential for running the program
or are they some enhancements and the program is useful without the
data?

Cheers,
Torsten

is there any progress on this bug? BinNMUs for libjpeg now also fail because
of this.

Yes, there is progress. Or there was - I got distracted (again!) and
forgot about it since some weeks.

I'll have a go at it today. Thanks for poking me!
