Bug#594711: Same Problem Upgrading to Newest Package in Testing
On Sat, Sep 04, 2010 at 06:21:40PM -0700, Soren Stoutner wrote: I had to revert the system to a backup to restore email service. Even though I eventually got the package to install correctly (after manually upgrading the database files), I had problems converting from the slapd.conf file to the slapd.d config directory structure. For some reason it wouldn't transfer over the Kolab information correctly. However, I can run the upgrade again if you like and give you the output. Or is there a log on the system somewhere that would show the output you are looking for? Package: dovecot Version: 1:1.2.13-1 Severity: minor Tags: ipv6 The comment for the listen/ssl_listen statement is misleading: # IP or host address where to listen in for connections. It's not # currently possible to specify multiple addresses. * listens in # all IPv4 interfaces. [::] listens in all IPv6 interfaces, but # may also listen in all IPv4 interfaces depending on the # operating system. First of all, if I specify [::], then dovecot 1.2 will only listen on IPv6, not IPv4, independent of the net.ipv6.bindv6only setting. This is a change from 1.0, where [::] with net.ipv6.bindv6only==0 would also accept IPv4 connections. And second, the way to get IPv4+IPv6 both working is to specify *, [::] which is a bit in contrast to what the comment says about multiple addresses. Bug#595576: selinux-policy-default: Quietly prevents mdadm from writing to unconfined terminals
Package: selinux-policy-default Version: 2:0.0.20080702-6 Severity: normal Lenny's refpolicy seems to prevent mdadm from writing to an interactive (unconfined) tty, although I'm somewhat mystified as to the specific cause. mdadm has its own domain, defined by the raid refpolicy module; run as a monitoring daemon, as it often is, it lives in mdadm_t. Run from an unconfined_t shell, though, it's unable to write to stdout or stderr, despite that it does seem able to read the block devices and do its other work. Disabling enforcing mode restores its ability to write to the tty, as does piping stdout stderr through cat. Running mdadm under strace shows no -EPERM errors on the writes to fds 1 and 2 (and there are no kernel audit errors logged), although the output never reaches the terminal. Bug#595344: php-xml-serializer uses deprecated return value of new by reference
Hi Thomas, El 05/09/2010, a las 01:10, Thomas Goirand escribió: Hi, I don't agree. Some scripts (like mine) run with error_reporting(E_ALL); In my case, I run it from a cron job, and this would send me a mail every 10 minutes (because it outputs to the standard error). Did you try the test case that i attached on the previous message? With error_reporting(E_ALL) it serializes a xml document to a file and then reads and unserializes it back without noticing any error or warning interfering the overall operation. The problem may be related to your code. Anyway, it's silly to discuss the seriousness of the bug anyway, we just need to have it fixed for Squeeze. The fix is just remove 3 characters in the Unserialize.php, so it's trivial. If you don't have time to fix it, let me know, and I will NMU the fix. As i can't reproduce the bug i can't prepare a fix for it. Don't hesitate to make the NMU if you feel that it is needed and you are sure that it won't introduce any flaws. Bug#595446: ntop: GPL code links openssl without a license exception
Hi Luca On http://people.gnome.org/~markmc/openssl-and-the-gpl.html I found the following suggestion: In addition, as a special exception, the copyright holders give permission to link the code of portions of this program with the OpenSSL library under certain conditions as described in each individual source file, and distribute linked combinations including the two. You must obey the GNU General Public License in all respects for all of the code used other than OpenSSL. If you modify file(s) with this exception, you may extend this exception to your version of the file(s), but you are not obligated to do so. If you do not wish to do so, delete this exception statement from your version. If you delete this exception statement from all source files in the program, then also delete it here. And then modify each source file that make use of openssl. This is what wget use for example. On the openssl page http://www.openssl.org/support/faq.html#LEGAL2 I found the following suggestion, which sounds easier This program is released under the GPL with the additional exemption that compiling, linking, and/or using OpenSSL is allowed. However all this depends on that it is actually your code that you add this for. I do not know who developed the openssl part of the code. Hope this helps! Bug#595346: libnusoap-php uses deprecated return value of new by reference

Not in grep-aptavail, at least, I'm pretty sure. That error message comes from apt-cache dumpavail, which grep-aptavail calls. I'm reassigning this to apt-build, since it does ship a sources.list.d file which is named incorrectly. BTW, this seems to be the same issue as in the archived report #471668. Bug#577254: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#577254: [Pkg-fonts-bugs] Bug#577254: [doc] Bug#577254: ttf-arabeyes: Wrong width of diacritics in some fonts
Quoting Christian PERRIER (bubu...@debian.org): While using a Xft-enabled Emacs23, I noticed that some fonts included in this package have wide Arabic diacritics, almost taking up the whole line. I did some testing, and I think that this problem is caused by the large values of width of diacritics used in some of these fonts. Some of the diacritic glyphs in some fonts have negative width, and I think it is causing this weired behaviour in Emacs. I'm going to fix it, but I guess emacs should handle negative glyph widths in a better way. As I understand, that will mean a new upstream version release in Arabeyes.org. Am I right If that's correct, please keep us posted so that we can fix the font in Debian (and later on Ubuntu). Has there been any progress on this? signature.asc Description: Digital signature

The NMU upload happened just when the freeze was announced and the package got no bug reported since then. unblock openslp-dfsg/1.2.1-7.8 -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#595202: felix_1.0-1_amd64.changes REJECTED
Hello Torsten, I would like to fix two issues before uploading felix (Latin-French dictionary) again. First, I suppose that somebody intended to package the Felix language referred by http://sourceforge.net/projects/felix/, so a namespace collision may occur. As Latin-French dictionaries may be less popular than computer languages in Debian, I would suggest a name change for Yves Ouvrard's package, for example renaming it felix-latin Another issue was pointed by Fabian Greffrath. The package (to be renamed felix-latin) contains a big part which is just a set of sacanned pages. Is there already a policy about the size of allowable data like images or architecture-independant texts in Debian repositories ? A possibility to fix this second issue would be to make felix-latin contain the program, and an installer for the data. So the data may be stored elsewhere (possibly in wikisource and in the author's website as a backup). Thank you in advance for your suggestions about it. Best regards, Georges. Bug#592721: unblock: embassy-* and emboss.

This is a perfectly acceptable solution that I accepted in advance in the first email of this thread. That's not going to fix emboss. Are you going to fix that one, or should it get removed as well? I can prepare an update to add Breaks in emboss-lib, libajax6 and libnucleus6 in Squeeze, to open the way to a safe removal of the embassy pakcages. But EMBOSS 6.1 is an obsolete upstream version. The package in Sid is by all means superior, and does not need a Breaks declaration unless we would like to support the use of a mixture of Lenny and Squeeze. We do support partial upgrades. If a package combination is allowed by their declared relationships, and doesn't work, that's a serious bug in those packages. Now I don't know the details of emboss and empathy, so I don't know what breaks when mixing lenny and squeeze, but hopefully you do, so you can explain. [...] If you were thinking about other release-critical issues, please open a bug so that our discussion can be more concrete. I've opened one, but I'd still like answers to the questions I asked in this thread. Cheers, Julien signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#595613: emboss-lib: improper shared library packaging
Package: emboss-lib Version: 5.0.0-7 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 8.2 8.2. Shared library support files - If your package contains files whose names do not change with each change in the library shared object version, you must not put them in the shared library package. Otherwise, several versions of the shared library cannot be installed at the same time without filename clashes, making upgrades and transitions unnecessarily difficult. $ dpkg -c /srv/ftp-master.debian.org/ftp/pool/main/e/emboss/emboss-lib_5.0.0-7_amd64.deb |grep libeplplot -rw-r--r-- root/root582604 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.a -rw-r--r-- root/root352320 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.so.3.2.7 -rw-r--r-- root/root 807 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.la lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.so - libeplplot.so.3.2.7 lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2008-05-16 12:28 ./usr/lib/libeplplot.so.3 - libeplplot.so.3.2.7 That seems to be a violation of the above clause.
