Bug#599746: tcpxtract segfaults due to uninitialized variables
On Monday 11,October,2010 04:17 AM, Nico Golde wrote: Hi, * Chow Loong Jin hyper...@ubuntu.com [2010-10-10 21:33]: When operating on certain pcap files, tcpxtract segfaults after dumping out the first file. Running it through valgrind shows that there are some uninitialized values of a struct in add_session(), which the patch zeroes out, thereby fixing the segfaults. Thanks for the patch! I'm not sure if this program is developed upstream anymore and maybe it should get deleted from the archive. I'll look into it in the next days. That's a pity. Besides the code being in a horrible state, this seems to be the only program of its kind (combining foremost's functionality with pcap files). Either way, it's fine if it still works, is it not? I have another patch here that removes the multitude of sync() calls that drive btrfs up the wall and another one that changes the way tcpxtract handles its open files in order to avoid hitting the max number of open files, which I will tidy up and file if this package isn't getting removed. -- Kind regards, Chow Loong Jin signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Hi Julien, Julien Cristau wrote: did you manage to make any progress on this? I haven't received any response from upstream. After this problem raised a new version of doctrine came out, this time without the test suite. Since the cause of the FTBFS is a failing test (the package didn't build if any test didn't pass), i've packaged this new version and at first glance the bug would be solved (the package is uploaded to mentors [1]). This doesn't solve the root cause of the test failure, of course. [1] http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/doctrine/doctrine_1.2.3-1.dsc Although there is code in the source package that seems to be very 32-bit specific (for example the size of integer fields in the DBTable class), the documentation doesn't say that the package is arch-specific. Moreover, i have a doctrine instance working in a amd64 machine whitout any problem, and i haven't seen any bug report regarding arch issues, besides this FTBFS. So perhaps the problem was with the unit test itself, or with the features being tested. I'm not sure if it is a good idea to upload the new version with the fixed FTBFS or to prepare an architecture specific version, what do you think? Bug#599757: gnome-keyring: Fails to unlock the keyring in Lxde with GDM3
Le dimanche 10 octobre 2010 à 23:19 +0200, Domenico Cufalo a écrit : I use a system with Gnome, LXDE and Openbox, in my pc with Sid (32bit). Following the last update of gnome-keyring, after login with GDM3, when I launch for the first time programs such as mail-notification, empathy etc., the system asks me to unlock the keyring. This is boring and it is a regression compared to the previous situation. Interesting. The problem is that LXDE doesn’t launch gnome-keyring at the session startup; it is only launched for GNOME, to avoid being intrusive. However, the PAM module used by gdm3 will still launch it in the background with a minimal initialization. If you don’t use gnome-keyring, this is a waste of resources, so I changed it to disable itself after 10 seconds if it is not initialized properly in the meantime. The correct solution, if you want to use it, is to launch gnome-keyring in your LXDE session. You can do it by copying /usr/share/gnome/autostart/gnome-keyring-secrets.desktop to /etc/xdg/autostart. I'd tend to think that packages shouldn't use Recommends for something that only takes up a bit of space (and takes up proportionally far less than the package itself), as opposed to something that a user seriously might not want on their system for other reasons (like an extra running daemon). Recommends is not a decisison between space or not space. From the policy: Depends This declares an absolute dependency. Bug#599309: mutt: Reply-Postpone-Recall loses message associations

As long as we can assume that mutt is the only program working with postponed messages, and as long as mutt would keep track of where it stored which message (ie, Message-ID - mail location), this should be within reach - mutt needed to access the message being replied to and set the Replied flag. For remote storages (eg. IMAP), this could require maintaining a transaction log, but I don't see a principal problem doing this, only (likely) quite a bit of work. Bug#516264: wget handler missing from Debian package
Hi, rhatto wrote (13 Jan 2010 19:29:44 GMT) : The current version in my branch has all features I can imagine for it, except if someone needs some special option set. As a backupninja maintainer, my main problem with your wget branch is that it has far too much code duplication with the rsync handler. This should be abstracted out to e.g. lib/lock.in, lib/mount.in, etc. As a useful proof of code duplication inefficiency, the wget handler does not benefit from the recent improvements and bugfixes to lock files handling in the rsync handler. Rhatto: please keep on with the great work and tell us when this is sorted out so that we can merge it in. (Well, this discussion is starting to be rather a upstream one rather than purely Debian-related, but we are discussing pre-requisites for the wget handler to be included in the Debian package, so I guess it nevertheless fits here.) Bug#599769: xorg: the xorg server consumes ram without freeing it whilst using a 3d application
tags 599769 + moreinfo upstream thanks On Monday, 11. October 2010 02:09:25 macarthur wrote: Xorg continually uses ram after a 3d application it raises consistently whilst using itself. It starts at 20MB and then as it continually is used. It keeps going up until the application is closed. Then it stays there until another 3d application is ran and it goes up once more. The ram is never released whilst the system is on. This bug came about two maybe three days ago i believe when there was a few hundred MBs of patches that came down. It never releases said memory no matter how long it's been on after the item came about. This is probably a problem in the non-free binary drivers from NVIDIA. Or can you reproduce the problem with a different Xorg driver, too? You may want to report this problem directly to NVIDIA, following these instructions: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 which includes running the nvidia-bug-report.sh script (which is shipped in the Debian package nvidia-glx) on your machine. If you do so, please leave a note and URL in this report so that we know where additional discussion regarding to this problem can be found. Bug#516264: wget handler missing from Debian package
As a backupninja maintainer, my main problem with your wget branch is that it has far too much code duplication with the rsync handler. This should be abstracted out to e.g. lib/lock.in, lib/mount.in, etc. Please see the upstream feature request about a fsck handler. I think the fsck feature should be abstracted out and moved to a dedicated handler, rather than supported by specific handlers such as (currently) rsync or wget. Bug#567770: e16 RC bugs
Hi Tim! * Tim Retout dioc...@debian.org [101009 15:22]: Normally I would not ask in advance like this, but I notice that #567770 was actually caused by the NMU upload for #552046, so I recognise this could get pretty inflammatory if I were to cause more problems. Yes, I'm really sorry for causing that mess :( I didn't fixed that, because someone (Laurence?) asked to let him handle that. I'm still going to prepare a fix. If I don't do it, someone else certainly will. Please let me know if you plan to make a maintainer upload in the next week, or have any further advice on the best way to resolve the problem. Upon request of release manager Luk I started to prepare a fix, though. I haven't upload it yet, as I haven't finished testing it completly, yet. My work so far is attached; I so far verified that it upgrades / removes / purges cleanly from 1.0.0-3.1 as well as 1.0.0-3. I haven't tested upgrades from 0.16.8.13-4 to 1.0.0-3.2. Upon request of release manager Luk Claes I was about to fix this ASAP, so Laurence, please say if I shouldn't continue. Dear release managers, my fix so far introduced a Pre-Depends on dpkg (= 1.15.7.2) (to use dpkg-maintscript-helper in preinst script). Would such a solution be accaptable, or should that be avoided and done by hand? (Well, by copy pasting the wiki pages...) Best Regards, Alexander PS: My understanding was, that you would prefer to add /etc/e16 to the searchpath for config files of e16 itself; as you can see I haven't implemented that, but tried to fix my symlinks. I thought that would be the prefered way to do that, as a) it is less intrusive than changing upstream stuff and b) you can always add the searchpath thing yourself; (re)moving the configfiles from /etc/e16 will in that case just lead to modified files being left there. diff -u e16-1.0.0/debian/control e16-1.0.0/debian/control --- e16-1.0.0/debian/control +++ e16-1.0.0/debian/control @@ -2,7 +2,7 @@ Section: x11 Priority: optional Maintainer: Laurence J. I'm not familiar with cifs, can you chown other files on the remote drive? No, I can't chown anything on the drive. I don't really know why that is. The underlying filesystem (it's on a D-Link DNS-323, a small linux appliance) is ext3, so it supports uids/gids. Albeit the SMB user isn't administrator on the machine, so I guess that's why it can't chown. That sounds plausible. I changed the BM_REPOSITORY_SECURE option to false to avoid BM doing the chown, and now it should work. I'll wait for the crontab to fire tonight, and for the backup to complete (24h) to check. Setting BM_REPOSITORY_SECURE to false should do the trick, please report back whether the backup succeeds. Worked nice, thanks. Although the tarring itself spent 26 hrs, then another 10 hrs for the md5sums. What's annoy me a bit is that the master tarball is nearly 500G, and the incremental one, with only very few changes (a few megabytes) weights 100G ! Apparently it's full of empty directories which take up space for nothing. Thanks, Xav -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Default apt-listchanges configuration sends mails, and I'm unsure this should change. What if the default apt-listchanges configuration sent mails iff you have an MTA installed, and silently ignored a missing MTA (since the user evidently doesn't want local mail in that case)? Then I wouldn't even need to change the apt-listchanges default configuration for where to send mail to not send it anywhere. Under those circumstances, Suggests seems appropriate. Bug#558393: Please liberate the unstable dependencies to make the packacke installable on stable
On Wednesday, 7. April 2010 09:22:50 Russ Allbery wrote: Joachim Zobel jzo...@heute-morgen.de writes: This would be consistent with nvidia-glx. It would be helpful for people who need to install nvidia-glx from sid to use never nvidia cards for gaming with wine. It should also be possible without problems. The dependency is due to the transition from /emul/ia32-linux to /lib32 that happened during the squeeze development cycle. This was something of a mess and tends to be fragile, and I don't think it's a good idea to override the shlibs file of ia32-libs to allow for an earlier dependency. I suspect that could break in all sorts of interesting ways, and given the number of other issues with the package that need to be sorted out, I don't think this is some place where we have resources to work through the implications. The packaging of the nvidia packages has been greatly improved and simplified over the last months. Installing/backporting 195.36.31-5 (or a -legacy version) to lenny shouldn't be too difficult now. The following restrictions apply: * The *-ia32 packages won't be installable due to the ia32-libs transition. This is not going to be changed, cleaning up after the ia32-libs transition is a mess big enough. But these packages are usually not needed on amd64 anyway. * dkms is recommended for building the module. dkms is available in lenny-backports. * dpkg 1.15 is required by the maintainer scripts. This is not going to change. That version simplifies the work a lot. Unfortunately there is currently no backport of dpkg available for lenny. But the version from testing can be installed without having to many requirements. * The Xserver dependencies have been relaxed to be satisfied in lenny, too. * The kernel module has been compiled successfully with the kernel headers from lenny's kernel. But nobody has actually tested the module so far. For squeeze the Debian NVIDIA Maintainers Team considers providing backports of new upstream releases that are available in unstable/testing for squeeze-backports, too. Bug#599796: fai-client: Please add support for different base tarballs
Package: fai-client Version: 4.0~beta2+experimental26 Hi, currently FAI uses a fixed/hard-coded location for the base tarball. This is unfortunate in multi-distribution or multi-arch setups for example. Currently such setups involve duplication of the fai configuration directory and the nfsroot, which shouldn't be neccessary (at least not in all cases). So I suggest to add support for new variable FAI_BASEFILE: This should be as simple as changing task_extrbase in /usr/lib/fai/subroutines. Instead of using a hard-coded local basefile and extracting it, if it exists, and using debootstrap otherwise do something like this: - Check if FAI_BASEFILE is defined. In this case check weither it exists and if yes, use it as basefile. If it is defined but the tarball does not exist print a warning to STDERR. - If basefile exists extract it to /target - If basefile does not exist call debootstrap Regards, Patrick -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#551861: Fwd: Re: RFP: eclim -- Integration between the eclipse IDE and the VIM text editor
@eclim: see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=551861 Hi Niels, The license of eclipse (EPL) and eclim (GPLv3) are not compatible so if eclim links against eclipse, then there is an issue. I have not checked whether this is this case with eclim, but it is likely. This incompatibility is acknowledged both by GNU and eclipse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eclipse_Public_License http://www.eclipse.org/legal/eplfaq.php#GPLCOMPATIBLE http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLIncompatibleLicenses thank you for pointing this out. I'm not sure whether this incompatibility is an issue here. AFAIK Eclim delivers a bunch of eclipse plugins, some VIM plugins and relies on nailgun[1] for the communication between VIM and Eclipse. Is it possible to package Eclipse plugins that are licensed under the GPL3? If not, we should ask the Eclim project if it could add an additional license. Should it be the Eclipse license then or would a BSD license do? Bug#488270: create /root/Changelog at postinst time when Single changelog file is selected
Hi, Dennis Hoppe wrote (23 Jun 2010 15:10:33 GMT) : after a default installation of Debian 5.0.x the debconf priority is set to high. But metche will only ask these questions with an debconf prirority of medium. So the most users will never see these questions and metche defines CHANGELOG_FILE as default, which is missing after the installation. Ok. I think you should set the default to No changelog monitoring at the debian/templates. I would find it sad to disable half of metche's functionality by default. I guess we'll nevertheless resort to doing this unless a better solution can be found to fix this bug. Otherwise the package should create the file, but not underneath /root. Maybe /etc/metche/changelog or /etc/metche/history is more usefull. I agree postinst must not create a file in /root, but /etc is no better IMHO; according to the FHS 2.3: The /etc hierarchy contains configuration files. A configuration file is a local file used to control the operation of a program It does not seem to me a hand-maintained system Changelog falls in this category. Another candidate would be /var/log/metche/Changelog (this is a changeLOG, after all) but I think we must dismiss it as the Debian Policy requires all log files to be rotated, which we don't want for this one. After reading the FHS, it seems to me the only proper place would be /var/lib/metche/Changelog. Dennis, Lunar, any better idea? tags 538408 + wontfix thanks Hi, Ian Beckwith wrote (25 Jul 2009 16:13:52 GMT) : So although no non-excluded files in /etc/ have changed, /etc itself has changed (presumably directory entries have changed, i suspect denyhosts is the culprit), and this is enough to stop it saving a testing state. Sadly, metche has a hard time to deal with non-FHS-compliant software that shamelessly uses /etc as if it were /var; this is a bug in denyhost or whatever the bad one is, and should be fixed there. Assuming I'm right, using find -mindepth 1 might be the answer, but you would need to handle directories and Changelog files separately. Sadly, adding --mindepth 1 would prevent find from detecting deleted files in the watched directory so I don't think we can use this :/ Bye, -- intrigeri intrig...@boum.org | GnuPG key @ https://gaffer.ptitcanardnoir.org/intrigeri/intrigeri.asc | OTR fingerprint @ https://gaffer.ptitcanardnoir.org/intrigeri/otr-fingerprint.asc | Then we'll come from the shadows. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#599704: unblock: gnat-4.4/4.4.5-1
Dear release managers, Because gcc-4.4 (=4.4.5) is now in Squeeze, gnat-4.4 (=4.4.4-5) no longer builds from source. An updated gnat-4.4 package (merging all the packaging changes from gcc-4.4) is available in unstable. Please unblock it so it migrates to testing after its normal 10-day period in unstable. The changes between 4.4.4-5 and 4.4.5-1 are a bit too large for my taste (upstream version change + packaging changes) but all of these changes have been tested and approved as part of gcc-4.4 already. I have also personally verified that the Ada Library Information files are unchanged, thus preserving compatibility with all the existing -dev packages that depend on gnat-4.4. PS. Thanks to Matthias Klose for building on armel and s390, these two buildd failed for reasons external to the package. -- Ludovic Brenta. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Changing /usr/src/modules/dahdi/drivers/dahdi/Kbuild From DAHDI_MMX_AUTO=yes To DAHDI_MMX_AUTO= And recompiling with module-assistant --not-unpack build dahdi And re-installing the .deb has meant both systems have run fine for a week, handling 100s of calls. Bug#598350: Announce of an upcoming upload for the tripwire package
Dear maintainer of tripwire and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the tripwire Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. The package maintainer and I agreed for a translation update round. At the end of this period, I will send him|her a full patch so that an l10n upload can happen. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv Among these, the following translations are incomplete: es eu fi gl nl pt_BR If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the tripwire package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, October 15, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. Schedule: Saturday, October 09, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Monday, October 11, 2010 : send this notice Friday, October 15, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Saturday, October 16, 2010 : Send a summary to the maintainer. Bug#599762: RM: sawfish [ia64 kfreebsd-i386 m68k] -- ROM; Old binaries is blocking upload to t-p-u
Hi! * Luis Rodrigo Gallardo Cruz rodr...@debian.org [101010 23:50]: Sawfish (1:1.3.5.2-1) in testing is affected by FTBFS #595880. A fix via unstable is not possible because version 1:1.5.3-2 is already present there, but a recent upload to t-p-u of a fix was rejected because ia64 kfreebsd-i386 and m68k have never been able to build any 1.5 release and thus still have 1.3.5. I'm slightly confused. m68k? That arch has been removed quite some time ago, and I therefore could only remove ia64 and kfreebsd-i386 packages.
