Bug#599650: impressive: Please change recommends on ghostscript-x and pdftk to suggests

Would you consider elaborating on how it significantly enhances the functionality in the package description? (I assume impressive only uses pdftk when using the scripting features?) Bug#600706: gdm3: I can not get into my account if already open (steps to reproduce)
Le lundi 01 novembre 2010 à 13:29 +1100, Thomas R. a écrit : User switching using gdm3 in Squeeze is essentially broken. It's impossible to return to the first user's logged in session after switching to another user in the normal way. Known issue, it should be fixed soon. This suggests the problem is due to erroneously switching virtual terminals after returning to a login session. No, actually this is caused by a variable not being reinitialized. The display you just used for login believes it should respawn while it should not. Cheers, -- .''`. Bug#601982: pO4a: Should add support for translating the same string in two different ways
Quoting David Prévot (da...@tilapin.org): I have two ideas of quirty fix for this one: either translate “None.” to “Sans.” in French, or add in the source file some invisible (non-break) space at the end of the one that doesn't have the same gender (at least in French). Actually, in apt, the problem has been solved at the source by dropping the two offendign sections, which are not very relevant anyway.:-) I already noticed a similar problem (in the maint-guide) I had to solve the second way, but wonder if it could be possible to force po4a to propose a different translation for the same string, using for example a tag (something similar to the “.if !'po4a'hide'” trick in roff). When I mentioned this problem during his po4a talk at Paris miniDebConf, Denis suggested that somethign similar to what is possible with po-debconf could be done (bracketed comments in the original string). signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#602060: jpilot: DatebookWeek: 'Repeat on Days SMTWTFS' allows the user to select no days.
Package: jpilot Version: 1.8.0.2-1 Severity: normal When updating 'jpilot' after renewing library books, I sometimes see this error: You cannot have a weekly repeating appointment that doesn't repeat on any day of the week. There isn't enough information in the bug report to allow me to fix the issue. What I'd really like is to get a file from you, along with instructions about how to make the program crash, and get MP3 Diags to crash on my computer. Then I should be able to fix it pretty soon. Hi, Using current tp-smapi through dkms results in: # modprobe tp-smapi FATAL: Error inserting tp_smapi (/lib/modules/2.6.35-trunk-amd64/updates/dkms/tp_smapi.ko): Invalid module format Even after clean successful rebuild the error remains dpkg-reconfigure tp-smapi-dkms # uname -a Linux z 2.6.35-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Tue Aug 3 21:31:37 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Actually the problem is a bit dkms related. ;) [thus adding pkg-dkms-maint to CC] I am running linux-image-2.6.35-trunk-amd64 2.6.35-1~experimental.3 and tp-smapi works fine, but I had exactly your problem before. At some point, the kernel changed ABI, without bumping the package-name (that does happen with the experimental kernels). Thus the modules built for the older version of the ABI are not loadable any more, despite being marked as built for the correct kernel. What happens on dpkg-reconfigure tp-smapi-dkms? dkms is called to uninstall tp-smapi, then again to build and install. For some reason it did not for you. Could you please share /var/lib/dkms/tp-smapi/0.40/2.6.35-trunk-amd64/x86_64/log/make.log Also the output of dkms status -m tp-smapi please. Now to pkg-dkms, is my usage of version here maybe wrong? should I use 0.40-8 (thus incl the debian revision). Please read the bug report for information, it's presented there far better than I could formulate it. Background information: The preferred way to build binary 'extensions' or 'plugins' for Octave is using the mkoctfile shell script. I'm not aware of any software in Debian that does not use mkoctfile for building such extension. Now, I could fix the above bug by hacking mkoctfile, but somehow this looks like the wrong solution to me. If I include hdf.h, do I really have to care about mpi which may or may not be used? So, are there better solutions than adding /usr/include/mpi/ to mkoctfile's include flags? I see no reasons why mpi.h has to be included but for the case you are using one of the -mpi flavors. In that case you should depend on libhdf5-mpi-dev. I don't undestand why you are trying to use both -serial and -parallel flavors. -- Francesco P. I think this is the problem and shortcoming. If I generate a *_source.changes file for a -2 package, the orig tarball will not be included, nor will the .dsc file reference it — *because* it is assumed to be publicly available. sbuild can install build-dependencies, so it already interacts with an APT mirror. Bug#589902: grub-efi-ia32: please support filesystems other than FAT
severity 589902 wishlist thanks HFS(+) way is Apple-specific, distinct from standard way and is poorly documented. Moreover Apple systems are bootable the standard EFI way and by default it has EFI system partition which would otherwise be unused. So advantages of using HFS(+) are purely theoretical. This works fine, and I can read and write the partition in Linux and OS X. The EFI spec states that the boot partition should be FAT. However, upstream told me that the EFI support in grub-install is mainly targets Mac support, and Macs can also boot from HFS(+) partitions. It would be nice to have support for this in grub-install. Bug#602070: audacity hangs while recording with no apparent reason
Package: audacity Version: 1.3.12-6 Severity: important lately i've started transferring my old audio-cassette to my pc with the aim of making cd's. i'd utilized audacity some years ago for a similar task so i've decided to use it in this case too. the problem is that it allows me to record a whole audio-cassette, then (maybe not in the same session) i start recording another cassette but audacity hangs randomly (i.e. maybe once after ten minutes, and when i try again it hangs after seven minutes) anyway i cannot go on up to the end of the cassette. it hangs but the cpu usage continues to be very high, it lowers only if i press the virtual stop button. i do not use jack with audacity. i've tried a dpkg-reconfigure with no avail, then i've decided to perform an install --reinstall, this procedure allows me to record another whole cassette, maybe even two, but afterwards the problem shows up again. though my main distro is debian (testing) i've ubuntu maverick on another partition and (maybe) obviously i have the same problem. This is the reason why i've started thinking that it could be an hardware problem. So i've installed both gramofile and ardour (the former doesn't use jack while the latter does) and both record flawlessly, therefore i do not think anymore that it is an hardware problem. i find interesting similarities with 520395 bug but i could not try the proposed workaround since i do not have a .asoundrc file and i don't know if it is still used by the system. i enclose two strace files (strace-audacity.txt refers to the use of audacity while gdm was running, in fact via htop i'd noticed a high cpu usage by xorg, strace2-audacity.txt refers to a second attempt after having launched xorg via startx, cpu usage by xorg was still high anyway) (well, i do not see a way to send the two attachment therefore i put them on filebin.ca: http://filebin.ca/agqjc/strace-audacity.txt http://filebin.ca/oqhupx/strace2-audacity.txt -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing-proposed-updates') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=it_IT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages audacity depends on: ii audacity-data 1.3.12-6 A fast, cross-platform audio edito ii libasound2 1.0.23-2 shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libc6 2.11.2-6+squeeze1 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libexpat1 2.0.1-7 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libflac++6 1.2.1-2+b1Free Lossless Audio Codec - C++ ru ii libflac8 1.2.1-2+b1Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libgcc11:4.4.5-4 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-0 2.24.2-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-02.20.1-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libid3tag0 0.15.1b-10ID3 tag reading library from the M ii libjack-jackd2-0 [libj 1.9.5~dfsg-19 JACK Audio Connection Kit (librari ii libmad00.15.1b-5 MPEG audio decoder library ii libogg01.2.0~dfsg-1 Ogg bitstream library ii libsamplerate0 0.1.7-3 Audio sample rate conversion libra ii libsndfile11.0.21-3 Library for reading/writing audio ii libsoundtouch1c2 1.3.1-2 sound stretching library ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-4 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtwolame00.3.12-1 MPEG Audio Layer 2 encoding librar ii libvamp-hostsdk3 2.1-1 helper library for Vamp hosts writ ii libvorbis0a1.3.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisenc2 1.3.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisfile3 1.3.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libwxbase2.8-0 2.8.10.1-3+b1 wxBase library (runtime) - non-GUI ii libwxgtk2.8-0 2.8.10.1-3+b1 wxWidgets Cross-platform C++ GUI t Versions of packages audacity recommends: ii libavcodec52 5:0.6~svn20100726-0.1 library to encode decode multimedi ii libavformat52 5:0.6~svn20100726-0.1 ffmpeg file format library Versions of packages audacity suggests: ii amb-plugins [ladspa-plug 0.6.1-2 ambisonics LADPSA plugins ii blepvco [ladspa-plugin] 0.1.0-2 LADSPA, minBLEP-based, hard-sync-c ii blop [ladspa-plugin] 0.2.8-5 Bandlimited wavetable-based oscill ii caps [ladspa-plugin] 0.4.2-1 C* Audio Plugin Suite ii cmt [ladspa-plugin] 1.16-1 a collection of LADSPA plugins ii csladspa [ladspa-plugin] 1:5.12.1~dfsg-5 LADSPA plugin for Csound ii invada-studio-plugins-la 0.3.1-1 Invada Studio Plugins - a set of L ii

Then, we won't be able to accept it in Squeeze I'm afraid. Right, that's totally understandable. I guess this is one of the cornercases where we have to sacrifice an improvement in a small corner in order to improve the larger good (i.e. get out the release without unnecessary delays and risk for the quality). What are the other clients that may use liboauth? Is bti the only one? Liboauth was just released… how much testing did it get? Bug#602076: python-speechd: speechd_config module runs code on import which breaks pydoc
Package: python-speechd Version: 0.7-5.1 Severity: normal At the end of /usr/share/pyshared/speechd_config/config.py the snippet if __name__ == __main__: sys.exit(main()) else: main() causes the main function to be run e.g. when pydoc is used on the module. Either when running pydoc directly: zbys...@muja ~$ pydoc speechd_config Speech Dispatcher configuration tool Do you want to setup a completely new configuration? I'm reporting this as a bug in speechd not pydoc because while pydoc could degrade more gracefuly, it must import the module to look at it, and there isn't any sensible way for pydoc to prevent the module from executing arbitrary code if the module wants to. Bug#528914: Squeeze can't fit on 512MiB
severity 528914 serious thanks Quoting Samuel Thibault (sthiba...@debian.org): Hello, Actually, partman will even just refuse to setup partitions. Additionnall, a test today with beta1, on a 1GiB disk (virtual machine) and the separate home partman-auto recipe lead to failure because of disk full The minimum size for / needs to be increased (it is currently 500MiB and is not enough). This is roughly what #528914 says (though it really says that the minimum for / should allow two kernel flavours to be installedwhich I kinda agree upon as there are chances that, during tha machine's life, this will happen). Bug#600802: Still unresolved
This bug has come up on two different netbooks. The options in the kernel configurations: CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_ROTATION=y are set. The kernels are the latest 2.6.32 from Debian. Julien wrote: That sounds like an issue with your kernel. If you have trouble with debian's latest kernel then please file a bug there. Which latest kernel is that? This package needs to work with the 2.6.32 kernel in Squeeze. What has changed in this package than needs something in the kernel to be different? What is that difference? The previous version of the package worked with the current kernel. Or is there some other configuration than needs changing? Or is there a bug in this package. This is confusing since there is also an official Npgsql 2.0-series, now at 2.0.10, that is an entirely different version than the one provided by Mono. Debian also lacks this much improved version. (One problem that can occur is thinking that you don't need to set ENCODING in your connection string, since real Npgsql 2.0 handles this properly anyway, but then having weird problems, because Npgsql 1.0 was flawed in this regard.) Please package Npgsql 2.0.10 for Debian. Perhaps Debian should also stop providing the Mono-provided version entirely? Npgsql web site: http://npgsql.projects.postgresql.org/ I have also suggested this to be removed from Mono upstream - not sure what will come of that: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=650180 Regards Oskar -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#602060: jpilot: DatebookWeek: 'Repeat on Days SMTWTFS' allows the user to select no days.
Le 01/11/10 08:59, A. Costa a écrit : Package: jpilot Version: 1.8.0.2-1 Severity: normal When updating 'jpilot' after renewing library books, I sometimes see this error: You cannot have a weekly repeating appointment that doesn't repeat on any day of the week. In the 'Week' tab, there is a 'Repeat on Days' field, followed by 7 toggle buttons 'SMTWTFS'. These 7 toggle buttons collectively have 7 bits of states, making 2^7=128 states. One can select all of 'em, some, or none. Allowing none to be selected seems like a bug, since how can a weekly appointment occur on no day? It might be better if it were impossible to select no buttons. The above error message would then be unnecessary. You can't validate a repeating event with no day selected. Is that what you are talking about? If it is not what you are talking about, I think you entered a wrong event before the check was in place in jpilot. Hi, Specifically, it includes .swf files in: - contrib2/plugin/tdiarygraph/ - contrib2/plugin/tdiarytimes/ They're shipped in tdiary-contrib. Removing that plugin would require a sourceful upload, but tdiary-contrib would still presumably be useful for other plugins. I agree upstream. There might possibly be source code in the new upstream version 3.0.1; on the other hand, contrib appears to have been split out completely in that version (I think - I can't read Japanese). contrib source is splitted out originally, if I remember rightly. -- Regards, dai GPG Fingerprint = 0B29 D88E 42E6 B765 B8D8 EA50 7839 619D D439 668E signature.asc Description: Digital signature

The problem reported there is also seeming to affect Debian Squeeze. The upgrade to Ubuntu Maverick has caused the problem to go away when using that OS. Sadly though the problem still afflicts Debian Squeeze. Is there any way the information from the Ubuntu-oriented investigation can be applied to Debian Squeeze? The ubuntu bug doesn't seem to point to a fix (or it's to much of a mess for me to find it). Somebody would have to bisect between 2.6.33 and a fixed kernel to find out what fixed this, I guess. I have posted a comment asking someone to summarize the real fix to the bug report in Debian BTS. Let us hope it is answered quickly. I had (naïvely) assumed that bugs such as this which clearly affect both Debian and Ubuntu would have knowledge exchange from which group found the fix to the other. Bug#602079: Replace Mono-provided Npgsql with official Npgsql
On Mon, 2010-11-01 at 12:18 +0100, Oskar Berggren wrote: Please package Npgsql 2.0.10 for Debian. We try to avoid packaging libraries for the sake of it, as they rarely get the care and attention they need when not actively in use by anyone or anything. Is there anything using Npgsql which would necessitate this standalone version? Perhaps Debian should also stop providing the Mono-provided version entirely? If the API/ABI is compatible, we're not averse to doing things like this - we use our own NUnit rather than Mono's bundled one, for example. But if it's not API/ABI compatible, we can't remove the Mono bundled version - and would need multiple versions together. I have also suggested this to be removed from Mono upstream - not sure what will come of that: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=650180 That's likely the best solution. Regardless, this isn't something which will get any attention for Squeeze. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Hi Renat, nice observation... but fix I think is not ideal since it changes semantics of __checkBan (would return True even for already banned)... may be better solution would be to check either any other new ticket is available within the jail and then not sleep at all (and thus sleep only if queue is empty)... not sure though if it would not have some unpleasant side-effects as well also sleeptime seems to be not interfaced within client/configuration at all-- should be made configurable, so you could tune it up to your liking (patch is welcome ;)). Good to know. Simple question: Is this fixed in 1.4.15? (which I have just realized that it exist). No, but it IS fixed in m4.git branch-1.4, and I hope to release 1.4.16 this week. Bug#601906: gimp: FTBFS on GNU/Hurd

PATH_MAX is optional in POSIX and undefined on GNU/Hurd, as there is no global limit to path sizes. Here is a very simple patch to fix the problem. A better solution would be to use dynamic allocation instead of fixed-size buffers, but that would require a much larger patch. diff -Nurp gimp-2.6.11.orig/plug-ins/common/qbist.c gimp-2.6.11/plug-ins/common/qbist.c --- gimp-2.6.11.orig/plug-ins/common/qbist.c 2010-07-03 00:51:56.0 +0200 +++ gimp-2.6.11/plug-ins/common/qbist.c 2010-10-31 01:08:03.764667339 +0200 @@ -41,8 +41,14 @@ #include libgimp/stdplugins-intl.h -#if ! defined PATH_MAX defined _MAX_PATH -# define PATH_MAX _MAX_PATH +#if ! defined PATH_MAX +# if defined _MAX_PATH +#define PATH_MAX _MAX_PATH +# elif defined MAXPATHLEN +#define MAXPATHLEN +# else +#define PATH_MAX 1024 +# endif #endif /** qbist renderer ***/ Thanks! -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: hurd-i386 (i686-AT386) Kernel: GNU-Mach 1.3.99/Hurd-0.3 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#602003: installation-reports: partition created hangs on boot
The hang on boot is not due to the installer but due to 2.6.32-5-686 and the nouveau driver: I have 2 Nvidia graphics cards: Model: nVidia GeForce 6200 (0x0221) Vendor: pci 0x10de nVidia Corporation Device: pci 0x0221 GeForce 6200 (0x0221) When I boot with 'nouveau.modeset=0' the hang goes away. Nouveau is nice, avoid it like the plague. Hugo Vanwoerkom
Bug#589763: related ?
Hi Sylvestre, Sorry, didn't see this note until now. You're probably right, that should be the cause. This confirms that a binNMU of scalapack should fix this bug (should have subscribed to it). The maintainer hasn't replied, so can the release team take care of this before squeeze? It's causing FTBFS of other packages, like Elmer and PETSc. -Adam -- GPG fingerprint: D54D 1AEE B11C CE9B A02B C5DD 526F 01E8 564E E4B6 Engineering consulting with open source tools http://www.opennovation.com/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Agreed, but the rebase happened a lot earlier in our git repo. Sure, one could have created a new branch for just the new freeze-exception package, but given that there is only a single code change (r4044), it'd be too confusing to have a branched history afterwards: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/jackd2.git;a=shortlog All changes since 1.9.5dfsg-19 are worth to be included, and almost nothing (except r4044) has been changed upstream. Bug#602088: konqueror: kfmclient debug messages cause havoc in 3rd party calls
Package: konqueror Version: 4:4.4.5-1 Severity: important SUMMARY Linux is known of programs working in standard manner: - Normal message to stdoout - Error messages to stdout The debug messages are not displayed, unless specifically enabled via: - Command line options (-d, --debug or similar) - Environment variables (PROGRAM_DEBUG=1, or similar) - UI (Menu - Debug, or similar) By always sending output to the screen causes multiple problems: - Programm differes from the rest of the 99.99% utilities in Linux. - It gaves wrong impression: does this program have problems? - It's makes it harder to tell good messages from bad - It causes havoc on 3rd party programs (see below) - It requires doing extra hoops * In scripts * In command line Please suppress debug messages by default, enable only when requested. DESCRIPTION For some reason kfmclient sends debug messages in normal use. An example konqueror kfmclient newTab /usr/local kfmclient(17331) ClientApp::doIt: Creating ClientApp Qt: Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported kfmclient(17331) ClientApp::createNewWindow: KUrl(file:///usr/local) mimetype= This may not look a problem, but it causes wrecking the UI in 3rd party applications. Am example: 1. Configure Emacs, Gnus and connect to group gmane.linux.debian.devel.* 2. Configure Emacs to browse URLs in konqueror 3. In Gnus news reader interface reading artile, click on URL at *Article* buffer = The article content (or any buffer in that matter) is wrecked by inserting the response from the kfmclient This is how the output was inserted into an artile. See lined marked with * to the left. The problem is even worse in *Summary* buffer where the whole threading of messages goes beserk due to these messages. - From: Pietro Battiston m...@pietrobattiston.it Subject: Re: Uploading during freeze time Newsgroups: gmane.linux.debian.devel.mentors To: Jordi Gutiérrez Hermoso jord...@gmail.com Cc: debian-ment...@lists.debian.org Date: 2 weeks, 5 days, 21 hours -- 2010-10-12 19:15 EEST Message-ID: 1286900149.14125.1178.ca...@voubian.casa References: aanlktimbzn8d2mekpxx6q1sa0hong21two0rhfkop...@mail.gmail.com 201010111211.16187@iguanasuicide.net aanlktikwokffmtyfhi-yy7j=_fx8_44wbcbu3vcc6...@mail.gmail.com 87wrpovcb9@windlord.stanford.edu aanlktim2zczty0q1xuc+aocrl0lfyz4q6j1ieqf9w...@mail.gmail.com 87r5fws57m@windlord.stanford.edu aanlkti=b2g8e8vg5h87buppwc-4-oh0zcqzujswcn...@mail.gmail.com 877hhos2fs@windlord.stanford.edu aanlktimhgbzqoaxhq3oqq3ulmxrqb=j_pbclssou9...@mail.gmail.com X-Trace: dough.gmane.org 1286900577 8789 80.91.229.12 (12 Oct 2010 16:22:57 GMT) X-Mailer: Evolution 2.30.2 Archived-At: http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.mentors/45296 Il giorno mar, 12/10/2010 alle 08.55 -0500, Jordi Gutiérrez Hermoso ha scritto: [+] On 11 October 2010 19:02, Russ Allbery r...@debian.org wrote: Jordi Gutiérrez Hermoso jord...@gmail.com writes: The *real* problem is that labelling Firefox 3.6 as experimental is downright silly. Should you prefer not to grant libclamunrar a freeze exception, we would need to remove the current binary packages from squeeze as these are seriously outdated. autom4te.cache should not be in the source package... Also I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. The code changes between 0.95.3 and 0.96.4 seem to be minor, what exactly makes the old version unsuitable for release? And what makes 0.96.4 incompatible with an older clamav? Cheers, Julien signature.asc Description: Digital signature
