Bug#598925: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the strongswan package

2010-11-12 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of strongswan and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the strongswan Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU, so I will proceed with it.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es eu fi fr gl ja nb nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: eu fi gl nb nl pt_BR

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the strongswan package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, November
16, 2010. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Thursday, November 11, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Friday, November 12, 2010 : send this notice
Tuesday, November 16, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Wednesday, November 17, 2010 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Friday, November 19, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Previous versions of the strongSwan package gave a choice between three
different Start/Stop-Levels. Due to changes in the standard system startup

levels will now be set. If you are upgrading from a previous version and
changed your strongSwan startup parameters, then please take a look at NEWS.

Restarting strongSwan is recommended, since if there is a security fix, it
will not be applied until the daemon restarts. Most people expect the daemon
to restart, so this is generally a good idea. However, this might take down
existing connections and then bring them back up, so if you are using such a

Bug#603161: faulty window clipping in nedit - other programs affected as well

2010-11-12 Thread Markus Porto
Also gimp (2.6.10-1, as it comes with squeeze) shows the very same problem,
however gimp does not bind libXt. In fact, there is no library that nedit,
xpaint, xfig, xmgrace, xpdf, and gimp have in common (according to ldd).

It seems unlikely that it is only me experiencing this problem. I tried to
figure out whether this problem has already been reported, but I could not
find such bug report. The issue is not particular severe (nothing crashes)
but should not be difficult to fix either. Should I file the bug for other
packages such as xserver-xorg-core or xserver-xorg-video-intel? Or drop an
email to the debia...@lists.debian.org?

Many thanks, and best regards,

As far as I can tell everything is possible. I would not know how to

There's debian/patches/fix-man-page-line-too-long.patch that's not in
the core version, but I don't think that's a big loss. Upstreaming it
would be good of course.

 Hi,

I got a new bug report saying that one package FTBFS because of an error
from intltool-update. I got that error multiple time (this is the first
time it appears in a rebuild for a package already in the archive, I
find that weird but maybe intltool behavior changed).

I am just hit by this bug when switching one of my packages from cdbs to dh.
I did not have this problem with cdbs, but cannot figure out why.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#603252: libthread-queue-perl: obsoleted by perl in squeeze

2010-11-12 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: libthread-queue-perl

I don't see any versioned dependencies (except those guarded with perl

Hi,

the CONFIG_PM_ADVANCED_DEBUG is currently not enabled in Debian kernels:

# CONFIG_PM_ADVANCED_DEBUG is not set

Without this option powertop complains with this message:

Suggestion: Enable the CONFIG_PM_ADVANCED_DEBUG kernel configuration option.
This option will allow PowerTOP to collect runtime power management

So could you please enable it ?

Bug#603255: moodle: Upgrade process fails on creating symlinks that already exist

2010-11-12 Thread Ryan Cartwright
Package: moodle
Version: 1.9.9.dfsg2-1

If you upgrade moodle it attempts to recreate two symlinks that
already exists and the installation fails because ln returns an error.
The two links are:

/usr/share/moodle/lib/smarty/libs
/usr/share/moodle/lib/yui/yui

Workaround is to delete those two symlinks prior to the upgrade.

Bug#603194: libogg0: libogg is not built with -fPIC

Hi Vladimir,

On Fri, Nov 12, 2010 at 10:38:52AM +0300, Vladimir Berezenko wrote:

I'm running debian on a powermac G5 quad with more than 4Gb of RAM.
Seems that this error is not affecting my G4 Pegasos2 with 1Gb.
AFAIK the ogg libs are built without PIC, because there are plenty of
R_PPC_REL24 in libogg.so. This leads to such an errors:
R_PPC_REL24 relocation at 0x0fae21d4 for symbol `memset' out of range
in some heavy applications built myself (e.x. in HandBrake or avidemux).
After rebuilding all the ogg stuff using the debian diffs and with
enabled --with-pic all R_PPC_RELNN are changed to R_PPC_RELATIVE and
everything started to build and work ok.

And this is with the current packages from Debian squeeze?
The build logs I can see show they were built with -fPIC

I've forwarded this to the powerpc porters list, in case they can
shed some light on any real issue with G5 machines.

The only thing that makes any sense to me at all so far would be
that the packages you are using were built with a broken libtool
or toolchain. But I'm not seeing how they would have got that way
or why nobody else would have run into this already unless it's
some local corruption on your machine.

Bug#603257: signing-party: pgpring should exclude expired signatures

2010-11-12 Thread Fabrizio Tarizzo
Package: signing-party
Version: 1.1.3-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

pgpring shows expired signatures in its output, without information
about expiration. If you use the pgpring output with keyanalyze, this
will cause incorrect computation of the MSD, because expired signatures
are counted as valid.

The attached patch:
1) adds the expiration date (if present) to keys
2) adds generation date and (if present) expiration date to signatures
3) adds a commandline option -e to exclude expired signatures from
   output
4) adds a commandline option -E to exclude expired keys from output

Bug#603173: backupninja: missing dependency: bc

2010-11-12 Thread intrigeri
rsync handler uses bc command (in function rotate and elsewhere in
the handler) so i guess 'bc' should be listed as dependency.

Most external tools that (at least) one backupninja handler uses are
currently Suggest:'ed rather than hard dependencies (BTW, duplicity
and rsync are not listed).

So I'd suggest adding bc to Suggest:, and document in README.Debian
what handler needs what packages. OTOH, as bc is Priority: standard,
and a pretty small package, I would not mind adding it as a hard
dependency to make things easier.

(A long term, more elegant solution would be to ship handlers in
backupninja-HANDLER packages, and each of these would have the proper
dependencies.)

Thoughts?

 Dear Debian folks,

I noticed that VGA toggling by using Fn + F5 is not working for me. I am
using DebPkg:gdm3 to log into LXDE.

When the login of GDM 3 is shown Fn + F5 works. But when I am logged into
LXDE it does not anymore. Somehow xrandr is failing.

Running `xrandr -q` from a LXTerminal works though.

Please tell me, if I need me to provide more information.

The affected packages were not changed lately, so I am still able to
reproduce this.

Does someone have an idea what could be wrong. I looked at the reports
of DebPkg:gdm3 [1] but could not find anything related.

Thanks,

Paul

Probably the fix

for #517997 (which is already archived) will fix this too.
Why is that fix not in lenny ?

Applying it local avoided the exception here (and thus getting a lot of
repeated bounce processing mails) today.

Bug#603263: portmap: Portmap won't start correctly nor stop at all

2010-11-12 Thread Kim Holviala

Package: portmap
Version: 6.0.0-2
Severity: normal

Portmapper stopped working on my Testing system a while ago.
Can't really tell when, but NFS worked ok for a long time
and then one day about a month ago I noticed that it just
didn't work. Didn't really debug the problem until now...

As for symptoms, stopping portmapper hangs forever (even when
shutting down the system):

x301:~# /etc/init.d/portmap stop
Stopping portmap daemon...

rpcinfo hangs too:

x301:~# ps -fu daemon | grep portmap
daemon 23200 1 0 12:49 ?00:00:00 portmap -v
x301:~# rpcinfo -p

NFS mounts hang forever:

x301:~# mount nas:/install /mnt

Even trying to manually debug portmapper does absolutely nothing:

x301:~# ps -fu daemon | grep portmap
daemon 23200 1 0 12:49 ?00:00:00 portmap -v
x301:~# kill -9 23200
x301:~# rm /var/run/portmap*
x301:~# portmap -d

The foreground portmap hangs forever and won't even close if
I ctrl-c it... Killing does work. Shouldn't portmap -v give
me a version number and then exit? That does absolutely nothing
on my system

Granted, I'm on a frankendebian system with packages from Testing,
Unstable, Experimental and Ubuntu... But apart from the 2.6.36
kernel form Experimental anything related to portmapper are
from Testing. And I'm 99% sure portmapper didn't work with the
standard Testing kernel either (because I only upgraded the
kernel about a week ago).

[after a quick reboot]

Yup, portmap is just as stuck with the default Testing kernel
2.6.32-5-amd64.

Hi, it's still on my TODO list, though unfortunately I have been rather

The thing is also: It's not ideal to put it on my own webspace again, nor
to use Phil's VM, since neither is an official Debian machine. So either
way, it would only be a temporary solution. :-|

Where can we find source and documentation about the jigdo search ?

One other note: debian/copyright should be updated to reflect the new website.

One problem with release candidates is that they reflect a snapshot
which sometimes will hav known bugs which will never be fixed.

The CVS head fixes all known issues with that what we called rc2.

The CVS head is stable. But you know, sometimes you check something in,
and after some short time of testing, you see that something should be
done a better way round.

I discourage to use rc2.

Currently we're awaiting an utf8-patch for call(1), and a patch for
mkiss and it's unix98 pty code in respect of embedded devices with stupid
commandline interpreters, where it's painful to parse environment
variables for the corresponding pty.

I'm running debian on a powermac G5 quad with more than 4Gb of RAM.

AFAIK the ogg libs are built without PIC, because there are plenty of
R_PPC_REL24 in libogg.so. This leads to such an errors:
R_PPC_REL24 relocation at 0x0fae21d4 for symbol `memset' out of range

After rebuilding all the ogg stuff using the debian diffs and with
enabled --with-pic all R_PPC_RELNN are changed to R_PPC_RELATIVE and
everything started to build and work ok.

And this is with the current packages from Debian squeeze?
The build logs I can see show they were built with -fPIC

I've forwarded this to the powerpc porters list, in case they can
shed some light on any real issue with G5 machines.

The only thing that makes any sense to me at all so far would be
that the packages you are using were built with a broken libtool
 or toolchain.

I'm not seeing any R_PPC_REL24 in the output of

objdump -R /usr/lib/libogg.so.0

with libogg0 1.2.0~dfsg-1 installed.

But I'm not seeing how they would have got that way or why nobody else
would have run into this already unless it's some local corruption on
 your machine.

That seems most likely at this point, otherwise please provide more
information Vladimir.

Bug#603269: aptitude should have a new Origine Browser view / export-import manual packages list

2010-11-12 Thread Jens Getreu
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1ubuntu10
Severity: wishlist

1. I sometime try out packages from a repository I include temporary. Then f.
ex. I find out that these packages installed are not stable enough and I want
to get rid of them.
It would be good if there where a new Origine Browser view like in synaptic,
where you can browse package according to there origin.

2. Besides, there should be an entry Reinstall package in the package menu.
This action is only available by typing L and new users will not find it.

3. It should be possible to export/import lists of packages tagged manual in
order to clone easily installations.

Regards Jens

Bug#593083: udev - system hangs at login screen

2010-11-12 Thread lukaspr...@gmail.com
I also experienced this bug. I am running Squeeze, and on performing a
safe-upgrade I experienced exactly the same symptoms. I managed to get
a working system by following the suggested workaround (suggested by OP
that is).

I asked for help in Debian help forums and had no reply, asked on
Linuxquestions, no reply. Eventually I tried the suggestion to update
initramfs, but obviously did something wrong and ended up with a
completely unbootable system.

I had to wipe it and reinstall in the end. Sorry can't provide more
details but I don't have the time to try to reproduce it. It is a
nasty bug though clearly so I thought I should at least register my
experience.

Regards

This appears to be still unfixed in current 0.4 and should be reported/

Given that libcloud is already outdated, has no reverse deps and
virtually no users in popcon, we should remove it from Squeeze.

I hardly see this as a bug for roundcube. flv_player.swf is shipped with

Well, but when the media plugin is removed from tinymce, your package

  won't it?

Is flv_player the only component of media plugin?

More or less, AFAICT there's nothing usable left once flv_player is
removed.

Bug#599291: isc-dhcp-server: hangs with 100% CPU load on startup

2010-11-12 Thread Alexander Clouter
Package: isc-dhcp-server
Version: 4.1.1-P1-11
Severity: normal

Problem is caused by the use of 'option slp-directory-agent' and/or 'option
slp-service-scope'. By removing these, dhcpd loads up normally:

berk:/home/alex# tail /var/tmp/dhcp-ldap-startup.log
}
}
}
shared-network lar-1 {
option domain-name soas.ac.uk;
option domain-name-servers 193.63.73.32;
option domain-search soas.ac.uk;
option wpad http://proxy.soas.ac.uk/;;
option slp-directory-agent true 212.219.139.134;
option slp-service-scope true SOAS_SCOPE;
--- 100% CPU SPIN HANG

Although I am using the LDAP functionality, it's repeated with the non-LDAP
enabled dhcpcd. This seems to be an upstream bug and linked to the parsing of
that option, attached is a backtrace of where it is looping:

(gdb) bt full

Bug#603275: apache2: When machine is booting, Apache2 does not bind to IPv6 address - needs restarting

2010-11-12 Thread G.P.
Package: apache2.2-common
Version: 2.2.16-3
Severity: important

When the machine is booting, apache does not bind to the IPv6 address:
postmortem:~# netstat -pan | grep LISTEN|grep apache
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:*LISTEN

But after a restarting:

postmortem:~# /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
Restarting web server: apache2 ... waiting .
postmortem:~#
postmortem:~# netstat -pan | grep LISTEN|grep apache
tcp6   0  0 :::80   :::*

it listens...

This was playing for a long time, but some weeks ago it started behaving
like that. The host is regularly kept up-to-date to debian squeeze.

Bug#603027: [Debian-med-packaging] Bug#603027: mgltools-pmv: missing dependency for python-imaging-tk idle-python2.6

2010-11-12 Thread Steffen Möller
Hello,

thank you for your bug hunting. The addition of python-imaging-tk is
rather straight-forward obviously. And then you say that idle-python2.5
should be lost as a dependency, right? But what about all those fellows
that run with python 2.5?

These are the idle-python packages

$ apt-cache search idle-python
idle-python2.5 - An IDE for Python (v2.5) using Tkinter
idle-python2.6 - An IDE for Python (v2.6) using Tkinter
idle-python3.1 - An IDE for Python (v3.1) using Tkinter
idle-python2.7 - An IDE for Python (v2.7) using Tkinter
idle-python3.2 - An IDE for Python (v3.2) using Tkinter

and for the very moment I tend to think that it should be up to the user
to provide that consistency. At least I have no idea how to express that
as a dependency. But you are right, this is definitely annoying.

I am not sure if those fixes should go into squeeze. Should they? Probably.

Would you want to comaintain those packages, btw?

Many greetings

Steffen

I was also missing idle-python2.* in squeeze, but that has been fixed

On my system, this installed idle-python2.5 instead of idle-python2.6,

How on the earth is this severity important? Experimental is just what
it is - the experimental. You should not rely on it for anything but
 experiments.

sorry if i misunderstand the severity level, at least for me it was
important, and the other levels of severity doesn't seems to reflect the
importance which represents for me to have such a package in an
experimental / unstable state.

wishlist doesn't seems to be the right severity when i found such a
package doesn't exist anymore, as the package already existed before.
Now, according to your point of view, i agree that such level of
severity is according to the needs.

Anyway... php5-fpm will be added to unstable after squeeze release
again, but right now it just didn't have enough testing to go to next
 stable.

what i was asking was not to put php5-fpm into squeeze, of course it
will not have enough testing, but what i am asking is to have such
package in experimental/unstable, so the community can test it and
report bugs for inclusion on the next testing period of Debian.

 Ondrej.

Thank you Ondrej and the Debian Community for your great Job!

python-ordereddict is a drop-in substitute for Py2.7's new

big-oh
performance that matches regular dictionaries (amortized O(1)
insertion/deletion/lookup and O(n) iteration/repr/copy/equality_testing).

Bug#603279: libopencascade-foundation-6.3.0: TKjcas lib is missing from package

2010-11-12 Thread Yorik van Havre
Package: libopencascade-foundation-6.3.0
Version: 6.3.0.dfsg.1-6
Severity: normal

Hi there,
the libTKjcas-6.3.0.so library is missing from some of the packages (amd64,
i386), although it is informed in the package description and appears in some
other packages (hppa, kfreebsd). I'm not totally sure what it is used for, but
it is needed by pythonOCC, so I suppose it makes sense to be included... I
think if I recall correctly in ealier versions that library was included too...
Cheers
Yorik

Bug#603282: ax25mail-utils: Misses config files

2010-11-12 Thread John Goerzen
Package: ax25mail-utils
Version: 0.11-6.1
Severity: normal

The manpage for, for example, axgetlist doesn't document
axgetlist.conf. Nor does the README, which refers to it and a bunch
of other files. In other words, the config files are
self-documenting.

However, this package doesn't ship them. They're all in the conf/
directory in the source but the package is pretty useless without
having any idea how to set it up.

It is a pretty tight requirement in Ubuntu, though.

Anyway, on Debian it doesn't matter if it succeeds or fails; I don't
consider it very urgent to change it, do you?

and unnecessary (you know at build time whether you're building for
ubuntu, so don't need a runtime check). Can this be fixed please?

It'd require some packaging changes, like moving to a postinst.in, and
doing some dynamic replacement there in debian/rules. This might cause
more trouble than it'd fix, but if you consider that important for
Squeeze, I'll find some time for it.

Thanks,

Bug#382686: /usr/lib/jni not put in java.library.path, sun java 5 and 6

2010-11-12 Thread Scott Howard
affects 382686 sun-java6-jre
thanks

I would to revisit this bug. I agree with the debian policy decision
to keep compiled binaries in /usr/lib/jni/, but I'm getting frequent
bug reports and emails form users of a library I maintain telling me
that I installed the library to the wrong location [1-8, and personal
correspondence]. I know we can't change the binaries, but can we
somehow export this simple variable [9] in a wrapper so that all
systems (that install sun-java) know to look in /usr/lib/jni? I think
that would be a simple solution that will satisfy users so that they
don't think our libraries are all broken.

Thanks for the consideration.

 Hi there,
the libTKjcas-6.3.0.so library is missing from some of the packages (amd64,
i386), although it is informed in the package description and appears in some
other packages (hppa, kfreebsd). I'm not totally sure what it is used for, but
it is needed by pythonOCC, so I suppose it makes sense to be included... I
think if I recall correctly in ealier versions that library was included
 too...

Bug#603284: pdftk: corrupts XMP metadata

2010-11-12 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: pdftk
Version: 1.41+dfsg-9
Severity: normal

Attached are two PDF files. output.pdf has some XMP metadata that is
compressed. Running pdftk output.pdf output uncomp.pdf uncompress
produces uncomp.pdf. However, uncomp.pdf has corrupt XMP metadata.
This is because it inserts an xmp:ModifyDate element into the metadata,
but does not ensure that there is a namespace declaration for the xmp
prefix. Consequently, the XML is ill-formed.

Ideally, pdftk would not modify the XMP metadata at all, but if it must,
it should ensure that the XMP metadata it outputs is always well-formed
XML.

When an explicit port number is selected in /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf using
 server.port               = 81
the  /usr/share/lighttpd/use-ipv6.pl script still listens on port 80 for IPV6

I know. In that case you're required to disable the use-ipv6 include.

Bug#603286: plymouth: The Debian open logo with Debian is not compliant to the Debian policy

2010-11-12 Thread Didier Raboud

Hi,

in the same vein as #587668, the plymouth package as shipped in Squeeze (sid
is affected too AFAIK) carries the debian word derived from the DOUL-with
logo. See [0] for a rough analysis.

I attached a patch in which I replace the debian word png by the swirl png
of approximately the same size.

Cheers,

Bug#603287: mutt-patched: Mail count not right-aligned in the sidebar when folder name contains mutlibyte utf8 chars

2010-11-12 Thread Julien Valroff
Package: mutt-patched
Version: 1.5.21-1
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi,

When the folder names contain multibyte utf8 chars, the message count is not
correctly right-aligned in the sidebar, eg.

 SampleFolder 50
 French-é103
 French-à 96
 OtherFolder 32

It does happen with unread/flagged messages as well.

It seems it is due to the use of strlen() which doesn't count the number of
chars in a string, but the number of bytes, eg. it returns 5 for 'teste' but
6 for 'testé'.

I haven't been able to find the exact portion of code which should be fixed
but I would be happy to test any proposal, or even try and work on a patch
if someone could guide me.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#603290: mutt: when viewing a message with attachments, filenames are cropped

2010-11-12 Thread support
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.20-5~bpo50+1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

when I'm composing a message with attachments, filenames are cropped to
40 characters, which is often much less than I need. I'd like to see
the filenames take up as much space as is available. Using xterms, this
can be anything from a small number to a large number. Eg. my xterm is
currently 174 chars wide, and could be even wider, thus leaving ample
space wasted.

Kind regards,
--Toni++

This bug seem be patched in the upstream version.

Bug#603291: mutt: unable to attach folder

2010-11-12 Thread Toni Mueller
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.20-9
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Hello,

I'd like to attach folders with everything contained. This would spare
me the tedious process of attaching one file after the other while
navigating the tree, and also spare the problem of possible name
collision.

I know I could create an archive, eg. using tar or zip, but would prefer
to not do this, since the other side then complains about the work to
unpack those.

Kind regards,

Please unblock package software-properties

A recent upload fixed a good amount of horrible bugs. It's still not
perfect, and we're trying to decide what to do about the rest of problems,
but in any case, this version is *much* better than what we have now.

This appears to be still unfixed in current 0.4 and should be reported/
 fixed upstream.

Given that libcloud is already outdated, has no reverse deps and
virtually no users in popcon, we should remove it from Squeeze.

Please (not just you, possibly anyone who can test it), just check [1],
then decide freely - I'm not necessarily against removing it, but it's
apparently not that hard to keep it.

Bug#602571: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#602571: cannot build due to ESSENTIAL dep phase

2010-11-12 Thread Loïc Minier
Hey

On Sat, Nov 06, 2010, Roger Leigh wrote:
That attached patch is a crude attempt to find and eliminate
provided virtual packages before we try to install them.
If you could try it (against current git master), that would
 be great.

I could still do with the debug output and other tests from
 my earlier mails, though.

I tried applying the patch on top of 0.60.4 which I think is posterior
to this comment, but I got:

Bug#602571: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#602571: cannot build due to ESSENTIAL dep phase

2010-11-12 Thread Loïc Minier
On Sat, Nov 06, 2010, Roger Leigh wrote:
Grr, that's annoying. I've not seen this on Debian, but I do have the
actual sysvinit package installed. So it's likely an issue with
checking if virtual packages are installed.

There's a quick and easy way to reproduce if you're tempted! ;-)
Launchpad exposes the chroot tarballs used for Ubuntu buildds via it's
 web API.

To setup, I use this schroot.conf snippet:
[natty]
type=file
description=Ubuntu natty
root-users=lool
file=/srv/schroot/chroot-ubuntu-natty-amd64.tar.bz2
location=/chroot-autobuild
preserve-environment=true

/srv/schroot/chroot-ubuntu-natty-amd64.tar.bz2 is the chroot used on
Launchpad buildds for natty/amd64. I'm attaching dl-lp-chroot which
downloads such a chroot; it's a trivial wrapper around
 https://launchpad.net/api/devel/ubuntu/$dist/$arch/chroot_url URLs
