Bug#598925: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the strongswan package
Dear maintainer of strongswan and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the strongswan Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU, so I will proceed with it. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de es eu fi fr gl ja nb nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: eu fi gl nb nl pt_BR If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the strongswan package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, November 16, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Thursday, November 11, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Friday, November 12, 2010 : send this notice Tuesday, November 16, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Wednesday, November 17, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Friday, November 19, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: strongs...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2010-08-16 14:23+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n Language: \n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Also gimp (2.6.10-1, as it comes with squeeze) shows the very same problem, however gimp does not bind libXt. In fact, there is no library that nedit, xpaint, xfig, xmgrace, xpdf, and gimp have in common (according to ldd). It seems unlikely that it is only me experiencing this problem. I tried to figure out whether this problem has already been reported, but I could not find such bug report. Bug#603194: libogg0: libogg is not built with -fPIC
Hi Vladimir, On Fri, Nov 12, 2010 at 10:38:52AM +0300, Vladimir Berezenko wrote: Sorry that I've made my bug-report so messy. But I really have a bug. I'm running debian on a powermac G5 quad with more than 4Gb of RAM. Seems that this error is not affecting my G4 Pegasos2 with 1Gb. AFAIK the ogg libs are built without PIC, because there are plenty of R_PPC_REL24 in libogg.so. This leads to such an errors: R_PPC_REL24 relocation at 0x0fae21d4 for symbol `memset' out of range in some heavy applications built myself (e.x. in HandBrake or avidemux). After rebuilding all the ogg stuff using the debian diffs and with enabled --with-pic all R_PPC_RELNN are changed to R_PPC_RELATIVE and everything started to build and work ok. And this is with the current packages from Debian squeeze? The build logs I can see show they were built with -fPIC I've forwarded this to the powerpc porters list, in case they can shed some light on any real issue with G5 machines. The only thing that makes any sense to me at all so far would be that the packages you are using were built with a broken libtool or toolchain. But I'm not seeing how they would have got that way or why nobody else would have run into this already unless it's some local corruption on your machine. Bug#603173: backupninja: missing dependency: bc
rsync handler uses bc command (in function rotate and elsewhere in the handler) so i guess 'bc' should be listed as dependency. Most external tools that (at least) one backupninja handler uses are currently Suggest:'ed rather than hard dependencies (BTW, duplicity and rsync are not listed). So I'd suggest adding bc to Suggest:, and document in README.Debian what handler needs what packages. OTOH, as bc is Priority: standard, and a pretty small package, I would not mind adding it as a hard dependency to make things easier. (A long term, more elegant solution would be to ship handlers in backupninja-HANDLER packages, and each of these would have the proper dependencies.) Thoughts? Bug#603263: portmap: Portmap won't start correctly nor stop at all
Package: portmap Version: 6.0.0-2 Severity: normal Portmapper stopped working on my Testing system a while ago. Can't really tell when, but NFS worked ok for a long time and then one day about a month ago I noticed that it just didn't work. Didn't really debug the problem until now... As for symptoms, stopping portmapper hangs forever (even when shutting down the system): x301:~# /etc/init.d/portmap stop Stopping portmap daemon... rpcinfo hangs too: x301:~# ps -fu daemon | grep portmap daemon 23200 1 0 12:49 ?00:00:00 portmap -v x301:~# rpcinfo -p NFS mounts hang forever: x301:~# mount nas:/install /mnt Even trying to manually debug portmapper does absolutely nothing: x301:~# ps -fu daemon | grep portmap daemon 23200 1 0 12:49 ?00:00:00 portmap -v x301:~# kill -9 23200 x301:~# rm /var/run/portmap* x301:~# portmap -d The foreground portmap hangs forever and won't even close if I ctrl-c it... Killing does work. Shouldn't portmap -v give me a version number and then exit? That does absolutely nothing on my system Granted, I'm on a frankendebian system with packages from Testing, Unstable, Experimental and Ubuntu... But apart from the 2.6.36 kernel form Experimental anything related to portmapper are from Testing. And I'm 99% sure portmapper didn't work with the standard Testing kernel either (because I only upgraded the kernel about a week ago). Bug#603169: ax25-tools: kissnetd broken with PTYs
Hello, On 2010-11-11 10:38:26 -0600, John Goerzen jgoer...@complete.org wrote in 2010163826.30181.20655.report...@hephaestus.lan.complete.org: Package: ax25-tools Version: 0.0.8-13.1 Severity: normal kissnetd assumes old-style PTYs, which are no longer supported. It is available from http://www.linux-ax25.org/wiki/CVS -- http://www.linux-ax25.org/pub/ax25-tools/ax25-tools-0.0.10-rc2.tar.gz and may also need the new library http://www.linux-ax25.org/pub/libax25/libax25-0.0.12-rc2.tar.gz One other note: debian/copyright should be updated to reflect the new website. One problem with release candidates is that they reflect a snapshot which sometimes will hav known bugs which will never be fixed. The CVS head fixes all known issues with that what we called rc2. The CVS head is stable. But you know, sometimes you check something in, and after some short time of testing, you see that something should be done a better way round. I discourage to use rc2. Currently we're awaiting an utf8-patch for call(1), and a patch for mkiss and it's unix98 pty code in respect of embedded devices with stupid commandline interpreters, where it's painful to parse environment variables for the corresponding pty. Bug#603194: libogg0: libogg is not built with -fPIC

I'm not seeing any R_PPC_REL24 in the output of objdump -R /usr/lib/libogg.so.0 with libogg0 1.2.0~dfsg-1 installed. But I'm not seeing how they would have got that way or why nobody else would have run into this already unless it's some local corruption on your machine. That seems most likely at this point, otherwise please provide more information Vladimir. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer |http://www.vmware.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I also experienced this bug. I am running Squeeze, and on performing a safe-upgrade I experienced exactly the same symptoms. I managed to get a working system by following the suggested workaround (suggested by OP that is). I asked for help in Debian help forums and had no reply, asked on Linuxquestions, no reply. Eventually I tried the suggestion to update initramfs, but obviously did something wrong and ended up with a completely unbootable system. I had to wipe it and reinstall in the end. Sorry can't provide more details but I don't have the time to try to reproduce it. It is a nasty bug though clearly so I thought I should at least register my experience. Bug#603027: [Debian-med-packaging] Bug#603027: mgltools-pmv: missing dependency for python-imaging-tk idle-python2.6
Hello, thank you for your bug hunting. The addition of python-imaging-tk is rather straight-forward obviously. And then you say that idle-python2.5 should be lost as a dependency, right? But what about all those fellows that run with python 2.5? These are the idle-python packages $ apt-cache search idle-python idle-python2.5 - An IDE for Python (v2.5) using Tkinter idle-python2.6 - An IDE for Python (v2.6) using Tkinter idle-python3.1 - An IDE for Python (v3.1) using Tkinter idle-python2.7 - An IDE for Python (v2.7) using Tkinter idle-python3.2 - An IDE for Python (v3.2) using Tkinter and for the very moment I tend to think that it should be up to the user to provide that consistency. At least I have no idea how to express that as a dependency. But you are right, this is definitely annoying. I am not sure if those fixes should go into squeeze. Should they? Probably. Bug#603174: [php-maint] Bug#603174: php5-fpm does not exist anymore
El jue, 11-11-2010 a las 18:58 +0100, Ondřej Surý escribió: severity 603174 wishlist retitle 603174 Build php5-fpm SAPI thank you How on the earth is this severity important? Experimental is just what it is - the experimental. You should not rely on it for anything but experiments. sorry if i misunderstand the severity level, at least for me it was important, and the other levels of severity doesn't seems to reflect the importance which represents for me to have such a package in an experimental / unstable state. wishlist doesn't seems to be the right severity when i found such a package doesn't exist anymore, as the package already existed before. Now, according to your point of view, i agree that such level of severity is according to the needs. Anyway... php5-fpm will be added to unstable after squeeze release again, but right now it just didn't have enough testing to go to next stable. what i was asking was not to put php5-fpm into squeeze, of course it will not have enough testing, but what i am asking is to have such package in experimental/unstable, so the community can test it and report bugs for inclusion on the next testing period of Debian. Anyway, on Debian it doesn't matter if it succeeds or fails; I don't consider it very urgent to change it, do you? and unnecessary (you know at build time whether you're building for ubuntu, so don't need a runtime check). Can this be fixed please? It'd require some packaging changes, like moving to a postinst.in, and doing some dynamic replacement there in debian/rules. This might cause more trouble than it'd fix, but if you consider that important for Squeeze, I'll find some time for it. Bug#382686: /usr/lib/jni not put in java.library.path, sun java 5 and 6
affects 382686 sun-java6-jre thanks I would to revisit this bug. I agree with the debian policy decision to keep compiled binaries in /usr/lib/jni/, but I'm getting frequent bug reports and emails form users of a library I maintain telling me that I installed the library to the wrong location [1-8, and personal correspondence]. I know we can't change the binaries, but can we somehow export this simple variable [9] in a wrapper so that all systems (that install sun-java) know to look in /usr/lib/jni? I think that would be a simple solution that will satisfy users so that they don't think our libraries are all broken. Thanks for the consideration. Bug#603284: pdftk: corrupts XMP metadata
Package: pdftk Version: 1.41+dfsg-9 Severity: normal Attached are two PDF files. output.pdf has some XMP metadata that is compressed. Running pdftk output.pdf output uncomp.pdf uncompress produces uncomp.pdf. However, uncomp.pdf has corrupt XMP metadata. This is because it inserts an xmp:ModifyDate element into the metadata, but does not ensure that there is a namespace declaration for the xmp prefix. Consequently, the XML is ill-formed. Ideally, pdftk would not modify the XMP metadata at all, but if it must, it should ensure that the XMP metadata it outputs is always well-formed XML. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages pdftk depends on: ii libbcmail-java 1.44+dfsg-2 Bouncy Castle generators/processor ii libbcprov-java 1.44+dfsg-2 Bouncy Castle Java Cryptographic S ii libc62.11.2-7Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.5.1-9 GCC support library ii libgcj-bc4.4.5-1 Link time only library for use wit ii libgcj10 4.4.5-2 Java runtime library for use with ii libitext-java2.1.7-2 Java Library to create and manipul ii libitext-java-gcj2.1.7-2 Java Library to create and manipul ii libstdc++6 4.5.1-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 pdftk recommends no packages. It seems it is due to the use of strlen() which doesn't count the number of chars in a string, but the number of bytes, eg. it returns 5 for 'teste' but 6 for 'testé'. I haven't been able to find the exact portion of code which should be fixed but I would be happy to test any proposal, or even try and work on a patch if someone could guide me. Bug#603290: mutt: when viewing a message with attachments, filenames are cropped
Package: mutt Version: 1.5.20-5~bpo50+1 Severity: wishlist Hi, when I'm composing a message with attachments, filenames are cropped to 40 characters, which is often much less than I need. I'd like to see the filenames take up as much space as is available. Using xterms, this can be anything from a small number to a large number. Eg. my xterm is currently 174 chars wide, and could be even wider, thus leaving ample space wasted. I'm still committed to fix it (and also asked for help upstream), but have no precise idea of the time it will take. In particular, any help is appreciated. This appears to be still unfixed in current 0.4 and should be reported/ fixed upstream. Given that libcloud is already outdated, has no reverse deps and virtually no users in popcon, we should remove it from Squeeze. Please (not just you, possibly anyone who can test it), just check [1], then decide freely - I'm not necessarily against removing it, but it's apparently not that hard to keep it. bye Pietro [1]: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-libcloud/201011.mbox/%3c1289241616.27934.29.ca...@voubian.casa%3e signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#602571: [buildd-tools-devel] Bug#602571: cannot build due to ESSENTIAL dep phase

On Sat, Nov 06, 2010, Roger Leigh wrote: Grr, that's annoying. I've not seen this on Debian, but I do have the actual sysvinit package installed. So it's likely an issue with checking if virtual packages are installed. There's a quick and easy way to reproduce if you're tempted! ;-) Launchpad exposes the chroot tarballs used for Ubuntu buildds via it's web API. To setup, I use this schroot.conf snippet: [natty] type=file description=Ubuntu natty root-users=lool file=/srv/schroot/chroot-ubuntu-natty-amd64.tar.bz2 location=/chroot-autobuild preserve-environment=true /srv/schroot/chroot-ubuntu-natty-amd64.tar.bz2 is the chroot used on Launchpad buildds for natty/amd64. I'm attaching dl-lp-chroot which downloads such a chroot; it's a trivial wrapper around https://launchpad.net/api/devel/ubuntu/$dist/$arch/chroot_url URLs -- Loïc Minier #!/bin/sh # dl-lp-chroot - download a chroot tarball from Launchpad # Copyright (C) 2010 Loïc Minier l...@dooz.org # # Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a # copy of this software and associated documentation files (the Software), # to deal in the Software without restriction, including without limitation # the rights to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, # and/or sell copies of the Software, and to permit persons to whom the # Software is furnished to do so, subject to the following conditions: # # The above copyright notice and this permission notice shall be included in # all copies or substantial portions of the Software. # # THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED AS IS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR # IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, # FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.
