Care to explain why pre-depends is the right fix here?

The version of aribas in squeeze does not depend on emacsen-common,
the one in lenny does. Both of these versions install fine, however
when upgrading a lenny system (wihout any emacsen installed) to
squeeze we get the following:

Preparing to replace aribas 1.63-2 (using .../aribas_1.64-3_amd64.deb) ...
ERROR: emacsen-common being used before being configured.
ERROR: This is likely a bug in the aribas package, which needs to

  ERROR: See /usr/share/doc/emacsen-common/debian-emacs-policy.gz
  ERROR: for details.
dpkg: warning: subprocess old pre-removal script returned error exit status
2

Now this might be due to some overly eager check of dpkg. I didn't try to
investigate this; the change in aribas_1.64-4 fixes this for the squeeze
release without having to touch dpkg. As soon as we do not have to care
anymore for that particular upgrade path we can turn the Pre-Depends back
to Depends.

OK? -Ralf.

Bug#603997: mono-gmcs: mono is locale dependent (can't compile unicode things when not in a unicode locale)

2010-11-19 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Package: mono-gmcs
Version: 2.6.7-3ubuntu1
Severity: important

When compiling a program with a unicode character in a string literal, or
embedding files with unicode characters as a resource, Mono does not interpret
the unicode characters properly, unless the locale is set to a unicode one,
e.g. en_SG.utf8

This causes issues with builds done in buildds as the locale is not set in thoes
buildds, or at least not set to a unicode one. There have been several cases of
Monodevelop generated Gtk+ sources containing Unicode characters in their
literals that require manual patching to fix.

Another issue is with Banshee's embedding of translators names/e-mails as an XML
resource, resulting in misinterpretation of the string when Banshee is compiled
in a non-unicode locale.

Bug#603936: Wrong spanish encoding in Debian installer

  Sorry, here it is.

It seems the spanish translation file's utf-8 encoding got damaged by
being treated with some msg tool in non-utf-8 locale. Here is a patch
 which should fix it.

I'm not sure this is the problem.

Contrary to what I mentioned yesterday, the problem is not fixed in
tasksel 2.83.

Indeed the tasks/po file is UTF-8 encoded, at least the usefuml part
of it, but the PO file header announces it as
ISO-8859-15. Additionnally, the obsolete strings, at the end of the
file, do contain some ISO-stone-age encoded characters. In short, the
file is a mix of UTF-8 and ISO.

I just dropped the obsolete strings, fixed the file's header and
commited this to my local git copy. Needs to be pushed.

I'd really love seeing people abandon the stone age ISO
encodings:-|

Bug#603974: live-installer should depend and use console-setup-udeb

Something changed in how console-setup-udeb is handled in d-i, and for
squeeze i found that depending on it and invoking the postinst would
  succeed.

I don't understand this. How was console-setup-udeb involved in
 live-installer before?

I didn't checked how it was handled before, maybe something changed in base-
installer, of which live-installer exploits some helpers.

As I understand your sentences, live-installer
seems to be using the kbd-chooser udeb, and installing console-setup in
 the installer system.

It does not do that directly, my guessing is that it was automatically cared
of before.

If so, then the bug is rather in console-setup,
 not in console-setup-udeb.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the case, I checked what console-setup does in the
target and it is doing it right, but its debconf database it is empty (I mean
default values).

From what I understood kbd-chooser ask keyboard layout question and translate
its results to console-setup debconf values, then console-setup-udeb
propagates them to the target system.

auto-install udeb do something similar as my patch does. It depends on
console-setup-udeb and explicitly calls its postinst.

Depending on console-setup-udeb is just a
convoluted way to fix things, as I guess what its postinst does to fix
this in your case is just doing what console-setup is supposed to be
doing in the installed system, already...

This is probably true. My patch seems hackish even to me although it works, I
hope that someone with a deeper understanding of debian-installer internals
could provide a cleaner fix if possible.

Anyway this fix is better than having an user unable to have its keyboard
supported at all.

Wrong details, I suspect. With an unreproducible bug like the one you've
got, we need to make it reproducible before it can be fixed. For that to
happen, we need to be able to do what you did to make it happen. Until
then, we're helpless.

What we need is a description of how, *precisely*, and in excruciating
detail, you created the partitions manually. Did you drop into a console
and issue partman/mkfs/mount commands by hand? If so, what commands did you
run, exactly? Or did you use the manual method within partman (the
text-based GUI)? Again, if so, what precisely did you do? (As in, First I
selected the 'Flibble with my frufru' option, then 'Blingle the blangle',
then 'You get the idea'... Or did you do something else entirely? If so,
what was it? (Again, in very fine-grained detail).

- Matt

If you don't want to fix it, I do not care. I did not create the
partition manullay outside the installer but I created them manually
within the installer using the graphical install.

I seems, you should know weher you do the chmod 1777 /tmp in the
installer and look if there are installation path that do not use this path.

 epp...@qnap:~$ dpkg -s fping | grep Version
 Version: 2.4b2-to-ipv6-15

Please note that you initially reported this with -16, and the other
report happened with -16.1. I believe -16 fixed much in this area,
so reports about -15 aren't unfortunately very useful.

As I said earlier, -16.1 can be installed on a lenny system without any
dependency problems, and that's what the other reporter did.

No other broken system reported yet with -16.1 AFAICS. Still weird.

installed -16.1 (I was to fast yesterday) and the problem has gone.

Bug#604000: libomhacks0: tighter dependencies between omhacks/libomhacks?

2010-11-19 Thread Paul Wise
Package: libomhacks0
Severity: wishlist

I had libomhacks0 0.11-2 and omhacks 0.12-0~fso1. I tried to run a
command and got this:

$ om screen glamo-bus-timings
om: symbol lookup error: om: undefined symbol: om_screen_glamo_bus_timings_get

Other commands worked fine. I'm thinking that the shlibs needs to be
updated or a symbols file needs to be added so that apps using
libomhacks0 get the right version for the symbols that they use.

If you don't want to fix it, I do not care.

We DO want to fix it. But we can't fix something that we don't

permissions. So there must be something that we are doing differently.
It could even be a completely unrelated detail like language, chosen debian
mirror, etc. That's why we need precise details to be able to reproduce
the issue, and thus fix it.

I seems, you should know weher you do the chmod 1777 /tmp in the installer and
look if there are installation path that do not use this path.

We do now where that is done, and we do already know that there are not
supposed to be installation paths where it's not done.

Putting it another way: we have already stared deeply at the code, and
didn't find any bug with it, but apparently there's one, so we need to
know which case make it happen.

Bug#575582: openssh-server: privsep directory disappeared on upgrade

2010-11-19 Thread Stefano Rivera
found 575582 1:5.1p1-5
severity 575582 serious
affects 575582 upgrade-reports
thanks

I just ran into this on a remote upgrade.

I was upgrading a (fortunately not too remote) machine using ssh +
screen from my laptop. When I switched wifi AP and tried to reattach my
screen, I couldn't:

| $ ssh dreamcoat -t screen -DR
| ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

And in auth.log:

| sshd[16271]: fatal: Missing privilege separation directory: /var/run/sshd

I had to reattach from a VT and continue the upgrade there, until it got
to openssh-server's postinst and I could ssh in again. There were
pending debconf questions, I couldn't simply wait for it to start
working again.

I can easily reproduce this in a minimal VM with openssh-server
installed.

The problem seems to be that /var/run/sshd is removed on unpacking but
only recreated in postinst. One cannot ssh in to the machine in-between.
I consider this to be release-critical and am bumping the bug
appropriately.

Bug#604002: network-manager-vpnc: vpnc always crashes when enabled

2010-11-19 Thread Paul Millar
Package: network-manager-vpnc
Version: 0.8.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream

I am running Debain Sid.

The KDE system tray utility knetworkmanager (package as network-manager-kde)
provides
the ability to control a computer's network connections via the network-manager
framework. One part of this framework is support for Cisco VPN.

I have configured a Cisco VPN connection and the knetworkmanager tray shows
this
option when I right-click on the system-tray icon. By default, the VPN is not
enabled, but can be enabled by selecting the VPN in the knetworkmanager display
(shown
when I right-click on the system-tray item). When I enable the Cisco VPN, the
knetworkmanager crashes. It does this every time I enable the Cisco VPN.

It is unclear to me whether the problem is with the network-manager-kde package
or the
network-manager-vpnc package.

The Cisco settings I have configured has worked in the past (with a previous
version
of the software), so I suspect that either the API of the vpnc package has
changed or
the KDE network-manager package has introduced a bug.

I have seen a couple of upstream bugs that sound similar to this issue in the
KDE bug
tracker. They are for different distributions, so I believe this issue is not
Debian-specific.

Cheers,

Paul.

The only ways I know to input a Greek character
 on inkscape are

 1. Type Ctrl+U and 03b1 to get an alpha;
 2. Copy and paste from other applications.

I think both are rather inconvenient.
I wish there were a more convenient way.

Bug#604004: package Description: doesn't mention XSL-FO

2010-11-19 Thread Ivan Shmakov
Package: docbook-xsl-ns
Version: 1.75.2+dfsg-5
Severity: wishlist

It's common to abbreviate “XSL Formatting Objects” as XSL-FO:
both English Wikipedia uses this term (say, [1]), and the XSL
1.1 specification [2] makes a reference to it.

Yet, while DocBook 5 XSL certainly allows one to produce XSL-FO,
the straightforward ‘$ apt-cache search xsl-fo ’ search has no
mention of the package. Indeed, the description reads:

The stylesheets provide XSLT transformations for (X)HTML, WordML, HTML Help,
JavaHelp, Man page (nroff), Website, Eclipse Platform Help file and Formatting
Object (FO) output. The latter can be further processed to a number of print
formats using FOP or TeX-based tools.

Therefore, I suggest the following change:

The stylesheets provide XSLT transformations for (X)HTML, WordML, HTML Help,

Bug#604007: Bad line reading interface information

2010-11-19 Thread x
package: isc-dhcp-client
version: 4.1.1-P1-12

hi!

I kept getting the following error message from dhclient after some uptime:

Bad line reading interface information

Turns out the error occurs parsing /proc/net/dev.
While the syntax of /proc/net/dev seemed ok, i had absurdly high counter values
on one interface:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr de:ad:be:ef:ca:fe
  UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:4158662212925880 errors:24951973277555280

  TX packets:4158662212925880 errors:16634653146670815 dropped:0
overruns:4158662212925880 carrier:8317324425851760
  collisions:20793311064629400 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:4158662212925880 (3.6 PiB) TX bytes:4158662212925880 (3.6
PiB)
  Interrupt:44

after resetting these counters to 0 (module unload/reload), dhclient works
again.

I don't know where these counter values come from, it's probably a module bug.
Then again the values as such are totally valid and theoretically possible. I
think dhclient should use the same data type/supported ranges for these
counters if it wants to parse /proc/net/dev.
btw: i tried to configure a different interface, not eth0. I.e. skipping
parsing the rest of lines of interfaces dhclient doesn't deal with might be a
better strategy regarding fault tolerance.

regards,

Chris

Bug#604008: package Description: doesn't mention neither XSL-FO, nor RTF, etc.

2010-11-19 Thread Ivan Shmakov
Package: fop
Version: 1:1.0.dfsg-3
Severity: wishlist

It's common to abbreviate “XSL Formatting Objects” as XSL-FO:
both English Wikipedia uses this term (say, [1]), and the XSL
1.1 specification [2] makes a reference to it.

Yet, while FOP may consume XSL-FO, and produce a wide variety of
presentations, the straightforward ‘$ apt-cache search xsl-fo ’
search results in no mention of the package (neither the search
for, say, “rtf” results in one.) Indeed, the description reads:

Description: XML to PDF Translator
FOP is a print formatter driven by XSL formatting objects.
It is a Java application that reads a formatting object
tree and then turns it into a PDF document. The formatting
object tree can be in the form of an XML document (output by
an XSLT engine like xalan) or can be passed in memory as a DOM
Document or (in the case of xalan) SAX events.

Therefore, I suggest the description to be changed as follows:

Description: FOP is an XML formatter driven by XSL Formatting Objects (XSL-FO.)
FOP is a Java application that reads a formatting object tree and then
turns it into a wide variety of output presentations (including AFP,
PCL, PDF, PNG, PostScript, RTF, TIFF, and plain text), or displays
 the result on-screen.
 .
The formatting object tree can be in the form of an XML document
(output by an XSLT engine like xalan) or can be passed in memory as a
DOM Document or (in the case of xalan) SAX events.

Anyway definition for grave is makes the package in question unusable

This situation is definitely not affecting most or all users and also
does not cause data loss nor introduce security hole.

Bug#604011: 99mini-buildd: Logs to stderr (causing false-positiv daily error mails)

2010-11-19 Thread Stephan Sürken
Package: mini-buildd-bld
Severity: minor

Hi,

newer (squeeze) schroot version produce E: OUTPUT-like output
for anything written to stderr by any setup.d hook script.

99mini-buildd does log some lines (to stderr). I guess the right
thing is just not to do that in a setup.d script.

This eventually tricks the grep magic in
/etc/cron.daily/mini-buildd-rep to report false-positive errors
in daily mail (which is quite annoying).

MfG,

Bug#604004: package Description: doesn't mention XSL-FO

2010-11-19 Thread Ivan Shmakov
The description also has no explicit mention of XHTML:

The stylesheets provide XSLT transformations for (X)HTML, WordML, HTML Help,

Arguably, it would be better to explicitly mention
“XHTML, HTML”, so that the package would be among the
“$ apt-cache search xhtml” results.

Bug#604014: The options variable in dupload.conf is undocumented

2010-11-19 Thread Antonino Murador
Package: dupload
Version: 2.6.6
Severity: minor

I was trying to setup dupload to use an alternative ssh identity. At last I
discovered that this can be achieved by setting the variable options, as
shown below:

$cfg{'foo'} = {
fqdn = debian.mydomain.com,
method = scpb,
incoming = /mydir/incoming,
dinstall_runs = 1,
nonus = 1,
options = -i ~/.ssh/id_dsa.other,
};

I cannot find any reference to this variable in the standard documentation:

man dupload.conf
info dupload.conf
/usr/share/doc/dupload/

I suggest that package documentation should be updated.

Bug#603709: CVE-2010-3864 - what's vulnerable?

2010-11-19 Thread Tim Small
Package: openssl
Severity: normal

I've tried to research what's likely to actually be vulnerable to this
issue, in terms of Debian packages or other commonly used third party
apps, but couldn't find anything.

Is anything which ships with Lenny / Squeeze actually vulnerable to this
in it's default config or otherwise?

Thanks,

Tim.

The real fix must be something that changed in the build dependencies,

Bug#603938: debian-installer: The 1st CD doesn't contain desktop nor laptop tasks

2010-11-19 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Hi,

On Fri, 19 Nov 2010, Holger Levsen wrote:

Unfortunately, that's expected result. As discussed on

So let's close this bug. There is no need and gain to keep this bug report
open (against general at least), CDs wont grow in size and I'm pretty sure
the desktop install sizes wont shrink.

Ubuntu is taking steps to ensure that their desktop still fits in
a single CD (that's the reason why the changelogs are shrinked in the
ubuntu packages now, some images are recompressed, etc.).

So there are possibilities, and we can tweak the tasks and the
dependencies in some cases.

But it's probably too late for squeeze and like most tasks touching lots
of packages, it will be difficult to find someone leading such a project.

Cheers,

Bug#530024: 0.8.1-4 on squeeze

2010-11-19 Thread Michele Petrazzo

Hello,
I just had a fresh install into a new pc with squeeze and, after about 2
hours that I'm fighting with network-manger and wired ethernet. I see
into the bug 530024 that you have uploaded the new packages only on sid,
but not for squeeze. Will in near future be inside stable release?
This can be a *big* problem for all the users if not, since they cannot
manage wired.

P.s. I dont know if you are the right person for ask, however: there is
the possibility to automatically install network-manager-kde (and
autostart knetworkmanager) when the users install knetwork? Some newbie
can loss theyself if had to look for a program that can manage a
network Or include, inside network-connection - system settings -
control panel, a button for newbiew for automatically install (if
need) and start knetworkmanager.

Thanks,
Michele from Italy

Bug#603937: dokuwiki: PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information in Apache error log

2010-11-19 Thread Francesco Potortì
Did you enable gzip_output by yourself? It is supposed to be off by
default…

I can't remember, maybe I enabled it myself.

I shall just link this bug report to the upstream one, as it requires
some upstream fix. It could help that you explain there that you are
also affected.

THe problem is, I for some reason I cannot wite anything there...

I go to http://bugs.splitbrain.org/index.php?do=detailstask_id=1919,
I press login, I get a wide strip on the bottom of window with a
grinning face saying Login successful, but nothing else changes, and I
see no way to add my comments. Does it work for you?

Bug#604016: Please support 3w-sas controllers

Well, make a poll on debian-devel, I guess you'll get some strong
 rejection.

Well, they can reject whatever they like. Unless they are volunteering
to co-maintain the relevant packages and ensure they work with legacy
locales, this is irrelevant.

Actually, a lot of Debian tools are still unable to handle
 UTF-8 stuff.

They should be ditched, since it means they don’t work on a correctly
configured system.

an idea to have the links in one part pointing to mitre and in a

So on this machine I need to use i915.modeset=0 on the boot line. Worked.
Thanks everybody.
Now I can finally read ALL the boot messages sitting on the screen. Yes,
even the ones that don't end up in any /var/log file, nor will any ^S/^Q catch.
Note of course we must reboot without such a parameter if we intend to
use X-windows. Therefore the above is useful mainly when one thinks he
missed a new warning flashing by and wants to read it before it
disappears along with what was supposed to end up in a log file but did
not due to having been zapped upon the default modeset action. I'll CC
the kernel list about that. They probably think all messages are getting
logged. Better yet, I won't CC them, as it probably isn't a kernel
problem. Somebody will have to CC the right party for me. Thanks.

Bug#603952: about the ICQ failure

2010-11-19 Thread Josip Rodin
Version: 2.7.3-1+squeeze1

Hi,

I had some other .aol.com server set up which also died a couple of days
ago, and after I changed it to login.icq.com, it worked, but not with SSL.

I also tried the clientLogin option, but that's also still broken (has been
for months now).

Upstream web site (pidgin.im) front page says 2.7.5 fixes issues, and the
changelog says:

* New ICQ accounts default to proper ICQ servers. Old accounts using one of
the old default servers will be silently migrated to use the proper
  servers.
* ICQ accounts using clientLogin now use the correct ICQ servers. This is
separate from the server settings mentioned above.

Sadly no ticket references... I found:
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/12911
where they closed it as fixed by saying turn off SSL.

So, no more security? :(

Bug#603966: aribas: request to unblock

The version of aribas in squeeze does not depend on emacsen-common,

Now this might be due to some overly eager check of dpkg. I didn't try to
investigate this; the change in aribas_1.64-4 fixes this for the squeeze
release without having to touch dpkg. As soon as we do not have to care
anymore for that particular upgrade path we can turn the Pre-Depends back
 to Depends.

If the old prerm fails, dpkg should call new-prerm failed-upgrade.
Can't the error be handled there?

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#454498: status update?

2010-11-19 Thread Costin Gusa
Hello,
It's almost a year since last message on this list, squeeze is frozen,
cyrus stable is already 2.4.4.

We've been hoping this to make it into etch, lenny and squeeze.

Sadly, this makes me wonder not if we will see cyrus-2.3 in
testing/experimental, but if we EVER will have a modern cyrus back in
Debian.

Many thanks to Duncan for providing their svn repo which I've based my
last three setups on.

Bug#604025: sitesummary-upload: Fail when $http_proxy exist and is empty

2010-11-19 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Package: sitesummary-client
Version: 0.0.66
Severity: serious
Tags: patch pending

I ran into this when I installed a minimal Debian Edu/squeeze profile
on a new virtual machine. The host did not get any proxy setting, and
ended up with http_proxy= in /etc/environment. This caused
sitesummary-client to fail.

The problem can be reproduced like this:
  r...@gnashbuild0:~# env|grep http
  r...@gnashbuild0:~# echo | http_proxy= sitesummary-upload
  unrecognized http_proxy at /usr/sbin/sitesummary-upload line 36.
  r...@gnashbuild0:~# echo | sitesummary-upload
cannot connect to localhost:80 at /usr/sbin/sitesummary-upload line 60.
  r...@gnashbuild0:~#

Note how it fails with unrecognized http_proxy when no value is set,
while it do not when the variable is unset.

I've commited this fix to svn, and believe it is important to get it
included in Squeeze. Not quite sure if it should be considered
release critical for Debian or not, as it only will affect those using
Debian Edu without a proxy on the local network, but I believe it is
release critical for Debian Edu. Setting severity serious for now.

It is rather surprising that setting

 ServerName expected_server_name

is not enough, you _also_ have to additionally set

Bug#604028: signing-party: Missing dependency ) for siggraph

2010-11-19 Thread debbug-signing-party . 6 . iridos

Package: signing-party
Version: 1.1.3-1
Severity: normal

Can't locate GD.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.1
/usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10
/usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/bin/springgraph line
187.

GD.pm is in
libgd-gd2-noxpm-perl: /usr/lib/perl5/GD.pm

libgd-gd2-perl: /usr/lib/perl5/GD.pm
... it is also found in a couple of other packages, which I think are
all unrelated here:

libgd-securityimage-perl: /usr/share/perl5/GD/SecurityImage/GD.pm
libpdf-api2-perl: /usr/share/perl5/PDF/API2/Resource/XObject/Image/GD.pm
libtemplate-plugin-gd-perl: /usr/share/perl5/Template/Plugin/GD.pm
pdl: /usr/lib/perl5/PDL/IO/GD.pm
wml: /usr/lib/wml/perl/lib/i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi/WML/GD.pm

As a sidenote (I can fill a separate wishlist bug on this if you like) - I
think it would be better to have springgraph in a separate springgraph
package, on which signing-party depends.

The man-page of apt-rdepends explicitely mentions springgraph:
   -d, --dotty
dotty takes a list of packages on the command line and gener-
ates output suitable for use by springgraph.
...and there is no reason why one would want to install signing-party for
apt-rdepends.

Cheers,
Karsten

Bug#591615: same issue found in fedora 14

2010-11-19 Thread Praveen A
Same issue is discussed in Red Hat bugzilla at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654200

We have found this regression is caused by this change
http://bugs.icu-project.org/trac/changeset/26090/icu/trunk/source/layout/IndicReordering.cpp

We have tested Open Office with this change reverted and everything is
working fine. I think this is an important enough bug to be fixed in
squeeze because Open Office is so widely used.

Please revert the above change.

Thanks

Bug#604032: gcalctool: incorrect results of tanh

2010-11-19 Thread Jaromír Karmazín
Package: gcalctool
Version: 5.30.2-1
Severity: normal

gcalctool provides wrong results for the hyperbolic tangent function (tanh).
Given the following input:
  tanh 0,1
the following is displayed:
  0,549833997
while the correct answer should be:
  0,099667995
(as calculated on a TI-30Xa calculator and confirmed by other engines).
Oddly, the inverse hyperbolic tangent of 0,099667995 yields 0,1 as expected,
while the same for 0,549833997 yields 0,618143348.
Note that the comma ',' serves as the decimal point in my locale and causes
no problems otherwise.

I hope they can be unblocked and their urgency pushed by the release team if
 they think it's appropriate.

What about ia32-libs-gtk, will there also be another update for that?

 Cheers,

Petty sure all of them will need more updates as new libs are unblocked
into squeeze. But there was nothing urgent to fix for ia32-libs-gtk. The
current one can go in now and then a later unblock request will just
deal with updated libs and have no source changes.

Bug#604033: Bug report: Installing Squeeze on a Intel Matrix BIOS RAID1 volume

2010-11-19 Thread Andreas Meile

Package: installation-reports

Boot method: Used mini-iso burnt on CD-RW
Image version:
http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/debian/dists/squeeze/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/mini.iso

Date: 2010-11-19T16:20

Machine: HP Pavillion m9060.ch
Partitions: see debug logs

Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot: [O]
Detect network card:[O]
Configure network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [E]
Install base system:[ ]
Clock/timezone setup: [ ]
User/password setup:[ ]
Install tasks: [ ]
Install boot loader:[ ]
Overall install:[ ]

Comments/Problems:

This motherboard supports Intel Matrix BIOS RAID so I inserted two HDD's,
activated RAID in the BIOS SATA settings, then created a logical volume
with Ctrl+I (Intel's built-in BIOS RAID manager). Then I created several
Linux ext3 partitions using Partition Magic 8.0 for /, /usr, /home and so
on.

Problem: The RAID Volume with partitions is detected correctly as /dev/md126
together with all /dev/md126px partitions but as read-only (so Debian's
partition manager part can't format the swap area. = Continuation of
installation is not possible.

Also a problem: The physical volumes behind appear, too. = The installer
marks for example formating the swap partition on three locations
(/dev/sde8, /dev/sdf8 and /dev/md126p8 in this example). These shouldn't be
offered for partitioning because they are part of the RAID volume

The full debug logs details are saved at

Package: seabios

Hi!

(almost sure that this problem belongs to seabios)

Try to run this ISO image [1] inside virt-manager I get on the console:

Starting SeaBIOS (version 0.5.1-20101004_085230-barber)

Booting from CD-Rom...

BIOS error!
=

[1]
http://sourceforge.net/projects/monaos/files/mona-0.3.0/mona-0.3.0-iso-bootable.zip

And then it just stays locked.

One strange thing: I have 0.6.0+git20100710-2 installed but it says that
it's version 0.5.1 when booting the virtual machine?

However, it works perfectly when using the same ISO with
qemyu -cdrom mona.iso.

What else can I do to help with this, please?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#604035: dnsmasq: Documentation for case of static connection to the 'net and no resolvconf.

2010-11-19 Thread PETER EASTHOPE
Subject: dnsmasq: Documentation for case of static connection to the 'net and
no resolvconf.
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.55-2
Severity: minor
Tags: upstream patch

*** Please type your report below this line ***
/usr/share/doc/dnsmasq-base/README.Debian mentions these cases.
(4) In the absence of resolvconf, if you are using dhcpcd ...
(5) In the absence of resolvconf, if you are using pppd ...

Another important case is this.
(5.5) In the absence of resolvconf, if you have a static connection to the
Internet
you may have nameserver addresses in /etc/network/interfaces. dnsmasq does
not acquire these addresses. Namerserver addresses should be specified on the
command line with the --server option or in /etc/dnsmasq.conf with the server
option.

A similar circumstance must prevail in systems other than Debian. Seems that
the
FAQs relating to nameservers can be incorporated into man dnsmasq.

Bug#600755: [Pkg-shadow-devel] Bug#600755: Autologin fails with login from shadow 4.1.3.1

Could you check if there are some information logged in /var/log/syslog or
 /var/log/auth.log.

The problem has been solved on the Gentoo bug tracker:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324419

It was a configuration issue. Including the console device
for the CONSOLE option in login.defs causes the login program
to fail:

CONSOLE console:tty1:tty2:tty3:tty4

But shouldn't this still be considered a bug? The previous
versions of login did not have trouble when reading the
same login.defs configuration file.

Does the scan look distorted within gscan2pdf, or only in the resulting PDF?

Bug#34182: Shipping compiled ncurses examples

2010-11-19 Thread Sven Joachim

We're already passing --disable-rpath to configure, and adding
--disable-rpath-hack does not help either. :-(

Here's my analysis why this is so: irrespective of these options,
aclocal.m4 computes LD_RPATH_OPT=-Wl,-rpath, and later
LOCAL_LDFLAGS=${LD_RPATH_OPT}\$(LOCAL_LIBDIR). This is not a problem
for the regular programs since progs/Makefile.in does not use
LOCAL_LDFLAGS, but test/Makefile.in adds it to LDFLAGS, so we lose.

In test/configure there is no option at all to disable RPATH.
 Any ideas?

I can add an option. test/configure was originally a minimal script,
without the various features needed in ./configure, but I can see it'll
 grow a little more.

Actually rpath is not a problem when running test/configure, but I could
not get it to use the just compiled-but-not-yet-installed ncurses
library. Because it is built out of tree, the libs are not adjacent to
the headers which is expected by the --with-curses-dir configure
option.

It would be good if this could be made to work, because the simplistic
solution of just copying everything from obj/test has the drawback that
cruft files like Makefile creep into the binary package. And we can
only run make install in the test directory if we had run
test/configure before, see the recent discussion on bug-ncurses.

Cheers,
   Sven

I suspect the 502 error was cached. If you have managed the upgrade with
apt-get all the evidence will be lost. Could you check the contents of

 /var/cache/apt-cacher/headers/kdebase-workspace-data*.deb
