Bug#628991: `iso-scan` fails with `main-menu[343]: WARNING **: Configuring 'iso-scan' failed with error code 1`
reassign 628991 iso-scan thanks I tried again with `hd-media` to get more debugging information. I located Yes, my suggestion to use netboot was silly as in such case, iso-scan is not used ./var/lib/dpkg/info/iso-scan.postinst and added `set -x` to the beginning. Yes, you did the right thing Please find the log attached. Unfortunately due to the graphical user interface it is not very elaborate. But other logs you sent, plus the informaiton that removing other files helped, will be very helpful. Reassigning this bug to iso-scan, where it clearly belongs. It is quite clear that the problem is due to changes introduced recently that are meant to allow choosing ISO images when more than one is present on the installation medium. Bug#625357: jigit: ftbfs with gcc-4.6 -Werror
tags 625357 - moreinfo retitle 62537 gcc -Wunused-but-set-variable warning is confusing # bad error message severity 625357 minor quit Steve McIntyre wrote: error = add_md5_entry(UNKNOWN, md5, file_name); return 0; } To explain a bit more: the warning reported by gcc (unhelpfully) points at the declaration/initialisation of error, which led me to (incorrectly) think that it was complaining about set-but-unused for the initialisation. With minor tweaks, I can see that it's complaining about the return value from add_md5_entry() being ignored but doesn't *say* that. :-( Ah, I see and I think I agree. The current message test.c:3:6: warning: variable ‘x’ set but not used [-Wunused-but-set-variable] places the emphasis on the assignment (which is not worth warning about), when the warning is instead supposed to be about the variable (which is never used). Something like test.c:3:6: warning: unused variable ‘x’ [-Wunused-but-set-variable] would be much clearer. Will think more and then work on a patch. Thanks for your patient explanations. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#624387: [bug #33198] Incorrect bracket expression when parsing in ru_RU.KOI8-R (Russian locale)

(b=b2), 1 : 0)) Can you explain again the reason for testing b2 == EOF? It seems wrong, and without it you can just make if (MB_CUR_MAX == 1 || b2 == b) setbit ((unsigned char) b, c); Hi Paolo, Your test would disable DFA-based matching for some bytes in a locale like ru_RU.KOI8-R, because a pattern like [\360] leads to wint_t b having the value 1055 (0x041F), and that is obviously too large to be used as the first argument to setbit. However, converting that B back to a single-byte value, B2, gives us back \360, which is ok to use there. Hence the (b=b2) part of that admittedly ugly expression. The b2 == EOF part is required for the somewhat similar bug I fixed a month ago: fix a bug whereby echo c|grep '[c]' would fail for any c in 0x80..0xff 8da41c930e03a8635cbd8c89e3e591374c232c89 The corresponding test demonstrates the need: tests: exercise bug with 0x80..0xff in [...] d98338ebf842ec9b69631837eee50ebdcd543505 Thanks for the feedback. If you see a better way, I'm sure you'll let me know. BTW, seeing your cast, I now think it'd be prudent to guard that setbit use: #if MBS_SUPPORT /* Below, note how when b2 != b and we have a uni-byte locale (MB_CUR_MAX == 1), we set b = b2. I.e., in a uni-byte locale, we can safely call setbit with a non-EOF value returned by wctob. */ int b2 = wctob (b); if (b2 == EOF || b2 == b || (MB_CUR_MAX == 1 ? Bug#431326: Info received (Bug still exists in squeeze)
Summary for Fujitsu Lifebook S6010: Squeeze intel xorg driver completely freezes the machine, the screen goes unhealthy white, nothing works. Lenny intel driver cannot find an LVDS panel it can recognise and aborts, machine works, x does not. Neither squeeze nor lenny vesa driver works (and I need Xv on this machine anyway so this is not an option). Last i810 before xorg moved from cvs to git builds cleanly on lenny (with the message that says move to git commented out in configure), but throws a segfault on initialisation. I am going to try to fish out a sufficiently old i810 driver from the freedesktop git or if that fails start walking back the i810 tree in the old freedesktop CVS until I hit a release that works. -- Understanding is a three-edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth. --Kosh Naranek A. Bug#593784: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: fails to detect monitor resolution
Hi, | | Anyway, the problem seems to be that your monitor does not | | supply EDID data, in which case X will choose 1024x768 as a | | presumably safe fallback resolution. See also #588927. | | Thank you for the info. But, reading that thread, I couldn't tell | what's the solution is. | | Well, so far we have not found a solution. :-( | | Does this mean that nouveau will never work | with those monitors? Or are there solutions to this problem? such | as writing something in /etc/X11/xorg.conf for nouveau ? | | You definitely need a Monitor section in your xorg.conf, | but for the submitter of #588927 even this did not work. My situation has become worse. After leaving the machine for more than four months because I stayed abroad, I came back and dist-upgraded it (without thinking much). Then, I lost the nv driver! It's no longer available in the Debian testing repository. That means, I'm left with nouveau, which cannot use the correct resolution of my monitor. The correct resolution is 1280x1024 but nouveau chooses 1024x768. So, I tried to tell it to use the correct resolution. I copied the previous /etc/X11/xorg.conf which worked with nv and modified it to the contents quoted below. I have just deleted the Files section, which had been empty, the InputDevice section, and the ServerLayout section, and I've just replaced nv with nouveau. The machine boots up correctly, except for the screen resolution. I'm desperate. What other drivers work with nVidia cards? If there are no objections, I'll reassign this bug to the FTP team on the weekend. Hm, in #625230 (libfile-path-perl) we had a similar discussion, and the conclusion there was to leave the package in unstable and the RC bug open, until a new upstream release appears. Yes, I did see that one a few hours later. ExtUtils::Install has the additional fun of having patches applied in the perl package and not in libextutils-install-perl (#624508). However we proceed, I'd suggest to do the same for both packages. And I still slightly prefer to keep them, unless we know that there won't be any new releases. We can keep libfile-path-perl and drop it if nothing changes until wheezy, but I would still like to either a, remove libextutils-install-perl or b, not have patches applied to it in both perl and the extra package (as we will forget to sync patches at some later point anyway). Given the package did not have a release on CPAN for almost two years, I would go with (a). Bug#629158: mplayer: cdda playback pauses every 15 seconds due to buffering
On Sat, Jun 04, 2011 at 11:43:56AM +0800, Michael Deegan wrote: Playback of CDs is currently unusable as mplayer reads 15 seconds of audio at a time, which seems to be long enough for the disk to spin down by the time it wants to read the next chunk. This results in a 5 second pause every 15 seconds during playback. Your analysis is incomplete, MPlayer does request chunks of about 176 kB about once per second. But then libcdparanoia comes with its absolutely stupid caching strategy and ends up grouping it into huge bunches of requests once every 15 seconds. Not sure which to recommend, but possible solutions are: 1) linking against libcdio which does not have the issue 2) fixing libcdparanoia to be behave better 3) using a large -cache to compensate for it 4) limit libcdparanoia's caching so it can't break things quite as badly I think I'd recommend you to go with 3) as a workaround and Debian to go with 1) (just using --disable-cdparanoia should pick up libcdio if libcdio-paranoia-dev is installed) and I've implemented 4) in MPlayer SVN (r33557, only tested against my CD drive, might not work as well with others). Disadvantage with 4) is that it probably decreases ripping performance, but I don't think many use MPlayer for that. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Please show your Xorg.0.log and the output of xrandr -q. You may have to set up custom modelines in xorg.conf, see http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12 for more information. I'm desperate. What other drivers work with nVidia cards? The fbdev driver will work with the nouveaufb kernel framebuffer. Boot with video=1280x1024 to force the correct resolution for your monitor. I can log a (minor) bug for this one if you want. Against lintian I guess? Please do, I have been meaning to fix that, but a bug is always a good reminder. The real problem is usually class-paths like lib/$file.jar or usr/share/java/$file.jar which does not work as intended when the jar file is installed in /usr/share/java. That being said, this check needs to be refined (e.g. jars in private packages might have a lib/ dir with symlinks to the actual files, which would work correctly). Bug#628454: Cambridge Silicon Radio - HCI Timeout following bluez upgrade

As I upgraded bluez it stopped working with 2.6.39-1. There must be something tickling the bug between versions. Maybe the newer version of bluez works with 2.6.38.2, but not 2.6.39-1, or maybe it works on an AMD64 based computer (as Nobuhiro reported), but not on an IA32 machine. Bug#629190: pu: package samba/2:3.5.6~dfsg-3squeeze4
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu The attached two patches, proposed for s-p-u help fixing two bugs which I consider worth for stable: * Document the newly introduced map untrusted to domain parameter and its default value that can lead to disruptive behavioral changes when upgrading from pre-3.5 versions. Closes: #623190 * Fix tdb2.so undefined symbol: dyn_get_STATEDIR by fixing a typo in fhs-filespath.patch. Closes: #629183, LP: #789097 The former would indeed have been better in the first release in squeeze but the suggestion came after the release. So let's at least warn those people who haven't upgraded yet. The latter was originally reported in Launchpad, then we (Debian maintainers) were pointed at the problem. The fix is really trivial but mandatory for using TDB2 as storage backend for samba data files. Bug#629193: lintian: Unclear difference between source and binary for overrides
Package: lintian Version: 2.5.0 Severity: normal Hello, my description will sound like a question (and is also one) but I think it should be better explained in the documentation file:///usr/share/doc/lintian/lintian.html/section-2.4.html The question is how to make the difference between a binary and a source issue. For example, I get always the same result with the 3 following calls (knowing that source and binary have the same package name): $ lintian freeplane_1.1.3-1_i386.changes W: freeplane: missing-classpath libcommons-lang-java, libjgoodies-forms-java, libbatik-java, libxerces2-java, libxml-commons-external-java, libjaxp1.3-java, libjlatexmath-java, libknopflerfish-osgi-framework-java, libjortho-freeplane-java $ lintian -b freeplane_1.1.3-1_i386.changes W: freeplane: missing-classpath libcommons-lang-java, libjgoodies-forms-java, libbatik-java, libxerces2-java, libxml-commons-external-java, libjaxp1.3-java, libjlatexmath-java, libknopflerfish-osgi-framework-java, libjortho-freeplane-java $ lintian -s freeplane_1.1.3-1_i386.changes W: freeplane: missing-classpath libcommons-lang-java, libjgoodies-forms-java, libbatik-java, libxerces2-java, libxml-commons-external-java, libjaxp1.3-java, libjlatexmath-java, libknopflerfish-osgi-framework-java, libjortho-freeplane-java So, how do I know what I have for an issue type? and if the issue is considered to impact binary _and_ source, should I override both? OK, I ran lintian in debug mode, so I guess that it's a binary issue, but I think my questions remain valid, AND why does then '-s' give a result? Final question: why not output binary|source information in the same format as for the override file? That would make things a lot easier... Bug#628564: debhelper: dh_installmenu should no longer add the postinst/postrm snippet for registering menu entries
On Sat, 04 Jun 2011, Bill Allombert wrote: But Bill, you have not replied to my proposal where menu would consider packages already configured once as good enough to keep the menu entry. Menu entries can be executable. In that case they are executed by update-menus and the output is interpreted as a menu files. Menu must ensure that they are only executed when the package is configured. Menu must ensure that they are successfully executed once. It doesn't matter that the package is configured or not. In this case, the package has already been configured once. A new version has been unpacked doesn't mean it's not working. It's highly unlikely that a new dependency has been introduced due to the executable menu entries. And even it this execution fails, you can still keep the former entry or force a supplementary run in the postinst for the subset of packages that use executables as menu entries. Much like Pre-Depends are satisfied when a good version was already configured once (even if another one got unpacked in the mean time), you do not need more than this IMO. Bug#629040: remove backdoor
retitle 629040 remove backdoor thanks Hi, during dinner yesterday we discussed this backdoor for several reasons: - it doesnt work out of the box (it cannot) - it's not documented how to use it - having installed something which is called backdoor gives a bad impression (even if the purpose is good). - anybody who is able to configure this, can setup such a backdoor herself by just executing ssh -R... We'll probably do the remove for squeeze even. cheers, Holger -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Are you talking about file selection dialog, after, for example, clicking 'add songs to a playlist' button? For me it opens standard Qt/KDE multiple file selection dialog where I see this behavior all the time for all programs which use it and I think it's expected. Bug#613167: /etc/hosts not a problem on Debian Edu diskless workstations
When setting up a test installation of Debian Edu squeeze at end of April there definitely had to be done some fixes still, but none of them addressed /etc/hostname /etc/hosts For kerberized NFSv4 (on diskless workstations) you have to (a) tweak /etc/default/nfs-common and add the line RPCGSSDOPTS=-n (b) make sure that the diskless workstations is set up as a Kerberos client, including the [libdefaults] allow_weak_crypto = true line... I don't use jack so I cannot listen to any music. I get this dialog after clicking on Setting-Configure Amarok, Playback-Configure Phonon, then Device Preferences. It is some kind of misconguration. Bug#629193: lintian: Unclear difference between source and binary for overrides
On 2011-06-04 14:39, Eric Lavarde wrote: Package: lintian Version: 2.5.0 Severity: normal Hello, Hey, my description will sound like a question (and is also one) but I think it should be better explained in the documentation file:///usr/share/doc/lintian/lintian.html/section-2.4.html The question is how to make the difference between a binary and a source issue. For example, I get always the same result with the 3 following calls (knowing that source and binary have the same package name): You are not the first to run into this issue; we had a similar bug about this recently. To answer your immediate question; the tag in question is a binary-only (.deb) check only and should be overridden in the binary package freeplane. I do not know the exact reason for it (but I do have my guesses), but Lintian does not emit the type when it is a binary package. $ lintian freeplane_1.1.3-1_i386.changes W: freeplane: missing-classpath libcommons-lang-java, libjgoodies-forms-java, libbatik-java, libxerces2-java, libxml-commons-external-java, libjaxp1.3-java, libjlatexmath-java, libknopflerfish-osgi-framework-java, libjortho-freeplane-java $ lintian -b freeplane_1.1.3-1_i386.changes W: freeplane: missing-classpath libcommons-lang-java, libjgoodies-forms-java, libbatik-java, libxerces2-java, libxml-commons-external-java, libjaxp1.3-java, libjlatexmath-java, libknopflerfish-osgi-framework-java, libjortho-freeplane-java $ lintian -s freeplane_1.1.3-1_i386.changes W: freeplane: missing-classpath libcommons-lang-java, libjgoodies-forms-java, libbatik-java, libxerces2-java, libxml-commons-external-java, libjaxp1.3-java, libjlatexmath-java, libknopflerfish-osgi-framework-java, libjortho-freeplane-java So, how do I know what I have for an issue type? and if the issue is considered to impact binary _and_ source, should I override both? OK, I ran lintian in debug mode, so I guess that it's a binary issue, but I think my questions remain valid, AND why does then '-s' give a result? I think the manpage might be outdated on this, but -s and -b only seems to be useful for interactions with a (static) lab or the with the special packages files. That being said - I believe a --verbose would be enough to give you something like: N: Processing binary package freeplane (version 1.1.1-1) ... Final question: why not output binary|source information in the same format as for the override file? That would make things a lot easier... Thanks, Eric [...] Technically the override file does not require you to actually write the package name nor package type. A simple tag is enough; however, I personally would not mind if we always printed the type of the package. Even if there some (legacy?) reason why we cannot do that, I believe we can still output this information along with a tag description (outputted by lintian -i or lintian-info). I suspect most people will at least look up the tag description before deciding to override it (and as an added bonus, they will know which check to file a bug against). But in the end, none of the above is an excuse for not updating the manual. ~Niels 0001-Emit-check-name-and-type-with-lintian-i-or-lintian-i.patch Description: application/wine-extension-patch
