Bug#638938: linux-tools-3.0.0: perf report segfaults when using binary version; compiling from source works
Package: linux-tools-3.0.0 Version: 3.0.0-1 Severity: normal I captured a few perf traces on a live system (using perf record --event cpu-clock --freq 1000 -a --output=mylog.perf). When I try to run a report on those perf logs, it segfaults. I can run it under gdb and get a stacktrace (below). If I install the linux-source package, expand it, and do a make in tools/perf, then that version of perf works (no segfault). The version I built does reference different shared libraries (according to ldd). Most notably, it include libbfd-2.21.52-system.20110606.so. Package: debhelper Version: 8.9.4 Followup-For: Bug #597105 Hi, Maybe it is just enough to iterate over the output of py3versions too, if dh is called --with python3? I'd say existence of python3-* binary package and python3-all or python3-all-dev in build dependencies is enough to start iterating over `py3versions -rv` output (with pythonX.Y setup.py build/install ...) Package: virtualbox-guest-dkms Version: 4.1.0-dfsg-2 Hello, I am using debian testing as guest in a virtualbox virtual machine, hosted on a windows 7 host (virtualbox version 4.1.2). I am using a higher resolution for the consoles, passing the argument GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1024x768, in /etc/default/grub. The issue I have is that, at the point where the kernel module vboxvideo is loaded (as a component of the virtualbox X11 driver), the consoles are blanked and no longer display messages. this can be checked by Ctrl+Fn (1..6). Boot completes normally and if I switch to tty1 for extample, I can blindly log in and execute commands. The issue is always reproducible. Further information: - If I do NOT set a higher resolution (remove the GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX argument), everything is normal. - If I use the iso-provided guest additions (4.1.2), I have the same issue. - This did not happen with the previous guest additions version (4.0.10) and returning to this version solves the issue. I am using Debian GNU/Linux Wheezy, kernel 3.0.0-1 and libc6 2.13-16.

Bug#638746: firmware-b43legacy-installer: installation fails on system with more than one 14e4 card
Hi Thomas, the patch is currently not applicable to the latest b43-fwcutter version (0.14-9) However, the modification can be easily porting to the latest version but unfortunately I can't test on my laptop because I haven't your card type. I'm trying on my laptop with two 14e4: devices: :~# pci=`lspci -n | grep -o 14e4:[1234567890abcdef]\+` :~# echo $pci 14e4:1692 14e4:4357 If I try to execute the postinst script manually, I get: $ ./firmware-b43legacy-installer.postinst No supported card found. Use b43 firmware. This is just for the b43legacy driver. Aborting. In my case, result as expected (because both cards are not supported by b43-legacy driver) Attached a modified version of firmware-b43legacy-installer.postinst script. Bug#638712: Re: Bug#638712: binNMUs for packages exporting (rest|save)(32|64\|)(fpr|gpr) symbols

The reason for that was that they export symbols that match the expression .*(rest|save)(32|64\|)(fpr|gpr).* and therefore would force the dynamic linker to make wrong decisions and crash before the actual program was started. This was fixed a long time ago in the gcc libraries http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2008-10/msg00264.html , but some packages weren't recompiled since that time. I'm working on a list too, will try to finish it later today so we can compare... So I restricted the search to shared libs under /usr/lib, and ended up with: [...] Why do you think that only libraries are the problem? I thought also executables can export symbols which will be used by the dynamic linker to resolve unresolved symbols. So loading a library which needs that symbols would also cause a crash... (please correct me when I am wrong). The first thing I noticed: I forgot to remove duplicated entries from my list (sry for that... sort|uniq would have been to easy) and that I include the \+b[0-9]* stuff (sed 's/+b[0-9]$//' would be useful too). It looks like your list is a subset of mine. So it is at least a good start... but I am irritated that you don't have things like libopensync-plugin- gnokii_0.22-1 (ok, it is not buildable right now... but it is still a problematic library/plugin) or libbz2-ruby_0.2.2-2 difference.gz Description: GNU Zip compressed data

From the bug log, it looks like this still needs resolving in unstable as well? If so then we'd really prefer that the issue be resolved there first and we can then look at a stable update if no related issues appear. Indeed. I was hoping to upload 1.3.x to unstable, where this code is now totally different, but since we're going to wait on that for a bit for transitions, I'll upload the fix to unstable first. That was a while ago now, and the fix has made it to testing. Please feel free to go ahead with the upload to stable. Ping. Kind regards Philipp Kern signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#637284: Can't install wheezy on a 2011 iMac
Hi Jonathan, Mike Hore wrote: I don't know that I want to try any more -- I seem to be getting nowhere. I think it might need someone who really understands the Debian boot process to get their hands on a new iMac and sort this whole thing out. There are plenty of them around by now. I've got a lot of other things on my plate and this isn't a high priority for me. Might also be worth asking on debian-u...@lists.debian.org if anyone has tried installing on a 2011 iMac. I did earlier on -- I got no replies for over a week even though I followed up my own posts several times. I concluded nobody else had even tried at that stage. I might give it a month and then try again. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for testing. As you saw with e.g. the co bug, we're not at a stage in the release cycle when the installer is completely polished yet. So at the moment, using the squeeze installer and then upgrading is more likely to be reliable. That was the first thing I tried a while ago -- then somebody suggested I try the latest installer which is what I did. If you do get a working installation, I would still be very interested in tracking down the radeon modesetting trouble (e.g., by taking a snapshot of the screen with artifacts and recovering any log entries that appear before then). I suspect the cause is similar to Bug#637943 (modesetting not working correctly without firmware-linux-nonfree installed). Hmmm - interesting. I might check Ubuntu forums too. But I'm not in a particular hurry -- I've just installed MacOSX 10.7 (Lion) and I've got heaps of other things to keep busy with :-) Cheers, Mike. --- Mike Horemike_h...@aapt.net.au --- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#637284: Can't install wheezy on a 2011 iMac
Hi again Jonathan, Hmmm - interesting. I might check Ubuntu forums too. The same problem has shown up there too: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1578342 Some fixes have been posted on that thread. I can't really take the time to apply them all myself, but it probably suggests a way forward. My suggestion would be for this bug to stand until a fix has been rolled into a new installer, so that we can do a straightforward installation on these machines. Hopefully this can be done. Bug#584914: NIS groups
Dear Debian Fellows ! My investigations suggest that those 3 bugs are related: #599399 #584914 #616171. I have here a Squeeze 64 host that shows the same problem explained by Arto (#599399). I updated it to the latest updates / proposed updates yesterday (22-08-2011). Package versions are: nis 3.17-31 libpam0g 1.1.1-6.1 libpam-modules 1.1.1-6.1 nscd 2.11.2-10 libc6 2.11.2-10 (re-)Description of the problem: a/ login in with a local account which is declared locally in a NIS group (/etc/group + syntax) - with 'group: compat' or 'group: compat nis' in nsswitch.conf, this does NOT work, group is absent - with 'group: files nis' or 'group: nis files', this DOES work, group is present b/ login in with a NIS account, which belongs to 4 NIS groups and 2 local groups and which primary group is a NIS group - whatever recipe put in nsswitch.conf, this NIS account belongs to its 2 local groups and only its NIS primary group : zero secondary NIS group I hope this can help track solve this very serious issue. Bug#638965: xserver-xorg-core: add override directory that is prepended to the module search path
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.7.7-13 Severity: wishlist Hi, as this was discussed on the mailing list before, see e.g. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2011/08/msg00157.html [2] http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2011/08/msg00364.html there is need for an override directory that is prepended to the module search path. In [1] I describe my analysis of the current search path system and in [2] Julien says I'd prefer an explicit override directory over abusing 'linux'. An override directory could be used so that vendor implementations of a module (e.g. libglx.so) can be installed installed in the override directory and will be found before the native xorg module without having to use dpkg-divert on the original module. Such a solution would simplify using update-alternatives to enable/disable the vendor implementation without installing/removing packages. For the time being, /usr/lib/xorg/modules/linux/ could be abused for that purpose. Andreas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#631100: Fwd: CharLS / DCMTK
-- Forwarded message -- From: Mario Ceresa Date: Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 8:47 AM Subject: Re: CharLS / DCMTK To: Mathieu Malaterre When I removed the bundled libcharl for dcmtk in fedora I changed 3 things: 1) Do not configure bundled libcharls project (patch dcmtk-3.6.0-0003-Removed-bundled-libcharl-reference-in-dcmjpls.patch) 2) Change 3rdparty.cmake to include system libcharls and create a Findlibcharls.cmake (patch dcmtk-3.6.0-0004-Use-system-charls.patch) 3) Fixed some inclusions which changed between the included version of dcmtk and the one present in fedora (patch dcmtk-3.6.0-0005-Fixed-includes-for-CharLS-1.0.patch) I attach you all the 3 files and the spec file. Bug#638817: gnome-settings-daemon crashes on startup, errors on libnotify
Followup-For: Bug #638817 Package: gnome-settings-daemon Version: 2.30.2-4 I am also experiencing this bug. I do not fully understand what the issue is, but I think that it is an issue with libnotify rather than gnome-settings-daemon. Bug#638968: ITP: libnetmd -- Libraries for accessing Sony NetMD MiniDisc Walkman
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: John Paul Adrian Glaubitz glaub...@physik.fu-berlin.de * Package name: libnetmd Version : 0.0.1 Upstream Author : The linux-minidisc project linux-minid...@lists.fu-berlin.de * URL : https://wiki.physik.fu-berlin.de/linux-minidisc/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: C Description : Libraries for accessing Sony NetMD MiniDisc Walkman libnetmd is a library providing access to so-called NetMD MiniDisc Walkman. NetMD is an extension to the classic MiniDisc system which allows to transfer audio tracks digitally to the recorder [1]. The transfer itself is encrypted while the audio data on the medium remains unencrypted to be compatible with existing MiniDisc recorders and players. Encryption is achieved through DES and 3DES using a secret root key and dynamically generated session keys. Luckily, it is not mandatory to use Sony's proprietary secret but also possible to use one's own generated keys. The current implementation uses a very geeky custom generated root key: 0x13371337133713371337133713371337. This key works and is at the same time unencumbered, thus there are no possible legal issues. The library has been around since around 2004, but it was not until recently that transfer capabilities were achieved, making the library now actually useful. By packaging the library for Debian, users will finally be able to use their MiniDisc hardware completely with free software. A related library support Sony HiMD Walkman is called libhimd and has its own ITP/RFP [2].
