Bug#641391: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#641391: icinga-idoutils SQL fails when constraints have already been removed
Sorry, must have gotten that wrong then. I think I had upgraded more recently than 1.4.2. I also had issues with the version update command not working, something wrong with my postgres install. It's possible that the upgrade failed on the last step the first time and the first step on subsequent runs... Wrapping it all in a transaction would prevent that but the IF EXISTS looks like a better fix, it does spray NOTICE warnings around though. Bug#640195: Remove paraview-dev
2011/9/12 Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer perezme...@gmail.com: On Dom 11 Sep 2011 06:00:39 Mathieu Malaterre escribió: [snip] Now ParaViewConfig.cmake should be installed by paraview-dev. To help the transition, all the packages that currently build-depend on paraview should be filled a normal bug, raised to important in ~3 or 4 weeks and then to serious ~3 or 4 weeks later. It is customary to user-tag the bugs so as to follow the transition. Great. We'll keep this bug open as serious to prevent transition to testing. Is that an acceptable solution or should I fill a ROM request and re-upload paraview to experimental ? After that is achieved, src:paraview can be uploaded with the dev package providing the header files and ParaViewConfig.cmake. As said above, paraview is already in unstable. I need a little more time to test vtkedge and other package that build paraview plugins. First of all, sorry for the late reply. Well, it seems you are in the middle of a not well handled transition. I have found that there are several .cmake files in paraview wich should be in paraview-dev. Removing the package from unstable will cause the packages that build-depend on it FTBFS. So I guess the best thing wich can be done is simply move the cmake files to -dev, try to build whichever package B-Ds on paraview/paraview- dev and report FTBFS if necessary. I'm CCing debian-science to let more experienced people give their opinion. Just FYI. *.cmake files have been moved to paraview-dev, if you take the latest from git. What is left to do is: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=debian-science/packages/paraview.git;a=blob;f=debian/TODO;h=9c6efbc305b86826c5bb93abb606e11fc6180316;hb=8dab8a9a0a7db7a0360caafb4ab88352e1b6edcb We will keep paraview 3.10-* in unstable until all issues are solved. The name VisAD is an acronym for Visualization for Algorithm Development. The system combines: . The use of pure Java for platform independence and to support data sharing and real-time collaboration among geographically distributed users. Support for distributed computing is integrated at the lowest levels of the system using Java RMI distributed objects. . A general mathematical data model that can be adapted to virtually any numerical data, that supports data sharing among different users, different data sources and different scientific disciplines, and that provides transparent access to data independent of storage format and location (i.e., memory, disk or remote). The data model has been adapted to netCDF, HDF-5, FITS, HDF-EOS, McIDAS, Vis5D, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, QuickTime, ASCII and many other file formats. . A general display model that supports interactive 3-D, data fusion, multiple data views, direct manipulation, collaboration, and virtual reality. The display model has been adapted to Java3D and Java2D and used in an ImmersaDesk virtual reality display. . Data analysis and computation integrated with visualization to support computational steering and other complex interaction modes. . Support for two distinct communities: developers who create domain- specific systems based on VisAD, and users of those domain-specific systems. VisAD is designed to support a wide variety of user interfaces, ranging from simple data browser applets to complex applications that allow groups of scientists to collaboratively develop data analysis algorithms. . Bug#632497: Fwd: Re: Your opinion on a bug report in Debian
---BeginMessage--- Dear Dimitrios, It seems that a problem a bit deeper. Formally, MathGL should use any HDF5 library (which is installed). But if non-serial version of HDF5 is installed then, as I and Dmitry thinks, the MathGL should be built by other compiler (i.e. like mpicc instead of g++ for MPI version). Unfortunately, we have not enough experience to write proper build-script for all these cases. So, right now only serial version is supported. However, we will be very appreciative if somebody write this part correctly and I will include it into the MathGL quickly. -- All the best, Alexey Balakin 2011/9/12 Dimitrios Eftaxiopoulos eftax...@otenet.gr: Hello Alexey, we have the following bug, regarding mathgl build in Debian linux: mathgl build depends on (amongst others) libhdf5-serial-dev | libhdf5-dev. However, if either libhdf5-lam-dev or libhdf5-mpi-dev or libhdf5-openpi-dev (all of which sastifies this build-dependency) is installed in the build environment, the package fails to build from source: | checking hdf5.h usability... no | checking hdf5.h presence... no | checking for hdf5.h... no | Please install hdf5 headers Indeed, mathgl builds in a Debian unstable system, only if libhdf5-serial-dev package is installed. It fails to build if either ibhdf5-lam-dev or libhdf5-mpi-dev or libhdf5-openpi-dev is installed ( the last three cannot be installed simultaneously with libhdf5-serial-dev curently in Debian). All four packages provide an hdf5.h file. My opinion is that mathgl does not work in parallel, thus it cannot build with any of the parallel related headers of the hdf5 source package. Hence the bug should be closed. Can I have your comment on this? Thanks Dimitris ---End Message---

Bug#641375: [debian-mysql] Bug#641375: Missing includes to build MySQL storage engine plugins
Excerpts from Xypron debian's message of Mon Sep 12 18:14:01 -0700 2011: Package: libmysqlclient-dev Version: 5.1.58-1 Severity: normal The package provides include files for projects based on MySQL. Unfortunately it lacks the includes which are needed to build storage engine plugins. Some of these includes are: #include thr_lock.h /* THR_LOCK */ #include handler.h/* handler */ #include table.h /* TABLE_SHARE */ These aren't intended to be accessed from outside the source tree in 5.1. Plugins that need these things must build in-tree. The full build directory to enable this is available in the 'mysql-source-5.1' binary package. Bug#641404: Authentication is only possible if process runs as root
Package: libnss-mysql-bg Version: 1.5-2 A user which is stored in a mysql database can only be authenticated if the authentication process runs under root. Therefore, the user can log in on the console (getty), network (sshd), Gnome (gdm3), because there processes run as root. But he cannot unlock his screensaver (gnome-screensaver) or a locked screen session (Ctrl-X in running screen), because these processes do not run as root. The reason is that libnss-mysql-bg is designed for systems where only root is allowed to read shadow information, and /sbin/unix_chkpwd is setuid root. Under Debian, the policy is different: shadow information can be read by processes running under the egid shadow, and /sbin/unix_chkpwd is setgid shadow, not setuid root. In libnss-mysql-bg, two changes are needed to match Debian's policy: 1. The file /etc/libnss-mysql-root.cnf must be installed with permissions 640 root:shadow (currently 600 root:root). 2. Within the libnss-mysql-bg implementation, the security check must be extended to check not only for euid=root, but also for egid=shadow. Bug#640874: leave: debian/rules is not a Makefile
Josip Rodin writes (Bug#640874: leave: debian/rules is not a Makefile): Since my reasoning here didn't seem to leave a particular positive dent with those tech-ctte members who have responded so far, I would just like to solicit Ian Jackson's input, given his role in defining and implementing the debian/rules calling convention originally. In other worse, if I can't convince the original author of a non-make-dependent API that the API isn't make-dependent, there is no recourse but to yield :) It's very tempting to close down this discussion by agreeing that we always intended debian/rules to only be allowed to be a makefile. But I'm afraid that I'm going to agree with Josip on this point: as far as I remember, the designers (of which I was one) did not originally intend this restriction. If I had intended it I would have written it into the original policy manual. That doesn't mean that in the current circumstances it isn't reasonable to make that requirement, of course. But I'm not convinced by the arguments made so far in favour of this requirement. It's true that having a standardised implementation language can make it easier for people unfamiliar with the package to work with it, and this is indeed something that we should care about. But I agree with Josip's point about the spirit vs. the letter: if we write into policy that debian/rules must be a makefile, Josip can comply with the policy by what amounts IMO to trickery. And it's not trickery that's simple to forbid, given that that trickery is exactly what dh(1) uses. Or to put it another way, we have two plausible options: 1. Weaken the rule that debian/rules must be a makefile, from a requirement to a recommendation. 2. Require that it be a makefile but permit #!/usr/bin/make -f %: debian/myscript $@ and also: %: dh $@ And one implausible one: 3. Require that it be a makefile and FORBID %: debian/myscript $@ but PERMIT %: dh $@ Of these I prefer option 1. It is at least coherent. An imprecation in policy /recommending/ the use of make or dh(1) would be sensible. Option 2 is pointless IMO. It mandates that Josip do something pointless, and leaves the same door open for other pointless things. Option 3 is very difficult: how do we distinguish these two cases ? Are we going to make a special exception for dh(1), thus forbidding future package helper tools that aren't explicitly blessed by policy ? I don't think that's the right way to go. Bug#641413: libreoffice: Crash on startup
Package: libreoffice Version: 1:3.4.3-1 Severity: serious Hi, on my current sid system, libreoffice crashes on startup. IMO, it's not the same issue as the other reported crashes, therefore reporting separately: $ /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin X IO Error $ (Run under screen now to get the trace.) The crash appears after the Document/Spreadsheet/.. chooser comes up and after moving the mouse a little. I did a threads backtrace, but unfortunately, there is not much of a segfault or similar left. Also, the gdk_x_error symbol (described for X backtraces in the wiki) isn't present: (gdb) break gdk_x_error Function gdk_x_error not defined. Make breakpoint pending on future shared library load? You upgrade your kernel, something breaks and then you blame udev. I think I am missing some logical connection here. What happens if you boot again the old kernel? Which versions is that? Bug#641416: gmanedit: Update for deprecated symbols in current GTK+
Package: gmanedit Version: 0.4.2-4 Severity: important Tags: patch User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch oneiric gmanedit failed to build on Ubuntu amd64 because it builds with -DGTK_DISABLE_DEPRECATED but uses symbols that have since been deprecated in GTK+: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/70216621/buildlog_ubuntu-natty-amd64.gmanedit_0.4.2-4_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz This fails specifically on amd64 because unprototyped functions implicitly return int, and ints and pointers have different sizes on amd64, so we force those particular compiler warnings to cause build failures since they may well lead to crashes at runtime. The following patch fixes this. It should be suitable for forwarding upstream with a little rearrangement; the Internet browser preference has been removed, but it looks as though the rest of it should still pretty much apply. * Update for deprecated symbols in current GTK+ (LP: #771093). diff -Nru gmanedit-0.4.2/debian/patches/gtk_deprecated gmanedit-0.4.2/debian/patches/gtk_deprecated --- gmanedit-0.4.2/debian/patches/gtk_deprecated1970-01-01 01:00:00.0 +0100 +++ gmanedit-0.4.2/debian/patches/gtk_deprecated2011-09-13 11:08:24.0 +0100 @@ -0,0 +1,100 @@ +Description: Update for deprecated symbols in current GTK+ + gtk_set_locale is already called by gtk_init and so unnecessary. Bug#588436: backuppc: Have an authenticated access for personnal backups
Hi ! In fact you can already do this. In the 'hosts' files, you have a 'user' field. That's the name of the use that can access the backup. So you just need to: 1- set-up kerberos auth on your Apache server, 2- the kerberos users and the ones in 'hosts' should match 3- create a user.pl for each /home/user BR, Ludovic On Thu, Jul 08, 2010 at 12:40:53PM +0200, Arthur Lutz wrote: Package: backuppc Version: 3.1.0-4lenny3 Severity: wishlist For a multiuser setup with a kerberos authentication it would be really nice to have a way of giving access to those users to their personnal backups. Bug#641419: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: sendfile(2) behaves incorrectly in 2.6.32-5-amd64, overwriting written data
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.32-35squeeze2 Severity: important In the squeeze standard 64 bit kernel (with either 64 or 32 bit userspace) sendfile(2) is overwriting data already written to the file descriptor by write(2). Here's a minimal test case: - echo there turtle.jpeg cat EOF sendfiletest.c #include unistd.h #include fcntl.h int main() { int fd1=open(turtle.jpeg, O_RDONLY); int fd2=open(test6.pdf, O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC, 0644); write(fd2, hello, 5); sendfile(fd2,fd1, NULL, 10); } EOF gcc sendfiletest.c -o sendfiletest ./sendfiletest cat test6.pdf On squeeze's 2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel the file will contain there. On lenny, it will contain hellothere. On later (backported or handbuilt) kernels, the behaviour returns to hellothere. This isn't just a nasty bug, but I'm concerned it might be exploitable. It certainly causes our pdf generation library to go horrible wrong :) If there's anything else I can do to be of assistance, please do let me know. To be explicit, the server I sent this mail from is _not_ vulnerable because it's running a backport kernel. Hi Marcus and Alessandro, these bugs (java.security.ProviderException: Could not initialize NSS) and (SSL connections fail: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsoftokn3.so does not exist) sounds like #641305, which I reported yesterday against ca-certificates-java, and which Torsten fixed immediately. Can you check if upgrading to ca-certificates-java 20110912 fixes them? Damien, your statement Given your libc6 version, you seems to be running Debian Squeeze (stable). Generally speaking, we don't provide support for mixed installation with experimental with stable packages : it won't work. is not generally true [1] - it should work. Upgrading between Debian stable releases upgrades all software by 2 years, and there are in practice many cases where you cannot do the upgrade in one run. And with providing testing and backports Debian is pushing users into many more situations where they have a mixture of stable and unstable installed. And if a Debian package runs a Java program in the postinst that is usually run in a mixed installation when upgrading from oldstable to stable. cu Adrian [1] It is even less true in this case, where you are using this as an excuse for not debugging a bug that is also present in a pure unstable. -- Is there not promise of rain? Bug#632225: Investigating #632225 (subvertpy testsuite failure on ia64)
Hi, I started having a look at the bug in the sid chroot of merulo (the ia64 porterbox). After a failed debuild, I re-ran the last command of the debian/rules, and tried to separate the different tests to see which were failing. My results: (sid)lolando@merulo:~/subvertpy-0.8.5/build/lib.linux-ia64-2.7$ failed=;for i in $(python2.7 -m testtools.run -v -f -l subvertpy.tests.test_suite); do python2.7 -m testtools.run $i /dev/null || failed=$failed $i; done;echo $failed Segmentation fault Segmentation fault Segmentation fault subvertpy.tests.test_repos.TestClient.test_is_dir subvertpy.tests.test_repos.TestClient.test_is_file subvertpy.tests.test_repos.TestClient.test_paths_changed (sid)lolando@merulo:~/subvertpy-0.8.5/build/lib.linux-ia64-2.7$ The three tests that fail are therefore test_is_dir, test_is_file and test_paths_changed in the TestClient class. More precisely, the segfault occurs in the self.assertEquals(False,root.is_dir(nonexistant)) clause for test_is_dir and test_is_file, and in self.assertEquals({},root.paths_changed()) for test_paths_changed. Commenting out these three lines ends in all the individual tests passing, but running the full testsuite in a single invocation still gets a segfault for some reason. I haven't dug deeper, but hopefully this can help isolate the problem. Bug#641421: kmail: KMail asks for already saved (IMAP) password every time it starts up (KWallet/session interaction issues?)
Package: kmail Version: 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-1 Severity: minor Hello, KMail is started by the session manager when KDE starts up, and asks for a password (IMAP) that is already saved in KWallet. Sometimes KWallet gives a warning about a misbehaving application: There have been repeated failed attempts to gain access to a wallet. An application may be misbehaving. The password can be found in KWallet when you check for it, so that's not the problem. I'm guessing either interaction issues between KMail and KWallet, or some sort of race condition in restoring sessions where KMail loads before or simultaneously with KWallet and requests the IMAP password before KWallet itself is unlocked: KWallet itself requests its unlock password *after* KMail requests the IMAP password, so KMail simply couldn't have checked the IMAP password from KWallet since it was still locked. I assume KMail for some reason doesn't wait until KWallet is unlocked, and hence asks the IMAP password directly from the user. What I expect and want to happen, quite logically, is that KMail uses the saved IMAP password from KWallet and doesn't ask for it to be manually entered every time. Bug#641424: iwlagn: fails to reconnect to WPA2-enterprise (Reason: 23)
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.0.0-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, My laptop (T400, Intel WiFi Link 5300) is connected at university using Eduroam, an WPA2-enterprise network. After configuring the interface (either KDE or Gnome2 versions of network-manager), a connection will be established. After a while, however, the connection will be dropped (local reason 3), and will not be reestablished (Reason: 23) after an indefinite number of attempts. Apparently, nm is not able to renew the IP. From the dmesg output, it seems the wifi card is struggling to decide which of two AP it should connect to. I first thought it was an issue with knetwork-manager in Wheezy's KDE [1], so I upgraded to testing. The issue remains in all kernels I've tried. I've also tried installing Gnome 2.32 from testing and using nm-applet. Following suggestions in some bug reports [2], I've tried disabling 11n and/or disabling power management (seems to be off in any case), but it doesn't help. This is all more puzzling, since my Ubuntu 10.10 partition has no such problems with Eduroam. I should note that Ubuntu 10.10 does disable 11n, but it's reenabled for 11.04 and later. I will try OpenSUSE 11.4 from a live USB to see if the problem also exists there. Finally, it should be mentioned that WPA2 at home works without issues, and with 11n enabled (where I'm writing this from). Bug#641430: libgetopt-euclid-perl: 0.2.9 does not recognise options in a =head2 inside =head1 OPTIONS
Package: libgetopt-euclid-perl Version: 0.2.9-1 Severity: grave Justification: unpredictable effects on previously-working software mpd-dynamic, a script provided by libaudio-mpd-perl, uses Getopt::Euclid for command-line options. G::E 0.2.7 recognises that it has command-line options, but G::E 0.2.9 does not. An easy test case (which does not require you to have mpd) is to run mpd-dynamic --help and see whether, for instance, the -sleep option is listed. In the case of mpd-dynamic, this is rather nasty, since it relies on G::E to give it sensible defaults: for instance, it would normally sleep for a few seconds between main loop iterations, but in the absence of a default for $ARGV{sleep}, it busy-loops on an attempt to connect to an mpd server, and the system quickly runs out of ports that are not in TIME_WAIT state. The cause seems to be a couple of =head2 headings inside the OPTIONS =head1: =head1 OPTIONS =head2 General behaviour You can customize the usage of mpd-dynamic with the following options: =over 4 =item -o[ld] old Deleting the lines =head2 General behaviour and =head2 Ratings from the mpd-dynamic script works around this. I think Getopt::Euclid should really ignore those sub-headings, though.
